I Love Going Gay !
I love going gay clubbing! My only problem is wiping the blood off my baseball bat afterwards.
This is only one of the many "gay jokes" you may find in a google search. For a long time
homosexual people have been faced with derogatory jokes and remarks such as the one above. This
has largely to do with the fact that heterosexism is still prevalent in our society. When the world
caters to one form of sexuality over the others, the other variations in sexuality tend to get devalued
or stigmatized (Carrington, 2014). Heterosexism contributes to the development of homophobia,
transphobia, and biphobia in individuals which in turn reflects in our society (Carrington, 2014).
This is mostly because for so long heterosexual orientation prevailed and there was no other option.
Now that these other orientations are beginning to emerge and fight for their place in society,
explanations for the emergence of these varying sexual orientations in humans are occurring more
frequently. A scientific explanation for the development of varying sexual orientations in humans
lies in our genes. This paper will give a brief introduction of genetics, and explain the impact genes
have on the development of sexual orientation proven by genome studies, the fertile female
hypothesis, twin studies, and the threshold model. Before dissecting the relationship of genetics and
homosexuality it will be helpful to give a basic background of genetics. Genetics is the study of
genes and variation in

Group Reflection
Thirdly, I asked John Blu about the activities and discussions that go on during the meetings that
they hold on Thursdays. He stated that"Every meeting is different, there's group conversations when
an issue or situation comes up from a member, there has been presentations on bullying, and there's
activities like speed friending." John Blu continued to talk and started to discuss about how they did
an activity called speed friending He then began giggling and said "It felt like speed dating and that
everyone was there to find a hookup or hook ups, most trying to find bisexuals to experiment with."
I then was shocked about why that was an activity at the meeting and how that educated people.
However, I was not going to let this cloud my judgement before hearing what QUEST had to say
about their meetings. When I went to see QUEST, we met in their conference room, there were no
pride flags like anticipated, nor many cis males or females. The day I went in to observe the group,
there were many people coupled off, that discussed how they all just met and that they met one
another because of QUEST. In that moment I then realized that what John Blu said was very much
true. I began observing them and watching how they were all over each other, which was disturbing
in way because it was PDA. I then watched one of the advisors also be all over one of the new
members of the group. I started to believe maybe the members are there for the wrong reasons and
people were not there to

Gender Equality : A Fundamental Principle Of International...
Gender equality is a basic human right. Yet millions of women around the world continue to
experience discrimination. Some laws prohibit women to access housing, land, and property.
"Economic and social discrimination results in fewer and poorer life choices for women, rendering
them vulnerable to trafficking" (Women's Human Rights and Gender Equality). 30% of women
globally is affected by gender–based violence. Gender equality is achieved when women and men
enjoy the same rights and opportunities across all sectors of society, including economic
participation and decision–making, and when the different behaviours, aspirations and needs of
women and men are equally valued and favoured.
The principle of equality of women and men and the corresponding prohibition of discrimination is
a fundamental principle of international human rights law. Globally, 1 in 3 women will experience
gender–based violence in her lifetime. It took decades of advocacy for gendered diversities to
become effectively acknowledged as relevant to the international human rights system. In this
process, the recognition that "women's rights are human rights" played a central role.
It is highly upsetting that we still need to fight to increase women's access to and control over
decision–making, land, technology, credit, livelihoods and other means of production and social
protection. We fight for women's political and economic empowerment. We need to help support
women in taking on leadership roles and

My Operational Definition Of Social Justice
My operational definition of social justice (the distribution of advantage and disadvantage within a
society) is controversial to my social justice (LGBT Liberation) because they have a disadvantage in
today 's society. It 's controversial because people today are afraid to come out because they 're
afraid of other people 's reactions. Everyone in today 's society depends on other people 's opinions.
On what 's right or what 's the "norm". Many people feel this is a lifestyle choice not part of their
make up. The Supreme Court ruling to allow same sex marriages is still not widely accepts. The
pressure of trying to express who you are can add stress and the stereotypes by others can add an
inability to have a career. The efforts of the LGBT are opening doors for people to be themselves.
Standing up for the LGBT rights is a form of social justice. One of these advocate organizations is
the National Youth Advocacy Coalition. Teenagers as well as adults are faced with these injustices.
My idea of social justice is giving the LGBT the same rights as all other citizens and overcoming
stereotypes.
Some of the groups against this social justice are religious groups and their leaders and right–wing
political leaders (i.e. Tea Party). While many groups are outspoken against LGBT the biggest
problem is still with individual opinions. Many people still are afraid of what they don't understand.
The social justice issue I have chosen for my paper would be LGBT Liberation. I have

What Is LGBT?
LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender and along with heterosexual they describe
people's sexual orientation or gender identity. These terms are explained in more detail here.
Lesbian
A lesbian woman is one who is romantically, sexually and/or emotionally attracted to women. Many
lesbians prefer to be called lesbian rather than gay.
Gay
A gay man is one who is romantically, sexually and/or emotionally attracted to men. The word gay
can be used to refer generally to lesbian, gay and bisexual people but many women prefer to be
called lesbian. Most gay people don't like to be referred to as homosexual because of the negative
historical associations with the word and because the word gay better reflects their ... Show more

Sexual orientation also refers to a person's sense of identity based on those attractions, related
behaviours, and membership in a community of others who share those attractions. Three sexual
orientations are commonly recognised – heterosexual, homosexual (gay and lesbian) and bisexual.
Homophobia
Homophobia refers to fear of or prejudice and discrimination against lesbian, gay and bisexual
people. It is also the dislike of same–sex attraction and love or the hatred of people who have those
feelings. The term was first used in the 1970s and is more associated with ignorance, prejudice and
stereotyping than with the physiological reactions usually attributed to a 'phobia'. While
homophobic comments or attitudes are often unintentional, they can cause hurt and offence to
lesbian, gay and bisexual people.
Transphobia
Transphobia refers to fear of or prejudice and discrimination against people who are transgender or
who are perceived to transgress norms of gender, gender identity or gender expression. While
transphobic comments or attitudes are often unintentional, they can cause hurt and offence to
transgender people.

Erikson 's Crisis Theory And Marcia 's Four Stages Of...
Abstract
In this essay, Erikson Identity Crisis theory and Marcia's four stages of Identity Statuses
demonstrates how adolescences analyze and make decisions about one's identity. Many
adolescences struggle with decisions about where they fit in. Also, in this essay I will explain how
you know you are LGBTQIA and I will discuss why so many adolescence of LGBTQIA have a hard
time fitting in with society. The intent of this essay is to discuss the problems of LGBTQIA
adolescences and why the impact of LGBTQIA is mainly in adolescent ages and the discrimination
based on sexual orientation & gender identity.
Adolescence is a dynamically evolving theoretical construct informed through physiologic,
psychosocial, temporal, and cultural lenses. The most readily recognized hallmark of adolescence is
the pubertal metamorphosis or chest rating the visible transformation of a "child" into an "adult.
Development occurs both within the individual and through interactions with the environment. At
the stage of adolescences, it's hard for teenagers to figure out their sexual identity because girls
menstruate cycle begins, the level of adult hormones increases, the pubic hairs begin to grow,
development of sex interest increase, and one begins to wonder who they really are. The process of
accepting one's sexual orientation is particularly difficult for adolescents who identify as LGBTQIA
and face that is not necessarily accepting of anything outside traditional expectation of

Effects Of Discrimination And Minority Stress
Discrimination and Minority Stress As stated earlier previous studies have reported decreased
resilience among LGBA+ populations, however, it is important to note that identifying, as LGBA+
does not inherently cause the distress that is the source of poorer levels of mental health and
resilience. Instead, it is a reaction the previously stated statistics representing shocking levels of
exposure to discrimination, which also take the form of microaggressions. Micro–aggressions are
aimed at minority groups and are a form of assault that can exist in a variety of forms either verbal
or nonverbal, as well as be intentional or unintentional on behalf of the perpetrator.
Microaggressions have previously been linked to increased mental health difficulties in the form of
increased anxiety in African American University Students (Smith, Allen, & Danley, 2007). As
individuals worldwide of multiple ethnicities, ages, religiosity, and able–bodiedness may identify as
LGBA+, taking into account, this intersectionality and how it impacts on resilience is necessary to
our understanding of LGBA+ populations. An individual who identifies both as a sexual minority
and as an ethnic minority may have the effects of such discrimination and micro–aggressions
compounded resulting in overall poorer resilience as the stressors experienced an increase (Balsam,
Molina, Beadnell, Simoni, & Walters, 2011). The Intersectionality between ethnicity and sexual
identity also has a clear impact on social

