Ever since the beginning of time there have been stars....
Ever since the beginning of time there have been stars. Not only stars in the sky, but moons, planets,
and even galaxies! Astronomy is defined as the branch of science that deals with celestial objects,
space, and the physical universe as a whole. In other words it is the study of space, planets, and
stars. Throughout the ages, many people have used astronomy to help them learn about the universe,
our own planet, and even make predictions about life itself. Understanding astronomy means
understanding where it originated, the different groups/cultures that used it, and modern purposes of
the science of the stars. Where did astronomy originate? According to the Department of Astronomy,
the earliest people to keep astronomical records where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to research done by the National University of Singapore the pyramids are only 3/60 of a
degree off of true south. Another group contributing to the science of astronomy were the Chinese.
The Chinese have been observing the sky for several thousand years. They are the oldest civilization
with a continuous astronomical record. They have many amazing records, one including the first
documented solar eclipse (over 4,000 years ago in 2,136 B.C.) They also recorded the first planetary
grouping in 500 B.C. Planetary grouping is the planets separated into two groups. The inner and
outer planets. This was a major accomplishment on the Chinese's part because this led to the
discovery of the planets rotation and positions. (Which turned into planetary science)
The Polynesians were also an important group to astronomy. They were among the first people to
navigate oceans. They used the stars to guide them, while the sun allowed them to keep track of
their days. To navigate by using the stars you use celestial navigation. According to an article by
Amy VanHaren, you use the angles between stars and the horizon to locate your position on the
globe. To do this you use the Big Dipper and Cassiopeia. (The Big Dipper is shaped like a ladle with
a long handle and a rectangular head, while the Cassiopeia is a constellation of five stars that make

Octavian Nothing, Traitor To The Nation, Volume I: The Pox...
Octavian Nothing "The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing, Traitor to the Nation, Volume I: The
Pox Party" was a book written by M.T. Anderson, published on September 12, 2006, by Candlewick
Press. Octavian was a young boy who grew up in Boston around the time of the Revolutionary War.
He was raised in the Novanglian College of Lucidity with his mother, Cassiopeia. His purpose is to
be an experiment at the school. He is the subject that will prove that African Americans can be just
as intelligent as whites with the right education. Every day, he goes through controlled tasks and
punishment to help him learn and further their study. For example, one night, he was rejected dinner
until he could form a syllogism, a three–part proof, about how he knew a daddy longlegs is a spider.

It covers the details of when he was little, to his older teenage years. Each day has a purpose and
Octavian must follow the direction of those at the college or he would risk being punished. The
purpose of the school is to divining the secrets of the universe, to find the purposes behind
everything they didn't already understand. The school was reliant on funding and when the money
was no longer coming in steadily, the control left Mr.Gitney and into to the hands of Lord
Cheldthorpe, also known as Mr.Sharpe. The relaxed atmosphere quickly dissipated as tension rose
when the British Army posed threats and Lord Cheldthorpe was no longer receiving his way. The
climax of the story happens when the college and many surrounding residents of Boston all contain
themselves within the college and receive a small amount of the Pox virus. Of all of those injected
with the virus, very few die. However, one of those few is Octavian's mother. After she dies,
Octavian catches Mr.Gitney and Mr.Sharpe dissecting his mother's body and feels the desire to
escape, and so he

Cassiopeia Research Paper
Cassiopeia is the constellation I have chosen. It is a very interesting constellation, comprised of
various stars named with a Greek letter followed by Cassiopeiae (e.g. Alpha Cassiopeiae). The stars
also have various traditional names of other origin, for instance Alpha is traditionally called Shedir
from Arabic. I chose the constellation partly because I like the name, but it also has interesting
origins and I am glad I looked up more details about it.
Cassiopeia is not just comprised of stars, though, as there are also nebulae and supernova remnants
(including that of Tycho's Star). As Cassiopeia is made up of many different celestial objects, it is
not possible to say exactly how far away it is; however, its closest star (Eta) is 19.42 light years
away and its brightest (Alpha) is 229 light years away.

