Plan for a Healthy Lifestyle

The idea behind my tv advert was to get healthy but to
have a healthy life means you need a balanced life.
The reasoning behind this message is to show the
realistic side of getting active and healthy as many
people believe to be healthy you need to do 6 hours of
exercise and only eat vegetables and this is
completely wrong and that’s what scares people from
starting there journey of getting active. So I wanted
show the real side of being healthy and show how yes
you need to challenge yourself but you still get to relax
and treat yourself so that's what I based my advert
around. Because of this I decided to do a “day in the
life” to a degree and show the 3 stages of being
healthy. So each of my scenes were each of the
stages and then scene 4 was my final message as I
wanted my advert to be inspirational. I believe its
important for my advert to be inspirational as I'm trying
to get as many people healthy as possible to help
achieve my goal for my client so I need to aspire
people to change and start there journey.

Scene 1 shots:
Shot 1: Establishing shot-I used this because I wanted to set the scene for the audience the
reason for this is because the forest is looking very peaceful this shows the audience that you
can do exercise while experiencing beautiful nature. This will entice them to get active and
enjoy the beauty. Also this shot is filmed from behind me I did this on my purpose because it
conveys the meaning to the audience to follow in my footsteps and also get active and begin
there journey of getting heathy.
Shot 2: This shot is medium long shot and from a front facing angle which as I get closer turns
into a close up shot. I did this to show two things one is to show me getting active on my walk
then the close up shows the emotion in the actors face. This shows the actor as a happy
person and this then makes the audience realise that getting active is fun and makes you
happy this then should led to more people getting active which helps my client achieve there
goal.
Shot 3: This shot is also a long shot from a high looking angle. I choose this because from this
angle it looks like you are being watched this then sort of pressures the audience to get active
as it conveys the meaning that the eyes are on them now to make a change. It also is on a
tilt/Dutch angle as it makes it look like the actor is walking upwards and this shows that the
journey will be tough and “uphill” but that it is possible to overcome and I feel like this will
inspire the audience.

Scene 2 shots:
Shot 1: This shot is a POV shot. I choose this shot because it allows the audience to fell like its
them that is doing the exercise and this allows them to see hoe fun it is to get active. Also this
shot adds the the intense feeling from this scene as you see very footstep and it also this
angle/shot makes the scene look shaky which also adds to the intense feeling.
Shot 2: This shot is a medium close up from a low angle. This shot allows the audience to see the
emotion in the actors face during the exercise which shows the challenge while be hard as the
actor looks tired but he gets through it which should show to the audience they can do it. I choose
the low angle because it look like you are looking up to the actor which is getting active this
conveys the meaning that if you do exercise people will start looking up to you and you will
actually inspire to get fit themselves and people will admire you.
Shot 3: Shot 3 is a close up from eye level. This is shot is meant to be the audience eyes so it is
almost another POV shot and I choose this because it is like the fans are cheering the audience
on for getting active and helping inspire them. The shot is close up to show how happy the fans
are of the audience for doing this. This should inspire the audience to get active as it shows so
many people will be happy for them starting there journey.

Scene 3 shots:
Shot 1: This shot is a medium long shot. I chose this because it allows me to set the scene while
also capturing details such as the crisp packet. I feel like it is important that the audience sees the
crisp packet because this is what show that while getting healthy you can still treat yourself ad
this will show the audience the real side of a healthy life which they will not be scared of which
should led to more people getting healthy and this helps my client once again.
Shot 2: This shot is an over the shoulder shot. This shot was chosen because the audience to
see more of the surroundings which also shows the TV in the background this will also show how
during your journey of a healthy lifestyle you still get to relax and watch what you want to. This will
make the audience happier as it shows you don’t have to sacrifice relaxation which then will
make them more likely to start there journey which will make them healthier which once again
helps the client meet there goal.
Shot 3: Finally this is the last scene of my footage this scene is once again a medium close up, I
wanted to end my actual footage on this as I want the audience to take the scene in one more
time. In the scene they will see the actor relaxing with some crisp and there pet. They will
remember this scene and realize a healthy lifestyle isn't that hard this will once again inspire them
to start there journey as they wont be too scared to start.

