How Religion Shaped Roman Culture
One of the main bases of Roman culture is Religion. In fact, almost everything the Roman citizens did revolved around beliefs, gods, and goddesses.
Not only was their way of living affected by religion but the progression of advancement in infrastructure and early forms of technology were as well.
By examining Roman baths and temples, defixiones, and Romanization of the provinces of the empire it is clear that religion helped to shape Roman
advancements in infrastructure and early forms of technology during this time. Aquae Sulis and its baths are a perfect example of how religion
affected Roman life and culture. Romans took mineral springs of hot water, declared them sacred, and transformed them into huge public baths and
temples for worship. For the Romans believed that emerging one's self into the hot water would bring healing from the goddess Sulis. Without
religious beliefs their desire for elaborate worship centers would not exist. As a result, the advanced and fascinating Roman structures found in the city
of Aquae Sulis may not have been built either.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Romans often looked to the gods as possible allies during the difficult times and sought to reach out to them in any way they could. Defixiones,
or curse tablets, are simply one example. When struggling with life or usually a vendetta against another citizen, the Romans often wrote curses on
sheets of lead or pewter dedicated to a specific god or goddess and often threw it into the spring at Aquae Sulis. This is a fantastic example of the
Roman's ability to find, create, and produce new means of expressing their religious culture and

The Is The Leader Of A Older Religion Called Scientology....
1.David Miscavige is the leader of a newer religion called Scientology. L. Ron Hubbard is the founder of Scientology and had personally mentored
Miscavige during his youth. In 1986, Hubbard passed away and Miscavige became his successor. There are many claims of abuse, especially in more
recent times, from ex–members of this religion. The allegations can be tied, either directly or indirectly, to Miscavige and his regulations for the church
of Scientology. Probably the most harmful aspect of his leadership is an aspect of this religion that was not necessarily created by Miscavige, but is
strongly enforced by him. Disconnection is described as an individual decision to cease communication with someone who is perceived as a threat to
one's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He states that disconnection is absolutely enforced on members and is actively used as a fear tactic. It is not just the act of leaving the church that
warrants disconnection, but not abiding by rules and speaking out against the church would bring about one being disconnected from any
Scientologist, including family members. The family member that is disconnected is treated as if they no longer exist. Some members have been a
part of Scientology their entire lives and have no outside education, job experience, money, or support. The act of leaving and would be the act of
basically ending their life as they know it. David Miscavige is overseeing this organization that actively applies this abusive practice and is not upfront
about it, per Rinder and multiple others including actress Leah Remini (Spargo and Dodge, 2015) who also feared disconnection from her family upon
her departure from the church. Rinder states in his blog that the church, mainly Miscavige, knows that this practice is repulsive and uses their website's
explanation to convince others to join the church without full knowledge of what they are truly getting involved in.
2.Mike Rinder's (2016) blog points out an interesting and ironic piece about David Miscavige. L. Ron Hubbard wrote about persons that members of
the church should look out for. Rinder shows how Hubbard's writings from the 1950s eerily describes Miscavige's current behavior and

A Rhetorical Analysis Of The Last Lecture By Randy Pausch
Randy Pausch's "The Last Lecture: Achieving Your Childhood Dreams" was given on September 18th, 2007, shortly after being diagnosed with
cancer. Randy made his goal of the speech not more than five minutes in, stating the importance of achieving your childhood dreams. The
language he is using is very formal, and he appeals to the audience by making several references to common things such as movies, and a
humorous quote after he states his current condition, "I'm in better shape than most of you!" as he proceeds doing pushups on stage. In various
points in his speech, he is speaking to certain individuals in the audience about things pertaining to his story, and how he achieved some of his
childhood dreams with the help of others. Randy really hit it off with everybody, and made the speech untimely, so that anybody at any point in
time can view his speech and wonder "is this still relevant?" Near the closing of his speech, he states that he wasn't giving to speech for everybody
in the audience; he was giving the speech for his children, as he wouldn't be around for them growing up. At several points in his speech he makes
references to common things and statistics, such as MacBook's and how few people have one. At other points he referenced things such as Steve Jobs
+ Wozniak in their garage, as him and his team build his VR setup for under $5,000.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes, at some points, his story involves somebody who is in the audience, and he points them out and they converse about something in
particular, such as part of the story. This way of speaking allows for the audience to think– "Hey, I could be one of the people he is speaking to; I
could have done some of these amazing things!" This works perfectly for Randy's goal in the speech – getting the audience to achieve their childhood

