A Day Of Choices Short Story
A Day of Choices This is the private diary of Ashley Jones. Read at your own risk. Today I faced
many choices, several of them minor, a few of them involving holding my temper. After losing it
and yelling at my brother in the morning, will I be able to keep it when conflicts arise later in the
day? Beep! Beep! Beep! I groaned at the incessant beeping of my alarm clock, rolling over to search
for the snooze. I had stayed up until midnight the previous night with an engrossing book, and I was
by no means ready to get up now. Beep! Beep! Beep! "Ashley, time to wake up!" The combined
noises of my alarm clock and my mother calling me, along with the smell of coffee, forced me
awake. I sat in bed for a minute, rubbing my eyes and working up the nerve to step out from under
my warm blankets, then swung my feet onto the floor and headed groggily into the kitchen.
"Ashley! You're up!" squealed my sister, running towards me. I grunted in reply and moved ... Show

I sat down on the couch and opened my book. Unfortunately, James chose that moment to come
around the corner. "Ashley! We have work to do. This is no time for reading. Now, come help me
get hay for the lambs." I slowly put down my book, staring at him. A dozen angry and sarcastic
remarks came into my head, but before I could say them, too other things came to mind. One was
Mom's earlier words about choosing to keep one's temper, and the other was a Bible verse. "A soft
answer turns away wrath." I opened my mouth, determined to go ahead and say everything
anyways, until I remembered the disappointment in my mom's eyes that I had already seen twice
today. No, I couldn't face that again. "James," I said quietly, "I've been working hard all day. I need
a break." "You haven't got hay for the lambs all year!" retorted James. "I've done it every single

Descriptive Essay On Cowboys Play
Don't be surprised if u see #57 flying around the field always around the ball making tackles on
Thursday. Wilson is a tackling machine who has a nose for the football. Backup behind Sean Lee on
Will linebacker spot. He's been compared to last year's fourth round pick Anthony Hitchens, but a
better version of Hitchens (which is no knock to Hitchens because he's a good player.) Athletic and
versatile player who uses his length extremely well to avoid blocks off his body at certain angles
that way he can flow towards the ball without getting hung up on blocks. These are what you call
run–and–chase linebackers. Terrific sure tackler. I'm excited to watch him play because I know how
hard he will work to show the reason why Cowboys drafted him in the fourth round. This kid is the
real deal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cowboys have thrown a lot at him in Training Camp. One play he's lineup at left cornerback, the
second play he's lined up at as the right cornerback, third play he's lined up as nickel cornerback,
fourth play he's lined up at free safety spot in base defense, and the fifth play he's lined up as a
linebacker who covers the tight end. Whew that's a lot for a rookie who's just now coming into NFL
yet alone hasn't played down of football in NFL yet. But to his credit he's so smart and versatile that
he's able to take whatever the coaching staff dishes out to him. Long–arms cornerback who has
speed, athleticism, and quickness. Jones can cover athletic tight ends because of his size, and speed
as well as playing tight man coverage while being able to stay with his man. What I will be looking
for during game is how well he will be able to cover these NFL wide–receivers. If he gets beat on a
play does he mail it in and continue to get beat? Or does he shake it off and goes makes a play the
next time he's targeted. If I was a betting man I would go with the lateral on what Jones

Describe The Characteristics Of A Community Of Learners
Describe the characteristics of a community of learners. There are several characteristics of a
community of learners. These characteristics include: Safety: Students know that they are physically
safe and that they are not in danger in the classroom. Safety also includes students emotional and
mental well–being, meaning that they will be free from emotional damage such as bulling or name–
calling. Respect: The classroom environment is one were respect is a two–way street. In this
classroom students respect the teacher and teacher other, while the teacher shows respect to each of
the students. Any differences that students have from one another are respected and dealt will
appropriately so that students feel safe and welcomed into the classroom community. High
Expectations: In a community of learners, expectations are set by the teacher and are something that
students must work for. Students understand that the expectations are achievable but will require
hard work. These expectations go beyond academics and include student behavior. Risk Taking:
Teachers promote trying new things and introduce students to new ideas and activities. Students are
encouraged to take risks and gain a higher level of thinking. Collaboration: In a community of
learners, students work together in teams, partners, or groups. This allows students to gain social
skills and increases students' motivation for the project. Students share ideas and gain a new
understanding of the content.

Mary Grace Reeves Research
The Story Behind My Name: Mary Grace Reeves The Story of My Search A person's name is their
most important characteristic and is often comprised of hidden significance and centurial "hand–
me–downs". When I was assigned to research my name, I had never thought of the importance of
the name my parents had given me. As a child, I always found it annoying when my peers turned to
snicker at me each time our church's music minister asked for the congregation to stand and sing
"Amazing Grace." Each time I heard the song "Mary Had a Little Lamb", there was always
someone near to ask, "Hey, where is your lamb?" After conducting research, though, I began to find
little things that made me more appreciative of my name. What I learned To begin my research, I
looked for the origin and meaning behind my first name, Mary. This name was passed down to me
from my paternal grandmother, Mary Etta Reeves, better known as "Mawmaw". I was also named
after both of my maternal great grandmothers, Mary Evelyn Williams and Mary Dorothy Edwards
(Reeves). Upon further research, I found that there are several theories for this name's meaning
including "sea of bitterness" and "rebelliousness". Also, "Mary" is the name ... Show more content

That just goes to show how many of "you" there can be. After this essay, I found that when
researching on the Internet or in books, there could be many meanings for one thing. This is why it
is important to check the reliability of a source, and that is what I believe has helped me most. One
other important thing I have learned from this research paper is how to accurately use parenthetical
documentation, as well as setting up my "Works Cited" page. I think this will aid me in the future
when writing research papers in the

Summary Of Herman Melville's 'The Whale'
An eleventh grader named Tom had to learn that if don't stay awake in class you won't learn
anything so you won't know anything.Tom was a relatively smart kid except when it came to his
third block reading class. He would always fail to stay awake in there simply because he thought it
was so boring. During his second block Tom would set a goal for himself to stay awake in his next
class but he secretly knew he wasn't going to endure this plan. When the bell rung Tom went to the
restroom and splashed water on his eyes this time in hopes that this will keep him up for long
enough. Little did he know the lesson for today was different than the usual. When he got to class he
did his usual routine of chatting with his friends first and his peers would include a teasing of his
daily naps he takes in the class, but Tom brushes it off while going to sit down when the teacher
enters the room. "We are going to do something a little different today, we are going to read a book
called The Whale by Herman Melville", says the teacher. The class groans leisurely as the teacher
passes out the vast books to the students Tom being the loudest. The teacher gives the class the
assignment to read to themselves until the end of class. Tom starts to look around the room just
watching everyone else open their books and start to read, then he hesitantly looks at his book with
dread hoping that it would just grow legs and walk away. He figures that he might as well start so he

