2. Key Film Language
There are two key technical components of film which are usually divided into two
categories which are:
Micro Elements - These are aspects within film such as genre, narrative, representation
and mise-en-scene
Macro Elements - These are aspects within film such as costume, make-up, location,
lighting, audience, sound, editing and special effects.
3. Macro Elements
The word ‘Macro’ usually refers to genre as it to do with category the film is in. Because of this, majority of the
focus is based on the narrative being the plot of the film and its audio, so this would usually be whether there is
diegetic sound or non-diegetic sound . Diegetic sound is where both the audience and character are able to hear
something whereas non-diegetic sound is different and is where only the audience can hear something.
Mise-en-scene is also a part of macro because of the location and the setting of the film.
Genre is a term used to a category of media production that are classified as being similar in form or type.
4. Micro Elements
Micro Elements refer to things such as cinematography which is how photography
and camera work in creating films such as the production, acting and editing.
Editing plays a major part within film making as special effects are used with modern
films to attract specific target audiences and can enhance a viewer's experience
when watching a particular film.