Cassiopeia is said to have been the wife of King Cepheus of Ethiopia. She boasted that she and her
daughter were more beautiful than the nymph–daughters (Nereids) of Nereus, which angered
Poseidon, who decided to destroy the kingdom of Ethiopia.
To attempt to appease the sea gods, Cassiopeia tied Persephone (her daughter) to a rock as a
sacrifice. Andromeda was saved by Perseus.
Poseidon decided that Cassiopeia deserved punishment, so she was tied to a chair in the heavens.
This meant that she was turned upside down half the time, and that is what the constellation is said
to represent.

Despite the warnings in previous days and hours, three fishermen set off to try to catch the fabled

The fishermen reasoned that if the Eel caused the storms, it would surely be there when the storms
appeared. They were skilled in their craft, and although they rarely spoke each was confident of

Big Dipper Research Paper
When fields of science are being discussed, most people are going to immediately think of fields
like biology, chemistry, and physics. It is quite strange that these fields are the most popular. This is
because biology, chemistry, and physics can be combined into one single field. That field would be
astronomy. While most may think that astronomy is just viewing stars through a telescope, there is
an immense amount of more complicated ideas associated with astronomy. What with the fastest
speeds, highest masses, major chemical compositions, and even the idea of sustaining life,
astronomy has to be one of the most complex fields of science. Without astronomy, many things
about the life of humans on earth would be a mystery, not to mention where ... Show more content

The lore behind the big dipper is actually about a celestial bear. The story is that the big dipper is
that the bowl of the dipper is the actual bear, while the 3 stars that trail behind it are hunters. In
autumn and early winter, the asterism is seen in the northern horizon early in the evenings. The
Micmac's described this as being significant to hibernation season and autumn. The reason it is
associated with autumn is because the hunters have caught up to the celestial bear and the bear's
bleeding nose is what gives color to the autumn leaves (McClure, 2016). While the big dipper is
very well known, it is difficult to discuss its significance without involving its companion, the little
dipper.
The little dipper is a different asterism that is a minimized version of the big dipper. The little dipper
is also within a different constellation; Ursa Minor. Before 600 BCE, the little dipper was the
formation of the constellation Draco the Dragon. However, in the year 600 BCE, the Phoenicians
met with the Greek astronomer Thales and showed him how to use the little dipper stars to navigate
the sky and the world. This then took the wings off of Draco the Dragon and provided Greek sailors
with a better method to navigating the sea (McClure,

Exploring Cassiopeia's Creation Myth
I have chosen Cassiopeia as my favorite constellation. The reason why i chose this constellation is
firstly because I find it very easy to find in the sky due to its M or W shape ( depending on the
season ), and secondly, because it is one of the first constellation on which I made a research on it's
creation myth. Cassiopeia is still to this day one of the 88 recognized constellations by the
International Atrsonomical Union.
Cassiopeia has a Greek mythology, her name comes from Cassiopeia wife of Cepheus and queen of
Aethiopia. The myth explains how Cassiopeia would have said that Andromeda, her daughter, was
much more beautiful than any Nereid, who are sea water spirits and said to be extremely beautiful.
The spirites, insulted, told this to Poseidon who, to punish Cassiopeia for her insolence, sends a sea
monster named Cetus to Aethiopia. To get rid of that monster, Cassiopea went to see an oracle. The
only solution the oracle came with to calm Cetus and make him go away was for Cassiopeia to
sacrifice her daughter Andromeda. She was then tied to a rock, but eventually saved by Perseus,
who then became his husband. Poseidon wasn't happy that Cassiopeia managed to get away with her
insolence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She came from a very important family, married well, and for that reason she never had to do
anything for her self which she enjoyed very much. She had an older son that she liked a lot, but
they never saw eye to eye when it came to hierarchy. He had learned with his travels to respect
everyone. He knew that he was blessed to be born in a royal family, but knew that power wasn't
something given, you sometimes have to work for it. The queen never respected her people, treating
them like slave almost. She really got angry when she learned that he was in love with one of the
servants who would often have to brush her hair. Cassiopeia decided to ban her from the kingdom to
make sure that her grandchildren wouldn't come from a low