Thomas Builds To Say Phoenix Arizona Essay
The future is unclear to see because of the multiple interpretations to one event. Seeing events and
only being able to describe a possible outcome is what the character Thomas Builds–the–Fire in
Sherman Alexie's, "This Is What it means To Say Phoenix, Arizona," can do. The ability has been
once praised in cultures around the world but is now looked down upon. Thomas has lost a lifestyle
that he was never able to have because he follows his ability including his friendships he has
created. For this reason, Thomas Builds–the–Fire is now an outcast to the town's society; however,
he looks after his old friend Victor because of his loyalty to Victor's father, believes in his visions
can help his community, and the chance of obtaining new visions.
The loyalty Thomas portrays to looking after Victor is towards a promise made to Victor's father.
Two years after making the promise, at the age fifteen, "... Victor and Thomas got into a fistfight, "
after Victor got drunk which, "The beating might of have gone on until Thomas was dead..." (Alexie

Black America's Naming Practices
Black America's naming practices are a cultural standard which combine religious and or spiritual
belief, identity at individual, family and community levels and, empowerment, along with internal
and external perception. This is true of many cultures but it is especially important for cultures
which have been historically and or systematically marginalized. Many of the naming practices are
shared across minority and indigenous cultures. Ethnic naming is often intended to convey
meaningful messages, invoke personal and group power and even provide blessings. Unfortunately
the names are often used as a tool to further marginalization instead of one which will realize the
goal of enhanced self–determination.
Rather than attempting to understand naming practices or the names themselves, people often mock,
scorn and marginalize the person attached to the name. Jamelle Bouie, a writer from the Daily
Beast, in an article titled, "Are Black Names 'Weird,' or Are You Just Racist?", found what many
black people have been well aware of: there is a double standard concerning the uniqueness of the
Black American name versus unique White names. (Bouie) He, along with other writers and
researchers found that "job applicants with 'black–sounding' names are more likely to be rejected,
regardless of qualifications. " This raises a serious question: how can people realize self–
determination if they cannot move beyond, even, the interview stage? A possible answer is the
adoption of a

What Did I Learn In English Class
Everyone has done some reading assignments in their life, either reading quietly or reading loudly.
For me, I enjoy reading to others. However, when I was in the elementary school of United States, I
cannot do that. At that time, my English was poor. My first English class developed my reading
confidence a lot. Ms. Gonzales was the teacher for that class. For that class, Mrs. Gonzales always
picks random student to read for others. Because of that, I get lots of practice on my reading skill.
However, in the beginning of the semester, she does not pick me at all. In my opinion, she tried to
protect my self–esteem. The reason of that is she does not want other people laughing at me due to
my poor English. Although she does not pick me, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

read the book a lot. When she was free, she always read some books for fun. Furthermore, she can

felt the time is not enough for me, and I started to sweat. While practicing, I hoped Samantha could
slow her reading. However, She only took five minutes on her part. After she done, the sub–teacher
said, "next. " Jack started to read. Before he started, I talked with Jack, "why she picked on this row.
" Jack looked at me and said,"I do not know, it is not my fault." Then, I gave him a smile, and he
started to read. At that time, I think Jack should spend a long time to finish it because of he and me
both from China. We cannot speak perfect English, and the only difference between us, Jack known
more vocabularies than me. However, after he read the first sentence, I got surprised by him. He
pounced every word correctly and clearly. Everyone enjoyed his reading. Three minutes later, Jack
has done his part, and he gave me a big smile. The sub–teacher said, "The guy with the black shirt, it
is your turn. "
After she said that, I shocked. Not only by the time, but also I did not prepare well on my part. I
started to think about how to read how each word pounced. Jack told me,"Yuxiang, It is your turn."
He pulled me from the thinking. Then I

Personal Narrative : The Great Gatsby
Have you ever lit your pants on fire!?! Thankfully, neither have I, but I did make a fool of myself in
front of my entire class. All of my teachers and classmates know that I am a slow reader, but I
usually never do anything wrong. That is why it became such a shocking and hilarious experience
when I finally did something wrong. I learned the hard way, through slight humiliation, that you
should always follow an instructor's exact directions no matter the circumstance.
During the month of May, 2017, my Language Arts class was assigned a book project. Everyone
received a book and worksheets that went along with the book, which helped us understand the
meanings and ideas in the book. That year we read The Great Gatsby. The teacher would ... Show

My teacher possessed a peculiar sense of humor and after she finished reading the chapter she said
in a villainous tone, "It might be smart to review your worksheets for a surprise quiz tomorrow."
Accompanying her evil statement was an equally evil smile that traversed her face. The evil nature
of her smile even gave me goosebumps. Taking her word that there was going to be a pop quiz
tomorrow, I made sure that I attained my book and worksheets to study with that night. The next
day, as promised, she handed out a short pop quiz. It was not as challenging as she tried to make it
sound. It presented only five multiple choice questions on it. Once we finished our quizzes, she told
us to read the next chapter silently. Once I finished my quiz at the speed of light, I decided to finish
other homework, since I preferred to read at home anyway. So while the rest of my class was
reading, I worked on homework. Thirty minutes later, I completely finished all of my other
assignments, so I decided to start reading the chapter. After nearly two paragraphs in, my teacher
interrupted the class to see if everyone finished reading the chapter. Unknown to me, the chapter
was fairly short and everyone, but me, finished it. Raising my hand slowly, I told her that I had not
finished reading. Everyone in my class turned around and stared at me. The teacher asked me how
far I was in the chapter and how much time I needed to

Reflection About Reading
According to a survey done by the Pew Research Center in 2016, "About a quarter of American
adults (26%) say they haven't read a book in whole or in part in the past year, whether in print,
electronic or audio form." I believe I form part of this demographic group because I don't like
reading books. I would say that my past experiences have made me into being a non reader.
Therefore, I will explain to you my process of how I learned to read and who influenced my
success, what were my favorite books back then and now, and how my past experiences have
shaped me into the reader I think I am.Thus, I believe that I am not a reader. I learned how to read in
school with the help of my parents and teacher. I was about seven years old and in the first grade
when I was taught how to read .Every morning my teacher would make us say and pronounce the
sound of each letter in the alphabet. After this she would make us put these skills into practice. For
example, she would make us read short stories as a group on a squared rug she had in her classroom.
My teacher would start off by reading the first page of the story and then she would popcorn a
student to continue reading. If a student was struggling with a word she would make he/she sound it
out syllable by syllable until reading it correctly. Furthermore, my parents would make me reread
the short stories read in class to them each day and they would buy me many books to read.Without

