Professional Development . Reflection On My Career Included,
Professional Development Reflection on my career included, taking a look at the reason I choose nursing as a profession. Working in a
retirement home for a few years prior to deciding to become a nurse helped to make the decision. I worked in food services for a posh
retirement home, that also had a small locked unit on the first floor for dementia and Alzheimer's patients. Everyday I was exposed to these
residents I enjoyed learning and helping them. This made my decision an easy one. Seeing the difference the nurses made everyday, spending
time with the residents and having the knowledge to help them, was a huge reminder that I was making the right choice. I remained in awe of
the skills that the nurses possessed and how involved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most I could commit to my studies has been one or two courses at a time, therefore, I'm putting more energy towards completing it now.
The emergency specialty degree was very intriguing since it focused mainly on emergency based practice and on my preferred area of work.
Being able to I enjoy being able to spend my time working towards completing a personal goal while also learning about various emergency
based knowledge that will be helpful in my current position. In order to complete these courses I needed the help of my family and friends.
Being able to detach from the everyday responsibility of family and work to focus on my studies is a challenge. Despite that, I have been
lucky enough to allot some time each week to my course load. During night shifts I use the slow periods to study and write papers. My co–
workers are supportive as well to allow me time for breaks undisturbed to concentrate on my studies. Although work and home life can also
be hindrances when I must tend to the needs of my family or patients. Working near full time hours pushes the limitations further when I have
an assignment deadline. Unfortunately, I do not have the same amount of time to spend researching and focusing on the paper as I would
when I work less hours. As noted by Parse (1995) in module

There are nine specific ways to foster empowerment. Ken Hoffman didn't follow these rules and thus failed to produce a sense of competence
choice, impact value and security. The first rule that Ken Hoffman violated was articulating a clear vision and goals.
When Ruth Cummings was made the branch manager, she was told to make the store one of the best in the system. He failed to share the
vision of where the organization is going and how Ruth can contribute as an individual.
The second blunder caused by Mr. Hoffman was not fostering personal mastery experiences. By successfully accomplishing a task, defeating
an opponent, or resolving a problem, people develop a sense of mastery. Hoffman should have helped Ruth ... Show more content on

Analysis Of The Movie ' Fall Scene '
Kayana Waller Fall Scene Reflection Fund. of Directing Since I was the first shoot of the semester, Pre–production was a rushed process.
Some ideas that I had initially wanted were abandoned just because of the lack of time or resources. However, I think this was a helpful to my
shoot. When preparing the shot list, script, and lighting set–up, I planned minimalistically. When on set, my D.P and I added on to the plan,
instead of coming into the shoot overly ambitious. Also, we as a crew delegated tasks based on our strengths to make the shoot easier. Connor,
the D.P., took notes from me, and composed his own shot list, which I complete approved of. This is the case with my production designer,
Collin. On the set, delegating really helped us conserve time the most. Also, this allowed everyone to do their own thing, which also kept
energy and positivity high. Since it was such short notice, the actors and I came to a compromise about over the dialogue. Other than
extremely significant lines, about half of the dialogue was paraphrased. This benefited both the time constraint, and their ability to focus more
on their relationship to each other in the scene, as opposed to perfect quotation. The communication amongst the crew rather easy. Our pre–
production meeting was brief because we quickly discuss what our goal was for the scene and what our delegated tasks were. In times of
conflicting ideas, we quickly compromised or respectful turned them down. Subsequently, it was a

THE ART OF DELEGATION Essay
There is a limit to the amount of work that you can do on your own. There is only so much value that you can deliver to your company or
organization without the help of other people. If you are successful in your career, at some stage the demands on you will become greater than
you are able to cope with on your own. When this happens, you are forced to rely on the help of others, you are forced to delegate. Delegation
is a process by which a manager examines the various responsibilities and tasks at hand, and rather than assuming and completing those tasks
and responsibilities on his or her own, that manager decides to assign the work to other employees. Effective managers must be willing to
entrust a task, power or responsibility to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each policy advisor then has an administrative assistant to whom he or she can further delegate tasks if warranted. If not, the administrative
assistant is responsible to assisting the policy advisor in completing the task in order to satisfy the needs of the constituent or Arkansas citizen.
The process within our office illustrates how delegation is the downward transfer of formal authority from superior to subordinate. We all
realize that delegating involves working with an employee to establish goals, granting them sufficient authority and responsibility to achieve
the goals, often giving them substantial freedom in deciding how the goals will be achieved, remaining available as a resource to help them
achieve the goals, assessing their performance (the quality of their effort and attainment of the goals), addressing performance issues and/or
rewarding their performance.
Delegation is primarily about entrusting your authority to others. This means that they can act and initiate independently; and that they assume
responsibility with you for certain tasks. One of the main phobias about delegation is that by giving others authority, a manager loses control.
Even when you delegate the work, you still maintain the accountability. Ultimately, the supervisor retains responsibility for the attainment of
the goals, but

How To Be A Mn Conference Case Study
HOW TO BECOME A GOOD DELEGATE
It is difficult to be a competitor in a MUN conference. It can be overwhelming, especially for beginners and a lot of uncontrollable events can
happen. However, preparing yourself by getting the hang of necessary tasks such as making motions, speeches, and forming blocs, alliances...
can help you feel more confident when attending MUN. And to assist you through the initial difficulties, here are some things that you need to
consider:
Understanding the Rules of Procedure (RoP):
Memorizing the RoP is the most basic preparation you need to make when engaging yourself in MUN. Having a deep understanding of the
RoP allows delegates to act within a conference without any awkward occurrences. Furthermore, it can ... Show more content on

Consequently, strategizing also exists both before and during the conference. Both research and planning allows delegates to understand
carefully the situation and strategize accordingly.
Without these two factors, delegates would either find themselves unknowing of what to do due to the lack of research, or would take an
unfavorable course of action from the lack of careful planning.
While doing research, be it before the conference or observing during the conference, pay attention to:
Your country's own attributes (weaknesses/strengths)
Opponent country's attributes
Ally's attributes
How the situation affects each country
How the country's attributes can be used favorably
For planning and strategizing, consider the following:
What benefits would you gain if you align with/attack another country?
What sacrifices would you have to make to align with/attack another country?
Speeches
MUN is about collaborating and resolving issues together. As such, the speeches that you would make is not about taking down other
delegates' ideas, but is instead on convincing others to vote for and support you. In other words, MUN speeches are meant to be diplomatic,
not argumentative.
To make a good speech, delegates should:
Be clear
Be brief
Maintain diplomacy & avoid personal attacks
The Caucus
In a MUN conference, the most significant time period other than for speeches and debates is the caucus. This is because the caucus is used
for negotiating and forming

Developing and leading teams to achieve organisational goals and objectives
Understand the importance of leading teams to achieve organisational goals and objectives
Assess the effectiveness of own organisation in measuring team performance against organisation goals and objectives
In this section I will be assessing how the University and the Estates Office measure team performance against goals and objectives.
In my opinion the university at times struggles to measure team performance against its goals and objectives as I believe that the objectives
are too vague and are not always fully understood by the people who are meant to be achieving them. A lot of this I believe is down to the size
of the university and the very distinct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the Estates Office and around the University, there are numerous people who have spent their whole or at least a majority of their
careers within the University and are adverse to change, this can make them difficult to performance manage as they know the system and
have a least a perceived advantage of knowledge over the newer members of staff. The Estates office has a perceived, if not an actual issue,
with the performance management of some staff, this in turn creates more individual issues especially around Performance Development
Review (PDR) when certain members of staff have lost all faith in the review and the outcomes of these reviews. This all relates back to team
performance being managed and feedback being given in the correct manner.
Evaluate the role of leadership helping teams to achieve organisational goals and objectives
In this section, I will be looking at leadership and how leadership helps teams to achieve their and the organizations goals and objectives.
Within any successful team, you will find leaders, it need not be the manager, and it doesn't have to be the same person all the time, you only
have to look at any successful sports team to see that there are numerous leaders and within the team each person knows the role they have to
perform at any set moment and can change as the situation needs. This has been well explained in the Belbin Team Architecture.

