GREENoneTEC case analysis
Lund University GREENoneTEC case LГ©a Couture Elisabeth Lussier–Arpin Vassily Coste Guilhem Arnaud Work presented to: Anna Thomasson
Ola Mattisson BUSINESS POLICY–FEKH11 Wednesday, March 18th 2015 To be able to help GREENoneTEC management to develop the company,
we need to analyze the product and company first. The company is part of the solar industry and went from a one–man business into one of the
industry leaders in manufacturing flat plate solar thermal collectors for water heating. In 2003, Kioto became GREENoneTEC's sister company by
manufacturing photovoltaics modules. The plan was to exploit all opportunities of the market. GREENoneTEC vision is that ''the sun is the most

Finally, we can point out another main challenge for GREENoneTEC that is the rise of raw material costs which have extremely increased since
1995 (the price of copper had increased by more than 150 percent in 16 years for example). Thus our company has to deal with this increase by
looking for opportunities to reduce the costs of production. It can play on economic scale, searching new suppliers less expensive or even changing
the conception of its products with different raw materials. We can notice that GREENoneTEC is facing challenges related to the Asian competition, to
the search of new customers and to the lowering of its costs of production. The company needs to confront these challenges to stand out from the other
companies on the solar market and to ensure its permanence. Solar industry The solar industry is divided in three main markets: the European solar
thermal market, the Chinese market and the market in other world regions. The industry is segmented in two main types of solar thermal collectors,
which are evacuated tube collectors (80 per cent on average of the worldwide newly installed capacity in 2010) and flat plate collectors (20 per cent on
average). This industry is characteristic of technology intensive industries with their central innovation: solar thermal water heating which radically
reduces costs. They can also count on experimented installers. Each customer adopt and have

Energy : The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Wind Energy
In addition to being a virtually inexhaustible renewable resource, wind energy has the advantage of being modular; that is a wind farm's size can be
adjusted by simply adjusting the number of turbines on the farm. A major disadvantage of wind is that the amount of energy available from the
generator at any given time is dependent on the intensity of the wind resource at the time which is very difficult to predict. This intermittency of
intensity reduces the wind generator's value both at the operational level and also at the system capacity planning level where the system planner needs
information about how much energy they can depend on from a generator at a future planning date, i.e., when the wind intensity cannot be perfectly
predicted. Another disadvantage of wind energy is that good wind sites tend to be located far from main load centers and transmission lines. Concerns
have also been raised about the death of birds and bats flying into wind turbines, the possibility of turbines causing radar interference, and potential
adverse effects of the shadow flicker5 on people living in close proximity.
According to the estimates, onshore utility scale wind power plants have the lowest capital cost among the renewables at $2,213/kW. In addition, wind
has a lower capital cost than nuclear and pulverized coal power plants. Offshore wind power plants, on the other hand, have an estimated capital cost
that is higher than all other generating technologies except municipal solid

Water is pumped into solar panels where it is directly heated by the sun and then pumped into storage tanks where it is stored. Direct systems are
very effective but have a shorter life span when compared to indirect systems. The reason being is that, the water chemicals erode the pipes and the
panels over time and hence have to be maintained regularly. Water inside the panels can freeze in colder weather conditions which may result in
damaging the system (Choosing a solar geyser, 2010). Figure 1–Direct System
Advantages of a Direct System
Service water used directly from collector loop
No heat exchanger – more efficient heat transfer to storage
Circulation pump needs only to overcome frictional losses.
Disadvantages of a Direct System
It is only convenient to use them in areas where it rarely freezes and the quality of water must be really good.
Indirect systems use the same procedure but the geysers in this system have copper pipes that are used as the heating coil. Water is separated from the
water inside the tank by copper pipes in this system. An antifreeze fluid circulates through the solar panels (Choosing a solar geyser, 2010). The fluid
flows through the collector and then through the copper pipes inside the storage tank. The water is then indirectly heated. The indirect systems have a
longer life span when compared to direct systems as there is

The results of this simulation are displayed in Fig. 4, where injected and extracted heat per length ((q) М‡/L) pulses were simulated for 300 months. A
charging time of 19 months is needed to charge the ground by thermal solar energy in order to achieve the desired design temperature. In the figure,
this 19–month period begins in June and ends in January. When the system is actively supplying thermalenergy to the building, the temperature rises in
the summer months to a peak of about 80 C and falls in the winter months to a low of about 67 C. The yearly average is about 71.5 C.

Also, some savings are achieved by using more efficient cooling technology to reduce grid purchases. The retrofit therefore reduces the total energy
purchased from the grid, but it also modifies the hourly electrical demand profile. Both pieces of information are required to compute the savings,
because it is assumed that the grid pricing is demand–sensitive, such that the price per kWh each month is a function of the load factor for that month.
Load factor is defined on a monthly basis as the ratio of the average power consumption for the month divided by the peak hourly power consumption.
The load factor measures the consistency of the demand over time, with high load factors indicating a more consistent demand that is less costly for
the utility to provide. The monthly per kWh grid price is therefore inversely related to load factor.
To determine how the building retrofit would modify the grid electrical demand, the original aggregate hourly demand is split, as was previously
described, into heating, hot water, cooling, and baseline plug load profiles. The cooling profile is scaled by 80% to estimate the electrical load for the

A Report On Solar Thermal Energy
Solar Thermal Energy
Introduction
Solar thermal technology uses the sun's energy, instead of fossil fuels, to get cheap, environmentally friendly thermal energy. This energy is employed
to heat water or different fluids, and can also power solar cooling systems. Solar thermal systems vary from solar PV systems that generate electricity
instead of heat.
World Solar Market
The world has giant solar energy resources that haven 't been greatly used so far. Alternative energy presently accounts for a tiny share of world
primary energy consumption, however its use is projected to extend powerfully over the outlook amount to 2030.
The highest solar resource potential per unit surface area is within the Red Sea area. Australia conjointly has higher incident alternative energy per unit
area than the other continent within the world. However, the distribution of solar energy use amongst countries reflects government policy settings that
encourage its use, rather than resource availability.
Australia receives a mean of 58 million PJ of radiation per annum, close to 10,000 times larger than its total energy consumption of 5772 PJ in
2007–08. In theory, then, if only 0.1 per cent of the incoming radiation may be regenerate into usable energy at an efficiency of 10%, all of
Australia's energy desires may be provided by solar power. Similarly, the energy falling on a solar Darwin, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Solar Power
ABSTRACT
Solar power has a vast potential. The industry is to see large growth in the upcoming future. However, there are technical and cost limitations which
hinder solar power's ability to become a more influential global electricity source. Despite these limitations, solar power is utilized by many. From
homes in the Unites States to developing countries, solar power is making lives and the world a better place. Governments must see the potential of
solar power and push their country's energy needs away from fossil fuels and towards renewable sources, such as solar power.