This is my first scene which is the calm relaxing walk part of
my advert. First thing I had to do was cut up each clip so
they flowed and as I past the camera a new clip started to
show the continuity of the advert. After this I edited the
scene and added colour correction as they looked a bit dull.
As you can see I upped the exposure slightly to brighten the
advert, I only slightly upped it as because I was outside if I
upped it anymore the brightness from the sky looked too
bright and ended up looking fake/unrealistic. Then I upped
the contrast a lot to make the picture look more sharp and
more detailed as I know my advert will have to be high
quality as my client is very professional so increasing the
contrast helps me achieve this. Then by decreasing the
highlights it helps the contrast and exposure as it helps the
details pop more. Also as I was outside the highlights were
very bright so I needed to turn these down so it looked
better quality. Next I upped the shadows slightly because it
looked a good contrast from the bright sky.

This is the edit for scene 2, scene two was my intense football scene.
For this scene I wanted to show some fast paced exercise to show
you do need to do some challenging exercise to be healthy. Because
of this I cut down the clips so they are short and snappy to show the
intense feel. Then I added transitions to help it flow better. I used the
premier pro transitions for these clips, I experimented with loads of
different ones to see which ones flowed best and l looked the most
professional. For example the swipe/slide transitions looked very
unprofessional and ruined it. After this I did a slow-mo on one of
action shots so you can see the emotion and the action the actor is
doing/going through. After I got the correct length clips and it flowed
correctly I then changed the setting and colour corrected it so the
quality would increase and it looked as high quality as possible. To do
this I firstly decreased the exposure as we were outside on a bright
day so the clips were naturally very bright so dimming them down
helped increase the quality. Then I upped the contrast to make it look
sharper and make the details stand out. Next I decreased the
highlights because as I said before it was extremely bright day so
decreasing it made the clips look cleaner. Once again I decreased
shadows as the brightness made the shadows stand out and I
wanted to remove them slightly as it looks unprofessional and ruins
the clips.

This is the editing for scene 3. Scene 3 is my relaxing scene where it
shows you can still relax while being healthy. Because of this I kept my
clips slightly longer to show more of a relaxing less intense effect. Also I
didn’t do transitions as I filmed it in a way where it flowed without it and
kept the continuity as I wanted it to flow naturally and I feel it looks more
clam without transitions. I did experiment with them however I didn’t
believe it made my advert better and it actually didn’t convey the
meaning I wanted it to so I decided to stick without them. I did have to
cut clips up though so they matched with each other but I also had top
cut them to still keep it short so I can keep the attention of the audience
as I know the audience is young (16-18) so this could make them bored
if its too long. So once I did this I now colour corrected it to once again
make it look as good as possible. I slightly decreased the exposure even
though it is dark this is because I upped the highlights by a lot so I had to
help balance it out so it looked perfect. Then I put the contrast down as
the light from the tv was making the footage look blurry so decreasing it
helped sort this out. Next as I mentioned before I upped the highlights
this is because the room was dark so by upping the highlights by a lot it
made the footage look a bit brighter while also keeping the high quality
of it unlike upping the exposure.

Scene 4 is my final scene and my voice over scene. I decided
to end my advert on a tag line as it’s a very important message
and leaving it to last means its the last thing you hear making
it rememberable. I choose to use the better health branding so
my audience know where to look if the advert has inspired
them. As well I added the blue NHS logo into the bottom left of
the full advert so the audience clearly knows who this advert is
for. The original better health logo is brown but as my ad is
based on balance and that is a connotation of green I used
photo shop to turn the background to green so it could convey
the meaning of balance through colour as that is one of the
codes and conventions of the NHS. I changed the colour by
editing the hue and saturation until I got the green colour I
wanted.