Delegating Responsibility Essay
Learning Team Skills Exercise
This week, the Learning Team read and discussed the Skills Exercise at the end of Chapter 10 in the text. This exercise deals with learning
how to delegate, or assign authority, to another person in order to carry out specific duties. In other words, delegation allows employees to
make decisions. This is a summary of the points we covered:
The first behavior discussed deals with clarifying the assignment. The situation in the scenario is far too often a common occurrence in the
daily functions of work. Ricky Lee did the right thing by getting approval from his boss Anne Zumwait before passing the assignment to Bill
Harmon. Ricky now understands that reassigning the project to Bill means that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, Rick the manager, has previous responsibilities he has to achieve and has to make a decision on how to get his next task from his
boss completed the best way possible. He must relay particular information from his boss to Bill to assure this task meets Anne's projects
credentials. As stated above there are pro's to this procedure but also a very important con. If the information that Rick supplies Bill with is
inaccurate or not fully described the whole project can go awry.
Obviously the project has been clarified and specified to Rick. All the requirements have been set and also allow him to participate, another
delegating technique, in the decision to incorporate other qualified employees, which is Rick, to accomplish the project's achievements. If he
does not inform Rick appropriately with all the different parameters Anne has described this could fall back on Rick. Therefore he must
discuss all the requirements to his subordinate precisely. As a precaution he also tells Rick what has been delegated to him so he knows the
importance of the task at hand. Anne has established a feedback channel with Rick which allowed him to acquire Bill to complete the project
successfully. It is Rick's job to follow the same delegating techniques with Bill so there is an understanding. This includes an agreement with
Bill on certain requisites which

4) As it comes to what powers of the state and government come to, the Delegates had problems, "There was consensus on only one thing: A
new and more effective central government was essential. But there was no consensus on what powers that government should have, the form
that government should take, or how representation in that government should be determined" (pg 71). During convention plans were made to
set bases of how the government was supposed to work which the Virginia plan played a major role in. The Virginia plan, set down by James

Later, after debating and getting to a certain point certain issues like how the president would be chosen, a Committee was formed known as
the Committee on Postponed Matters consisting of eleven men, and one of those eleven men was John Dickson of Delaware. Dickson can be
thanked for the Electoral College; due to him people are allowed to vote for the president, as quoted by Berkin in page 139, "He believed that
the acceptance of the new government hinged on the people's reaction to the presidency and its powers. And he was certain that the people
would not accept a president endowed with such far–reaching powers as the right to make treaties, command the armed forces, and appoint
ambassadors, unless they had a role in selecting him". The Electoral College is made up of electors who cast votes to decide the president and
the vice–president, voters that goes to the polls chooses which candidate receives their state's electors. Whoever wins the majority of the
electoral votes wins the presidency. This allows the citizens of the state to choose the president without corruption. Therefore, with the

Barriers to Effective Delegation
Introduction
Managers frequently complain that they have too much to do and too little time in which to do it. Unchecked, this feeling leads to stress and
managerial ineffectiveness. In many cases, managers could greatly reduce their stress by practicing a critical management skill – delegation.
Delegation is one of the most important management skills. Good delegation saves the time, develops the subordinates, fosters a successor
and motivates. Poor delegation will cause frustration, de–motivation and failures to achieve the task or purpose. Although it is easy to
recognize the benefits that accrue from delegation, many managers still resist actually doing it – why? This article will identify what
delegation is, the common barriers to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Actually, the best way to be promoted is to train your replacement. In this way, a supervisor can take a new position or volunteer to take on
more challenging tasks without a loss in productivity. So it is obviously that delegation improves productivity but not makes supervisors out
of their job.
1.6 No Confidence in Team Members
Some supervisors resist delegation because they don't have faith in their team members. . In this case, supervisor should be sure that he
himself does know the capabilities, potential, and limitations of each member so that he could select the most appropriate person for each task.
In addition, supervisor should make sure that they have adequately prepared the team members for the tasks they assign. The more prepared
they are, the less worried supervisor will be.
Supervisors are not the only one that may be wary of delegation. The team members may also have some anxieties of their own. Next, we will
elaborate several barriers to delegation from the employee.
2. Barriers Related to Employee
If supervisors understand their team members' trouble to accept delegated tasks, they can help them realize the benefits in delegation. Once
they begin to succeed, they will be more willing to take on additional responsibilities that supervisors delegate. Here are 6 common barriers
posed by team members.
2.1 Time Consuming
Some of the team members may feel that they are already

Registered Nurses And Proper Delegation Of Care
Registered Nurses and Proper Delegation of Care What does it mean be a registered nurse? To some, it may be someone who goes and fetches
a cup of water or a cup of coffee. Perhaps it is someone who just provides the patient with warm blanket and a pat on the head; or just maybe
someone who delivers medications to the patients. A registered nurse (RN) may provide those services, but there is much more behind the
scenes of planning that the patient may not realize. A RN is also responsible for the proper delegation of care to the patients under his/her care
with the appropriate staff that is suited for such tasks. For example, a RN may delegate the CENA's (Competency Evaluated Nurse Aides) to
take vitals on a patient while the LPN/LVN ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the nursing team isn't working together to accomplish this task then it is the patient that ultimately suffers. Delegation can be a powerful
tool to improve the patient health status or it can hinder what the health team is trying to accomplish if the wrong person is delegated the
wrong task or isn't capable of handling that particular task, the patient could suffer and even resulting in death.
Delegation as defined by the State of Michigan Public Health Code as "...means an authorization granted by a licensee to a licensed or
unlicensed individual to perform selected acts, tasks, or functions which fall within the scope of practice of the delegator and which are not
within the scope of practice of the delegatee and which, in the absence of the authorization, would constitute illegal practice of a licensed
profession" (RN Accountability For Delegation Decisions). What this states is that the RN has the legal right to delegate appropriate tasks to
LPN/LVN and UAPs (unlicensed assistive personnel) or CENA's. The importance of delegation of care is vital to the success of the patient's
outcome to leave the acute hospital setting. The RN must be agile in overseeing that the tasks assigned are done correctly and accurately due
to the fact that they are ultimately responsible and accountable for that patient. In the acute hospital setting, the RN may delegate to the

National Council Of The State Board Of Nurses
For the busy manager, there never seems to be enough time in one day to do everything. You can create "To Do" lists, plan ahead, abide by a
calendar, but in healthcare, an industry that is constantly changing, new tasks arise in response to external and internal environmental changes
very quickly. In order to adapt to these changes, a skilled manager must know how to delegate. Merriam–Webster defines delegation as "the
act of giving control, authority, a job, duty, etc. to another person". The National Council of the State Board of Nurses defines delegation as
"the transfer of authority to perform a nursing task from one person to another, while retaining accountability for the outcome."Definitions
may vary, but the significance of strategic delegation within an organization is tantamount to the very people who work within it. Delegation
is a layered process that has implications for employees, managers, and the greater organization. Empowering staff through delegation is a
such a challenge, that a leader with effective delegation skills is essential to the success of any organization. Effective delegation has the
potential to boost staff morale, develop more competent employees, and gives managers time to address management level duties. In this
paper we will discuss the basic, and most important elements of delegation and the impact it has in the workplace.

