Product Analysis-Intro.
This is my final product for this project. The idea behind this project was to show the positive and negative side of the
culture of social media in the new age. I wanted to show my audience the truth behind social media and how sometimes
it can a good or bad place depending on what you do. The documentary was split up into two parts. The first part was the
positive side of social media. I decided to follow a highly successful business owner whose business is purely based off
of social media. I wanted to show how social media can be used to earn money and not spread hate. We followed him
around to see his day-to-day life in the office to inspire the target audience to be more like them. For the intro I decided to
using a mixture of breaking news clips. I did this to grab the attention of my audience straight away as I knew that they
were young so if it started off long and boring, they would never give it a chance to watch. Each clip was in a different
setting meaning the audience is seeing a new thing every 3 seconds, this will keep them entertained and wanting to
watch more. Each clip is also a different colors this arrange of color will attract my younger audience. The next part of the
intro was a “coming up” section, this was to give my audience a glimpse of what's to come. Also, the BBC like to add
these into there own documentary, so I kept with the codes and conventions. I kept the clips short and snappy this
allowed me to show what would be included in the documentary while keeping the attention. To edit these clips, I kept
them no longer than 5 seconds and I also didn’t add in a single transition this gave off a rough and snappy effect which
woul dkeep my young audience on there toes and always interested which is my main aim of an intreo is to show whats
coming up and to make sure I attract my audineec and I bloieve I achived this. I then added in a high tempo song to ecite
my audience. The next part of the intro was me (the minterviewer and documenter) intoducing the documsatary and what
we will be doin git and why we are doing it and what we want to achive from it. This was shot in a professional studio. I
was able to use two big studio lamps and also a plai black curtain background to create a very professional looking
scene. I shot this in a MCU this allowed me to show catch thre emortion of me and also capture the background. IU
added effects and color corrections to this clip to make the clip look as high quality as possible. I dedited the audio on
premier pro, oringally the clip was very quiet so I used the audio gain tool to increase the volume to 8 decibles. I then
used the audio transition tool to fade the end of the sound out so it smoothly switches to the next section.

Product Analysis-Day in the life.
This is the next section of my documentary. The idea behind this was to show my audience what a typical day looks like for someone
who runs a business from social media. I wanted to show how they use social media in a positive way by learning other people and
making money for themselves. I used this section to educate my audience, I included a lot of luxury items in these scenes as I want
my audience to look up to these people and be like them as they use social media for a good thing and not to spread hate. I
transitioned into this section with a high-quality stock video of cars driving. This type of cinematic shots are used frequency in BBC
Three documentary, so I decided to create my own. I added a voiceover to this section to introduce and explain to my audience what I
am doing and why. The reason I did a voiceover was because I know my audience is young and they would rather listen than read
text off a screen explaining it. I edited this section very simply. I used a fade to black transition to introduce the clip, I then trimmed it to
fit my voiceover. Then I added the high saturation effect to make the clip look more professional. I edited my voiceover on premier pro.
I did this by increasing the audio gain to 8 decibels and also using audio transitions to fade the end of the voice off, so it transitioned
smoothly into my next clip. The next clip was of Owen of going through an online call with he had one of his clients. It is then followed
up with an interview with him about what he was just doing. The first scene was a shot in a medium close. I used the rule of thirds to
position the actor to the left of the screen and then moved him into the middle. I did this because I wanted to get some focus on the
background to give the audience an understanding of his job and that he is based in fashion. I then moved him to the center to show
that he is now the main subject of attention in the scene. For this section I trimmed the clip down and added the high-resolution effect
once again. The next clip was also shot in a medium close up shot however I did it from an eye level side angle. I did this to add some
variety to my clips, I edited this section very similar to the last one. I used the same high-resolution effect. Finally, I edited the audio on
both by increasing the volume to 12 decibels using the audio gain tool. The next part of this scene is Ben’s part. He is taking footage
to be posted on social media. He then runs the audience through what he does and how the business is ran. I shot this scene in a
close up shot and MCU. The reason behind the two angles was because I wanted to capture the detail of the shoe but also the action
taken by Ben. The next part is shot in a MCU shot while he was being interviewed, I did this to capture his facial features and
emotion. I edited these clips on premier pro, I changed the volume to make him sound louder and clearer. Then I added in a fade to
black transitions. The final scene was an example of a sale. I shot this scene in many different shots and angles. I started in a MCU
shot then moved in a CU of the items then straight into another CU shot of the phone then back to a MCU shot of Owen speaking.
