experiment, after you are comfortable start
begin teaching outside of your comfort
zone.
• Get ideas from your co-op and see if they
will offer advice on new approaches.
• Make a positive connection with parents or
guardians.

We’ve all attended the countless meetings about the
interview process, what they don’t tell you:
1. Bring a black portfolio to keep your resume in, a
pamphlet about yourself, a list of references, a pen
and your car key.
2. It is okay to bring an umbrella if it is raining to an
interview, but never bring it into the interview
room.
3. There might be several rounds of the interview,
make sure you are available for all of the rounds.

• Rehearse what you are going to say before hard.
• The first question will most likely be tell us about
yourself. Take about 10 minutes to describe your
academic career and educational background.
• Mention your involvement/leadership with different on
campus organizations and what different topics you
spoke about.
• Discuss the different opportunities that you have had
with the organization that helped with your
professional development and why you want to
continue with it.

you? Or do you have anything else to share?
• Be personable, make sure to show them
personality and how you are unique.
• Have examples for each of their questions.

Classroom.

you.
• Several first year teachers were switched to a
different grade a few weeks before the school year
started, you just gotta roll with the punches.

• Matching suit (buy together so the fabrics match)
• Pull your hair back
• For girls: suit skirts are more appealing.
• For Guys: tie, suit jacket
• Heels or dress shoes.
• Avoid bangle or noisy jewelry
• Make sure your nail polish isn’t chipped it draws too
much attention to your nails and makes it look
unprofessional.

• Start collecting books for your future classroom!
• This sounds crazy and way to far in advance,
but if you save books for several years or go to
book or yard sales you can get lots of books
for cheap.
• Scholastic Warehouse Sales can be found on
their website and have the books at a much
cheaper price.
• A lot of books can be found on YouTube by
searching the book title and the read aloud
option.

14. What to expect when you’re

• Start collecting board games/cards for indoor recess!
Play doh is a big hit for younger grades. 
• Stickers.
• Collect borders/templates, end of the year sales at
staples are key!
• Pencils and crayons are ridiculously expensive and
aren’t always given by the school district, if you are
planning on community table supplies make sure you
buy some on clearance at staples at the before school
sale.
