Media and Visual Culture Interpreted the Notion of Black...
Black masculinity has been a very intricate and compelling notion. Through media and visual culture, an operational interpretation of black masculinity
was coined. From the emergence of the original gangster (OG), to the successful, intellectual middle class black male–Cliff Huxtable as evidenced by a
fictional character in the Cosby show. As more black celebrities advance in their career, more specifically comedians, they further define and challenge
the image of black masculinity. When it comes to masculinity, there is a standard ideation of what the ideal male should be – a wealthy, heterosexual
male. However, complicating this stigma with race makes this issue more pressing. What is black masculinity and how is its image evolving through
the use of comedy? Before answering that question, we must first look at how masculinity and black masculinity is portrayed in comedy.
Robert Hanke, a professor of sociology at the University of Ryerson, in his article "The mock–macho" situation comedy: hegemonic masculinity and its
reiteration", addresses the topic of masculinity in comedy by examining how comedy works to reiterate hemogenic masculinity by looking at what he
terms two "mock–macho sitcoms" –Home Improvement and Coach. Hanke argues the role of comedy as a strategy to reconstruct manhood from that
of just physical actions but emotional as well. He supports this claim by examining at the central male character –Tim Allen, as a recombinant image of
manhood, combing middle

Showboat
This paper is a critique of a production of Show Boat, a musical classic with compositions by Jerome Kern and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, which
was performed and produced by NETworks Presentations LLC at Emens Auditorium on the 14th of February 2001. Clayton Phillips, the director of the
production, attempted to test the waters of racial discrimination by exploring controversial themes such as prejudice and interracial relationships. Show
Boat takes an enlightened approach to ethnic controversy by using both music and drama to express the feelings and hopes of the characters to the
audience. Even though I enjoyed the production, I felt that it was lacking in terms of its plot and may have overused its melodic reprises. However,

The scenes and props complimented the attire of the performers, blending together create a magnificent display. The scenery was realistic enough to
afford the viewer an escape into depths of the show. The setting was beautiful and the structures almost lifelike, excepting the absence of a front screen
door. It seems that almost all plays and television shows I have viewed neglect this detail. The stage lighting played a key role in the show by setting
the mood of the performance during soulful, pensive songs. In contrast, the lighting proved to be a detriment by overbearing the performance of the
artists, in that one's attention was drawn to the glare of extreme quantities of makeup rather than the actions of the characters. This was most notable
during the final portions of the production.
The entertainers gave their characters genuine life through their gestures, attitude and charm. Even the way the voices led one to believe that the
characters were actually presenting their own thoughts and ideas, not those of fictional characters. During the play, the voices of the performers were
quite audible, excepting certain musical presentations when the lyrics of the songs were at points nearly indiscernible. Even with consideration given
to this technical glitch, the sound quality was quite agreeable and the songs enjoyable. The voices of the performers were strong

How Does Writing Change Over Time
Writing has changed a lot over the years. The hot topics fade and new ones replace them. From early America to 1870 there was not many changes in
the topics because there was not as many people as there are now. There was only three considerable changes to writing styles and topics. The writing
styles and topics over the years have changed from myths, to God, and finally to individualism. Writing started off as myths. There are four functions of
a myth. The myth must include all of creation, day to day function of the world, support customs/rituals, and how to deal with trials and tribulations.
An example of a myth is The World On The Turtle's Back. That myth was written by the Iroquois and was about how the world was created. Their
myths were generally communicated orally. The myth talked about a heaven where the gods lived. One became curious and fell into the underworld.

This was in play when the Puritans came over and settled in America. They tried to be godly and always do the correct thing. An example of this
type of writing is The Crucible. The Crucible is a play written about a true event. These godly people did not like witches. They thought that witches
were possessed by the devil so they killed them. They thought they were doing the right thing, but some people took advantage of it. Those girls were
ungodly, but everyone thought they were godly. The Puritans thought that children were innocent (they never lied). That is not the case and these
ungodly children took advantage and twisted these people's minds. Some people were godly and did the right thing but most people were not, even
though that is what they thought they were doing. Those people thought that they were ridding Salem of the devil and allowing God back in but what
they were really doing was pushing God out and opening the door for the devil. When the Puritans arrived in America, they changed the style and topic

Descriptive Essay About A Cat Show
I went to the cat show hosted by the Santa Monica Cat Club on October 7, 2017 at the Pomona Fairplex. I always wanted to go to a cat show so I
was curious about the one offered by the Santa Monica Cat Club. I did not know what to expect at all. I am used to seeing what dog shows look like
on TV. The overall environment was relaxing and everyone was relatively calm. At the entrance, I was given a colorful pamphlet with thecat breeds that
were participating in the show.
I was surprised when I entered the building. There were so many cat breeds but the overall location felt pretty small probably because they do not
need as much space as dogs. I went to every cat that was present in their cat carrier. Some of them were not there because they were being shown on
stage. I wondered if they ever felt stressed being around so many people for long hours. They probably get used to it after competing at different
shows. The breeders seemed pretty nice and they were willing to let me pet their cats and to tell me more about their breeds.
There were so many cats I could not keep track of their names, awards, and breeds. The breeds that really stood out to me were the Toygers,
Abyssinians, Sphynxs, Persians, and the American Shorthairs. At the time I did not know as many cat breeds, but I am happy that I learned some
before going because it made the experience that more meaningful. I was too distracted to look at the breed pamphlet since there were so many cats

Designing A Reality Game Show That Goes By The Title Of...
OVERVIEW OF THE BUSINESS
The objective of the business is to produce a reality game show that goes by the title of QUICKWITT. This game show would include participants
from Universities and Colleges. The show would be based on one minute mind games that would judge the participants level of aptitude.
The participants with the best score would be declared as the winners and would also be awarded with prices and gift vouches. Secondly, the best
participants chosen from each university would compete in the grand finale of the QUICKWITT. We anticipate positive response from the youth and
plan to cover around 50 colleges and universities from Lahore, Pakistan.
The participant completing the task in the minimum time period would be declared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
MARKET ANALYSIS
Prime objective of producing this show successfully is to stay fully aware of the marketing trends and the regular information about the industry and its
history. It is pivotal to understand and analyze the industrial impact in the particular industry as the show is related to entertainment industry. Around
20 different game shows were analyzed to determine the fate of ours, as the above–mentioned game shows were similar in sketch. Two of popular
programs were SPRITE FUNDA and LIVING ON THE EDGE, these shows have successfully targeted the youth but they somewhat failed to capitalize
the market in the growth terms. We believe that our execution would go as planned and we can successfully fill the vacuum in the industry.
TARGET MARKET:
QUICKWITT will be targeting the youth industry by focusing on colleges and universities in the initial time periods. The age would fall between 16
and 28 years old. In our initial stage we would be targeting the youth from Lahore, the data collected by our team suggests that we would have to
shuffle between 28,000 individuals. However, we would be setting up arrangements for 3 to 400 students as audience from the participating institution.
The target market of Lahore is flexible and elastic, as it comprises the majority of youth population of the country.

