Lifestyles Introduction
If you look up the word Lifestyle in the dictionary you will find the definition "a way of life or style
of living that reflects the attitudes and values of a person or group". However this definition does
not pertain much to marketing, or consumer purchasing habits. Another definition that would be of
more relevance and importance to marketers is "Lifestyle refers to a pattern of consumption, of how
he or she spends their time and money".
A lifestyle marketing perspective shows how people sort themselves into groups on the basis of
activities they enjoy, how they spend their free time, and how they spend their disposable income.
This gives marketers a chance for market segmentation strategies. Market...show more content...
Psychographics is basically the separation of customers into categories depending on different
choices in consumption activities, and product usage.
Marketers were always fascinated by the intangibles of consumer demand but it wasn't until the
1960s when social upheaval splintered the mass market beyond anything recognizable that
marketers invented a way to measure those intangibles. However despite being around for over 30
years or so Psychographics is still one of the least understood concepts in marketing research.
Many marketers consider demographics and psychographics as two separate things when in
actuality psychographics was developed to compliment demographics. The term first appeared in
Grey Advertising's publication "Grey Matter" in 1965. It was hailed as a way for researchers to
quantify the slippery field of consumer psychology.
A psycho graphic study combines consumers' measurable demographic characteristics with the more
abstract aspects of attitudes, opinions, and interests. Demographic, purchasing media, and psycho
graphic information is coded from surveys, thrown together and analyzed until some groups with
shared characteristics are can be distinguished from all other groups.

Essay about Health and Wellbeing
In society today, there is an extensive range of definitions of health and wellbeing which can be
seen as both positive and negative. A Holistic view can also be identified and defined. These
definitions of health have changed over time and will carry on changing within the future.
According to where a family lives or their social class everyone will have different meanings and
views of health and wellbeing. This may be due to what one person perceives as being healthy as
another person may not. Channel 4 learning (no date) describes that a positive view of health can
be seen as when a person is more likely to achieve and sustain physical fitness from exercising and
are mentally stable. Therefor a negative view can be described when a...show more content...
According to Floyd, Mimms and Yelding (2008) Webster's Dictionary defines health as "the
condition of being sound in body, mind and spirit... freedom from physical disease or pain." This
definition has very much taken the holistic view. Wellbeing is a term in which reflects on the
positive emphasis on health and can be broken down into six aspects know as environmental,
physical, social, emotional, mental and spiritual. To achieve a high balance of wellbeing it is vital
that a person is able to balance and take care of each aspect effectively. Underdown (2007) implies
that in 1948 the World Health Organization(WHO) defines health as 'a state of complete physical,
mental and social well–being and not just the absence of disease or infirmity.' This definition took a
holistic view as it mentions mental and social wellbeing and it was supported as it focused on a
person being healthy rather than not being ill. However, this definition has been widely criticized.
Seedhouse (1986) believed that for someone to be in perfect state of health is unachievable and
unrealistic.
There is a wide range of major genetic, social and environmental factors which influence the health
and wellbeing of children in today's society. According to The Marmot Review (2011) the more
deprived the area or district which a child lives in, the more likely it is to have social and

Defining Myself Essay
Sometimes a person may feel that they have no purpose in life. Finding out who you are just
takes the time of sitting down and thinking of the importance in your life. Who am I? I am
Mercedes Kimberly Kingston, and I am a person with different personalities, characteristics, and
identities. The many ways, in which I identify myself, in fact, are the ways that define who I am.
My Identity is something only I can fully define. I have a little brother, which makes me a sister; I
have two loving parents, which makes me a daughter; I am in college studying medicine, which
makes me a student; and I have wonderful friends in desperate need of support, which makes me a
wonderful best friend. Before anything, I am a big sister to...show more content...
It is seen as an essential part of learning and using what you learn in class. But when you get loads of
class work and have very little time to finish it, then it becomes an unnecessary burden. Yet,
sometimes, for me, it is the fact that I procrastinate that prevents me from completing a task. For
college student, like myself who is working to pay for college, large amounts of class work
usually brings lots of stress and fear of not being able to get good grades in many of my classes.
Yet, I have support from my family, friends, and some peers who encourage me to put up a good
fight in reaching my goal. I am a student that has gone through so much to get here, where I am.
There were times that I had strong feelings that I would never be in college, just because of the
negative energy I forced upon myself. Since pre–K, I have had this problem that if I can't do
something I just give up, and stop trying. I still have this problem, but I have learned to get a control
on it. The biggest problem was graduating from high school. I never thought that I would ever
graduate. But I knew, as a student, I should at least try and show my teachers that I am putting effort.
And now, I'm in college, studying pre–med, and hoping to become either a pediatrician, or a NFL
Doctor. Growing up as a daughter to a single mom, was, I think, the best experience ever. I was, and
am still, very spoiled. I always had everything that I ever wanted. And

