Dogma Rules Add “Character” to Italian for Beginners
Dogma Rules Add "Character" to Italian for Beginners Art films are different from mainstream films in many aspects including acting, plot, and setting.
Art filmmakers use different techniques to distinguish their films from mainstream films. The movement away from mainstream filmmaking occurred
through the creation of the Dogma Manifesto. Dogma 95 was a set of rules for film production that forced filmmakers to innovate through new
methods of filmmaking. One such film created according to the rules of Dogma 95 is Italian for Beginners. Although Italian for Beginners does not
follow all of the aesthetic rules of Dogma film production, the characters and their stories allow the viewer to engage with the film on both a formal and

He conveys these through simple responses, for example, when he shies away from women and the way he carries himself. These little reactions give
us a deeper look into the feelings of the character. This looseness is part of Dogma films and the "new attitude toward filming... they shoot not only
many takes of the same scene but also improvised and alternative takes" (Schepelern 87). Therefore, the actor cannot base his or her character on the
events that will occur. The actor must establish a character and try to evoke emotions. This results in characters that are not typical and predictable.
As a Dogma film, Italian for Beginners, was distinct from acting in other films and the predictability of characters in those films. This film was
original because the actors were allowed to innovate. The Dogma movement gave actors the freedom and environment they needed to evoke a
response from the audience. Mainstream films are also starting to focus more on characters and narrative than in the past (Schepelern 98). Perhaps, in
the future other aspects of Dogma 95 will be used more widely. If wide use of Dogma techniques occurs, film producers will look for other ways to
adapt filmmaking. Filmmaking has gone through many changes over the years, such as the New Wave movements, Dogma and_________. Writers and
producers have looked for ways to make their films standout and they will most likely continue to be inventive in the

Comparing Cosmogirl and Cosmopolitan Essay
Comparing Cosmogirl and Cosmopolitan
A comparison between "Cosmogirl" and "Cosmopolitan". Two successful magazines. One woman's' and one teenage.
Would you read the same magazines as your daughter? Would you expect the contents in a magazine aimed at women to be diversely different from a
magazine aimed at teenagers?
I think that because teenagers are at very different stages of their lives to adults and therefore have different concerns, issues and perspectives on life,
they should have separate influences such as magazines. Magazines portray a fantasy lifestyle for many people and so they are attracted to, and
influenced by, them.
I am going to investigate the differences and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The "Cosmo" part of the title is in the same font as "Cosmopolitan". This links it to the successful, well–loved, parent magazine. This automatically
gives it credibility and attracts younger audiences who want to be like the women in "Cosmopolitan" when they grow up. The "girl" part in the title
obviously suggests the target audience and the fact that it differs from "Cosmopolitan". It could also appeal to a younger audience because
"Cosmopolitan" is abbreviated to "Cosmo" for this title and abbreviating words is a trend amongst young people.
Secondly I am going to look at the next thing you would see after the title, the models. Both models on "Cosmopolitan" and "Cosmogirl" are female
because the audience is female and want a magazine that can tell them how to look and act and the models are examples. They are around the
expected age of the readers and are maybe what the magazines editors' picture as their ideal reader. They reflect what the magazine stands for and the
position of that age group at the time. For example, a magazine aimed at eleven to twelve year olds would have a younger model on the cover and it
would be girlier than a magazine aimed at teenagers aged fifteen to seventeen.
In the case of my magazines the cover girls are very attractive but in different ways. The model for "Cosmopolitan" is aged around twenty whereas the

The African-American Image in Films
The African–American Image in Films
Films serve many functions like education, entertainment, handbooks of social behavior, and a transmitter of cultural and social values. The most
effective way in which stereotypes are perpetuated in America is through the mediums of film and television. American films mostly played an
influential part in fixing images of ethnic groups in the minds of audience. The negative representation of films or movies sometimes reinforces false
assumptions (as poor, dangerous and dumb) about minority groups, for example African–American. The way African–Americans were represented in
past films can be proved misrepresentation of minority group by an average viewer. The lack of control of films over the ... Show more content on

In the1998 film 'Deep Impact,' it's a scene that never would have been imagined; a well–dressed attractive woman stands before a group of reporters,
and announces, "Ladies and Gentlemen, the President of the United States". At this point, a middle–aged African–American man walked out, the
African–American man is Morgan Freeman. In this film, Freeman's portrayal of the most powerful man in the world seemed more presidential. There
was a time when African–Americans were considered as weak and dumb. But those times have changed, and it is reflected on the big screen. In fact,
there have been several films over the past ten years that African–Americans have shown as presidents, or presidential candidates
For the longest time, one of the biggest taboos in film has been the subject of interracial relationships. The best example of this taboo would have to
be two earlier versions of William Shakespeare's, 'Othello' (1952, 1965) a story that deals with the subject of interracial romance. In both cases, white
actors in black face were cast to play the famous Moor of Venice (1952, 1965). But, nowadays story has changed, a blackactor playing a black
character and the climate of films has also changed, something as little as a kiss between a black man and a white woman on screen. The
African–American image in the past that had been perpetuated by Yaphet Frederick Kotto as criminal has changed to loving role of African–American.

A Bright Room Called Day by Tony Kushner
I saw the play "A Bright Room Called Day" by Tony Kushner on the 1st of November. I can say for sure that plays are always different and this play
was completely different from the one we watched a couple weeks ago– "Rent". This play is serious in its content , it is a specific historical play,
which took place in Germany, more exactly Berlin, in the 1930s. The story is about five good friends during the time of the rise ofAdolf Hitler and the
Nazi party, the time before World War II. The story surrounded the maincharacter– Agnes, who just loves her home and lives on her own and she
thinks that everything will be alright as long as she stays away from negative influences. Representational and presentational acting can be seen in this
play and helps us understand the character more. The characters' acting I want to focus on is Vealtinc Husz, the lover of Agnes played by Chase Byrd.
He is a one–eyed Hungarian director of movies, who moved to Berlin to became a part of the communist revolution party and ended up meeting the love
of his life, Agnes. The main idea of his work, what he was interested in, was to promote propaganda art and also to develop some promotional ideas
and changes in the communist community. Husz's problem (and maybe not the best side of his character)is that he talks more rather taking action.
One type of acting shown by the character of Husz is representational. This type of acting is playing from the inside. Husz is a person who doesn't

The Pros And Cons Of Sex Trafficking
In 2000, the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, or TVPA, was passed to identify "severe forms" of human trafficking, create harsh criminal
penalties for offenders and provide support for victims. The TVPA defines sex trafficking as a situation in which a "commercial sex act is induced
by force, fraud, or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform such act has not attained 18 years of age ("How Porn Fuels Sex
Trafficking")." The inclusion of the word "coercion" means that a commercial sex act can be classified as sex trafficking as long as a victim is
coerced or intimidated. The organization Fight the New Drug identifies that there are often instances in the porn industry where the actor or actress is
threatened with lawsuits or charges ("How Porn Fuels Sex Trafficking"). Human–trafficking isn't the only illegal industry fueled by sexual violence and
exploitation. The wide–spread availability of cameras in devices such as portable cameras and cell phones has made it easier to take secret recordings of
another's intimate body parts and other sexually explicit material without the individuals consent or knowledge. Growing internet access has facilitated
the nonconsensual distribution of those images but the criminal laws in the United States have not stayed up to date with these developments. Because
of this, victims of revenge porn and nonconsensual pornography do not have adequate means to seek justice. In a study conducted by Cynthia
Najdowski at the University

The Conceptual Schema Of Women
Women are seen powerless in many instances and Marilyn Frye details the accounts where women are viewed as second to men in "To see and Be
Seen." Frye uses a metaphysics approach to better understand how people come to power. She gives a metaphysical understanding of how the world
has been determined by people of power, which throughout history has been men. Men have been in authority throughout history and have come up
with society's conceptual schema. Frye alludes to people in power don't want to see people who are submissive. Men fit into the conceptual schema,
women are excluded but are allowed in the schema in certain ways and lesbians are not included. Lesbians are seen as unnatural and are not
recognized in the schema. Their perspective on society is not taken into account, whereas women are recognized but their own perspective on society is
completely erased.
Men in charge do not identify women or lesbian's experiences and view women as a mystery. The conceptual schema lead women to view society as
men do, but lesbians do not view the world through men's perspective. Suppressing a groups perspective excluded them from reality. Men are dominant
and women are dominated. Frye mentions Sarah Hoagland's paper saying, "In the conceptual schemes of phallocracies... there is no such thing as a
lesbian. This puts a lesbian in the interesting and peculiar position of being something that does not exist, and this position is a singular vantage point
with respect to the

