This document outlines the procedures and expectations for Mr. Vaughn's mathematics classroom. It introduces the classroom, then details procedures such as arriving on time, completing bell ringers, note-taking, homework, and consequences. Classroom rules emphasize respect, preparation, and participation. The grading scale and emergency procedures are also provided. The overall purpose is to welcome students and ensure they understand how to be successful in learning mathematics.
2. WELCOME TO OUR CLASSROOM. IT IS HERE
WE WILL WORK, LEARN AND GROW,
EXPLORING THE WORLD OF MATHEMATICS.
3. EACH DAY YOU WILL:
• Come to class on time.
• Sit in your assigned seat (Attendance is taken this way, failure
to sit in your assigned seat will result in you being marked
absent)
• Prepare your materials for class.
• Begin your Bell Ringer (The time before the tardy bell rings is
not a time for conversation. It is for you to begin your Bell
Ringer)
4. BELL RINGERS
• Bell Ringers will be short prompts or example problems that
will “jump start” class.
• Bell Ringers will either review previous lessons or introduce
new material built upon lessons learned.
• Bell Ringers will be kept in your class binder and checked every
10 Bell Ringers for a Daily Grade or randomly for a Pop Quiz
Grade. So maintain your Bell Ringers.
5. BELL RINGERS
• Bell Ringers will be key example problems to use when you
study for exams.
• Be sure to write down all correct solutions and steps when Bell
Ringers are reviewed by the class.
7. BELL RINGER #1:
• If Mr. Einstein is correct and mathematics is poetry, let’s write a
poem for our first Bell Ringer.
• On you desk, there is a copy of my “I Am” poem. And on the
back is the blank format for you to write your “I Am” poem.
• Once you are done, I will read my poem and maybe several of
you would like to share yours. You have 7 minutes…Go!
8. • This is your 1st Bell Ringer. When I check notebooks, this is the
first one that I should see!
9. CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
• Be on time.
• Enter classroom orderly.
• Sit in your assigned seat.
• Prepare your materials (sharpen pencils, prepare binders, check
and clear your graphing calculator).
• Complete Bell Ringer.
10. CLASSROOM PROCEDURES CONTINUED
• Volunteer to place Bell Ringer on board. (points given for
participation)
• Participation is done in 2 ways: Volunteer and Drafted. At some
point in the year everyone will have the chance to work a
problem on the board (I’ll always assist you, we are in this
together)
• Guided Notes will be given for the day’s lesson.
• We work from bell to bell. I will dismiss class, not the bell.
• Class will end with a quiz or Exit Slip (a problem covering the
day’s lesson)