My Definition of Success Essay example
"Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value."
– Albert Einstein ––
My personal definition would not include "stuff" at all. No one will care (and neither will you)
what kind of car your drove or how big your house was when you're on your deathbed. Your
thoughts will not be about your job, the office or how much money you made.
Personal success is defined by how content and enjoyable your life is. That is not to say that
challenges and disappointments aren't included in this. A rich, eventful and challenging life doing
what you enjoy and positively affecting others seems to me to be just about right. Find a job you
love and you'll never work another day in your life. I know I won't. In my...show more content...
Past, present and future are all important to keep in perspective. Looking back and not having regrets
is extremely satisfying. Your current situation and your contentment with it are also very important,
and having goals and milestones to work toward in the future keeps you motivated and keeps life
interesting and challenging.
In this age in which we live, success is generally measured by the amount of money you earn, or
the amount of wealth or power or number of promotions you've accumulated. I find that the older I
grow, the more I view the people who are most happy and content with their lives as the most
successful. Rich, poor or in between, they've tended to treat life as a journey, not a final destination.
They took that trip when they were 25 even though they really couldn't afford it, they ordered the
$55 bottle of wine with their filet because they knew that even though it was expensive it would
enhance the meal so much more than water would. They took a chance on a start–up company,
moved to Europe or Asia and experienced things that most people only dream about. If they managed
to grow wealthy from the experience, so much the better. As long as moderation with most things is
practiced, things won't spin out of control.
Bottom line rules for a successful life:
Always try new things.
Listen twice as much as you talk.
Travel as much as you can comfortably afford.
Faith and family always come first –

Essay about What Does It Mean to be an Adult?
There are many factors that constitute being an adult. An adult is much more than turning the age of
18. The definition in the dictionary states an adult means being completely grown: fully developed
and mature. I think there is much more that defines an adult. In the United States an adult is
considered to be someone who takes responsibility of themselves and their actions. An adult has
stability in their life and is able to take care of themselves physically, mentally, financially and
emotionally. In other countries and cultures there definition of an adult differs. Adults are unique in
many ways. Every person is an entity having their own identity, thought process, and way they see
things. We all have different morals and...show more content...
As a young child, education is crucial for survival skills. Your education begins when you are an
infant. Your parents teach you your first step to talking by babbling at you and making funny
sounds. In grade school, teachers educate you to compute basic math facts and learning to read and
write. During your high school years, you obtain an education to prepare you for college. Some high
school students prepare themselves learning a vocational trait. Education is a privilege and a
necessity.
Originally from Lindeman, E. (1926). The Meaning of Adult Education. New York: New Republic, 6.
"Education is life––not a mere preparation for an unknown kind of future living...The whole of life is
learning; therefore, education can have no ending. This new venture is called adult education––not
because it is confined to adults but because adulthood, maturity defines its limits." (Lindeman,
E.1926p.6) Adult Education is the practice and teaching of adults. The purpose of adult education
is to significantly help humankind by properly preparing adults to more effectively, efficaciously,
realistically, and wisely line the epochal markers in earthly existence. Lindeman believed it is a
broad and grand purpose. Adult education is implemented for a purpose and takes place in a
formal, organized setting. The adult learning process can take place in a classroom, the workplace,
college or university. There are various reasons why one may choose to become an adult

The definition of photography means the process or art of producing images of objects on sensitized
surfaces. To me, photography means to capture the moments that are especially special to you and
your feelings. So basically pictures containing feelings and memories.
I first discovered photography when my mother brought a professional camera, the Canon EOS
Rebel SL1. The original purpose of the purchase was to take pictures of the adventures that my
family do together and take pictures of our troop, our scout mates. When I first grab the camera, I
started to take pictures. Furnitures, trees, flowers, and basically everything around the house. I

What is Economics? Essay
Many people think that economics is about money. Well, to some extent this is true. Economics has
a lot to do with money: with how much money people are paid; how much they spend: what it costs
to buy various items; how much money firms earn; how much money there is in total in the
economy. But despite the large number of areas in which our lives are concerned with money,
economics is more than just the study of money.
It is concerned with:
В·The production of goods and services: how much the economy produces; what particular
combination of goods and services; how much each firm produces; what techniques of production
they use; how many people they employ.
В·The consumption of goods and services: how much the population as a...show more content...
There are three types of resources:
В·Human resources: labour The labour force is limited both in number and in skills.
В·Natural resources: land and raw materials The world's land area is limited, as are its raw materials.
В·Manufactures resources: capital
All inputs into production that have themselves been produced: e.g. factories, machines and tools.
One must bear in mind that our wants are virtually unlimited, while the resources available to
satisfy these wants are limited. In other words when society demands more of a product than can
actually be produced to fulfil those wants we have a problem of scarcity. An example of this would
be the OPEC oil price shocks between 1973 and 1980. Yes, it is true that the price of oil rose and
some individuals used substitutes but the economies of oil importing countries like Germany and
Japan fell because OPEC now had more buying power since they had the control over a scarce
resource. We can therefore think of oil as having become scarcer in economic terms when its price
rose.
Earlier I stated that economics is concerned with consumption and production. We can look at it in
the terms of demand and supply. It is simply the quantity of a good buyers wish to purchase at each
conceivable price. Three factors determine demand:
В·Desire
В·Willingness to pay
В·Ability to pay
Whilst supply is the quantity of good sellers wish to sell at each conceivable price. Supply is

What Is Religion? Essay
What is religion? Each person's definition of religion is different. Each person's faith is different.
This is a question that has been asked for centuries, and regardless of the answer given there is no
right or wrong answer. Religion can be defined as a group of people who have shared beliefs who
feel their life has purpose or meaning. This feeling or belief that their life has meaning can come
from outside of themselves, as well as within. Taking this one step further, these shared beliefs put
into action in the form of worship, can be easily identified because they happen regularly. It can be
said the Primal religions were in fact not religions. Some may argue Confucianism is not a religion.

