This document outlines a student activity to investigate the density of liquids. Students will work in small groups to create a colorful column in a glass container by carefully adding liquids of different densities like honey, dish soap, water, food coloring, vegetable oil, rubbing alcohol, and lamp oil. The objectives are for students to make observations and measurements to identify materials based on their properties and to plan an investigation to classify materials by their observable properties like density. Students will use skills like collaboration, critical thinking, communication, and interaction with the physical world.
