1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions
of real media product?
‘How much does your media work look like a real professional magazine?’
My music magazine pretty much conforms to the audience’s expectations of a
mainstream music magazine. The masthead of my magazine
is conventional to other music magazines as is in a fixed
position and it denotes the nameplate of a publication as it’s
the designed title on the first page in a fixed position. The
name that I have chosen is quite simple and I came to this decision after I did research
asking ten different people, to why they prefer this name. One of the reasons was that
the name is quite simple and it conformed to the reader’s expectations and it lad them
into wanting to read and find out what is about. The name that is given to my magazine
is ‘Element’ the name can also be seen clearly, this is most essential for a magazine, as
it needs to stand and catch the public’s eye attention. However my title is not as big as it
should, the main reason that I choose to leave my title, to this size is because if the title
was to be too big it will have captured most of my page.
Mise-en-scene of images
Looking at the front of my cover magazine for the mise-en scene of the image, the main
thing that stands out the most is the model that I have used. When I did the cover for my
magazine, I tried to associate the model with Taylor Swift. The reasons to why I have
tried to do this is because Taylor Swift is a young white female in her 20’s and by many
teenagers she is considered as a role model , many girls who will read the magazine
will aspire to be like her. Also she is considered to be quite attractive and good looking
by boys. Another stereotype is that the parents consider her a
very safe and no-threatening person as in main magazine her
posing is very calm. This is appealing to my target audience,
as by using Taylor Swift I have looked and analysed the
magazine that she appeared in and in was easier for me in
order to know what to use for mine. The model that I have used
has long hair and her facial expression of smiling, is more
appealing to the younger audience as it is very welcoming and
joyful, which reflects that she is not a threat. This is appealing
to a professional magazine as, analyzing and comparing it to
the Rolling Stone magazine, there isn’t a very great difference3
between them two.
Costumes and props
I have chosen to analyse my content page. The costumes and props that I have
chassed to use in my content page show the conventions of a mainstream music
magazine. The first aspect that can be noticed from my content and cover is the
simplicity of the costumes conventions. The costumes that I have picked reflect the

2. simplicity rather than the studio set clothing. This was a purposeful
choose that I have done , so that my audience can relate with the
characters that I have chossen.The type of clothing that I have
used is classical and simple relating with the everyday clothing that
the readers of the magazine may wear. The type of clothing that I
have chosen to use is stereotypical of the type of genre that my
music magazine will be. As you can see from the models that I
have use the type of clothing is very simple ; looking at the female
model, when I did the photo shoot I had in mind the success
actress Taylor Swift, and I tried to relate to her as by many parents she is
seen as a role model. On the cover page the clothing is very brief and not
much can be seen. The model is warring a white shirt and a necklace we can’t really be
seen. However the bright red lipstick stands out and gives the idea of edgy. Also the fact
that I choose not to use any specific costumes conforms to the pop genre allowing me to
focus more on the artist and not so much on the props and costumes. The male models I
choose them as a part of a band therefore, I choose to dress them up a little crazier, so
that it can create a connection between them and the younger audience. I choose not to
use any musical instrument even if this is a music magazine because I wanted to show a
different side then the singer and the band. The use of the house in the group is to show
that they are a group and that they a mainstream band who the reunited.
People
My content page and double page spread shows the range of people that I have used in
the production of my magazine. There isn’t that much different between the ages of my
characters that I have used, they are all of similar age, considering that the magazine is
aimed towards the teenage audience. Therefore by using this of people I have I targeted
my target audience, which are teenagers. The main concept that is to be considered is
the female dominance shown is all of my three pages. The use of the female model is
was an intentional as this shows that she is the main role of my magazine and mostly it
would attract female readers.
Title font and Style
The font and style of my magazine that I have used are quite simple. I have chosen to
use two different types of fonts for my magazine. The masthead and the subheadings
are in bold, capital letters; this is shown through the font style that I have used...The
fonts that I have used create a comfortable vibe for the audience. The colour that I have
chosen to use matches the conventions. I have used the three house pallets of white,
black and red. The use of the red colour for the title, make it stand out and also this
colour is used by other mainstreams magazines. The red colour is also very eye catchy
and appeals to the audience. The red colour is a little overpowering and it does stand
out.

3. Music genre and how your magazine suggests it
My music magazine conforms to the music genre that is suggested. This can easily be
suggested through the use of costumes and props. Pop music can easily be associated
as being very electronic and is generally thought of as a genre which is commercially
recorded and desires to have a mass audience appeal. I did not use any musical
instruments as I tried to show the genre of my magazine through the use of makeup and
costume. The use of different elements such as the advertise of others concerts and
other pop artist can also suggests the genre of my magazine. In the content page I have
entered some advertise of other pop artists. For example I have entered the picture of a
reunited bad. This created an interesting look and it also suggests my magazine
convention.