"Those who lived on Mount Olympus never grew old; they never died. They were not humans. They
were the mighty gods and goddesses of ancient Greece." (Odyssey) These myths tell the stories of
the powerful beings who look on the earth from the night sky. Even though the story of Cassiopeia
is a Roman myth and the Tales from the Odyssey is a Greek myth, both have many similarities and
many differences between them. The Story of Cassiopeia is a Roman constellation myth as retold by
Thomas Kingsley Troupe. This myth tells the story of Cassiopeia, a queen who ruled a kingdom
called Ethiopia with her husband Cephas and daughter Andromeda. Andromeda was the most
beautiful girl in the kingdom and everyone always told her so. The mother and daughter often

Astronomy Essay
Astronomy
Astronomy is not just about the stars. Astronomy is about the constellations, the nine planets, the
sun and the moons. The solar system is very complex and has many extraordinary objects. There are
four different types of stars: Protostars, Bright Stars, Red Giants, and White Dwarfs. Protostars are
stars that are on the verge of being born. They are glowing clouds of dust and gas. Gravity pulls on
every atom moving them towards the center of the cloud of dust, which causes the Protostar to
collapse. Over a period of twenty million years the star begins to form and 10 million years after the
pocket of gas was formed, a star is born.
The second types of stars are called Bright Stars. They are formed when the new star ... Show more

Because it is so hot it gives off a glowing white light. This star is called a "White Dwarf" because of
its color. Out of the twenty stars that are closest to the Earth, two are White Dwarfs. The next big
thing about the solar system is the Planets. The nine planets play a big part in our solar system.
Astronomers have been studying them for a long time but there are still many things to learn about
them. The nine planets are Earth, Jupiter, Uranus, Pluto, Saturn, Neptune, Mars, Venus, and
Mercury.
Mercury is also known as the planet of Hot days and Cold nights and it is the closest planet to the
sun. It has the shortest year out of all the other planets, which is 88 days long and is half the size of
Earth. Mercury orbits the sun at an average distance of 36 million miles. Daytime temperatures of
Mercury can reach up to 800 degrees Fahrenheit. At night they can get down as low as –279 degrees
Fahrenheit.
Venus, also known as Cauldron, has a yearlong period of 243 Earth days. It is the second planet
away from the sun and can reach oven–like temperatures up to 475 degrees Fahrenheit, even at
night. Venus is a very bright planet, totally surrounded by clouds. "It is the sunlight reflected off
these clouds that makes the planet so bright" (Ridpath 24). This planet is very unique compared to
the other planets because scientists discovered that Venus actually rotates backwards also.
Mars, also known as the red planet, has air so thin that a

Constellations In Research Paper
For many years constellations have played an important role in different societies and culture, from
one generation to the other. But what is a constellations? from where does the name of constellations
come from? why are constellations useful? Or how can we find our nearby star this are some leading
im going to try to answer in this essay. A constellation is the group of a bright star that forms shapes
and patterns in the sky but are far apart in space. According to (Bennett, 2012) the start in a
particular constellation appear to look closer to one another, but in reality, they are quite far apart
because they lie at different distances from Earth. To measure the nearby star the astronomers use a
technique called parallax. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, if a person was looking for destinations in the sea, the first thing to look for is the big
dipper part of the Ursa Major, because the two right side of the big dipper points out directly to the
polar star. Another method to find the not start is by using the Cassiopeia in the sky as the north start
is between the big dipper and the Cassiopeia star. After the person reaches north, he/she could use
his left arm to find the west side and the right arm to find the east side and the south will be the
north star. The or belt could also serve as a way to help you located the south; by using the sword
that hangs from belts you can point your way south it. Ancient people use the star as a navigation
skill to located their destinations. In today's society, there are 12 familiar constellations that we
mostly know and play a significant role. These are knowns as the 12 zodiac sign. They are grouping
star that lies along the ecliptic– the plane in which our solar system lies. Usually, they are listed by
each month of the year, for example, the order goes by as "Capricorn's, Aquarius, pieces, Aries,

Octavian Nothing Traitor To The Nation Character Analysis
In the 18th century there was a rapid rise of slavery. Many Africans were captured by the Europeans
separating from their family and home village. Many slaves tried to escape from their masters in the
colonies because they wanted to go back to Africa. Some Africans accepted their fate and started a
new family in the colonies. In the novel Octavian Nothing Traitor to the Nation, Octavian knows
nothing about slavery because he was born in the colonies. He considers his master, mother, and the
other servants in the house as his family. In the film Roots (2016), Kunta Kinte was separated from
his family and was shipped to the Virginia. He tried to escape but failed so he accepted that he