FINDINGS
The largest obstacle solar power has to overcome is cost. Solar power has high startup costs. Stated in The Future of Solar Energy, "Currently, the
estimated installed cost per peak watt for a residential PV system is approximately 80% greater than that for a utility–scale plant, with costs for a
typical commercial–scale installation falling somewhere in between." These cost estimates often "include costs for inverters, racking and installation
hardware, design and installation labor, and marketing, as well as various regulatory and п¬Ѓnancing costs" (The Future of Solar Energy). Many do not
want to pay for the upfront costs of instillation of solar energy devices when an alternative energy supplier is already in place. In order to
successfully reduce our carbon emissions, governments must become involved. Federal money must be allotted to the research and development of
solar power for it to become a viable energy source. In doing so solar power will become less privatized and potentially more affordable. There has
been recent growth in the solar energy due to "a 50%–70% drop in reported PV prices (without federal subsidies) per installed peak watt", and a
"current federal tax subsidy for solar generation: a 30% investment tax credit (ITC)" (The Future of Solar Energy). The reduction of PV prices and a
tax credit is a positive aspect for solar power, but the prices are still too high for the masses. The value of a renewable energy source is frequently lost

Pros And Cons Of Residential Solar Power
This project is to identify the feasibility of residential solar power applications for the end–user, and any pros/cons and cost analysis of any such
undertaking. We will compile existing data to identify how much grid electricity the average US household uses, how much they pay per kilowatthour
(kWh), and compare it to the cost of installing solar power system. Taking into consideration environmental effects, government incentives, and pure
electricity cost savings over time, we will demonstrate that every American would benefit by moving from grid electricity to solar power, even if
opting for a partial–grid or grid tie–in solar system.

Solar power is not consistent or reliable enough to be the only option for power. This technology relies totally on the sun so certain days we will
be able to produce more power than others and at night we might not be able to produce any. Which is why we will not be able to completely sever
the tie to conventional power generation. There has to be a method available to generate enough power to meet demand without available sunlight.
Although as technology progresses we may soon be able to generate power from solar sources 24 hours a day. Modern solar power towers are being
designed to store excess heat transfer medium underground during the day as its heated and recycling it at night to continue to generate steam for
power production (Mills, 2004). But even with this ability we will not be able to go solely to solar power but it can still supplement existing power
and drastically reduce the country's carbon

Improving Solar energy in the United States
Audience: Home owners
Executive Summary:
Solar energy has been in existence for a longer than any of us will imagine. Of course the sun is the oldest and most basic source of energy. Solar
technology has been in existence since the 7th century B.C. Solar energy is a clean and renewable energy that does not have most of the problems
fossil fuels have. There are three types of solar technology that can be utilized in both our homes and businesses. The three types of solar energy are
solar thermal and solar electric which can also be called photovoltaic (PV) and passive solar energy. Solar energy is developing and could be used as
an alternative for fossil fuel which emits dangerous gasses into the atmosphere. I will be discussing about the benefits, problems and how solar energy
can be improved in the United States.
Introduction:
The sun has been around since the beginning of time and it is one of the most efficient ways of generating electric power. Passive solar energy is
simply the heating of home and buildings through architectural designs. Solar thermal energy is where the sun rays are used to heat our homes and
water. It uses solar thermal collectors to collect heat energy and disperse it through our heating and plumbing system. This type of solar energy is very
cheap and can be afforded by home owners. Solar photovoltaic uses the sun rays to electricity

Al–Sulaiman et.al [Exergy modeling of a new solar driven trigeneration system] have used exergy modeling in order to evaluate the exergetic
performance of a novel–trigeneration system utilizing parabolic trough solar collector (PTSC).
Solar PDCs concentrate solar radiation to a single focal point by means of one or more parabolic dishes. PDCs have concentration ratios in the range
of 600–2000. As a result, they are rather efficient at thermal energy absorption and power conversion processes. Thus, PDC is selected to be the prime
mover for the integrated system in this study.
Absorption chillers can make use of renewable energy resources, such as solar, geothermal and biomass, in order to generate cooling. The other
benefits of absorption refrigeration systems are that they do not cause ozone layer retrenchment, they make use of natural refrigerants possibly having
less CO2 emissions and they are independent of electric grids. The most common commercially suitable absorption refrigeration systems are single and
double effect systems. In double effect absorption refrigeration systems, a secondary fluid (absorbent) is used to circulate and to absorb the primary
fluid (refrigerant). The success of the absorption relies on the selection of an appropriate combination of absorbent and refrigerant. The most
widespread absorbent and refrigerant combinations in absorption refrigeration systems have

Developments and Possiblilities of Solar Power
Solar power has been around for many years. The very first silicon based photovoltaic was invented by Bell Labs back in 1954. At this time the
cost per watt was high at $285 and in 2009 it dropped to a mere $3.00 per watt (Solar Tech USA, 2014). Solar energy dates back as far as the 2nd
century with the Greeks and Romans starting fires through broken glass. Indirect benefits from solar have been used way back to even photosynthesis
(Bengtson, 2012). Passive solar energy was used to heat building by using the design to capture the sun for heating and lighting. Moving into the 20th
century major changes have accrued and there is now concentrating solar power technologies for centralized solar thermal plants (Bengtson, 2012).
The public believes that solar is not yet ready to take charge and become a major source of power, yet some experts disagree. Solar power in the
21st century has magnified many possibilities for solar use. Photovoltaic has created a large economic benefit by reducing the cost of other
resources as well as its own for example solar heated water heaters have cut the cost of gas and electricity (Bengtson, 2012). Germany is a great
example of how solar is in huge demand and working well to serve the consumers. Germany has 5 times the solar power the United States is
currently using although Germany does not get a great deal of sun (Brad Plumer, 2013). Germany is the world leader in solar power and with the use

Renewable Energy Vs. Solar Thermal Power Plants
2.1.Introduction The limited resources of non–renewable energy and the fluctuation of fuel price have forced the world to find clean and economical
natural energy resources by means of renewable energy. Solar energy is a sustainable alternative option that can be utilized in various ways and can be
used in many applications. The world has experienced enormous enlargement in energy and fuel consumption with lacking of energy resources.
Moreover, the finite fossil fuel resource could not cope up with the increasing energy demand. According to the World Health Organization, air
pollution is now the world's largest single environmental health risk. Lately, the statistics have shown that air pollution is responsible for approximately
two million deaths a year [1].
Conventional power plants are the major source of air pollutions due to toxic emissions such as carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide. Alternative power
plants that work on renewable resources have been dedicated for this purpose. Different types of renewable energy and solar thermal power plants will
be presented in this chapter.
2.2.Renewable Energy Recently, the constraints of reducing fuel consumption and pollution have improved the efforts toward renewable energies.
Renewable energy resources such as sunlight, wind and water are eventually unlimited and are much more eco–friendly than fossil fuel. It can be used
directly as solar ovens and geothermal heating, or indirectly by creating another form of energy

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Renewable Energy
It is easy to see the environmental and economic advantages of using the sustainable sources of energy but we must also consider all the disadvantages.
One disadvantage of the renewable energy is that it's difficult to generate the same amount of electricity that are as large as those produced by
traditional sources of energy, such as fossil fuel and coal powder plants generators. This may means that either we need to reduce the amount of energy
we use or we need to set up more such facilities to balance with the world's growing demand.
An other disadvantage of renewable energy is the reliability of supply. Renewable energy generally relies upon the weather for its sources of power.
Hydro–generators need a source of falling water or rain. Wind turbines rely on wind to turn the blades and solar panels need clear sky and sunshine.
When weather doesn't provide these kinds of climate conditions, it's impossible for renewable energy sources make energy from them. Government of
many countries have adopted comprehensive policy frameworks at national level to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

They concluded that this lack of knowledge points to a gap in information about solar energy. Their study also found that there is a nuanced relationship
between environmental concern and the use of solar energy, which means that people have very complicated and conflicting attitudes towards
gathering and processing data that is related to alternative energy. This affects their willingness to learn about alternative energy sources. A study done
by D. Fuchs and M. Arentsen (2002) supports the findings of the Rai–Beck study as they found that a lack of knowledge of electricity supply options
and the negative consequences that come with electricity use is a barrier to the consumption of renewable energy sources, such as solar energy.