Another thing that shows Hamburg has the best interest when it comes to sexuality is that there is

where "St. Pauli and St. Georg both have clusters of gay bars and clubs" (Schwen, 2016, para.

festivities that take place, and there is transportation provided for these individuals that want to
attend. They also have a website that you can access to see all of the upcoming events. Also, there is

Also, we understand that there does not always have to be violence for this to occur. Homophobic
harassment could also occur. According to Lynda Dowling, Katherine Eastaughffe, Una Harkin, and
Shelley Argent (n.d.), "Harassment is repeated unwanted conduct which either violates a person's
dignity, or creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for that
person. These things include name calling, teasing, and homophobic jokes" (p. 1). Although it is
pretty challenging to actually stop harassment, we will try our best to minimize the amount of
harassment that occurs. We will have posters posted all over the city bringing awareness to
sexuality. The International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia organization
could definitely help with this, because as stated before they believe the same thing we do. There
will also be hotline numbers posted around the cities and in the facilities that the athletes will be
participating in. These hotlines are here for individuals that experience violence, or harassment as a
result of homophobia and transphobia. We will do our best to gain sponsors or partnerships that have
the same mindset as us and would like to help the LGBT community. This should not be hard
because there are a lot of companies that totally disagree with homophobia and transphobia. Two
examples of these companies are Arcus Foundation and

GLBT community, which is defined as a group of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgenders. The
LGBT community organizes a lot of support and movement for civil rights all around the world, for
example, parades. The paper in mind for this integrative project will be discussing about how North
Americans became more approachable to be acceptant towards the LGBT community mainly
concentrating in Canada and the United States. This topic is relevant for the world we live in since;

The concept of homophobia/biphobia/transphobia will be relevant to the research since it will
further explain why and how other's develop these "phobias" and will allow in depth to understand
people's behaviour towards this community. History defines as "the study of past events and past
key characters". The concepts reinforced in this discipline will be the key events that altered the way
individuals saw the LGBT community, and key characters who changed the way people perceived
the LGBT community. These issues will help to understand the improvement and diminishment with
key events and key characters from the past six decades. It is in fact true, North Americans societal
attitudes have increased according to researches, that society is more accepting toward the LGBT
community. However, only 19% from the LGBT community says there is a lot of social acceptance
in our current world. Whereas a lot of the people from this group says they still have been rejected
by their family and been called by slurs or jokes. However, the media has been working a lot more
into spreading the message of the acceptance and equality amongst this discriminated community.
Brands and medias (television shows, movies, reality shows) have been including people from the
LGBT community in their work, for example, Disney kids TV shows now show same–sex parents
and American Eagle includes gay couples and heterosexual couples in their commercials. This paper

Ellen Pence Ellen Pence was born on April 15th 1948 in Minneapolis, Minnesota (Bradkin, 2016).
She had a son, Liam McCormick, with her partner, Amanda McCormick (Bradkin, 2016). Jeffrey
Edleson (2010) portrayed Ellen as comical with a dry sarcastic humor and would love teasing
people. Battered Women's Justice Project (2016), depicted Ellen as a critical analyst, a
compassionate listener, and committed to social justice. She obtained her Bachelor's Degree from St.
Scholastica (Bradkin, 2016). Ellen later received her Doctorate in Sociology at The University of

The Duluth Model The Duluth Model was created by Ellen and her colleagues, one being Michael
Paymar, at DAIP (Edleson, 2010). The Duluth Model is an interventional and educational course for
male batterers to shift the focus from the female victim (Edleson, 2010). The goal of the Duluth
Model is to reeducate men on having a healthy nonviolent relationship. Katherine Van Wormer and
Susan G. Bednar (2002) mentioned how the Duluth Model is grounded on the idea that men batter to
have control, power, and display dominance. In addition, Van Wormer and Bednar (2002) discussed
a key part of the course called the Power and Control Wheel.
The Power and Control Wheel The Power and Control Wheel is a diagram that was created based on
life experiences of 200 battered women (Van Wormer & Bednar, 2002). Ellen Pence surrounded the
Power and Control Wheel with different approaches men use to sustain power and control in the
relationship besides physical violence. Ellen believed that men not only desired power and control,
but also felt they had the privilege of deserving power and control due to their gender (Batered
Women's Justice Project, 2016). According to Ellen's research through the 200 battered women, the
methodologies that men use are: coercion and threats, intimidation, emotional abuse, isolation,
minimizing, denying and blaming, using children, using male privilege, in addition to economic
abuse (Van Wormer & Bednar, 2002).

The Philippines is a highly populated country occupied by a total of 94.013 million Filipinos as of
August 31st, 2009 and with a rapid increasing population rate of 1.957% per year, and 9.447 percent
of this population are adolescents according to National Statistics Office (NSO).
Adolescents are naturally curious about many things including their bodies and sexual functions.
With these, some adolescents engage in genital plays that may lead to sexual intercourse. One of the
reasons of the rapid increase in population is the involvement of young adults to premarital sex.

For most shows, the LGBTQ characters either a) get written off, or b) fall into heteronormative
gender ideals. When a writer does decide to add a queer character seen beyond the use of the "one

Bisexual and Transgender characters much harder to come by. In most situations characters and
audiences react to bisexual characters just as Erica Hahn did with Callie in season 5 when she said,

Sexual Orientation Is The Dominant, Or Normal, Sexual, And...
Introduction
Sexual orientationism is best described as discrimination or prejudice against homosexuals on the
assumption that heterosexuality is the dominant, or normal, sexual orientation. Within society there
are many barriers, assumptions, and stigmas placed upon the queer community, numerous of which
steam from this heterosexist stance that has become the dominant ideology. This stance has
historical significance in trauma, and oppression of those within the sexual minority, and how this
can play on representation.
Social Location
Because sexual orientationism, or homophobia, is something that is unconsciously encouraged since
our youth by the media and its lack of representation of the queer community, there is often a lot of
work that has to be done internally in order to understand and accept homosexuality, regardless of
whether you identify with or simply wish to be an ally. My understanding of my privilege or
oppression with sexual orientation comes from many years of internally restructuring my own
understanding of societal norms. I had a much easier time of accepting the community from my
mother who was always there to encourage my acceptance, and growth not only of, but within the
community. As an individual who identifies as a pansexual male, my deconstruction of what was
proposed as the norm, and reconciling that with my own understanding of what I felt inside to be
true was fairly straight forward, but no less substantial. However, I do recognize my own

Bisexuality As A Social Construct Essay
Sexuality and Gender are social constructs. They are more like fluid concepts. Both are on
spectrums. Why could they be considered controversial topics, more specifically the spectrum?
Well, the idea of sexuality being more than just heterosexuality has been challenged by conservative
types and others alike for years. They may even deem anything other than heterosexuality as
something abnormal and immoral. For some, it can be quite difficult to understand that sexuality is
on a spectrum. Especially with identities like bisexuality and pansexuality, it can be difficult for
some people to wrap their minds around that idea. In recent years, the idea of gender being more
than just male and female has been getting more and more attention. It is no longer sex that defines
people, but gender identity, expression, and presentation. They are not fully understood and
sometimes not accepted by people; unfortunately some of that ignorance, and much to my surprise,
come from people within the LGBTQ+ community. A lack of understanding about the spectrums of
sexuality and gender leads to a lot of confusion, hate, and ignorance. The acronym LGBT has
expanded over time to include other identities, becoming LGBTQ+. Whereas heterosexuality means
that a person is attracted to the opposite sex, homosexuality mean that one is attracted to the same
sex. Bisexuality means that one is attracted to both men and women; however the attraction is not
always fifty–fifty; in fact, one can like one gender

Sexual Orientation And Gender Orientation Essay

Paper 4
Sexual orientation
The theme that we have been focusing on in class for the past two weeks is sexual orientation.
Sexual orientation is more complex than just the gender a person is attracted to. Instead sexual
orientation is on more of a spectrum. On one end of the spectrum a person can be solely
heterosexual and on the opposite side a person can be completely homosexual. This also means that
a person can be bisexual if they identify more in the middle of the spectrum. The spectrum allows
for all individuals of all different sexualities to have a place on the spectrum. In the films Chasing
Amy and XXY we see two individuals who are more fluid with their sexuality and do not identify
with being solely homosexual or solely heterosexual.
The movie Chasing Amy is about a woman named Alyssa. Alyssa faces many judgments from her
friends when she tells them that she is now seeing a man. Alyssa's friends who were all lesbians
judged her for now dating a man. This is because they thought that Alyssa was a lesbian. Her friends
were judging her because she was maybe becoming a bi sexual and not a lesbian like she thought
she had been, "Biphobia, like homophobia, is prejudice based on negative stereotypes. It is often
born of ignorance" (Diehl, Ochs p.385). Throughout the movie Alyssa had to explain her sexual past
because of her sexual orientation. She was judged and belittled due to being a bi sexual, and when
her past relationships were brought up they were

