2. What is a
company
ident?
• A company or film ident is a short sequence that is
shown between tv programmes or before the start of a
film to identify the company that produced it. ‘Ident’ is
short for Identification so the the term company or film
ident is just a slightly shorter version of company
identification or film identification.
• The typical ident can last from 5 seconds to 10 seconds
depending on if theres music involved, lots of
movement and graphical elements and how it
transitions into the film.
4. Similar film
opening
• Saw – I think that once we hace edited and finished our
sequence it was be similar to the saw title sequence in
terms of intensity.Although our won’t, the title
sequence features two company idents one being
‘LionsGate Films’ and the other being ‘Twisted
Pictures’.
• Lions Gate Films in both a film production company
and distribution studio which is located in North
America. It usually lasts for around 10-12 seconds.
• Twisted Pictures is an independent production
company whose focus is movies on the horror genre.
This ident can be seen for around 10 seconds. I like this
ident because you can barbed wire wrapping and
twisting around the text which I think is really clever.
5. Warner
Bros.
Pictures
• Warner Bros. Pictures (also referred to asWarner
brothers,Warner Bros. Entertainment, and often
abbreviated toWB) is a film studio, film distributor and
entertainment company based and created in
America.
• At times theWarner Bros. Ident has evolved to fit the
theme of the film they have produced or distributed,
one of these being the Harry Potter series. Over the
years that tue Harry Potter movies were released, the
WB logo changed to fit the events and the growing
darkness of each of the movies.
6. • The company was first created in the 1920s and the first era of idents were featured in ‘LadyWindermere’s
fan’(1925), ‘old san Francisco’(1927), ‘The public enemy’(1931), and ’42nd street’(1932). In 1934 theWB ident
had the National Recovery Administration logo in the bottom right and it was used whenWarner Bros.
Supported the NRA.
• From 1935-1937 the iconic clouded sky background can be seen behind the shield shaped logo, and in 1935
the first full coloured logo can be seen on ‘Captain Blood’.
• Between 193 onwards a range of backgrounds can be seen behind the logo, this is mostly because they are
created to fit the film that’s about to follow. At times it has even feautured the character from the film.
What I like most about theWarner Bros. Ident is that it changed to fit the film instead of picking films to fit the
ident itself. It also adds a hint of fun or maybe a foreshadowing hint about the film and the tone of it.