Louis Offseason Case Study
The Cleveland Browns offseason is underway and it started with a complete facelift. The coaching
staff is filling out and soon will be the time to start analyzing the roster. The Browns are in desperate
need of playmakers at multiple positions. They need a cornerback to line up opposite of Joe Haden.
Also, a run stopping inside linebacker or a puss rushing outside linebacker would help
tremendously. They could also use a wide receiver and a quarterback. Cleveland is still undecided
on Johnny Manziel and has Josh McCown under contract for two more seasons. The quarterback
position may be addressed through the NFL draft and will not be covered in this article. Although,

Louis Rams counterpart, Trumaine Johnson is another pending free agent. In 13 starts, he picked off
seven passes, defended another 17 and made 71 tackles, all career highs. Not to mention, Johnson
will probably have a cheaper price tag than Jenkins. Danny Trevathan recovered from knee surgery
to lead the Denver Broncos with 110 tackles. The inside linebacker can hold up in coverage too with
six defended passes and two picks. The Youngstown native is entering his prime and could be
expensive, but would totally be worth it. Unfortunately, Denver won't likely let Trevathan slip
through their grasps. Another option is Brandon Marshall who also recovered from an injury,
Lisfranc. He was second on the Broncos with 102 tackles marking his second consecutive 100
tackle season. He is a complete linebacker with the ability to stuff the run or drop back in coverage.
Fortunately, the Broncos might not be able to retain Trevathan, Marshall and their star outside
linebacker Von Miller. Cleveland needs a pass rusher who can get to the quarterback. Although
Miller is unlikely to leave Denver, it would be amazing to add his 11 sacks and 32 quarterback hits

is not quite ready to give up on being a starting quarterback down the road. "He is still working on
quarterback stuff, so he is not focusing on receiver," Holgorsen said. "He is not getting better at
receiver. He will play receiver. He is not Deion Sanders, where he kind of just goes in there and
does some things. He is a young kid with a lot of eligibility left. Until he focuses on a specific thing,
he is not going to be great at it. He is focusing on quarterback, but you will see him get in there,
because we have no depth at receiver right now. He needs to help us out. He is a team player, and
we appreciate that." With the spring winding down, the defense is not quite game ready but

Personal Narrative: What Is In A Name

Essay about Red Badge Of Courage
The Red Badge of Courage by Stephan Crane traces the effects of war on a Union
Soldier, Henry Fleming, from his dreams of soldiering, to his actual enlistment, and through several
battles of the Civil War. Henry Fleming was not happy with his boring life on the farm. He wanted

Henry was scared, confused, and in a trance as he saw his forces depleting. He finally got up and
started running like a proverbial chicken, who has lost the direction of safety. After running away,
Henry started rationalizing his behavior in running from the enemy. At first he feels he was a stupid
coward for running, then he feels he was just saving himself for later. He felt nature didn't want him
to die, even though his side is losing. He believes he was intelligent for running and yet hopes he
will die in battle just for spite.
In returning to the fields, he met the tattered soldier, wounded and retreating. In the next charge,
Henry and the tattered soldier see Jim, also wounded, die a slow and painful death. After
Jim's death, the tattered soldier questions Henry on his wounds and Henry, reaping his actions from
selfish fear, leaves the tattered man alone on the battlefield, dying, and dangerous to himself.
Returning to the battle Henry stumbles on a retreating regiment and begs the soldiers to explain why
they are running. He grabbed a comrade by the arm, begging, not letting go, so the man hit
Henry over the head with the butt of his rifle, giving Henry his first Red Badge of Courage.
Dazed, Henry stumbles around the battlefield struggling to stay on his feet, until a cheery man
comes around and helps Henry to get back to his regiment. At his regiment he confronts Wilson who

Somalians could sustain their life by fishing. In the 1990s, starting with Somalia's civil war, foreign
ships began illegal fishing operation. Not only the illegal work, but also ships released industrial
waste around the Somalia's coast. Angry fisherman could not endure more about the situation and
protected their area by shooting guns to the foreign ships. At the beginning, it started to keep their
ocean by having a name of civil militia. There were no plunders, but when the business people and
the army intervene, they were aggressively changed. Somalia is also the country in Africa who has

conditions make Somalia, the best place for piracy. The amount of money they got from the

The Importance Of Perfection In We Were Liars
It is true that no one is perfect. One can then assume that people should strive to be perfect either.
Perfection is boring anyways. 6.15 percent of the U.S. has depression, and 18 percent have anxiety.
It is the most common mental illness in America. The reason of this is because we always try to
reach perfection, and people are disappointed when it does not happen. This is shown a multitude of
times in We Were Liars. Trying to be perfect causes so much heartache that could be avoided.
People need to realize that perfection is boring, and being the best them is better. "Not one of these
symbols of prosperity and taste has any use at all." (Lockhart 45). This quote from We Were Liars is
very true. Basically what it is saying is this: in the end, all of these pretty things and expensive
brands is not going to mean anything. "My Liars, my darlings. I killed them." (Lockhart 209). It is
like here in the book. Cadence finds out her best friends are dead, and all the other things her family
worried about means nothing. The reason that people are attached to materialistic things because
they feel it makes them better and boosts their status. People want to
2 boost their status to reach some sort of perfection. If they would realize that other things matter
more than perfection and materialistic things, then they would not seem so important anymore. Race
is another thing that society tries to pull apart and perfect. "He was a stranger in our family even
after all those years." (Lockhart 30). This quote shows that race is, in fact, an "issue" that people
pick at. Usually it is people who think they are perfect. Anyone who thinks this is just plain wrong.
Any person who believes they are better than someone because of their race is wrong. The Sinclair
family tries so hard to be perfect that it hurts others. Meaning Gat. They push him away and make
him feel alienated because they are worried of what other people might think. No one should be hurt
at someone else's hand, just because they think they are superior to the other person. People try so
hard to be perfect that it hurts them. This is one reason why I think Cadence is depressed. Cadence
is surrounded by people who try so hard to be perfect,

A Friend is injured, beaten, and blamed. You stand as a witness and accomplice to his pain, yet your
voice remains silent, and it tears you apart. Do you confess? It feels like an impossible choice, but
one that should not be taken lightly. Since he was a child, Amir has been carrying the weight of his
own guilt for not aiding Hassan during his time of great need. This sin has kept him from enjoying
the life that he once knew, because the knowledge that he should have done something gnaws at the
back of his head, and the repercussions of his actions have had an opposite effect of what he was
expecting. Amir is a coward, but knows he is in the wrong and seeks redemption, as an
overwhelming need to be punished grows within him. As time passes, Amir seeks the truths of
redemption, and realizes that one can be redeemed through courage, sacrifice, and loyalty. ... Show