Sexuality As A Social Construct
Hannah St. Lifer
Sexuality as a Social Construct
Heternormativity is the idea that there exist two distinctive classifications of the genders, males and
females, with customary roles in society. The idea asserts that heterosexuality is the only normal
sexual orientation of people and that all sexual and marital relations must abide by this norm.
Society has adopted this belief and constructed it into a standard of life. It is normal for people to
automatically presume that most other people are heterosexual and that heterosexuality is the default
sexual preference. Thus, all other sexualities that are nonheterosexual are a deviation of the default.
Heterosexuality is the most appreciative and is the most acceptable sexuality for a man and ... Show

Monogamous, reproductive heterosexuality is also valued socially above all other forms of
sexuality. Society has constructed the belief that heterosexuality is the ideal sexual identity, and
society subsequently critiques non–heterosexual identities, such as gays, bisexuals, and trans, which
all fall outside this custom.
As a consequence of society deeming heterosexuality as the ideal sexuality, sexualities that are
biologically infertile are less socially acceptable in society. Nonheterosexuals are seen as deviants
and consequently mocked and ridiculed by society. Gayle proposes that same sex relationships are
inferiors, but, "stable, long–term lesbian and gay couples are verging on respectability, but bar dykes
and promiscuous gay men are hovering just above the groups at the very bottom of the pyramid."
For instance, society already considers gay males to be lower on the hierarchy, but those males,
which are less masculine, are even lower on the pyramid. Society has constructed these "less
masculine" gays to be "more gay". However, homosexual males that still obtain monogamous
relationships are more appreciated in respect to gays who are not in relationships. For example,
famous gay couples such as Ellen DeGeneres's relationship, and the gay marriage portrayed on
Modern Family, are valued in society. These are higher up on the pyramid because both gay couples
are in stable relationships that

Exemplification Essay: Is America A Perfect Society?
A long, long time ago in a country not so far away, the king and queen of Spain decided they wanted
to find a better way to get to China in order to have many more splendid robes. Back in the olden
days, the Silk Road in China was popular. Anybody who was anybody wanted to find a way to get
there by sea. What better way to exert superiority than to send an explorer in search of the first water
route to Asia? So, the king and queen gave this important job to a young explorer by the name of
Christopher Columbus. The poor man was so terrible at directions, he landed on a completely new
continent that was certainly not Asia. Columbus decided to name this new land "America." Soon
after telling of his discovery, several European nations began settling in the New World. The only
problem they faced, other than new diseases and famine for the first few years, was the natives that

The Is The Romantic And / Or Sexual Attraction For More...
Bisexuality is the romantic and/or sexual attraction to more than one gender. Those who identify as
bisexual are attracted to male, female, and sometimes the non–binary genders. Non–binary genders
can include those who are transgender, agender, and genderfluid. Bisexuality is a separate sexuality
from pansexuality. Pansexuality which is the romantic and/or sexual attraction to all genders. Like
the sexuality and gender spectrums bisexuality is also a spectrum. One can be bisexual but only
desire those of the male and female gender. Another could only find those who are non–binary and
the female gender attractive, ect.
Within the mainstream and LGBTQ+ communities the issue of bisexual erasure is quite prevalent.
Bisexual erasure is the act of ignoring or removing the existence of bisexuality from primary
sources. Bisexual erasure is a form of biphobia, the aversion to bisexuality and bisexual people. It
can also include the denial of the existence of bisexuality. Female bisexuality has been the most
ignored and unbelieved form of bisexuality. Today's denial of female bisexuality is a product of
traditional disenfranchisement of female sexuality. By comparing John Wilmont, Earl of Rochester's
poem "Song" to Aphra Behn's poem "To the Fair Clarinda" the existence and erasure of female
bisexuality becomes clear. Rochester, a known bisexual, wrote "Song" in 1680. The work focuses on
the narrator's, Rochester's, view on choosing women as romantic partners. The poem

How Counsellors Overcome Difference And Diversity
We live in a massive multi–cultural society. But how can this affect the therapeutic relationship
between a counsellor and their client? The definition of Diversity according to the Collins
Dictionary is "1. The state or quality of being different or varied. 2.A point of difference. 3.(logic)
the relation that hold between two entities when and only when they are not identical; the property
of being numerically distinct. (Collins 2014). In this essay I will be investigating how counsellors
overcome difference and diversity and also look into arguments which state that you cannot
overcome these differences in a therapeutic relationship; you just need to learn to accept you have
differences and move on with the relationship. As Kipling (1889) wrote in 'The Ballard of East and
West ' "Oh, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet", which suggests that
maybe East and West cultures will never truly overcome their differences and may never be able to
understand each other and each other's cultures to the full extent. Whereas Carl Rodgers believes as
long as you use the Core Conditions you are able to help someone become their true organismic self
including people from different ethnic backgrounds, different cultures, sexuality and people with
disabilities who have the capacity to work with the counsellor. Most people at some point in their
lives will have faced problems with people who have differences, whether it be someone else who

The Society Has Made Progress : Economically, Politically,...
The society has made progress: economically, politically, and now is more open–minded. People is
started to accept and released that the United States is a country with a large range of diversity.
Starting from tall, shorts, Hispanics, white, black, Asians; but also, the society started to integrate
people with different types of sexuality. New laws for equal marriage arrived, surprising some in
good ways. Even though they accepted that people from the same–sex can get marriage, there still is
a lot of hatred toward them. Not only to homosexuals. Unfortunately, they haven 't being completely
acceptive with bisexuals. They don 't have it easier than homosexuals. They don 't have it simple,
and they have struggle with things like: society, LGBT, and dating. Society catalyze them as people
who you can 't trust, because they are confused or they just want to have sex.
Now where the society is finally accepting homosexuality, you would think they will accept
bisexuality but no. The thing is that the society thinks you are either: gay, straight, or lying; you like
boys as well as girls; that you are either heterosexual or homosexual. Thanks to this, Bisexuals have
always been labeled and judged to actually be gay or lesbian because people claim that a bisexual, is
just covering that he or she is homosexual. Also, many people think they are just people who can 't
decide which side or which way to go. People who can't define their sexuality. This is not true. Have

Community Engagement Papers
In this report, I will talk about my community engagement that pertain to LGBT books for prisoners.
the main goal here was to get books sent to the LGBT prisoners in the United States. The target of
people they send to are queer and transgender. This program has been able to run because of the
volunteers and the outside donations that they receive from the public through their advertisement
on Facebook, word of mouth and throughout the community engagement with college students and
through the media, this all started in a basement. The founder was Dennis Bergren he was a teacher
in the Madison schools and later in his life he came out as gay. When he chooses to retire, he started

I also see that no one's here to judge you on who you are there all have a common goal and that is all
people should be treated equally no matter what their gender or identity is. Another main reason I
choose this is because I feel no matter what you do in life we all make mistakes and if you have
someone there to listen and guide you maybe then your choice will be different. When working
alongside the other volunteers I would say it's uncomfortable not knowing anyone but they were all
very pleasant people. They showed me around and introduce me to everyone there and asked me
what I'd like to do and me being scared to make a mistake I said wrapping that way I can't mess that
up. What surprise me the most is how much reading material they get donated and how many
authors donate their own books. Also, I thought it was going to be just books related to sexual
orientation. But it was all kinds of books from educational to recreational sometimes we don't
realize what we have until we see how people can be treated in prison when they lose all the rights
and what's sad is that even behind bars you're not treated fairly. What I mean by this, here you're in
prison and lose all rights, but on top of that because you recognize with a different identity your

Personal Narrative: Overcoming Challenges
Overall, my first semester has been going pretty well. The semester is going like a roller coaster up,
down, and fast. I have some bad days and some good days. Through this semester, I have many
challenges I faced which I honestly did not want to face. Even though I just wanted to dodge or run
away from the challenges, I still face them and fought through them. Some challenges I face this
semester, hopefully not in the next, are procrastination, time management, and laziness. I have not
only gone through challenges; I have also gone through successes. I am proud of turning
assignments on time, passing tests and quizzes, completing my SCR points, and being involved in
clubs. Being in Biomed has helped me grow as a student in the area of knowledge. ... Show more