They are teachings learned by previous generations then passed down, they are not always
actions. The fifth feature of religion is grace. Grace is defined by Smith as "the belief and
assurance that reality is on our side and can be counted on." Lastly there is mystery. For this there
is no exact definition, but it is all of what a religion cannot explain, it is all that the human mind
cannot grasp, it is the certain "higher power" that religion offers. Of these six features, there are
three that are present in most all religions, they are: authority, tradition, and mystery. Authority,
tradition, and mystery further explore and define religion when looking specifically at Primal
Religions, Confucianism, and Taoism. Primal Religions are often mistaken to be the religion of the
primitive man, often thought to be unintelligent. There is a definition of "primal" that is better
suited than unintelligent or primitive. Primal in terms of religion, refers to the lack of exposure to
technology, it is not "knowing" the state of consciousness given to many by the technological
environment. Primal religions preceded organized religion as we know it today by thousands of
years, in some cases millions, but are still present in the world today; we now call them tribal
religions. Within primal religions there are people who are knowledgeable about life, who are

Definition Essay On Happiness
According to the Dictionary, "happiness is the mental or emotional state of well being which can be
defined by others. A pleasurable or satisfying experience.". Of course that's true, the feeling of
happiness is what it's scientifically defined as, but happiness is much more than that. Happiness
could be a certain sound, a smell, even feeling a certain piece of clothing or a thick warm blanket.
People spend hours even years trying to work for what they think is happiness. They work for hours
to get large amounts of money, but they never find the happiness their looking for. That's because
happiness isn't materialistic, happiness isn't something you can buy with expensive items. Even

Knowing they're happy for whatever reason is where i find my happiness. The feeling of
happiness starts off with just a simple look at something or even someone you love. Having the
feeling of happiness in your heart that slowly creeps up until you're smiling for what seems like
ages. True happiness doesn't last for seconds or even minutes, it feels as though it lasts a life time.
People tend to feel the most happiness in their daily lives rather than happiness over all. For
instance, if someone opens the door for you, does something outrageous, tells a funny story or
simply reacts kindly to you, you can experience happiness. Laughing at someones joke can cause
you to feel happy even for just a moment. Another definition of happiness in our daily lives is self
appreciation such as, getting that new raise, getting an A on a test or even getting into the college
you want. These examples all cause happiness in different but still rather large ways. We seem to
think that happiness is so difficult to come by, we focus so hard on what happiness is that we don't
even realize the simple things in life that are truly making a difference. We can become significantly
happy without even noticing. Although happiness seems like it's hard to find it's not all that
difficult. What's hard to come by is the feeling of genuine happiness ; genuine happiness is what
people truly look for. Over all happiness isn't about being rich or having the most expensive items

Descriptive Essay About Happiness
The wind is ripping at our hair, both of us are panting to get some air into our lungs and
throughout our bodies. The strain is almost too much to bear, but we finally make it. We reached
the top of the hill and I won against my friend in our bike race through the city. Feeling like I might
suffocate and fall off my bike may not seem like something that can make me happy, but if it's with
my best friend, anything can make me happy. Happiness to me is being able to have fun and enjoy
small and big moments with the people you love. It should come easily without having to put much
effort into achieving it. Happiness should not be something I must chase, but it should float onto my
lap while I'm sitting with my feet kicked up. The greatest example of being filled with happiness
would be the day I rode through the cities with my most beloved friend.
This happiness filled drive through the cities started in the car. On a warm June morning, Sabrina
picked me up from my house and we set off on the road. I made a special playlist to dance and
sing our lungs out the full hour and a half drive up to the twin cities. We had not seen each other
for quite some time so this drive was especially important to catch up on our lives and some juicy
gossip. This is one of my favorite things to do with Sabrina because even when all we do is sit and
do nothing, I find that I enjoy myself to the fullest extent. Sitting there listening to my friend talk
about how annoying a classmate is, or how she tried a new food just puts a smile on my face.
Singing until we're out of breath and taking the time to listen to all the events in our lives is one of
the things I loved to do and I valued all the things we shared with one another.
We then began to transition our car ride into a bike ride. Before arriving at Fort Snelling to start
biking, we decided to stop by Caribou Coffee for a quick snack. We drove right past Caribou Coffee
for two to three miles before we realized the GPS was screaming at us to make a U–turn. Eventually,
Sabrina and I got our coffees and sat down to talk about where we'd like to bike. We decided upon
following the trails by Fort Snelling to Minnehaha Falls. After downing our drinks, and driving to

Essay on Definitions of Health
Definitions of health
It is fairly difficult to define health as there are no agreements between scholars. This is why many
sociologists focus their research on the different issues and problems of ill health.
Positive definition of health: positive health looks at the physical, emotional, intellectual aspects of a
person's wellbeing. This is in the way that they do not have any diseases or ailments.
An example of the positive definition of health in a health and social care is a nurse in who is

