3. In location one, the lighting was an issue. The lighting is natural as the sun is
setting and it is still partially light. As the lighting is natural, it is hard to get the
correct lighting with the correct shot type, speed and angle before the light is
too dark. This meant I had to go to the location slightly earlier to set up the
camera and also experiment with the camera speed and focus before filming
with the desired lighting. The light from the sun goes quickly which meant I
had to get the shot perfect for my establishing shot for the start of the film. This
proved to be more difficult than first thought as the location had uneven
ground which made it harder to have a smooth panning shot at the same
speed. The shot had to be in the dark as most of the footage is shot in the
dark if it was in day light the footage wouldn’t have continuity. It would also
make the film look unprofessional. The use of natural lighting made the filming
eerie as it hints to the narrative that anyone can be stalked. The background
noise was an issue during the filming as well as passers-by. There were people
walking past whilst I was filming which meant the shot had to be redone
numerous times as the shot was filmed on top of a hill in a local park. This
made the filming time longer and the light got dimmer. There was noise from
the road which means that the shot will have to be muted during editing as
well as a soundtrack over the top to add an eerie feel to the film.

5. I experimented with various lighting in this location as when I filmed it has started
to get dark. The lighting I used first was warm lighting from the hallway light. I
decided that this lighting was too warm which represents friendly and happiness
which is the opposite of what I want to portray in the footage. I changed the
lighting to a flash white light from my IPhone camera. This helped portray the shot
in different ways as the lighting being harsh and bright could make the audience
think of interrogation. This makes the audience relate the lighting to crime which
is part of the thriller genre. I also experimented with the focus and depth of field
within the shots. The various focus types makes the audience feel and think
certain ways for example the blurred focus to a sharp focus makes the audience
focus on the specific character in shot. The sharp focus was on the main
character which hints to the narrative. By the camera focusing on the character
first then the background makes the audience see the character and then
focuses on the importance of the background/setting. I used soft focus on the
camera to show that the main character is confused and his thoughts are
distorted. I trialled numerous angles of the shot as the angle makes a clear
difference in the shot. A high angled shot of the collage of the girl portrays to the
audience that she is vulnerable which makes the audience feel as though she is
in danger. This adds to the narrative of the film as it gives hints to the audience.

7. The location had many issues. The lighting was a big issue as it is hard to control
natural lighting. The light was too bright at some point when filming as it is a
thriller film. The light needed to be dark with some light which proved difficult to
film. This meant I had to refilm so parts of the film at a darker point of the night.
There were also numerous people walking their dogs in the evening so I had to
stop filming sometimes. This made the filming process longer which was an
issue. I experimented with various shot during the filming outside as this made it
easier to choose the correct shot for the editing of the footage. I had to
change the ending of the film as the letter box idea I was using for the ending
couldn’t happen as the letter box had a draught excluder. This made me
unable to film eyes looking through the letter box as you wouldn’t be able to
see them. Another issue was organising the actors to be available on the same
day was a challenge as events crop up which hinders filming on that day.
