1) The group adapted Ross' original film treatment into a new script for their recovery project.
2) They struggled to find a suitable filming location on campus but eventually found one. Additional location issues arose when someone died at their backup location.
3) Due to time constraints, Solo and Rebecca took on the acting roles themselves rather than hiring external actors.
2. ORIGIN OF IDEA
The adaptation of the idea came from Ross’ Film Treatment
from Semester 1, but we have adapted and changed it a great
deal for our project.
When it came to the actual script writing, Solo wrote a rough
one that was still adapted when we were actually filming and
recording the footage/sound.
3. ORGANISATION &
PRODUCTION
When it came to location, we did struggle to find one as all
the people we contacted in our initial week were unable to
help us, so one Saturday, Solo came in to scout around the
university to find a location that we could have easier access
to but would still be fit for purpose. There were also further
location problems down the line with us wanting to film at
Hallam Towers but somebody had died there the day before.
4. ACTORS
Since we only needed one actor (not including the girl’s
voice), and considering we were a little short on time, we felt
that it would be unwise to invest in contacting an external
client, and decided that it would be much easier, much more
efficient, and indeed much more convenient to simply do it
ourselves; with Solo and Rebecca taking the helm of our
actors.
5. INSPIRATIONS &
RESEARCH
The texts we had found as research
for our project were “Legion”,
“Requiem For A Dream” & “The
Fisher King”, unfortunately we didn’t
get around to looking at The Fisher
King.
A lot of ideas we had for wanting to
include in our extract were drawn
from these texts but some of them
were either overly ambitious or we
just couldn’t find time to do them.
6. ROLES &
CONTRIBUTIONS
Solo Shariff-Hickey:
On this project I acted as as well as being Director and
Producer primarily, but I also helped out in other areas of
post-production throughout the editing sessions.
Ross Walker:
I was the group’s cinematographer, which obviously meant
that I was in charge of operating the camera and designing
the shots we took. Although this was my primary
contribution, I did my best to assist in other areas wherever
possible; chipping in with editing and producing too.
7. ROLES &
CONTRIBUTIONS
Rebecca George:
For this my main role was sound design, but I also did a lot
of the sound recording as well. When we were editing I
synced up the audio for most of our film so that Ami could
edit it all in better rather than having to sort and edit it herself
while editing the visuals too.
Ami-Lee Galloway:
My role in the project was the editor of the footage. I made
sure that I was there for the whole of the production and
stood in and helped for people that couldn’t make it meaning
I also contributed towards sound recording as well. I also did
a bit of sound editing during post production
8. ROLES &
CONTRIBUTIONS
Ciaran Gallagher
The main role for me in this project was sound recording.
This required recording sound on set using a microphone
and Zoom. Secondary roles included helping out in the audio
editing as well with organizing the sound files and syncing
up some of the sound clips to the visuals.