Solar Energy Advantages
Solar energy is radiant light and heat from the Sun that is harnessed using a range of ever–evolving technologies such as solar heating, photovoltaics,
solar thermal energy, solar architecture, molten salt power plants and artificial photosynthesis. It is an important source of renewable energy and its
technologies are broadly characterized as either passive solar or active solar depending on how they capture and distribute solar energy or convert it into
solar power. Active solar techniques include the use of photovoltaic systems, concentrated solar power and solar water heating to harness the energy.
Passive solar techniques include orienting a building to the Sun, selecting materials with favorable thermal mass or light–dispersing properties, and
designing spaces that naturally circulate air. The large magnitude of solar energy available makes it a highly appealing source of electricity. The United
Nations Development Programme in its 2000 World Energy Assessment found that the annual potential of solar energy was 1,575–49,837 exajoules .
This is several times larger than the total world energy consumption, which was 559.8 EJ in 2012. In 2011, the International Energy Agency said that
"the development of affordable, inexhaustible and clean solar energy technologies will have huge longer–term benefits. It will increase countries'
energy security through reliance on an indigenous, inexhaustible and mostly import–independent resource, enhance sustainability, reduce

Sustainable living is a lifestyle that attempts to reduce an individual 's or society 's use of the earth 's natural resources and his/her own resources.
Practitioners of sustainable living often attempt to reduce their "carbon footprint" by altering methods of transportation, energy consumption and diet.
Proponents of sustainable living aim to conduct their lives in ways that are consistent with sustainability, in natural balance and respectful of humanity

As a result of these industrial farming conditions, today's mounting environmental stresses are further exacerbated. These stresses include: declining
water tables, chemical leaching, chemical runoff, soil erosion, land degradation, loss in biodiversity, and other ecological concerns.
A more sustainable means of acquiring food is to purchase locally and seasonally. Buying food from local farmers reduces carbon offsets, caused by
long–distance food transport, and stimulates the local economy. Local, small–scale farming operations also typically utilize more sustainable methods
of agriculture than conventional industrial farming systems such as decreased tillage, nutrient cycling, fostered biodiversity and reduced chemical
pesticide and fertilizer applications. Adapting a more regional, seasonally based diet is more sustainable as it entails purchasing less energy and
resource demanding products that naturally grow within a local area and require no long–distance transport. These vegetables and fruits are also grown
and harvested within their suitable growing season. Thus, seasonal food farming does not require energy intensive greenhouse production, extensive
irrigation, plastic packaging and long–distance transport from importing non–regional foods, and other environmental stressors. Local, seasonal
produce is typically fresher, unprocessed and argued to be more nutritious. Local produce also contains less to no chemical

A Research Study On Water Heating
Water heating accounts for (20–30%) share out of total residential electricity consumption in urban areas. Economical and financial factors are the most
important barriers followed by market availability for penetration of solar water heater [5]. A study has been conducted to find out determining factors
behind adoption of various solar energy technologies: solar photovoltaic and solar thermal options, collecting data from 296 respondents from
Chennai. It has been found that scarcity for electricity and carbon free operation are two most dominating motivating factors. A single point estimation
of economic viability showed that it is feasible for Chennai [6]. The life cycle cost and payback period assessment has been done taking three cities in

Solar thermal power generation technologies
Solar Thermal Power systems, also known as Concentrating Solar Power systems, use concentrated solar radiation as a high temperature energy source
to produce electricity using thermal route. Since the average operating temperature of stationary non–concentrating collectors is low (max up to
1200C) as compared to the desirable input temperatures of heat engines (above 3000C), the concentrating collectors are used for such applications.
These technologies are appropriate for applications where direct solar radiation is high. The mechanism of conversion of solar to electricity is
fundamentally similar to the traditional thermal power plants except use of solar energy as source of heat.
In the basic process of conversion of solar into heat energy, an incident solar irradiance is collected and concentrated by concentrating solar collectors
or mirrors, and generated heat is used to heat the thermic fluids such as heat transfer oils, air or water/steam, depending on the plant design, acts as
heat carrier and/or as storage media. The hot thermic fluid is used to generated steam or hot gases, which are then used to operate a heat engine. In
these systems, the efficiency of the collector reduces marginally as its operating

The Pros And Cons Of Solar Energy
Did you know that the sun is one of the most key sources of renewable energy today? Solar Energy could be the answer to the world's problems if
we use it right. Solar energy is a very clean renewable source of energy, that could stop global warming. Solar energy is created from the sun's light
and heat. It has many positive aspects of usage. One of the most positive aspect of solar energy is how clean it is, it's one hundred times better than
using fossil fuels. Solar can be used in many different shapes, ways and forms. There are two main ways of converting the sun into energy. The first
method works through the use of photovoltaics, which creates electricity directly from sunlight through a photovoltaic cell. The second main source
of solar power is called Solar Thermal Technology. In this process, the heat from the sun's rays are captured, harnessed, and then used to conduct
energy for a selected source. The sun heats and lights a solar panel and it converts it to DC current, then the inverter converts the DC energy to AC
and then you have electricity for your home; the extra electricity gets credited on the grid. A lot of people have no idea how much amazing things
solar can do. Solar can power cars, run a steam engine, power cities etc. A lot of ignorant people in this world who only care about money and
don't care about the future of our earth are totally oblivious to what solar can do. I picked this as my project to try and spread awareness on how
vital solar energy really is to us. I also don't think people understand how clean solar energy is, it doesn't emit any greenhouse gases when producing
thermal energy and electricity. The heat that comes from solar and is turned into electricity and hot water is called Thermal Energy. Our Sun's rays

Solar Energy Advantages And Disadvantages
Solar energy can be use today in a variety of ways. Probably because today, more and more people are understanding the advantages of solar energy
as our solar technology increases and the cost of fossil fuels rises. Solar energy systems today can now used to power homes, cars, appliances in a
ways of like Photovoltaic panels, Heating water, Lighting etc. Solar Photovoltaic panels The most common form of solar energy used today are
photovoltaic solar panels, which absorb the sun's light to create electricity. These solar panels can be attached to homes as a primary or secondary
source of electric power. They can also be used for small appliances and machines which only need small amounts of electricity for use. Large scale
photovoltaic panel plants have also been constructed to provide power to many homes. Solar cels convert sunlight directly into electricity. Solar
cells are often used to power calculators and watches. They are made of semiconducting materials similar to those used in computer chips. When
sunlight is absorbed by these materials, the solar energy knocks electrons loose from their atoms, allows the electrons to flow through the material
to produce electricity. This process of converting light (photons) to electricity (voltage) is called the photovoltaic(PV)effect. Solar cells are
typically combined into modules that hold about 40 cells; a number of these modules are mounted in PV arrays that can measure up to several
meters on a side. These flat plate PV arrays can be mounted at a fixed angle facing south, or they can be mounted on a tracking device that follows
the sun, allowing them to capture the most sunlight over the course of a day. Several connected PV arrays can provide enough power for a
household; for large electric utility or industrial applications, hundreds of arrays can be interconnected to form a single, large PV system. Solar
lighting One of the easiest way to improve home efficiency is to add outdoor solar lighting to your property. Unlike traditional exterior lights, solar
lighting requires no complicated setup as the lights are wireless and harness sunlight during the day to circumvent the need for grid–supplied electricity
at night. Though solar lights are not yet as

