Question 4
1.
2. My film is going to be a 15. The reason
we choose to have this certification is
because even though there isn't any
violence and strong language in the
trailer we plan to include it throughout
the full film. I think that it gives more
effect to the scene even though it may
not be pleasant to watch.
Suitable only for people aged 15 and older. No one younger than 15 may see a 15 film in a
cinema. It is illegal to supply a video work with a 15 certificate to anyone under that age.
Films under this category can contain adult themes, hard drugs, (frequent) strong language,
strong violence and strong sex references, and nudity without graphic detail.
I did some research on other certification, different from the one
we chose to make sure that we had chosen correctly.
Suitable for people aged 12 and older. It is illegal to supply a video work with a 12
certificate to anyone under that age. There may be moderate language. Strong language
may be permitted, depending on the manner in which it is used. There may be nudity, but
in a sexual context it must be brief and discreet
Suitable only for people aged 18 or older, which means adults only. It is illegal to supply a
video work with an 18 certificate to anyone under that age. Films under this category do
not have limitation on the foul language that is used. Hard drugs are generally allowed, and
explicit sex references along with detailed sexual activity are also allowed.
3. These three existing thrillers are all rated 15. They all fit the requirements
of the 15 film category. I thought looking at some existing products would
help me to compare and see how existing producers portray the rating
through their films. Whilst researching I found that 15 is the most common
rating for this genre of thriller. I think our product has quite an original plot
after researching. In these film trailers I can see common thriller
conventions. For example in the Shutter Island opening sequence there are
flashbacks which is a convention we also used in our sequence.
4. During the planning of our title sequence we created a questionnaire
on the website Survey monkey hoping that we would get some
responses.
The majority of the people who
answered were 15-19 years of age .
This tells me that that’s the age range
that are most interested in the thriller
genre. The fact that we chose our film
to be a 15 reflects this.
Other questions we asked helped us decide
what to include in the plot . For example some
of the question asked was ‘Would you expect a
thriller film to have a non chronological story
line?’ and ‘What characteristics would you
expect the protagonist to have?’. So overall the
survey was very helpful to us.
5. Not only does the people
interested count but the
fact that our storyline is
based around teenagers
lifestyles means that the
audience will be able to
related better with the
film. It gives the plot
that sense of reality.
Our target audience is people
aged 15-19. Most of this age
group will be at
school/college so certain
aspects of the film they will
be able to link with their own
lives as one of the locations
in our film is a college where
the character's go.
The protagonist Imogen
will be stereotypically
related to as we all know
a quiet girl in our
school/college or it
might be the audience
them selves.