Once again I edited this section just like the others to make sure it all flowed and that there was no crazy transitions that didn’t look
unprofessional. I changed the saturation to 30% to make sure Owen looked the same across all clips.

Product Analysis-Both Statistics.
Positive Statistics.
To do this I videoed some cinematic shots of the office and items in the office for the background. I
know the BBC like to use cinematic shots so this will follow there codes and conventions. I then
added the news articles on top however I timed each of them so they can on one by one and left
the scene one by one as I thought it looked more professional and gave my audience time to take
in each article. I then added the voiceover to these clips. The voiceover was filmed on voice memos
in a empty room so there was no noise to ruin my voice. I increased the volume to 12 decibels and
also added a fade off on my voice and allowed the stats to keep running for a couple seconds after.
I did this because I wanted to show my audience the real side of social media.
Negative Statistics.
This part was the exact same concept as the positive statistics but instead I wanted to show the
bad side of social media. This was shot in the exact same way. However I used stock footage of a
crowd in town instead of my own footage. I then researched the news stories downloaded then
added them to my clip. I timed them so they came in shot one by one. Then it was time to do the
voiceover which was shot in the studio with no one in so it allowed my voice to be as crisp as
possible. I used premier pro to time the imagers to pop in one by one. I also used premier pro to
use to the audio gain tool to increase the volume of me speaking.

Product Analysis-College Part.
To introduce this section, I once again used stock car footage. I choose footage which was
completely different angles to the other car footage I used. Again, I used YouTube to download it
then Cap Cut to edit and trim everything. After that I added a voiceover to introduce this part of the
documentary. I uploaded the voiceover to adobe audition where I was able to control the volume
so it fit this part of the documentary. For the first scene actually in the college I decided to film me
walking into the studio where the interviews will taken place. I shot all these scenes as an
establishing shot at eye level. The way I edited this intro was I wanted it to be snappy and the new
location change to grab the audience attention because of this I included more volume of short
clips instead of longer vids but less volume. To do this I kept the clip length at a max of 10
seconds and I didn’t add in a single transition. The only thing I did on premier pro was trim the
clips. This scene was the interviews I did at college. This scene was filmed in the professional
studio with the lighting set up. I set up the background with the black curtain. This plain
background looked great with the light on as it looked very professional. I set the video to 4k 60fps
to make sure the quality was the best it could be. I set the camera up using the rule of thirds to
make sure the actor was right in the centre. To edit the clips I used Cap Cut to create name tags
to introduce each of the college students I then added transitions to the name tags so they didn’t
just disappear. Once again I used 30% saturation on all of the actors. I also cut the excess of each
of the clips.

Product Analysis-End.
To end my documentary I wanted to do a summary of what had happened so far and
the results we found out during the time. I then wanted to do a ”next time” section as
well as the BBC like to do this so to keep with the codes and conventions. I shot the
summary in the studio, I believed this was the best place as it allowed me to set up the
lighting again so the scene looked very professional. I set the camera up and
positioned me in the center this was shot as a MCU shot. The way I edited this was
very similar to the rest of the clips, I started with a fade to black transitions then I used
premier pros audio gain tool and increased the volume so my voice was clear. I added
the high saturation effect and turned it to 30% so all he clips of any actors looked the
same. For the ”next time” section I used excess footage that didn’t make actual cut. I
then clipped it up into 5 second clips and used the mix transition to make it flow. I also
used the text tool on premier pro to add in the Next time. I then added high tempo
music to excite my audience for the next documentary.

Reflecting on Stages.