Essay On Fight Club
He 'd probably watched Fight Club one too many times growing up, both the novel and the film had a marked impact on Trent 's band and indeed
his public persona. It 'd been a rocky road for him to reach that place, and the character that he played was one born from necessity. Trent 's father
was a lifelong biker, and the president of a prominent outlaw MC in California. The man sold drugs, pimped out girls and did a little bit of
everything and he 'd been a convict for much of his son 's early years. As a result, Trent was forced to grow up in group homes, and abuse from his
caretakers and older children hardened the boy, by the time his dad got out, he was a teenager and the two reconnected with Trent frequently getting

Mexican–Americans and they 'd lived their entire lives in the L.A area just as Trent had. They were the drummer and one of the guitarists
respectively. The white guy was named Jackson and he was a longtime friend of Trent 's and another one of the guitarists, he was an especially
liberal minded giant of a guy that stood about 6 '8" and was covered head to toe in tattoos. Of everyone in the group, he was the most hardcore
against any sort of racism and before blowing big, his claim to fame was being televised nationally at a riot, where he punched a Nazi sympathizer
in the face quite hard. He drank like a fish, but was otherwise a sweetheart with a new family of his own, and Trent was proud to be godfather to his
twins. Their bassist was Trent 's cousin Reggie who had come from a family of musicians. In addition they had two more members, one was an
Asian–American young man who everyone called kid and the other was a black woman who was petite but probably the most volatile in temperament
which was saying something. They were there to add texture to the sound and both handled similar duties of sampling, keyboards, percussion and
turntables. The kid 's background was in Hip–Hop initially, and he 'd been a very popular DJ at a number of clubs before signing on, while The Female

Boogie Nights Essay
Boogie Nights
Boogie Nights is a film that aptly embodies the extravagant decadence of morals during the disco era, while also creating empathy for the debauched
innocents who find themselves caught up in a lifestyle of hard–core sex, drugs and rock and roll. Sadly, while attempting to replace the loving family
relationships they are lacking and in their search for self worth, these characters pay the highest price for fame. The film deftly takes the viewer to the
seedy underside of the pornography business. But, like many of the young people who find themselves entangled in it, it is first introduced as a life of
each and luxury with many good times and no consequences. The film portrays the life of a unique young man who gives himself ... Show more content

Jack leaves Dirk with an open invitation to join him because as he says, "I have a feeling there's something wonderful in those jeans just waiting to get

Boogie Nights is wonderfully written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, and succeeds in introducing in its viewer to a new perspective on a
world often viewed socially with scorn. After subtly choreographing the introduction of the relationships between characters, the film then highlights a
slice of each individual's life, giving the viewer a further insight into their motivations and/or regrets. Each character is searching for something that is
missing in their lives, and the pornography business seems to provide them with what they are lacking. This is evidenced when Dirk's need for a
loving mother figure is fulfilled by Amber, who desperately wants to be reunited with her estranged son.
Amber (Julianne Moore), a veteran in the business, quickly takes Dirk under her protective maternal wing by providing him with something he has
never had, the unconditional love of a mother. Amber's maternal displays of affection are incestuously infected at best, but they still manage to portray
a deep and much needed love between the two. Young Dirk is given every indulgence a 17 year old boy could dream of, including the invitation to
mindlessly couple with one of the bright young porn stars, Roller

Essay about Pornography's Effects on Relationships
Pornography's Effects on Relationships
When it comes to relationships there are many things that need to be present in order for it to work out. You must have support from both sides and
honesty is also a big factor. When pornography enters a relationship it can be destroyed and could possible ruin that relationship forever. This essay
will be able to inform you of all the ways that pornography can and does ruin relationships. Support for this argument will be drawn from the
following sources: Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy, Love, Sex, and Health, and The Question of Pornography.

When women find out that men went behind their backs and even lied to them this is when the relationship takes a turn for the worse. Women take
lying very seriously and when they find out they have been lied to, it causes a lot of disappointment. Most relationships end at this point because
honesty is no longer present in their relationship.
Pornography can take a toll on women's emotions as well as their self–esteem. When women first find out that their husbands have been using
pornography they begin to feel that is their fault. They start to put themselves down and think that they are "sexually undesirable, worthless, weak, and
stupid" (Bergner 194). For many women this could mean a big time emotional break down. Women begin to think that their husbands are using
pornography because they cannot satisfy them and make them happier than the other women that they are looking at. Bergner points out that "men
don't understand what they cause their partners to feel once they have found out about their 'second life.'" Women feel that they are constantly being
compared to porn stars and not looked at for whom they really are. This makes them think that whenever they do engage in sexual activities that their
husbands are not thinking about them, they are thinking about the women that they have been looking at. Bergner explains that "most relationships are
ended at this point because these women will never fell the same

Censorship of the Internet Essay
Should the Internet Be Censored?
When the internet was conceived in the last century (boy, that sure makes it seem a lot older than it is, doesn't it?) it began as a free and open exchange
of information. The original intent was to connect universities and military installations together to freely exchange data. The invention of the web
continued that intention. This is supported by the lack of security in TCP/IP and in the early web specifications.
I know it seems strange now, but there was a time, not too long ago, when there was no pornography on the internet. In fact, all of the hate,
pornographic and similar sites are actually rather new (less than half a dozen years in most cases). There was no need or tolerance for this kind of ...

I sometimes wonder how quickly the internet would gave grown without this kind of material?
Think about it for a moment. Pornographic theaters died because video became available (who wants to watch this kind of stuff in public anyway?).
Now, with the advent of the internet, you don't even need to be embarrassed at the video store – you can just call it up over your phone line! No one
will know!
The major problem is this material is available to anyone – even children. There are lame attempts to place restrictions (enter a credit card number, for
example) but they don't work very well and many sites simply do not care. Oh yes, they do pay lip service and pretend that they do not allow children
to get into their sites – but it's about as easy to get around as looking behind a curtain.
Which brings us to the theme of this article? Should this material be available? And if so, should children be allowed to view it?
To me the answer to the first question is obvious. Of course the material should be available. I do not believe in censorship at this level. I will concede
that some censorship is necessary – people do not have the right to yell "fire" in a crowded theater, for example.
But wait a minute, you say? All of this material needs to be removed from the net? It's the only moral and ethical thing to do!
I agree with you, partially. Pornography is one of the things that is damaging this country. It weakens the bonds between family members, especially

The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life by Erving Goffman
Dramaturgical Perspective
In his book, The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life, Goffman (1959) focuses on the self as a staged production in which people actively present
themselves to different audiences one encounters. To bolster his conceptualization, Goffman used an interesting metaphor of "all the world's a stage"
(1959, 254). This, he terms as a "dramaturgical approach" (Goffman 1959, 240) in which an actor puts on a show for others; drawing analogies between
human behaviors and the theater. Goffman (1959) likens the individual to an actor on stage performing for and with other individuals involved in the
situation. Three types of space exist for the actor to perform on, to enact the self, and to interact with others: the front stage, the backstage, the outer
region. Goffman (1959) utilizes specific dramaturgical terms such as performance, teams, front and back regions, sign–vehicles, and highlights the
process of dramatic realization. These terms will be discussed in the following sections.
Performance. The interactions are viewed as a performance, constantly being shaped by the environment and audience, with the objective of providing
others with impressions that are consonant with the desired goals of the actor. Specifically Goffman states as "all the activity of an individual which
occurs during a period marked by his continuous presence before a particular set of observers and which has some influence on the observers" (1959,
32). Goffman (1959) uses the

Genre, Plot, And Theme Of This Play
1)Discuss the genre, plot, and theme of this play.
The genre is a musical comedy. The rock music of the eighties moves the play through the story that is centered in the Bourbon Room bar in Los
Angeles. Most of the characters in the play used to be in a rock band, currently are in a rock band or are trying hard to get into a rock band. The
girls who wanted or currently want to make in movies are bar waitresses and strippers. Big business wants to close down the strip and develop a new
business district. The classic rock hits and the main love interest moves the story toward a happy and energetic ending.
2)Did you enjoy the production? Why or why not?
I enjoy comedies and I love many of the songs that were in the play so I could not help but laugh and sing along at times. The production was very
good overall. I was uncomfortable with the strippers. The very suggestive dances and constant presence of the outfits were not necessary for the
overall story. The females playing the strippers did a good job and did deliver in lines and lyrics. The actors did a very convincing job. The vocals
were strong and the live rock band gave the show a punch. The small stage and limited seating at the Virginia SamfordTheatre were strengths. The
actors were close and you could see every expression. The size of the theatre helps pull you into the play.