Lane, Charles R. Ask, Thank, Tell: Improving Stewardship Ministry in Your Congregation. Minneapolis: Augsburg Books, 2006.
This resource asserts that stewardship is not just about how much money they give to the church. It is about helping them make better decisions
financially. A church also has to realize that they could be giving to other organizations, but they are giving to the church. Do not take this for granted.
It also has a section on the biblical text development of stewardship. This would be helpful to identify key passages.

Causes And Differences Of Medieval Society In Modern Society
Modern society is inarguably different from medieval communities, quite frankly it would be terrifying if they were exactly the same. Contemporary
culture, in general, is not wholeheartedly focused on the journey to salvation/ religious causes as was more common in medieval communities.
Communication, technology and education have broadened the scope of human activity and opportunities. As far as declining religion and social
hierarchy, it remains debatable whether it is a cause or effect of modern technology. Though because humans are creatures of habit and conservative as
far as change, religious tradition and teachings remain embedded in many communities. Despite similarities based on tradition and inherited values,
modern society differs in driving forces and religious prevalence due to a developed and educated environment.
One of the most obvious differences between the two time periods is the presence of a social hierarchy. Though it would be naive to say that modern
society flourishes with equality and opportunity for all, equality is at least somewhat attempted by many societies. Medieval communities justified
opportunity difference with what they called the feudal system. This dictated education and position in regard to other people. Most medieval people
believed that God dictated a person position in society and that is where they were meant to stay, as opposed to the modern idea of moving up based
on merit (or connections). As far as modern people, there is

Cuzco History
The City of Cuzco was a complex urban center with distinct religious and administrative functions. It was surrounded by clearly defined areas for
agricultural, artisan, and industrial production. Besides the religious and government buildings, there were also exclusive abodes for royal families,
which formed an unprecedented symbolic urban compound. This compound showed a stone construction technology with remarkable aesthetic and
structural properties, such as the Temple of the Sun or Qoricancha. Cuzco was the capital of the Tawantinsuyu Inca Empire, which covered much of the
South American Andes between the 15th and 16th centuries AD. It was abandoned by the Incas when the Spaniards conquered it in the 16th century.

dwellings built of sandstone and mud mortar have been recorded within Mesa Verde National Park, such as the famous multi–storey Cliff Palace,

small storage structures to large villages of 50 to 200 rooms. Many other archaeological sites, like pit–house settlements and masonry–walled villages
of varying size and complexity, are distributed over the mesas. Non–habitation sites include farming terraces and check dams, field houses, reservoirs

a hole dug in the north of the chamber and symbolizes the Ancestral Puebloan's place of emergence from the underworld. Also, starting during the late

All I Need Is You
All I Need Is You
By Lecrae
The song "All I Need is You" is one of Lecrae's most popular songs. The overarching theme of most of his music is his relationship with God and the
strength God has given him to become a good person. The song itself is really good even without really understanding the lyrics. The lyrics he use are
very similar to a guy praying to God. Also the beat to the song is very cool and is one of the main reason why I like the song so much. This song was
nominated for a grammy for "Best Rap Performance" in 2014. I do have a bias towards lecrae because he is one of my favorite artists in both rap and
gospel music.