An example of holistic health could be that a psychologist's client may have bipolar disorder and
the psychologist would still focus on all of the other aspects of their client's life and not just on the
symptoms the client is experiencing of bipolar disorder.
Holistic health looks as everything as a whole and never different aspects of health individually.
World Health Organisation definition of health: the World Health Organisation defines health as "not
merely an absence of disease, but a state of complete physical, mental, spiritual and social
well–being." (2013 K Pritchett Class Notes)
An example of health defined by the World Health Organisation in a health and social care setting
could be that in order for a patient of a doctors surgery to be healthy they would have to have a
complete state of physical, mental, spiritual and social well–being. This means that if a patient was
in a wheel chair they could never be seen as healthy as they do not have a complete state of physical
well–being.
The World Health Organisation thinks that people must have all complete aspects to be completely
healthy.
The Clinical Iceberg

not clearly defined, or not typically thought of as normal or realistic, and it can be difficult to

The word abstract is derived from the Latin word "abstractus" meaning drawn away. So, the word

Definition Essay – Defining Freedom
Is it possible to define freedom? To define freedom is more than a difficult task, but perhaps easier
than one might imagine if not overanalyzed. Given ample time to consider the task, however, a
simple, sufficient definition can present itself: freedom is the ability to choose, for any creature
living life in any place in any time. There is no greater truth to the statement, and no underlying
meanings; freedom is simply the ability to choose.
So one might ask, "If this ability to choose applies to all creatures in all places in all times, why can
freedom only be defined in the context of the specific creature whose definition of freedom is
concerned?" That is simple. Freedom is...show more content...
A supernatural being (I'll refer to the Christian "God") could have created the universe in which we
live, or it could have been constructed by chance. Neither view can be proven, and neither can prove
the other wrong, and there is no law saying that a combination of the two cannot be the reason for
our existence. If God is our omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent creator, the question becomes
not who or what we came from, but where He came from. Divine creation may offer some
answers, but it is not an explanation. There are no observable effects that distinguish its product
from a "naturally" originated universe. Not only is it unobservable and incomprehensible, but it
is also supposed to be performed by an entity whose own origin simply reintroduces the mystery
that it was his function to eliminate. Thus the arguments of origin are infinitely looped and
predestined to be inconclusive. Instead of looking that direction, I would suggest that life is very
scientific and spiritual, and therefore any and all interpretations of origin should comply with such
a simple definition for freedom. This leads back to the question, "what is this ability to choose
derived from?" Well, as I stated previously, freedom can only be identified and defined within the
contexts of each life form to be considered, so perhaps freedom is derived from the limits of each

Definition Essay On Slang Word
Everyone has a word or phrase that purely defines who they are, how they speak or the way they

she decided to wear goggles and a mouth guard. I do not think I can't remember a time that I

when dogs do something funny but of course not videos of dogs hurting themselves. Now, for the
last example of a visual detail that helps explain "LOLOL" is a classic. Taylor Bacon, my best

Team players are the type of people with a tremendous personality who contribute and motivate

When a team player gives time to other members of the team, other team members hold him in
high praise. This will affect team members putting forth additional effort. Sometimes team players
will contribute money if it helps the team reach its goal. Overall, team players contribute their
ideas, time, and money to bring the morale of the whole team to the highest possible level. A
tremendous personality and contribution will lead to positive motivation on a team. Motivation
is the key to why team players try so viciously. A team player motivates the people around him/her
by always having a positive attitude. Being recognized as a leader, he/she must set forth a good
example. There are two ways a team player can show motivation. They are always striving for
mission accomplishment and constantly wanting the team to be successful. A team player strives
for mission accomplishment by showing no concern for his/her own individual needs. This will
make the team want to work together as one until a particular task is accomplished. As a result, the
team will be successful and show great pride and dignity in whatever missions that may arise in the
future. Therefore, a team that achieves mission accomplishment and team success will produce
many team players where everyone is a leader. Team players can be found in different types of
groups. They are in the military service, on sports teams, in the work place, and inside of families.
In the military, they are usually the leaders

"Genre," in the most generic definition, takes the meaning "kind; sort; style" (OED). Prior to the

he can either take another personality as Homer does, or speak in his own person, unchanged – or he

word and the Greek idea converged. The Greek root–word, like its Latin relative, refers to a clan or
race of people, or to offspring (Liddell & Scott Lexicon). This sense of familial interconnectedness
is essential to genre theory. Frye writes:
It is clear that criticism cannot be a systematic study unless there is a quality in literature which
enables it to be so. We have to adopt the hypothesis, then, that just as there is an order of nature
behind the natural sciences, so literature is not a piled aggregate of "works," but an order of words
(Frye, 17).
In conceiving of literature as a unified "order of words," Frye requires a system of genres which
will encompass the entire medium, expressing each the entire state of literature at a given moment,
all its bloodlines.
One might extend this idea of kinship to objects within any given medium, as in literature each
novel bears a relation to other novels, or across several media, as a Western film may bear relation to
a similar comic–book or radio drama. From this first approach, it makes more sense to think about
genres in a medium or the genres of a medium, than to think of genre as a medium. Based on the
questions raised in Aristotle's discussion, one might assemble a definition of genre more