Allegory and Truman Show
Allegory and Truman Show
The Allegory of the Cave has many parallels with The Truman Show. Initially, Truman is trapped in his own "cave"; a film set or fictional island
known as Seahaven. Truman's journey or ascension into the real world and into knowledge is similar to that of Plato's cave dweller. In this paper, I will
discuss these similarities along with the very intent of both of these works whose purpose is for us to question our own reality.
In his Allegory Plato shows us how a man ascends from the darkness of a cave to the light of the outside world. In this ascent Plato's man passes
through four distinct stages of cognition: from imagination, to belief, understanding, and finally knowledge.
Imagination
In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, his reality is now based on these objects vs. what is truly real. In Truman's second phase he starts to believe that something is wrong with his
world based also on his perception and his common sense. First, his father Kirk who had been written out of the show years earlier sneaks back onto
the set. This sends Truman into a teenage flashback of his last moments with Lauren a girlfriend that had tried to tell him the truth before she was
written off to Fiji. He also notices that the radio is following him around and people all around him are acting very strange. At this point he does not
know what is wrong but he knows he is onto "something big" as he tells his "best friend" Marlon.
Understanding
Some might disagree at precisely which point Truman "sees the light" and begins to understand what is really happening. Like with Plato's cave
dweller the process of understanding is a slow one. "He will require to grow accustomed to the sight of the upper world. And first he will see the
shadows best, next the reflections of men and other objects in the water, and then the objects themselves..." In the same way Truman's accent into
understanding was a slow process. The scene where he notices that his wife is crossing her fingers in one of their wedding pictures is that crucial
moment. From that point on we get the feeling that he has gone from assuming there was something wrong to

Jon Stewart Discussion On The Ferguson, Missouri Coverage
Introduction The satire option that I chose for the purpose of this assignment is the Jon Stewart discussion on the Ferguson, Missouri coverage. Here,
Jon, the satirist is an arbiter of American political media, and as a media critic, he is also the former television host of The Daily Show which is a
satirical news program that airs on Comedy Central.
In the video, Jon Stewart critiqued topics revolving around the shooting of teenager Michael Brown by the police. The topics ranged from police
brutality, black lives matter, negative stereotypes, double standards, white privileged and an unacceptable mentality of sheer ignorance of some
Americans towards people of color, in other words, African American in a comedic but very real sense.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, the claims are believable as the show relies heavily on the use of various news footages, often in a documentary way that employs archival video
to show contrast and contradiction, even if the purpose is satirical rather than reportorial. The content on the show is unburdened by objectivity,
journalistic integrity or even accuracy, nevertheless, it speaks volumes with Jon Stewart's big unauthoritative persona as he attempts to breakdown on
selective representation.
Content Reliability The reliability of the content presented in The Daily show with regards to the Ferguson, Missouri coverage by Jon Stewart is
reliable enough or fairly reliable. I say that because as much as it is credible, it does have a real yet comedic satire spin to it. As mentioned earlier,
The Daily Show relies on various news footages and instead of solely relying on these bias sources, Jon Snow puts his own critical spit to it. He raises
controversial issues that mainstream media coincidently neglects. With regards to the Ferguson, Missouri controversy, he filled in the blanks and dared
to say the unsaid and emphasised the existence of white supremacist and white privilege and compare and contrasted white and black people experience
and interaction with the law enforcements agents.
Language Used Jon Stewart, when presenting the Ferguson case, like all his other shows, he uses

Art Exhibition
To be considered for the Dublin Arts Council one must submit a letter about the proposed body of work, a personal statement, a resume, several
samples of your work that coincide with your theme to be presented. Whatever samples I chose to send in for consideration would need to be printed
specifically for the Dublin Arts Council as materials that are sent are not returned to the artists. The Dublin Arts Council is considering artwork 12–18
months in advance so subject matter may be likely to be selected depending upon the time of year. When they need additional artists, they have a
webpage where that information is displayed. I would use many of the printing and framing methods listed in the previous section as they have many
size options available. I feel they would have options that would fit my needs for an art exhibition as well. This method would be more cost effective
than the Columbus Arts Festival because the volume of prints I would need to have beforehand would be smaller. I could not find any information
about cost for inclusion in the Dublin Arts Council on their website.

Flyers could have many uses depending on what other events I was attending such as art shows of things of that nature. I could have them available to
customers who purchased a print and have them offer a discount on a future purchase. I

Parallels Between The Truman Show and Plato's Allegory of the Cave
The movie, 'The Truman Show' is about a reality television show that has been created to document the life of a man who, adopted at birth by a
television network, is tricked into believing that his life, his reality, is normal and the environment that he lives is real. It is set in a town called
Seahaven, which is essentially a simulation of the real world similar enough to the outside world that the viewing audience can relate to it. The town is
a television studio inside an enormous dome in which the weather, the sun, the sky, and all the actions of the citizens are directed by a team ofspecial

However, because of some of the situations he encounters and sees, and with his curiosity and logic, Truman is able to work out something isn?t right
about the world and manages to escape. Because it is a gradual realization, Truman doesn?t go mad as his make believe world unravels around him. As
might be the case with Plato?s cave dwellers, as they are stepping into the light of the real world.
I think that a majority of people, as do I, would agree that there is something wrong with what was done to Truman. We would all tend to believe
that it would be a sad existence for any person to be so fooled by his environment and be so oblivious to the truth for his whole life. However,
Truman?s situation is a metaphor for the current media climate that we live in today. The world has become something of a dome in which reality
seems to be whatever we see and hear in the media. In an interview with the Christof character regarding the continued success of the show he said,
?We accept the reality of the world with which we?re presented. It?s as simple as that.?
The world has become an audience waiting for reality to be presented in an hour long television program, or a two hour movie. The fake landscape
Truman lives in is our own media landscape in which news, politics, and advertising are increasingly made up of theatrical illusions. The Truman
Show addressed our fear of how far reality television could go, but also our fears about

The Truman Show By Peter Weir Essay
The Truman Show (1998), directed by Peter Weir portrayed a grand metaphor for American culture in the 90's. The movie's message to us is that
we are stuck in a media landscape full of fantasies that is catered to the interests of more powerful people. If we want to live an authentic life and
be free, we should put distance between ourselves and the comfort that is our media filled culture. We have to leave the safety that is the media's
grasp and be willing to live in the world the way it actually is. In the 1990's, television culture in particular was in full swing. Television is such a
powerful tool as it has the potential to heavily influence our mindsets on topics. The Truman Show showed us an exaggerated reality of 90's culture
through a utopian/dystopian society in which morals are put aside for the purpose of a television show. Since its inception in the 1950s, television has
become an integral part of American society. Television has always been a means of entertainment, but it has developed into something further.
Television is a tool that can reflect and nurture values and morals. Throughout the years, television and our society have had a symbiotic relationship.
Our culture influenced television, while television influenced our society. When The Truman Show came out, it embodied our media culture from the
past, but it also predicted what was to come after the movie was released. When television networks first came on the scene, they consciously stayed