I need to overcome procrastination which I believe is the only thing holding me back. All my classes
helped me grow as a student and global citizen, and hopefully, they will still help me grow. Biomed
is one class I am grateful to have. Biomed will help me grow in many ways. Having classes and
clubs helping me grow will help me in semesters to come/after high school and beyond in so many
ways. I will definitely need skills like communication, recognizing perspectives, knowledge in
colleges. I need to be a global citizen to be able to learn and be the change. How will I stand up and
be the change if I do not know how to communicate or take action? Being the change is doing
something you want to see. For example, if I want homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, etc to be gone
I should stop being homophobic, biphobic, transphobic, etc. I read a podcast called Being the
Change by Lewis Howes and the podcast is very inspiring. Before I did not really have a solid,
permanent definition for "being the change", but after reading the podcast it open my eyes on new
perspectives. One part really stand out to me which is, "Being the change means being peaceful if I
want to see peace in the world. Being the change means eradicating the tendency for violence and
power and fear within myself, so that one person at a time is affected by my way of being. If I am

The Position Of A Hr Manager At Both The Uk And Russian...
Introduction:
Throughout this assignment I will be placing myself in the position of a HR manager at both the UK
and Russian Olympics and I will discuss possible issues that LGBT Olympians may face in such
contexts. I will identify key challenges that I may face when introducing and implementing equality
and diversity measures if the Olympic Games were to happen again today. I will approach such a
task by first outlining the history and definitions associated with LGBT. I will frame this essay by
drawing upon social and political changes through the enactment of laws and social movements, as
well as empirical research, class–based discussions, and theories of equality and diversity.

Currently there are 76 countries where homosexuality is illegal and in 5 it carries the death penalty
(Wical, 2014; Stonewall, 2015b). As the UK government and Stonewall (2015b) estimates that there
are 3.6 million LGB people in Britain, which is thought to be an underestimate and does not include
transgender people, it is not difficult to imagine the hundreds of millions of people living in fear of
prejudice, oppression and death worldwide.
A brief history of LGBT movements and attitudes, and current social and political movements in
both countries:
In 1987, the British Social Attitudes Survey found that 75% of the population held homosexual
activity to be "always or mostly wrong", with just 11% believing it to be never wrong (1987: 4). As
of 2012, those figures showed that attitudes had altered to 28% and 47% respectively (2012: 5). As
of 2015 Stonewall expanded its current campaigns and programmes to "include and involve" trans
people and also "developed new work on issues that specifically affect them" (Stonewall, 2015c).
LGBT citizens have most of the same legal rights as non–LGBT citizens and the UK provides "one
of the highest degrees of liberty in the world for its LGBT communities". This was documented in
the ILGA–Europe (2014) review of LGBT rights which gave the UK with the highest score in
Europe; they

What are Ontario schools doing? Other Canadian Schools doing?
EGALE Canada Human Rights Trust, is Canada's only national charity that advocates LGBT human
rights in Canada. EGALE released in 2011 the First Report on the National Climate Survey on
homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia in Canadian schools, that assessed the opinions of 3700
students (LGBT and non–LGBT) all over Canada (Taylor et al. 2011). The survey began in 2007
and concluded in 2009 (Taylor et al. 2011). The report's results proved that the two most unsafe
spaces for LGBT students were physical education change rooms and washrooms (Taylor et al.
2011). In fact, 43% of LGBT students thought their school washrooms were unsafe, 41% of students
with LGBT parents thought the washrooms at their schools were unsafe and 28% of Non–LGBT
students agreed (Taylor et al. 2011).

Homosexuality In Grey's Anatomy
Grey's Anatomy has been one of the most popular shows on network television since 2005. While
most critics and fans agree that the first three seasons were the shows best, the storylines in the later
seasons have still been able to add new and progressive ideas into the forefront of the show. The
biggest change in storyline is when they introduced their first LGBTQ–identifying main character,
Callie Torres. For many queer fans of the show, the addition of Callie's character was extremely
monumental. As highly regarded lesbian and bisexual blog AfterEllen noted, it was quite
unprecedented to have an LGBTQ–identifying character on such a popular network television show

This idea has trickled through the LGBTQ community through the years and as Carrie Wofford
explains in Outweek magazine in 1991, it seems that for some members of the LGBTQ community,
bisexuality does not exist and, "they say people [who call themselves bisexual] are just afraid to
come out [as gay]" (33). Biphobia is real within the community even today. As seen in multiple
recent studies towards bisexual discrimination, it seems that although heterosexuals are more likely
to express their biphobia, "[the] discrimination from the lesbian and gay community, was
statistically significantly higher," than it was expected to be (Allen). However, that is not to say that
all people have these feelings. Support for the LGBTQ community within the entertainment industry
has been progressing slowly over time . Since the "B" in LGBTQ was added in the 1990s, bisexuals
have faced many issues because they fit in, "both the 'straight world' and the 'gay world'" (Exquis).
As this site explains, bisexuals not only have to deal with biphobia, but many other forms of
discrimination that makes it extremely difficult for them to survive in today's society – the same
goes for transgender people. Grey's took notice of this issue and ultimately became an ally for the

Healthcare In The LGBT Community
There are many minorities in the United States of America making it one of the largest melting pots
in the world. Unfortunately, due to the vast variety of people, there are many minorities that lack the
proper access to healthcare resources that cater to their healthcare needs both mentally and
physically. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community, also known as the LGBT
community, face many hurdles when it comes to receiving the proper healthcare. They also
encompass many different races, religions, ethnicities and social classes. According to a recent
national and state–level population–based surveys, "8 million adults in the US are lesbian, gay, or
bisexual, comprising 3.5% of the adult population" (Gates, 2011). Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and

impact on a global market. Another area would be human geography. Discussions on subjects like
income equality, literacy rates, and mortality rates in relation to gender, race, class, and the

To receive marks in this range I am prepared to manage my time, and always have time to complete

6. What expectations do you have of the teacher? Be specific.
My expectations of the teacher are really just to teach the entire curriculum well, and in an

The Oppression Of Opposite Sex Sexuality And Relationships
Journal Heterosexism is the oppression of opposite–sex sexuality and relationships. In our society
heterosexuals is the normal and those who do not fit into this category are shunned. Throughout
history, "homosexuality and bisexuality have been called many things; from sin, sickness, and
crime, to orientation, identity and even a gift from God." (372). Labels and judgments are
justifications for society to marginalize people due to their sexuality. Our society tends to look for
ways to justify homosexuality by looking for "deficiencies" through "medical or psychological
terms" (373). Language is another powerful tool that society uses to gain authority in order to define
the normative. Language can dehumanize homosexuality by using words such as "queer, faggot, and
dyke" in order to gain empowerment over their sexuality. The efforts to make homosexuality inferior
in our society, causes heterosexuals to view homosexuality in negative terms. From a young age,
society teaches us to be heterosexuals and those who go against the norms are viewed as
"trespassing" (399). In the essay "How Homophobia Hurts Everyone" a quote by Douglas shares
how society manipulates our perceptions. In the quote Douglas recalls his slave masters wife as a
kind lady whom allowed "slavery to divest her of her heavenly qualities. Under its influence, the
tender heart became stone, and the lamblike disposition gave way to one of tiger like fierceness"
(381). It is important to realize that as a society

What Does It Mean? America? Essay
There is a lack of information and misrepresentation when it comes to non–monosexual/romantic
orientations such as bisexuality. Some of the vocabulary that it used to describe this orientation can
be misleading. Bisexual has the prefix of bi, meaning two, but the orientation itself is more broad
than the sexual attraction to just two genders. What is also commonly unknown is that bisexuality is
also a romantic orientation. There is little information out there concerning bisexual people and such
a lack of resources may have them looking for answers that are not, but should be out there.
Alternatively, most of the information that is out there and available is wrong and delegitimizes
bisexuality. America is a monosexual society in its history, legislation, and media. Bisexuality has
constantly been misrepresented because of America 's monosexual standard towards individuals.
Bisexuality is often is disregarded by America 's monosexual society. There is an underlying layer of
bierasure that has been happening for decades, and no one, but those affected, notices because that is
the point. Bierasure is the removal of bisexual representation throughout all platforms. When
information and awareness is removed, misrepresentation beings to arise. For bisexuality, the myths
made up about it are endless and only add to the generally biphobic nation that is America. Biphobia

sources. The world seems to be celebrating the death of homophobia because America made same