I think this song relates to our class because Lecrae is able to make gospel/rap music which is a mixture of old teachings with modern day culture. He
also talks about major social issues and how he thinks about them through his religious ideas. This is why I believe that this song is relevant to this
class and why it has been so successful in the music industry.
Why God probably doesn't exist? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHgKBlZaroE This youtube video is a part of the discovery channel and I
found it very unsupported in many aspects. The video is meant to give an argument for suggesting that God did not exist. He uses evidence such as
quotes from scientists and lack of proof about Jesus' existence. The man presenting the argument seems very biased towards an atheistic view and
he does not do a very good job hiding it. I know I have a strong bias towards the existence of God but I have am able to give stronger proof than
using quotes from some scientist that do not believe in God. The argument that scientist do not believe in God was debunked in an earlier video
where he claims that two/thirds of scientists believe in God, so just because two of the most notable did not believe in God is not efficient enough
evidence to use. He also compares the evidence of Siddhartha Gautama's existence to the lack of evidence of Jesus' existence. First off the speaker in
the video made a claim that Jesus' did not exist and there was no primary sources

Early Civilization Research Paper
Five Basic Characteristics of Early Civilization Essay
The five basic characteristics of early civilizations are Advanced Cities, Specialized Workers, Complex Institutions, Record Keeping, and Advanced
Technologies. The first characteristic, {advanced cities}, is considered the birth place of civilizations. An advanced city is a center or trade and
commerce for a large area. In these cities trade is the lifeline. Goods are traded in a place called the Bazaar. Since there was no currency at the time,
people had to use a Barter system which was a way of trading goods and services without using any money.
The second characteristic of early civilization is {Specialized Workers}. Specialization is the development of skills in a specific kind... Show more

Institutions are the long lasting patterns of organizations within a community. An example would be government, this is necessary to maintain and
control large populations of people. The first government was a monarchy. Another institution is Religion, almost all early religions but one were
basically polytheistic. Next would be the Economy, this institution is based around trade. And lastly, Education, this is trained and specialized workers
to replace those who died off. Another complex institution is the Temples. These served at first as the centers of government and trade as well as
religion. In the beginning religious leaders ruled the cities.
Record Keeping, this is the third characteristic of early civilization. Complex life required records for things such as taxes and laws which needed
to be written down, this is called codified. Scribes are professional record keepers and historians. Cuneiform is the Samaritan form of writing. This
was the earliest form of writing ever discovered. Also used was a stylus, this is a sharpened reed or strong stick, wedge shaped point used by scribes
to write on clay tablets. There are four steps to the process of writing, those would be: Pictogram, ideogram, phonogram, and the

Culture and Technology in Athens and Sparta Essay
Culture and Technology in Athens and Sparta
The culture of a society, as determined by its political, social and religious structure, is a major factor in the development of its technology. Even
societies that exist in the same time and environment can progress in different directions, depending on the interests and goals of the public. The ancient
city–states or poleis (polis–sing.) of Athens and Sparta provide an excellent example of how cultural differences influence the development of
technologies.
Athens and Sparta were the main rival poleis in Ancient Greece around 4th century BC. Besides the fact that they were both called polis, the two cities
had very little in common. Athens controlled the whole Attic region and could... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The construction of a city wall was also considered a wasteful display of wealth, which Spartans despised (Pomeroy, p.140).
The different geographic location of Athens and Sparta had a great impact on their military strategy and technologies. Athens was close to the sea,
therefore it expanded by conquering nearby islands. This necessitated the construction of ships, which was expensive and required a lot of wood
material and cheap labor. Both of those were supplied by Athens' allies; wood was purchased with paid tributes and labor came from conquered
slaves (Pomeroy, p.22). Sparta was situated far inland on the Laconian plain and had no access to sea. It directed its military expansion towards the
neighboring poleis and relied mostly on its standing army. In return, its allies were expected to provide military support to the Spartan army in an effort
to appropriate even more land on the Peloponnesian peninsula.
Athens and Sparta shared the same sources of income, agriculture and slave labor, but they managed them in different manners. The slaves in Sparta
were called helots and since they had no rights, they were often treated as tools rather than as human beings. The helots belonged to the state not to
their landlord, so they can be considered a part of the agricultural technology. Since Spartans major obligation in life was serving in the army, they left
the management of their land to

important to both dynasties. While both dynasties were reliant to trade and advancements in technology were also important to the economy. Advances