Companies need to be able to cross boundaries within and outside their country. Companies selling in global industries, however, have no choice but to

The Appeal of Television Chat Shows Essay
The Appeal of Television Chat Shows
Chat shows are a very popular and successful modern day television program. Why? It is probably because as humans we are naturally nosey and
curious about the lifestyles of others, especially those of the rich and famous. It is this common characteristic that makes the neighbors peep through
the curtains to see what the Jones' are up to next, the reason that village gossip spreads so quickly and the cause of the growing number of reality

Some are run in the more conventional way of just the basic interview for example Parkinson, but others are shown in a more entertaining approach,
for example The Kumars at No. 42 and this is due to their target audience. The target audience is who the programme is aimed at and huge factor
when considering the target audience is a scheduling time. For example Graham Norton is on weekdays at 10 o'clock and this is a great
scheduling time for his audience. It is a good time after the 9 o'clock watershed as Graham Norton attracts a young adult audience due to his adult
humour and the guests he has on his show whereas Parkinson is on Saturday evening at around 10.30. This programme is probably aimed more
towards older adults, as his style of interviewing is very traditional. Older adults are more likely to be in at this time and will want to watch
something before they go to bed whereas a younger audience will watch more television on weekdays, as they will have work the next day.
Parkinson is a very popular chat show and has been running for many years.
As Parkinson has been in show business for many years, he is now a celebrity himself and has made his fame through interviewing other famous
people. We can tell this from the shows

Essay on African American Representation in Show Boat
The evolution of musical theater in America can be viewed through many lenses. Through the lens of hindsight, it is easy to reflect on the treatment
and portrayal of African–Americans in the contextual fruition of live entertainment in the United States. Dating back to the later half to the nineteenth
and into the early twentieth century, ethnic representation in musical theater underwent a gradual change paralleling a shift in societal opinion toward
racial equality. Though by today's standards, its depiction of African–Americans may seem archaic at best, Show Boat changed the way audiences
viewed musical theater through its success as the first show to deal with racial issues in the United States. In order to fully understand the ... Show more

In her doctoral dissertation, Katherine Axtell examines Show Boat from its novel origins to its inception and creation as a work of musical theater. It is
clear from her analysis that even though Hammerstein and Kern may not have intended Show Boat to be about race, it was still at the forefront of their
minds. Axtell states, "sources...strongly suggest that, page for page and line for line, the composer and librettist expended the greatest energy on the
development of material for the romantic leads, Magnolia and Ravenal; that they took inspiration...from contemporary African–American musical
theater."6 Axtell also cites Todd Decker, "who in 2007 included Show Boat in a larger study of 'black
–white encounters' in selected American stage and
film musicals... Decker argues that Kern and Hammerstein concentrated, from the beginning of their collaboration, on the development of interracial
encounters and the creation of such numbers as 'Can't Help Lovin; Dat Man' and 'Ol' Man River.'"7
It was, in fact, "Ol' Man River" that many believed to be the highlight of the show. Sung by the African–American character, Joe, "Ol' Man River"
represents the overarching theme of Show Boat. The "river" in the song represents the Mississippi River, but the lyrics

Rhetorical Analysis of The Truman Show
What I aim to do with this rhetorical analysis is bring forth to the reader a deeply immersive look at the rhetorical concepts present in the film The
Truman Show. It is important for a viewer to fully understand the underlying messages and subtle undertones in between the lines, so to speak. The
Truman Show is one man's life being played out in a closed environment for the entertainment of the outside world. Most important to note, Truman
Burbank has no clue that his whole life has been little more than just a television program produced on a grand scale to produce the image of reality in
a dome. The Truman Show blends ethos, logos, and pathos together in a symphony of self–discovery and power over an adversary, whether physical or
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ethos belongs to Christof, it is his character, allowing him to be the god. Truman is the veritable Adam/Eve in Eden. When searching for
self–awareness and knowledge outside of the Garden, his behavior is condemned by his God. Without Christof's undying credibility, he would not
be allowed to play God. Within the same scope of thinking, Truman has a limited amount of choices he can make. This brings to light the true
definition of free will and as to whether there is a true definition to be heard. When given the choices only to walk left or walk right with the
absence of the ability to stay put, is choosing one of two inevitable ends really a choice empowered by free will? The logos presented in the film
rests with the true nature of Truman's free will, or lack thereof. In a scripted world of thespians and set pieces, all with a certain purpose in mind,
how can an individual exist with free will? Truman has decisions thrust upon him and they are driven into him by the guilt he possesses from the death
of his father. When Truman confronts his mother with a desire to shake up the status quo, to get out of his snow globe, he is tamed with the simple
reminder that he is responsible for his father's death. What's so elegant and beautiful about the sinister nature of it all is that it's hidden within the
context of a cleverly crafted conversation. A simple, "I never blamed

Talk Shows
TALK SHOWS The television talk show is, on the face of it, a rather strange institution. We pay people to talk for us. Like the soap opera, the talk show
is an invention of twentieth century broadcasting. It takes a very old form of communication, conversation, and transforms it into a low cost but highly
popular form of information and entertainment through the institutions, practices and technologies of television.
The talk show did not originate over night, at one time, or in one place. It developed out of forty years of television practice and antecedent talk
traditions from radio, Chatauqua, vaudeville and popular theater. In defining the talk show it is useful to distinguish between "television talk"

Successful talk show hosts like Mike Wallace, Johnny Carson, and Barbara Walters bridge generations of viewers. The longevity of these "super stars"
increases their impact on the forms and formats of television talk with which they are associated.
Television talk shows originally emerged out of two central traditions: news and entertainment. Over time hybrid forms developed that mixed news,
public affairs, and entertainment. These hybrid forms occupy a middle ground position between news and entertainment, though their hosts (Phil
Donahue, Oprah Winfrey, and Geraldo Rivera, for example) often got their training in journalism. Approximately a third of the major talk show hosts
listed at the end of the essay came out of news. The other two thirds came from entertainment (comedy in particular).
Within the journalistic tradition, the names Edward R. Murrow, Mike Wallace, Ted Koppel and Bill Moyers stand out. News talk hosts like
Murrow, Koppel, and Moyers do not have bands, sidekicks, or a studio audience. Their roles as talk show hosts are extensions of their roles as
reporters and news commentators. Their shows appear in evening when more adult and older aged viewers are watching. The morning host teams that
mix "happy talk" and information also generally come from the news background. This format was pioneered by NBC's Sylvester "Pat" Weaver and
host Dave