Duckettville Branch Library Case Study
Introduction This case study is about Meredith, the assistant manager of the Duckettville Branch Library, who felt dissatisfied, overworked,
and burned out. She felt that everyone was relying on her too much all the time. She also started to resent her manager, Pam, for constantly
handing out more tasks to her, while she herself seemed to have a lighter workload. In this regard, this paper will address the questions: What
policies can be adopted to keep Pam from transferring so many duties to Meredith? What may be Pam's motives in assigning so much work to
Meredith? What could Meredith do in this situation? Discussion What policies can be adopted to keep Pam from transferring so many duties

On the other hand, perhaps Pam expects Meredith to assign many of these tasks to the other employees as what a leader is supposed to do.
What could Meredith do in this situation? Meredith has two options in this case. Option one is she could stay and try to implement some
changes in the way work is assigned and done in the library, if she still likes her job and wants to stay on. Option two is to move on and find
another employment in another library since she has already demonstrated that she is a capable assistant manager and might be even ready for
a higher position. If she decides on the first option, she should engage Pam in a discussion again. They should agree on the scope and
expectations of her job. Prior to that, she could list all her tasks and during the discussion, she should consult with Pam to identify which tasks
are top priorities, and which can be delegated. By showing her the task list, Meredith could demonstrate that she is indeed overwhelmed with
the workload. She should make sure to communicate in a logical and respectful manner and let Pam understand that having a heavy workload
impacts her ability to satisfy the job requirements. Further, she should offer options and solutions. Otherwise, she would just come off as
complaining, which is counterproductive. In any case, Meredith must practice her delegation capabilities because it is an essential aspect of
leadership and something

In Order To Be A Successful Team Leader, One Must Have
In order to be a successful team leader, one must have the skills and ability to drive his or her team to be performing at its peak. Thus,
effective team management is key to ensuring team success and maintaining a healthy, collaborative environment. Leader effectiveness is a
dynamic process, where leader behaviors need to fit followers and circumstances in order to be effective (Pieterse et al, 2010).Leaders can and
will influence follower behavior as Hirst states "followers will be more inclined to view them as favorable role models (2009). Coaching and
inspiration are key to increasing creative potential and as such, leaders should seek development opportunities to improve these abilities.
Lastly, leaders should be aware of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Identification of the task the purpose is the first. This can be asking simple questions such as "What could I delegate to achieve results more
quickly or effectively?" or "What could I delegate to free up my time to focus on top–priority objectives?" Next it is important to figure out
the key aspects of the responsibility such as scope, expectations, and outputs. Finally, and most importantly, who should be matched to this
task? The person assigned should have the ability, knowledge, availability and motivation to take on the task.
It is important to help the person receiving the task to understand the important and benefits of a particular delegation. A team leader should
stay involved and clarify any confusion or expectations. Working together to develop ideas will ease the transferring of the responsibility.
Formal and informal coaching discussions should occur to check on progress and evaluation.
Delegation of tasks to team members is to be embraced not feared. Delegating tasks and responsibilities builds team cohesion and confidence
plus it allows team members to grow into future leaders. To assist in delegating tasks, make a list of what you should be doing as the lead.
Then make another list of what you are actually doing and compare the two. The tasks you are actually doing that are getting in the way of
what you should be doing can be delegated. Be sure to provide clear delegation instructions and where possible have the person being

Mullen–RhoadsRMGT7110–8–2: Assess Challenges of Leading Leaders face challenges in many areas including delegation, managing
conflict, and building teams (Yukl, 2013). To minimize these and other challenges, guidelines should be established. Leaders must also
recognize and understand the various types and uses of power in organizations and how individuals at different levels may employ power.
Various theoretical perspectives exist to explain behaviors within organizations; some appear to hold greater relevance than others (Yukl,
2013).
Delegating Job Responsibilities
Six areas should be considered when delegating job responsibilities (Bos–Nehles, van Riemsdijk, & Looise, 2013; Yukl, 2013). First,

Managers should also delegate and unpleasant jobs. Managers who only delegate unpleasant tasks increase their stress level, while managers
who only delegate pleasant tasks can undermine employee satisfaction. The final area that should be considered when delegating tasks is the
manager's role; jobs that are representatively significant and essential to the manager's role should not be delegated. Even when developing
employees, these tasks should be approached using a consultation or group approach (Bos–Nehles et al., 2013; Yukl, 2013).
Guidelines for Delegating
To delegate successfully, managers should follow certain guidelines (Yukl, 2013). First, goals and priorities should be specified, desired
outcomes should be clarified, and deadlines identified. Next, sufficient resources should be made available, authority should be provided to
the employee, and restrictions identified. Reporting requirements should be stipulated. Managers must ensure the individual is willing to
accept the responsibilities that are being delegated. Other individuals who will be affected by the delegation must be informed to encourage
cooperation and assistance. Managers also need to monitor progress and provide feedback as necessary. Once the task has been delegated,
managers should provide encouragement and advice, but should avoid reversing their decision. Finally, mistakes should be used as a learning
experience for the manager

Delegation in Business Organizations
Delegation is the assignment of authority and responsibility to another person; normally from a manager to a subordinate to carry out specific
activities. It is one of the core concepts of management leadership. The delegated person remains accountable for the outcome of the delegated
work.
But how important is delegation and what role it plays in the success of business organization ?
Delegation empowers a subordinate to make decisions; it is a shift of decision–making authority from one organizational level to a lower one.
Delegation is very important in business success; if properly done can save money and time, help in building skills, and motivate people while
poor delegation, on the other hand, might cause frustration and confusion to all the involved parties. Being the delegated self motivated, it
pushes him from inside to give more to the company and accept more tasks to improve his ability to be an ideal employee and builds a strong
community in company in general and between the manager and his delegate specially. It is a way of strengthen the loyalty of the delegate.
Delegating frees up managers to tackle the truly important aspects of business project. It saves time as it allows concentrating on the on the
big picture of the project instead of wasting time on small details. Training someone will involve more time in the short term which saves in
future working hours for a manager. It's an investment in the future that will pay compound interest.

According to The Fundamentals of Nursing, delegation is defined as "the transfer of responsibility for the performance of an activity to
another individual while retaining accountability for the outcome" (Taylor et al, 2014). Many nurses choose not to delegate because they still
hold "responsibility" for the task. For this reason, they choose to do everything for themselves. However, this mind set is what makes
delegation difficult. The nurse must understand that accountability means ensuring that the person that is being delegated the task understands
the task, is capable of performing the task, and takes full responsibility for the task. This idea is further supported with Alice Weydt research
that states, "RNs assure appropriate accountability by verifying that the receiving person accepts the delegation and accompanying
responsibility' (NCSBN and ANA, 2006). It is the nurses' responsibility to understand and answer why the action was delegates, and the

stating, "It's the same calculator I use for my health care plan and my free college plan...". Highlighted in the visual is Sanders continued
confidence that he can win the Presidential Democratic Nominee over opponent Hillary Clinton. However, in all reality, Sanders would need
to obtain a major amount of pledged delegates. In a Washington Post article, "Bernie Sanders's Bad Delegate Math Just Keeps Getting Worse",
Philip Bump states, " If you include superdelegates, among whom Clinton has a big lead, Sanders needs to win more than 90 percent of the
remaining pledged delegates to clinch the nomination". If this were to happen, Sanders would create an immense shift in the Democratic
voting pattern (a shift that is very unlikely to occur). Thus, referring back to the depiction of Sanders faulty addition of "2+2", a bigger