Bi–erasure is so harmful because it attacks all that bisexual people believe in like the media, law and
gay pride. Another thing bisexuals have to deal with is that bisexuals are the least supported and
least served minority group within the entire LGBT community with just .01 % of all LGBT funding
directed toward bisexual projects or programs since 1970. More than bisexuals not being supported
research suggests that bisexuals suffer worse mental health than heterosexuals, lesbians, and gay
men. Bisexuals have higher rates of suicide, self harm, mood disorders and depression than any
other sexuality and one common reason for this is how tough it is to be an "out" bisexual in todays
society. This is one of the biggest factors as to why bi–erasure is so harmful to people. Our culture is

Gay Marriage Should Be Legal
"We're here, we're queer, get over it." In 1990, these words, shouted and displayed proudly on signs
waved by the activist group, Queer Nation, were revolutionary. Never, not since the Stonewall Riots,
had non–straight, non–cis people been so vocal about their existence and demanded acceptance –
something that straight people take for granted on a daily basis. However, in the years since the
Riots, LGBT activism has become much more mainstream, no longer whispered about behind closet
doors or something to be wholly ashamed of. Gay marriage is legal in all 50 United States,
something that has been fought for since the conception of the LGBT movement. In fact, gay
couples are routinely being featured on popular television and other forms of media. Some might
say that in 2016, the dreams of the rioters in Stonewall have been realized. Marriage rights and the
spotlight on nighttime television; equality seems to truly be right on the horizon. If one is a white,
cis, gay man, that is. Gay women are features much less frequently, and gay or lesbian people of
color even less so. With the exception of Laverne Cox on Orange Is the New Black, Netflix's
runaway prison hit, transgender people of color are rarely allowed to grace the television of the
average American. Though some may sing the praises of LGBT activism and claim that gay people
are now so mainstream that there is no need for further discussion to be made about queer issues,
others disagree. Others that were not blessed

LGBT rights, and how this motion is not "brave," as much as it is financially beneficial. As we

Should straight authors stop writing queer characters and relationships for fear of misrepresenting
them? While that may be effective in stopping the misrepresentation, that line of thinking will not
solve the problem. Queer authors will still lack a voice in the writing community, and the issue will
be taken back to square one. One solution would be to further educate straight writers on how to
write queer characters, and the dangers of mishandling them. Most non–queer authors have
wonderful intentions of being inclusive, but their works fall short because of the unfamiliarity with
the subject matter. A better solution would be to provide an efficient platform for queer voices to
write about their own experiences and communities. Queer authors should be promoted better so
their work is seen rather than cast off to the side for what straight audiences find appealing in terms
of seeing onscreen gay characters. And this includes queer women and trans people who are so often

Is it okay to be bisexual? In the queer sphere bisexuality is almost seen as a taboo. It's seen as people

Queer Culture Has Long Been K.d. Lang, Ellen Degeneres,...
The faces of Queer Culture has long been K.D. Lang, Ellen Degeneres, and Elton John. While these
icons represent the queer community in that they are gay individuals, they are not wholly
representative of the community because there is no one "queer story." However, these icons all
have cisgender, white privilege which results in a great dearth of representation for transgender,
non–binary, and people of color in the media. Another issue with queer representation in the media
is the differentiation between gender expression and sexual orientation. Gender expression
associated with masculinity such as short hair, loose clothing, and rough materials such as denim
when worn by a woman is seen as a demarcation of "alternative" sexualities. However, those
assumptions neglect to recognize the diversity of gender expression. Gender expression among
heterosexuals varies greatly with some men presenting as "metrosexual" and some women
presenting as "tomboys." Similarly, this type of variation exists within the LGBTQ+ community as
members can range from "femme" to "butch" to androgynous. Portia de Rossi would be a classic
example of a "femme" lesbian in terms of her long hair and frequent wearing of dresses. Often times
these feminine lesbians, if they are portrayed at all, are often used to attract male audiences.
However, Orange is the New Black challenges these conventions through the genres of Sophia
Burset, Piper Chapman, and Big Boo. Sophia Burset breaks the cisgender, white

I Love Going Gay !

