How do we communicate with trillions of machines? We don’t. It is up to them to find ways to aggregate the information they collect and present it in ways that humans can use. It is the duty of the localization industry to lead the development of guidelines for these interfaces that implement best practices for clarity, cross-cultural understanding, accessibility and usefulness worldwide. In this session we will present examples of how this can be achieved while preserving and enhancing the value of the localization industry and its participants. Fagsystemer kan også dra nytte av denne utviklingen, under helt andre forutsetninger. Du kan få forståelse for alt dette gjennom å prøve deg på litt hobbyelektronikk og noen enkle standarder og verktøy som MQTT og Node.red, som er ypperlig for å drive prototyping av Internet of Things systemer i bedrifter. Du vil dermed kunne få idéer til hvordan du kan involvere fysiske sensorer og indikatorer for å øke utstrekningen og verdiene av de fagsystemene du jobber med. Først vil jeg gjennom en liten science-fiction fortelling vise hvordan IoT virkelig kan tjene oss i fremtiden. As the air gap between our daily lives and the Internet continues to shrink the security of our personal data and devices grows in importance. We are facing the daily threat of putting 2000s era computers bolted to toasters online while expecting them to defend against 2017 capable attackers. This talk will explore the continuing trend of IoT, discuss how we’ve been here before, and layout strategies for keeping pace with attackers in the future. This talk will focus on enumerating this risk, discuss the challenges involved, and explore solutions. First, we will examine this history of how we got here, and what it means to say “security is a snapshot in time.” We then introduce the idea of shared ken – the range of one’s knowledge or sight – and how it impacts security. Third, we discuss the influence of data as code, the meta game, and secrecy as a way of mastering impact and ken. This talk will allow attendees to walk away with A holistic view of the history of computer security and how it impacts them today The importance of extending the range of collective vision to reduce blind spots Practical advice for BSiders to grow their mindset and improve their impact Adam is a founding partner and Chief Executive Officer at Deja vu Security. This our Twelfth semiannual report on the global Cryptocurrency mining industry. Bitcoin is the world’s largest special purpose supercomputer. And it is globally decentralized. Millions of nodes all run the same open-source code to secure the Bitcoin network, create value, and put new transactions onto the distributed ledger. The latest Top500 list has just been announced at the ISC 2024 conference in Hamburg, and once again the Frontier supercomputer with 1.2 Exaflops peak performance is number one on the list. If assigned to SHA-256 hashing, Frontier would provide only the equivalent hash rate of about three cabinets of the latest high-end Bitcoin mining systems, costing less than 0.1% of Frontier’s cost. Michael Saylor, Chairman of MicroStrategy, has pointed out that GPUs are two orders of magnitude slower than the 5-nanometer technology of custom ASICs used for Bitcoin mining today. He makes the point that the Bitcoin network is unassailable by all of the hyperscale computing resources combined in AWS, Google, and Microsoft Azure cloud data centers today.

Syngulon’s technology expands the capacity for selection of microorganisms. The ability to select individual microbes with a behavior of interest is essential, whether for simple cloning at the bench, or for industry-scale production. Synthetic biology uses the concept of “bioengineering” to improve or modify existing genetic systems to create microbes with desired behaviors, and Syngulon uses this approach to develop its selection technologies. This selection technology is based on bacteriocins, ribosomally-produced peptides naturally made by most bacteria to kill competitive microbial species. These bacteriocins can have a limited or wide target range against other microbial species. This technology offers advantageous over antibiotic selection for several reasons: it avoids the use of antibiotics in the first place, helping to reduce the spread of antibiotic resistant microbes. The technology also increases product yield; as bacteriocins are generally smaller peptides, they do not impose a heavy metabolic burden on the producing cell. They can have a wide target specificity, helping to avoid genetic drift. Finally, our system is 100% plasmid-based (e.g. without chromosomal mutations), making it applicable for use in any E. coli strains.