This is the sound edit for scene 1. As scene 1 is based
outside I wanted it to sound like walking through a park or a
forest I used Foley sounds (diegetic) to create this effect. I
added in these sounds: birds, dog barking, wind, footsteps,
leaves crunching, wind. For sounds like the dogs barking I
changed the decibels at certain points to create the doppler
effect which means the further away you get it changes pitch
to sound quieter. For the other sounds I changed volumes to
match what you would hear if you were there to make it sound
realistic for example the birds chirping and the gusts of wind
have been quietened so it just sounds like background noise.
And for the leaves crunching I increased the volume to make
it sound I was walking in a nice forest on an autumns day this
would give the audience a nice relaxing feel which would
encourage them to exercise as they see it as relaxing. I used
free sound.org for all the sounds then uploaded them to
adobe audition to edit them to sound the way I wanted it to.
Finally I added a calm backing track (non diegetic) to bring it
all together as that was some of the advice I received I
believe it sounds better with it/

This is scene two which is my intense getting active scene. I
wanted this scene to feel like you were the one doing the
exercise. To create this, I added many sound such as footsteps,
heavy breathing and a heartbeat (diegetic) I quietened these
sounds so its realistic. To give the scene an intense feel I added
a sports background cheering you on this makes the
environment more intense to show the challenges you face
when trying to have a health lifestyle. For the crowd
background noise I increased it to 12.5 decibels and also give it
a slight echo to feel like crowd is on top of you and in your ear
cheering you on your journey of getting active. Once again I
downloaded these sounds of Freedsound then edit then in
adobe audition. Finally I added an intense song for the backing
track (non diegetic) as I feel it adds to that intense feel and
really makes you want to get active or play some sport.

This is my sound edit for scene 3 which is my relaxing part of
the advert. To create this scene I added sounds such as a sigh,
a crisp packet opening, chewing sound effect, tv background
noise (diegetic.) So the tv sounded like a background noise I
decreased the volume and also muffled it slightly so it sounded
realistic. I actually increased the volume/decibels of the
chewing this was too show how much he is enjoying the crisp
so it shows the audience they can still really enjoy their food
when living this new lifestyle. I also looped the chewing sound
as the sound I downloaded was too short for my scene
however then it sounded unrealistic so I split the sound up and
looped different parts then added them together so the
chewing was random and realistic. Then I had to match the
sound edit up to my actual footage due to this I had to use trail
and error to cut/add parts until it matched perfectly. I used free
sound for the sounds then adobe audition to edit. Once again I
added a backing track (non diegetic) this one was slightly up
beat but still relaxing to show the enjoyment and relaxing side
of this part of the advert.

Finally scene 4 was the voice over I added. This is where I
said the inspirational quote. I did this to inspire the
audience to change and also show the goal of my add to
the campaign to allow them to live a balanced lifestyle. I
recorded the audio on my phone in a studio with no
background noise so it was only my voice you could hear
and it sounded clear and crisp. This quote is my add
slogan so it gives the audience something to recognize
and remember when seeing the NHS advert. I recorded
this on voice memo then added it to adobe audition to
make it sound as clear as possible. Then uploaded it to
premier pro where I also changed the volume on there as
well.

didn't like and some bloopers as well.

Challenges I Overcame.
For scene 1 I was meant to follow on the day it was supposed t
snow as I wanted to show the challenge of getting active however
I was extremely ill so could not film on this day because of this I
had to change the meaning behind it so I changed it to an
inspirational advert so I used forecast to re plan a date there it
would be sunny for the sun to be glowing on me which would
help the inspirational aspect.
For scene 2 I required many actors so I did struggle to find a date
where everyone was available and where the weather was fine
but we finally agreed a date. Apart from that it wasn’t too much of
a problem.
Finally scene 3 wasn’t too bad either however there was a slight
problem with lighting as I wanted to film on a night however I was
able to use phone torchers and lamps and also editing to sort this
problem out.

This question was sent to a mixture of people
including professional people then also my
target audience I did this so I could get two
different view points on my advert. I wanted to
know both view points as I will need both
audiences to like it for the NHS to use it as the
nhs is extremely professional so experienced
people in the industry will be able to tell if the
nhs would like it. I agreed with all points made
so I changed it and added/removed the bits
they recommend as you can see in my final
product.