The Future Of Australia 's Renewable Energy Industry...
The path to renewables in Australia in recent times has been met with a somewhat contentious debate. In a time where "No challenge poses a greater
threat to our future than a changing climate."(Barack Obama, August 3, 2015) the plight of Renewables is of more importance than ever in our history
as a pillar on to which our highly carbon emitting society must rest, if we ever seek to reduce the impact on our climate both government and
individuals must seek out and adhere to serious carbon abatement strategies. The idea of previous successful government involvement in the renewable
energy industry through regulation and initiatives may elude the everyday modern Australian, marred with controversial schemes, which in hind sight
were rolled out to fast without sufficient regulations has seen relatively recent schemes reduced or even thrown out. However, it is best to remind
ourselves that some of Australia's rite of passage as a nation were through Renewable energy projects. Examples of this such as the Snowy Hydro
Scheme which at the time was named as one of the civil engineering wonders of the modern world and the White Cliff Solar Power Station which can
be seen as a world first solar energy provider.

In brewing industry, 80% of overall final energy consumption is used in the form of thermal energy where solar thermal can be used for brewing
processes as below: steam generation, malting process, stopping germination of grains, air cooling, conservation with hot air, power supplying of
washing machines, wither and kiln processes. Malting plants and breweries consume heat for their thermally driven processes at temperature level
ranges between 25В°C to 120В°C. It seems feasible to supply heat at this temperature level which is not higher than the actual amount required but in
reality the it is often decided by the consumer which needs the highest temperature. The integration of solar renewable energy system is necessary to
reduce the exergy losses and CO2 emissions [17,21,24,25].
To utilize the organic matter from brewing residues, optimized heat recovery can supply its thermalenergy demand over resources. Theoretically, the
full energy potential is not utilized so the pathway is the conventional means of energy. However, the conversion of heat from energy gained from
renewable energy resources can ensure environment friendly beer production process for future. To increase the overall energy efficiency, the
integration of solar heat energy gained from solar thermal collector technologies can be considered as a prospective alternative to fulfill the demands of
typical low temperature process heat.

Solar Energy And Solar Power
Introduction
Solar energy is defined as the transformation of the sun's rays into useful forms of energy, for instance, electricity and heat. The capacity of solar
radiation a place receives depends on a variety of factors such as geographic location, time of day, season, and local weather. According to Knier (n.d.)
photo voltaic and concentrating solar power cells are the two forms of sources to produce electricity. Photo voltaic cells generate electricity directly
using solar cells and concentrated solar power cells generate electricity using steam. According to The World Bank– for the past three years, India has
taken a enormous step in forwarding and in implementing the green growth agenda by producing 2,000 MW of solar power at the world's cheap tariff.
Solar power is likely to reduce India's usage of imports of diesel and coal. A number of measurements are probably taking to generate 20,000 MW of
solar power in future by 2022. The Solar industry is likely to create 200–400 jobs in the industries like research, development and installation, for every
10 MW of solar power generated. Hence, the government of India had taken enormous steps to increase the productivity of the solar energy. This
research report will discuss the effectiveness and the limitations of solar power in India

Solar thermal energy is the best source of energy because it uses the suns energy instead of fossil fuels. As The Union of Concerned Scientists state
in the article "how solar energy works", "solar energy is a vast and inexhaustible resource. Once the system is in place it converts the rays into
useful energy and will never have ups and downs of energy markets" (p1). Solar energy is inexhaustible because it does not use or give off fuels. It
is fuel free. Instead it uses the light from the suns rays and converts it into heat. Since it doesn't use fuels but instead the suns energy it is a reliable
source. There will always be light. Further more National geographic in their article "solar energy" say that "using solar active technologies is used
to harness energy by mechanical devices and electrical devices to convert rays into energy"(1). Mechanical devices and electrical devices harness
energy. Since the energy is being harnessed through electricity it is not using fuels nor giving off fuels while converting rays into energy such as heat.

that they have all been called pandemics. According to Merriam–Webster.com, apandemic occurs over a wide geographic distribution and affects "an
exceptionally high proportion of the population." Joel B. Stronberg declares that we are currently facing another pandemic. This pandemic is the
combination of the consequences of burning fossil fuels. The two major problems from burning fossil fuels are global warming and decreasing oil ...

The potential of solar energy is tremendous. We should take advantage of this opportunity and make solar energy usage more common!
Since solar radiation produces so much energy, why aren't we using a lot more of it? Solar energy does have some disadvantages. One of the
major problems with solar energy is the intermittent speed at which it arrives at the Earth's surface. This causes problems with consistency when
heating or lighting. Another drawback to solar energy is that it requires great space to be gathered in effective quantities. This makes it difficult to
place the solar panels in areas where space is costly, valuable, or unavailable. A final reason why we are not using solar energy is because it is quite
costly. According to JC Solar Homes, it would cost a homeowner roughly one hundred to two hundred thousand dollars to convert his or her home to
solar energy. Obviously, this is not realistic or reasonable for most people; therefore, solar energy is often overlooked as a serious possibility for
solving our approaching energy pandemic.
There are different types of commonly used solar energy conversions. Photovoltaic energy is commonly called solar cell energy. PV is a
non–mechanical device that converts sunlight into electricity. Solar thermal heat is being used in swimming pools, space heating and to heat water for
domesticated uses. Solar thermal power plants use sunlight to heat a liquid which turns into steam. The

The Rapid Depletion Of Conventional Energy Sources And...
Abstract
The rapid depletion of conventional energy sources and scarcity of fossil fuels are the major energy concerns. The renewable energy such as solar
powered energy can be harnessed by using solar flat plate collector. A solar flat plate collector collects heat by absorbing heat from solar radiation.
The performance of solar flat plate collector mainly depends upon the characteristics of working fluid. Conventional solar flat plate collector uses water
as heat transfer fluid but it gives lower thermal efficiency. Nanofluids have superior thermal and optical properties that can be used to increase heat
transfer rate. So our aim is to design and develop solar flat plate collector using Nanofluid as heat transfer fluid. 1.Introduction
1.1.(a) Introduction – Flat Plate Collector
A solar thermal collector collects heat by absorbing heat from sunlight. A collector is a device for capturing solar radiation.
Flat plate collector consists of:
1)a dark flat–plate absorber,
2)a transparent cover that reduces heat losses,
3)a heat–transport fluid (air, antifreeze or water) to remove heat from the absorber, and
4)a heat insulating backing.
In water heat panels, fluid is usually circulated through tubing to transfer heat from the absorber to an insulated water tank. This may be achieved
directly or through a heat exchanger.