Scientific Revolution Influence
Beginning in Europe during mid–sixteenth century and lasting until mid–eighteenth century, this period of time saw advancements in mathematics,
physics, astronomy, biology, and chemistry which would lead into modern science. These advancements, however, challenged the doctrine of the
Catholic Church and other previous beliefs. Scientific thinkers such as Copernicus, Newton, and Descartes helped impact Europe through challenging
long–held religious beliefs, changing philosophical beliefs, and introducing new technology. Before the Scientific Revolution, popular beliefs
concerning the world and its functions all led back to the Holy Roman Catholic Church. Perhaps one of the most known beliefs of the Church was its
geocentric theory, where the Earth was the center of the universe instead of the Sun. However this theory was refuted by men such as Copernicus and
Galileo. In 1543, Copernicus wrote On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres, where he discredited the Catholic Church's long held belief. He had
argued that the Sun was in the center of our solar system instead of the Earth, giving way to the heliocentric theory. Then in 1632, Galileo had

Descartes believed in the deductive method where reasoning is found in accordance to multiple premises that are generally found to be true. In short,

Varieties Of Religious Experience By John Updike
Religious Variety In John Updike's short story "Varieties of Religious Experience", he illustrates four different perspectives on the day of the 9/11
attacks and allows for the readers to understand the minds of multiple people on a day that will forever be remembered in American history. Updike
seizes the opportunity to see through various vantage points and it also allows for the readers to have wider sense of faith in the short story. The
opportunity of multiple perspectives suggests that there could be something more from a religious experience especially in an ever–evolving
technology driven society. Honestly, when I first began to read the short story I was confused as to why Updike would use multiple points of view,
but once I had finished I knew that what Updike had done was something only very gifted writers can do. Through each character, Updike allows
for the readers to see what happened and what emotions people of different religions felt on the day of 9/11. Updike's use of multiple protagonists
allows for the reader to see each religious, physical, and mental perspective from that fateful day. The first protagonist the reader is introduced to is
Dan who is a sixty–four Episcopalian lawyer from Cincinnati. On 9/11, Dan sees the attacks as a simple on looker for a Brooklyn penthouse near the
towers that Updike observed the falling towers. Dan, a believer in God until the collapse of the towers, goes through a counter conversion after 9/11.

The Relationship between Science and Religion
The Relationship between Science and Religion The relationship between science and religion will be analyzed in the following three aspects: conflict,
compartmentalization and complementariness. Conflict An essential question on our own existence is bound to evoke our curiosity: where did we
come from? Charles Darwin, in his theory of evolution, believed that human being was evolved from apes. However, the Genesis in Bible considered
that human was created by God. Undoubtedly, it is impossible for human to have two sources. Therefore, science and religion hold absolutely
contrastive viewpoints. That's the basic standpoint of Conflict. Science is full of rationality and impersonality, while religion is filled with ... Show more

Religious faith is the foundation and motivation of scientific rationality's improvement. To some extent, religion promoted science. There is a
religious saying: God saw the light, that is was good, and God divided the light from the darkness. This religious faith promoted people to divide
light from darkness, and it directed them towards science. Meanwhile, science reacts upon religion, stimulates the religious development and achieves
religious goals. Both of them are indispensable. Einstein said, "Science without religion is lame; religion without science is blind", From my
perspective, science and religion are not in conflict or incompatible, but complementary and integral. From papermaking technology used for the
printing of the Buddhist Scriptures to the internet served as preaching religion, both science and religion played an indispensable sole in human

