MDAssn2: Major Assessment 6: Research Quantitative
The purpose of this assignment is to begin the process of completing Major Assessment 6
by creating a quantitative research design based on ePortfolio Research Scenario #2 ( Higher
Education/Adult Learning Focus).
Section I: ResearchQuestion and Hypothesis
ResearchQuestion: Would a 3-day professional development workshop improve the
teaching skills of adult facilitators at Green Valley Community College by 20% or more
on standardize pre/posttest?
Hypothesis: There is no significant difference in teaching skills of adult facilitators at
Green Valley Community College after completion of a 3-days professional development
workshop.
Section II: Researchdesign
Researchers will use descriptive analysis or descriptive and inferential statistics to
determine if requiring a 3-days professional development workshop to all adult education
facilitators at Green Valley Community College will result in 20% or more improvement in their
adult education teaching skills. This design is ideally suited to analyze statistical results and to
draw inferences (Creswell, 2012; Lodico, Spaulding, & Voegtle, 2010Triola, 2012).
Section III: Sampling Procedures
Adult education facilitators (125) will participate in the study.
Section IV: Data Collection Method and Implementation
Researchers will administer standardized pre/posttests before and after the 3-days

professional development workshop.
Data Analysis Method
A dependent samples t-test will be used to determine if there are statistical differences in
mean scores of research participants. A measure of central tendency and a measure of spread will
be used to identify, explain, and summarize the distribution of participantsโ€™ test scores.
Data Presentation Strategy
When using descriptive statistics designs, data are usually explained and summarized
using statistical commentaries, charts, and graphs (Creswell, 2012; Lodico, Spaulding, &
Voegtle, 2010; Triola, 2012).

  • 2. 2 MDAssn2: Major Assessment 6: Research Quantitative The purpose of this assignment is to begin the process of completing Major Assessment 6 by creating a quantitative research design based on ePortfolio Research Scenario #2 ( Higher Education/Adult Learning Focus). Section I: ResearchQuestion and Hypothesis ResearchQuestion: Would a 3-day professional development workshop improve the teaching skills of adult facilitators at Green Valley Community College by 20% or more on standardize pre/posttest? Hypothesis: There is no significant difference in teaching skills of adult facilitators at Green Valley Community College after completion of a 3-days professional development workshop. Section II: Researchdesign Researchers will use descriptive analysis or descriptive and inferential statistics to determine if requiring a 3-days professional development workshop to all adult education facilitators at Green Valley Community College will result in 20% or more improvement in their adult education teaching skills. This design is ideally suited to analyze statistical results and to draw inferences (Creswell, 2012; Lodico, Spaulding, & Voegtle, 2010Triola, 2012). Section III: Sampling Procedures Adult education facilitators (125) will participate in the study. Section IV: Data Collection Method and Implementation Researchers will administer standardized pre/posttests before and after the 3-days 2
  • 3. professional development workshop. Data Analysis Method A dependent samples t-test will be used to determine if there are statistical differences in mean scores of research participants. A measure of central tendency and a measure of spread will be used to identify, explain, and summarize the distribution of participantsโ€™ test scores. Data Presentation Strategy When using descriptive statistics designs, data are usually explained and summarized using statistical commentaries, charts, and graphs (Creswell, 2012; Lodico, Spaulding, & Voegtle, 2010; Triola, 2012).