Essay on Defining Social Studies
When defining social studies the best definition comes from the National Council for the Social
Studies (NCSS). Even though "the 'official' definition is somewhat misleading because authorities
in the field have long debated the dimensions of an appropriate definition of social studies"
(Pearson Allyn Bacon Prentice Hall, 2013). The NCSS defines social studies as the "study of
political, economic, cultural, and environmental aspects of societies" (NCSS, 1988). There may
never be a definition of social studies that is accepted unanimously, but this one seems to be accurate.
Social studies textbooks should support the specific states standards. Although the author of this
paper resides in New York State thetextbook used is Georgia based....show more content...
Activities are defined as "anything students are expected to do, beyond getting input through reading
or listening, in order to learn, practice, apply, evaluate, or in any other way respond to curricular
content" (Brophy & Alleman, 1991). This textbook does not have any authentic activities. It is
important for students to see and understand the importance of social studies. As technology
advances there is a real need for authentic activities. Students need to relate to the subject. The only
attempt made in this text was in Unit 2, lesson 1 when the students had to add to the maps
geography. This textbook is not good for kinesthetic learners.
Integration of Other Subject This textbook has many areas where the educator can integrate the
lesson in with other subjects. The economics lesson (unit 3, lesson 4) includes a lot of mathematical
problems. These problems can be done during math. The map lesson can be crossed over in art. The
students can make their maps in art, bring it to math and work on the grids. In unit 4, lesson 1 they
talk about facts and opinions regarding George Washington, John Hancock, and Benjamin Franklin.
This could be crossed over into ELA. The students must read sentences and tell which ones are facts.
Integrating "language in social studies courses may be an appropriate placement for English
language learners who are preparing to enter mainstream classes" (Short, 1994). Integrating subject
benefits everyone in

Example Of Definition Essay

  • 1. Lifestyles Essay examples Lifestyles Introduction If you look up the word Lifestyle in the dictionary you will find the definition "a way of life or style of living that reflects the attitudes and values of a person or group". However this definition does not pertain much to marketing, or consumer purchasing habits. Another definition that would be of more relevance and importance to marketers is "Lifestyle refers to a pattern of consumption, of how he or she spends their time and money". A lifestyle marketing perspective shows how people sort themselves into groups on the basis of activities they enjoy, how they spend their free time, and how they spend their disposable income. This gives marketers a chance for market segmentation strategies. Market...show more content... Psychographics is basically the separation of customers into categories depending on different choices in consumption activities, and product usage. Marketers were always fascinated by the intangibles of consumer demand but it wasn't until the 1960s when social upheaval splintered the mass market beyond anything recognizable that marketers invented a way to measure those intangibles. However despite being around for over 30 years or so Psychographics is still one of the least understood concepts in marketing research. Many marketers consider demographics and psychographics as two separate things when in actuality psychographics was developed to compliment demographics. The term first appeared in Grey Advertising's publication "Grey Matter" in 1965. It was hailed as a way for researchers to quantify the slippery field of consumer psychology. A psycho graphic study combines consumers' measurable demographic characteristics with the more abstract aspects of attitudes, opinions, and interests. Demographic, purchasing media, and psycho graphic information is coded from surveys, thrown together and analyzed until some groups with shared characteristics are can be distinguished from all other groups. • 2. Essay about Health and Wellbeing In society today, there is an extensive range of definitions of health and wellbeing which can be seen as both positive and negative. A Holistic view can also be identified and defined. These definitions of health have changed over time and will carry on changing within the future. According to where a family lives or their social class everyone will have different meanings and views of health and wellbeing. This may be due to what one person perceives as being healthy as another person may not. Channel 4 learning (no date) describes that a positive view of health can be seen as when a person is more likely to achieve and sustain physical fitness from exercising and are mentally stable. Therefor a negative view can be described when a...show more content... According to Floyd, Mimms and Yelding (2008) Webster's Dictionary defines health as "the condition of being sound in body, mind and spirit... freedom from physical disease or pain." This definition has very much taken the holistic view. Wellbeing is a term in which reflects on the positive emphasis on health and can be broken down into six aspects know as environmental, physical, social, emotional, mental and spiritual. To achieve a high balance of wellbeing it is vital that a person is able to balance and take care of each aspect effectively. Underdown (2007) implies that in 1948 the World Health Organization(WHO) defines health as 'a state of complete physical, mental and social well–being and not just the absence of disease or infirmity.' This definition took a holistic view as it mentions mental and social wellbeing and it was supported as it focused on a person being healthy rather than not being ill. However, this definition has been widely criticized. Seedhouse (1986) believed that for someone to be in perfect state of health is unachievable and unrealistic. There is a wide range of major genetic, social and environmental factors which influence the health and wellbeing of children in today's society. According to The Marmot Review (2011) the more deprived the area or district which a child lives in, the more likely it is to have social and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Defining Myself Essay Sometimes a person may feel that they have no purpose in life. Finding out who you are just takes the time of sitting down and thinking of the importance in your life. Who am I? I am Mercedes Kimberly Kingston, and I am a person with different personalities, characteristics, and identities. The many ways, in which I identify myself, in fact, are the ways that define who I am. My Identity is something only I can fully define. I have a little brother, which makes me a sister; I have two loving parents, which makes me a daughter; I am in college studying medicine, which makes me a student; and I have wonderful friends in desperate need of support, which makes me a wonderful best friend. Before anything, I am a big sister to...show more content... It is seen as an essential part of learning and using what you learn in class. But when you get loads of class work and have very little time to finish it, then it becomes an unnecessary burden. Yet, sometimes, for me, it is the fact that I procrastinate that prevents me from completing a task. For college student, like myself who is working to pay for college, large amounts of class work usually brings lots of stress and fear of not being able to get good grades in many of my classes. Yet, I have support from my family, friends, and some peers who encourage me to put up a good fight in reaching my goal. I am a student that has gone through so much to get here, where I am. There were times that I had strong feelings that I would never be in college, just because of the negative energy I forced upon myself. Since pre–K, I have had this problem that if I can't do something I just give up, and stop trying. I still have this problem, but I have learned to get a control on it. The biggest problem was graduating from high school. I never thought that I would ever graduate. But I knew, as a student, I should at least try and show my teachers that I am putting effort. And now, I'm in college, studying pre–med, and hoping to become either a pediatrician, or a NFL Doctor. Growing up as a daughter to a single mom, was, I think, the best experience ever. I was, and am still, very spoiled. I always had everything that I ever wanted. And Get more content on HelpWriting.net