  • 1. I Love Going Gay ! I love going gay clubbing! My only problem is wiping the blood off my baseball bat afterwards. This is only one of the many "gay jokes" you may find in a google search. For a long time homosexual people have been faced with derogatory jokes and remarks such as the one above. This has largely to do with the fact that heterosexism is still prevalent in our society. When the world caters to one form of sexuality over the others, the other variations in sexuality tend to get devalued or stigmatized (Carrington, 2014). Heterosexism contributes to the development of homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia in individuals which in turn reflects in our society (Carrington, 2014). This is mostly because for so long heterosexual orientation prevailed and there was no other option. Now that these other orientations are beginning to emerge and fight for their place in society, explanations for the emergence of these varying sexual orientations in humans are occurring more frequently. A scientific explanation for the development of varying sexual orientations in humans lies in our genes. This paper will give a brief introduction of genetics, and explain the impact genes have on the development of sexual orientation proven by genome studies, the fertile female hypothesis, twin studies, and the threshold model. Before dissecting the relationship of genetics and homosexuality it will be helpful to give a basic background of genetics. Genetics is the study of genes and variation in ... • 5. Group Reflection Thirdly, I asked John Blu about the activities and discussions that go on during the meetings that they hold on Thursdays. He stated that"Every meeting is different, there's group conversations when an issue or situation comes up from a member, there has been presentations on bullying, and there's activities like speed friending." John Blu continued to talk and started to discuss about how they did an activity called speed friending He then began giggling and said "It felt like speed dating and that everyone was there to find a hookup or hook ups, most trying to find bisexuals to experiment with." I then was shocked about why that was an activity at the meeting and how that educated people. However, I was not going to let this cloud my judgement before hearing what QUEST had to say about their meetings. When I went to see QUEST, we met in their conference room, there were no pride flags like anticipated, nor many cis males or females. The day I went in to observe the group, there were many people coupled off, that discussed how they all just met and that they met one another because of QUEST. In that moment I then realized that what John Blu said was very much true. I began observing them and watching how they were all over each other, which was disturbing in way because it was PDA. I then watched one of the advisors also be all over one of the new members of the group. I started to believe maybe the members are there for the wrong reasons and people were not there to ... • 9. Gender Equality : A Fundamental Principle Of International... Gender equality is a basic human right. Yet millions of women around the world continue to experience discrimination. Some laws prohibit women to access housing, land, and property. "Economic and social discrimination results in fewer and poorer life choices for women, rendering them vulnerable to trafficking" (Women's Human Rights and Gender Equality). 30% of women globally is affected by gender–based violence. Gender equality is achieved when women and men enjoy the same rights and opportunities across all sectors of society, including economic participation and decision–making, and when the different behaviours, aspirations and needs of women and men are equally valued and favoured. The principle of equality of women and men and the corresponding prohibition of discrimination is a fundamental principle of international human rights law. Globally, 1 in 3 women will experience gender–based violence in her lifetime. It took decades of advocacy for gendered diversities to become effectively acknowledged as relevant to the international human rights system. In this process, the recognition that "women's rights are human rights" played a central role. It is highly upsetting that we still need to fight to increase women's access to and control over decision–making, land, technology, credit, livelihoods and other means of production and social protection. We fight for women's political and economic empowerment. We need to help support women in taking on leadership roles and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. My Operational Definition Of Social Justice My operational definition of social justice (the distribution of advantage and disadvantage within a society) is controversial to my social justice (LGBT Liberation) because they have a disadvantage in today 's society. It 's controversial because people today are afraid to come out because they 're afraid of other people 's reactions. Everyone in today 's society depends on other people 's opinions. On what 's right or what 's the "norm". Many people feel this is a lifestyle choice not part of their make up. The Supreme Court ruling to allow same sex marriages is still not widely accepts. The pressure of trying to express who you are can add stress and the stereotypes by others can add an inability to have a career. The efforts of the LGBT are opening doors for people to be themselves. Standing up for the LGBT rights is a form of social justice. One of these advocate organizations is the National Youth Advocacy Coalition. Teenagers as well as adults are faced with these injustices. My idea of social justice is giving the LGBT the same rights as all other citizens and overcoming stereotypes. Some of the groups against this social justice are religious groups and their leaders and right–wing political leaders (i.e. Tea Party). While many groups are outspoken against LGBT the biggest problem is still with individual opinions. Many people still are afraid of what they don't understand. The social justice issue I have chosen for my paper would be LGBT Liberation. I have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These terms are explained in more detail here. Lesbian A lesbian woman is one who is romantically, sexually and/or emotionally attracted to women. Many lesbians prefer to be called lesbian rather than gay. Gay A gay man is one who is romantically, sexually and/or emotionally attracted to men. The word gay can be used to refer generally to lesbian, gay and bisexual people but many women prefer to be called lesbian. Sexual orientation also refers to a person's sense of identity based on those attractions, related behaviours, and membership in a community of others who share those attractions. Three sexual orientations are commonly recognised – heterosexual, homosexual (gay and lesbian) and bisexual. Homophobia Homophobia refers to fear of or prejudice and discrimination against lesbian, gay and bisexual people. It is also the dislike of same–sex attraction and love or the hatred of people who have those feelings. The term was first used in the 1970s and is more associated with ignorance, prejudice and stereotyping than with the physiological reactions usually attributed to a 'phobia'. While homophobic comments or attitudes are often unintentional, they can cause hurt and offence to lesbian, gay and bisexual people. Transphobia Transphobia refers to fear of or prejudice and discrimination against people who are transgender or who are perceived to transgress norms of gender, gender identity or gender expression. While transphobic comments or attitudes are often unintentional, they can cause hurt and offence to transgender people. • 25. Erikson 's Crisis Theory And Marcia 's Four Stages Of... Abstract In this essay, Erikson Identity Crisis theory and Marcia's four stages of Identity Statuses demonstrates how adolescences analyze and make decisions about one's identity. Many adolescences struggle with decisions about where they fit in. Also, in this essay I will explain how you know you are LGBTQIA and I will discuss why so many adolescence of LGBTQIA have a hard time fitting in with society. The intent of this essay is to discuss the problems of LGBTQIA adolescences and why the impact of LGBTQIA is mainly in adolescent ages and the discrimination based on sexual orientation & gender identity. Adolescence is a dynamically evolving theoretical construct informed through physiologic, psychosocial, temporal, and cultural lenses. The most readily recognized hallmark of adolescence is the pubertal metamorphosis or chest rating the visible transformation of a "child" into an "adult. Development occurs both within the individual and through interactions with the environment. At the stage of adolescences, it's hard for teenagers to figure out their sexual identity because girls menstruate cycle begins, the level of adult hormones increases, the pubic hairs begin to grow, development of sex interest increase, and one begins to wonder who they really are. The process of accepting one's sexual orientation is particularly difficult for adolescents who identify as LGBTQIA and face that is not necessarily accepting of anything outside traditional expectation of ... • 29. Effects Of Discrimination And Minority Stress Discrimination and Minority Stress As stated earlier previous studies have reported decreased resilience among LGBA+ populations, however, it is important to note that identifying, as LGBA+ does not inherently cause the distress that is the source of poorer levels of mental health and resilience. Instead, it is a reaction the previously stated statistics representing shocking levels of exposure to discrimination, which also take the form of microaggressions. Micro–aggressions are aimed at minority groups and are a form of assault that can exist in a variety of forms either verbal or nonverbal, as well as be intentional or unintentional on behalf of the perpetrator. Microaggressions have previously been linked to increased mental health difficulties in the form of increased anxiety in African American University Students (Smith, Allen, & Danley, 2007). As individuals worldwide of multiple ethnicities, ages, religiosity, and able–bodiedness may identify as LGBA+, taking into account, this intersectionality and how it impacts on resilience is necessary to our understanding of LGBA+ populations. An individual who identifies both as a sexual minority and as an ethnic minority may have the effects of such discrimination and micro–aggressions compounded resulting in overall poorer resilience as the stressors experienced an increase (Balsam, Molina, Beadnell, Simoni, & Walters, 2011). The Intersectionality between ethnicity and sexual identity also has a clear impact on social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Also, we understand that there does not always have to be violence for this to occur. Homophobic harassment could also occur. According to Lynda Dowling, Katherine Eastaughffe, Una Harkin, and Shelley Argent (n.d.), "Harassment is repeated unwanted conduct which either violates a person's dignity, or creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for that person. These things include name calling, teasing, and homophobic jokes" (p. 1). Although it is pretty challenging to actually stop harassment, we will try our best to minimize the amount of harassment that occurs. We will have posters posted all over the city bringing awareness to sexuality. The International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia organization could definitely help with this, because as stated before they believe the same thing we do. There will also be hotline numbers posted around the cities and in the facilities that the athletes will be participating in. These hotlines are here for individuals that experience violence, or harassment as a result of homophobia and transphobia. The LGBT community organizes a lot of support and movement for civil rights all around the world, for example, parades. The paper in mind for this integrative project will be discussing about how North Americans became more approachable to be acceptant towards the LGBT community mainly concentrating in Canada and the United States. The concepts reinforced in this discipline will be the key events that altered the way individuals saw the LGBT community, and key characters who changed the way people perceived the LGBT community. However, only 19% from the LGBT community says there is a lot of social acceptance in our current world. Whereas a lot of the people from this group says they still have been rejected by their family and been called by slurs or jokes. However, the media has been working a lot more into spreading the message of the acceptance and equality amongst this discriminated community. The Duluth Model is an interventional and educational course for male batterers to shift the focus from the female victim (Edleson, 2010). The goal of the Duluth Model is to reeducate men on having a healthy nonviolent relationship. Katherine Van Wormer and Susan G. Bednar (2002) mentioned how the Duluth Model is grounded on the idea that men batter to have control, power, and display dominance. In addition, Van Wormer and Bednar (2002) discussed a key part of the course called the Power and Control Wheel. The