I feel like this project was very up and down. It started off very well, I conducted thorough research
inro my client and my audience which I think was very important because it allowed me to plan my
actual footage around this. I was able to see the codes and conventions and thing the BBC likes and
dislikes which helped me know what to add and what to leave out. The research into my audience
allowed me to base my documentary around a certain subject it also allowed me to know what to add
to make my documentary successful. For example, during my research I learnt my audience is young
because of this I knew id have to keep the clips short to keep them entertained. Although I believe
this research was important, I think the main thing that allowed me to create a project I was proud of
was pre-production. During pre-production I was able to plan out timetables to organize when I would
edit and shoot my footage. This came in handy down the line because I had a lot of problems and as
I gave myself time to edit and shoot the footage, I was able to still meet the deadline and re shoot
bits that I needed to. Due to this I would say this is the most important part of my full journey. Finally,
the last part of journey (apart from this) is main/postproduction. This is where the documentary is
brought to life and all the research you did leads up to this part. This includes editing, taking shots,
designing the documentary. This is the main part of the project as this is where you put everything to
together to help your client do the best that it can do. One of the most important bits of
postproduction is experimentation this is so important as you can really learn from each style you try,
and you can see what works and what doesn’t. Also receiving feedback on these experiments really
keeps you on track to make the best documentary possible.

I then used the audio transition tool to fade the end of the sound out so it smoothly switches to the next section.
  • 3. z BBC Project. Evaluation. Product Analysis-Day in the life. This is the next section of my documentary. The idea behind this was to show my audience what a typical day looks like for someone who runs a business from social media. I wanted to show how they use social media in a positive way by learning other people and making money for themselves. I used this section to educate my audience, I included a lot of luxury items in these scenes as I want my audience to look up to these people and be like them as they use social media for a good thing and not to spread hate. I transitioned into this section with a high-quality stock video of cars driving. This type of cinematic shots are used frequency in BBC Three documentary, so I decided to create my own. I added a voiceover to this section to introduce and explain to my audience what I am doing and why. The reason I did a voiceover was because I know my audience is young and they would rather listen than read text off a screen explaining it. I edited this section very simply. I used a fade to black transition to introduce the clip, I then trimmed it to fit my voiceover. Then I added the high saturation effect to make the clip look more professional. I edited my voiceover on premier pro. I did this by increasing the audio gain to 8 decibels and also using audio transitions to fade the end of the voice off, so it transitioned smoothly into my next clip. The next clip was of Owen of going through an online call with he had one of his clients. It is then followed up with an interview with him about what he was just doing. The first scene was a shot in a medium close. I used the rule of thirds to position the actor to the left of the screen and then moved him into the middle. I did this because I wanted to get some focus on the background to give the audience an understanding of his job and that he is based in fashion. I then moved him to the center to show that he is now the main subject of attention in the scene. For this section I trimmed the clip down and added the high-resolution effect once again. The next clip was also shot in a medium close up shot however I did it from an eye level side angle. I did this to add some variety to my clips, I edited this section very similar to the last one. I used the same high-resolution effect. Finally, I edited the audio on both by increasing the volume to 12 decibels using the audio gain tool. The next part of this scene is Ben’s part. He is taking footage to be posted on social media. He then runs the audience through what he does and how the business is ran. I shot this scene in a close up shot and MCU. The reason behind the two angles was because I wanted to capture the detail of the shoe but also the action taken by Ben. The next part is shot in a MCU shot while he was being interviewed, I did this to capture his facial features and emotion. I edited these clips on premier pro, I changed the volume to make him sound louder and clearer. Then I added in a fade to black transitions. The final scene was an example of a sale. I shot this scene in many different shots and angles. I started in a MCU shot then moved in a CU of the items then straight into another CU shot of the phone then back to a MCU shot of Owen speaking. Once again I edited this section just like the others to make sure it all flowed and that there was no crazy transitions that didn’t look unprofessional. I changed the saturation to 30% to make sure Owen looked the same across all clips.
