2. Ideal view/ audience member:
Male
17+
Collage student / interests in sport
Hobbies: playing sport, socialising, keeping in touch with society, Hip-Hop music.
My typical audience members will be between 15-40 year old, as the certificate for my film is certified 15
anyway, so no one younger will be able to attend, I choose this age range because my protagonist is 18
years old, therefore the audience needs to be around that age to be able to relate to the narrative being put
forward. I predict my film will be more appealing to men than women, this is because the protagonist is male
and so are most of the other characters who help the protagonist through his journey. However the
characters in the film are good looking so it will attract some females. The other reason I think it will appeal
more to males is because sport is more male dominated and more associated with men.
However the typical viewer would be in a collage or university setting, and studying a course with in this
field. However extra curricular activates at both collage and university tend to be sport based so this is why it
would appeal more. They would also consider themselves a little rebellious in terms of the way they dress
and maybe some of the things they do with in there daily live, and are interested in basketball players who
are known for doing things outside the norms of society for example Ty Lawson and his DUI charges, but
most importantly they would fill sport closely.
3. Age
My age range varies a lot from 15-40years old. My protagonist is young but he is 18. This
then attracts the younger audience and also the crew for the filming and production
team are all generally young too making it easier for them to produce and distribute it
targeting a younger more modern audience. However usually audiences for sport- action
films is quiet wide because of the action part adding more drama to the sport side of the
film, statistically younger people are seen to go to high action films at the cinema or buy
them, however due to the success of films like Southpaw and Creed it shows that sport-
action films can make it within the cinematic world. I believe this because younger people
will be interested in this film and will force older people to come and watch the film. They
will enjoy trying to figure out what will happen next with in the story. From this I have
tried to pinpoint my age group even though it is a very large gap.
4. BBFC Rating:
I made sure my film would fit within the category of a 15. I looked into what is
included with in a 15 film (e.g. strong violence, frequent strong language, drug
taking) I realised my film would be best suited as a 15, because I plan to: use strong
language throughout the rest of the film, only limited violence is included with in my
opening scene but does not dwell upon the pain of victims as this would make the
film a 18 but also the content of the film the use of drugs and swearing that will be
shown later on in the film and due to it being heavy fiction I needed to make it a 15
so that younger children who don’t understand the content of film are not presented
with ideas will attempt to recreate. So I am confident that I have this all in when I was
considering the age rating for my film
5. How I found out my target audience:
To find out my target audience for my film firstly I conducting a questionnaire and
analysing the results. The results show that the dominating gender audience is male.
The audience would be familiar with sport action films stating that coach carter and
creed were there top sport action films however their favourite sub-genre was a action.
This shows that the target audience would be a teenagers and want a story that they
can relate to with less sport, even so I included sport with in the film to give it a added
dimension and as a challenge. From my questionnaire, the audience liked tension music
and slow music scenes, with some atmospheric scenes; therefore the inclusion of these
within my film will be used.
