• Career – time devoted for working out of a purposeful life pattern through the
work undertaken by an individual.
• Work – the activity that produces something of value for oneself or others.
• Vocation – the work that an individual does because of a calling.
• Profession – a career that requires specialized training & academic
preparation.
• Occupation – a group of similar positions found in different industries or
organizations.
• Position – a group of task performed by an individual in an organization.
• Job – a paid position held by one or more individuals requiring some related
attributes
4. WHAT IS CAREER PLANNING?
• Planning a career can be defined as choosing life’s important paths. A
lifelong process that includes choosing an occupation, getting job,
growing in our job, possibly changing careers, & eventually retiring.
• Career planning encompasses establishing career objectives &
determining appropriate educational & developmental programs to
enhance & enrich the knowledge, skills & attitudes required to achieve
short or long term career objectives.
• Careful planning is needed when it comes to how you would earn a living.

• career planning is not just making plans to obtain your perfect job or
career, but to help you make the many adjustments there will be along the
way as you learn about you and the world of teaching.
• Reason most individuals do not turn their dreams into reality is because
they do not take these dreams & make them goals. Goal is a dream with a
deadline. Successful people set goals. Goal setting a process & learned
skill with many parts to it. Short term goals can be done in your head but
long term goals should be written, evaluated monitored frequently and
prayed to God more.