Power and Control Wheel The Power and Control Wheel is a diagram that was created based on life experiences of 200 battered women (Van Wormer & Bednar, 2002). Ellen Pence surrounded the Power and Control Wheel with different approaches men use to sustain power and control in the relationship besides physical violence. Ellen believed that men not only desired power and control, but also felt they had the privilege of deserving power and control due to their gender (Batered Women's Justice Project, 2016). According to Ellen's research through the 200 battered women, the methodologies that men use are: coercion and threats, intimidation, emotional abuse, isolation, minimizing, denying and blaming, using children, using male privilege, in addition to economic abuse (Van Wormer & Bednar, 2002). ... • 53. Sexual Orientation Is The Dominant, Or Normal, Sexual, And... Introduction Sexual orientationism is best described as discrimination or prejudice against homosexuals on the assumption that heterosexuality is the dominant, or normal, sexual orientation. Within society there are many barriers, assumptions, and stigmas placed upon the queer community, numerous of which steam from this heterosexist stance that has become the dominant ideology. This stance has historical significance in trauma, and oppression of those within the sexual minority, and how this can play on representation. Social Location Because sexual orientationism, or homophobia, is something that is unconsciously encouraged since our youth by the media and its lack of representation of the queer community, there is often a lot of work that has to be done internally in order to understand and accept homosexuality, regardless of whether you identify with or simply wish to be an ally. My understanding of my privilege or oppression with sexual orientation comes from many years of internally restructuring my own understanding of societal norms. I had a much easier time of accepting the community from my mother who was always there to encourage my acceptance, and growth not only of, but within the community. As an individual who identifies as a pansexual male, my deconstruction of what was proposed as the norm, and reconciling that with my own understanding of what I felt inside to be true was fairly straight forward, but no less substantial. However, I do recognize my own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. Bisexuality As A Social Construct Essay Sexuality and Gender are social constructs. They are more like fluid concepts. Both are on spectrums. Why could they be considered controversial topics, more specifically the spectrum? Well, the idea of sexuality being more than just heterosexuality has been challenged by conservative types and others alike for years. They may even deem anything other than heterosexuality as something abnormal and immoral. For some, it can be quite difficult to understand that sexuality is on a spectrum. Especially with identities like bisexuality and pansexuality, it can be difficult for some people to wrap their minds around that idea. In recent years, the idea of gender being more than just male and female has been getting more and more attention. It is no longer sex that defines people, but gender identity, expression, and presentation. They are not fully understood and sometimes not accepted by people; unfortunately some of that ignorance, and much to my surprise, come from people within the LGBTQ+ community. A lack of understanding about the spectrums of sexuality and gender leads to a lot of confusion, hate, and ignorance. The acronym LGBT has expanded over time to include other identities, becoming LGBTQ+. Whereas heterosexuality means that a person is attracted to the opposite sex, homosexuality mean that one is attracted to the same sex. Bisexuality means that one is attracted to both men and women; however the attraction is not always fifty–fifty; in fact, one can like one gender ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. Sexual Orientation And Gender Orientation Essay e Henry Paper 4 Sexual orientation The theme that we have been focusing on in class for the past two weeks is sexual orientation. Sexual orientation is more complex than just the gender a person is attracted to. Instead sexual orientation is on more of a spectrum. On one end of the spectrum a person can be solely heterosexual and on the opposite side a person can be completely homosexual. This also means that a person can be bisexual if they identify more in the middle of the spectrum. The spectrum allows for all individuals of all different sexualities to have a place on the spectrum. In the films Chasing Amy and XXY we see two individuals who are more fluid with their sexuality and do not identify with being solely homosexual or solely heterosexual. The movie Chasing Amy is about a woman named Alyssa. Alyssa faces many judgments from her friends when she tells them that she is now seeing a man. Alyssa's friends who were all lesbians judged her for now dating a man. This is because they thought that Alyssa was a lesbian. Her friends were judging her because she was maybe becoming a bi sexual and not a lesbian like she thought she had been, "Biphobia, like homophobia, is prejudice based on negative stereotypes. It is often born of ignorance" (Diehl, Ochs p.385). Throughout the movie Alyssa had to explain her sexual past because of her sexual orientation. She was judged and belittled due to being a bi sexual, and when her past relationships were brought up they were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Today the "LGBTQ community" only continues to grow and make progress. However, not all the people in this community are making the same progress as others. Sexuality As A Social Construct Hannah St. Lifer Sexuality as a Social Construct Heternormativity is the idea that there exist two distinctive classifications of the genders, males and females, with customary roles in society. The idea asserts that heterosexuality is the only normal sexual orientation of people and that all sexual and marital relations must abide by this norm. Society has adopted this belief and constructed it into a standard of life. It is normal for people to automatically presume that most other people are heterosexual and that heterosexuality is the default sexual preference. Thus, all other sexualities that are nonheterosexual are a deviation of the default. Heterosexuality is the most appreciative and is the most acceptable sexuality for a man and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Monogamous, reproductive heterosexuality is also valued socially above all other forms of sexuality. Society has constructed the belief that heterosexuality is the ideal sexual identity, and society subsequently critiques non–heterosexual identities, such as gays, bisexuals, and trans, which all fall outside this custom. As a consequence of society deeming heterosexuality as the ideal sexuality, sexualities that are biologically infertile are less socially acceptable in society. Nonheterosexuals are seen as deviants and consequently mocked and ridiculed by society. Gayle proposes that same sex relationships are inferiors, but, "stable, long–term lesbian and gay couples are verging on respectability, but bar dykes and promiscuous gay men are hovering just above the groups at the very bottom of the pyramid." For instance, society already considers gay males to be lower on the hierarchy, but those males, which are less masculine, are even lower on the pyramid. Society has constructed these "less masculine" gays to be "more gay". However, homosexual males that still obtain monogamous relationships are more appreciated in respect to gays who are not in relationships. For example, famous gay couples such as Ellen DeGeneres's relationship, and the gay marriage portrayed on Modern Family, are valued in society. These are higher up on the pyramid because both gay couples are in stable relationships that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A long, long time ago in a country not so far away, the king and queen of Spain decided they wanted to find a better way to get to China in order to have many more splendid robes. Back in the olden days, the Silk Road in China was popular. Anybody who was anybody wanted to find a way to get there by sea. What better way to exert superiority than to send an explorer in search of the first water route to Asia? So, the king and queen gave this important job to a young explorer by the name of Christopher Columbus. The poor man was so terrible at directions, he landed on a completely new continent that was certainly not Asia. Columbus decided to name this new land "America." Soon after telling of his discovery, several European nations began settling in the New World. While growing up in Pakistan, I had been quite unaware of the main–stream and sub–cultures in the U.S, especially the idea about viewing a person from another race as "different" or inferior to oneself. Those who identify as bisexual are attracted to male, female, and sometimes the non–binary genders. Non–binary genders can include those who are transgender, agender, and genderfluid. Bisexuality is a separate sexuality from pansexuality. Pansexuality which is the romantic and/or sexual attraction to all genders. Like the sexuality and gender spectrums bisexuality is also a spectrum. One can be bisexual but only desire those of the male and female gender. Another could only find those who are non–binary and the female gender attractive, ect. Within the mainstream and LGBTQ+ communities the issue of bisexual erasure is quite prevalent. Bisexual erasure is the act of ignoring or removing the existence of bisexuality from primary sources. Bisexual erasure is a form of biphobia, the aversion to bisexuality and bisexual people. It can also include the denial of the existence of bisexuality. Female bisexuality has been the most ignored and unbelieved form of bisexuality. Today's denial of female bisexuality is a product of traditional disenfranchisement of female sexuality. By comparing John Wilmont, Earl of Rochester's poem "Song" to Aphra Behn's poem "To the Fair Clarinda" the existence and erasure of female bisexuality becomes clear. Rochester, a known bisexual, wrote "Song" in 1680. The work focuses on the narrator's, Rochester's, view on choosing women as romantic partners. The poem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The definition of Diversity according to the Collins Dictionary is "1. The state or quality of being different or varied. 2.A point of difference. 3.(logic) the relation that hold between two entities when and only when they are not identical; the property of being numerically distinct. (Collins 2014). In this essay I will be investigating how counsellors overcome difference and diversity and also look into arguments which state that you cannot overcome these differences in a therapeutic relationship; you just need to learn to accept you have differences and move on with the relationship. As Kipling (1889) wrote in 'The Ballard of East and West ' "Oh, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet", which suggests that maybe East and West cultures will never truly overcome their differences and may never be able to understand each other and each other's cultures to the full extent. Whereas Carl Rodgers believes as long as you use the Core Conditions you are able to help someone become their true organismic self including people from different ethnic backgrounds, different cultures, sexuality and people with disabilities who have the capacity to work with the counsellor. People is started to accept and released that the United States is a country with a large range of diversity. Starting from tall, shorts, Hispanics, white, black, Asians; but also, the society started to integrate people with different types of sexuality. New laws for equal marriage arrived, surprising some in good ways. Even though they accepted that people from the same–sex can get marriage, there still is a lot of hatred toward them. Not only to homosexuals. Unfortunately, they haven 't being completely acceptive with bisexuals. They don 't have it easier than homosexuals. They don 't have it simple, and they have struggle with things like: society, LGBT, and dating. Society catalyze them as people who you can 't trust, because they are confused or they just want to have sex. Now where the society is finally accepting homosexuality, you would think they will accept bisexuality but no. The thing is that the society thinks you are either: gay, straight, or lying; you like boys as well as girls; that you are either heterosexual or homosexual. Thanks to this, Bisexuals have always been labeled and judged to actually be gay or lesbian because people claim that a bisexual, is just covering that he or she is homosexual. Also, many people think they are just people who can 't decide which side or which way to go. People who can't define their sexuality. This is not true. Have you ever seen a ... I will identify key challenges that I may face when introducing and implementing equality and diversity measures if the Olympic Games were to happen again today. I will approach such a task by first outlining the history and definitions associated with LGBT. As the UK government and Stonewall (2015b) estimates that there are 3.6 million LGB people in Britain, which is