Structure in any form of narrative is vital, whether it be in films, books, theatre, etc. It is a frame for a story to work within. While there is a traditional
method and formula to structuring a film narrative, filmmakers all over the world have experimented with breaking the norm and trying new ways to
structure a film. It tested the viewer's notion of what structure is and how a narrative can be told. It was also new and something that audiences were not
used to. Even now, a film that moves too far away from the traditional three–act–structure, is highly experimental and usually only seen in independent

"Act I, the screenwriter sets up the story, establishes character, launches the dramatic premise (what the story is about), illustrates the situation (the
circumstances surrounding the action), and creates the relationships between the main character and the other characters who inhabit the landscape of
his or her world." (Field,
2005:21)
At the end of the first act there is a turning point, also known as the 'inciting incident', that signals the start of the second act which is what Field
(2005:24) calls "Confrontation". While act one and act three usually translates to about roughly a quarter of the story's length each, act two is usually
half of the entire script. "During this second act the main character encounters obstacle after obstacle that keeps him/her from achieving his/her
dramatic need, which is defined as what
the character wants to win, gain, get, or achieve during the course of the screenplay." (Field, 2005:25) "...resolution means solution." (Field, 2005:26)
In the third and final act, the resolution, the story and characters reach a climax. Here the character usually faces his fears, overcomes his biggest
obstacles and defeats the antagonist, though not always. There is a de–escalation in act three. In the book "Story" (McKee, 1997:105–106) Robert

involved in the industry are long term and long lasting, creating overall issues that affect women's economic and social status. But what are there

A content analysis of two other highly consumer–rated films revealed an emphasis on several themes including fate, destiny, love at first sight, and the
idea that people will only be happy when they find the one, perfect mate who was made for them.
For this research paper, I reviewed two mainstream romantic comedies. The first was Something's Gotta Give (2003) and the second was Playing For
Keeps (2012). In each of these movies, the main male and female characters strived throughout the movie to find their one and only true love. Overall,
the former is a much better movie than the latter.
Something's Gotta Give featured a nearly over–the–hill life–long bachelor who had habitually dated women younger than 30 years old. In fact, it is one

the stay, Harry has a heart attack and his girlfriend's mother, Erica, saves him by hastily performing CPR and directing her daughter to call an

Porn Stereotypes
Working within the porn industry can go both ways, there is a positive and a negative to all this. Not all women who work within the sex industry are
victims; some women actually enjoy it and do not see an issue in being exploited whatsoever. According to a study that was done, "Sixty–nine percent
of porn actresses ranked their enjoyment of sex as 10 out of 10... Porn actresses were also more likely to report higher self–esteem than average
women", including that the results of the research showed an insignificance against the stereotypes anti–porn feminists have argued about these women
being sexually abused as children, "The results of the research failed to support many common stereotypes. Most notably, the porn actresses were no
more likely to report having been sexually abused as children than national averages or than a sample of demographically matched women" (Pappas,
2013). The studies that have been done about the porn industry have mostly shown the negatives rather than focusing on what the people think and
feel about working in it. Stephanie Pappas also mentions how there is not enough research to conclude nor fully support the stereotypes or "issues"
that activists have argued about, "This lack of research is notable given the number of stereotypes about porn actresses... it's hard to know for sure
without more extensive studies, early explorations have found these stereotypes fail to hold up" (Pappas, 2013). In spite of this, for those who have or

The Importance Of Pornography
Being raised in a Cristian Mexican culture home, I was taught early in life to view adult content material such as pornography as taboo. My Father
was a strict strong minded man with high morals; raising four girls and one boy. My Mother on the other hand more on the passive side, yet she
shared the same views as my Father when it came to pornography. I can vividly recall one summer day, playing hide and seek with the neighborhood
children. It was a normal day, until a few of the children went missing, when we located them they were viewing a pornographic magazine, an older
child was exposing them too. At the tender age of seven–years–old, I could not connect the magazine material to anything I knew. The experience was

impact in our society. Nevertheless, American's should not have to worry about who or who does not feel insulted by what they do in the privacy

different than watching, reading or listening to religious material in one's home. It is a personal choice. Like with every other type of
controversial material common sense should be practice. If it is not a private home where adult content is being shared or discussed and there are

allowed in their own home not the Government. Jacobi makes a valid point when she says feminist are pro–censorship because they want the

The Pros And Cons Of Pornography And Prostitution
George Bernard Shaw once said "pornographic novelist is one who exploits the sexual instinct as a prostitute does. A legitimate sex novel elucidates it
or brings out its poetry, tragedy, or comedy." In other words, Shaw argues that pornography and prostitution is somewhat the same besides pornography
is considered legal while prostitution is illegal.
According to legal researchers, "the headlines are constantly filled with new stories of politicians quite literally caught with their pants down in
scandals with prostitutes." This often raises the question of why prostitution is not treated in the same way as pornography. Researchers asked, "why is
sex for money okay in one setting and not another"? The distinction between the two is straight forward. The finding of porn performances constitutes
acting subject to the artistic expression protections, which is the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. Although, the distinction is that
porn stars are paid to act, and prostitutes are paid for sex.
Researchers made it clear that "performers may engage in sex as part of their roles, but that does not count as sex for hire". It was also brought to the
attention of researchers "Sex during creating a movie or a photo is an expression protected under the First Amendment. Generally, the one paying for
the sex is also different than the one receiving the benefit of that act, further distancing it from a strictly sex–for–money arrangement". Some free of
speech parties argue that "even first–person movies should be afforded this protection, though no significant cases have gone to court".
Reporters state, "while recorded sexual performances have been relatively protected, live performances are much less so. Compared with sexually
explicit media, live sex shows have very little protection under the law, though the Supreme Court in Oregon did overturn two state laws concerning
sex shows on free speech and expression grounds in 2005".
The turning point in the porn and prostitution debate occurred in the 1980's in California. Prosecutors argued that "an adult film producer named
Harold Freeman was guilty of pimping because he had hired five women to perform sex acts for a movie called "Caught from Behind II."

body parts that some people would think of as explicit. The narrative Fun Home includes s a few images that some may believe to be inappropriate and
even pornographic. Since, this narrative contains these images, some jump to the conclusion that the book is pornography, which is not true. Per
Google, pornography is defined as "printed or visual material containing the explicit description or display of sexual organs or activity, intended to
stimulate erotic rather than aesthetic or emotional feelings." The images shown in Fun Home are used to describe how the main character figured out
her sexuality, which happens to be very important to the story line. If these images were intended for arousal, then those images would be considered
porn. I believe that the authors of graphic narratives depict sexuality with meaning behind it, which gives "emotional feelings," and is not what
pornography is intended to do. Graphic Narratives include visuals that others may believe are considered pornography. Google offered a basic
definition of what is truly pornography, but the author Michael Rae gives an in–depth description of it. Michael Rae has an article that covers six
different definitions of pornography and sums them up into his own, proper definition. He gives his two parts for his definition, but in this case the first

Essay Reefer Madness Summary
Reefer Madness
Eric Schlosser To start off, the main driven idea of this book is the black market, or what they refer to as the underground and "shadow economy".
The underground has its choices and consequences as well as any other type of economic system do. But, in this case the underground can be a
country's main economy for survival such as, "In Bolivia the underground economy is responsible for an estimated 65 percent of GDP. In Nigeria it
accounts for perhaps 76 percent." (7) This type of GDP from the underground is usually found in the developing worlds. That's not to say that we
don't have a dark side of our own in the mix. The US has been the largest competitor in the Black Market in many fields for example: Marijuana, ...

"...I met a commercial introduced himself as "Dave"...quite proud of his work and regretted being unable to discuss it with friends." (39) Whether it's a
hobby or for a living, the underground still has a staying with our mainstream economy because it's just as important. Without all those illegal
immigrants, especially Mexicans, who would have tended those acres of strawberries in California? With the migration of the illegals "California
strawberry production...output more than tripled; prices fell, and the Americans doubled their consumption of fresh strawberries." (81) Although, they
have taken the opportunity for someone else in America to get the job, but regular Americans get paid aminimum wage nowadays. Back then, the

It all started with a comic book. Reuben Sturman was the one who started the business of exploiting women to give men pleasure. He began his quest
at a large warehouse in Detroit, where his business would bloom not only nationwide but internationally as well. This might be a dirty subject to get
into but, Pornography is just as important as Marijuana and Underground labor because it too created much revue as "$15,000 to $20,000 a week to
dance at strip clubs, doing four twenty–minute shows each night." (181). It's staggering to see that a young businessman

Sex, Sexual, And Sexual Sexuality Essay
Secrets Desires
Our society has socially excepted explicit language as well as sexual undertones as a way of introducing sex and pornography to our young people
and mature adults alike. There are hidden secret sexual desires simply because we are taught that if our sexual thoughts or desires are different from
others we are strange. Women were taught that they are damaged if they are to engage in watchingpornography or engage in altered sexual desires that
are outside of the vanilla spectrum. According to Concepcion, C. M. (1999) " To deny any women any form of sexual expression, including the
enjoyment and production of pornography can stunt sexual development and thereby, stunt the development of our sexuality, forces women to question
our intuition and police our desires".
Men and Women are being sexually inhabitied by the expression of engaging in sexual content such as pornography by not being able to explore their
needs under those circumstances they aren't able to explore their needs, desires, and sexual needs. The issue might form when women began to think
of sexual freedom as a choice to please partners just to grab satisfaction of something missing from their lives, allowing them to long for a touch within
a conscious and unconscious state of mind. Some would argue that the behavior would be the result of a missing father or a mother who didn't respond
with proper maternal instinct a child might have needed. There are so many avenues that expand beyond

The Rituals of an Actor: Biography of David Edwards
David Edwards is a stage and film acting veteran from Las Cruces, New Mexico. He has performed in countless stage performances and several
onscreen acting jobs during the last four decades. Mr. Edwards employs both practical and magic rituals to the preparations for his stage performances,
and he keeps a good luck charm on his person. His rituals are less extreme than many other stage performers who are extremely observant of
superstitions and adamant about preshow rituals. Anthropologists would take note of the greater ritual associated with stage acting than with film
acting, as performers feel a lesser need for luck in the mistakes– forgiving world of film. This parallels the dichotomy between hitters and fielders in
baseball.