The Solar Of Solar Energy
Interest in solar energy has been growing in recent years. Solar energy is abundant, clean and renewable. There are two main methods to tap solar
energy, i.e. with PV cells and with solar collectors. The former converts sun light directly to electricity while the latter collects the solar thermal energy (
heat) to be used for various applications. Solar collectors have been in existent for many decades. Their usages are experiencing resurgence in the
recent years due to the interest in renewable energy sources. Strongly increased number of solar heating plants have been built and are under
construction throughout the world. The solar collectors used in the solar heating plants are flat plate solar collectors and often the volume flow rate
through the collector field is varying. The integration of solar thermal systems into buildings to meet energy requirements of buildings (for domestic
hot water, space heating, air–conditioning and lighting) is supported by many researchers in different parts of world. Many types of solar collectors are
commercially available; they differ in design and performance and, of course, in price. They have to meet different demands in operation, configuration
and meteorological conditions.
Thermal applications are becoming focal point with increasing attention in the solar energy research area as it has high performance in energy storage
density and conversion efficiencies. Solar energy collectors are particular kind of heat exchangers that

construction and the placement of the power plant may have long–term impacts on plant and animal life by reducing habitat areas for native plants and
animals. Power plants may require water for cleaning solar collectors or concentrators and may require water for cooling turbine–generators. Using
ground water or surface water in some waterless locations with major solar potential may affect the ecosystem. In addition, birds and insects can be
killed if they fly into a concentrated beam of sunlight created by a solar power tower. Another disadvantage is solar panels' dependence on the weather.

Sustainable Development And Energy Development : The G8...
The ongoing demand and patterns of industrial energy production and consumption are highly unsustainable which may lead to face multiple
challenges like global warming, greenhouse gas emissions, geopolitical conflicts, consecutive fuel price rises and at last fossil fuel reserves depletion.
Worldwide all the developing countries are working to make a vibrant industrial sector where entrepreneurs will make investments and thus
opportunities will be created for new jobs. To achieve sustainable development and alleviating poverty, most of the developing countries followed the
energy strategy to be focused on combating energy poverty by improving integration systems to the reliable and renewable energy services, enhancing
energy efficiencies and promoting renewable energy to meet rising energy demand in industrial areas. Moreover, in reference to UNIDO (2007b),
potential of renewable and clean energy resources to protecting the environment is yet to be realized. The G8 Summit Declaration of 7 June 2007
states: "Improving energy efficiency worldwide is the fastest, the most sustainable and the cheapest way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and
enhance energy security." [3,5–8, 52] However, in places without sufficient solar energy supply, it's not possible to create solar energy system
integration in industries or other promising sectors. Now–a–days these industrial processes are using electricity or liquid or gaseous petroleum fuels to

on advantages and disadvantages of solar energy. Also, how solar energy will affect human in later years in the universe. Once research is conducted
the report will then be organized into an informational report. The informational report will be shared with U.S solar marketers, John Barbour, and
others whom are interested in knowing more information about solar energy. The main objective of this report is to inform the reader on specific
advantages and disadvantages of solar energy.
Background
Solar energy is energy that is produced by the sun in the form of heat and light ("Solar Energy"). Solar energy is said to be one of the most widely
available sources of energy. Solar energy is also said to be one of the bestrenewable energy sources to choose from. Solar energy is said to be the
greatest of all renewable energy sources because it is plentiful and, solar energy is free economically. Solar energy scientifically can be used to
convert the sun's energy into either heat energy or the energy can be converted into electricity. If solar energy is converted to electricity, it goes
through either two processes. The first process is solar thermal energy. Solar thermal energy is a form of energy in which the sun is used to produce

We Needs Energy For A Successful Existence Essay
Introduction
The humanity needs energy for a successful existence. However, the amount of fossil fuel is decreasing every day. Proved global reserves of oil and
gas, at current rates of consumption, would be adequate to meet demand for another 40 and 60 years, respectively. Moreover, using of traditional
sources of energy causes the greenhouse gases emission. These gases keep heat energy of electromagnetic waves at lower atmosphere. The process that
produces this difference between the actual surface temperature and the effective temperature is due to the atmosphere and is known as the greenhouse
effect.
One of the main consumers of fossil fuel and source of the greenhouse gases is buildings. The solution of this problem is "upgrade" our houses; make
them smarter, environmentally friendly and effective. Moreover, the smart homes will have many devices, which will replace the big part of routine
tasks, and life of people will be much easier. (Stephene S. Intille, 2006). Governments support the building of eco–buildings, because they emit less
carbon dioxide. For example, in the UK it planned to reduce emissions by 2050 (DECC 2011, 30). Moreover, building of eco–houses will improve IT
and alternative energy technologies. This paper will argue that building of eco–houses is the best way of future architecture and building technologies.
At this research project, I used basic criteria. First of them is economic benefits for average income people. Second criteria is the degree of

Renewable Resources For Solar Energy
Solar Energy is something that the entire world relies on every day. Without energy, the earth would be dark, and nothing will be able to operate.
Lately, there has been many concerns with the various types of resources that are used to generate energy. Many resources that are used are
non–renewable resource. This means that the resources such as oil and coal are not grown or produced, they are found in regions in specific sections
of the world. These resources are also recognized as fossil fuels. Researchers have been working for numerous years to find new ways to generate
energy without using these resources that cause issues for the environment. By using renewable sources such as the sun, new ways to create energy
have developed. Solar energy is energy that is created by the sunshine. This sort of energy that derives from the sun can create electricity in
households. With new emerging technology, solar energy can perform different types of energy for diverse uses such as heating water or generate
electricity for a home. This alternative energy that goes beyond fossil fuels can be extremely beneficial for the environment; However, there might be
some downfalls for a consumer if they needed to use solar energy to provide electricity.
The sun has been playing a very significant role for earth and humans. It has been the producer of light and without it several things would not exist.
Now another part that the sun is playing in humanity is being a generator of energy. The

least prevent some of damages which it may cause. First of all, I will try to explain what parabolic trough collector is. It is one of the types of solar
thermal collectors which is straight in one dimension and curved as a parabola in the other. As you can see in the picture 1. the whole device can be
divided into following parts: parabolic reflective mirror, linear receiver tube or heat collection element, steel support structure/frame and a single–axis
drive mechanism. Parabolic trough solar field consists of hundreds or even hundreds of hundreds of solar collector located parallel through the field.
Every single collector assembly is an independently tracking subsystem so that it makes the whole system more efficient. picture 1 A parabolic solar