Question: Where Do Our Attitudes About Good And Bad Language
Question: Where do our attitudes about good and bad language come from and how do they correlate with language discrimination?
Ever since the beginning of time, communication has never been considered foreign to any living creature. As a child, you automatically pick up from
your surroundings even if you are unaware of it at that very moment in time, same type of concept with language. When you hear your family members,
your peers, and other types of "influential" individuals communicate, your brain acts as a sponge in a sense and absorbs what information you hear
from them. Now, not all things that other people say are positive especially when it comes to language. For instance, you are taught from a very young
age that they way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What this means is that people make judgements off the way others communicate, which is something you already may have known because you might
do the same exact thing on a daily basis. Language is something that is sacred in a sense because it is something that makes you the person you are
today or is just the reason why people look at you the way they do, it is what makes you special. As I had stated previously, the attitudes about good
and bad language come from "influential" individuals. Now, the reason I use the word influential is because it is almost impossible to pinpoint what
people everyone sees or hears from and try to emulate what those influential people preach into their daily lives. Influential people may be parents,
friends, celebrities, journalists, or government officials, basically those people who you feel have the biggest input/ impact on the way you think
about things. One of the most powerful figures that we try to emulate from are celebrities, without a doubt. When you see a celebrity, someone who
has a lot of money, you will automatically assume that whatever they say, it must mean something. In a sense, we idolize celebrities because they are
powerful, they can go anywhere their hearts desire just because they want to. We all wish to be like some

How Did Harry Truman Persevere
After Roosevelt's passing, then–President Harry Truman just began to learn about his predecessor's conflicts in Europe and Asia. With this, grit was
shown by the way he handled World War Two, which will be discussed later. Harry S. Truman was born in Lamar, Missouri on May 8th, 1884. They
later moved to Independence. His family was not that wealthy, and he worked while in high school. Then several jobs after he graduated in 1901.
This is how he showed perseverance, passion and integrity throughout his life and with the challenges he faced. To start off, Truman was a shy and
nervous child, and he worked his way out using perseverance. As it's made apparent, biography.com, a website of multiple contributors for online
biographies, shares that Truman was shy and nervous. He always was nervous around women that were older than him, but eventually gained
confidence throughout his life. Early in his life, he had complications with his vision, and so he had thick–rimmed... Show more content on

haberdashery. It was basically a shop that sells men's accessories like wrist watches, pocket watches, and wallets. He and his partner had very much
success with the business, but due to the time frame, which was 1929, they had to shut down because of the Great Depression. Seven years prior, with
the help of Pendergast and his uncle, he successfully was elected to a county court judge position. During this time, he gained a passion for politics

Pre Traditional And Non Traditional Media
Over the last fifteen to twenty years, and especially since 2008, more and more Americans are getting their news from non–traditional media sources
such as on–line news or social media. Few things have changed so significantly as the media, and the way in which Americans consume information.
Non–traditional news programs such as the Daily Show and the Colbert Report have become increasingly popular. Although these shows may be
dismissed by some as legitimate news sources, studies show viewers of Stewart and Colbert are among the best informed in the country.
Another example of non–traditional media that is fairly new is that of John Oliver, a British comedian, who became a star when he filled in for Jon
Stewart on The Daily Show for a few ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Weinman references Ellen E. Jones thinking that, the key reason for this is "he does what he does with a sense of humor and an awareness of cultural
sensitivities".
According to Weinman, there are multiple reasons that Oliver's new show has been a success thus far. To maximize the exposure of his show to
viewers, Weinman references how, "At a time when other TV studios are hoarding their content, trying to keep it on their own sites, Oliver 's
producers have made a deliberate decision to free up his routines and make them as widely accessible as possible". Weinman points out key segments
are uploaded to the show 's official account on YouTube the day after Oliver's show airs. Jaime Weinman ultimately claims, "The combination of a
huge online presence and a genuine activist spirit could make Oliver 's show something we 've never seen before: a comedy show that gets results".
What are some of the benefits to these different news sources? What are some of the drawbacks? Our class lecture notes reference several benefits
to online news that make it more popular than, and even preferred to traditional news sources. First it is rather convenient. We do not live lives that
allow us to be at home and in front of a television at a certain time, but most of us can find ten or fifteen minutes a day to get online and catch up on
world events. We can get an app for a certain site, allowing us to receive alerts about breaking stories. In other words, in today's

Satire and Propaganda Essay
Many see propaganda as undermining reason. Propaganda works with the emotions to get a mass to do a certain action. Since propaganda tries to
remain hidden, are there any in the world who see it and try to uncover such propaganda? Satirical television and radio shows as well as newspapers
challenge the conceptions of which we take for granted and of which are propaganda. How does satire function in relation to propaganda? First, one
must define propaganda and since many have done so already, I shall use the Sheryl Ross model. Her model defines propaganda as "an epistemically
defective message designed with the intention to persuade a socially significant group of people on behalf of a political institution, organization, or
cause."... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jon Stewart treats the pundits as well as the political figures as propaganda. He discovers the falsities committed by the pundits and the political
figures and puts his discoveries out to the public to watch as entertainment. However, as Stewart discovers propaganda and calls it out, he also makes
propaganda. His cause is for entertainment directed at group of individuals who watch his television show. It is epistemically defective as claimed by
The Daily Show's website. "One anchor, six correspondents, zero credibility. If you're tired of the stodginess of the evening newscasts and you can't
bear to sit through the spinmeisters and shills on the 24–hour cable news network, don't miss The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, the nightly half–hour
series unburdened by objectivity, journalistic integrity or even accuracy. ... The Daily Show with Jon Stewart–– it's even better than being informed."
Therefore, one can treat The Daily Show as propaganda. However, since The Daily Show contains both truth and falsities, it can appear to be
propagandistic, but if one were to analyze the arguments in the show, one would find that it is not epistemically defective; the entertainment is. This is
why twenty–four hour news broadcasters have a difficult time fighting it, since it mixes both arguments and entertainment together. Now The Colbert
Report is a different

On December 13, 1945 in Memphis Tennessee a little boy was born to Luther and Lenora Cain. His friends and family know him as the "Hermanator",

right around the corner from Georgia State University in the west side of Atlanta, known to many now as "The Bluff".
Herman Cain's mother was a maid, and his father was a chauffeur for Robert Woodruff, president of Coca–Cola. His parents worked hard, but only had