Randy Pausch Last Lecture Analysis
The most inspiring part of Randy Pausch's "Last Lecture" was his attitude. The way he started out by saying he was not their to talk about his
cancer or his family and the way he focused on such a basic thought, as childhood dreams and their importance, was highly insightful. Mr. Pausch
wasn't dwelling on what he has yet to do, but instead focuses on the dreams he has already achieved. When he spoke of being offered the job as a
Disney Imagineer and turning it down, that was a very empowering decision. He had the ability to achieve one of his childhood dreams and chose not
to. It shows how we can adapt those childhood dreams to our lives as we grow and become different things throughout our lives. My personal
motivation is my children

Scientology Going Clear
In Response to Alex Gibney's Going Clear HBO hired 160 precautionary lawyers prior to the production of Going Clear, the explosive documentary
produced by Alex Gibney that aimed to expose tightly kept secrets and beliefs of the Church of Scientology. Undeniably controversial, perhaps what
Going Clear does best is gather testimonies of ex–church members and officials that give the viewer an inside look into the church's practices and
deep ties to Hollywood stars. In addition, Going Clear attempts to explain the roots and core beliefs of the church, placing strong emphasis on the
peculiar life of it's founder L. Ron Hubbard. With the copious amount of shocking information made public by Going Clear, judgements on
Scientology's emergence as a world religion are relevant as ever. To effectively evaluate Scientology and it's inclusion on the world stage, one must
first look back to the roots and beliefs of other world religions and draw comparison. By contrasting Scientology with other religions, accurate
conclusions can be made on various aspects of its existence, such as its validity, survivability and morality. According to... Show more content on

How Did The Silk Road Affect Eurasia
The Silk Road is perhaps the greatest evidence of interaction between the nomadic and sedentary people of Eurasia. Through the trade conducted along
the Silk Road, different communities were able to interact and as such there were impacts witnessed among the early civilizations in China, India,
Greece, Persia, and Rome. One of the greatest impacts of the Silk Road was the introduction of religion by the Arab Muslims into the civilizations of
China. Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, and Islam were religions of the ancient West but these were introduced into China in the olden times. Religious
dynamism was witnessed in the different dynasties of China. Buddhism was introduced in the Eastern Han dynasty. Monks from several dynasties in

Since odd creatures are found in environments similar to Europa's on Earth, then life can possibly survive on the moon. Experts cannot rule out life
under the ice on Europa, because of the similarities to the Earth's environment. Therefore, they must carry on researching. Even though finding similar
environments to inhabitable areas on the Earth is helpful, it may hold little importance when discovering life. Open University's Preston says, "Most
of the environments we used to think were sterile are proving to have life. Every time we think we've found somewhere on Earth that life can't
survive in, we go and find a part of life that can" (Fecht). This could be true on other planets as well, so scientists do not have to look for planets with
similar environments to Earth. Aliens may have adapted to a different environment than Earth's. Scientists have discovered living beings in places on
Earth which seemed unlivable, so if humans look at planets that seem uninhabitable they may find life as well. Once again, with this new knowledge,
scientists should proceed in searching for extraterrestrials. Although some evidence suggests that extraterrestrial life exists in outer space, some
evidence proves otherwise. Lack of valid evidence and economic consequences associated with the search for extraterrestrials discourages scientists to
continue with the investigation. It is possible that if humans ever find aliens, it could be

these may be seen as positive effects of the exchange, it brought lethal diseases to the Native Americans as well. Measles, influenza, and small pox just

Technology and belief have a great deal to do in making a good science fiction novel. Frank Herbert's Dune and Isaac Asimov's Foundation Series give
excellent examples of this. Belief systems are defined as religious beliefs in a society. Technology is defined as the level of science achieved in a
society. These two factors play separate roles in a society. Yet, at times, they fall into the same categories like in the book Dune where science reflects
religious aspects or in Foundation where the society depends on religion and social behavior to survive the onslaught of advanced technology. Religion

the measles outbreak is continuing to grow daily. To address this particular issue is to thoroughly explain the importance of ethical and legal rights

system to create antibodies which will try to prevent future infections with the disease. The importance of vaccinating today's children is to protect
everyone around them and to protect our future generations to come. The CDC issued that 118 of the reported 154 cases are connected to a large,