GREENoneTEC Case Analysis

  • 1. GREENoneTEC case analysis Lund University GREENoneTEC case LГ©a Couture Elisabeth Lussier–Arpin Vassily Coste Guilhem Arnaud Work presented to: Anna Thomasson Ola Mattisson BUSINESS POLICY–FEKH11 Wednesday, March 18th 2015 To be able to help GREENoneTEC management to develop the company, we need to analyze the product and company first. The company is part of the solar industry and went from a one–man business into one of the industry leaders in manufacturing flat plate solar thermal collectors for water heating. In 2003, Kioto became GREENoneTEC's sister company by manufacturing photovoltaics modules. The plan was to exploit all opportunities of the market. GREENoneTEC vision is that ''the sun is the most sustainable resource'' and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, we can point out another main challenge for GREENoneTEC that is the rise of raw material costs which have extremely increased since 1995 (the price of copper had increased by more than 150 percent in 16 years for example). Thus our company has to deal with this increase by looking for opportunities to reduce the costs of production. It can play on economic scale, searching new suppliers less expensive or even changing the conception of its products with different raw materials. We can notice that GREENoneTEC is facing challenges related to the Asian competition, to the search of new customers and to the lowering of its costs of production. The company needs to confront these challenges to stand out from the other companies on the solar market and to ensure its permanence. Solar industry The solar industry is divided in three main markets: the European solar thermal market, the Chinese market and the market in other world regions. The industry is segmented in two main types of solar thermal collectors, which are evacuated tube collectors (80 per cent on average of the worldwide newly installed capacity in 2010) and flat plate collectors (20 per cent on average). This industry is characteristic of technology intensive industries with their central innovation: solar thermal water heating which radically reduces costs. They can also count on experimented installers. Each customer adopt and have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Energy : The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Wind Energy In addition to being a virtually inexhaustible renewable resource, wind energy has the advantage of being modular; that is a wind farm's size can be adjusted by simply adjusting the number of turbines on the farm. A major disadvantage of wind is that the amount of energy available from the generator at any given time is dependent on the intensity of the wind resource at the time which is very difficult to predict. This intermittency of intensity reduces the wind generator's value both at the operational level and also at the system capacity planning level where the system planner needs information about how much energy they can depend on from a generator at a future planning date, i.e., when the wind intensity cannot be perfectly predicted. Another disadvantage of wind energy is that good wind sites tend to be located far from main load centers and transmission lines. Concerns have also been raised about the death of birds and bats flying into wind turbines, the possibility of turbines causing radar interference, and potential adverse effects of the shadow flicker5 on people living in close proximity. According to the estimates, onshore utility scale wind power plants have the lowest capital cost among the renewables at $2,213/kW. In addition, wind has a lower capital cost than nuclear and pulverized coal power plants. Offshore wind power plants, on the other hand, have an estimated capital cost that is higher than all other generating technologies except municipal solid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Water is pumped into solar panels where it is directly heated by the sun and then pumped into storage tanks where it is stored. Direct systems are very effective but have a shorter life span when compared to indirect systems. The reason being is that, the water chemicals erode the pipes and the panels over time and hence have to be maintained regularly. Water inside the panels can freeze in colder weather conditions which may result in damaging the system (Choosing a solar geyser, 2010). Figure 1–Direct System Advantages of a Direct System Service water used directly from collector loop
  • 4. No heat exchanger – more efficient heat transfer to storage Circulation pump needs only to overcome frictional losses. Disadvantages of a Direct System It is only convenient to use them in areas where it rarely freezes and the quality of water must be really good. Indirect systems use the same procedure but the geysers in this system have copper pipes that are used as the heating coil. Water is separated from the water inside the tank by copper pipes in this system. An antifreeze fluid circulates through the solar panels (Choosing a solar geyser, 2010). The fluid flows through the collector and then through the copper pipes inside the storage tank. The water is then indirectly heated. The indirect systems have a longer life span when compared to direct systems as there is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Thermal Solar Energy Lab Report The results of this simulation are displayed in Fig. 4, where injected and extracted heat per length ((q) М‡/L) pulses were simulated for 300 months. A charging time of 19 months is needed to charge the ground by thermal solar energy in order to achieve the desired design temperature. In the figure, this 19–month period begins in June and ends in January. When the system is actively supplying thermalenergy to the building, the temperature rises in the summer months to a peak of about 80 C and falls in the winter months to a low of about 67 C. The yearly average is about 71.5 C. Figure 4 Monthly BTES temperatures over the project lifetime During this charging time, the existing water heater and heat pumps will be used to satisfy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, some savings are achieved by using more efficient cooling technology to reduce grid purchases. The retrofit therefore reduces the total energy purchased from the grid, but it also modifies the hourly electrical demand profile. Both pieces of information are required to compute the savings, because it is assumed that the grid pricing is demand–sensitive, such that the price per kWh each month is a function of the load factor for that month. Load factor is defined on a monthly basis as the ratio of the average power consumption for the month divided by the peak hourly power consumption. The load factor measures the consistency of the demand over time, with high load factors indicating a more consistent demand that is less costly for the utility to provide. The monthly per kWh grid price is therefore inversely related to load factor. To determine how the building retrofit would modify the grid electrical demand, the original aggregate hourly demand is split, as was previously described, into heating, hot water, cooling, and baseline plug load profiles. The cooling profile is scaled by 80% to estimate the electrical load for the more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A Report On Solar Thermal Energy Solar Thermal Energy Introduction Solar thermal technology uses the sun's energy, instead of fossil fuels, to get cheap, environmentally friendly thermal energy. This energy is employed to heat water or different fluids, and can also power solar cooling systems. Solar thermal systems vary from solar PV systems that generate electricity instead of heat. World Solar Market The world has giant solar energy resources that haven 't been greatly used so far. Alternative energy presently accounts for a tiny share of world primary energy consumption, however its use is projected to extend powerfully over the outlook amount to 2030. The highest solar resource potential per unit surface area is within the Red Sea area. Australia conjointly has higher incident alternative energy per unit area than the other continent within the world. However, the distribution of solar energy use amongst countries reflects government policy settings that encourage its use, rather than resource availability. Australia receives a mean of 58 million PJ of radiation per annum, close to 10,000 times larger than its total energy consumption of 5772 PJ in 2007–08. In theory, then, if only 0.1 per cent of the incoming radiation may be regenerate into usable energy at an efficiency of 10%, all of Australia's energy desires may be provided by solar power. Similarly, the energy falling on a solar Darwin, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne and Hobart farm covering 50km by 50km would be spare to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Solar Power ABSTRACT Solar power has a vast potential. The industry is to see large growth in the upcoming future. However, there are technical and cost limitations which hinder solar power's ability to become a more influential global electricity source. Despite these limitations, solar power is utilized by many. From homes in the Unites States to developing countries, solar power is making lives and the world a better place. Governments must see the potential of solar power and push their country's energy needs away from fossil fuels and towards renewable sources, such as solar power. INTRODUCTION With the reduction of the dependence on fossil fuels, countries and citizens are looking for a way to fulfill their energy needs. Many turn to solar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... FINDINGS The largest obstacle solar power has to overcome is cost. Solar power has high startup costs. Stated in The Future of Solar Energy, "Currently, the estimated installed cost per peak watt for a residential PV system is approximately 80% greater than that for a utility–scale plant, with costs for a typical commercial–scale installation falling somewhere in between." These cost estimates often "include costs for inverters, racking and installation hardware, design and installation labor, and marketing, as well as various regulatory and п¬Ѓnancing costs" (The Future of Solar Energy). Many do not want to pay for the upfront costs of instillation of solar energy devices when an alternative energy supplier is already in place. In order to successfully reduce our carbon emissions, governments must become involved. Federal money must be allotted to the research and development of solar power for it to become