Edwards acknowledges that this taboo, along with several other behaviors such as whistling backstage and wishing fellow performers good luck, as
strictly off–limits for almost every stage actor he's met. These behaviors stem from the culture of theater more so than any actual patterns observed by
individual performers, but they still are taken very seriously to ward off bad luck or injuries during performances.
Edwards acknowledges that most stage actors have more rituals than he himself has, noting, "Actors in particular are pretty superstitious" but that
does not carry over as strongly into the behavior of film actors. He said that it isn't nearly as stressful to perform in front of a camera, because
"Onstage, there are no second takes." The fact that film acting is less risky– a blunder can be done over as many times as necessary– means many
performers feel less pressure to perfect a performance the first time around, therefore needing less luck and relying less on magic and ritual. As
noted in the 2011 edition of Appreciating Human Diversity, "Magic is used to establish control," (Conrad P Kottak p. 495). There is a wide
difference between the control a stage actor has when compared to a film actor. First of all, a stage actor is totally dependant upon other actors, while
also being depended upon, for things like correct lines and reaction to move the story along. If a

Why Do Pornographic Films Suck? Essay
Watching a porn film side–by–side with a Bresson film is an instructive exercise. In both, actors deliver their lines in a wooden way; in both,
characters do things that are regarded as morally suspect without remorse or elaborate justification; and both are more episodic than narrative.

"Why Do Porn Films Suck?"
From Hard Core Art to Pornography and Back
In this paper I inquire about the distinctions between the genres of hard core art cinema and pornography. Given that the definitions of both
pornography and hard core art cinema are rather contentious and the dividing line between these genres is quite blurry, this curious question is of
importance. In this paper I attempt to examine where and why this dividing line is usually drawn. In order to do this, I take as examples two
controversial films – Une Vraie Jeune Fille by Catherine Breillat (filmed in 1975 but never shown until 1999) and Pretty Baby by Louis Malle (filmed
in 1978) – and trace critics ' responses to them in order to compare different reviews and opinions, especially on the issue of sex scenes and nudity
presented in the films. I chose Une Vraie Jeune Fille because this film contains close ups of genitalis and scenes of unsimulated sex that were deemed
obscene at a time. By contrast, Pretty Baby has been deemed offensive and obscene not because of sex scenes but because it contains nude depictions
of a twelve–year–old actress. This paper is structured in such a way

Marketing Strategy Of Stealth Marketing
INTRODUCTION
Did you know that very day we are imprinted with marketing and we don't even realizing it! Marketers are eager to find new ways on how to get into
your subconscious to sell their product or deliver their message. This is what is called "Stealth Marketing". Stealth Marketing is any marketing strategy
that advertises to consumers without them knowing it. It is used in product placement, celebrity endorsements, and ad agents.
PRODUCT PLACEMNET Product placement is practice in which manufacturers of goods or providers of a service gain exposure by paying for
them to be featured in movies and TV programming. In the earlier days producers would approach companies to use their products in their films.
During production of E.T., Amblin Productions and Steven Spielberg approached Mars, Inc. about a possible tie–in between M&M's and the film. For
water reason, Mars said "No" to their proposition. By declining this offer, Mars' paved the way for Hershey's Reese's Pieces. Hershey agreed to do a
tie–in between the movie and the candy after the film was released. A deal was contracted wherein Hershey Foods agreed to promote E.T. with $1
million of advertising: in return, Hershey could use E.T. in its own ads. (Mikkelson, 2011). The payoff was huge! Reese's Pieces saw a reported 65%
jump in profits just two weeks after E.T. premiered.
Another example would be Risky Business, starring Tom Cruise. The Wayferer sunglasses that Tom Cruise modeled in the movie were pretty

One of cinema's most unexpected, artistically fertile iterations in the 21st century is the viral video, a Warholian flash of lightning: brief, often

cannibalistic climax could evolve from a Mondo Pygmalion setup, in which cockney Crocker can't be tamed by cotillion. The dinner scene in Texas

In other cases, individuals chose to use their legal names, feeling that it was impossible to maintain impermeable privacy. Some have even adopted
their porn names for such reasons as identification among fans and supporters or as a method of disowning shame associated with their identity as
queer, a porn performer, or otherwise (e.g. Habib, C., pg. 103–106; Halili Orbacedo, M., pg. 246–249; Lowrance, C., pg. 75–76). These individuals,
who chose to use their legal names, largely acknowledged that their ability to do so was a privilege, that not many in the industry are afforded. As a

Pornography
"Pornography comes from the Greek root porne (harlot, prostitute, or female captive) and graphos (writing about or description of)" (Buchwald 35).
Already the word pornography has a negative connotation towards women condemning women of porn to a submissive or exploited role. The
pornography industry is predominantly a male owned and run business, hence the male perspectives portrayed versus the female perspectives portrayed
in pornography. There is a lack of women, in the controlling ranks of the porn industry, calling theshots; this could be one possible contributor to the
majority of pornography having content that belittles women in subtle even in blatantly purposeful ways apparent to any audience member. "In short, ...

different types of erotic stories. However, some of the stories involved women being kidnapped, abused physically and mentally, restrained, raped,
and even forced to be inseminated. There is a section in the erotic stories called "NonConsent/Reluctance", which contains hundreds of stories
geared towards exciting someone's fantasy of being in control over women. It is also possible that there are some women who are excited or
turned on by thinking about or reading about being taken control of considering some of the stories were written by women. In one particular story
that stands out, a woman was kidnapped, stripped, handcuffed, blindfolded, gagged and left there. She woke up, urinated on herself, cried,
defecated on herself then was brought to clean up by the stranger who kidnapped her. She was then brought to a chair where she was held down in a
position with her legs open where the man proceeded to have sex with her for the purpose of bearing his child. He called her things like "sow" to
belittle her on top of her already miserable situation. The story is narrated from the woman's point of view so the reader can see her thoughts about
how much she hates the situation and wants to escape, but as the story goes she puts up little to no fight. "But blatant or subtle, there

these images are considered normal. Many people argue that watching porn can hurt and destroy relationships. According to many doctors and

male porn the most. Although this debate is not a new subject, it is far from resolved. The majority of women are unhappy with the fact that their

Pros And Cons Of Pornography
In class we discussed pornography and how it can either be seen as moral or immoral. In the book Exploring Ethics by Steven M. Cahn, Helen E.
Longino wrote chapter thirty–eight titled Pornography, Oppression, and Freedom. Longino believes that pornography is immoral and that it causes
more harm than good in society. She believes that pornography singles out woman and is defamatory, violent, and should be regulated. My argument is
against Longino, if porn is restricted several movies would be deemed immoral because of nudity. The connection betweenviolence against women
and pornography would not change or even increase if restrictions apply. No one should be forced into pornography, but the option should be
available without regulation. Pornography can be considered verbal or pictorial. For pictorial pornography the person can watch in on their laptop,
cellphone, or even television. For verbal pornography they can read it in a book, on a website, call a hotline or even listen to a podcast. There is
homosexual, heterosexual, transgendered porn and much more available on the web. There are major companies that produce videos as well as
homemade videos for personal or public use. Longino believes that pornography is, "implicated in the committing of crimes of violence against
women". There are several varieties of pornography that seem immoral because of the societal pressures put on people. Personally, I would never

A Brief Overview of Porn and the 20th Century
Porn and technology:
Pornography has, more than any other type of media, been on the bleeding edge of technology. Pushing new mediums to their limit, usually in the last
way they were ever intended to be used (Gross, 2010). We start off the 20th Century with the Half–tone printing process being only two decades old.
This was the first process that allowed images to be inexpensively reproduced. Magazines were the leading pornographic medium, and they were
only available by mail. Then, with the advent of film, the Stag films were first produced in Germany and Latin America. With the arrival of do it

