Anti Smoking Prescription Drugs
Tobacco is thought to be one of the most widely abused addictive substances worldwide and while
tobacco usage in the United States has appeared to have lessened in recent years, "it is still [noted
as] one of the most common addictions" to cause a myriad of known health risks (Tyler, 2014).
According to reports from the United States Census Bureau over the last 50 years, since the year
1964, smoking has led to the estimated deaths of over 19 million people, apprised to be around the
size equivalent to that of the population of Florida, the third largest state (United States Census
Bureau, 2004). The nicotine in tobacco products contains chemical agents that cause people to get
hooked on smoking, creating an addiction that can negatively affect ... Show more content on

Department of Health's Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida (BTFF) to establishing a comprehensive
tobacco education and use prevention program. Today TFF works in conjunction with the efforts of
the Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) to integrate Florida communities' efforts in aiding in the
reduction of tobacco users in Florida. In my community the University of Miami AHEC Program
offers seminars, courses, counseling, and numerous educational opportunities to learn about the
negative health effects related to the use of tobacco products as well as information on the healthful
benefits of quitting and what to expect when quitting, to guide individuals through the quitting

Smoking Cigarettes : Cause And Effects On Human Health And...
Breathe in. Breathe out. It's been said that for every cigarette a person smokes it takes seven minutes
away from his or her life. Nicotine is known to be very addictive and kills hundreds of people with
diverse diseases each year. Whatever may draw a person to start smoking, there are numerous
effects of those breathes. The use of tobacco, specifically smoking cigarettes, is found to have no
benefits to human health or the environment. The unknown chemicals and ingredients will leave the
consumer with lasting effects.
When he kisses you, you blow in his mouth!
According to Jack E. Henningfield, Ph.D. who studied at the Johns Hopkins University School of
Medicine; there are thousands of ingredients in cigarette that have not been researched to know if
they are considered harmful. Henningfield continues to say there are three main elements of
undisputed importance; tar, carbon monoxide and nicotine.
When looking at a burning cigarette the build–up of tar is visible at the end of the filter.
Henningfield states, "Tar, not present in unburned tobacco, is a product of organic matter being
burned in the presence of air and water at a sufficiently high temperature." (Nicotine: An Old–
Fashioned Addiction 32) He continues to say tobacco products such as snuff and chew do not carry
tar. Major health risks are started from smoking cigarettes.
Carbon monoxide is the gas that is produced when a material, substance or element is burned.
Henningfield says carbon monoxide can easily pass through the alveoli of the lungs. When a
consumer breathes in cigarette smoke, the smoke is travelled down to the lungs where the gas passes
through the alveoli. Alveoli are tiny air sacs where the oxygen that is breathed in is absorbed into the
bloodstream. Alveoli are then contracted to release carbon dioxide; the leftover waste from the
blood stream. During the exchange a smoker would not have a regular exchange in his or her blood.
Hemoglobin is the part in blood that carries out the carbon dioxide back to the alveoli to be exhaled
in normal metabolic processes. Smokers would have carbon monoxide combined with the
hemoglobin to form carboxyhemoglobin in the bloodstream. Henningfield says this is where a
shortage of oxygen will occur

Nicotine Addiction Paper
This paper seeks to question rather than answer our understanding of the motivation to use and
abuse of substances. Within this paper the author challenges the reader to critically contemplate why
a person would continue to use a substance that is known and proven to be detrimental to life, both
quality and quantity. In exploring the issues of substance use and abuse, the prevalence of Mental
Health Disorders stands out like a sore thumb. It seems to be so prevalent that the author feels a
need to explore that notion that the answer may well be within the question; Why do individuals
with chemically imbalanced disorders have such a high level of using, abusing, and becoming
addicted to chemicals they have access to.
According to the lecture and corroborating literature, nicotine addiction is one of the strongest
addictions. Nicotine has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Nicotine Addictions Summary
In "Warning: Vaping Teens Becoming a New Generation of Nicotine Addicts" an author from
USAToday.com describes the new way teenagres are becoming hooked to nicotie. More specifically
he argues that Teenagers are becoming addicted to nicotine through e–cigarettes. He writes
"Nicotine, contained in varying amounts in e–cigarettes, can rival the addictiveness of heroin and
cocaine." Additionally, It using e–cigarettes damages the teenagers mental state "For young people,
whose brains are not fully developed, it can be particularly dangerous, leading to reduced impulse
control, deficits in attention and cognition, and mood disorders." In the passage, the author is
suggesting that these e–cigarettes are just as harmful as normal cigarettes are.

Should Quit Smoking For Good?
Ever since tobacco and smoking has been invented and become popular amongst people of all ages
and backgrounds, numerous studies and methods have been dedicated to studying how one can
actually quit smoking for good. One may ask why start smoking if quitting is the main aim. The
answer is simple. People resort to it in times of crises or due to peer pressure, only later realizing its
harmful consequences for health. Upon interview, a US based Surgeon pointed out the fact that one
of the most important ways of enhancing the quality and number of years of one's life is to quit
smoking. (Guide to Quitting Smoking, 2012)This paper will mainly be focusing on the various
methods one can use in order to quit this habit for good. More so, it will ... Show more content on

rid of nicotine addiction. However, a qualified and specialized doctor needs to be consulted before
using such nicotine products and they are not be bought or used without a prescription. (Anda,

from your peer groups is also important in order to prevent any relapse that might occur and helps
you become focused on your objective i.e., to quit smoking. (Paddock, 2012) Keeping a record: If a

The Biological Aspects of Nicotine Addiction
Nicotine is the critical factor in tobacco smoke that dictates addiction and continued use of tobacco
(Stolerman and Shoaib 1991; Belfour and Fagerstrom 1996; Benowita 1996; Rose and Corrigall
1997). Markou (2008) stated that "nicotine is one of the main psychoactive ingredients in tobacco
that contributes to the harmful tobacco smoking habit (Stolerman & Jarvis 1995; Royal College of
Physicians of London 2000) leading to high morbidity and mortality throughout the world (Murray
& Lopez 1997)." Mayo and McGhee (2010) stated that "the complex behavioral phenomenon of
drug addiction is ultimately a biological process, where repeated exposure to a drug alters the