a viable energy source. In doing so solar power will become less privatized and potentially more affordable. There has been recent growth in the solar energy due to "a 50%–70% drop in reported PV prices (without federal subsidies) per installed peak watt", and a "current federal tax subsidy for solar generation: a 30% investment tax credit (ITC)" (The Future of Solar Energy). The reduction of PV prices and a tax credit is a positive aspect for solar power, but the prices are still too high for the masses. The value of a renewable energy source is frequently lost when ... Pros And Cons Of Residential Solar Power This project is to identify the feasibility of residential solar power applications for the end–user, and any pros/cons and cost analysis of any such undertaking. We will compile existing data to identify how much grid electricity the average US household uses, how much they pay per kilowatthour (kWh), and compare it to the cost of installing solar power system. Taking into consideration environmental effects, government incentives, and pure electricity cost savings over time, we will demonstrate that every American would benefit by moving from grid electricity to solar power, even if opting for a partial–grid or grid tie–in solar system. Citizens of the world have been gradually showing more and more concern for the environment especially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Solar power is not consistent or reliable enough to be the only option for power. This technology relies totally on the sun so certain days we will be able to produce more power than others and at night we might not be able to produce any. Which is why we will not be able to completely sever the tie to conventional power generation. There has to be a method available to generate enough power to meet demand without available sunlight. Although as technology progresses we may soon be able to generate power from solar sources 24 hours a day. Modern solar power towers are being designed to store excess heat transfer medium underground during the day as its heated and recycling it at night to continue to generate steam for power production (Mills, 2004). But even with this ability we will not be able to go solely to solar power but it can still supplement existing power and drastically reduce the country's carbon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Renewable Energy : Improving Solar Energy Kwaku Sefah Jr Major: Math November 27, 2014 Topic: Solar Energy Improving Solar energy in the United States Audience: Home owners Executive Summary: Solar energy has been in existence for a longer than any of us will imagine. Of course the sun is the oldest and most basic source of energy. Solar technology has been in existence since the 7th century B.C. Solar energy is a clean and renewable energy that does not have most of the problems fossil fuels have. There are three types of solar technology that can be utilized in both our homes and businesses. The three types of solar energy are solar thermal and solar electric which can also be called photovoltaic (PV) and passive solar energy. Solar energy is developing and could be used as an alternative for fossil fuel which emits dangerous gasses into the atmosphere. I will be discussing about the benefits, problems and how solar energy can be improved in the United States. Introduction: The sun has been around since the beginning of time and it is one of the most efficient ways of generating electric power. Passive solar energy is simply the heating of home and buildings through architectural designs. Solar thermal energy is where the sun rays are used to heat our homes and water. It uses solar thermal collectors to collect heat energy and disperse it through our heating and plumbing system. This type of solar energy is very cheap and can be afforded by home owners. Solar photovoltaic uses the sun rays to electricity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a result, they are rather efficient at thermal energy absorption and power conversion processes. Thus, PDC is selected to be the prime mover for the integrated system in this study. Absorption chillers can make use of renewable energy resources, such as solar, geothermal and biomass, in order to generate cooling. The other benefits of absorption refrigeration systems are that they do not cause ozone layer retrenchment, they make use of natural refrigerants possibly having less CO2 emissions and they are independent of electric grids. The most common commercially suitable absorption refrigeration systems are single and double effect systems. In double effect absorption refrigeration systems, a secondary fluid (absorbent) is used to circulate and to absorb the primary fluid (refrigerant). The success of the absorption relies on the selection of an appropriate combination of absorbent and refrigerant. • 12. Developments and Possiblilities of Solar Power Solar power has been around for many years. The very first silicon based photovoltaic was invented by Bell Labs back in 1954. At this time the cost per watt was high at $285 and in 2009 it dropped to a mere $3.00 per watt (Solar Tech USA, 2014). Solar energy dates back as far as the 2nd century with the Greeks and Romans starting fires through broken glass. Indirect benefits from solar have been used way back to even photosynthesis (Bengtson, 2012). Passive solar energy was used to heat building by using the design to capture the sun for heating and lighting. Moving into the 20th century major changes have accrued and there is now concentrating solar power technologies for centralized solar thermal plants (Bengtson, 2012). The public believes that solar is not yet ready to take charge and become a major source of power, yet some experts disagree. Solar power in the 21st century has magnified many possibilities for solar use. Photovoltaic has created a large economic benefit by reducing the cost of other resources as well as its own for example solar heated water heaters have cut the cost of gas and electricity (Bengtson, 2012). Germany is a great example of how solar is in huge demand and working well to serve the consumers. • 14. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Renewable Energy It is easy to see the environmental and economic advantages of using the sustainable sources of energy but we must also consider all the disadvantages. One disadvantage of the renewable energy is that it's difficult to generate the same amount of electricity that are as large as those produced by traditional sources of energy, such as fossil fuel and coal powder plants generators. This may means that either we need to reduce the amount of energy we use or we need to set up more such facilities to balance with the world's growing demand. Solar Energy Advantages Solar energy is radiant light and heat from the Sun that is harnessed using a range of ever–evolving technologies such as solar heating, photovoltaics, solar thermal energy, solar architecture, molten salt power plants and artificial photosynthesis. It is an important source of renewable energy and its technologies are broadly characterized as either passive solar or active solar depending on how they capture and distribute solar energy or convert it into solar power. Active solar techniques include the use of photovoltaic systems, concentrated solar power and solar water heating to harness the energy. Passive solar techniques include orienting a building to the Sun, selecting materials with favorable thermal mass or light–dispersing properties, and designing spaces that naturally circulate air. The large magnitude of solar energy available makes it a highly appealing source of electricity. The United Nations Development Programme in its 2000 World Energy Assessment found that the annual potential of solar energy was 1,575–49,837 exajoules . This is several times larger than the total world energy consumption, which was 559.8 EJ in 2012. • 23. The Pros And Cons Of Solar Energy Did you know that the sun is one of the most key sources of renewable energy today? Solar Energy could be the answer to the world's problems if we use it right. Solar energy is a very clean renewable source of energy, that could stop global warming. Solar energy is created from the sun's light and heat. It has many positive aspects of usage. One of the most positive aspect of solar energy is how clean it is, it's one hundred times better than using fossil fuels. Solar can be used in many different shapes, ways and forms. There are two main ways of converting the sun into energy. The first method works through the use of photovoltaics, which creates electricity directly from sunlight through a photovoltaic cell. The second main source of solar power is called Solar Thermal Technology. In this process, the heat from the sun's rays are captured, harnessed, and then used to conduct energy for a selected source. The sun heats and lights a solar panel and it converts it to DC current, then the inverter converts the DC energy to AC and then you have electricity for your home; the extra electricity gets credited on the grid. A lot of people have no idea how much amazing things solar can do. Solar can power cars, run a steam engine, power cities etc. A lot of ignorant people in this world who only care about money and don't care about the future of our earth are totally oblivious to what solar can do. I picked this as my project to try and spread awareness on how vital solar energy really is to us. I also don't think people understand how clean solar energy is, it doesn't emit any greenhouse gases when producing thermal energy and electricity. The heat that comes from solar and is turned into electricity and hot water is called Thermal Energy. Our Sun's rays heat up a fluid then the steam given off from the heated fluid gives power to a generator that makes electricity. Instead of using propane, solar hot water is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to get you started with solar and it's amazing benefits. Solar energy has many positive aspects of usage. The first positive usage of solar energy is that this type of energy is 100% clean and there's no pollution involved. It is better than using fossil fuels because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Solar Energy Advantages And Disadvantages Solar energy can be use today in a variety of ways. Probably because today, more and more people are understanding the advantages of solar energy as our solar technology increases and the cost of fossil fuels rises. Solar energy systems today can now used to power homes, cars, appliances in a ways of like Photovoltaic