Competency, The, And The Diversity Of The Student...
Competency 2:
The teacher is aware of the diversity of the student population and provides instruction that is
appropriate for all students. In Chapter 3, "Focusing the Reader" of Deeper Reading, Kelly
Gallagher provides pre–service teachers with a greater understanding of the importance of
frontloading students with background knowledge of readings. She explains through an anecdote
that prior knowledge leads students to be "better prepared to read more, to comprehend more, and to
learn more" (26). Without prior knowledge, students are unable to understand and retain information
as well because, as Gallagher explains, it "helps you attach meaning when reading the passage"
(27). Teachers should gauge students' prior knowledge to the text before beginning with a unit to
understand how to teach their students in a more meaningful manner. There are two key elements
that Gallagher points out, through the reading of David Sousa, in how to frame information for
students: "...be certain that today's curriculum contains connections to their past experiences, not
just [the teacher's]... [And] how a person feels about a learning situation determines the amount of
attention devoted to it" (28–29). These two points mean that: a teacher must connect students to
personal experiences in order to bring to light universal issues in a text that they may not necessarily
connect with on their own, and a teacher must be able to show purpose in the text that is "valid and
worthwhile" (29) for the

Gage Maloun Case Summary
The fist case is The Gage Maloun Case, the dead of a 7–month–old toodler. James Maloun, father of
the victim, was taking care of him while the mother of the child was visiting her mother. James

that Gage had stopped breathing and was unresponsive so he call for help. The cause of death was
blunt force head trauma and the mechanism of death was asphyxia. Forensic pathologist Daniel

axons in his brainstem were damaged by shaking that damaged his brain" (Fry, 2012). When James
shook Gage, he injured the axons in his nervous system and the signals controlling breathing were
lost so he stopped breathing causing his death. Davis focuses his testimony on shaken baby

Comparing Teacher Read-Alouds And Round-Robin Reading
Two strategies I witnessed firsthand in my field placement, but were deemed ineffective were
Teacher Read–Alouds and Round–Robin Reading. Choosing these to as unsuccessful is polarizing,
because Teacher Read–Alouds are usually characterized as effective, whereas Round–Robin
Reading is considered an outdated method. In fact, McLaughlin states that one of all educators' main
goals should be to eliminate this "dated method of reading" from all classrooms (141). While these
strategies were both deemed ineffective, they were used in very different scenarios and the Read–
Aloud was not the teacher's choice. The Teacher Read–Aloud strategy was witnessed during an
Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress (ISTEP) practice test. It was mentioned ... Show

In M464, it was said that a purpose must be set for reading and questioning is a vital aspect of the
transactional reading process (M464 session 2 module). Both of these seemed to fit more into a
transmission model of teaching. The Teacher Read–Aloud was simply in place to get the students to
hear the information. It is unlikely that the reader of the ISTEP instructions actually believes that
students are engaged and actively listening to every word they say. When the Round–Robin Reading
was used, there was very little time in class. Therefore, it seemed more like a quick way to introduce
the students to the text. Perhaps the class would go back over the material that was read during this
session, which is unknown without further observation sessions. In short, both of these strategies
were used to quickly give students information. Assessment methods of these strategies included
students successfully following the directions the teacher was reading, and students successfully
reading the excerpts during the Round–Robin

This question which is narrowed down by the results in a complicated statistical form does not
address the fact that each comparison group that Margo chose was not labeled as deficient in the
classroom or on their standardized test as the Team Read readers were when they were chosen for
Team Read. These results that were detailed in Margo's evaluation lacked credibility as the sample
comparison group was generally not the same as the Team Read program participants. The
participant often took what is referred to as a similar test but differs in comparison which can cause
validity issues around the board for the independent evaluator. The second research question the
independent evaluator chose to ask was how does the program affect the reading coaches? This
question was extremely general and could be answered in a number of different ways; Margo chose
a questionnaire that was answered by Team Read coaches to determine whether or not they were
impacted by the Team Read Program. The results were generally positive as Trish McKay had felt
the same way about the results, as they were looked upon in a positive light. The questionnaire was
administered towards the late stages of the school year as students were beginning to wind down all
programs and head into summer. This questionnaire differed in response from one area to the next
on certain questionnaire questions which directly gives the Team Read program information and
data that can be interpreted to change policy

What Is The Symbolism In The Fall Of The House Of Usher
The dark and morbid tale of "The Fall of the House of Usher" has been interpreted in many different
ways over time, the symbolism in the tale giving people the power to think up theories upon theories
regarding it. However, there is one theory in particular that makes the most sense. That theory is the
idea that the narrator is actually dreaming all of the events that occur at the House of Usher, and that
the nightmare is simply a place where his darkest desires and thoughts can lurk in the back of his
mind. At the very start of the tale, the narrator receives a letter from his ailing friend, Roderick,
asking him to come visit in his time of need. This letter could be symbolic of his inner thoughts
reminding him that, while unpleasant, they still exist and they tempt him to indulge them for a
while. In the text, the narrator explicitly references the fact that he is happy, and Roderick is not.
"The writer spoke of acute bodily illness –– of a mental disorder which oppressed him –– and of an
earnest desire to see me, as his best, and indeed his only personal friend, with a view of attempting,
by the cheerfulness of my society, some alleviation of his malady." (15, Poe)

The narrator claims that the Usher family is "...in other words, that the entire family lay in the direct
line of descent, and had always, with very trifling and very temporary variation, so lain." (21, Poe)
This suggests that incest is a popular thing within the Usher family. Engaging in incestual
relationships is perceived as one of the most taboo and unspeakable acts for humans to commit, so it
only makes sense that the narrator would push something like that to the farthest and darkest corner
of his mind. He pushes it so far away, it goes completely unnoticed by himself and almost by the
reader as

Teacher Reflection Paper
From my years in elementary school, middle school, and now high school, I have had many
different teachers who have an impact on my life and my educational growth. There's one teacher
though, who went above and beyond any other teacher I have had and that's why she had such a
great impact on my learning ability. When I was in elementary school, I never thought much of
reading books. I always saw books as things I did not want to dive into and read. Instead my head
was thinking about either football, baseball or recess. My mom always encouraged me to read
books. During the summer, I can remember my mom keeping my brothers and me inside for 30
minutes and making us read a chapter of a book before we could go back outside. It was the last day
of summer going into my 4th grade year, and I was not ready for school to start. I was that typical
kid who just wanted to spend my whole day hanging with my friends outside and not having to go
to school. So I always dreaded the first day of school.
I have gone the day before school started to check and see who my homeroom teacher was. The
teacher I got was Mrs.Wellbaum ,and I had no idea who she was. I just really got excited because I