Accepting Porn: Since the accidental discovery of the first pornography at Pompii in 1592 porn has had a bad reputation. It is a Victorian word first
defined by Webster as "Licentious painting or literature". From its very beginning pornography was outlawed and banned from the public. In the
beginning of the 20th century one could be jailed for even viewing a stag film. This may of hurt the quality of porn but it the principal of supply and
demand stayed intact, and there was always an overwhelming demand. The way that demand has been supplied has changed drastically throughout
the 20th century. Porn went from socially unacceptable to a social phenomenon. Public opinion, slowly, overturned government rule. The main reason
porn became more acceptable was because masturbation became more socially acceptable (Paul, 2005). In the early 1900's we see masturbation as
an act someone took shame in, because it meant that person didn't have anyone to have sex with. In modern times masturbation is said to be healthy
by health care professionals and although it is not spoken of often, it is accepted. When porn was first discovered by the Victorians within the Roman
ruins of Pompii there was a major fear that the lower educated, working class would do nothing all day but sit at home and

Misconceptions Of Porn, Pornography, Crime, And Crimes And...
One of the biggest misconceptions of porn is the way that a penis is portrayed to the viewers. In porn, the penis is generally viewed to be massive
in size and or girth, which is a problem being that the average penis size is 3.5 inches flaccid and 5.1 inches when erect (MacGill, 2016). But in
porn the penises tend to be at least 8 inches in length or more which is not a fair portrayal of what sex is like and in many cases, could even be
uncomfortable for the partner/s that the person is going to have sex with. Which is not a fair comparison to either the viewer of the pornography or his
partner due to them felling inferior to the porn star or having feelings of not being as good at sex cause of the size of his penis.
Another significant aspect of pornography is the woman being surprised by the size of the man's penis. In most straight porn videos whenever the
man shows his penis the woman is always surprised by how big the man's penis is at times comparing it to her forearm or other body parts. As
Lehmiller says "However most women say that a larger penis does not increase their ability to reach orgasm (Costa, Miller & Brody 2012). There
are certainly some women for whom a bigger member is preferred and may bring them more erotic pleasure, but this does not appear to be the case
for most women." (Lehmiller 373). In this quote, one can see that in fact not all women want a bigger penis because for some women it may hurt to
even attempt to have sex with such a large penis.

The Influence Of Pornography
Simon Lajeunusse, a Canadian scholar who was wishing to research the impact pornography has on young men, was unsuccessful due to being unable
to find a control group of males who have not already viewed pornography (Weiss par. 1). Although the typical pornographic videos streamed via the
Internet are what most people today believe to be the defining form of pornography, it is also displayed in many other mediums and has been for
thousands of years. Most people see the word 'pornography' and immediately assume the worst, but they do not know the true definition or the history
of the 11–lettered word. From its early forms of paintings on ancient Roman walls, and risquГ© novels during the Renaissance, to the creation of
photography in the 1800s, and the booming of videos on the Internet in the 1990s, pornography has been through it all. Pornography is one of the
most controversial topics of all time, and because of its vast meanings and forms, there are several differing views. The saying, "Beauty is in the
eyes of the beholder," is very relevant when it comes to the topic of pornography. One person's view of pornography could be another's view of
beautiful art; This is when the controversy takes place. Some people believe pornography is harmful to women because of the degrading and violent
acts toward them in most pornographic material; Others agree but believe there are other forms of pornography, erotic material, which could benefit a

of the relationship is the factor reveal the connection between the male's rate and intensity of porn consumption with the relationship quality and sexual
satisfaction in the relationship. The method of this study is an online survey of 308 participants, that was the final amount after the original sample of
330 that was reduced because of participants' failure to meet the validity check. The final sample consisted of female college students in the age range
of 18 to 29 years. Stewart and Szymanski suggest that this is the ideal population for the study because this is when people are exploring their
sexuality and have more access to doing so in the college environment due to the absence of parental restrictions. However, the survey itself can
create a response bias because there are students who are only doing this for a school credit or the chance to win a $100 raffle prize. Stewart

Mens Health Case Study Essay
The case study I have chosen to analyse is the Men's Health Case Study. The dilemma being faced by Mr Kerton and the Men's Health production team
is one of ensuring the success of the magazine in a relatively young, dynamic and exciting environment in which there are no barriers to entry and new
competitors are able to enter. In this particular instance Mr. Kerton is somewhat concerned about the entry ofMaxim magazine and the possible entry of
Esquire magazine into the men's lifestyle magazine market.
Situational analysis
Men's health is international magazine started in America in 1988. Riding on the success of the magazine in America the magazine moved into the
British, Australian, Latin American, German and Russian magazine... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This left the scene ripe for a male magazine that was not controversial, and full of nudity, sex and or violence and that catered to men on a basis not
entirely comprised of nudity and sex.
In addition to this and resulting from the opening up of the country to international trends and markets was the emergence of a more lifestyle oriented
health conscious type of man. The type of man its was hoped by the Men's Health team that would appreciate and buy into the Men's Health concept.
The decline of the girlie magazine market also resulted in advertising funding with no advertising space, providing yet another positive aspect for the
Men's Health promoters to focus on.
Consequently, the mid 1990s reflected a point when the men's health and lifestyle market was untapped and also underdeveloped. However, the Men's
Health publishers were not sure of the way forward and the best method to use that would ensure the sustainable capture of the market. In addition, the
size, spending power and demographics of the men's, health and lifestyle magazine market were a virtual unknown, making the launch particularly
sensitive and critical. In light of this and in order to test the market the first four issues of Men's Health were published on a bi–monthly basis. The
launch of the publication exceeded all expectations on the part of the publishers and sold approximately 350 000

Dogma Rules Add “Character” To Italian For Beginners

  • 1. Dogma Rules Add “Character” to Italian for Beginners Dogma Rules Add "Character" to Italian for Beginners Art films are different from mainstream films in many aspects including acting, plot, and setting. Art filmmakers use different techniques to distinguish their films from mainstream films. The movement away from mainstream filmmaking occurred through the creation of the Dogma Manifesto. Dogma 95 was a set of rules for film production that forced filmmakers to innovate through new methods of filmmaking. One such film created according to the rules of Dogma 95 is Italian for Beginners. Although Italian for Beginners does not follow all of the aesthetic rules of Dogma film production, the characters and their stories allow the viewer to engage with the film on both a formal and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He conveys these through simple responses, for example, when he shies away from women and the way he carries himself. These little reactions give us a deeper look into the feelings of the character. This looseness is part of Dogma films and the "new attitude toward filming... they shoot not only many takes of the same scene but also improvised and alternative takes" (Schepelern 87). Therefore, the actor cannot base his or her character on the events that will occur. The actor must establish a character and try to evoke emotions. This results in characters that are not typical and predictable. As a Dogma film, Italian for Beginners, was distinct from acting in other films and the predictability of characters in those films. This film was original because the actors were allowed to innovate. The Dogma movement gave actors the freedom and environment they needed to evoke a response from the audience. Mainstream films are also starting to focus more on characters and narrative than in the past (Schepelern 98). Perhaps, in the future other aspects of Dogma 95 will be used more widely. If wide use of Dogma techniques occurs, film producers will look for other ways to adapt filmmaking. Filmmaking has gone through many changes over the years, such as the New Wave movements, Dogma and_________. Writers and producers have looked for ways to make their films standout and they will most likely continue to be inventive in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Comparing Cosmogirl and Cosmopolitan Essay Comparing Cosmogirl and Cosmopolitan A comparison between "Cosmogirl" and "Cosmopolitan". Two successful magazines. One woman's' and one teenage. Would you read the same magazines as your daughter? Would you expect the contents in a magazine aimed at women to be diversely different from a magazine aimed at teenagers? I think that because teenagers are at very different stages of their lives to adults and therefore have different concerns, issues and perspectives on life, they should have separate influences such as magazines. Magazines portray a fantasy lifestyle for many people and so they are attracted to, and influenced by, them. I am going to investigate the differences and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The "Cosmo" part of the title is in the same font as "Cosmopolitan". This links it to the successful, well–loved, parent magazine. This automatically gives it credibility and attracts younger audiences who want to be like the women in "Cosmopolitan" when they grow up. The "girl" part in the title obviously suggests the target audience and the fact that it differs from "Cosmopolitan". It could also appeal to a younger audience because "Cosmopolitan" is abbreviated to "Cosmo" for this title and abbreviating words is a trend amongst young people. Secondly I am going to look at the next thing you would see after the title, the models. Both models on "Cosmopolitan" and "Cosmogirl" are female because the audience is female and want a magazine that can tell them how to look and act and the models are examples. They are around the expected age of the readers and are maybe what the magazines editors' picture as their ideal reader. They reflect what the magazine stands for and the position of that age group at the time. For example, a magazine aimed at eleven to twelve year olds would have a younger model on the cover and it would be girlier than a magazine aimed at teenagers aged fifteen to seventeen. In the case of my magazines the cover girls are very attractive but in different ways. The model for "Cosmopolitan" is aged around twenty whereas the model for