The force behind this impact was the mass movement of people and their behavior's toward their "New World". It only stands to reason that a clash

Because of the closeness and respect for nature, many natural cures were used. The Aztecs had even gone as far as surgery to remove organs and

Another area in which the Indians thrived was that of agriculture and their understanding of the earth. Europeans had little knowledge of agriculture, or

  • 2. How Religion Shaped Roman Culture One of the main bases of Roman culture is Religion. In fact, almost everything the Roman citizens did revolved around beliefs, gods, and goddesses. Not only was their way of living affected by religion but the progression of advancement in infrastructure and early forms of technology were as well. By examining Roman baths and temples, defixiones, and Romanization of the provinces of the empire it is clear that religion helped to shape Roman advancements in infrastructure and early forms of technology during this time. Aquae Sulis and its baths are a perfect example of how religion affected Roman life and culture. Romans took mineral springs of hot water, declared them sacred, and transformed them into huge public baths and temples for worship. For the Romans believed that emerging one's self into the hot water would bring healing from the goddess Sulis. Without religious beliefs their desire for elaborate worship centers would not exist. As a result, the advanced and fascinating Roman structures found in the city of Aquae Sulis may not have been built either.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Romans often looked to the gods as possible allies during the difficult times and sought to reach out to them in any way they could. Defixiones, or curse tablets, are simply one example. When struggling with life or usually a vendetta against another citizen, the Romans often wrote curses on sheets of lead or pewter dedicated to a specific god or goddess and often threw it into the spring at Aquae Sulis. This is a fantastic example of the Roman's ability to find, create, and produce new means of expressing their religious culture and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Is The Leader Of A Older Religion Called Scientology.... 1.David Miscavige is the leader of a newer religion called Scientology. L. Ron Hubbard is the founder of Scientology and had personally mentored Miscavige during his youth. In 1986, Hubbard passed away and Miscavige became his successor. There are many claims of abuse, especially in more recent times, from ex–members of this religion. The allegations can be tied, either directly or indirectly, to Miscavige and his regulations for the church of Scientology. Probably the most harmful aspect of his leadership is an aspect of this religion that was not necessarily created by Miscavige, but is strongly enforced by him. Disconnection is described as an individual decision to cease communication with someone who is perceived as a threat to one's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He states that disconnection is absolutely enforced on members and is actively used as a fear tactic. It is not just the act of leaving the church that warrants disconnection, but not abiding by rules and speaking out against the church would bring about one being disconnected from any Scientologist, including family members. The family member that is disconnected is treated as if they no longer exist. Some members have been a part of Scientology their entire lives and have no outside education, job experience, money, or support. The act of leaving and would be the act of basically ending their life as they know it. David Miscavige is overseeing this organization that actively applies this abusive practice and is not upfront about it, per Rinder and multiple others including actress Leah Remini (Spargo and Dodge, 2015) who also feared disconnection from her family upon her departure from the church. Rinder states in his blog that the church, mainly Miscavige, knows that this practice is repulsive and uses their website's explanation to convince others to join the church without full knowledge of what they are truly getting involved in. 2.Mike Rinder's (2016) blog points out an interesting and ironic piece about David Miscavige. L. Ron Hubbard wrote about persons that members of the church should look out for. Rinder shows how Hubbard's writings from the 1950s eerily describes Miscavige's current behavior and ... • 4. A Rhetorical Analysis Of The Last Lecture By Randy Pausch Randy Pausch's "The Last Lecture: Achieving Your Childhood Dreams" was given on September 18th, 2007, shortly after being diagnosed with cancer. Randy made his goal of the speech not more than five minutes in, stating the importance of achieving your childhood dreams. The language he is using is very formal, and he appeals to the audience by making several references to common things such as movies, and a humorous quote after he states his current condition, "I'm in better shape than most of you!" as he proceeds doing pushups on stage. In various points in his speech, he is