panels, Heating water, Lighting etc. Solar Photovoltaic panels The most common form of solar energy used today are photovoltaic solar panels, which absorb the sun's light to create electricity. These solar panels can be attached to homes as a primary or secondary source of electric power. They can also be used for small appliances and machines which only need small amounts of electricity for use. Large scale photovoltaic panel plants have also been constructed to provide power to many homes. Solar cels convert sunlight directly into electricity. Solar cells are often used to power calculators and watches. They are made of semiconducting materials similar to those used in computer chips. When sunlight is absorbed by these materials, the solar energy knocks electrons loose from their atoms, allows the electrons to flow through the material to produce electricity. This process of converting light (photons) to electricity (voltage) is called the photovoltaic(PV)effect. Solar cells are typically combined into modules that hold about 40 cells; a number of these modules are mounted in PV arrays that can measure up to several meters on a side. These flat plate PV arrays can be mounted at a fixed angle facing south, or they can be mounted on a tracking device that follows the sun, allowing them to capture the most sunlight over the course of a day. Several connected PV arrays can provide enough power for a household; for large electric utility or industrial applications, hundreds of arrays can be interconnected to form a single, large PV system. Solar lighting One of the easiest way to improve home efficiency is to add outdoor solar lighting to your property. Unlike traditional exterior lights, solar lighting requires no complicated setup as the lights are wireless and harness sunlight during the day to circumvent the need for grid–supplied electricity at night. Malting plants and breweries consume heat for their thermally driven processes at temperature level ranges between 25В°C to 120В°C. It seems feasible to supply heat at this temperature level which is not higher than the actual amount required but in reality the it is often decided by the consumer which needs the highest temperature. Solar energy does have some disadvantages. One of the major problems with solar energy is the intermittent speed at which it arrives at the Earth's surface. This causes problems with consistency when heating or lighting. Another drawback to solar energy is that it requires great space to be gathered in effective quantities. This makes it difficult to place the solar panels in areas where space is costly, valuable, or unavailable. A final reason why we are not using solar energy is because it is quite costly. According to JC Solar Homes, it would cost a homeowner roughly one hundred to two hundred thousand dollars to convert his or her home to solar energy. Obviously, this is not realistic or reasonable for most people; therefore, solar energy is often overlooked as a serious possibility for solving our approaching energy pandemic. There are different types of commonly used solar energy conversions. Photovoltaic energy is commonly called solar cell energy. PV is a non–mechanical device that converts sunlight into electricity. • 35. The Rapid Depletion Of Conventional Energy Sources And... Abstract The rapid depletion of conventional energy sources and scarcity of fossil fuels are the major energy concerns. The renewable energy such as solar powered energy can be harnessed by using solar flat plate collector. A solar flat plate collector collects heat by absorbing heat from solar radiation. The performance of solar flat plate collector mainly depends upon the characteristics of working fluid. Conventional solar flat plate collector uses water as heat transfer fluid but it gives lower thermal efficiency. Nanofluids have superior thermal and optical properties that can be used to increase heat transfer rate. So our aim is to design and develop solar flat plate collector using Nanofluid as heat transfer fluid. 1.Introduction 1.1.(a) Introduction – Flat Plate Collector A solar thermal collector collects heat by absorbing heat from sunlight. A collector is a device for capturing solar radiation. Flat plate collector consists of: 1)a dark flat–plate absorber, 2)a transparent cover that reduces heat losses, 3)a heat–transport fluid (air, antifreeze or water) to remove heat from the absorber, and 4)a heat insulating backing. In water heat panels, fluid is usually circulated through tubing to transfer heat from the absorber to an insulated water tank. This may be achieved directly or through a heat exchanger. 1.1 (b) Introduction of Nanofluid A Nanofluid is a fluid containing nanometer–sized particles, called Nanoparticles. These fluids are engineered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Solar Of Solar Energy Interest in solar energy has been growing in recent years. Solar energy is abundant, clean and renewable. There are two main methods to tap solar energy, i.e. with PV cells and with solar collectors. The former converts sun light directly to electricity while the latter collects the solar thermal energy ( heat) to be used for various applications. Solar collectors have been in existent for many decades. Their usages are experiencing resurgence in the recent years due to the interest in renewable energy sources. Strongly increased number of solar heating plants have been built and are under construction throughout the world. The solar collectors used in the solar heating plants are flat plate solar collectors and often the volume flow rate through the collector field is varying. The integration of solar thermal systems into buildings to meet energy requirements of buildings (for domestic hot water, space heating, air–conditioning and lighting) is supported by many researchers in different parts of world. Many types of solar collectors are commercially available; they differ in design and performance and, of course, in price. They have to meet different demands in operation, configuration and meteorological conditions. Thermal applications are becoming focal point with increasing attention in the solar energy research area as it has high performance in energy storage density and conversion efficiencies. Solar energy collectors are particular kind of heat exchangers that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although solar energy is provided for an environmental friendly option however there are studies that reveal that it has health effect on humans as they produce toxins furthermore it has implications on our ecosystems and the provision of goods, for example crops, and services, such as soil carbon storage. As with any type of power plant, large solar power plants can affect the environment where they are located. Clearing land for construction and the placement of the power plant may have long–term impacts on plant and animal life by reducing habitat areas for native plants and animals. Power plants may require water for cleaning solar collectors or concentrators and may require water for cooling turbine–generators. Using ground water or surface water in some waterless locations with major solar potential may affect the ecosystem. In addition, birds and insects can be killed if they fly into a concentrated beam of sunlight created by a solar power tower. Another disadvantage is solar panels' dependence on the weather. The more direct sunlight a solar panel receives the more power it can generate. When the weather becomes cloudy, the output of the panels is dramatically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Sustainable Development And Energy Development : The G8... The ongoing demand and patterns of industrial energy production and consumption are highly unsustainable which may lead to face multiple challenges like global warming, greenhouse gas emissions, geopolitical conflicts, consecutive fuel price rises and at last fossil fuel reserves depletion. Worldwide all the developing countries are working to make a vibrant industrial sector where entrepreneurs will make investments and thus opportunities will be created for new jobs. To achieve sustainable development and alleviating poverty, most of the developing countries followed the energy strategy to be focused on combating energy poverty by improving integration systems to the reliable and renewable energy services, enhancing energy efficiencies and promoting renewable energy to meet rising energy demand in industrial areas. Moreover, in reference to UNIDO (2007b), potential of renewable and clean energy resources to protecting the environment is yet to be realized. The G8 Summit Declaration of 7 June 2007 states: "Improving energy efficiency worldwide is the fastest, the most sustainable and the cheapest way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance energy security." [3,5–8, 52] However, in places without sufficient solar energy supply, it's not possible to create solar energy system integration in industries or other promising sectors. • 40. We Needs Energy For A Successful Existence Essay Introduction The humanity needs energy for a successful existence. However, the amount of fossil fuel is decreasing every day. Proved global reserves of oil and gas, at current rates of consumption, would be adequate to meet demand for another 40 and 60 years, respectively. Moreover, using of traditional sources of energy causes the greenhouse gases emission. These gases keep heat energy of electromagnetic waves at lower atmosphere. The process that produces this difference between the actual surface temperature and the effective temperature is due to the atmosphere and is known as the greenhouse effect. One of the main consumers of fossil fuel and source of the greenhouse gases is buildings. The solution of this problem is "upgrade" our houses; make them smarter, environmentally friendly and effective. Moreover, the smart homes will have many devices, which will replace the big part of routine tasks, and life of people will be much easier. (Stephene S. Intille, 2006). Governments support the building of eco–buildings, because they emit less carbon dioxide. For example, in the UK it planned to reduce emissions by 2050 (DECC 2011, 30). Moreover, building of eco–houses will improve IT and alternative energy technologies. This paper will argue that building of eco–houses is the best way of future architecture and building technologies. At this research project, I used basic criteria. First of them is economic benefits for average income people. Second criteria is the degree of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