Delegation: Management and Work
AC 1.1 Evaluate the benefits of delegation
Delegation is widely acknowledged to be an essential element of effective management (Yukl, G. 1994). Delegation is basically a process of
assigning responsibility, sharing authority, and producing accountability in organizations. It is a managerial instrument that allows managers
to nurture subordinates to capitalize the subordinate's potential and ability to meet organizational goals and objectives. As a form of employee
involvement in decision–making, delegation describes a category of leader behavior that entails assignment of new responsibilities to
subordinates and additional authority to carry them out (Yukl, G. 1998). Managers usually find it easier to speak about delegation of ... Show

Moving up to a higher level of delegation provides more time empowers the team member for increased productivity. Roebuck, Chris. (1998).
In many ways, empowerment embodies principles effective managers and leaders have practiced for years. Two new driving forces in
business, increased diversity and high–speed change, magnify the need for empowerment. Empowering people is now indispensable for
effective personal productivity and maximum team success.
AC 2.1 Justify an appropriate process to follow when delegating work within your area of responsibility?
When delegating work within one's area of responsibility, following process can be tracked for appropriate process (UK's NMC's Council,
2007) –
Treat people as individuals * Leader must treat people as individuals and respect their dignity. * Must not discriminate in any way. * Must
treat people kindly and considerately. * Must act as an advocate for those in one's care, helping them to access relevant health and social care,
information and support.
Respect people 's confidentiality * Leader must respect people 's right to confidentiality. * Must ensure people are informed about how and
why information is shared by those who will be providing their care. * Must disclose information if leader believe someone may be at risk of
harm, in line with the law of the country in which leader is practicing.

The Key Parts That Create Effective Delegation
When delegating a task to any team subordinate, it is important to remember the key parts that create effective delegation. If something is
misinterpreted or is not delivered appropriately, it can change the whole dynamics. A very good sign of a leader or manager is how they
delegate and how they follow up. Whether you're a manager, assistant manager, a leader, owner of a business, or working with a group on a
school project, being able to effectively delegate tasks will, in fact will help the overall goal. Delegation means more than just assigning
employees tasks, it increases confidence and satisfaction into its employees as well as allowing the leader or manager more time to focus on
other important items (How to delegate effectively, 2010). With that, delegating tasks strategically and planning them out for the employees
will be more effective. Although, delegating work for some may be a challenge, because they believe that they can get all the work done
quickly and accurately, alone. Identifying those challenges and actively learning how to delegate work effectively will increase the moral of
the work environment.
The Benefits to Delegating a Task Delegating tasks is a necessary skill for all leaders, managers, and self–managing professionals to have
(How to delegate work, 2010). With that, follows many benefits when delegation is done accurately. One of the obvious benefits of delegation
would be to lessen the workload for the leader or manger, having

A Delegate Of The Constitutional Convention
A delegate of the constitutional convention in Philadelphia made this statement about James Wilson "Government seems to have been his
peculiar study, all the political institutions of the world he knows in detail, and can trace the causes and effects of every revolution from the
earliest stages of the Grecian commonwealth down to the present time." This statement describes James Wilson to a tee, he not only had how
the government worked memorized but he also could take that knowledge and infuse it into the constitution and future government of the
United States. James Wilson was born September 14, 1742 in Scotland. He studied at many universities but he never earned a degree. Then in

Though he did not believe in breaking away from Britain, he agreed to sign the Declaration of Independence for "reasons he doesn't want to

for his district to be caucused because he believed the people deserved the power. He also dealt with Indian affairs as he was serving in the
Congress and set the relations of congress with border tribes.
Wilson took part in many revolutionary acts. Such as the Committee of spies, where Wilson and other men such as Thomas Jefferson and John

Rules of Delegation
In the Texas Board of Nursing "Rules and Regulations" chapter 224 and 225 explain what an RN should delegate and what can be delegated in
certain situations. There are five rights of delegation including the right task, right circumstance, right person, right direction and
communication, and right supervision. These five rights must always be considered before any sort of delegation can occur.
Chapter 224 gives rules on delegating tasks to unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP) in an acute care setting. This involves patients who are
unstable and unpredictable. The RN is responsible for assessing the nursing needs of the patient, creating a plan of action, implementing the
plan, and evaluating the patient's response. The initial assessment must always occur prior to any delegation. After the assessment is done, the
nurse must consider the five rights of delegation to make sure he/she is delegating appropriately. Competency of the ... Show more content on

Job Satisfaction And Motivation For Employees Essay
Managers can develop subordinates to manage routine tasks that are not cost effective for them to carry out. Delegation also allows the
transfer of work to subordinates who might have better skills than the manager to complete the tasks that can save time. The reason can be for
example the delegation of a project to an employee that have intimate knowledge of a specific field or subject that involves the project. Apart
from developing employees, delegation can also play an important role in job satisfaction and motivation.
7.1 Diagram: Steps in successful delegation
Source: Team FME, 2015:12
According to Team FME, (2015:12) managers must follow certain steps to ensure that delegation is meaningful in terms of achievement of the
organisations objectives and supportive of the employee's development. These steps include;
Step 1 – Selecting the right person with the right knowledge, skills and attributes is essential. Delegation should be developmental and not set
the employee up for failure (Fox and Van der Waldt, 2007:121).
Step 2 – Set clear goals and select appropriate tasks. There are certain tasks that cannot be delegated to subordinates for example, a task that
no else in the department is prepared to do, morale problems, emergency or short term task where there is no time to explain or train the
employee or lastly personnel issues such as hiring , dismissal or disciplinary matters.
Step 3 – Set clear deadlines by giving clear, well–communicated briefings in

With the right supervision, the lower level staff member should report back to the RN in a timely manner with all progress or the patient

completion of each task in a timely manner. The RN should be able to complete other tasks, which can be only completed by them, in a timely
manner. The lower level staff member should be held accountable for the work performed with positive and guidance with other aspects that

With any kind of delegation, there are still barriers. Nurses who are not confident with their own skills may feel that delegating diminishes

Essay on The Delegation of Managers
The Delegation of Managers
The Oxford English Dictionary defines Delegation as "The action of delivering or assigning a thing to a person or to a purpose." Delegation is
very important in the Air Force and military in general. When managers do not delegate, they can become overwhelmed. The concept of
delegation can be difficult to master. I was a Contracting Officer for 6 years. During that time, I not only saw delegation within the military
structure but also to the contractors we employed.

After market research was completed, we took over until the contract was negotiated and awarded to a company. At that point, most of the
responsibility was delegated to the Quality Assurance Advisor on service type contracts. This individual was in charge of inspecting the
contractors and verifying that the work was completed. Each month, the contractor would submit an invoice for payment for that month. The
Quality Assurance Advisor would have to sign off on the invoice to ensure that the work was completed and payment is justified. As a
Contracting Officer, you are too busy with negotiating other contracts and ensuring that the contractual part of all the contracts are being
adhered to. If there are problems, it is usually the Quality Assurance Advisor that brings it to our attention. We can amend the contract or give
the contractor a notice, but we can't be at the site every day. For contracts for supplies, the customer requesting and receiving the supplies
simply let us know when the item is received and correct. Once we are notified that the contract is complete, we release the payment to the
contractor. This type of delegation is necessary for our office. The Quality Assurance Advisors must be recommended by their commander and
go through a lot of training before they can claim that title. Some Quality Assurance Advisors are responsible for million dollar contracts.