(2015) reported that "nicotine acts via 3 major mechanisms, producing physiological and
pathological effects on a variety of organ systems.
1. Ganglionic transmission.
2. Nicotine acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) on chromaffin cells via catecholamines.
3. Central nervous system (CNS) stimulation of nAChRs.
Brain imaging studies demonstrate that nicotine acutely increases activity in the prefrontal cortex
and visual systems. There is release of a variety of neurotransmitters important in drug induced
reward. Nicotine also causes an increases oxidative stress and neuronal apoptosis, DNA damage,
reactive oxygen species and lipid peroxide increase. nAChRs were originally thought to be limited
to neuronal cells, however, studies have identified functional nAChRs. Actions on nicotine receptors

Smoking And Nicotine Addiction
Smoking is addictive both physically and psychologically. The physical addiction can traced to the
nicotine in each cigarette. The psychological addiction is, in its own way, just as bad. Smoking
becomes second nature, like breathing. It seems hard to quit.
Stress is the main factor which trigger the smoking in the beginning and after when person addictive
to it.
In the central nervous system, nicotine causes apparent and immediate relief of anxiety through
neurochemical changes. When tobacco inhaled, nicotine enters the brain within ten seconds to
stimulate dopamine, acetylcholine, and norepinephrine. Through these actions, nicotine quickly
induces pleasure, improves mood, and enhances concentration and focus. Each cigarette provides
hundreds of rapidly fleeting nicotine hits that in turn cause short bursts of euphoria. The subjective

Thus, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure all increase after nicotine use.Nicotine effect on
the HPA builds a trigger smoking continues; The levels of cortisol and epinephrine in the body
remain high with chronic HPA activation. The result is a blunted natural stress reaction that prevents
the body from responding appropriately to other stressors.
Although smokers generally believe that nicotine reduces their stress, the repeated dopamine
stimulation provides negative reinforcement of cigarette use. Chronic smoking leads to the
compulsion of greater use to try to minimize the anxiety that results from lower dopamine levels
when the nicotine effect wears off between cigarettes.
Smoking and nicotine addiction are aggravated by additional, outside sources of stress, higher
cigarette use during times of known external stressors. In addition, the body of a smoker develops
chronic physical health problems from nicotine damage that facilitate stress

Nicotine Addiction: The Effects On The Body Essay
A Tobacco plant is made up of approximately 5 percent of nicotine by weight. There are two
categories of tobacco products cigarettes and smokeless tobacco. Nicotine has many effects on the
body but the effect it has on the brain is responsible for the so called "good feeling" that is behind
the addiction. Nicotine is considered to be addictive because of the psychological and physiological
effects on a person. The Center for the Advancement of Health published the results of a study on
teenager smokers:

Once nicotine is in the blood stream it flows almost immediately to the brain. The carbon monoxide
that is inhaled through the use of a cigarette reduces the amount of oxygen the blood can carry. The
reduced amount of oxygen and the effects of nicotine delivered to the brain cause an imbalance of
the amount of oxygen that is demanded and the amount of oxygen supplied. As a result of a reduced
amount of oxygen in the blood stream the heart rate increases, because the heart has to increase the
flow of blood to deliver the amount of oxygen that is required throughout the body. The body's
blood pressure also increases when nicotine is introduced into the body. Nicotine stimulates the
adrenal gland which releases adrenalin and noradrenalin. The release of these hormones can have
numerous effects on the body's vascular system and cause an increase in blood pressure. In addition
to the short term effects nicotine addiction also has severe long term effects. A person that is
addicted to nicotine has an increased chance of getting cancer. Nicotine can cause a cell mutation in
a user's body that can lead to cancer. Smokers are more likely to develop lung cancer than non–

Nicotine Addiction To Smoking Essay
Smoking is the number one cause of preventable death in the United States. Nicotine addiction is a
serious and expensive problem. Smokers have decreased productivity and on average make less than
non–smokers. Smoking is lethal to the human body through heart disease, respiratory illness, and
increased likelihood and mortality of cancer.
Tasked with pumping oxygen rich blood to the entire body and circulating blood containing waste
products to the appropriate destinations, the heart is a vital organ in the human body. Smoking
increases the risk of having coronary heart disease which the "...leading cause of death attributable
to smoking is coronary heart disease" (Tolstrup, Janne S., et al.). Coronary heart disease is caused by
the buildup of plaque in the coronary artery which supplies blood to the heart itself. This reduction
of blood flow damages and weakens the muscle of the heart. Smoking also causes a marked increase
in blood pressure which then causes the heart to strain and work harder in accompaniment to the
weakening. Smoking also increases the tendency of the blood to clot. A blood clot going through

When smoke is inhaled to the lungs, the cells responsible for the gas exchange are damaged. These
cells are known as alveoli and overtime the toxins inhaled break the very thin walls which makes it
harder for oxygen to be brought into the body and carbon dioxide to leave the body. Both of these
gases become trapped inside of the lungs which then further limits gas exchange. This trapping of
air is known as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The decrease in the body's ability
to obtain oxygen has an effect on every cell in the human body, causing weakness and damage to
every muscle and organ group. This damage causes an increase in oxygen demand in the cells which
in turn causes the heart to increase blood pressure to keep up with the rising

appetite suppressant. This has been known for centuries, dating back to indigenous cultures in
America in the pre–Columbus era. Tobacco companies caught on by the 1920s and began targeting
women with the lure that smoking would make them thinner.
writes Numerous studies have identified the uncanny inverse relationship between smoking and
Parkinson 's disease. Long–term smokers are somehow protected against Parkinson 's, and it 's not
because smokers die of other things earlier.
While smokers might go broke buying a pack of cigarettes, they can at least save money by avoiding

The Effects Of E Cigarettes On The Health Organization
According to the World Health Organization, tobacco kills almost six million people each year. As a
result, many new products have been brought forward to serve as healthy alternatives; the highest in
demand being the electronic cigarette or e–cigarette. E–cigarettes are battery–powered devices that
create a vapor mist from a heated liquid solution when the user inhales on a mouthpiece (Wagaman).
As of their creation in 2006, a growing number of people are taking up "vaping" instead of smoking,
resulting in an industry worth $2.7 billion worldwide (Senthilingam). Although the product is
healthier than the traditional tobacco cigarette, there are many defects that keep it from being the
healthiest alternative. Due to its negative health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In another sample tested by the FDA, diethylene glycol was present. This substance is a toxic
chemical commonly found in antifreeze (Torrejon). In addition, the amount of formaldehyde
contained in about ten inhalations of an e–cigarette surpassed the concentration of formaldehyde in a
tobacco cigarette at one hundred micrograms to seventy–six micrograms (Yoneyama). Also detected
were glyoxal and acrolein. These toxins are feared to cause inflamed bronchial tubes, coughing,
irritated mucus membranes in organs, and even lead to reduction in lung functioning (Yoneyama).
Lastly, A California Department of Public Health report written last year states that cancer–causing
toxins can be emitted from an electronic cigarette and can hook users on nicotine (Cornwell). "Some
people say they are safer than combustible cigarettes, but safer doesn't always mean safe," stated Dr.
Otis Brawley, chief medical officer for the American Cancer Society. He and other health experts
worry about the new alternative and believe that much more research is needed. Due to the
staggeringly large amount of health risks tied to each device, regulations need to be heavily
increased. Many are unaware of the burden the electronic cigarette bears, and restricting purchases
of the product can lead to a greater improvement in the lives of countless citizens.