  • 4. The African-American Image in Films The African–American Image in Films Films serve many functions like education, entertainment, handbooks of social behavior, and a transmitter of cultural and social values. The most effective way in which stereotypes are perpetuated in America is through the mediums of film and television. American films mostly played an influential part in fixing images of ethnic groups in the minds of audience. The negative representation of films or movies sometimes reinforces false assumptions (as poor, dangerous and dumb) about minority groups, for example African–American. The way African–Americans were represented in past films can be proved misrepresentation of minority group by an average viewer. The lack of control of films over the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the1998 film 'Deep Impact,' it's a scene that never would have been imagined; a well–dressed attractive woman stands before a group of reporters, and announces, "Ladies and Gentlemen, the President of the United States". At this point, a middle–aged African–American man walked out, the African–American man is Morgan Freeman. In this film, Freeman's portrayal of the most powerful man in the world seemed more presidential. There was a time when African–Americans were considered as weak and dumb. But those times have changed, and it is reflected on the big screen. In fact, there have been several films over the past ten years that African–Americans have shown as presidents, or presidential candidates For the longest time, one of the biggest taboos in film has been the subject of interracial relationships. The best example of this taboo would have to be two earlier versions of William Shakespeare's, 'Othello' (1952, 1965) a story that deals with the subject of interracial romance. In both cases, white actors in black face were cast to play the famous Moor of Venice (1952, 1965). But, nowadays story has changed, a blackactor playing a black character and the climate of films has also changed, something as little as a kiss between a black man and a white woman on screen. The African–American image in the past that had been perpetuated by Yaphet Frederick Kotto as criminal has changed to loving role of African–American. In 1999's 'The ... • 5. A Bright Room Called Day by Tony Kushner I saw the play "A Bright Room Called Day" by Tony Kushner on the 1st of November. I can say for sure that plays are always different and this play was completely different from the one we watched a couple weeks ago– "Rent". This play is serious in its content , it is a specific historical play, which took place in Germany, more exactly Berlin, in the 1930s. The story is about five good friends during the time of the rise ofAdolf Hitler and the Nazi party, the time before World War II. The story surrounded the maincharacter– Agnes, who just loves her home and lives on her own and she thinks that everything will be alright as long as she stays away from negative influences. Representational and presentational acting can be seen in this play and helps us understand the character more. The characters' acting I want to focus on is Vealtinc Husz, the lover of Agnes played by Chase Byrd. He is a one–eyed Hungarian director of movies, who moved to Berlin to became a part of the communist revolution party and ended up meeting the love of his life, Agnes. The main idea of his work, what he was interested in, was to promote propaganda art and also to develop some promotional ideas and changes in the communist community. Husz's problem (and maybe not the best side of his character)is that he talks more rather taking action. One type of acting shown by the character of Husz is representational. This type of acting is playing from the inside. Husz is a person who doesn't know a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Pros And Cons Of Sex Trafficking In 2000, the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, or TVPA, was passed to identify "severe forms" of human trafficking, create harsh criminal penalties for offenders and provide support for victims. The TVPA defines sex trafficking as a situation in which a "commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud, or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform such act has not attained 18 years of age ("How Porn Fuels Sex Trafficking")." The inclusion of the word "coercion" means that a commercial sex act can be classified as sex trafficking as long as a victim is coerced or intimidated. The organization Fight the New Drug identifies that there are often instances in the porn industry where the actor or actress is threatened with lawsuits or charges ("How Porn Fuels Sex Trafficking"). Human–trafficking isn't the only illegal industry fueled by sexual violence and exploitation. The wide–spread availability of cameras in devices such as portable cameras and cell phones has made it easier to take secret recordings of another's intimate body parts and other sexually explicit material without the individuals consent or knowledge. Growing internet access has facilitated the nonconsensual distribution of those images but the criminal laws in the United States have not stayed up to date with these developments. Because of this, victims of revenge porn and nonconsensual pornography do not have adequate means to seek justice. In a study conducted by Cynthia Najdowski at the University ... • 7. The Conceptual Schema Of Women Women are seen powerless in many instances and Marilyn Frye details the accounts where women are viewed as second to men in "To see and Be Seen." Frye uses a metaphysics approach to better understand how people come to power. She gives a metaphysical understanding of how the world has been determined by people of power, which throughout history has been men. Men have been in authority throughout history and have come up with society's conceptual schema. Frye alludes to people in power don't want to see people who are submissive. Men fit into the conceptual schema, women are excluded but are allowed in the schema in certain ways and lesbians are not included. Lesbians are seen as unnatural and are not recognized in the schema. Their perspective on society is not taken into account, whereas women are recognized but their own perspective on society is completely erased. Men in charge do not identify women or lesbian's experiences and view women as a mystery. The conceptual schema lead women to view society as men do, but lesbians do not view the world through men's perspective. Suppressing a groups perspective excluded them from reality. Men are dominant and women are dominated. Frye mentions Sarah Hoagland's paper saying, "In the conceptual schemes of phallocracies... there is no such thing as a lesbian. This puts a lesbian in the interesting and peculiar position of being something that does not exist, and this position is a singular vantage point with respect to the ... It 'd been a rocky road for him to reach that place, and the character that he played was one born from necessity. Trent 's father was a lifelong biker, and the president of a prominent outlaw MC in California. The man sold drugs, pimped out girls and did a little bit of everything and he 'd been a convict for much of his son 's early years. As a result, Trent was forced to grow up in group homes, and abuse from his caretakers and older children hardened the boy, by the time his dad got out, he was a teenager and the two reconnected with Trent frequently getting into violent... There were two brothers in the group, both were Mexican–Americans and they 'd lived their entire lives in the L.A area just as Trent had. They were the drummer and one of the guitarists respectively. The white guy was named Jackson and he was a longtime friend of Trent 's and another one of the guitarists, he was an especially liberal minded giant of a guy that stood about 6 '8" and was covered head to toe in tattoos. Of everyone in the group, he was the most hardcore against any sort of racism and before blowing big, his claim to fame was being televised nationally at a riot, where he punched a Nazi sympathizer in the face quite hard. He drank like a fish, but was otherwise a sweetheart with a new family of his own, and Trent was proud to be godfather to his twins. Their bassist was Trent 's cousin Reggie who had come from a family of musicians. In addition they had two more members, one was an Asian–American young man who everyone called kid and the other was a black woman who was petite but probably the most volatile in temperament which was saying something. They were there to add texture to the sound and both handled similar duties of sampling, keyboards, percussion and turntables. • 9. Boogie Nights Essay Boogie Nights Boogie Nights is a film that aptly embodies the extravagant decadence of morals during the disco era, while also creating empathy for the debauched innocents who find themselves caught up in a lifestyle of hard–core sex, drugs and rock and roll. Sadly, while attempting to replace the loving family relationships they are lacking and in their search for self worth, these characters pay the highest price for fame. The film deftly takes the viewer to the seedy underside of the pornography business. But, like many of the young people who find themselves entangled in it, it is first introduced as a life of each and luxury with many good times and no consequences. The film portrays the life of a unique young man who gives himself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Boogie Nights is wonderfully written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, and succeeds in introducing in its viewer to a new perspective on a world often viewed socially with scorn. After subtly choreographing the introduction of the relationships between characters, the film then highlights a slice of each individual's life, giving the viewer a further insight into their motivations and/or regrets. Each character is searching for something that is missing in their lives, and the pornography business seems to provide them with what they are lacking. This is evidenced when Dirk's need for a loving mother figure is fulfilled by Amber, who desperately wants to be reunited with her estranged son. Amber (Julianne Moore), a veteran in the business, quickly takes Dirk under her protective maternal wing by providing him with something he has never had, the unconditional love of a mother. Amber's maternal displays of affection are incestuously infected at best, but they still manage to portray a deep and much needed love between the two. Young Dirk is given every indulgence a 17 year old boy could dream of, including the invitation to mindlessly couple with one of the bright young porn stars, Roller ... Essay about Pornography's Effects on Relationships Pornography's Effects on Relationships When it comes to relationships there are many things that need to be present in order for it to work out. You must have support from both sides and honesty is also a big factor. When pornography enters a relationship it can be destroyed and could possible ruin that relationship forever. This essay will be able to inform you of all the ways that pornography can and does ruin relationships. Support for this argument will be drawn from the following sources: Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy, Love, Sex, and Health, and The Question of Pornography. When women find out that men went behind their backs and even lied to them this is when the relationship takes a turn for the worse. Women take lying very seriously and when they find out they have been lied to, it causes a lot of disappointment. Most relationships end at this point because honesty is no longer present in their relationship. Pornography can take a toll on women's emotions as well as their self–esteem. When women first find out that their husbands have been using pornography they begin to feel that is their fault. They start to put themselves down and think