My Definition of Success Essay example "Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value." – Albert Einstein –– My personal definition would not include "stuff" at all. No one will care (and neither will you) what kind of car your drove or how big your house was when you're on your deathbed. Your thoughts will not be about your job, the office or how much money you made. Personal success is defined by how content and enjoyable your life is. That is not to say that challenges and disappointments aren't included in this. A rich, eventful and challenging life doing what you enjoy and positively affecting others seems to me to be just about right. Find a job you love and you'll never work another day in your life. I know I won't. In my...show more content... Past, present and future are all important to keep in perspective. Looking back and not having regrets is extremely satisfying. Your current situation and your contentment with it are also very important, and having goals and milestones to work toward in the future keeps you motivated and keeps life interesting and challenging. In this age in which we live, success is generally measured by the amount of money you earn, or the amount of wealth or power or number of promotions you've accumulated. I find that the older I grow, the more I view the people who are most happy and content with their lives as the most successful. Rich, poor or in between, they've tended to treat life as a journey, not a final destination. They took that trip when they were 25 even though they really couldn't afford it, they ordered the $55 bottle of wine with their filet because they knew that even though it was expensive it would enhance the meal so much more than water would. They took a chance on a start–up company, moved to Europe or Asia and experienced things that most people only dream about. If they managed to grow wealthy from the experience, so much the better. As long as moderation with most things is practiced, things won't spin out of control. Bottom line rules for a successful life: Always try new things. Listen twice as much as you talk. Travel as much as you can comfortably afford. Faith and family always come first – Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The definition in the dictionary states an adult means being completely grown: fully developed and mature. I think there is much more that defines an adult. In the United States an adult is considered to be someone who takes responsibility of themselves and their actions. Economics has a lot to do with money: with how much money people are paid; how much they spend: what it costs to buy various items; how much money firms earn; how much money there is in total in the economy. But despite the large number of areas in which our lives are concerned with money, economics is more than just the study of money. It is concerned with: В·The production of goods and services: how much the economy produces; what particular combination of goods and services; how much each firm produces; what techniques of production they use; how many people they employ. В·Manufactures resources: capital All inputs into production that have themselves been produced: e.g. factories, machines and tools. One must bear in mind that our wants are virtually unlimited, while the resources available to satisfy these wants are limited. In other words when society demands more of a product than can actually be produced to fulfil those wants we have a problem of scarcity. An example of this would be the OPEC oil price shocks between 1973 and 1980. Yes, it is true that the price of oil rose and some individuals used substitutes but the economies of oil importing countries like Germany and Japan fell because OPEC now had more buying power since they had the control over a scarce resource. We can therefore think of oil as having become scarcer in economic terms when its price rose. Earlier I stated that economics is concerned with consumption and production. We can look at it in the terms of demand and supply. It is simply the quantity of a good buyers wish to purchase at each conceivable price. This is a question that has been asked for centuries, and regardless of the answer given there is no right or wrong answer. Religion can be defined as a group of people who have shared beliefs who feel their life has purpose or meaning. This feeling or belief that their life has meaning can come from outside of themselves, as well as within. Taking this one step further, these shared beliefs put into action in the form of worship, can be easily identified because they happen regularly. Grace is defined by Smith as "the belief and assurance that reality is on our side and can be counted on." Lastly there is mystery. For this there is no exact definition, but it is all of what a religion cannot explain, it is all that the human mind cannot grasp, it is the certain "higher power" that religion offers. Of these six features, there are three that are present in most all religions, they are: authority, tradition, and mystery. Authority, tradition, and mystery further explore and define religion when looking specifically at Primal Religions, Confucianism, and Taoism. Primal Religions are often mistaken to be the religion of the primitive man, often thought to be unintelligent. There is a definition of "primal" that is better suited than unintelligent or primitive. Primal in terms of religion, refers to the lack of exposure to technology, it is not "knowing" the state of consciousness given to many by the technological environment. Primal religions preceded organized religion as we know it today by thousands of years, in some cases millions, but are still present in the world today; we now call them tribal religions. True happiness doesn't last for seconds or even minutes, it feels as though it lasts a life time. People tend to feel the most happiness in their daily lives rather than happiness over all. For instance, if someone opens the door for you, does something outrageous, tells a funny story or simply reacts kindly to you, you can experience happiness. Laughing at someones joke can cause you to feel happy even for just a moment. Another definition of happiness in our daily lives is self appreciation such as, getting that new raise, getting an A on a test or even getting into the college you want. These examples all cause happiness in different but still rather large ways. We seem to think that happiness is so difficult to come by, we focus so hard on what happiness is that we don't even realize the simple things in life that are truly making a difference. We can become significantly happy without even noticing. Although happiness seems like it's hard to find it's not all that difficult. What's hard to come by is the feeling of genuine happiness ; genuine happiness is what people truly look for. Over all happiness isn't about being rich or having the most expensive items Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Descriptive Essay About Happiness The wind is ripping at our hair, both of us are panting to get some air into our