Many times when we are given the choice to read or not we will pick the latter because we know
that no matter what nothing the teacher can say will get us excited for the assignment. Teachers need
to also realize that they are the reason for our animosity towards reading. When a teacher assigns a
book they are usually very sullen about the idea of the assignment. By having this expression the
teacher is setting the mood for the reading and discouraging us from reading. When I was sitting in
my freshman English class my teacher got out her large teacher's addition of the textbook flipped to
Romeo and Juliet and stated in a monotone voice for us to get out our books and read silently to
ourselves. As a result the story of Romeo and Juliet agitates and bores me. The impression my
teacher had for the story was impressed upon me an aversion to it. When giving a reading
assignment teacher should be excited and enthusiastic about reading, so that to impress upon the us
an impression of enjoyment for the reading. We should feel the same enthusiasm as Malcolm X did
when he states, "The best thing I could do was get hold of a dictionary–to study, or to learn some
words."(Malcolm X, 354) As we do when they pick up a book but, without time to read it is hard for
us to enjoy it. Teachers should help to encourage us to feel excited by making time in class for us to

Theme Of Literature In The Kite Runner
Literature is a very important factor of Amir's life. He is not a boy that would people would label as
a "normal" boy. If he were to live in modern America, he would be classified as a nerd. His love of
literature would probably get him beat up and and harassed. In the setting of The Kite Runner, a
major part of the reason that Amir is not black and blue with bruises is Hassan. The literature has an
effect on Amir and his relationships. Amir's love of written art draws Hassan closer while pushing
Baba away. Because he was born a certain way, Hassan was never permitted to learn to read or
write. "But despite his illiteracy, or maybe because of it, Hassan was drawn to the mystery of words,
seduced by a secret world forbidden to him." (28). Amir understood Hassan's interest because he too
was enticed by literature. Without even knowing how much it would one day effect Hassan's life,
Amir read to him. "So I read him unchallenging things, like the misadventures of Mullah Nasruddin
and his donkey." (28). With Amir continuing to read to Hassan, Hassan gained knowledge. He
gained affection for Amir, because Amir shared things with Hassan that no other had ever shared
with him. "His favorite story, and mine, was 'Rostam and Sohrab,' the tale of the great warrior
Rostam and his fleet–footed horse Rakhsh." (29). The boys grow to love the same stories. If Amir
had not read to Hassan when they were children, Hassan never would have heard of the name
Sohrab and grown to love it with

Arden Key Case Analysis
The true wildcard of the 2018 NFL Draft has to be LSU edge rusher Arden Key. He is viewed as a
big–time boom or bust prospect, and it is very tough to gauge his value. With the Bears obvious
need for an edge rusher, all options need to be analyzed and considered. With his down year and off
the field issues, he is falling on some draft boards after being viewed as a future top fice draft pick
before this season. Below is a review of this polarizing draft prospect. Player: Arden Key Position:
EDGE College: LSU Size: 6'6", 238 LBS Positives His sophomore year production was ridiculously
good. Like I mentioned previously, analysts were already labeling him as a future top–five draft
pick after an incredible year for LSU. He was even the first ... Show more content on

For those not familiar, Key left the team the Spring of 2017 for personal reasons. Many thought he
would be back, which he did, but the mystery of why he left has not been solved. Key has said
himself that he has been 100% upfront with NFL teams on why he left the team, but it is still
unknown to the public why he left. NFL GM's probably appreciate that he is being honest, but might
not like the answer that he is giving still. We really won't know until draft night if it is a serious
issue, because if he falls far enough, it must be a reason why. He had a big dip in production in
2017. Arden Key showed flashes of his 2016 season level of play but never did it consistently. A big
reason why is because he ballooned up to 270 pounds, after playing at 238 pounds. This likely goes
back to what happened when he left the team in the Spring. You noticed throughout the season that
he was getting thinner, and his play improved with that. It is hard for a guy to match those insane
numbers he had the previous season when you go through a body change like that, plus you are not
involved in football activities during that time. Some say that he should have gone back to school
one more year to show that he can play like his 2016 self, but he elected to declare for the NFL

