Technologies Learnt from Constructing a Thriller Opening Scene
1. QUESTION 6Whathave you Learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
2. TRIPODWhen I wasfirst introduced to thetripod, I thought it
wasgoing to very difficult to usedueto all of the
alterationsthat can bemadeon it, such astheextension
on thelegs. However onceI had cameto gripswith how
to useit after afew practisesI realised theuseof the
tripod wasgoing to bevery useful and helpful with the
filming of my opening scene.
ThisisbecauseIt helpskeep thecamerastill so that thefilming isnot shaky,
which makesit look very professional. Moreover I found thetripod most useful
when I wasfilming my establishing shot asit helped to createasmooth
movement and I wasableto control thespeed of theshot by how fast I moved
thehandleacross. Thetripod isalso very good to usewhen doing different
cameraangles, for exampleif you werewanting to createthelow angleshot you
would shorten thelegson thetripod and pull thehandledown asfar aspossible
below theperson, thiswould then enhancetheeffect of making that person look
powerful. Thereforeoverall I believethat theuseof thetripod mademy opening
scenelook moreadvanced asit provided stability with thecamera, therefore
making thefilming far moreeasier and enjoyable.
3. CAMERAFor my filming I used a basic Sony camera, using the camera
was much more easier than the tripod as it is much more
self explanatory. However through the filming of my
opening scene I didn’t really have to go into much
technological depth with the camera, as I only really
needed to use the record and zooming in and out buttons.
Moreover the use of the camera allowed me to get clear
focused shots for my opening scene as well as different
types of shots. For example It allowed me to be able to
zoom in and focus on peoples facial expressions for and
emotions for the use of a close up, as well as focus on
the important part of each individual shot. The only
difficulty I had with using the camera was due to the
weather condition not being as it was raining which resulted
in the lense of the camera getting a little wet which
effected the image of the shot as it made it slightly
blurry, however on the other hand it made it look quite
effective as it worked well with my narrative with the use
of pathetic fallacy. The use of the camera also made my
opening scene look much more professional and realistic,
the camera also held a lot of storage which was very
helpful and good as I was able to film a lot different
shots in order to see which ones were going to work the
best.
4. Premier pro
I used Premier Pro to edit my filming. I tended to find it the most difficult to use overall, due to
the fact it was very hard to get my head around as it was very technological and not very
straightforward. I found that I was going on YouTube and watching tutorials on how to edit
things in a certain way as it was very hard to figure out by myself. However once I had come
to basic terms with how to use it through asking my teacher and watching tutorials, the
editing of my opening scene became much more easier and it started to be a faster process.
Moreover Premier pro allows you to cut and trim certain clips in order to get rid of parts that
don’t work so well, for example if the filming went a little shaky or if my actress made a
mistake. This technique also abled me to piece clips together much more easily, in order to
make my opening scene flow as smoothly as possible. Furthermore from the use of premier
pro I learned a lot of different techniques on how to add more tension to my opening scene
by the use of different effects. For example I used the fade in effect in order to create a slow
build up as to what is about to appear on the screen, this effect also allowed my clips to flow
more evenly into each other making it less jumpy. I also used the black and white effect at
the start of my opening scene due to it adds a slightly more ‘creepy’ feeling to the clip.
5. SURVEY MONKEY
I used survey monkey In order to gather feedback from real
audienceson their different trendsand tastes. I found it very
easy and straightforward to use asit wasvery self
explanatory and everything wasclearly set out and
explained well, thereforeI immediately knew how to create
asurvey to how I wanted it. Furthermoresurvey monkey
abled meto receivesomereliableand useful feedback, due
to thefact it allowsyou to post your survey on social media
in order to publiciseit and allow peopleto haveago at it.
From thisI wasableto usethefeedback to help mewith my
opening scene, for exampleit helped mechoosemy target
audiencedueto it allowed to meseewhat typesof age
groupslikewhich typesof thrillers. Moreover It helped me
with what to includeinto my opening scenein order to add
moretension to it and to allow meto meet my target
audienceto abetter degree, becauseI wasableto receive
feedback on what peopleenjoy themost about thriller
movies.
6. YOU TUBEI am already quite familiar with you tube, therefore I found the use of it
pretty easy due to already knowing how to do most things , moreover for
the things that I was little unsure of I was able to pick up how to do it very
easily and quickly due to it being very self explanatory. You tube was very
handy as it allowed me to watch tutorials on the other software's that I
was unfamiliar with and was struggling to use, for example for premier pro I
was struggling with how to do certain effects, therefore I went on you tube
and watched tutorials explaining how to do it, which enabled me to learn
how to do a variety of different effects in order to edit my opening scene
to the best of my ability. Before filming my opening scene I also watched a
range of different thriller openings on you tube in order to give myself some
ideas for my opening scene, I found this really helpful because I was
struggling with my narrative for my opening scene, therefore it helped me
with deciding on ideas for my narrative. Furthermore I also used you tube
in order to upload my opening scene to allow people to be able to access
it and give me feedback.
7. PowerPoint
& wordI used Microsoft PowerPoint and word as a way of presenting some of my
evaluation questions. Both of the software's were very easy to use as I am
already very familiar with them due to using them in previous school
work. They both have a wide range of different techniques and tools that
abled me to make my work look very presentable and interesting. I used
the text box tool in order to place different parts of text in a variety of
different places to make it look more creative, I also added images onto
my PowerPoint and word documents to make it look more colourful and
effective. Moreover I used different fonts in order to separate each
individual text from each other to make them stand out as well as look
different and interesting. I enjoyed using both of the software's as I
thought it was a fun and creative way to show my work.
8. PREZII used Prezi as another way of presenting my evaluation questions, in order
to differentiate my questions and make them as interesting as possible, as
well as making my blog look more visually presentable, due to the fact that
Prezi enables you to present your work in a range of different creative ways in
order to suit the style of your work as well as add images and change the font
and colour of text. Moreover it also allows you to include shapes and have
different backgrounds. I found Prezi very easy and straightforward to use
and I really enjoyed using and experimenting with a different software.