The saying goes that Management is doing things right, and Leadership is doing the right things. It sounds good on the surface – leaving the
details up to the Managers while the Leaders lead. Or play golf.
But how can you be an effective Leader if you 're not aware of the logistics involved in your enterprise?
At some point – either on the way up in your career, or during on–going operations – you 'll need to understand the nuts and bolts of your
project.
This essential makes the atmosphere ripe for getting a little too involved with logistics, leading to that dreaded syndrome known as
"meddling."
I know it 's not a pretty thought, but if folks are whispering about you as you walk by, it may be time to reassess and loosen your grip on your
team.
Just as in that epic game involving 18 holes and a rambling lawn, business works best when you 're loose. It 's important to know when to
loosen your grip and allow others to assume some responsibility. (Ask me how I know.)
Yes, as a matter of fact, loosening–up does include

PTA Personalities
Many public institutions rely on the generosity and help of volunteers in order to run smoothly. One of the more important institutions is the

Essay on The Four Main Stages of Business
A growing business will cycle through four major stages in its development. Evolving from a one–person operation to a multi department
company has its challenges and rewards. In this paper, it will be described how each of the four stages a business may pass through will affect
it. The four stages of a business life are as follow. In stage one, the business is being created and is operated often with only one person. Stage
two, organization growth, structure and employee management can be observed. Stage three, owner's delegation of certain powers takes place.
Finally, stage four, being the creation of a more structured business, which entails the creation of policies and procedures.

should be outsourced to professionals that specialize. Possibilities include information systems, accounting, human resources, marketing, and

more successful.
The fourth stage of business happens when the business has almost reached its full expansion. It is the stage where the owner has to make
decisions on policies, code of conduct for personnel, job descriptions as well as internal control policies just to name a few. It is also the stage
where the owner will have to decide what type of departmentation they want their organization to use. Whether it is by project, by function or
by matrix this will help the business being more efficient. Also, the founder will have to decide whether its business should be centralized or

Executive Level Leader's Use Of Delegation Analysis
Explain three principles that should guide an
Executive Level leader's use of delegation.
1. Choose what tasks you are willing to delegate.
Executives should be using their time on the most critical tasks for the business, and the tasks that only they can do. Delegate what you can't
do, and what doesn't interest you. You should have surrounded yourself with the best employees, so make use of their talents. For example,
non–technical types should consider delegating IT solution based ideas to the IT department, and let them present you with solutions.
Marketing ideas that need to be thought out from many social angles, should be given to an individual or department that is gifted in creative
thinking.
2. Trust those to whom you delegate.

Delegation Is A Leadership Skill For Job Satisfaction,...
Delegation is when an individual who is responsible and has authority over a task transfers the responsibility of the task to another person who
is qualified and agrees to perform such task (Sullivan, 2012, p.132). Delegation is a leadership skill because the person who delegates the task
is using judgement to transfer the task to someone whose skills are better matched and it empowers other health care members. For example,
when a registered nurse (RN) delegates to a certified nursing assistant (CNA) to start an IV this is freeing up time so the nurse can perform
discharge instructions to another patient. "Effective delegation contributes to job satisfaction, empowerment, responsibility, productivity,
professional growth, and effective patient care" (Kærnested & Bragadóttir, 2012).
Delegation has been a difficult skill for me to perform because I don't want to burden others with tasks when I am capable of doing it myself.
My goal is to improve my delegation skills in order to improve my time management, decrease overall stress, and to expand my
communication skills. Not only is delegation important for me to gain leadership skills, but it is important to be able to pass skills and abilities
on to other team members.
Neuhauser, Myhre, and Alemi "Personal Quality Improvement Work Book" indicates a process to assist in helping achieve my personal goal
of delegating on other members of the health care team (2004). The method that they propose is the plan–do–check–act (PDCA)

Delegation In Delegation
Delegation is very important to utilize when a manager is trying to accomplish a task when they cannot do it themselves. Delegation is mostly
used to give someone with authority to assign designated task to another person. However, the person that is delegating the task still assumes
responsibility to make sure that the task gets completed. For example, when the manager delegates a task to you, he or she is likely still
responsible for making sure that task is accomplished. With delegating, an attempt is being made to have meaningful participation and
cooperation from the staff for achieving the required goal. When delegating responsibilities of the manager are reduced. As a result, he or she
concentrates on more urgent and important matters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that managers should put in valued effort to get some of that empowerment feeling into their staff, where staff will see things with
managerial eyes, sometimes managers can over delegate to their staff. I believe that delegation is given in either or depending on the task and
staff. To delegate means to choose or elect a person to act as a representative for another. To empower someone means to give power or
authority to someone else (Gordon & Barry 2009). To delegate something to someone is to only give them enough leash to act on your behalf
as you would for yourself (Gordon & Barry 2009). To empower another means you give them enough power and authority to act on their own
behalf. In both delegations and empowerment the manager is giving the staff the authority to perform a task. Empowering delegation can
improve decision making. It can be used to improve the quality decision making by bringing to allow more information, closer to the source
of the problem, than the manager has alone. A staff member can be a source of information waiting to share with their manager. Delegating