Nicotine is a psychoactive drug that messes with the chemical makeup of a smoker's brain resulting
in addiction. Nicotine is considered the main addictive component in tobacco products that inspires
the continued usage. The rapidity at which nicotine is absorbed into the reward area of the
mesolimbic system causes addiction (Bodie, 2014, pg. 318) where is activates the dopamine system
generating pleasing effects on mood and behavior (De Biasi and Dani, 2011). The dopamine that is
released within the brain then speeds up the break down process of the chemical monoamine oxide
β. Monoamine oxide β supports the rapid break down of dopamine (Doweiko, 2012, pg. 221).
Dopamine is main element for the false feelings of reward associated with smoking a cigarette
(Benowitz, 2009). Nicotine binds to the acetylcholine receptors in the brain, which is responsible for
the release of endorphins and epinephrine as a smoker draws a lung full of smoke from a cigarette.
Endorphins and epinephrine are associated to the calming affects that many smokers claim to feel
during times of stress, as well as being linked to the reduction of fatigue, and increased alertness
(Doweiko, 2012, pg. 221–222). The gratifying feelings that are associated with smoking a cigarette
or through the use of other tobacco products, combined with the rewarding impressions caused by

Nicotine has a powerful addicting effect because it is absorbed rapidly into the pulmonary
circulation following inhalation from which it passes through the left side of the heart and into the
cerebral circulation. It rapidly crosses the blood–brain barrier and binds to specific receptors in
various parts of the brain. Stimulation of receptors by nicotine results in the activation of a number
of neurohumoral pathways leading to release of acetylcholine, norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin,
vasopressin and various hormones. Nicotine causes the release of the substance b–endorphin, an
endogenous peptide that also binds to opiate receptors. This indicates a link between addiction to
opiates, such as morphine and heroin, and addiction to nicotine.
Nicotine affects nearly all components of the endocrine and neuroendocrine systems, including
catecholamines, serotonin, corticosteroids and pituitary hormones.
Some of these endocrine effects are mediated by actions of nicotine on brain neurotransmitter
systems. In addition, nicotine causes skeletal muscle relaxation and has cardiovascular effects.
Nicotine is a powerful substance in controlling brain function. It interacts with specific receptors in
brain tissue, and initiates metabolic and electrical activity in the brain.

Cause And Effect Of Nicotine
In 2014, 16.8% of all adults in the United States smoke cigarettes on a daily bases, and every day,
roughly 2,100 minors and young adults become addicted to smoking (Fast Facts, 2015). Those
addicts will burn an average of 1.5 million dollars on smoking throughout their life (Tuttle, 2015).
Unfortunately, tobacco is single handedly responsible for almost 6 million deaths per year
worldwide (Fast Facts, 2015). So, even though society knows the risks and costs, why is smoking
such a popular addiction, and why is it so difficult to drop? When people smoke tobacco, they are
also taking in a toxic oily liquid found in the plant called nicotine (Nordqvist, 2015). Nicotine is a
nitrogen–containing base chemical found in the alkaloid group (Mandal, ... Show more content on

For frequent nicotine users, the body adapts to its addiction, so smoking a cigarette becomes a
normal routine (Understanding Addiction, n.d.). Those who try to withdrawal from nicotine will
immediately feel symptoms like cravings for nicotine, tingling, sweating, headaches, depression,
and anxiety because they are removing the substance that creates a guaranteed feeling of
contentment and relaxation (Gilbert, 2014). The body believes that the only way it will feel pleasure
is through the stimulus that initially caused those feelings, which is nicotine, so doctors will
occasionally prescribe victims of smoking with nicotine gum or skin patches to help slowly reduce
the cravings and amount of nicotine consumed each day (Russell, Stapleton, 1983). The most
important aspect to remember when quitting an addiction like smoking is that there will be relapses
because the hippocampus and the amygdala store information in the brain that will trigger intense
cravings when one encounters an object or scene that relates to smoking (Understanding Addiction,
n.d.). This sudden remembrance of an addiction from the outside environment is called a
conditioned response (Understanding Addiction, n.d.). Avoiding frequent smokers, chewing gum,
and holding a toothpick or pencil are all simple ways to prevent relapses. Thankfully, an addiction is
not completely permanent

Should Electronic Cigarettes Be Harmful?
Despite various claims via online websites and advertisements, electronic cigarettes are not a safe
alternative to regular cigarettes. Often advertised as having no dangerous chemicals, many people
would think that they are completely safe because of these misleading ads. However, electronic
cigarettes still have toxic chemicals inside of them, and even more that are created when smoking
them. The biggest reason cigarettes are addictive is because of a drug called "nicotine" inside of
them. This drug creates a feeling of pleasure in the brain, but it is short lived, turning that pleasure
into irritability and eventually addiction. Besides nicotine, e–cigs also have other ingredients such as
aldehydes (which kills cells around the mouth and throat), nitrosamines (which can cause lung
cancer), and even some metals. Because of these dangerous chemicals that are still present in
electronic cigarettes, they are not a safe alternative to cigarettes, the presence of nicotine being the
biggest reason. The nicotine drug is "a toxic colorless or yellowish oily liquid that is the chief active
constituent of tobacco" (Definition of Nicotine in English). This means that it is dangerous (harmful
to health), and is the main ingredient in cigarettes. Dr. Ananya Mandal, MD, says "Nicotine is a
chemical compound that is present in tobacco. When tobacco is smoked, nicotine is absorbed
through the wall lining of the small air sacs in the lungs. When sniffed or chewed, it is absorbed