lungs and throughout our bodies. The strain is almost too much to bear, but we finally make it. We reached the top of the hill and I won against my friend in our bike race through the city. Feeling like I might suffocate and fall off my bike may not seem like something that can make me happy, but if it's with my best friend, anything can make me happy. Happiness to me is being able to have fun and enjoy small and big moments with the people you love. It should come easily without having to put much effort into achieving it. Happiness should not be something I must chase, but it should float onto my lap while I'm sitting with my feet kicked up. The greatest example of being filled with happiness would be the day I rode through the cities with my most beloved friend. This happiness filled drive through the cities started in the car. On a warm June morning, Sabrina picked me up from my house and we set off on the road. I made a special playlist to dance and sing our lungs out the full hour and a half drive up to the twin cities. We had not seen each other for quite some time so this drive was especially important to catch up on our lives and some juicy gossip. This is one of my favorite things to do with Sabrina because even when all we do is sit and do nothing, I find that I enjoy myself to the fullest extent. Sitting there listening to my friend talk about how annoying a classmate is, or how she tried a new food just puts a smile on my face. Singing until we're out of breath and taking the time to listen to all the events in our lives is one of the things I loved to do and I valued all the things we shared with one another. We then began to transition our car ride into a bike ride. Before arriving at Fort Snelling to start biking, we decided to stop by Caribou Coffee for a quick snack. We drove right past Caribou Coffee for two to three miles before we realized the GPS was screaming at us to make a U–turn. Eventually, Sabrina and I got our coffees and sat down to talk about where we'd like to bike. We decided upon following the trails by Fort Snelling to Minnehaha Falls. After downing our drinks, and driving to Fort Snelling, the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Essay on Definitions of Health Definitions of health It is fairly difficult to define health as there are no agreements between scholars. This is why many sociologists focus their research on the different issues and problems of ill health. Positive definition of health: positive health looks at the physical, emotional, intellectual aspects of a person's wellbeing. This is in the way that they do not have any diseases or ailments. An example of the positive definition of health in a health and social care is a nurse in who is working in a hospital can say to one of their patients that have recently started exercising to become more 'healthier' 'you look very healthy'. An example of holistic health could be that a psychologist's client may have bipolar disorder and the psychologist would still focus on all of the other aspects of their client's life and not just on the symptoms the client is experiencing of bipolar disorder. World Health Organisation definition of health: the World Health Organisation defines health as "not merely an absence of disease, but a state of complete physical, mental, spiritual and social well–being." (2013 K Pritchett Class Notes) An example of health defined by the World Health Organisation in a health and social care setting could be that in order for a patient of a doctors surgery to be healthy they would have to have a complete state of physical, mental, spiritual and social well–being. This means that if a patient was in a wheel chair they could never be seen as healthy as they do not have a complete state of physical well–being. The World Health Organisation thinks that people must have all complete aspects to be completely healthy. Extended Definition Essay Examples Extended Definition Essay: Defining the Concept of Abstract "Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable." is a popular quote adapted by the street artist known as Bansky to specifically talk about art. It is especially true of abstract art, which oftentimes depicts events that can be uncomfortable to discuss or is confusing. If something is abstract, then it is something that is not clearly defined, or not typically thought of as normal or realistic, and it can be difficult to understand. If something is abstract, then it is not normal, realistic, clear or easily understandable. The word abstract is derived from the Latin word "abstractus" meaning drawn away. • 15. Definition Essay Definition Essay – Defining Freedom Is it possible to define freedom? To define freedom is more than a difficult task, but perhaps easier than one might imagine if not overanalyzed. Given ample time to consider the task, however, a simple, sufficient definition can present itself: freedom is the ability to choose, for any creature living life in any place in any time. There is no greater truth to the statement, and no underlying meanings; freedom is simply the ability to choose. So one might ask, "If this ability to choose applies to all creatures in all places in all times, why can freedom only be defined in the context of the specific creature whose definition of freedom is concerned?" That is simple. Freedom is...show more content... A supernatural being (I'll refer to the Christian "God") could have created the universe in which we live, or it could have been constructed by chance. Neither view can be proven, and neither can prove the other wrong, and there is no law saying that a combination of the two cannot be the reason for our existence. If God is our omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent creator, the question becomes not who or what we came from, but where He came from. Divine creation may offer some answers, but it is not an explanation. There are no observable effects that distinguish its product from a "naturally" originated universe. Not only is it unobservable and incomprehensible, but it is also supposed to be performed by an entity whose own origin simply reintroduces the mystery that it was his function to eliminate. Thus the arguments of origin are infinitely looped and predestined to be inconclusive. Instead of looking that direction, I would suggest that life is very scientific and spiritual, and therefore any and all interpretations of origin should comply with such a simple definition for freedom. This leads back to the question, "what is this ability to choose derived from?" Well, as I stated previously, freedom can only be identified and defined within the contexts of each life form to be considered, so perhaps freedom is derived from the limits of each Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 17. Definition Essay On Slang Word Everyone has a word or phrase that purely defines who they are, how they speak or the way they act. In this case, the slang word that defines me most is "LOLOL". Nearly everyone in America is aware of the slang word as "LOL," which stands for laughing out