  • 1. z NHS Better Health Campaign Plan for a Healthy Lifestyle
  • 2. z Post Production. Tv advert. The idea behind my tv advert was to get healthy but to have a healthy life means you need a balanced life. The reasoning behind this message is to show the realistic side of getting active and healthy as many people believe to be healthy you need to do 6 hours of exercise and only eat vegetables and this is completely wrong and that’s what scares people from starting there journey of getting active. So I wanted show the real side of being healthy and show how yes you need to challenge yourself but you still get to relax and treat yourself so that's what I based my advert around. Because of this I decided to do a “day in the life” to a degree and show the 3 stages of being healthy. So each of my scenes were each of the stages and then scene 4 was my final message as I wanted my advert to be inspirational. I believe its important for my advert to be inspirational as I'm trying to get as many people healthy as possible to help achieve my goal for my client so I need to aspire people to change and start there journey.

  • 4. z Post Production. Tv advert. Scene 1 shots: Shot 1: Establishing shot-I used this because I wanted to set the scene for the audience the reason for this is because the forest is looking very peaceful this shows the audience that you can do exercise while experiencing beautiful nature. This will entice them to get active and enjoy the beauty. Also this shot is filmed from behind me I did this on my purpose because it conveys the meaning to the audience to follow in my footsteps and also get active and begin there journey of getting heathy. Shot 2: This shot is medium long shot and from a front facing angle which as I get closer turns into a close up shot. I did this to show two things one is to show me getting active on my walk then the close up shows the emotion in the actors face. This shows the actor as a happy person and this then makes the audience realise that getting active is fun and makes you happy this then should led to more people getting active which helps my client achieve there goal. Shot 3: This shot is also a long shot from a high looking angle. I choose this because from this angle it looks like you are being watched this then sort of pressures the audience to get active as it conveys the meaning that the eyes are on them now to make a change. It also is on a tilt/Dutch angle as it makes it look like the actor is walking upwards and this shows that the journey will be tough and “uphill” but that it is possible to overcome and I feel like this will inspire the audience.
  • 5. z ! Post Production. Tv advert. Scene 2 shots: Shot 1: This shot is a POV shot. I choose this shot because it allows the audience to fell like its them that is doing the exercise and this allows them to see hoe fun it is to get active. Also this shot adds the the intense feeling from this scene as you see very footstep and it also this angle/shot makes the scene look shaky which also adds to the intense feeling. Shot 2: This shot is a medium close up from a low angle. This shot allows the audience to see the emotion in the actors face during the exercise which shows the challenge while be hard as the actor looks tired but he gets through it which should show to the audience they can do it. I choose the low angle because it look like you are looking up to the actor which is getting active this conveys the meaning that if you do exercise people will start looking up to you and you will actually inspire to get fit themselves and people will admire you. Shot 3: Shot 3 is a close up from eye level. This is shot is meant to be the audience eyes so it is almost another POV shot and I choose this because it is like the fans are cheering the audience on for getting active and helping inspire them. The shot is close up to show how happy the fans are of the audience for doing this. This should inspire the audience to get active as it shows so many people will be happy for them starting there journey.
  • 6. z Post Production. Tv advert. Scene 3 shots: Shot 1: This shot is a medium long shot. I chose this because it allows me to set the scene while also capturing details such as the crisp packet. I feel like it is important that the audience sees the crisp packet because this is what show that while getting healthy you can still treat yourself ad this will show the audience the real side of a healthy life which they will not be scared of which should led to more people getting healthy and this helps my client once again. Shot 2: This shot is an over the shoulder shot. This shot was chosen because the audience to see more of the surroundings which also shows the TV in the background this will also show how during your journey of a healthy lifestyle you still get to relax and watch what you want to. This will make the audience happier as it shows you don’t have to sacrifice relaxation which then will make them more likely to start there journey which will make them healthier which once again helps the client meet there goal. Shot 3: Finally this is the last scene of my footage this scene is once again a medium close up, I wanted to end my actual footage on this as I want the audience to take the scene in one more time. In the scene they will see the actor relaxing with some crisp and there pet. They will remember this scene and realize a healthy lifestyle isn't that hard this will once again inspire them to start there journey as they wont be too scared to start.