Increasing smokes an E–cig of American college students under the age of 20 who have never

them from selling E–cig to children under the age of 18. James Lauria a 32 year old had a burn from
the first degree after the E–cig he was smoking blow up in his face (electronic cigarettes should be

Nicotine Essay
In the world today, Nicotine is one of the most frequently used addictive drugs. The impact it has on
society is like no other. It is one of more than 4,000 chemicals found in the smoke of tobacco
products such as cigarettes, cigars, and pipes. This addictive drug is the primary component in
tobacco that acts on the brain.
Tobacco can be found two ways, it can be dried brown leaves of various sizes or it can be a grown
form of tobacco. When extracted from the leaves, nicotine is colorless, but quickly turns brown
when exposed to air. It then becomes a poisonous, pale yellow, oily liquid with a pungent odor and
acrid taste. The amount of nicotine contained in tobacco leaves ranges ... Show more content on

When using the wet snuff it would be held either between your lips or between your gums and
cheek. The dried snuff is snorted up the nose and the chewing tobacco is chewed.
Nicotine has many various effects on the body. In small doses nicotine can serves as a stimulant,
entering the bloodstream and promoting the flow of adrenaline, a stimulating hormone. It also raises
the blood pressure and reduces the appetite, and it may cause nausea and vomiting.
Nicotine is addictive! Most smokers use tobacco regularly because they are addicted to the nicotine.
You can be addicted to the nicotine in a physical and physological addiction. Addiction is
characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use, even if they are in the risk of health problems. It
is well documented that most smokers identify tobacco as harmful and express a desire to reduce or
stop using it, and nearly 35 million of them make a serious attempt to quit. Unfortunately, 7% of
those who try to quit in their own achieve more than 1 year of abstinence; most relapse within a few
days of trying to quit. Some of the other factors besides nicotine addictive properties include its high
level of availability, the small number of legal consequences of using the tobacco, and the
advertising methods used by companies. What most people do not realize is that the

Reasons To Quit Smoking And Use E-Cigarettes
Why you should quit smoking and use E–cigarettes
Humans have grown on probably the worst habit of all time, smoking either tobacco/any other drug.
The amount of people smoking/starting to smoke is rising rapidly each year. Most companies that
supply tobacco are trying their hardest to increase their profit and sales, since evolving from 'the
classic pipe' tobacco is becoming easier to use and easier to get. The price of tobacco/cigarettes are
also decreasing rapidly every year which is another reason why the number of people starting to
smoke are rising. www.cdc.gov have studied that 6 million deaths and more than 16 million people
are living with diseases caused by smoking occur every year.
A popular belief is that it is nicotine that kills. It is only partially true: although nicotine does harm
one's health (mostly affecting the cardiovascular system), it is the tar, carbon monoxide, hard
particles contained in cigarette smoke, and a bunch of toxic emissions and heavy metals that deal the
most damage. Nicotine causes addiction, and the smoke does the rest.
There are a lot of new other solutions to stop smoking in today's life but the most effective and
under–rated is the E–Cigarette. E–Cigarettes are debated a lot whether E–Cigarettes are actually
harmful to the smokers heath or not. It is hard to say that switching to E–Cigarettes from cigarettes
are more helpful than harmful since they hold advantages that that can't be taken care of. Smoking

Essay On Stop Vaping
Stop Vaping, Kids. In the United States, the usage of cigarettes is slowly declining, making way for
alternative forms of tobacco and nicotine sources to become popular. In the past decade, one of these
cigarette alternatives has become very popular, even widely among teens, and it's referred to as
"vaping". Vaping is the use of electronic cigarettes that replace burning paper and tobacco with
flavored steam, which usually has nicotine in it (Kriegel). Since vaping hasn't been around very long
and hasn't become popular until recently, not much is known about the effects or how harmful it
could be long term. One source says, "There's also a widespread belief that e–cigarettes are safe, or
at least safer than conventional tobacco products. But several studies have suggested this may not be
the case," (Fox). Although there is a very strong debate on whether e–cigarettes are a safe alternative
for cigarettes, there are too many risk factors involved due to conflicting information and studies,
for vaping to be deemed safe. Although there are claims that e–cigarettes help people to quit
smoking, and some people are successful with it, there is no solid evidence. Most of the time when
people vape, they still use cigarettes. The case is often that people use their vape in public places

Because of the shortcomings the first approach had, the population–based approach was developed
in response to these problems. Geoffrey Rose, a British physician, came up with this concept and its
basic premise is putting more importance to tobacco control. According to his approach, it is vital to
recognize that the causes of an individual of getting addicted to smoking are distinct from the causes
of groups of people become cigarette addicts. His suggestion of a new perspective on how to look at
the present addiction problem, specifically cigarette addiction, give rise to a different approach to
develop a new intervention strategy to deal with smoking prevention and cessation. The strong point
of the approach is that it brings massive environmental programs to be involved. Making
appropriate policy changes or community members' attempt to change social norms of addictive
behavior are both excellent examples of such application.
Specifically, rendering smoking behavior as socially less acceptable, less desirable, and less
common is a way to use population–based reduction program to cause an increase in smoking
cessation rates. For instance, smoke–free workplaces did set up a situation where the incidence of
smoking can be reduced, dropping down consumption rate to 3.1 cigarettes per day (Fichtenberg &
Glantz, 2002). Such total

Informative Essay On Electronic Cigarettes
Four hundred years ago, tobacco was the first money–making crop in North America. Pipes and
cigars were in demand and they are still on the market today, but it is not as popular as back in 1600.
In 1800, cigarettes became popular up to this day. Cigarettes come in different brands, flavors, and
strength of nicotine. Health organizations across the globe have fought many battles against
cigarette smoking due to health risks. Nicotine patches, nicotine pills, and nicotine gums are just a
few of the alternatives that doctors prescribe to smokers to help prevent the urge of smoking.
However, more people are finding electronic cigarettes (e–cig) more comforting, helpful, and
because it is a trend, many non–smokers started using e–cig. E–cig is a handheld battery operated
device that vapors liquid that is composed of propylene glycol, glycerin, nicotine, and flavorings. A
person who uses e–cig is usually called "vaper". Despite the high increase of the number of e–cig
vapers, the safety and efficacy remain unclear. In Korea, a group of lung cancer specialists is
skeptical when it comes to safety and usage of electronic cigarette as final treatment. The group was

