Language institutions are slow to embrace changes to accepted language, but accepted language is ultimately defined by public acceptance. Inclusivity in world languages is becoming increasingly important to acknowledge people who do not identify as solely male or female and to promote gender equity in languages that do not currently reflect it.

to what they deem as accepted language
• In truth, accepted language becomes what the public deems
acceptable

3. Why these changes?
• Acknowledgement that male and female are not the only genders
with which people identify. Transgender identity must be respected.
• Male / female equity in some languages does not exist