  • 7. z Post Production. Tv advert. This is my first scene which is the calm relaxing walk part of my advert. First thing I had to do was cut up each clip so they flowed and as I past the camera a new clip started to show the continuity of the advert. After this I edited the scene and added colour correction as they looked a bit dull. As you can see I upped the exposure slightly to brighten the advert, I only slightly upped it as because I was outside if I upped it anymore the brightness from the sky looked too bright and ended up looking fake/unrealistic. Then I upped the contrast a lot to make the picture look more sharp and more detailed as I know my advert will have to be high quality as my client is very professional so increasing the contrast helps me achieve this. Then by decreasing the highlights it helps the contrast and exposure as it helps the details pop more. Also as I was outside the highlights were very bright so I needed to turn these down so it looked better quality. Next I upped the shadows slightly because it looked a good contrast from the bright sky.
  • 8. z Post Production. Tv advert. This is the edit for scene 2, scene two was my intense football scene. For this scene I wanted to show some fast paced exercise to show you do need to do some challenging exercise to be healthy. Because of this I cut down the clips so they are short and snappy to show the intense feel. Then I added transitions to help it flow better. I used the premier pro transitions for these clips, I experimented with loads of different ones to see which ones flowed best and l looked the most professional. For example the swipe/slide transitions looked very unprofessional and ruined it. After this I did a slow-mo on one of action shots so you can see the emotion and the action the actor is doing/going through. After I got the correct length clips and it flowed correctly I then changed the setting and colour corrected it so the quality would increase and it looked as high quality as possible. To do this I firstly decreased the exposure as we were outside on a bright day so the clips were naturally very bright so dimming them down helped increase the quality. Then I upped the contrast to make it look sharper and make the details stand out. Next I decreased the highlights because as I said before it was extremely bright day so decreasing it made the clips look cleaner. Once again I decreased shadows as the brightness made the shadows stand out and I wanted to remove them slightly as it looks unprofessional and ruins the clips.
  • 9. z Post Production. Tv advert. This is the editing for scene 3. Scene 3 is my relaxing scene where it shows you can still relax while being healthy. Because of this I kept my clips slightly longer to show more of a relaxing less intense effect. Also I didn’t do transitions as I filmed it in a way where it flowed without it and kept the continuity as I wanted it to flow naturally and I feel it looks more clam without transitions. I did experiment with them however I didn’t believe it made my advert better and it actually didn’t convey the meaning I wanted it to so I decided to stick without them. I did have to cut clips up though so they matched with each other but I also had top cut them to still keep it short so I can keep the attention of the audience as I know the audience is young (16-18) so this could make them bored if its too long. So once I did this I now colour corrected it to once again make it look as good as possible. I slightly decreased the exposure even though it is dark this is because I upped the highlights by a lot so I had to help balance it out so it looked perfect. Then I put the contrast down as the light from the tv was making the footage look blurry so decreasing it helped sort this out. Next as I mentioned before I upped the highlights this is because the room was dark so by upping the highlights by a lot it made the footage look a bit brighter while also keeping the high quality of it unlike upping the exposure.
  • 10. z Post Production. Tv advert. Scene 4 is my final scene and my voice over scene. I decided to end my advert on a tag line as it’s a very important message and leaving it to last means its the last thing you hear making it rememberable. I choose to use the better health branding so my audience know where to look if the advert has inspired them. As well I added the blue NHS logo into the bottom left of the full advert so the audience clearly knows who this advert is for. The original better health logo is brown but as my ad is based on balance and that is a connotation of green I used photo shop to turn the background to green so it could convey the meaning of balance through colour as that is one of the codes and conventions of the NHS. I changed the colour by editing the hue and saturation until I got the green colour I wanted.