A Day Of Choices Short Story

  • 1. A Day Of Choices Short Story A Day of Choices This is the private diary of Ashley Jones. Read at your own risk. Today I faced many choices, several of them minor, a few of them involving holding my temper. After losing it and yelling at my brother in the morning, will I be able to keep it when conflicts arise later in the day? Beep! Beep! Beep! I groaned at the incessant beeping of my alarm clock, rolling over to search for the snooze. I had stayed up until midnight the previous night with an engrossing book, and I was by no means ready to get up now. Beep! Beep! Beep! "Ashley, time to wake up!" The combined noises of my alarm clock and my mother calling me, along with the smell of coffee, forced me awake. I sat in bed for a minute, rubbing my eyes and working up the nerve to step out from under my warm blankets, then swung my feet onto the floor and headed groggily into the kitchen. "Ashley! You're up!" squealed my sister, running towards me. I grunted in reply and moved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I sat down on the couch and opened my book. Unfortunately, James chose that moment to come around the corner. "Ashley! We have work to do. This is no time for reading. Now, come help me get hay for the lambs." I slowly put down my book, staring at him. A dozen angry and sarcastic remarks came into my head, but before I could say them, too other things came to mind. One was Mom's earlier words about choosing to keep one's temper, and the other was a Bible verse. "A soft answer turns away wrath." I opened my mouth, determined to go ahead and say everything anyways, until I remembered the disappointment in my mom's eyes that I had already seen twice today. No, I couldn't face that again. "James," I said quietly, "I've been working hard all day. I need a break." "You haven't got hay for the lambs all year!" retorted James. "I've done it every single ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Descriptive Essay On Cowboys Play Don't be surprised if u see #57 flying around the field always around the ball making tackles on Thursday. Wilson is a tackling machine who has a nose for the football. Backup behind Sean Lee on Will linebacker spot. He's been compared to last year's fourth round pick Anthony Hitchens, but a better version of Hitchens (which is no knock to Hitchens because he's a good player.) Athletic and versatile player who uses his length extremely well to avoid blocks off his body at certain angles that way he can flow towards the ball without getting hung up on blocks. These are what you call run–and–chase linebackers. Terrific sure tackler. I'm excited to watch him play because I know how hard he will work to show the reason why Cowboys drafted him in the fourth round. This kid is the real deal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cowboys have thrown a lot at him in Training Camp. One play he's lineup at left cornerback, the second play he's lined up at as the right cornerback, third play he's lined up as nickel cornerback, fourth play he's lined up at free safety spot in base defense, and the fifth play he's lined up as a linebacker who covers the tight end. Whew that's a lot for a rookie who's just now coming into NFL yet alone hasn't played down of football in NFL yet. But to his credit he's so smart and versatile that he's able to take whatever the coaching staff dishes out to him. Long–arms cornerback who has speed, athleticism, and quickness. Jones can cover athletic tight ends because of his size, and speed as well as playing tight man coverage while being able to stay with his man. What I will be looking for during game is how well he will be able to cover these NFL wide–receivers. If he gets beat on a play does he mail it in and continue to get beat? Or does he shake it off and goes makes a play the next time he's targeted. If I was a betting man I would go with the lateral on what Jones ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Mary Grace Reeves Research The Story Behind My Name: Mary Grace Reeves The Story of My Search A person's name is their most important characteristic and is often comprised of hidden significance and centurial "hand– me–downs". When I was assigned to research my name, I had never thought of the importance of the name my parents had given me. As a child, I always found it annoying when my peers turned to snicker at me each time our church's music minister asked for the congregation to stand and sing "Amazing Grace." Each time I heard the song "Mary Had a Little Lamb", there was always someone near to ask, "Hey, where is your lamb?" After conducting research, though, I began to find little things that made me more appreciative of my name. What I learned To begin my research, I looked for the origin and meaning behind my first name, Mary. This name was passed down to me from my paternal grandmother, Mary Etta Reeves, better known as "Mawmaw". I was also named after both of my maternal great grandmothers, Mary Evelyn Williams and Mary Dorothy Edwards (Reeves). Upon further research, I found that there are several theories for this name's meaning including "sea of bitterness" and "rebelliousness". Also, "Mary" is the name ... Summary Of Herman Melville's 'The Whale' An eleventh grader named Tom had to learn that if don't stay awake in class you won't learn anything so you won't know anything.Tom was a relatively smart kid except when it came to his third block reading class. He would always fail to stay awake in there simply because he thought it was so boring. During his second block Tom would set a goal for himself to stay awake in his next class but he secretly knew he wasn't going to endure this plan. When the bell rung Tom went to the restroom and splashed water on his eyes this time in hopes that this will keep him up for long enough. Little did he know the lesson for today was different than the usual. When he got to class he did his usual routine of chatting with his friends first and his peers would include a teasing of his daily naps he takes in the class, but Tom brushes it off while going to sit down when the teacher enters the room. "We are going to do something a little different today, we are going to read a book called The Whale by Herman Melville", says the teacher. The class groans leisurely as the teacher passes out the vast books to the students Tom being the loudest. The teacher gives the class the assignment to read to themselves until the end of class. • 7. Black America's Naming Practices Black America's naming practices are a cultural standard which combine religious and or spiritual belief, identity at individual, family and community levels and, empowerment, along with internal and external perception. This is true of many cultures but it is especially important for cultures which have been historically and or systematically marginalized. Many of the naming practices are shared across minority and indigenous cultures. Ethnic naming is often intended to convey meaningful messages, invoke personal and group power and even provide blessings. Unfortunately the names are often used as a tool to further marginalization instead of one which will realize the goal of enhanced self–determination. Rather than attempting to understand naming practices or the names themselves, people often mock, scorn and marginalize the person attached to the name. Jamelle Bouie, a writer from the Daily Beast, in an article titled, "Are Black Names 'Weird,' or Are You Just Racist?", found what many black people have been well aware of: there is a double standard concerning the uniqueness of the Black American name versus unique White names. (Bouie) He, along with other writers and researchers found that "job applicants with 'black–sounding' names are more likely to be rejected, regardless of qualifications. " This raises a serious question: how can people realize self– determination if they cannot move beyond, even, the interview stage? A possible answer is the adoption of a ... • 10. Personal Narrative : The Great Gatsby Have you ever lit your pants on fire!?! Thankfully, neither have I, but I did make a fool of myself in front of my entire class. All of my teachers and classmates know that I am a slow reader, but I usually never do anything wrong. That is why it became such a shocking and hilarious experience when I finally did something wrong. I learned the hard way, through slight humiliation, that you should always follow an instructor's exact directions no matter the circumstance. During the month of May, 2017, my Language Arts class was assigned a book project. Everyone received a book and worksheets that went along with the book, which helped us understand the meanings and ideas in the book. That year we read The Great Gatsby. The teacher would ... Accompanying her evil statement was an equally evil smile that traversed her face. The evil nature of her smile even gave me goosebumps. Taking her word that there was going to be a pop quiz tomorrow, I made sure that I attained my book and worksheets to study with that night. The next day, as promised, she handed out a short pop quiz. It was not as challenging as she tried to make it sound. It presented only five multiple choice questions on it. Once we finished our quizzes, she told us to read the next chapter silently. Once I finished my quiz at the speed of light, I decided to finish other homework, since I preferred to read at home anyway. So while the rest of my class was reading, I worked on homework. Thirty minutes later, I completely finished all of my other assignments, so I decided to start reading the chapter. After nearly two paragraphs in, my teacher interrupted the class to see if everyone finished reading the chapter. Unknown to me, the chapter was fairly short and everyone, but me, finished it. Raising my hand slowly, I told