The rite of Ostara is practiced by Wiccans to celebrate the fertility and life that they have and pray
for a fertile year. It is a celebration of the beginning of the light part of the year, to worship the
Maiden Goddess and call upon her powers of fertility. The lesser Sabbat of Ostara or the spring
equinox is a holiday that awakens spring and celebrates life for what it is. The holiday rite is started
by opening the circle with cleansing and energy building. Then the members of the coven begin the
magickal workings or praying. Which for Ostara entails thanking the Maiden Goddess for the
fertility and life of the previous year and asking for another fertile year to come. After this is done

The myth I have chosen is from the Ancient Greek culture. It is the tale of Perseus and Medusa.
From 800 to 500 B.C., this culture flourished in what is now northeastern portion of the
Mediterranean region. I believe this myth shows the complexities and difficulties in Ancient Greek
culture. The story of Perseus' journey to face evil arose to give the Greek's hope and courage.
Perseus was the first of many mighty Greek heroes. He was a demigod who was nearly invincible.
With extraordinary strength and thinking, there was nothing he could not challenge. One test did
however push him to his limits though.
Medusa was an evil Gorgon who had been cursed by the gods. If any person were to look at her
face, they would turn to stone. Perseus decided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was being sacrificed to a sea monster because her mother offended the gods. Perseus chose to
make a deal with Cassiopeia's parents. If he were to defeat the monster, he could marry Cassiopeia.
Perseus then rode Pegasus, a winged horse, and turned the monster into stone with Medusa's head.
The couple then lived happily for the rest of their lives. This myth originates from the archaic
renaissance of Greece. This burst of excellence was home to many of the great thinkers of the time
such as Archimedes, Plato, Socrates, and Homer. Though they excelled in technology and the arts,
their society was rather violent. Greek consisted of many city–states that often fought with each
other. This had a major influence on their mythology, which can be witnessed just in this myth. The
tale of Perseus represents many values that the Greek's held dear such as bravery, courage, honesty,
and integrity. Perseus helped people by doing what is right despite facing unlikely odds. The ideals
presented not only can be viewed as representing the Greeks but also can be seen as a teaching
lesson. The main points of this myth can be applied to this modern age. One example is helping
those in need just as when Perseus helped the terrorized

Going back and thinking about the myths and stories I learned this semester I began to see a pattern
between a couple of them that caught my eye. In multiple myths that I learned about, I began to
realize this theme of being abandoned and then being saved. There have been numerous myths
based on this idea where either a man or female is in trouble and is dropped off somewhere and left
to face death or some sort of punishment. Almost always though, right before that could happen
somebody usually always a god, swoops in and saves them. It is as though these myths are

story of Perseus and Andromeda is similar I believe it has a different meaning. The message I

generally the best at something do not flaunt it. There is always going to be someone who is either

Personal Narrative Essay On Being Homeless
No amount of sleep in the world could cure the tiredness I feel. I don't know where I found the

Cassiopeia: The Seated Queen and the Wish–granting Dragon
The famed Alexandrian astronomer, Ptolemy, catalogued Cassiopeia among his original 48
constellations recorded in The Almagest, and it still shines brightly to this day. Visible year–round,
Cassiopeia is easily identified by its "W" shape. This distinction, also known as an asterism, made
Cassiopeia one of the first constellations I could identify in the night sky. Each time I spot those five
stars I am hit with a wave of nostalgia and this has caused Cassiopeia to be among my favorite
constellations. While predominantly appearing in the Northern sky, Cassiopeia may also be viewed
from parts of the Southern hemisphere. The stars span an area of 598 square degrees, making
Cassiopeia the 25th largest of the 88 recognized constellations. Included in the formation are open
clusters Messier 52 and Messier 103; the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A; a star–forming cloud
known as the Pacman Nebula; and The White Rose Cluster. German–British astronomer Caroline
Hershel discovered the cluster in 1783. Approximately 300 stars form this cluster, which appears as
a delicate rose gently unfolding in the sky. Cassiopeia belongs to the Perseus family that also
includes the constellations Andromeda, Auriga, Cepheus, Cetus, Lacuta, Pegasus, Perseus, and
Triangulum.