  • 11. z Post Production. Tv advert. This is the sound edit for scene 1. As scene 1 is based outside I wanted it to sound like walking through a park or a forest I used Foley sounds (diegetic) to create this effect. I added in these sounds: birds, dog barking, wind, footsteps, leaves crunching, wind. For sounds like the dogs barking I changed the decibels at certain points to create the doppler effect which means the further away you get it changes pitch to sound quieter. For the other sounds I changed volumes to match what you would hear if you were there to make it sound realistic for example the birds chirping and the gusts of wind have been quietened so it just sounds like background noise. And for the leaves crunching I increased the volume to make it sound I was walking in a nice forest on an autumns day this would give the audience a nice relaxing feel which would encourage them to exercise as they see it as relaxing. I used free sound.org for all the sounds then uploaded them to adobe audition to edit them to sound the way I wanted it to. Finally I added a calm backing track (non diegetic) to bring it all together as that was some of the advice I received I believe it sounds better with it/
  • 12. z Post Production. Tv advert. This is scene two which is my intense getting active scene. I wanted this scene to feel like you were the one doing the exercise. To create this, I added many sound such as footsteps, heavy breathing and a heartbeat (diegetic) I quietened these sounds so its realistic. To give the scene an intense feel I added a sports background cheering you on this makes the environment more intense to show the challenges you face when trying to have a health lifestyle. For the crowd background noise I increased it to 12.5 decibels and also give it a slight echo to feel like crowd is on top of you and in your ear cheering you on your journey of getting active. Once again I downloaded these sounds of Freedsound then edit then in adobe audition. Finally I added an intense song for the backing track (non diegetic) as I feel it adds to that intense feel and really makes you want to get active or play some sport.
  • 13. z Post Production. Tv advert. This is my sound edit for scene 3 which is my relaxing part of the advert. To create this scene I added sounds such as a sigh, a crisp packet opening, chewing sound effect, tv background noise (diegetic.) So the tv sounded like a background noise I decreased the volume and also muffled it slightly so it sounded realistic. I actually increased the volume/decibels of the chewing this was too show how much he is enjoying the crisp so it shows the audience they can still really enjoy their food when living this new lifestyle. I also looped the chewing sound as the sound I downloaded was too short for my scene however then it sounded unrealistic so I split the sound up and looped different parts then added them together so the chewing was random and realistic. Then I had to match the sound edit up to my actual footage due to this I had to use trail and error to cut/add parts until it matched perfectly. I used free sound for the sounds then adobe audition to edit. Once again I added a backing track (non diegetic) this one was slightly up beat but still relaxing to show the enjoyment and relaxing side of this part of the advert.
  • 14. z Post Production. Tv advert. Finally scene 4 was the voice over I added. This is where I said the inspirational quote. I did this to inspire the audience to change and also show the goal of my add to the campaign to allow them to live a balanced lifestyle. I recorded the audio on my phone in a studio with no background noise so it was only my voice you could hear and it sounded clear and crisp. This quote is my add slogan so it gives the audience something to recognize and remember when seeing the NHS advert. I recorded this on voice memo then added it to adobe audition to make it sound as clear as possible. Then uploaded it to premier pro where I also changed the volume on there as well.

For scene 1 I was meant to follow on the day it was supposed t snow as I wanted to show the challenge of getting active however I was extremely ill so could not film on this day because of this I had to change the meaning behind it so I changed it to an inspirational advert so I used forecast to re plan a date there it would be sunny for the sun to be glowing on me which would help the inspirational aspect. For scene 2 I required many actors so I did struggle to find a date where everyone was available and where the weather was fine but we finally agreed a date. Apart from that it wasn’t too much of a problem. Finally scene 3 wasn’t too bad either however there was a slight problem with lighting as I wanted to film on a night however I was able to use phone torchers and lamps and also editing to sort this problem out.

This question was sent to a mixture of people including professional people then also my target audience I did this so I could get two different view points on my advert. I wanted to know both view points as I will need both audiences to like it for the NHS to use it as the nhs is extremely professional so experienced people in the industry will be able to tell if the nhs would like it. I agreed with all points made so I changed it and added/removed the bits they recommend as you can see in my final product. My first draft will be attached on blogger on this.