her that I had not finished reading. Everyone in my class turned around and stared at me. Reflection About Reading According to a survey done by the Pew Research Center in 2016, "About a quarter of American adults (26%) say they haven't read a book in whole or in part in the past year, whether in print, electronic or audio form." I believe I form part of this demographic group because I don't like reading books. I would say that my past experiences have made me into being a non reader. Therefore, I will explain to you my process of how I learned to read and who influenced my success, what were my favorite books back then and now, and how my past experiences have shaped me into the reader I think I am.Thus, I believe that I am not a reader. I learned how to read in school with the help of my parents and teacher. I was about seven years old and in the first grade when I was taught how to read .Every morning my teacher would make us say and pronounce the sound of each letter in the alphabet. After this she would make us put these skills into practice. For example, she would make us read short stories as a group on a squared rug she had in her classroom. My teacher would start off by reading the first page of the story and then she would popcorn a student to continue reading. If a student was struggling with a word she would make he/she sound it out syllable by syllable until reading it correctly. Furthermore, my parents would make me reread the short stories read in class to them each day and they would buy me many books to read.Without everyones dedication and passion I wouldn't have ... The coaching staff is filling out and soon will be the time to start analyzing the roster. The Browns are in desperate need of playmakers at multiple positions. They could also use a wide receiver and a quarterback. Cleveland is still undecided on Johnny Manziel and has Josh McCown under contract for two more seasons. • 21. The Importance Of Perfection In We Were Liars It is true that no one is perfect. One can then assume that people should strive to be perfect either. Perfection is boring anyways. 6.15 percent of the U.S. has depression, and 18 percent have anxiety. It is the most common mental illness in America. The reason of this is because we always try to reach perfection, and people are disappointed when it does not happen. This is shown a multitude of times in We Were Liars. Trying to be perfect causes so much heartache that could be avoided. People need to realize that perfection is boring, and being the best them is better. "Not one of these symbols of prosperity and taste has any use at all." (Lockhart 45). This quote from We Were Liars is very true. Basically what it is saying is this: in the end, all of these pretty things and expensive brands is not going to mean anything. "My Liars, my darlings. I killed them." (Lockhart 209). It is like here in the book. Cadence finds out her best friends are dead, and all the other things her family worried about means nothing. The reason that people are attached to materialistic things because they feel it makes them better and boosts their status. People want to 2 boost their status to reach some sort of perfection. If they would realize that other things matter more than perfection and materialistic things, then they would not seem so important anymore. Race is another thing that society tries to pull apart and perfect. "He was a stranger in our family even after all those years." (Lockhart 30). This quote shows that race is, in fact, an "issue" that people pick at. Usually it is people who think they are perfect. Anyone who thinks this is just plain wrong. Any person who believes they are better than someone because of their race is wrong. The Sinclair family tries so hard to be perfect that it hurts others. Meaning Gat. They push him away and make him feel alienated because they are worried of what other people might think. No one should be hurt at someone else's hand, just because they think they are superior to the other person. People try so hard to be perfect that it hurts them. This is one reason why I think Cadence is depressed. Cadence is surrounded by people who try so hard to be perfect, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Competency, The, And The Diversity Of The Student... Competency 2: The teacher is aware of the diversity of the student population and provides instruction that is appropriate for all students. In Chapter 3, "Focusing the Reader" of Deeper Reading, Kelly Gallagher provides pre–service teachers with a greater understanding of the importance of frontloading students with background knowledge of readings. She explains through an anecdote that prior knowledge leads students to be "better prepared to read more, to comprehend more, and to learn more" (26). Without prior knowledge, students are unable to understand and retain information as well because, as Gallagher explains, it "helps you attach meaning when reading the passage" (27). Teachers should gauge students' prior knowledge to the text before beginning with a unit to understand how to teach their students in a more meaningful manner. There are two key elements that Gallagher points out, through the reading of David Sousa, in how to frame information for students: "...be certain that today's curriculum contains connections to their past experiences, not just [the teacher's]... [And] how a person feels about a learning situation determines the amount of attention devoted to it" (28–29). These two points mean that: a teacher must connect students to personal experiences in order to bring to light universal issues in a text that they may not necessarily connect with on their own, and a teacher must be able to show purpose in the text that is "valid and worthwhile" (29) for the ... Program Evaluation Critique Essay Program Evaluation critique to: Trish Mckay from: steven wayock subject: Team read– program evaluation Critique date: [ 10/31/2012 ] cc: Professor Turner, Margo Jones, Trish McKay Steven Wayock's Independent program evaluation Critique Team Read's program evaluation completed by the independent evaluator Margo Jones took an overall look at Team Read based off of statistical analysis conducted in two different phases. These phases evaluated different scopes of Team Read, the readers the coaches and mentors. I Steven Wayock will critique this program evaluation based on the information at hand and will offer Team Read my insight to what this evaluation did properly and what this evaluation lacked based off my expertise. Team ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This question which is narrowed down by the results in a complicated statistical form does not address the fact that each comparison group that Margo chose was not labeled as deficient in the classroom or on their standardized test as the Team Read readers were when they were chosen for Team Read. These results that were detailed in Margo's evaluation lacked credibility as the sample comparison group was generally not the same as the Team Read program participants. The participant often took what is referred to as a similar test but differs in comparison which can cause validity issues around the board for the independent evaluator. The second research question the independent evaluator chose to ask was how does the program affect the reading coaches? This question was extremely general and could be answered in a number of different ways; Margo chose a questionnaire that was answered by Team Read coaches to determine whether or not they were impacted by the Team Read Program. The results were generally positive as Trish McKay had felt the same way about the results, as they were looked upon in a positive light. The questionnaire was administered towards the late stages of the school year as students were beginning to wind down all programs and head into summer. This questionnaire differed in response from one area to the next on certain questionnaire questions which directly gives the Team Read program information and data that can be interpreted to change policy ... What Is The Symbolism In The Fall Of The House Of Usher The dark and morbid tale of "The Fall of the House of Usher" has been interpreted in many different ways over time, the symbolism in the tale giving people the power to think up theories upon theories regarding it. However, there is one theory in particular that makes the most sense. That theory is the idea that the narrator is actually dreaming all of the events that occur at the House of Usher, and that the nightmare is simply a place where his darkest desires and thoughts can lurk in the back of his mind. At the very start of the tale, the narrator receives a letter from his ailing friend, Roderick, asking him to come visit in his time of need. This letter could be symbolic of his inner thoughts reminding him that, while unpleasant, they still exist and they tempt him to indulge them for a while. In the text, the narrator explicitly references the fact that he is happy, and Roderick is not. "The writer spoke of acute bodily illness –– of a mental disorder which oppressed him –– and of an earnest desire to see me, as his best, and indeed his only personal friend, with a view of attempting, by the cheerfulness of my society, some alleviation of his malady." (15, Poe) The external appearance of the house as the narrator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrator claims that the Usher family is "...in other words, that the entire family lay in the direct line of descent, and had always, with very trifling and very temporary variation, so lain." (21, Poe) This suggests that incest is a popular thing within the Usher family. Engaging in incestual relationships is perceived as one of the most taboo and unspeakable acts for humans to commit, so it only makes sense that the narrator