Operating a successful retail business is no walk in the park. You have to continuously drive sales and
attract customers to get noticed in the market and become a successful retailer- and retailers with
perfect business sense know that the easiest way is to start with signage.
No doubt attractive retail store signs are one of the effective and easy ways to communicate with your
potential customers and drive in foot traffic. This being said, retailers should remember that confusing
messages on the signage can also puzzle the audience and cause over stimulation of the brand. As

Specific is Good
Create a sign that gives the right message and make people read at their first glance. Messages should
be in the right place to enhance the aesthetics of the sign. Be specific while putting information on the
sign, such as: product information and location specific information.
Simplicity Still Works
Keep your sign as simple as you can, yet intriguing and stunning. If the messages are not clear, it will
create confusion and will drive away your potential customers and the information will be ignored. Ever
heard about that 5 second rule? Yes! You have to implement that here to make sure your customers get
the whole story in 5 seconds from the sign.
Headline to Spread
To be concise and clear, you have to add headlines that pitch the message in one go. In journalism, they
always say that punch lines matter the most. Well… that’s true and you have to live by it while designing
the signage. Simplify the texts for a clear understanding. With call to action at the end, an effective
banner should also include: headline and explanatory texts.
