7. INTRODUCTION
Deep Work is a term coined by author and professor Cal
Newport, which refers to the ability to focus without distraction
on a cognitively demanding task. It's the kind of work that
requires sustained attention, creativity, and critical thinking
According to Cal Newport, in the new economy, large companies
can quickly conquer global markets using digital tools and
technology, and by producing new products and services, they
can experience greater growth and development. Therefore, to
survive in this economy, companies must always be innovating
and improving their processes.
7
8. there are three categories of people who are
important in the new economy:
High-Skilled Workers: These workers are often well-educated, tech-
savvy, and able to adapt quickly to new technologies and processes.
Superstars: These are individuals who have achieved exceptional
success in their fields
Owners: These are the owners and investors who have the capital and
resources to fund new ventures and support innovation.

11. How to become a winner in the new economy
Develop Rare and Valuable Skills: In the new economy, individuals who
possess rare and valuable skills that are in high demand will be highly sought after
Leverage Technology: Technology is a key driver of the new economy, and
individuals who are able to leverage technology to their advantage will be more
successful. This includes using digital tools and platforms
Cultivate a Strong Network: In the new economy, success often depends on
who you know as much as what you know
Focus on Deep Work : The ability to quickly master hard things , and The
ability to produce at an elite level, in terms of both quality and speed.
The two core abilities just described depend on your ability to perform deep work.
11
12. What separates experts (in many different fields) from everyone else is:
Deliberate practice
Deep Work Helps You Quickly Learn Hard Things:

13. Deep Work Helps You Produce at an Elite Level
Attention Residue: when you switch from Task A another Task B, your Attention
remains stuck thinking about the original task.
This residue gets especially thick if your work on Task A was unbounded and of low
intensity before you switched, but even if you finish Task A before moving on, your
attention remains divided for a while.
(Research Paper on effect of multitasking: titled, intriguingly, "Why Is It So Hard to Do My
Work?, by Sophie Leroy, a business professor at the University of Minnesota)
High-Quality Work Produced = (Time Spent) x (Intensity of Focus)

16. In a business setting, without clear feedback on the impact of various
behaviors to the bottom line, we will tend toward behaviors that
are easiest in the moment.

17. In the absence clear indicators of what it means to be productive
and of clear indicators of what it means to be productive and
valuable in their jobs, many knowledge workers turn back
toward an industrial indicator of productivity:
doing lots of stuff in a visible manner.

● 4 Discipline
● Finish with Shutdown ritual
Work Deeply
21
22. Monastic : Eliminate or reduce surface commitments. Focusing on
a task in the best way. For those who have an important goal
Bimodal : Detailed planning of deep work and shallow work . at
least one day of deep work per week . for people whose
commitments require shallow work.
Rhythmic : Do deep work every day. For those who have
competitive commitments. (Urgency can motivate)
Journalistic : At any time you may go into deep work. For people
who are confident in their information.

23. ● Discipline #1: Focus On the Wildly Important
● Discipline #2: Act on the Lead Measures
● Discipline #3: Keep a Compelling Scoreboard
● Discipline #4: Create a Cadence of Accountability
4 Discipline
23
24. Execution should be aimed at a small number of "wildly important goals"
Discipline 1: Focus On the Wildly Important
24
25. Lag measures: Describe the thing you're ultimately trying to improve.
For example: customer satisfaction score.
Lead Measures: That will drive success on the lag measures.
For ex. It might be the number of customer who receive free samples. As you
increase this no. your lag measure improve as well.
Discipline 2: Act on the Lead Measures
25
27. ● Don't take breaks from Distraction, Instead take
Breaks from focus
● Law of Vital Few 80/20: In many settings 80 percent
of a given effort is due to just 20 percent of the
possible causes.
Rule #2: Embrace Boredom
27
31. ● Autopilot
● Schedule every minute of your day
● Quantify the Depth of Every Activity
● Finish your work at time
Drain the Shallows
31
32. “let your soul be all intent on whatever it is that is established
in your mind as a dominant, wholly absorbing idea.“
"Man of genius themselves were great only by bringing all
their power to bear on the point on which they had decided to
show their full measure."
(Prof. Sertillanges, "The Intellectual Life")