Addiction Mechanism
In 1988, the Ministry of Health in the United States defined the nicotine as an addictive substance.
Cigarettes and other derivatives substances generate tobacco dependence. The addictive mechanisms
are similar to the addiction mechanisms to drugs such as cocaine and heroin. Cigarettes are highly
efficient at delivering nicotine and other addictive substances. The average smoker takes in 1 to 2
mg of nicotine per cigarette each time they inhale. Nicotine reaches the brain within 10 seconds
which contributes to its great power of addiction.
The definition of addiction involves among others: the existence of tolerance (must gradually
increase the dose to get the same effect); withdrawal in its absence and the compulsive use of a drug
despite knowing the negative consequences on

The Addiction Of Tobacco, Nicotine, And Smoking
The addiction to tobacco, nicotine, and smoking is something the humans have embraced and
battled since the early 1800's. With more and more people falling into the habit and becoming
addicted, many detrimental health effects on the body caused people to question what was going on
and what was causing these negative reactions in the body. Soon enough, the healthy and "cool"
cigarettes that everyone was smoking became the face of lung cancer, cardiovascular disease, birth
defects, and many other deadly bodily reactions. In the early 2000's electronic cigarettes (ECs) were
developed by a Chinese pharmacist that hoped to allow smokers to maintain their nicotine addiction,
but limit or end the harmful and detrimental effects of tobacco on the body, due to his father's death
of tobacco–attributable lung cancer.1 A typical EC consists of a rechargeable lithium battery, a
heating tool called an atomizer, which vaporizes a humectant (typically propylene glycol, vegetable
glycerin, and/or polyethylene glycol 400). The humectant contains liquid nicotine. When the smoker
inhales, the heating tool is activated by an airflow sensor, and the nicotine is vaporized.1 2 A cousin
of mine, Susan, approached me after her father received open heart surgery. Susan's father, age 59,
has been a chronic smoker since the age of 19. What went from two cigarettes a day quickly become
two packs a day, with no end in sight. During July of 2015 he complained of feeling dizziness,

Smoking is an addiction that can risk one's health, which in turn can lead to death. As time
advances, both smokers and non–smokers are beginning to understand the harm in this deadly habit
because not only does it harm smokers, it can impact anyone who encounters the smoke second–
hand. Since the public has become aware of the health risks induced by smoking, cessation tools
such as nicotine replacement therapy are being invented to help terminate the desire to smoke. As
technology improves, smoking devices like the electronic cigarette are invented and can be
considered an effective cessation tool. Electronic cigarettes can deliver low doses of nicotine to ease

Quitting rates of participants who are unwilling to stop smoking at all using electronic cigarettes
shows how much of an effective cessation method they are. For nicotine replacement therapy to
work, smokers would have to volunteer to quit and seek help, while with electronic cigarettes
cessation just happens. Another effective way to quit smoking is to ease the amount of nicotine in
one's body as well as decreasing the stress of completely giving up the habit of smoking. A study
performed by Bullen and Etter found that 92% of smokers using electronic cigarettes for three
months reduced the total number of cigarettes they smoked (as cited in Rahman et al., 2014). The
use of an electronic cigarette reduces a smoker's need for cigarettes since their mechanisms are like
an actual cigarette. These devices also deliver nicotine to the smoker when inhaled, as well as the
user can choose the dosage of nicotine they're receiving. Furthermore, an electronic cigarette user
can start with a nicotine dose that is measurable to or higher than a cigarette then over time reducing
their quantity until the smoker no longer has the desire to be using the nicotine. This decrease in the
amount of nicotine will reduce withdrawal symptoms of the person trying to quit smoking, thus
decreasing the smokers need to use real cigarettes. Notably, a clinical trial done by Polosa

Persuasive Essay On Cigarettes
Do you like killing yourself for fun? If yes, have you considered smoking or vaping? Cigarettes,
cigars and E–Cigarettes, also known as vapes, contain nicotine, which is a highly addictive
stimulant. When nicotine is inhaled, it is quickly absorbed and diffused throughout the body, which
causes a quick, pleasurable buzz. This is what makes smoking so addictive. After the very first
inhale, a person has increased their chances of many health problems, especially in the lungs. Is
smoking for "recreational purposes" really worth ending a life over? The legal age to buy, use and
poses cigarettes, cigars, vapes and any other nicotine–infused substance should be raised from 18
years old to 21 years old. Getting addicted to nicotine is easy, but quitting this bad habit, is not. Only
seven percent of people who attempt to quit by themselves last, at most, one year. Nicotine from
things like dip, snuff, cigarettes, cigars, E–Cigarettes, and chewing tobacco gain access to the
bloodstream within ten seconds after being consumed. When nicotine enters the brain, it gains

Nicoine Subdiction : The Problem Of Nicotine Addiction
In everyday life, people live their life differently. Some are drunker, others are smoker so that most

smoking causes cancer of the mouth; throat; lung and heart disease for smokers and nonsmokers.
According to the board entitled "Talking Smoking Culture" by Dan (2015), any psychology student

warning messages that appear on packaging of cigarettes and other tobacco products like it doesn't

Tobacco Addiction : The Strong Craving For The Addictive...

Tobacco Addiction Tobacco addiction is the strong craving for the addictive substance nicotine. It
has caused health problems in millions of people across the country, and its effects are one of the
leading causes of death in the United States. I have had many family members develop serious
health concerns due to their tobacco addiction and know personally what a horrible thing it is. All of
my grandparents have smoked in the past and two of them have serious problems that came from the
effects of their tobacco addiction. Tobacco addiction is a serious problem, so in this essay I will be
expanding on it, and its many causes, effects and treatments.
The reason people become addicted to tobacco is nicotine, a chemical that affects both your mood
and your physical brain. It gives your brain temporary pleasure, and makes you want to use more
tobacco, which leads to dependence on the substance. It is the nicotine that gets a person addicted to
tobacco, but the other substances in tobacco that have physical effects on the user. The continued
use of tobacco can cause many deadly health conditions, and it is responsible for about 1 out of 6
deaths in the United States. There are currently more than 16 million Americans living with a
smoking caused disease. "On average smokers die 10 years earlier than non–smokers." (cdc.gov)