Cain experienced significant success at Coca–Cola, and later moved to the Pillsbury Company. While at Pillsbury, Cain switched from information
technology to business management. This would be where Cain got his first real experience in the hospitality field. He was named regional vice
president of their restaurant division, known to many as Burger King. At that time, Cain's region, the Philadelphia region, was ranked at the bottom of
the twelve Burger King groups. To learn the ropes, he had to start at the grill and other jobs many with master degrees might think were below them.
Within three years of Cain taking over, the Philadelphia region became the highest performing region in the company. Many would see this as a
successful career, but Herman Cain was not done yet. Actually, he was just getting started in his career.
In 1986, Herman Cain began what would later be known as his most successful position. He was made President of the Godfather's Pizza chain. Cain
once described the condition of the company before he took over as having "one foot in the grave, and one foot on a banana peel". Godfather's had
lawsuits, a failing menu, and an unmotivated workforce to name a few problems. Cain took on all the problems head first. He began by closing twenty

What Is A Voyeur? Essay
What is a Voyeur? It's a person who gets pleasure from secretly watching others in private moments. In The Living Room, the narrator's voyeurism of
her neighbors is wrong and she continually dismisses her intrusive violations of privacy of the couple. She expresses guilt that is due to her lack of
non–consent from the couple and clearly violates their privacy. The person/s being viewed are intruded upon and are most often damaged by being
watched. Throughout mankind we have been curious of the unknown and get pleasure from watching others and we have acknowledged this
behavior and the acceptance of it as normal. The heavy appeal of social media and reality shows are now providing us with the ability to compare
ourselves with other people in private or intimate situations that either we wish we could be in or happy we are not. This bad behavior is
unacceptable, but where do the lines of privacy begin or end. Ever caught yourself watching someone or people watching at the mall? Of course
you have. We are all a little voyeuristic, in the sense that we like to watch people's private lives and revealing moments, all the things that we can't
normally see when the curtains are left open. When we think of a voyeur, we dance around the image of a Peeping Tom, a pervert lurking at a
window watching a female undress. Voyeurism is originally derived as a psychiatric term meaning, "The practice of obtaining sexual gratification by

Does Trade Shows Have an Impact on the Wider Fashion World?
While most of your time as a designer is spent on looking for the best designs to present, the process of getting those designs to the consumer becomes
a complicated process. Fashion trade shows like Womenswear in Nevada presents an excellent platform to meet with new customers as well as interact
with the existing ones. Although fashion weeks help to further promote brands, trade events do more as they offer insight behand a brand's origin.
They also appeal to the emotional side of fashion.
But do fashion trade shows have an impact on the wider fashion world? The answer lies in what the event provides. As a designer, attending a trade
show gives you an opportunity to learn from customers and get feedback on your products. In the fashion world, it's crucial to know what consumers
are saying about your products and your brand. It's a great place to know what excites people about your brand as well as get cues on where you can

Analysis Of Truman 's ' The Truman Show '
The Truman Show is centred on a man–made island called SeaHaven where a man named Truman Burbank has been televised without his knowledge
since birth. The show is a 24 hour live tv show where every aspect of Truman's life is shown. As Truman grows older he begins to notice unsual
events that leads him to believe that there is something incongruent with what people are telling him and what he experiences in his day to day life.
As Truman begins to test the boundaries he realizes that the town seems to revolve around him and his desire to escape comes to an all time high.
Eventually Truman begins on a journey to escape his virtual reality. Despite the boundaries that the director throws at him he eventually escapes and
will try to find his way in the real world. This movie made me sympathize for Truman being that he has no privacy and is oblivious to his lack of
freedom. This movie shows how it is possible to create an "ideal" community and how New Urbanism can be created and maintained.
New Urbanism essentially promotes an inclusive community that is close in proximity, which the ccreator of the Truman Show creates. There is many
positives that comes with New Urbanism most being that all aspects of the city would be in walking distance which results in reduced cars and mixed
housing. New Urbanism brings on increased communication and interaction between individuals which is facilitated by a city centre. Mumford writes

Definitions And Considerations Of New Markets
Implementations and Considerations
Introduction of New Markets introducing new markets offers profound potential to attract new and old shoppers to the locality. However it also makes
way for many complications given the Camberwell council already operates a fresh food market four days a week. The structural aesthetics and
general cleanliness of a market plays a pivotal role for the ultimate consumer. Should the markets look modern and clean then shoppers are more likely
to spend – should the markets look old and dirty then shoppers are more likely to never come again.

As the council has no movie theatres of their own they must relay this idea through the cooperation with Rivoli. As Rivoli is a privately run
enterprise the council must offer them some form of financial benefit for their partnership. The focal point in deciding the partnership with Rivoli
lies on the choice of night the council wishes to introduce this idea upon along with the compensation type the council is willing to offer. Should it
be a Friday or Saturday night Rivoli will expect more for financial compensation for their services than if it were scheduled for any other day of the
week due to the nature of potential attendees and how most people have Friday and Saturday nights off from work. Will the council then have enough
capital required to host the event on a Friday or Saturday night for the sake of multiculturalism? Or is the cheaper alternative and hosting the event
during other days of the week more appropriate? Also shall payment be addressed as a lump sum? Or will the profit split method be used? Assuming
the profit split method is used what happens if no profit is generated through this event? Will Rivoli finally then cancel the event due the

The Cosby Show was the pinnacle of American television. Based on an affluent African–American family in Brooklyn, New York, The Cosby Show

Alongside Rashad was Bill Cosby as Cliff Huxtable, an eccentric and whimsical obstetrician. Together, Clair and Cliff reared five children in the

On these shows, participants are thrown in volatile situations and are expected to compete with each for a monetary prize (Delisle 43). There may be
several reality show genres but they tend to follow the same formula: The shows seek extremes–contestants courting seeming danger, hostile to

Though these reality shows are entertaining, they give viewers a false sense of reality. Reality shows portray competition as the sole way to achieve

The director (Peter Weir) has many views about modern day society that he is trying to convey in The Truman Show though two were stand outs. The
first will focus on is that we will never have the whole truth. It is impossible because of the amount of people that lie and bring deceit. Also, the
world and media tries the hide things from us that degrade the higher society or itself in our eyes. It might cause a backlash like from the people,
like in The Truman show when Christof said 'Listen to me, Truman. There's no more truth out there than there is in the world that I created for you.
Same lies. The same deceit. But in my world, you have nothing to fear. I know you better than you know yourself.' Subsequently, when Truman said
'You never had a camera in my head.' From these two quotes show that you can't know everything about a person just buy watching them their whole
life. So in turn, means that not the whole truth can be found. Also that Christof is trying to 'protect' him from the real world, which is like and

facing. The minstrel show evolved from two types of entertainment popular in America before 1830: the impersonation of blacks given by white
actors between acts of plays or during circuses, and the performances of black musicians who sang, with banjo accompaniment, in city streets. The
'father of American minstrelsy' was Thomas Dartmouth 'Daddy' Rice, who between 1828 and 1831 developed a song–and–dance routine in which he