speaking to certain individuals in the audience about things pertaining to his story, and how he achieved some of his childhood dreams with the help of others. Randy really hit it off with everybody, and made the speech untimely, so that anybody at any point in time can view his speech and wonder "is this still relevant?" Near the closing of his speech, he states that he wasn't giving to speech for everybody in the audience; he was giving the speech for his children, as he wouldn't be around for them growing up. At several points in his speech he makes references to common things and statistics, such as MacBook's and how few people have one. At other points he referenced things such as Steve Jobs + Wozniak in their garage, as him and his team build his VR setup for under $5,000.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sometimes, at some points, his story involves somebody who is in the audience, and he points them out and they converse about something in particular, such as part of the story. This way of speaking allows for the audience to think– "Hey, I could be one of the people he is speaking to; I could have done some of these amazing things!" This works perfectly for Randy's goal in the speech – getting the audience to achieve their childhood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Four Year Summary Lane, Charles R. Ask, Thank, Tell: Improving Stewardship Ministry in Your Congregation. Minneapolis: Augsburg Books, 2006. This resource asserts that stewardship is not just about how much money they give to the church. It is about helping them make better decisions financially. A church also has to realize that they could be giving to other organizations, but they are giving to the church. Do not take this for granted. • 6. Causes And Differences Of Medieval Society In Modern Society Modern society is inarguably different from medieval communities, quite frankly it would be terrifying if they were exactly the same. Contemporary culture, in general, is not wholeheartedly focused on the journey to salvation/ religious causes as was more common in medieval communities. Communication, technology and education have broadened the scope of human activity and opportunities. As far as declining religion and social hierarchy, it remains debatable whether it is a cause or effect of modern technology. Though because humans are creatures of habit and conservative as far as change, religious tradition and teachings remain embedded in many communities. Despite similarities based on tradition and inherited values, modern society differs in driving forces and religious prevalence due to a developed and educated environment. One of the most obvious differences between the two time periods is the presence of a social hierarchy. Though it would be naive to say that modern society flourishes with equality and opportunity for all, equality is at least somewhat attempted by many societies. Medieval communities justified opportunity difference with what they called the feudal system. This dictated education and position in regard to other people. Most medieval people believed that God dictated a person position in society and that is where they were meant to stay, as opposed to the modern idea of moving up based on merit (or connections). As far as modern people, there is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was surrounded by clearly defined areas for agricultural, artisan, and industrial production. This compound showed a stone construction technology with remarkable aesthetic and structural properties, such as the Temple of the Sun or Qoricancha. The overarching theme of most of his music is his relationship with God and the strength God has given him to become a good person. The song itself is really good even without really understanding the lyrics. The lyrics he use are very similar to a guy praying to God. Also the beat to the song is very cool and is one of the main reason why I like the song so much. This song was nominated for a grammy for "Best Rap Performance" in 2014. Why God probably doesn't exist? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHgKBlZaroE This youtube video is a part of the discovery channel and I found it very unsupported in many aspects. The video is meant to give an argument for suggesting that God did not exist. He uses evidence such as quotes from scientists and lack of proof about Jesus' existence. The man presenting the argument seems very biased towards an atheistic view and he does not do a very good job hiding it. I know I have a strong bias towards the existence of God but I have am able to give stronger proof than using quotes from some scientist that do not believe in God. The argument that scientist do not believe in God was debunked in an earlier video where he claims that two/thirds of scientists believe in God, so just because two of the most notable did not believe in God is not efficient enough evidence to use. Culture and Technology in Athens and Sparta Essay Culture and Technology in Athens and Sparta The culture of a society, as determined by its political, social and religious