2. Why do people watch Horror films?
People go to watch horror films for many different reasons, one
of the main ones being that they want to experience the ‘thrill
factor’. Also, when you feel fear a built in animal instinct based
on the theory ‘fight or flight’ kicks in and some people like that.
Different horror films create different atmospheres within the
audience. For example if the film is a paranormal film then they
have gone to see the film because they like the fact that is builds
up suspense and mystery.
3. Age ranges of audiences
Stereotypically people think that the target audience for horror films
are males aged between 18-25 although this is not the case. Horror
films often contain violence which is why people think more males like
horror than females but no only do a lot of females like violence in a
film there are also a lot of other aspects of a horror film to enjoy.
Studies suggest that people aged between 15-19 will like horror more
as any one under 15 may find the film to scary and anyone over may
not be able to relate to the film and therefore may not feel the same
amount of fear.
The audience also depends on what is in the film and how it relates to
their interests.
4. How people watch Horror films
Everybody watches horror films in different ways. Most people
who go to the cinema to watch a horror go because they like the
big screen, loud sounds and the atmosphere that is created
within the entire audience. Other ways in which you can watch
horror is through DVDs, streaming and downloading.
There are many ways in which you can find out about a new
horror film such as trailers, posters, IMDb, reviews and through
word of mouth.
5. Ticket sales
Tickets sales of the ‘woman in black’ on the opening weekend
made $20 million in the US. It put it in second place to a film
called ‘Chronicle’ which only earned $1 million more than it.
This shows just how big the industry of horror is and how
demanded for it is by the paying public.