Tambo) at one end and a performer on the bone castanets (Mr. Bones) at the other, the singing of songs with harmonized choruses, the exchange of
jokes between the endmen and the performer in the center seat (Mr. Interlocutor), and the introduction of special variety acts at the conclusion of the
bill. Though many of these shows claimed that these were true African American songs that had been brought back by people who had observed
plantation slaves, this wasn?t necessarily true. For example one of the more common songs such as ?Jim Crow?by Thomas Rice was simply
inspired by a crippled African American that Rice had seen dancing and singing a song with the chorus of ?Wheel about, an' turn about, an' do jis
so, Eb'ry time I wheel about, I jump Jim Crow.? Many people were lead to believe that this was how every African American sang and danced and
failed to realize that this was simply the way one man did it. Actual African American actors were rare at the time. There were only a few African
Americans that actually appeared on stage and those who did only had minor roles such as servants or shoe shiners. This was mainly because the
world was used to African Americans being slaves doing jobs such as these and people weren?t ready to accept African Americans as equals yet. There
had however been several attempts of African American stage performance such as New York?s African Grove theater. This theater was founded

Quantitative Analysis : Trade Shows Essay
Quantitative Analysis: Trade Shows
Quantitatively, the trade shows distribution channel and the sales representatives distribution channel differ mainly in their cost structures; trade shows
would make use of a high fixed costs–low variable costs structure while sales representatives would use the opposite. The high fixed cost of trade shows
($10,433.33 per show1) stems from the fact that Foxy's owners have never before attended a trade show, so they would need to purchase
everything necessary for the show for the first time (material samples, a booth, etc.). They also know for certain that if they take this route they will
attend 10 shows in fiscal year 2005, so they can treat any expenses related to the shows themselves as fixed expenses for the year ($104,333.33).
Since they don't need to hire any extra employees to attend the shows, the only variable expenses they would end up being Foxy's jewelry production
cost, totalling $236.25 per order2. This kind of cost structure has important implications for the profit that Foxy would earn as a result. Each order
placed will have a much higher contribution margin ($332.75)3 because of the minimized variable cost, which means that after the company is able to
break even, more of the sales revenue will be retained as profit than would be in the sales representative method. However, this advantage comes with
the tradeoff of a much higher breakeven point (314 orders)4.
The high fixed–cost structure also has important secondary

Clinton 's Assault Rifle Ban
Clinton's assault rifle ban in the nineties. Some may argue that this violates Second Amendment rights, since it eliminates some choice in magazines
for firearms. However, no federal judge has ruled that the New York ban is unconstitutional, so a national version of the NY SAFE act should be
constitutional as well.
The Gun Show Loophole With the current gun control regulations in America, all federally licensed dealers must run background checks on their
transactions. However, not all sellers have to be licensed, including those who sell at gun shows (Sherman, 2016). This creates what Democrats refer
to as the Gun Show Loophole, where people who would be denied the purchase of a gun due to a federal background check are able to acquire ... Show

99). This analysis assumes that all crime guns purchased at gun shows would have failed a proper background check, although this is not true in reality.
With that assumption, closing the gun show loophole would prevent 1,394 assault–by–firearm related injuries, and save over $4 billion each year. It
is unclear as to whether or not the statistic on crime guns coming from gun shows remains at two percent now, it being twenty years later. Though
the $4 billion benefit for the $850 million cost sounds promising, these numbers have the highest margins of error out of the three options, simply
because of the lack of data. A supermajority of Americans favor making private gun sales and sales at gun shows subject to background checks, with
80% of republicans and 83% of democrats supporting the idea (Pew Research Center, 2013). However, only 57% supported Senate measures to do so
back in 2013, citing that the bills included "restrictions beyond background checks," and opened a "slippery slope towards more government power,"
(Pew Research Center, 2013). Any bill that aims to close the gun show loophole would have to do just that, and nothing more. Extending its reach any
farther than that would not garner the same supermajority of support that we found with this relatively simple alternative. Therefore, this policy leaves
gun owners with a high amount of liberty, since there will be

Media And Visual Culture Interpreted The Notion Of Black...