structure, is a major factor in the development of its technology. Even societies that exist in the same time and environment can progress in different directions, depending on the interests and goals of the public. The ancient city–states or poleis (polis–sing.) of Athens and Sparta provide an excellent example of how cultural differences influence the development of technologies. The construction of a city wall was also considered a wasteful display of wealth, which Spartans despised (Pomeroy, p.140). The different geographic location of Athens and Sparta had a great impact on their military strategy and technologies. Athens was close to the sea, therefore it expanded by conquering nearby islands. This necessitated the construction of ships, which was expensive and required a lot of wood material and cheap labor. Both of those were supplied by Athens' allies; wood was purchased with paid tributes and labor came from conquered slaves (Pomeroy, p.22). Sparta was situated far inland on the Laconian plain and had no access to sea. It directed its military expansion towards the neighboring poleis and relied mostly on its standing army. In return, its allies were expected to provide military support to the Spartan army in an effort to appropriate even more land on the Peloponnesian peninsula. Athens and Sparta shared the same sources of income, agriculture and slave labor, but they managed them in different manners. The slaves in Sparta were called helots and since they had no rights, they were often treated as tools rather than as human beings. Scientific Revolution Influence Beginning in Europe during mid–sixteenth century and lasting until mid–eighteenth century, this period of time saw advancements in mathematics, physics, astronomy, biology, and chemistry which would lead into modern science. These advancements, however, challenged the doctrine of the Catholic Church and other previous beliefs. Scientific thinkers such as Copernicus, Newton, and Descartes helped impact Europe through challenging long–held religious beliefs, changing philosophical beliefs, and introducing new technology. Before the Scientific Revolution, popular beliefs concerning the world and its functions all led back to the Holy Roman Catholic Church. Perhaps one of the most known beliefs of the Church was its geocentric theory, where the Earth was the center of the universe instead of the Sun. However this theory was refuted by men such as Copernicus and Galileo. In 1543, Copernicus wrote On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres, where he discredited the Catholic Church's long held belief. Updike seizes the opportunity to see through various vantage points and it also allows for the readers to have wider sense of faith in the short story. The opportunity of multiple perspectives suggests that there could be something more from a religious experience especially in an ever–evolving technology driven society. In my paper, I will be discussing these persuasion techniques and showing the different ways each former scientologist impacts the audience through their stories. The Safavid Empire began with a religious revolution but suffered from economic disadvantages and political instability. The Mughal Empire eventually conquered the Indian subcontinent and advanced causes of international communication, religious tolerance, and innovations with Sikhism. Heavily disputed arguments have arisen about whether humans are the sole intelligent beings in the universe. Scientists continuously search for the answer, but the search has not as yet yielded positive results. Billions of dollars have been spent in research, causing controversy about whether scientists should invest in the hunt for extraterrestrial beings. Since odd creatures are found in environments similar to Europa's on Earth, then life can possibly survive on the moon. Experts cannot rule out life under the ice on Europa, because of the similarities to the Earth's environment. Therefore, they must carry on researching. Even though finding similar environments to inhabitable areas on the Earth is helpful, it may hold little importance when discovering life. Open University's Preston says, "Most of the environments we used to think were sterile are proving to have life. Every time we think we've found somewhere on Earth that life can't survive in, we go and find a part of life that can" (Fecht). This could be true on other planets as well, so scientists do not have to look for planets with similar environments to Earth. Aliens may have adapted to a different environment than Earth's. Scientists have discovered living beings in places on Earth which seemed unlivable, so if humans look at planets that seem uninhabitable they may find life as well. Once again, with this new knowledge, scientists should proceed in searching for extraterrestrials. Although some evidence suggests that extraterrestrial life exists in outer space, some evidence proves otherwise. Lack of valid evidence and economic consequences associated with the search for extraterrestrials discourages scientists to continue with the investigation.