that they are "sexually undesirable, worthless, weak, and stupid" (Bergner 194). For many women this could mean a big time emotional break down. Women begin to think that their husbands are using pornography because they cannot satisfy them and make them happier than the other women that they are looking at. Bergner points out that "men don't understand what they cause their partners to feel once they have found out about their 'second life.'" Women feel that they are constantly being compared to porn stars and not looked at for whom they really are. This makes them think that whenever they do engage in sexual activities that their husbands are not thinking about them, they are thinking about the women that they have been looking at. • 11. Censorship of the Internet Essay Should the Internet Be Censored? When the internet was conceived in the last century (boy, that sure makes it seem a lot older than it is, doesn't it?) it began as a free and open exchange of information. The original intent was to connect universities and military installations together to freely exchange data. The invention of the web continued that intention. This is supported by the lack of security in TCP/IP and in the early web specifications. I know it seems strange now, but there was a time, not too long ago, when there was no pornography on the internet. In fact, all of the hate, pornographic and similar sites are actually rather new (less than half a dozen years in most cases). There was no need or tolerance for this kind of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No one will know! The major problem is this material is available to anyone – even children. There are lame attempts to place restrictions (enter a credit card number, for example) but they don't work very well and many sites simply do not care. Oh yes, they do pay lip service and pretend that they do not allow children to get into their sites – but it's about as easy to get around as looking behind a curtain. Which brings us to the theme of this article? Should this material be available? And if so, should children be allowed to view it? To me the answer to the first question is obvious. Of course the material should be available. I do not believe in censorship at this level. I will concede that some censorship is necessary – people do not have the right to yell "fire" in a crowded theater, for example. But wait a minute, you say? All of this material needs to be removed from the net? It's the only moral and ethical thing to do! I agree with you, partially. Pornography is one of the things that is damaging this country. • 13. The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life by Erving Goffman Dramaturgical Perspective In his book, The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life, Goffman (1959) focuses on the self as a staged production in which people actively present themselves to different audiences one encounters. To bolster his conceptualization, Goffman used an interesting metaphor of "all the world's a stage" (1959, 254). This, he terms as a "dramaturgical approach" (Goffman 1959, 240) in which an actor puts on a show for others; drawing analogies between human behaviors and the theater. Goffman (1959) likens the individual to an actor on stage performing for and with other individuals involved in the situation. Three types of space exist for the actor to perform on, to enact the self, and to interact with others: the front stage, the backstage, the outer region. Goffman (1959) utilizes specific dramaturgical terms such as performance, teams, front and back regions, sign–vehicles, and highlights the process of dramatic realization. These terms will be discussed in the following sections. Performance. The interactions are viewed as a performance, constantly being shaped by the environment and audience, with the objective of providing others with impressions that are consonant with the desired goals of the actor. Specifically Goffman states as "all the activity of an individual which occurs during a period marked by his continuous presence before a particular set of observers and which has some influence on the observers" (1959, 32). The rock music of the eighties moves the play through the story that is centered in the Bourbon Room bar in Los Angeles. Most of the characters in the play used to be in a rock band, currently are in a rock band or are trying hard to get into a rock band. The girls who wanted or currently want to make in movies are bar waitresses and strippers. Big business wants to close down the strip and develop a new business district. The classic rock hits and the main love interest moves the story toward a happy and energetic ending. 2)Did you enjoy the production? Why or why not? I enjoy comedies and I love many of the songs that were in the play so I could not help but laugh and sing along at times. The production was very good overall. I was uncomfortable with the strippers. The very suggestive dances and constant presence of the outfits were not necessary for the overall story. The females playing the strippers did a good job and did deliver in lines and lyrics. The actors did a very convincing job. The vocals were strong and the live rock band gave the show a punch. The small stage and limited seating at the Virginia SamfordTheatre were strengths. The actors were close and you could see every expression. The size of the theatre helps pull you into the play. 3)Which actors did a convincing job? Describe their technique. I was very impressed with the quality of Birmingham talent. Many of the main ... While there is a traditional method and formula to structuring a film narrative, filmmakers all over the world have experimented with breaking the norm and trying new ways to structure a film. It tested the viewer's notion of what structure is and how a narrative can be told. It was also new and something that audiences were not used to. Even now, a film that moves too far away from the traditional three–act–structure, is highly experimental and usually only seen in independent or student films. • 20. The Pros And Cons Of Pornography And Prostitution George Bernard Shaw once said "pornographic novelist is one who exploits the sexual instinct as a prostitute does. A legitimate sex novel elucidates it or brings out its poetry, tragedy, or comedy." In other words, Shaw argues that pornography and prostitution is somewhat the same besides pornography is considered legal while prostitution is illegal. According to legal researchers, "the headlines are constantly filled with new stories of politicians quite literally caught with their pants down in scandals with prostitutes." This often raises the question of why prostitution is not treated in the same way as pornography. Researchers asked, "why is sex for money okay in one setting and not another"? The distinction between the two is straight forward. The finding of porn performances constitutes acting subject to the artistic expression protections, which is the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. Although, the distinction is that porn stars are paid to act, and prostitutes are paid for sex. Researchers made it clear that "performers may engage in sex as part of their roles, but that does not count as sex for hire". It was also brought to the attention of researchers "Sex during creating a movie or a photo is an expression protected under the First Amendment. Generally, the one paying for the sex is also different than the one receiving the benefit of that act, further distancing it from a strictly sex–for–money arrangement". Some free of speech parties argue that "even first–person movies should be afforded this protection, though no significant cases have gone to court". Reporters state, "while recorded sexual performances have been relatively protected, live performances are much less so. Compared with sexually explicit media, live sex shows have very little protection under the law, though the Supreme Court in Oregon did overturn two state laws concerning sex shows on free speech and expression grounds in 2005". The turning point in the porn and prostitution debate occurred in the 1980's in California. Prosecutors argued that "an adult film producer named Harold Freeman was guilty of pimping because he had hired five women to perform sex acts for a movie called "Caught from Behind II." ... Since, this narrative contains these images, some jump to the conclusion that the book is pornography, which is not true. Per Google, pornography is defined as "printed or visual material containing the explicit description or display of sexual organs or activity, intended to stimulate erotic rather than aesthetic or emotional feelings." The images shown in Fun Home are used to describe how the main character figured out her sexuality, which happens to be very important to the story line. If these images were intended for arousal, then those images would be considered porn. I believe that the authors of graphic narratives depict sexuality with meaning behind it, which gives "emotional feelings," and is not what pornography is intended to do. Women were taught that they are damaged if they are to engage in watchingpornography or engage in altered sexual desires that are outside of the vanilla spectrum. According to Concepcion, C. M. He has performed in countless stage performances and several onscreen acting jobs during the last four decades. Mr. Edwards employs both practical and magic rituals to the preparations for his stage performances, and he keeps a good luck charm on his person. His rituals are less extreme than many other stage performers who are extremely observant of superstitions and adamant about preshow rituals. Edwards acknowledges that this taboo, along with several other behaviors such as whistling backstage and wishing fellow performers good luck, as strictly off–limits for almost every stage actor he's met. These behaviors stem from the culture of theater more so than any actual patterns observed by individual performers, but they still are taken very seriously to ward off bad luck or injuries during performances. Edwards acknowledges that most stage actors have more rituals than he himself has, noting, "Actors in particular are pretty superstitious" but that does not carry over as strongly into the behavior of film actors. He said that it isn't nearly as stressful to perform in front of a camera, because "Onstage, there are no second takes." The fact that film acting is less risky– a blunder can be done over as many times as necessary– means many performers feel less pressure to perfect a performance the first time around, therefore needing less luck and relying less on magic and ritual. As noted in the 2011 edition of Appreciating Human Diversity, "Magic is used to establish control," (Conrad P Kottak p. 495). From Hard Core Art to Pornography and Back In this paper I inquire about the distinctions between the genres of hard core art cinema and pornography. Given that the definitions of both pornography and hard core art cinema are rather contentious and the dividing line between these genres is quite blurry, this curious question is of importance. In this paper I attempt to examine where and why this dividing line is usually drawn. In order to do this, I take as examples two controversial films – Une Vraie Jeune Fille by Catherine Breillat (filmed in 1975 but never shown until 1999) and Pretty Baby by Louis Malle (filmed in 1978) – and trace critics ' responses to them in order to compare different reviews and opinions, especially on the issue of sex scenes and nudity presented in the films. I chose Une Vraie Jeune Fille because this film contains close ups of genitalis and scenes of unsimulated sex that were deemed obscene at a time. By contrast, Pretty Baby has been deemed offensive and obscene not because of sex scenes but because it contains nude depictions of a twelve–year–old actress. By declining this offer, Mars' paved the way for Hershey's Reese's