Professional Development . Reflection On My Career Included,

  • 1. Professional Development . Reflection On My Career Included, Professional Development Reflection on my career included, taking a look at the reason I choose nursing as a profession. Working in a retirement home for a few years prior to deciding to become a nurse helped to make the decision. I worked in food services for a posh retirement home, that also had a small locked unit on the first floor for dementia and Alzheimer's patients. Everyday I was exposed to these residents I enjoyed learning and helping them. This made my decision an easy one. Seeing the difference the nurses made everyday, spending time with the residents and having the knowledge to help them, was a huge reminder that I was making the right choice. I remained in awe of the skills that the nurses possessed and how involved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most I could commit to my studies has been one or two courses at a time, therefore, I'm putting more energy towards completing it now. The emergency specialty degree was very intriguing since it focused mainly on emergency based practice and on my preferred area of work. Being able to I enjoy being able to spend my time working towards completing a personal goal while also learning about various emergency based knowledge that will be helpful in my current position. In order to complete these courses I needed the help of my family and friends. Being able to detach from the everyday responsibility of family and work to focus on my studies is a challenge. Despite that, I have been lucky enough to allot some time each week to my course load. During night shifts I use the slow periods to study and write papers. My co– workers are supportive as well to allow me time for breaks undisturbed to concentrate on my studies. Although work and home life can also be hindrances when I must tend to the needs of my family or patients. Working near full time hours pushes the limitations further when I have an assignment deadline. Unfortunately, I do not have the same amount of time to spend researching and focusing on the paper as I would when I work less hours. As noted by Parse (1995) in module ... • 5. Minding the Store Q&a Minding the store 1– There are nine specific ways to foster empowerment. Ken Hoffman didn't follow these rules and thus failed to produce a sense of competence choice, impact value and security. The first rule that Ken Hoffman violated was articulating a clear vision and goals. When Ruth Cummings was made the branch manager, she was told to make the store one of the best in the system. He failed to share the vision of where the organization is going and how Ruth can contribute as an individual. The second blunder caused by Mr. Hoffman was not fostering personal mastery experiences. • 9. Analysis Of The Movie ' Fall Scene ' Kayana Waller Fall Scene Reflection Fund. of Directing Since I was the first shoot of the semester, Pre–production was a rushed process. Some ideas that I had initially wanted were abandoned just because of the lack of time or resources. However, I think this was a helpful to my shoot. When preparing the shot list, script, and lighting set–up, I planned minimalistically. When on set, my D.P and I added on to the plan, instead of coming into the shoot overly ambitious. Also, we as a crew delegated tasks based on our strengths to make the shoot easier. Connor, the D.P., took notes from me, and composed his own shot list, which I complete approved of. This is the case with my production designer, Collin. On the set, delegating really helped us conserve time the most. Also, this allowed everyone to do their own thing, which also kept energy and positivity high. Since it was such short notice, the actors and I came to a compromise about over the dialogue. Other than extremely significant lines, about half of the dialogue was paraphrased. This benefited both the time constraint, and their ability to focus more on their relationship to each other in the scene, as opposed to perfect quotation. The communication amongst the crew rather easy. Our pre– production meeting was brief because we quickly discuss what our goal was for the scene and what our delegated tasks were. In times of conflicting ideas, we quickly compromised or respectful turned them down. Subsequently, it was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. THE ART OF DELEGATION Essay There is a limit to the amount of work that you can do on your own. There is only so much value that you can deliver to your company or organization without the help of other people. If you are successful in your career, at some stage the demands on you will become greater than you are able to cope with on your own. When this happens, you are forced to rely on the help of others, you are forced to delegate. Delegation is a process by which a manager examines the various responsibilities and tasks at hand, and rather than assuming and completing those tasks and responsibilities on his or her own, that manager decides to assign the work to other employees. Effective managers must be willing to entrust a task, power or responsibility to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each policy advisor then has an administrative assistant to whom he or she can further delegate tasks if warranted. If not, the administrative assistant is responsible to assisting the policy advisor in completing the task in order to satisfy the needs of the constituent or Arkansas citizen. The process within our office illustrates how delegation is the downward transfer of formal authority from superior to subordinate. We all realize that delegating involves working with an employee to establish goals, granting them sufficient authority and responsibility to achieve the goals, often giving them substantial freedom in deciding how the goals will be achieved, remaining available as a resource to help them achieve the goals, assessing their performance (the quality of their effort and attainment of the goals), addressing performance issues and/or rewarding their performance. Delegation is primarily about entrusting your authority to others. This means that they can act and initiate independently; and that they assume responsibility with you for certain tasks. One of the main phobias about delegation is that by giving others authority, a manager loses control. Even when you delegate the work, you still maintain the accountability. Ultimately, the supervisor retains responsibility for the attainment of the goals, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. How To Be A Mn Conference Case Study HOW TO BECOME A GOOD DELEGATE It is difficult to be a competitor in a MUN conference. It can be overwhelming, especially for beginners and a lot of uncontrollable events can happen. However, preparing yourself by getting the hang of necessary tasks such as making motions, speeches, and forming blocs, alliances... can help you feel more confident when attending MUN. And to assist you through the initial difficulties, here are some things that you need to consider: Understanding the Rules of Procedure (RoP): Memorizing the RoP is the most basic preparation you need to make when engaging yourself in MUN. Having a deep understanding of the RoP allows delegates to act within a conference without any awkward occurrences. Furthermore, it can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consequently, strategizing also exists both before and during the conference. Both research and planning allows delegates to understand carefully the situation and strategize accordingly. Without these two factors, delegates would either find themselves unknowing of what to do due to the lack of research, or would take an unfavorable course of action from the lack of careful planning. While doing research, be it before the conference or observing during the conference, pay attention to: Your country's own attributes (weaknesses/strengths) Opponent country's attributes Ally's attributes How the situation affects each country How the country's attributes can be used favorably For planning and strategizing, consider the following: What benefits would you gain if you align with/attack another country? What sacrifices would you have to make to align with/attack another country? Speeches MUN is about collaborating and resolving issues together. As such, the speeches that you would make is not about taking down other delegates' ideas, but is instead on convincing others to vote for and support you. In other words, MUN speeches are meant to be diplomatic, not argumentative. To make a good speech, delegates should: Be clear Be brief Maintain diplomacy & avoid personal attacks The Caucus In a MUN conference, the most significant time period other than for speeches and debates is the caucus. Developing and leading teams to achieve organisational goals and objectives Understand the importance of leading teams to achieve organisational goals and objectives Assess the effectiveness of own organisation in measuring team performance against organisation goals and objectives In this section I will be assessing how the University and the Estates Office measure team performance against goals and objectives. In my opinion the university at times struggles to measure team performance against its goals and objectives as I believe that the objectives are too vague and are not always fully understood by the people who are meant to be achieving them. Within the Estates Office and around the University, there are numerous people who have spent their whole or at least a majority of their careers within the University and are adverse to change, this can make them difficult to performance manage as they know the system and have a least a perceived advantage of knowledge over the newer members of staff. The Estates office has a perceived, if not an actual issue, with the performance management of some staff, this in turn creates more individual issues especially around Performance Development Review (PDR) when certain members of staff have lost all faith in the review and the outcomes of these reviews. This all relates back to team performance being managed and feedback being given in the correct manner. Evaluate the role of leadership helping teams to achieve organisational goals and objectives In this section, I will be looking at leadership and how leadership helps teams to achieve their and the organizations goals and objectives. Within any successful team, you will find leaders, it need not be the manager, and it doesn't have to be the same person all the time, you only have to look at any successful sports team to see that there are numerous leaders and within the team each person knows the role they have to perform at any set moment and can change as the situation needs. • 25. Delegating Responsibility Essay Learning Team Skills Exercise This week, the Learning Team read and discussed the Skills Exercise at the end of Chapter 10 in the text. This exercise deals with learning how to delegate, or assign authority, to another person in order to carry out specific duties. In other words, delegation allows employees to make decisions. This is a summary of the points we covered: The first behavior discussed deals with clarifying the assignment. The situation in the scenario is far too often a common occurrence in the daily functions of work. Ricky Lee did the right thing by getting approval from his boss Anne Zumwait before passing the assignment to Bill Harmon. Ricky now understands that reassigning the project to Bill means that ... In this case, Rick the manager, has previous responsibilities