While Walgreens does some exceptional things to serve their customer, they do so in an
environment that includes several direct competitors and indirect pharmaceutical solutions. The
market is evolving very quickly and the speed and agility in which they conduct their business is
critical to remaining a leading force in the industry. Major competitors such as CVS and Rite–Aid
are two of the biggest external forces that Walgreens is presently competing against. (Walgreens

The firm brings in over $76 billion dollars in revenue. Those are figures from 2014, and as it goes

In 2005, private plaintiffs filed a class action racial discrimination lawsuit against Walgreens, their
employer in the case Tucker v. Walgreen Co., Case No. 05–CV–440–GPM. The plaintiffs alleged
that Walgreens Co. practiced a national, cultural discrimination against African American employees
and managers. Walgreens did this by denying their rights to be selected for entry–level positions of
Assistant Manager or Management Trainees, rejecting any promotions for African American
employees in the retail or pharmacy career paths, and placing African American employees in
predominately African American or lower income stores. The plaintiffs sought to receive declaratory
and injunctive relief, as well as compensation and punitive damages. The plaintiffs also pursued
class certification for all African American employees nationwide. In the fall of 2006, the plaintiffs
filed a second complaint which the defendant moved to dismiss. In winter of 2006, the District
Court denied the defendant 's motion to dismiss the complaint. The following year, in March 2007,
the EEOC filed an autonomous racial discrimination lawsuit against Walgreen in the U.S. District
Court. This case was renamed EEOC v. Walgreen Company, 07–CV–00172–MJR–CJP. The EEOC

One of the biggest acquisition of the year is the mega–merger between Walgreens and Rite–Aid. In
this event, Walgreens acquired Rite–Aid for $17.2 billion split between $9.4 billion in equity ($9 a
share representing a 48% premium of the market price) and the rest in debt. This acquisition will not

learned and experienced the essentials of Nonprescription Pharmacotherapy. The course comprised
of three experiences: (1) didactic learning in the classroom, (2) hands–on–learning with a plethora
of over–the–counter (OTC) products available in the laboratory, and (3) real world experiences
counseling customers in the aisles of Walgreens pharmacy stores. The didactic learning allowed me

appropriate OTC medications that can alleviate and/or prevent those ailments. I pieced together how

To further enhance my knowledge, the utilization of the products helped accentuate my abilities to
recommend them to customers. I am now able to describe how they taste, and understand the
simplicity or complexity of the utilization of different products, as well. The conglomeration of this
information allows me to personalize the recommendations I make to customers based on their
needs, characteristics and other important factors. Each additional factor that I learn helps make the
recommendation more beneficial to the patient and assuages any suffering they may be enduring.