loud. "LOLOL" means close to the exact same thing as the slang word "LOL" but it represents a continuation of someone, or multiple people expressing their laughter by "lots of laughing out loud,". There are multiple definitions for this slang word, but the way Internet Slang defines this word is the one that relates most to the meaning I believe in. According to Urban Dictionary, the definition of the word "LOLOL" is when one may not only suck a penis but talk while doing it. This definition...show more content... This slang word can be used through dialogue as well as a visual, sound, smell, taste, and touch. One of the most recent visual encounters of using the word "LOLOL" was when my friend Taylor Bruck was playing intramural basketball. Intramural sports are when people get teams together to play one another in a non–competitive fashion but, Taylor tried making this very competitive so she decided to wear goggles and a mouth guard. I do not think I can't remember a time that I laughed that hard. Since Taylor is one of my good friends I able to laugh at her without offending her. Another visual detail that always seems to have me laughing out loud is when I watch videos of dogs playing. I love watching videos of dogs that are doing trick and end up failing or when dogs do something funny but of course not videos of dogs hurting themselves. Now, for the last example of a visual detail that helps explain "LOLOL" is a classic. Taylor Bacon, my best friend and I live by a lake named Lake Ladue. Last summer we both decided to go canoeing so when we went we could rent out a canoe for two hours. Our trip on the lake was going smoothly besides the fact we could not make the canoe go straight. We had the hardest time to move in the water and before you know it time was almost up. When we arrived back at shore, the guy who was helping us started laughing at us because we have been rowing the canoe backward the whole time. The dictionary defines team players as a number of people associated together in work or activity. Team players are the type of people with a tremendous personality who contribute and motivate themselves in many areas. They include the military, sports, work, and families. This will affect team members putting forth additional effort. Sometimes team players will contribute money if it helps the team reach its goal. Overall, team players contribute their ideas, time, and money to bring the morale of the whole team to the highest possible level. A tremendous personality and contribution will lead to positive motivation on a team. Motivation is the key to why team players try so viciously. A team player motivates the people around him/her by always having a positive attitude. Being recognized as a leader, he/she must set forth a good example. There are two ways a team player can show motivation. They are always striving for mission accomplishment and constantly wanting the team to be successful. A team player strives for mission accomplishment by showing no concern for his/her own individual needs. This will make the team want to work together as one until a particular task is accomplished. As a result, the team will be successful and show great pride and dignity in whatever missions that may arise in the future. Therefore, a team that achieves mission accomplishment and team success will produce many team players where everyone is a leader. Team players can be found in different types of groups. • 19. Definition Essay Definition Essay – Genre "Genre," in the most generic definition, takes the meaning "kind; sort; style" (OED). Prior to the term's inception, the notion of genre in the study of media emerged in The Poetics, with Aristotle's discussion of the mode or manner of imitation in poetry. Of this Aristotle writes, "the medium being the same, and the objects [of imitation] the same, the poet may imitate by narration – in which case he can either take another personality as Homer does, or speak in his own person, unchanged – or he may present all his characters as living and moving before us" (Aristotle, 53). Here lies the distinction between epic, lyric, and drama, a distinction based solely in convention, the usage of the medium,...show more content... It is a French word imported directly into the English language, derived from the Latin "genus" (the stem is gener–), itself derived from the Greek "genos" (OED). Having evolved separately, the Greek word and the Greek idea converged. The Greek root–word, like its Latin relative, refers to a clan or race of people, or to offspring (Liddell & Scott Lexicon). This sense of familial interconnectedness is essential to genre theory. Frye writes: It is clear that criticism cannot be a systematic study unless there is a quality in literature which enables it to be so. We have to adopt the hypothesis, then, that just as there is an order of nature behind the natural sciences, so literature is not a piled aggregate of "works," but an order of words (Frye, 17). In conceiving of literature as a unified "order of words," Frye requires a system of genres which will encompass the entire medium, expressing each the entire state of literature at a given moment, all its bloodlines. One might extend this idea of kinship to objects within any given medium, as in literature each novel bears a relation to other novels, or across several media, as a Western film may bear relation to a similar comic–book or radio drama. From this first approach, it makes more sense to think about genres in a medium or the genres of a medium, than to think of genre as a medium. Based on the questions raised in Aristotle's discussion, one might assemble a definition of genre more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Essay on Defining Social Studies When defining social studies the best definition comes from the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS). Even though "the 'official' definition is somewhat misleading because authorities in the field have long debated the dimensions of an appropriate definition of social studies" (Pearson Allyn Bacon Prentice Hall, 2013). The NCSS defines social studies as the "study of political, economic, cultural, and environmental aspects of societies" (NCSS, 1988). As technology advances there is a real need for authentic activities. Students need to relate to the subject. The only attempt made in this text was in Unit 2, lesson 1 when the students had to add to the maps geography. This textbook is not good for kinesthetic learners. Integration of Other Subject This textbook has many areas where the educator can integrate the lesson in with other subjects. The economics lesson (unit 3, lesson 4) includes a lot of mathematical problems. These problems can be done during math. The map lesson can be crossed over in art. The students can make their maps in art, bring it to math and work on the grids. In unit 4, lesson 1 they talk about facts and opinions regarding George Washington, John Hancock, and Benjamin Franklin. This could be crossed over into ELA. The students must read sentences and tell which ones are facts.