he has to achieve and has to make a decision on how to get his next task from his boss completed the best way possible. He must relay particular information from his boss to Bill to assure this task meets Anne's projects credentials. As stated above there are pro's to this procedure but also a very important con. If the information that Rick supplies Bill with is inaccurate or not fully described the whole project can go awry. Obviously the project has been clarified and specified to Rick. All the requirements have been set and also allow him to participate, another delegating technique, in the decision to incorporate other qualified employees, which is Rick, to accomplish the project's achievements. If he does not inform Rick appropriately with all the different parameters Anne has described this could fall back on Rick. Therefore he must discuss all the requirements to his subordinate precisely. As a precaution he also tells Rick what has been delegated to him so he knows the importance of the task at hand. Anne has established a feedback channel with Rick which allowed him to acquire Bill to complete the project successfully. It is Rick's job to follow the same delegating techniques with Bill so there is an understanding. This includes an agreement with Bill on certain requisites which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Delegate Government Powers 4) As it comes to what powers of the state and government come to, the Delegates had problems, "There was consensus on only one thing: A new and more effective central government was essential. But there was no consensus on what powers that government should have, the form that government should take, or how representation in that government should be determined" (pg 71). During convention plans were made to set bases of how the government was supposed to work which the Virginia plan played a major role in. And he was certain that the people would not accept a president endowed with such far–reaching powers as the right to make treaties, command the armed forces, and appoint ambassadors, unless they had a role in selecting him". The Electoral College is made up of electors who cast votes to decide the president and the vice–president, voters that goes to the polls chooses which candidate receives their state's electors. • 33. Barriers to Effective Delegation Introduction Managers frequently complain that they have too much to do and too little time in which to do it. Unchecked, this feeling leads to stress and managerial ineffectiveness. In many cases, managers could greatly reduce their stress by practicing a critical management skill – delegation. Delegation is one of the most important management skills. Good delegation saves the time, develops the subordinates, fosters a successor and motivates. Poor delegation will cause frustration, de–motivation and failures to achieve the task or purpose. Although it is easy to recognize the benefits that accrue from delegation, many managers still resist actually doing it – why? This article will identify what delegation is, the common barriers to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Actually, the best way to be promoted is to train your replacement. In this way, a supervisor can take a new position or volunteer to take on more challenging tasks without a loss in productivity. So it is obviously that delegation improves productivity but not makes supervisors out of their job. 1.6 No Confidence in Team Members Some supervisors resist delegation because they don't have faith in their team members. . In this case, supervisor should be sure that he himself does know the capabilities, potential, and limitations of each member so that he could select the most appropriate person for each task. In addition, supervisor should make sure that they have adequately prepared the team members for the tasks they assign. The more prepared they are, the less worried supervisor will be. Supervisors are not the only one that may be wary of delegation. The team members may also have some anxieties of their own. Next, we will elaborate several barriers to delegation from the employee. 2. Barriers Related to Employee If supervisors understand their team members' trouble to accept delegated tasks, they can help them realize the benefits in delegation. Once they begin to succeed, they will be more willing to take on additional responsibilities that supervisors delegate. • 37. Registered Nurses And Proper Delegation Of Care Registered Nurses and Proper Delegation of Care What does it mean be a registered nurse? To some, it may be someone who goes and fetches a cup of water or a cup of coffee. Perhaps it is someone who just provides the patient with warm blanket and a pat on the head; or just maybe someone who delivers medications to the patients. A registered nurse (RN) may provide those services, but there is much more behind the scenes of planning that the patient may not realize. A RN is also responsible for the proper delegation of care to the patients under his/her care with the appropriate staff that is suited for such tasks. For example, a RN may delegate the CENA's (Competency Evaluated Nurse Aides) to take vitals on a patient while the LPN/LVN ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the nursing team isn't working together to accomplish this task then it is the patient that ultimately suffers. Delegation can be a powerful tool to improve the patient health status or it can hinder what the health team is trying to accomplish if the wrong person is delegated the wrong task or isn't capable of handling that particular task, the patient could suffer and even resulting in death. Delegation as defined by the State of Michigan Public Health Code as "...means an authorization granted by a licensee to a licensed or unlicensed individual to perform selected acts, tasks, or functions which fall within the scope of practice of the delegator and which are not within the scope of practice of the delegatee and which, in the absence of the authorization, would constitute illegal practice of a licensed profession" (RN Accountability For Delegation Decisions). What this states is that the RN has the legal right to delegate appropriate tasks to LPN/LVN and UAPs (unlicensed assistive personnel) or CENA's. The importance of delegation of care is vital to the success of the patient's outcome to leave the acute hospital setting. The RN must be agile in overseeing that the tasks assigned are done correctly and accurately due to the fact that they are ultimately responsible and accountable for that patient. You can create "To Do" lists, plan ahead, abide by a calendar, but in healthcare, an industry that is constantly changing, new tasks arise in response to external and internal environmental changes very quickly. In order to adapt to these changes, a skilled manager must know how to delegate. Merriam–Webster defines delegation as "the act of giving control, authority, a job, duty, etc. to another person". The National Council of the State Board of Nurses defines delegation as "the transfer of authority to perform a nursing task from one person to another, while retaining accountability for the outcome."Definitions may vary, but the significance of strategic delegation within an organization is tantamount to the very people who work within it. Delegation is a layered process that has implications for employees, managers, and the greater organization. Empowering staff through delegation is a such a challenge, that a leader with effective delegation skills is essential to the success of any organization. Effective delegation has the potential to boost staff morale, develop more competent employees, and gives managers time to address management level duties. Duckettville Branch Library Case Study Introduction This case study is about Meredith, the assistant manager of the Duckettville Branch Library, who felt dissatisfied, overworked, and burned out. She felt that everyone was relying on her too much all the time. She also started to resent her manager, Pam, for constantly handing out more tasks to her, while she herself seemed to have a lighter workload. In this regard, this paper will address the questions: What policies can be adopted to keep Pam from transferring so many duties to Meredith? On the other hand, perhaps Pam expects Meredith to assign many of these tasks to the other employees as what a leader is supposed to do. What could Meredith do in this situation? Meredith has two options in this case. Option one is she could stay and try to implement some changes in the way work is assigned and done in the library, if she still likes her job and wants to stay on. Option two is to move on and find another employment in another library since she has already demonstrated that she is a capable assistant manager and might be even ready for a higher position. If she decides on the first option, she should engage Pam in a discussion again. They should agree on the scope and expectations of her job. Prior to that, she could list all her tasks and during the discussion, she should consult with Pam to identify which tasks are top priorities, and which can be delegated. By showing her the task list, Meredith could demonstrate that she is indeed overwhelmed with the workload. She should make sure to communicate in a logical and respectful manner and let Pam understand that having a heavy workload impacts her ability to satisfy the job requirements. Further, she should offer options and solutions. Otherwise, she would just come off as complaining, which is counterproductive. This case is regarding a non–verbal patient that is to go to the operating room (OR) to have a radical mastectomy at 8:30AM and is being cared for by a newly hired nurse (James Fair) who starts his shift at 7:00AM, a nursing assistant (Julie Coggeshall), and Sherry Trader the charge nurse. The aspects of care discussed include the problems in this case, when to delegate and assign care, dimensions of power and conflict and two solutions are provided, along with two communication techniques. If the staff refuse to accept the delegated task then Sherry Trader, the charge nurse, needs to address this situation with James Fair. Sherry should assess the reasons why James refuses to perform this task and help him to appropriately prepare the patient for surgery. According to Huber (2014), some of the main reasons responsibilities are avoided include fear of mistakes, lack of crucial information, overwhelmed, easier to seek answers than make independent decisions. These are some reasons why James may not want to complete this task because he is a newly hired nurse to this unit, and Sherry told him it was the same as any other surgery but did not assess whether James is aware of any surgical preparation on their unit ... The person assigned should have the ability, knowledge, availability and motivation to take on the task. It is important to help the person receiving the task to understand the important and benefits of a particular delegation. A team leader should stay involved and clarify any confusion or expectations. Working together to develop ideas will ease the transferring of the responsibility. Formal and informal coaching discussions should occur to check on progress and evaluation. Delegation of tasks to team members is to be embraced not feared. Delegating tasks and responsibilities builds team cohesion and confidence plus it allows team members to grow into future leaders. According to The Fundamentals of Nursing, delegation is defined as "the transfer of responsibility for the performance of an activity to another individual while retaining