would push something like that to the farthest and darkest corner of his mind. He pushes it so far away, it goes completely unnoticed by himself and almost by the reader as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Came the teasing voice followed by the all too familiar chuckle. Mackenzie took a deep breath to calm herself. She needed to suppress her rage in order to keep this facade successful. "Sorry about that. Did you need something?" "Sort of. It's kind of hard to explain on the phone. Do you mind if we meet in person? Say, tomorrow at the coffee shop at 1?" She shut the television screen off and went in her room to devise an improved and more foolproof plan. She came to a stop when she remembered her promise to Oliver and cursed under her breath. The conceited idiot was a dim witted fool and downright rejecting him was out of the question. Oliver Thompson was arrogant and narcissistic. He was also the rumored partner of Mackenzie before her escape. So in order to keep her image a little less distorted than people viewed it to be, she was forced to be in this relationship. But poor Oliver seemed to be just as blind as the public. Mackenzie had to admit, she got quite lucky in some aspects of the situation. She held this opinion because Oliver was nothing but a pretty face. He was a small town actor and met Mackenzie through a movie about 20 years ago. His connection with her then led him to have a larger recognition in Hollywood. But by the time "Mackenzie" got back, he was a full on hearthrob. Not that she found this appealing in any way. She had heard the actual Mackenzie Jones and Oliver were very much in love or something of the sort, yet he still didn't seem to realize that the woman he claimed to be so fond of was long gone and instead replaced by an imposter. "Dean Jacobs was on set today, and I must say, it was quite an awkward encounter. I mean, I don't ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Character Analysis Of Gary O's Seventh Grade By Gary Soto Even though Victor, a 7th grader from the story of "Seventh Grade" by Gary Soto, is trying to find his way socially, academically and personally, he is motivated to get his "girl" but in doing this he matures and develops. On the first day of seventh grade, Victor's personality is sheepish and shy. When he was in his math room for his second period, he sat in the back because math was at his weakest subject. On Victor's way to math class the narrator says "After English, Victor had math, his weakest subject. He sat in the back by the window, hoping that he would not be called on. Victor understood most of the problems, but some of the stuff looked like the teacher made it up as she went along. It was confusing, like the inside of a watch. "(Soto 4). This illustrates that Victor is not very good at math and does not want to try harder in math. It is important to notice that he has not been able to grasp the knowledge of this class and is not willing to catch up. Amir ran and did not even run to go get help, instead he ran out of fear and selfishness. Amir did not want to get beat up and part of him was concerned with the kite more than Hassan's well being at that moment. After the rape, Amir could not even look Hassan in the face much less in his eyes like a real man and was "grateful for the early–evening shadows that fell on Hassan's face"(Hosseini 78). • 36. Teacher Reflection Paper From my years in elementary school, middle school, and now high school, I have had many different teachers who have an impact on my life and my educational growth. There's one teacher though, who went above and beyond any other teacher I have had and that's why she had such a great impact on my learning ability. When I was in elementary school, I never thought much of reading books. I always saw books as things I did not want to dive into and read. Instead my head was thinking about either football, baseball or recess. My mom always encouraged me to read books. During the summer, I can remember my mom keeping my brothers and me inside for 30 minutes and making us read a chapter of a book before we could go back outside. It was the last day of summer going into my 4th grade year, and I was not ready for school to start. I was that typical kid who just wanted to spend my whole day hanging with my friends outside and not having to go to school. So I always dreaded the first day of school. I have gone the day before school started to check and see who my homeroom teacher was. The teacher I got was Mrs.Wellbaum ,and I had no idea who she was. I just really got excited because I had lots of my best friends in my class and I knew I would have a great year with all of them in that class. It was now the first day of school and I didn't know what to think of Mrs.Wellbaum. I didn't know who she was and I didn't even think I had ever seen her before. I got to my home room class ... In a red beanie chair beside Mrs. Barnes desk in the back of the room I sat with my knees pulled up to my chest and Charlotte's Web balanced on top. As I read I became a girl determined to save a baby pig, a spider with an incredible web, and a lonely pig. I traveled through the story as if it was my life I was reading about. Books take me on a journey to unimaginable worlds where I can be a damsel in distress, or a circus freak, I can ride a flying pig or stand beside Martin Luther King Jr. as he makes his speeches. Many times when we are given the choice to read or not we will pick the latter because we know that no matter what nothing the teacher can say will get us excited for the assignment. Teachers need to also realize that they are the reason for our animosity towards reading. When a teacher assigns a book they are usually very sullen about the idea of the assignment. By having this expression the teacher is setting the mood for the reading and discouraging us from reading. When I was sitting in my freshman English class my teacher got out her large teacher's addition of the textbook flipped to Romeo and Juliet and stated in a monotone voice for us to get out our books and read silently to ourselves. As a result the story of Romeo and Juliet agitates and bores me. The impression my teacher had for the story was impressed upon me an aversion to it. When giving a reading assignment teacher should be excited and enthusiastic about reading, so that to impress upon the us an impression of enjoyment for the reading. We should feel the same enthusiasm as Malcolm X did when he states, "The best thing I could do was get hold of a dictionary–to study, or to learn some words."(Malcolm X, 354) As we do when they pick up a book but, without time to read it is hard for us to enjoy it. • 38. Theme Of Literature In The Kite Runner Literature is a very important factor of Amir's life. He is not a boy that would people would label as a "normal" boy. If he were to live in modern America, he would be classified as a nerd. His love of literature would probably get him beat up and and harassed. In the setting of The Kite Runner, a major part of the reason that Amir is not black and blue with bruises is Hassan. The literature has an effect on Amir and his relationships. Amir's love of written art draws Hassan closer while pushing Baba away. Because he was born a certain way, Hassan was never permitted to learn to read or write. "But despite his illiteracy, or maybe because of it, Hassan was drawn to the mystery of words, seduced by a secret world forbidden to him." (28). Amir understood Hassan's interest because he too was enticed by literature. Without even knowing how much it would one day effect Hassan's life, Amir read to him. "So I read him unchallenging things, like the misadventures of Mullah Nasruddin and his donkey." (28). With Amir continuing to read to Hassan, Hassan gained knowledge. He gained affection for Amir, because Amir shared things with Hassan that no other had ever shared with him. "His favorite story, and mine, was 'Rostam and Sohrab,' the tale of the great warrior Rostam and his fleet–footed horse Rakhsh." (29). The boys grow to love the same stories. With the Bears obvious need for an edge rusher, all options need to be analyzed and considered. With his down year and off the field issues, he is falling on some draft boards after being viewed as a future top fice draft pick before this season. Below is a review of this polarizing draft prospect. Player: Arden Key Position: EDGE College: LSU Size: 6'6", 238 LBS Positives His sophomore year production was ridiculously good. For those not familiar, Key left the team the Spring of 2017 for personal reasons. Many thought he would be back, which he did, but the mystery of why he left has not been solved. Key has said himself that he has been 100% upfront with NFL teams on why he left the team, but it is still unknown to the public why he left. NFL GM's probably appreciate that he is being honest, but might not like the answer that he is giving still. We really won't know until draft night if it is a serious issue, because if he falls far enough, it must be a reason why. He had a big dip in production in 2017. Arden Key showed flashes of his 2016 season level of play but never did it consistently. A big reason why is because he ballooned up to 270 pounds, after playing at 238 pounds. This likely goes back to what happened when he left the team in the Spring. You noticed throughout the season that he was getting thinner, and his play improved with that. It is hard for a guy to match those insane numbers he had the previous season when you go through a body change like that, plus you are not involved in football activities during that time. Some say that he should have gone back to school one more year to show that he can play like his 2016 self, but he elected to declare for the NFL ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