Pieces. Hershey agreed to do a tie–in between the movie and the candy after the film was released. A deal was contracted wherein Hershey Foods agreed to promote E.T. with $1 million of advertising: in return, Hershey could use E.T. in its own ads. (Mikkelson, 2011). The payoff was huge! Reese's Pieces saw a reported 65% jump in profits just two weeks after E.T. premiered. Another example would be Risky Business, starring Tom Cruise. Chris Crocker One of cinema's most unexpected, artistically fertile iterations in the 21st century is the viral video, a Warholian flash of lightning: brief, often concept–less, zigzagging across the globe on bright computer/phone screens, and then, just as quickly, vanishing from relevance. This new medium's Meliesian pioneer is a mercurial figure whose fifteen minutes of fame has miraculously protracted into a decade's–worth of cultish, vaudevillian mini–movies; their deranged comedy, hot–topic commentary, and punning, shade–infused manifestoes of give–no–fucks self–reliance are devotedly watched and shared by a small legion of loyal fans. The entire conceit misunderstands Crocker: where is the trashy derangement, the Redneck Sadean Inferno, the gooble–gobble cast of hung carnies? Imagine what Crocker could have done with the wine–glass scenario if he'd been told, "Do what you do best." A glass of red wine is an anachronism in Crocker's hand: he should be holding an authentically bloody Bloody Mary, garnished with a severed cock instead of a celery stalk. A cannibalistic climax could evolve from a Mondo Pygmalion setup, in which cockney Crocker can't be tamed by cotillion. The dinner scene in Texas Chainsaw Massacre is recreated with Crocker dissociating from one backwoods eccentric to another: call his alters the Humps (associatively complete with a hunchback who sodomizes himself with mini–gargoyles), and call the film ... Their work is a unique collection of personal essays written by more than fifty current and former adult professionals, including performers, directors, website founders, and CEOs. Raw, honest, and occasionally hilarious, the book provides critical insight into the difficulties of maintaining privacy, facing stigma, and finding support. Some have even adopted their porn names for such reasons as identification among fans and supporters or as a method of disowning shame associated with their identity as queer, a porn performer, or otherwise (e.g. Habib, C., pg. 103–106; Halili Orbacedo, M., pg. 246–249; Lowrance, C., pg. 75–76). • 32. Pornography Essay Pornography "Pornography comes from the Greek root porne (harlot, prostitute, or female captive) and graphos (writing about or description of)" (Buchwald 35). Already the word pornography has a negative connotation towards women condemning women of porn to a submissive or exploited role. The pornography industry is predominantly a male owned and run business, hence the male perspectives portrayed versus the female perspectives portrayed in pornography. There is a lack of women, in the controlling ranks of the porn industry, calling theshots; this could be one possible contributor to the majority of pornography having content that belittles women in subtle even in blatantly purposeful ways apparent to any audience member. There is a section in the erotic stories called "NonConsent/Reluctance", which contains hundreds of stories geared towards exciting someone's fantasy of being in control over women. It is also possible that there are some women who are excited or turned on by thinking about or reading about being taken control of considering some of the stories were written by women. In one particular story that stands out, a woman was kidnapped, stripped, handcuffed, blindfolded, gagged and left there. She woke up, urinated on herself, cried, defecated on herself then was brought to clean up by the stranger who kidnapped her. She was then brought to a chair where she was held down in a position with her legs open where the man proceeded to have sex with her for the purpose of bearing his child. He called her things like "sow" to belittle her on top of her already miserable situation. The story is narrated from the woman's point of view so the reader can see her thoughts about how much she hates the situation and wants to escape, but as the story goes she puts up little to no fight. Many people argue that watching porn can hurt and destroy relationships. According to many doctors and researchers, pornography can be harmful for one's body and their relationships. Studies and surveys show that women are the ones who are affected by male porn the most. Although this debate is not a new subject, it is far from resolved. The majority of women are unhappy with the fact that their partners view pornography because they believe that porn reduces the relationship commitment. On the other hand, some argue that watching porn can actually help to improve sexual needs in relationships. • 38. Pros And Cons Of Pornography In class we discussed pornography and how it can either be seen as moral or immoral. In the book Exploring Ethics by Steven M. Cahn, Helen E. Longino wrote chapter thirty–eight titled Pornography, Oppression, and Freedom. Longino believes that pornography is immoral and that it causes more harm than good in society. She believes that pornography singles out woman and is defamatory, violent, and should be regulated. My argument is against Longino, if porn is restricted several movies would be deemed immoral because of nudity. The connection betweenviolence against women and pornography would not change or even increase if restrictions apply. No one should be forced into pornography, but the option should be available without regulation. Pornography can be considered verbal or pictorial. For pictorial pornography the person can watch in on their laptop, cellphone, or even television. For verbal pornography they can read it in a book, on a website, call a hotline or even listen to a podcast. There is homosexual, heterosexual, transgendered porn and much more available on the web. There are major companies that produce videos as well as homemade videos for personal or public use. Longino believes that pornography is, "implicated in the committing of crimes of violence against women". There are several varieties of pornography that seem immoral because of the societal pressures put on people. Personally, I would never watch or get any satisfaction from porn and the violence ... Pushing new mediums to their limit, usually in the last way they were ever intended to be used (Gross, 2010). We start off the 20th Century with the Half–tone printing process being only two decades old. This was the first process that allowed images to be inexpensively reproduced. Magazines were the leading pornographic medium, and they were only available by mail. Then, with the advent of film, the Stag films were first produced in Germany and Latin America. With the arrival of do it yourself film equipment in the 1940's anyone could make a film. The problem was it required a lab to make mass copies, and since porn was ... This concept was later perfected with webcams and credit cards, giving the user full control over a live person, however interactive porn DVD's remained popular. Accepting Porn: Since the accidental discovery of the first pornography at Pompii in 1592 porn has had a bad reputation. It is a Victorian word first defined by Webster as "Licentious painting or literature". From its very beginning pornography was outlawed and banned from the public. In the beginning of the 20th century one could be jailed for even viewing a stag film. This may of hurt the quality of porn but it the principal of supply and demand stayed intact, and there was always an overwhelming demand. The way that demand has been supplied has changed drastically throughout the 20th century. Porn went from socially unacceptable to a social phenomenon. Public opinion, slowly, overturned government rule. The main reason porn became more acceptable was because masturbation became more socially acceptable (Paul, 2005). In the early 1900's we see masturbation as an act someone took shame in, because it meant that person didn't have anyone to have sex with. In modern times masturbation is said to be healthy by health care professionals and although it is not spoken of often, it is accepted. When porn was first discovered by the Victorians within the Roman ruins of Pompii there was a major fear that the lower educated, working class would do nothing all day but sit at home and ... • 40. Misconceptions Of Porn, Pornography, Crime, And Crimes And... One of the biggest misconceptions of porn is the way that a penis is portrayed to the viewers. In porn, the penis is generally viewed to be massive in size and or girth, which is a problem being that the average penis size is 3.5 inches flaccid and 5.1 inches when erect (MacGill, 2016). But in porn the penises tend to be at least 8 inches in length or more which is not a fair portrayal of what sex is like and in many cases, could even be uncomfortable for the partner/s that the person is going to have sex with. Which is not a fair comparison to either the viewer of the pornography or his partner due to them felling inferior to the porn star or having feelings of not being as good at sex cause of the size of his penis. Another significant aspect of pornography is the woman being surprised by the size of the man's penis. In most straight porn videos whenever the man shows his penis the woman is always surprised by how big the man's penis is at times comparing it to her forearm or other body parts. As Lehmiller says "However most women say that a larger penis does not increase their ability to reach orgasm (Costa, Miller & Brody 2012). There are certainly some women for whom a bigger member is preferred and may bring them more erotic pleasure, but this does not appear to be the case for most women." (Lehmiller 373). In this quote, one can see that in fact not all women want a bigger penis because for some women it may hurt to even attempt to have sex with such a large penis. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Influence Of Pornography Simon Lajeunusse, a Canadian scholar who was wishing to research the impact pornography has on young men, was unsuccessful due to being unable to find a control group of males who have not already viewed pornography (Weiss par. 1). Although the typical pornographic videos streamed via the Internet are what most people today believe to be the defining form of pornography, it is also displayed in many other mediums and has been for thousands of years. Most people see the word 'pornography' and immediately assume the worst, but they do not know the true definition or the history of the 11–lettered word. From its early forms of paintings on ancient Roman walls, and risquГ© novels during the Renaissance, to the creation of photography in the 1800s, and the booming of videos on the Internet in the 1990s, pornography has been through it all. Pornography is one of the most controversial topics of all time, and because of its vast meanings and forms, there are several differing views. The saying, "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder," is very relevant when it comes to the topic of pornography. One person's view of pornography could be another's view of beautiful art; This is when the controversy takes place. Some people believe pornography is harmful to women because of the degrading and violent acts toward them in most pornographic material; Others agree but believe there are other forms of pornography, erotic material, which could benefit a viewer and a relationship. The final sample consisted of female college students in the age range of 18 to 29 years. Stewart and Szymanski suggest that this is the ideal population for the study because this is when people are exploring their sexuality and have more access to doing so in the college environment due to the absence of parental restrictions.
