1. Treatment
In our first scene we will establish the main location (location1) of the film
opening by showing a long shot of the house slowly zooming in on an
upstairs window. The scene then changes to within the house in a bedroom
(location2) where the main character (a woman)(Amelia) will be seen in a
fairly dark room, sleeping. Her face will be seen in a close up and she will
appear agitated and restless shown in her facial expressions.
The camera then zooms slowly into the woman’s eye and fades into a new
scene, which is outside at the swing (location 3).This scene will have a hazy
discolored affect on it to ensure it is clear that this is not real life and is
what is being dreamt. Character 2 (Billie) and character 3 (lily) are now
shown and are playing together on a swing. (Character 2 pushing character
3)
The scene then comes back to location 2 the woman in bed and continues
to show her agitated &restless sleep in various close up shots.
The scene once again changes to location 3 where the girls continue
playing. It should be clear that character 2 is not smiling as she pushes
character 3 on the swing and that character 3 is laughing and having fun.
The scene then changes back to the woman in bed sleeping. She then is to
be shown waking up and taking a book out from underneath her pillow and
turning on a bedside lamp.
The character then starts to scribble in the book and a close up of the page
shows what she is writing. A certain word will be seen on the page and at
this point the scene will fade back to the little girls playing together on the
swing. After a while of this scene it will once again go to location 2 and the
woman who continues writing just to establish that what is being seen is
the same as what is being written.
The children playing are shown again for a final time. Throughout the film
opening when the children are shown children singing a nursery rhyme is
played, this enforces the fact that the film is a horror and creates tension
for the audience.
The scene then goes a close up of the woman’s book again where she has
drawn a large question mark. There is then a final fade to the location 2
where the girls are no longer playing but the swing is still swinging. At this
point the music will have stopped playing to emphasize that the children
are no longer there. This shot will start as a long shot and slow zoom to the
swing, fade to black and then show the film title.