accountability for the outcome" (Taylor et al, 2014). Many nurses choose not to delegate because they still hold "responsibility" for the task. For this reason, they choose to do everything for themselves. However, this mind set is what makes delegation difficult. The nurse must understand that accountability means ensuring that the person that is being delegated the task understands the task, is capable of performing the task, and takes full responsibility for the task. This idea is further supported with Alice Weydt research that states, "RNs assure appropriate accountability by verifying that the receiving person accepts the delegation and accompanying responsibility' (NCSBN and ANA, 2006). If something is misinterpreted or is not delivered appropriately, it can change the whole dynamics. A very good sign of a leader or manager is how they delegate and how they follow up. Whether you're a manager, assistant manager, a leader, owner of a business, or working with a group on a school project, being able to effectively delegate tasks will, in fact will help the overall goal. It sounds good on the surface – leaving the details up to the Managers while the Leaders lead. Or play golf. But how can you be an effective Leader if you 're not aware of the logistics involved in your enterprise? At some point – either on the way up in your career, or during on–going operations – you 'll need to understand the nuts and bolts of your project. This essential makes the atmosphere ripe for getting a little too involved with logistics, leading to that dreaded syndrome known as "meddling." I know it 's not a pretty thought, but if folks are whispering about you as you walk by, it may be time to reassess and loosen your grip on your team. • 129. Essay on The Four Main Stages of Business A growing business will cycle through four major stages in its development. Evolving from a one–person operation to a multi department company has its challenges and rewards. In this paper, it will be described how each of the four stages a business may pass through will affect it. The four stages of a business life are as follow. In stage one, the business is being created and is operated often with only one person. Stage two, organization growth, structure and employee management can be observed. Stage three, owner's delegation of certain powers takes place. Finally, stage four, being the creation of a more structured business, which entails the creation of policies and procedures. In the first phase of the creation of the business, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the business grows, the owner's focus will have to change from overseeing the day–to–day operations to focusing on getting investors and funding and potentially developing new products or services. As I said earlier, since the proprietor will have staff, he/she will need experienced manager to help them focus on the core operations of the business as said by William Weirsema: "The founder should realize that he or she can't possibly be the best in the company at everything from marketing to finances. Functions that can't justify a full–time expert should be outsourced to professionals that specialize. Possibilities include information systems, accounting, human resources, marketing, and engineering. Hiring a chief operating officer is usually advisable."(1999). Hiring qualified staff and manager will help the business become more successful. The fourth stage of business happens when the business has almost reached its full expansion. It is the stage where the owner has to make decisions on policies, code of conduct for personnel, job descriptions as well as internal control policies just to name a few. It is also the stage where the owner will have to decide what type of departmentation they want their organization to use. Whether it is by project, by function or by matrix this will help the business being more efficient. Also, the founder will have to decide whether its business should be centralized or ... • 133. Executive Level Leader's Use Of Delegation Analysis Explain three principles that should guide an Executive Level leader's use of delegation. 1. Choose what tasks you are willing to delegate. Executives should be using their time on the most critical tasks for the business, and the tasks that only they can do. Delegate what you can't do, and what doesn't interest you. You should have surrounded yourself with the best employees, so make use of their talents. For example, non–technical types should consider delegating IT solution based ideas to the IT department, and let them present you with solutions. Marketing ideas that need to be thought out from many social angles, should be given to an individual or department that is gifted in creative thinking. 2. Trust those to whom you delegate. ... • 137. Delegation Is A Leadership Skill For Job Satisfaction,... Delegation is when an individual who is responsible and has authority over a task transfers the responsibility of the task to another person who is qualified and agrees to perform such task (Sullivan, 2012, p.132). Delegation is a leadership skill because the person who delegates the task is using judgement to transfer the task to someone whose skills are better matched and it empowers other health care members. For example, when a registered nurse (RN) delegates to a certified nursing assistant (CNA) to start an IV this is freeing up time so the nurse can perform discharge instructions to another patient. "Effective delegation contributes to job satisfaction, empowerment, responsibility, productivity, professional growth, and effective patient care" (Kærnested & Bragadóttir, 2012). Delegation has been a difficult skill for me to perform because I don't want to burden others with tasks when I am capable of doing it myself. My goal is to improve my delegation skills in order to improve my time management, decrease overall stress, and to expand my communication skills. Not only is delegation important for me to gain leadership skills, but it is important to be able to pass skills and abilities on to other team members. Neuhauser, Myhre, and Alemi "Personal Quality Improvement Work Book" indicates a process to assist in helping achieve my personal goal of delegating on other members of the health care team (2004). The method that they propose is the plan–do–check–act (PDCA) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Actionable Recommendation: Communication My recommendation for this issue is the whole group sitting down like they were, but each member discusses and makes their points of the idea. Each person gives their input on introducing online gaming and how it will affect the market? How can we fund the project? What are our goals? What is the market like for online gaming? Would it be smarter to just outsource the whole project? Can we train our staff to run the project? After taking a long serious look at online gaming as a group instead of passing it off to one person, they should make a decision and forward. A serious drawback for running projects in this operating environment is that they often must be layered, or applied on top of the ongoing duties of members of functional groups" (Pinto, 2013). This is another area of concern when considering delegation; what areas of responsibility may be compromised by other tasks and primary duties required of the people you expect to deliver finished tasks being taken away to perform their duties outside of the project/program implementation? Issue Week 2: Faulty Project Management From the outset of deciding that CanGo will invest in the online gaming platform and community, there is little to no direction. The mandate from executive leadership is too simply to create this online gaming platform to be launched on a specified date. Actionable Recommendation: Faulty Project Management The first area of concern is market research and understanding through the verifiable fact that there is money to be made, backed up with statistics and proving that there is money to be made and that CanGo has the capability to deliver unique differentiation. Then as a team led by Nick they should set SMART goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time–oriented. • 145. Delegation In Delegation Delegation is very important to utilize when a manager is trying to accomplish a task when they cannot do it themselves. Delegation is mostly used to give someone with authority to assign designated task to another person. However, the person that is delegating the task still assumes responsibility to make sure that the task gets completed. For example, when the manager delegates a task to you, he or she is likely still responsible for making sure that task is accomplished. With delegating, an attempt is being made to have meaningful participation and cooperation from the staff for achieving the required goal. When delegating responsibilities of the manager are reduced. As a result, he or she concentrates on more urgent and important matters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that managers should put in valued effort to get some of that empowerment feeling into their staff, where staff will see things with managerial eyes, sometimes managers can over delegate to their staff. I believe that delegation is given in either or depending on the task and staff. To delegate means to choose or elect a person to act as a representative for another. To empower someone means to give power or authority to someone else (Gordon & Barry 2009). To delegate something to someone is to only give them enough leash to act on your behalf as you would for yourself (Gordon & Barry 2009). To empower another means you give them enough power and authority to act on their own behalf. In both delegations and empowerment the manager is giving the staff the authority to perform a task. Empowering delegation can improve decision making. It can be used to improve the quality decision making by bringing to allow more information, closer to the source of the problem, than the manager has alone. A staff member can be a source of information waiting to share with their manager. Delegating task to those that have direct access to relevant information can enhance efficiency as well as ... The Florida Department of Education has a set of standards to outline the expectations of school principals. This paper will address these standards with a focus on organizational skills and manage the operations and resources of a school facility. There are two talking points. The first point focuses on the importance for principals to possess organizational and management skills. A school leader that does not possess organizational skills of time or tasks will have a more difficult time getting staff members to participate in school projects. The principal will not have the needed support of his or her faculty or parents to assure a productive school environment. I witnessed this happen with an Assistant Principal. She was tasked with planning and preparing a parent informational event. She waited until the week prior to the event date to begin preparing materials. When she realized that she would be unable to organize all of the materials needed, she began to delegate tasks to other members of the leadership team. The time frame was so short that the leadership team members were unable to thoroughly complete the given tasks, even with only having to gather portions of the needed materials. This caused undue stress among the team and a loss in credibility for the Assistant Principal. The survey at the end of the event revealed the lack of interest and satisfaction from parents as well.