Harmful Effects Of Tobacco
Tobacco usage and cigarette smoking are major risk factors for death by cardiovascular disease and
cancer and for respiratory tract infections and reproductive disorders. According to Dr. Neal
Benowitz, M.D. (2010), approximately 435,000 Americans die prematurely from diseases related to
smoking each year. Now, you would think this very frightening finding – along with the multitude of
research on the harmful effects of tobacco – would cause people to think twice before using tobacco.
Yet, an estimated 45 million Americans currently smoke tobacco (Benowitz, 2010). So, what is the
cause of this continued use of tobacco? The answer is addiction to nicotine. Nicotine is the main
chemically active component in tobacco that leads to tolerance and dependence, which is a common
characteristic of other addictive drugs and alcohol. Of course, the nervous system, especially the
brain, plays a huge role in how nicotine is processed in the body. Nicotine affects receptors in the
brain and brain activity which in turn affects neuronal network functioning. There are short– and
long–term effects on adults and adolescents, and these effects are mostly very harmful.
Before diving right into the brain mechanisms of nicotine addiction, it is important to know how
nicotine gets to the brain. By itself, nicotine is a highly toxic alkaline liquid; in cigarettes it
vaporizes and is present in smoke suspended on extremely small droplets of tar (Jiloha, 2010). When
the smoke from a cigarette is

Cigarettes Should Be Illegal
Cigarettes Should Become Illegal
Like slavery, cigarettes should be abolished once and for all. Smoking is a negative activity that
humans participate in. It causes many unwanted diseases. Also, most smokers go through a serious
mental illness called addiction. On top of that, smokers leave selfish waste on our preciously
beautiful planet. Cigarettes should be illegal because they are unhealthy, addictive, and bad for the
environment.
Many people know that cigarettes are unhealthy. However, many do not know the ways in which
they are unhealthy. Before the nineteenth century, people seldom breathed in tobacco smoke. It was
considered very harsh and alkaline (Proctor 2). Now, cigarettes kill half of their long time users
(Proctor 2). Cigarettes kill an average of six million people every single year. This is like killing off
every single person that lives in the state of Indiana (Proctor 1).
Smoking affects the immune system, which leads to respiratory infections. This ultimately causes
autoimmune diseases, such as Crohn's disease and rheumatoid arthritis ("Effects" 2). Studies show
that smoking is linked to causing type 2 diabetes. Smokers are thirty percent more likely to get type
2 diabetes than people who don't smoke. Declined bone density is also in direct relationship with
tobacco usage ("Effects" 3). Tobacco use increases the chances of getting osteoporosis or a disease
where the bones weaken. Smoking lowers estrogen levels in women, which can