  • 4. z BBC Project. Evaluation. Product Analysis-Both Statistics. Positive Statistics. To do this I videoed some cinematic shots of the office and items in the office for the background. I know the BBC like to use cinematic shots so this will follow there codes and conventions. I then added the news articles on top however I timed each of them so they can on one by one and left the scene one by one as I thought it looked more professional and gave my audience time to take in each article. I then added the voiceover to these clips. The voiceover was filmed on voice memos in a empty room so there was no noise to ruin my voice. I increased the volume to 12 decibels and also added a fade off on my voice and allowed the stats to keep running for a couple seconds after. I did this because I wanted to show my audience the real side of social media. Negative Statistics. This part was the exact same concept as the positive statistics but instead I wanted to show the bad side of social media. This was shot in the exact same way. However I used stock footage of a crowd in town instead of my own footage. I then researched the news stories downloaded then added them to my clip. I timed them so they came in shot one by one. Then it was time to do the voiceover which was shot in the studio with no one in so it allowed my voice to be as crisp as possible. I used premier pro to time the imagers to pop in one by one. I also used premier pro to use to the audio gain tool to increase the volume of me speaking.
  • 5. z BBC Project. Evaluation. Product Analysis-College Part. To introduce this section, I once again used stock car footage. I choose footage which was completely different angles to the other car footage I used. Again, I used YouTube to download it then Cap Cut to edit and trim everything. After that I added a voiceover to introduce this part of the documentary. I uploaded the voiceover to adobe audition where I was able to control the volume so it fit this part of the documentary. For the first scene actually in the college I decided to film me walking into the studio where the interviews will taken place. I shot all these scenes as an establishing shot at eye level. The way I edited this intro was I wanted it to be snappy and the new location change to grab the audience attention because of this I included more volume of short clips instead of longer vids but less volume. To do this I kept the clip length at a max of 10 seconds and I didn’t add in a single transition. The only thing I did on premier pro was trim the clips. This scene was the interviews I did at college. This scene was filmed in the professional studio with the lighting set up. I set up the background with the black curtain. This plain background looked great with the light on as it looked very professional. I set the video to 4k 60fps to make sure the quality was the best it could be. I set the camera up using the rule of thirds to make sure the actor was right in the centre. To edit the clips I used Cap Cut to create name tags to introduce each of the college students I then added transitions to the name tags so they didn’t just disappear. Once again I used 30% saturation on all of the actors. I also cut the excess of each of the clips.
  • 6. z BBC Project. Evaluation. Product Analysis-End. To end my documentary I wanted to do a summary of what had happened so far and the results we found out during the time. I then wanted to do a ”next time” section as well as the BBC like to do this so to keep with the codes and conventions. I shot the summary in the studio, I believed this was the best place as it allowed me to set up the lighting again so the scene looked very professional. I set the camera up and positioned me in the center this was shot as a MCU shot. The way I edited this was very similar to the rest of the clips, I started with a fade to black transitions then I used premier pros audio gain tool and increased the volume so my voice was clear. I added the high saturation effect and turned it to 30% so all he clips of any actors looked the same. For the ”next time” section I used excess footage that didn’t make actual cut. I then clipped it up into 5 second clips and used the mix transition to make it flow. I also used the text tool on premier pro to add in the Next time. I then added high tempo music to excite my audience for the next documentary.
  • 7. z BBC Project. Evaluation. Reflecting on Stages. I feel like this project was very up and down. It started off very well, I conducted thorough research inro my client and my audience which I think was very important because it allowed me to plan my actual footage around this. I was able to see the codes and conventions and thing the BBC likes and dislikes which helped me know what to add and what to leave out. The research into my audience allowed me to base my documentary around a certain subject it also allowed me to know what to add to make my documentary successful. For example, during my research I learnt my audience is young because of this I knew id have to keep the clips short to keep them entertained. Although I believe this research was important, I think the main thing that allowed me to create a project I was proud of was pre-production. During pre-production I was able to plan out timetables to organize when I would edit and shoot my footage. This came in handy down the line because I had a lot of problems and as I gave myself time to edit and shoot the footage, I was able to still meet the deadline and re shoot bits that I needed to. Due to this I would say this is the most important part of my full journey. Finally, the last part of journey (apart from this) is main/postproduction. This is where the documentary is brought to life and all the research you did leads up to this part. This includes editing, taking shots, designing the documentary. This is the main part of the project as this is where you put everything to together to help your client do the best that it can do. One of the most important bits of postproduction is experimentation this is so important as you can really learn from each style you try, and you can see what works and what doesn’t. Also receiving feedback on these experiments really keeps you on track to make the best documentary possible.