  • 1. Media and Visual Culture Interpreted the Notion of Black... Black masculinity has been a very intricate and compelling notion. Through media and visual culture, an operational interpretation of black masculinity was coined. From the emergence of the original gangster (OG), to the successful, intellectual middle class black male–Cliff Huxtable as evidenced by a fictional character in the Cosby show. As more black celebrities advance in their career, more specifically comedians, they further define and challenge the image of black masculinity. When it comes to masculinity, there is a standard ideation of what the ideal male should be – a wealthy, heterosexual male. However, complicating this stigma with race makes this issue more pressing. What is black masculinity and how is its image evolving through the use of comedy? Before answering that question, we must first look at how masculinity and black masculinity is portrayed in comedy. Robert Hanke, a professor of sociology at the University of Ryerson, in his article "The mock–macho" situation comedy: hegemonic masculinity and its reiteration", addresses the topic of masculinity in comedy by examining how comedy works to reiterate hemogenic masculinity by looking at what he terms two "mock–macho sitcoms" –Home Improvement and Coach. Hanke argues the role of comedy as a strategy to reconstruct manhood from that of just physical actions but emotional as well. He supports this claim by examining at the central male character –Tim Allen, as a recombinant image of manhood, combing middle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Showboat This paper is a critique of a production of Show Boat, a musical classic with compositions by Jerome Kern and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, which was performed and produced by NETworks Presentations LLC at Emens Auditorium on the 14th of February 2001. Clayton Phillips, the director of the production, attempted to test the waters of racial discrimination by exploring controversial themes such as prejudice and interracial relationships. Show Boat takes an enlightened approach to ethnic controversy by using both music and drama to express the feelings and hopes of the characters to the audience. Even though I enjoyed the production, I felt that it was lacking in terms of its plot and may have overused its melodic reprises. However, Show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The scenes and props complimented the attire of the performers, blending together create a magnificent display. The scenery was realistic enough to afford the viewer an escape into depths of the show. The setting was beautiful and the structures almost lifelike, excepting the absence of a front screen door. It seems that almost all plays and television shows I have viewed neglect this detail. The stage lighting played a key role in the show by setting the mood of the performance during soulful, pensive songs. In contrast, the lighting proved to be a detriment by overbearing the performance of the artists, in that one's attention was drawn to the glare of extreme quantities of makeup rather than the actions of the characters. This was most notable during the final portions of the production. The entertainers gave their characters genuine life through their gestures, attitude and charm. Even the way the voices led one to believe that the characters were actually presenting their own thoughts and ideas, not those of fictional characters. During the play, the voices of the performers were quite audible, excepting certain musical presentations when the lyrics of the songs were at points nearly indiscernible. Even with consideration given to this technical glitch, the sound quality was quite agreeable and the songs enjoyable. The voices of the performers were strong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Does Writing Change Over Time Writing has changed a lot over the years. The hot topics fade and new ones replace them. From early America to 1870 there was not many changes in the topics because there was not as many people as there are now. There was only three considerable changes to writing styles and topics. The writing styles and topics over the years have changed from myths, to God, and finally to individualism. Writing started off as myths. There are four functions of a myth. The myth must include all of creation, day to day function of the world, support customs/rituals, and how to deal with trials and tribulations. An example of a myth is The World On The Turtle's Back. That myth was written by the Iroquois and was about how the world was created. Their myths were generally communicated orally. The myth talked about a heaven where the gods lived. One became curious and fell into the underworld. The woman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was in play when the Puritans came over and settled in America. They tried to be godly and always do the correct thing. An example of this type of writing is The Crucible. The Crucible is a play written about a true event. These godly people did not like witches. They thought that witches were possessed by the devil so they killed them. They thought they were doing the right thing, but some people took advantage of it. Those girls were ungodly, but everyone thought they were godly. The Puritans thought that children were innocent (they never lied). That is not the case and these ungodly children took advantage and twisted these people's minds. Some people were godly and did the right thing but most people were not, even though that is what they thought they were doing. Those people thought that they were ridding Salem of the devil and allowing God back in but what they were really doing was pushing God out and opening the door for the devil. • 4. Descriptive Essay About A Cat Show I went to the cat show hosted by the Santa Monica Cat Club on October 7, 2017 at the Pomona Fairplex. I always wanted to go to a cat show so I was curious about the one offered by the Santa Monica Cat Club. I did not know what to expect at all. I am used to seeing what dog shows look like on TV. The overall environment was relaxing and everyone was relatively calm. At the entrance, I was given a colorful pamphlet with thecat breeds that were participating in the show. I was surprised when I entered the building. There were so many cat breeds but the overall location felt pretty small probably because they do not need as much space as dogs. I went to every cat that was present in their cat carrier. Some of them were not there because they were being shown on stage. I wondered if they ever felt stressed being around so many people for long hours. They probably get used to it after competing at different shows. The breeders seemed pretty nice and they were willing to let me pet their cats and to tell me more about their breeds. There were so many cats I could not keep track of their names, awards, and breeds. The breeds that really stood out to me were the Toygers, Abyssinians, Sphynxs, Persians, and the American Shorthairs. At the time I did not know as many cat breeds, but I am happy that I learned some before going because it made the experience that more meaningful. • 7. Allegory and Truman Show Allegory and Truman Show The Allegory of the Cave has many parallels with The Truman Show. Initially, Truman is trapped in his own "cave"; a film set or fictional island known as Seahaven. Truman's journey or ascension into the real world and into knowledge is similar to that of Plato's cave dweller. In this paper, I will discuss these similarities along with the very intent of both of these works whose purpose is for us to question our own reality. In his Allegory Plato shows us how a man ascends from the darkness of a cave to the light of the outside world. In this ascent Plato's man passes through four distinct stages of cognition: from imagination, to belief, understanding, and finally knowledge. Imagination In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, his reality is now based on these objects vs. what is truly real. In Truman's second phase he starts to believe that something is wrong with his world based also on his perception and his common sense. First, his father Kirk who had been written out of the show years earlier sneaks back onto the set. This sends Truman into a teenage flashback of his last moments with Lauren a girlfriend that had tried to tell him the truth before she was written off to Fiji. He also notices that the radio is following him around and people all around him are acting very strange. At this point he does not know what is wrong but he knows he is onto "something big" as he tells his "best friend" Marlon. Understanding Some might disagree at precisely which point Truman "sees the light" and begins to understand what is really happening. Like with Plato's cave dweller the process of understanding is a slow one. "He will require to grow accustomed to the sight of the upper world. And first he will see the shadows best, next the reflections of men and other objects in the water, and then the objects themselves..." In the same way Truman's accent into understanding was a slow process. The scene where he notices that his wife is crossing her fingers in one of their wedding pictures is that crucial moment. From that point on we get the feeling that he has gone from assuming there was something wrong to