thought to be an underestimate and does not include transgender people, it is not difficult to imagine the hundreds of millions of people living in fear of prejudice, oppression and death worldwide. A brief history of LGBT movements and attitudes, and current social and political movements in both countries: In 1987, the British Social Attitudes Survey found that 75% of the population held homosexual activity to be "always or mostly wrong", with just 11% believing it to be never wrong (1987: 4). As of 2012, those figures showed that attitudes had altered to 28% and 47% respectively (2012: 5). As of 2015 Stonewall expanded its current campaigns and programmes to "include and involve" trans people and also "developed new work on issues that specifically affect them" (Stonewall, 2015c). LGBT citizens have most of the same legal rights as non–LGBT citizens and the UK provides "one of the highest degrees of liberty in the world for its LGBT communities". The biggest change in storyline is when they introduced their first LGBTQ–identifying main character, Callie Torres. For many queer fans of the show, the addition of Callie's character was extremely monumental. Biphobia is real within the community even today. As seen in multiple recent studies towards bisexual discrimination, it seems that although heterosexuals are more likely to express their biphobia, "[the] discrimination from the lesbian and gay community, was statistically significantly higher," than it was expected to be (Allen). However, that is not to say that all people have these feelings. Support for the LGBTQ community within the entertainment industry has been progressing slowly over time . Since the "B" in LGBTQ was added in the 1990s, bisexuals have faced many issues because they fit in, "both the 'straight world' and the 'gay world'" (Exquis). • 121. The Oppression Of Opposite Sex Sexuality And Relationships Journal Heterosexism is the oppression of opposite–sex sexuality and relationships. In our society heterosexuals is the normal and those who do not fit into this category are shunned. Throughout history, "homosexuality and bisexuality have been called many things; from sin, sickness, and crime, to orientation, identity and even a gift from God." (372). Labels and judgments are justifications for society to marginalize people due to their sexuality. Our society tends to look for ways to justify homosexuality by looking for "deficiencies" through "medical or psychological terms" (373). Language is another powerful tool that society uses to gain authority in order to define the normative. Language can dehumanize homosexuality by using words such as "queer, faggot, and dyke" in order to gain empowerment over their sexuality. The efforts to make homosexuality inferior in our society, causes heterosexuals to view homosexuality in negative terms. From a young age, society teaches us to be heterosexuals and those who go against the norms are viewed as "trespassing" (399). In the essay "How Homophobia Hurts Everyone" a quote by Douglas shares how society manipulates our perceptions. In the quote Douglas recalls his slave masters wife as a kind lady whom allowed "slavery to divest her of her heavenly qualities. Under its influence, the tender heart became stone, and the lamblike disposition gave way to one of tiger like fierceness" (381). It is important to realize that as a society ... Some of the vocabulary that it used to describe this orientation can be misleading. Bisexual has the prefix of bi, meaning two, but the orientation itself is more broad than the sexual attraction to just two genders. What is also commonly unknown is that bisexuality is also a romantic orientation. There is little information out there concerning bisexual people and such a lack of resources may have them looking for answers that are not, but should be out there. Alternatively, most of the information that is out there and available is wrong and delegitimizes bisexuality. America is a monosexual society in its history, legislation, and media. Bisexuality has constantly been misrepresented because of America 's monosexual standard towards individuals. Bisexuality is often is disregarded by America 's monosexual society. There is an underlying layer of bierasure that has been happening for decades, and no one, but those affected, notices because that is the point. Bierasure is the removal of bisexual representation throughout all platforms. When information and awareness is removed, misrepresentation beings to arise. For bisexuality, the myths made up about it are endless and only add to the generally biphobic nation that is America. Biphobia is the hate or discrimination against bisexuals or bisexuality in general. Much like homophobia, hate and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 133. What Is Bi-Erasure? What Is Bi–erasure? Oh Wait, You Wouldn't Know! In a world where we can build kidneys from stem cells or connect to the internet via your watch: why is bisexuality forgotten about? The phrase bi–erasure is one that you may not know but believe me it is one you definitely should know. Bi–erasure is defined as the tendency to ignore, remove, falsify, or re–explain evidence of bisexuality in history, academia, news, media and other primary sources. The world seems to be celebrating the death of homophobia because America made same sex marriage legal in all 50 states, but this is not the case. Homophobia is still very present in society but more than homophobia its biphobia. Biphobia is intense hatred, fear or aversion towards bisexuals or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bi–erasure is so harmful because it attacks all that bisexual people believe in like the media, law and gay pride. Another thing bisexuals have to deal with is that bisexuals are the least supported and least served minority group within the entire LGBT community with just .01 % of all LGBT funding directed toward bisexual projects or programs since 1970. More than bisexuals not being supported research suggests that bisexuals suffer worse mental health than heterosexuals, lesbians, and gay men. Bisexuals have higher rates of suicide, self harm, mood disorders and depression than any other sexuality and one common reason for this is how tough it is to be an "out" bisexual in todays society. This is one of the biggest factors as to why bi–erasure is so harmful to people. Our culture is so unaccepting of difference and this could be why people take part in bi–erasure however that does not excuse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 137. Gay Marriage Should Be Legal "We're here, we're queer, get over it." In 1990, these words, shouted and displayed proudly on signs waved by the activist group, Queer Nation, were revolutionary. Never, not since the Stonewall Riots, had non–straight, non–cis people been so vocal about their existence and demanded acceptance – something that straight people take for granted on a daily basis. However, in the years since the Riots, LGBT activism has become much more mainstream, no longer whispered about behind closet doors or something to be wholly ashamed of. Gay marriage is legal in all 50 United States, something that has been fought for since the conception of the LGBT movement. In fact, gay couples are routinely being featured on popular television and other forms of media. Some might say that in 2016, the dreams of the rioters in Stonewall have been realized. Marriage rights and the spotlight on nighttime television; equality seems to truly be right on the horizon. If one is a white, cis, gay man, that is. Gay women are features much less frequently, and gay or lesbian people of color even less so. With the exception of Laverne Cox on Orange Is the New Black, Netflix's runaway prison hit, transgender people of color are rarely allowed to grace the television of the average American. Though some may sing the praises of LGBT activism and claim that gay people are now so mainstream that there is no need for further discussion to be made about queer issues, others disagree. Others that were not blessed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 141. Clare Gay Rights In recent years, there has been a surge of queer representation in popular media. Whether or not this representation accurate and positive is another question, but the fact that queer visibility has increased is inarguable. According to this Salon article, "supporting gay rights is good for business" (Kelley). In the article, Kelley discusses the move by companies to publicly show their support for LGBT rights, and how this motion is not "brave," as much as it is financially beneficial. As we progress further along in the movement for queer rights, more and more companies hop on the bandwagon, because being progressive is profitable. For many of these companies, to say anything unsupportive about the LGBT community will cause an outcry from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Should straight authors stop writing queer characters and relationships for fear of misrepresenting them? While that may be effective in stopping the misrepresentation, that line of thinking will not solve the problem. Queer authors will still lack a voice in the writing community, and the issue will be taken back to square one. One solution would be to further educate straight writers on how to write queer characters, and the dangers of mishandling them. Most non–queer authors have wonderful intentions of being inclusive, but their works fall short because of the unfamiliarity with the subject matter. A better solution would be to provide an efficient platform for queer voices to write about their own experiences and communities. Queer authors should be promoted better so their work is seen rather than cast off to the side for what straight audiences find appealing in terms of seeing onscreen gay characters. And this includes queer women and trans people who are so often overlooked, even within the queer literature community. Gay male characters have a grip on the queer scene, largely influenced by straight female audiences who have no idea of the harm they cause to actual gay ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 145. Sexual Prejudice In The United States Most of the information that I have researched about Sexual Prejudice in the United States has many similarities in the accusations and views expressed. National Surveys in the US reveal a lot of focus towards homosexuality, heterosexual attitudes and AID's in relation to homosexuality in the extent of Sexual Prejudice. Homosexuality plays a big part in Sexual Prejudice in the United States today. According to Herek 2002, "Survey participants generally were more likely to regard gay men as mentally ill, supported adoption rights for lesbians more than for gay men, and had more negative personal reactions to gay men than to lesbians". People in the present US society, mostly label gay men as completely wrong and are more favorable for lesbian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (2008, January 22). • 149. Stigma Of Bisexuality The graph above shows some statistics from 2005 to roughly 2010 of people who identify as Bisexual or Gay/Lesbian. The highest collective percentage being 5.6% after a national sexual health survey was taken in 2009. Something worth noting is that more people identified with being bisexual as opposed to being gay/lesbian. This is worth noting because of the stigma that goes along with bisexuality. Is it okay to be bisexual? In the queer sphere bisexuality is almost seen as a taboo. It's seen as people being "greedy" or wanting to "sleep with everyone". Biphobia is the dislike or hatred towards those who are bisexual. These people not only experience biphobia but homophobia as well be perform sexual acts with partners of the same sex and ... • 153. Queer Culture Has Long Been K.d. Lang, Ellen Degeneres,... The faces of Queer Culture has long been K.D. Lang, Ellen Degeneres, and Elton John. While these icons represent the queer community in that they are gay individuals, they are not wholly representative of the community because there is no one "queer story." However, these icons all have cisgender, white privilege which results in a great dearth of representation for transgender, non–binary, and people of color in the media. Another issue with queer representation in the media is the differentiation between gender expression and sexual orientation. Gender expression associated with masculinity such as short hair, loose clothing, and rough materials such as denim when worn by a woman is seen as a demarcation of "alternative" sexualities. However, those assumptions neglect to recognize the diversity of gender expression. Gender expression among heterosexuals varies greatly with some men presenting as "metrosexual" and some women presenting as "tomboys." Similarly, this type of variation exists within the LGBTQ+ community as members can range from "femme" to "butch" to androgynous. Portia de Rossi would be a classic example of a "femme" lesbian in terms of her long hair and frequent wearing of dresses. Often times these feminine lesbians, if they are portrayed at all, are often used to attract male audiences. However, Orange is the New Black challenges these conventions through the genres of Sophia Burset, Piper Chapman, and Big Boo. Sophia Burset breaks the cisgender, white ...