  • 1. Anti Smoking Prescription Drugs Tobacco is thought to be one of the most widely abused addictive substances worldwide and while tobacco usage in the United States has appeared to have lessened in recent years, "it is still [noted as] one of the most common addictions" to cause a myriad of known health risks (Tyler, 2014). According to reports from the United States Census Bureau over the last 50 years, since the year 1964, smoking has led to the estimated deaths of over 19 million people, apprised to be around the size equivalent to that of the population of Florida, the third largest state (United States Census Bureau, 2004). • 3. Smoking Cigarettes : Cause And Effects On Human Health And... Breathe in. Breathe out. It's been said that for every cigarette a person smokes it takes seven minutes away from his or her life. Nicotine is known to be very addictive and kills hundreds of people with diverse diseases each year. Whatever may draw a person to start smoking, there are numerous effects of those breathes. The use of tobacco, specifically smoking cigarettes, is found to have no benefits to human health or the environment. The unknown chemicals and ingredients will leave the consumer with lasting effects. When he kisses you, you blow in his mouth! According to Jack E. Henningfield, Ph.D. who studied at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine; there are thousands of ingredients in cigarette that have not been researched to know if they are considered harmful. Henningfield continues to say there are three main elements of undisputed importance; tar, carbon monoxide and nicotine. When looking at a burning cigarette the build–up of tar is visible at the end of the filter. Henningfield states, "Tar, not present in unburned tobacco, is a product of organic matter being burned in the presence of air and water at a sufficiently high temperature." (Nicotine: An Old– Fashioned Addiction 32) He continues to say tobacco products such as snuff and chew do not carry tar. Major health risks are started from smoking cigarettes. Carbon monoxide is the gas that is produced when a material, substance or element is burned. Henningfield says carbon monoxide can easily pass through the alveoli of the lungs. When a consumer breathes in cigarette smoke, the smoke is travelled down to the lungs where the gas passes through the alveoli. Alveoli are tiny air sacs where the oxygen that is breathed in is absorbed into the bloodstream. Alveoli are then contracted to release carbon dioxide; the leftover waste from the blood stream. During the exchange a smoker would not have a regular exchange in his or her blood. Hemoglobin is the part in blood that carries out the carbon dioxide back to the alveoli to be exhaled in normal metabolic processes. Smokers would have carbon monoxide combined with the hemoglobin to form carboxyhemoglobin in the bloodstream. Henningfield says this is where a shortage of oxygen will occur ... • 5. Nicotine Addiction Paper This paper seeks to question rather than answer our understanding of the motivation to use and abuse of substances. Within this paper the author challenges the reader to critically contemplate why a person would continue to use a substance that is known and proven to be detrimental to life, both quality and quantity. In exploring the issues of substance use and abuse, the prevalence of Mental Health Disorders stands out like a sore thumb. It seems to be so prevalent that the author feels a need to explore that notion that the answer may well be within the question; Why do individuals with chemically imbalanced disorders have such a high level of using, abusing, and becoming addicted to chemicals they have access to. Does chemical imbalance account for an even higher rate of smoking than is currently known or reported? The psychological addiction is, in its own way, just as bad. Smoking becomes second nature, like breathing. It seems hard to quit. Stress is the main factor which trigger the smoking in the beginning and after when person addictive to it. In the central nervous system, nicotine causes apparent and immediate relief of anxiety through neurochemical changes. When tobacco inhaled, nicotine enters the brain within ten seconds to stimulate dopamine, acetylcholine, and norepinephrine. Through these actions, nicotine quickly induces pleasure, improves mood, and enhances concentration and focus. There are two categories of tobacco products cigarettes and smokeless tobacco. Nicotine has many effects on the body but the effect it has on the brain is responsible for the so called "good feeling" that is behind the addiction. Nicotine is considered to be addictive because of the psychological and physiological effects on a person. The Center for the Advancement of Health published the results of a study on teenager smokers: Almost two–thirds of the smokers had one or more symptoms of nicotine dependence, and of these, almost two–thirds said that they had their first symptom before they began smoking every day or that the symptoms had made them start smoking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once nicotine is in the blood stream it flows almost immediately to the brain. The carbon monoxide that is inhaled through the use of a cigarette reduces the amount of oxygen the blood can carry. The reduced amount of oxygen and the effects of nicotine delivered to the brain cause an imbalance of the amount of oxygen that is demanded and the amount of oxygen supplied. As a result of a reduced amount of oxygen in the blood stream the heart rate increases, because the heart has to increase the flow of blood to deliver the amount of oxygen that is required throughout the body. The body's blood pressure also increases when nicotine is introduced into the body. Nicotine stimulates the adrenal gland which releases adrenalin and noradrenalin. The release of these hormones can have numerous effects on the body's vascular system and cause an increase in blood pressure. In addition to the short term effects nicotine addiction also has severe long term effects. A person that is addicted to nicotine has an increased chance of getting cancer. Nicotine can cause a cell mutation in a user's body that can lead to cancer. Smokers are more likely to develop lung cancer than non– smokers. • 25. Nicotine Addiction To Smoking Essay Smoking is the number one cause of preventable death in the United States. Nicotine addiction is a serious and expensive problem. Smokers have decreased productivity and on average make less than non–smokers. Smoking is lethal to the human body through heart disease, respiratory illness, and increased likelihood and mortality of cancer. Tasked with pumping oxygen rich blood to the entire body and circulating blood containing waste products to the appropriate destinations, the heart is a vital organ in the human body. Smoking increases the risk of having coronary heart disease which the "...leading cause of death attributable to smoking is coronary heart disease" (Tolstrup, Janne S., et al.). Coronary heart disease is caused by the buildup of plaque in the coronary artery which supplies blood to the heart itself. This reduction of blood flow damages and weakens the muscle of the heart. Smoking also causes a marked increase in blood pressure which then causes the heart to strain and work harder in accompaniment to the weakening. Nicotine is a psychoactive drug that messes with the chemical makeup of a smoker's brain resulting in addiction. Nicotine is considered the main addictive component in tobacco products that inspires the continued usage. The rapidity at which nicotine is absorbed into the reward area of the mesolimbic system causes addiction (Bodie, 2014, pg. 318) where is activates the dopamine system generating pleasing effects on mood and behavior (De Biasi and Dani, 2011). The dopamine that is released within the brain then speeds up the break down process of the chemical monoamine oxide β. Monoamine oxide β supports the rapid break down of dopamine (Doweiko, 2012, pg. 221). Dopamine is main element for the false feelings of reward associated with smoking a cigarette (Benowitz, 2009). Nicotine binds to the acetylcholine receptors in the brain, which is responsible for the release of endorphins and epinephrine as a smoker draws a lung full of smoke from a cigarette. Endorphins and epinephrine are associated to the calming affects that many smokers claim to feel during times of stress, as well as being linked to the reduction of fatigue, and increased alertness (Doweiko, 2012, pg. 221–222). Often advertised as having no dangerous chemicals, many people would think that they are completely safe because of these misleading ads. However, electronic cigarettes still have toxic chemicals inside of them, and even more that are created when smoking them. The biggest reason cigarettes are addictive is because of a drug called "nicotine" inside of them. This drug creates a feeling of pleasure in the brain, but it is short lived, turning that pleasure into irritability and eventually addiction. Besides nicotine, e–cigs also have other ingredients such as aldehydes (which kills cells around the mouth and throat), nitrosamines (which can cause lung cancer), and even some metals. The definition of addiction involves among others: the existence of tolerance (must gradually increase the dose to get the same effect); withdrawal in its absence and the compulsive use of a drug despite knowing the negative consequences on ... • 62. The Addiction Of Tobacco, Nicotine, And Smoking The addiction to tobacco, nicotine, and smoking is something the humans have embraced and battled since the early 1800's. With more and more people falling into the habit and becoming addicted, many detrimental health effects on the body caused people to question what was going on and what was causing these negative reactions in the body. Soon enough, the healthy and "cool" cigarettes that everyone was smoking became the face of lung cancer, cardiovascular disease, birth defects, and many other deadly bodily reactions. In the early 2000's electronic cigarettes (ECs) were developed by a Chinese pharmacist that hoped to allow smokers to maintain their nicotine addiction, but limit or end the harmful and detrimental effects of tobacco on the body, due to his father's death of tobacco–attributable lung cancer.1 A typical EC consists of a rechargeable lithium battery, a heating tool called an atomizer, which vaporizes a humectant (typically propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, and/or polyethylene glycol 400). The humectant contains liquid nicotine. When the smoker inhales, the heating tool is activated by an airflow sensor, and the nicotine is vaporized.1 2 A cousin of mine, Susan, approached me after her father received open heart surgery. Susan's father, age 59, has been a chronic smoker since the age of 19. What went from two cigarettes a day quickly become two packs a day, with no end in sight. During July of 2015 he complained of feeling dizziness, shortness of breath, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. Persuasive Essay On Smoking Cessation Smoking is an addiction that can risk one's health, which in turn can lead to death. As time advances, both smokers and non–smokers are beginning to understand the harm in this deadly habit because not only does it harm smokers, it can impact anyone who encounters the smoke second– hand. Since the public has become aware of the health risks induced by smoking, cessation tools such as nicotine replacement therapy are being invented to help terminate the desire to smoke. As technology improves, smoking devices like the electronic cigarette are invented and can be considered an effective cessation tool. Electronic cigarettes can deliver low doses of nicotine to ease withdrawal symptoms. Furthermore, as electronic cigarettes increase in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Quitting rates of participants who are unwilling to stop smoking at all using electronic cigarettes shows how much of an effective cessation method they are. For nicotine replacement therapy to work, smokers would have to volunteer to quit and seek help, while with electronic cigarettes cessation just happens. Another effective way to quit smoking is to ease the amount of nicotine in one's body as well as decreasing the stress of completely giving up the habit of smoking. A study performed by Bullen and Etter found that 92% of smokers using electronic cigarettes for three months reduced the total number of cigarettes they smoked (as cited in Rahman et al., 2014). The use of an electronic cigarette reduces a smoker's need for cigarettes since their mechanisms are like an actual cigarette. These devices also deliver nicotine to the smoker when inhaled, as well as the user can choose the dosage of nicotine they're receiving. Furthermore, an electronic cigarette user can start with a nicotine dose that is measurable to or higher than a cigarette then over time reducing their quantity until the smoker no longer has the desire to be using the nicotine. This decrease in the amount of nicotine will reduce withdrawal symptoms of the person trying to quit smoking, thus decreasing the smokers need to use real cigarettes. Notably, a clinical trial done by Polosa ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 66. Persuasive Essay On Cigarettes Do you like killing yourself for fun? If yes, have you considered smoking or vaping? Cigarettes, cigars and E–Cigarettes, also known as vapes, contain nicotine, which is a highly addictive stimulant. When nicotine is inhaled, it is quickly absorbed and diffused throughout the body, which causes a quick, pleasurable buzz. This is what makes smoking so addictive. After the very first inhale, a person has increased their chances of many health problems, especially in the lungs. Is smoking for "recreational purposes" really worth ending a life over? The legal age to buy, use and poses cigarettes, cigars, vapes and any other nicotine–infused substance should be raised from 18 years old to 21 years old. Getting addicted to nicotine is easy, but quitting this bad habit, is not. Only seven percent of people who attempt to quit by themselves last, at most, one year. Nicotine from things like dip, snuff, cigarettes, cigars, E–Cigarettes, and chewing tobacco gain access to the bloodstream within ten seconds after being consumed. When nicotine enters the brain, it gains control over the flow of more than 200 neuro–chemicals; the most important being dopamine, says whyquit.com. Dopamine is a built–in teacher. It uses a desire or wanting sensation to get your attention so that you perform a certain task. This is why when you finally smoke that cigarette after a few hours, you have a feeling of satisfaction that your need for nicotine has been fulfilled. Most people who smoke in their ... • 72. Nicoine Subdiction : The Problem Of Nicotine Addiction In everyday life, people live their life differently. Some are drunker, others are smoker so that most of them solidify the relationship from this kind of living. Are smoking warnings any use? No body care about any required warning statements marked on cigar package and we all know that cigar smoking causes cancer of the mouth; throat; lung and heart disease for smokers and nonsmokers. According to the board entitled "Talking Smoking Culture" by Dan (2015), any psychology student will tell you that putting warnings on anything is counter–productive. All smokers ignore the warning messages that appear on packaging of cigarettes and other tobacco products like it doesn't exist. They don't care or notice the harmful effects of smoking until they buy and have the cigarette in hand. While the warning messages contribute to changing consumers' attitudes towards tobacco use as well as changing smoker's behavior, person want to see these notices, and it became insane to see how vendors are hiding these cigs under the counter to be ordered on demand. In fact, it is clear that tobacco package health warnings increase smoker's knowledge about the consequences of smoking such as smoking effect on human body and environment, etc. My research paper will define nicotine addiction's problem and then propose solutions to the problem caused by smoking such as secondhand smoke thus that the way to reduce the harm of cigarette smoke. • 74. Tobacco Addiction : The Strong Craving For The Addictive... Paul Becker Professor Roger Gosselin English 102 25 October 2015 Tobacco Addiction Tobacco addiction is the strong craving for the addictive substance nicotine. It has caused health problems in millions of people across the country, and its effects are one of the leading causes of death in the United States. I have had many family members develop serious health concerns due to their tobacco addiction and know personally what a horrible thing it is. All of my grandparents have smoked in the past and two of them have serious problems that came from the effects of their tobacco addiction. Tobacco addiction is a serious problem, so in this essay I will be expanding on it, and its many causes, effects and treatments. The reason people become addicted to tobacco is nicotine, a chemical that affects both your mood and your physical brain. It gives your brain temporary pleasure, and makes you want to use more tobacco, which leads to dependence on the substance. It is the nicotine that gets a person addicted to tobacco, but the other substances in tobacco that have physical effects on the user. The continued use of tobacco can cause many deadly health conditions, and it is responsible for about 1 out of 6 deaths in the United States. There are currently more than 16 million Americans living with a smoking caused disease. "On average smokers die 10 years earlier than non–smokers." (cdc.gov) Tobacco addiction is also responsible for at least 480,00 deaths per year in the United ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. Harmful Effects Of Tobacco Tobacco usage and cigarette smoking are major risk factors for death by cardiovascular disease and cancer and for respiratory tract infections and reproductive disorders. According to Dr. Neal Benowitz, M.D. (2010), approximately 435,000 Americans die prematurely from diseases related to smoking each year. Now, you would think this very frightening finding – along with the multitude of research on the harmful effects of tobacco – would cause people to think twice before using tobacco. Yet, an estimated 45 million Americans currently smoke tobacco (Benowitz, 2010). So, what is the cause of this continued use of tobacco? The answer is addiction to nicotine. Nicotine is the main chemically active component in tobacco that leads to tolerance and dependence, which is a common characteristic of other addictive drugs and alcohol. Of course, the nervous system, especially the brain, plays a huge role in how nicotine is processed in the body. Nicotine affects receptors in the brain and brain activity which in turn affects neuronal network functioning. There are short– and long–term effects on adults and adolescents, and these effects are mostly very harmful. Before diving right into the brain mechanisms of nicotine addiction, it is important to know how nicotine gets to the brain. By itself, nicotine is a highly toxic alkaline liquid; in cigarettes it vaporizes and is present in smoke suspended on extremely small droplets of tar (Jiloha, 2010). • 78. Cigarettes Should Be Illegal Cigarettes Should Become Illegal Like slavery, cigarettes should be abolished once and for all. Smoking is a negative activity that humans participate in. It causes many unwanted diseases. Also, most smokers go through a serious mental illness called addiction. On top of that, smokers leave selfish waste on our preciously beautiful planet. Cigarettes should be illegal because they are unhealthy, addictive, and bad for the environment. Many people know that cigarettes are unhealthy. However, many do not know the ways in which they are unhealthy. Before the nineteenth century, people seldom breathed in tobacco smoke. It was considered very harsh and alkaline (Proctor 2). Now, cigarettes kill half of their long time users (Proctor 2). Cigarettes kill an average of six million people every single year. This is like killing off every single person that lives in the state of Indiana (Proctor 1). Smoking affects the immune system, which leads to respiratory infections. This ultimately causes autoimmune diseases, such as Crohn's disease and rheumatoid arthritis ("Effects" 2). Studies show that smoking is linked to causing type 2 diabetes. Smokers are thirty percent more likely to get type 2 diabetes than people who don't smoke. Declined bone density is also in direct relationship with tobacco usage ("Effects" 3). Tobacco use increases the chances of getting osteoporosis or a disease where the bones weaken. Smoking lowers estrogen levels in women, which can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