Jon Stewart Discussion On The Ferguson, Missouri Coverage Introduction The satire option that I chose for the purpose of this assignment is the Jon Stewart discussion on the Ferguson, Missouri coverage. Here, Jon, the satirist is an arbiter of American political media, and as a media critic, he is also the former television host of The Daily Show which is a satirical news program that airs on Comedy Central. In the video, Jon Stewart critiqued topics revolving around the shooting of teenager Michael Brown by the police. The topics ranged from police brutality, black lives matter, negative stereotypes, double standards, white privileged and an unacceptable mentality of sheer ignorance of some Americans towards people of color, in other words, African American in a comedic but very real sense.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence, the claims are believable as the show relies heavily on the use of various news footages, often in a documentary way that employs archival video to show contrast and contradiction, even if the purpose is satirical rather than reportorial. The content on the show is unburdened by objectivity, journalistic integrity or even accuracy, nevertheless, it speaks volumes with Jon Stewart's big unauthoritative persona as he attempts to breakdown on selective representation. Content Reliability The reliability of the content presented in The Daily show with regards to the Ferguson, Missouri coverage by Jon Stewart is reliable enough or fairly reliable. I say that because as much as it is credible, it does have a real yet comedic satire spin to it. As mentioned earlier, The Daily Show relies on various news footages and instead of solely relying on these bias sources, Jon Snow puts his own critical spit to it. He raises controversial issues that mainstream media coincidently neglects. With regards to the Ferguson, Missouri controversy, he filled in the blanks and dared to say the unsaid and emphasised the existence of white supremacist and white privilege and compare and contrasted white and black people experience and interaction with the law enforcements agents. It is set in a town called Seahaven, which is essentially a simulation of the real world similar enough to the outside world that the viewing audience can relate to it. As might be the case with Plato?s cave dwellers, as they are stepping into the light of the real world. I think that a majority of people, as do I, would agree that there is something wrong with what was done to Truman. We would all tend to believe that it would be a sad existence for any person to be so fooled by his environment and be so oblivious to the truth for his whole life. However, Truman?s situation is a metaphor for the current media climate that we live in today. The movie's message to us is that we are stuck in a media landscape full of fantasies that is catered to the interests of more powerful people. If we want to live an authentic life and be free, we should put distance between ourselves and the comfort that is our media filled culture. We have to leave the safety that is the media's grasp and be willing to live in the world the way it actually is. In the 1990's, television culture in particular was in full swing. Television is such a powerful tool as it has the potential to heavily influence our mindsets on topics. The Truman Show showed us an exaggerated reality of 90's culture through a utopian/dystopian society in which morals are put aside for the purpose of a television show. Since its inception in the 1950s, television has become an integral part of American society. Television has always been a means of entertainment, but it has developed into something further. Television is a tool that can reflect and nurture values and morals. Throughout the years, television and our society have had a symbiotic relationship. Our culture influenced television, while television influenced our society. Rhetorical Analysis of The Truman Show What I aim to do with this rhetorical analysis is bring forth to the reader a deeply immersive look at the rhetorical concepts present in the film The Truman Show. It is important for a viewer to fully understand the underlying messages and subtle undertones in between the lines, so to speak. The Truman Show is one man's life being played out in a closed environment for the entertainment of the outside world. Most important to note, Truman Burbank has no clue that his whole life has been little more than just a television program produced on a grand scale to produce the image of reality in a dome. When searching for self–awareness and knowledge outside of the Garden, his behavior is condemned by his God. Without Christof's undying credibility, he would not be allowed to play God. Within the same scope of thinking, Truman has a limited amount of choices he can make. This brings to light the true definition of free will and as to whether there is a true definition to be heard. When given the choices only to walk left or walk right with the absence of the ability to stay put, is choosing one of two inevitable ends really a choice empowered by free will? The logos presented in the film rests with the true nature of Truman's free will, or lack thereof. In a scripted world of thespians and set pieces, all with a certain purpose in mind, how can an individual exist with free will? Truman has decisions thrust upon him and they are driven into him by the guilt he possesses from the death of his father. When Truman confronts his mother with a desire to shake up the status quo, to get out of his snow globe, he is tamed with the simple reminder that he is responsible for his father's death. What's so elegant and beautiful about the sinister nature of it all is that it's hidden within the context of a cleverly crafted conversation. A simple, "I never blamed ... Now, the reason I use the word influential is because it is almost impossible to pinpoint what people everyone sees or hears from and try to emulate what those influential people preach into their daily lives. Influential people may be parents, friends, celebrities, journalists, or government officials, basically those people who you feel have the biggest input/ impact on the way you think about things. One of the most powerful figures that we try to emulate from are celebrities, without a doubt. When you see a celebrity, someone who has a lot of money, you will automatically assume that whatever they say, it must mean something. In a sense, we idolize celebrities because they are powerful, they can go anywhere their hearts desire just because they want to. We all wish to be like some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pre Traditional And Non Traditional Media Over the last fifteen to twenty years, and especially since 2008, more and more Americans are getting their news from non–traditional media sources such as on–line news or social media. Few things have changed so significantly as the media, and the way in which Americans consume information. Non–traditional news programs such as the Daily Show and the Colbert Report have become increasingly popular. Although these shows may be dismissed by some as legitimate news sources, studies show viewers of Stewart and Colbert are among the best informed in the country. To maximize the exposure of his show to viewers, Weinman references how, "At a time when other TV studios are hoarding their content, trying to keep it on their own sites, Oliver 's producers have made a deliberate decision to free up his routines and make them as widely accessible as possible". Weinman points out key segments are uploaded to the show 's official account on YouTube the day after Oliver's show airs. Jaime Weinman ultimately claims, "The combination of a huge online presence and a genuine activist spirit could make Oliver 's show something we 've never seen before: a comedy show that gets results". What are some of the benefits to these different news sources? What are some of the drawbacks? Our class lecture notes reference several benefits to online news that make it more popular than, and even preferred to traditional news sources. First it is rather convenient. We do not live lives that allow us to be at home and in front of a television at a certain time, but most of us can find ten or fifteen minutes a day to get online and catch up on world events. Since propaganda tries to remain hidden, are there any in the world who see it and try to uncover such propaganda? Satirical television and radio shows as well as newspapers challenge the conceptions of which we take for granted and of which are propaganda. How does satire function in relation to propaganda? First, one must define propaganda and since many have done so already, I shall use the Sheryl Ross model. Eventually Truman begins on a journey to escape his virtual reality. Despite the boundaries that the director throws at him he eventually escapes and will try to find his way in the real world. This movie made me sympathize for Truman being that he has no privacy and is oblivious to his lack of freedom. This movie shows how it is possible to create an "ideal" community and how New Urbanism can be created and maintained. New Urbanism essentially promotes an inclusive community that is close in proximity, which the ccreator of the Truman Show creates. There is many positives that comes with New Urbanism most being that all aspects of the city would be in walking distance which results in reduced cars and mixed housing. The first will focus on is that we will never have the whole truth. It is impossible because of the amount of people that lie and bring deceit. The Minstrel shows were shows in which white performers would paint their faces black and act the role of an African American. This was called black facing. The minstrel show evolved from two types of entertainment popular in America before 1830: the impersonation of blacks given by white actors between acts of plays or during circuses, and the performances of black musicians who sang, with banjo accompaniment, in city streets. Though many of these shows claimed that these were true African American songs that had been brought back by people who had observed plantation slaves, this wasn?t necessarily true. For example one of the more common songs such as ?Jim Crow?by Thomas Rice was simply inspired by a crippled African American that Rice had seen dancing and singing a song with the chorus of ?Wheel about, an' turn about, an' do jis so, Eb'ry time I wheel about, I jump Jim Crow.? • 41. Quantitative Analysis : Trade Shows Essay Quantitative Analysis: Trade Shows Quantitatively, the trade shows distribution channel and the sales representatives distribution channel differ mainly in their cost structures; trade shows would make use of a high fixed costs–low variable costs structure while sales representatives would use the opposite. The high fixed cost of trade shows ($10,433.33 per show1) stems from the fact that Foxy's owners have never before attended a trade show, so they would need to purchase everything necessary for the show for the first time (material samples, a booth, etc.). They also know for certain that if they take this route they will attend 10 shows in fiscal year 2005, so they can treat any expenses related to the shows themselves as fixed expenses for the year ($104,333.33). Since they don't need to hire any extra employees to attend the shows, the only variable expenses they would end up being Foxy's jewelry production cost, totalling $236.25 per order2. This kind of cost structure has important implications for the profit that Foxy would earn as a result. Each order placed will have a much higher contribution margin ($332.75)3 because of the minimized variable cost, which means that after the company is able to break even, more of the sales revenue will be retained as profit than would be in the sales representative method. However, this advantage comes with the tradeoff of a much higher breakeven point (314 orders)4. The high fixed–cost structure also has important secondary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With that assumption, closing the gun show loophole would prevent 1,394 assault–by–firearm related injuries, and save over $4 billion each year. It is unclear as to whether or not the statistic on crime guns coming from gun shows remains at two percent now, it being twenty years later. Though the $4 billion benefit for the $850 million cost sounds promising, these numbers have the highest margins of error out of the three options, simply because of the lack of data. A supermajority of Americans favor making private gun sales and sales at gun shows subject to background checks, with 80% of republicans and 83% of democrats supporting the idea (Pew Research Center, 2013). However, only 57% supported Senate measures to do so back in 2013, citing that the bills included "restrictions beyond background checks," and opened a "slippery slope towards more government power," (Pew Research Center, 2013). Any bill that aims to close the gun show loophole would have to do just that, and nothing more.