Constellations: Cassiopeia
Essay 24: Constellations – Cassiopeia
The constellation, Cassiopeia, the Queen, is found in the northern sky relatively close to the north
celestial pole. This constellation is circumpolar for all sky watchers who live above 40 degrees north
latitude. Cassiopeia borders the constellations Cepheus (the King), Camelopardalis (the Giraffe),
Perseus (the Hero), and Andromeda (the Princess).
In Greek mythology, Cassiopeia was the queen of Ethiopia. When she boasted that her daughter

the constellation Cetus) to ravage the coast. Out of desperation to save her country, Cassiopeia

For amateur stargazers, September through March are the optimal months for spotting Cassiopeia. In
the southern hemisphere, the constellation is visible from May to August at locations north of the
Tropic of Capricorn (23.5 degrees south latitude).
The easiest way to identify this constellation is to find the North Star (Polaris), which is at the end of
the Little Dipper's tail. The Little Dipper is the most noticeable feature of the constellation Ursa
Minor. As a reminder, Polaris is always as many degrees above the northern horizon as you are north
of the equator. Look approximately two hand widths or so away at the area of sky opposite the Little
Dipper, and Cassiopeia should be visible as an M, W, E, or 3 shape depending on the season of the
year and/or the time of night you are star gazing.
Stars
Cassiopeia contains no first magnitude stars. It does contain several 2nd and 3rd magnitude stars,
and its shape is rather distinctive. Schedar, meaning breast in Arabic, is the alpha star in the
constellation. It is magnitude 2.2 and 120 light years from Earth. The beta star in Cassiopeia is
called Caph, meaning hand in Arabic and Hebrew. It is magnitude 2.3 and located 42 light years
from Earth. The gamma star is called Cih, meaning whip in Chinese. It is 780 light years away, and
its brightness varies sporadically from magnitude 1.6 to

"Twinkle twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are..." The common lullaby that is known by
many, but what do these words really mean? After visiting the observatory, one could learned more
about the words and the concepts found in the common nursery rhythm. During my visit to the
observatory, I was able to learn more about stars, constellations, and asterisms in different parts of

In the North East we saw. Cassiopeia. Similar to Ursa Major, and Ursa Minor. Cassiopeia is a
circumpolar star in Cedar Falls. A Circumpolar star, is a star that will never set in a specific location
due to its proximity to the celestial pole. When looking at Cassiopeia she looks like a house. A
square base, with a triangle on top. Saturn was located in the South Western Sky. When looking at
Saturn with my own eyes, I could easily confuse it with Arcturus in the Western Sky. With the naked
eye they look about the same size, and brightness, and there is only one small difference. When
looking at the star and the planet, everyone should notice one twinkles, and the other is a constant
stream of light. The one that is twinkle is Arcturus. As the common lullaby states, stars twinkle. The
telescope used on September 3rd, contains a lenses twelve inches in circumference, which makes it
the second largest at the University of Northern Iowa's campus. To determine the quality of a
telescope, you measure the circumference of the lenses, and not the length. The wider the
circumference of a telescope allows more light to enter, which allows a better quality of picture.
This particular telescope can magnify by seventy–five. This lens was bought by the University of
Northern Iowa twenty years ago for $5,000. It uses a computer system to track the stars and galaxies

Observation of Earth’s Constellations Essay
Earth's galaxy, the Milky Way consists of more than 100 billion stars, many of which can be
interpreted by human visual perception, while other can only be observed with the aid of a
magnifying or light–collecting optical device such as a telescope. The stars are organized into
various groupings according to their visible arrangement as observed in earth's atmosphere. Human
beings from cultures of eras bygone such as the Greeks, Romans, and Babylonians, and bestowed
most, if not all of the titles upon the constellations as we know them today. Earth's atmosphere

Cepheus is an inconspicuous constellation, which is dimmer than most and in the northern
hemisphere located west of Cassiopeia. It has been recognized that the binary star Cephei from its
constellation, will be the next Polar star between AD 3000 and 5200 (fourth and sixth century), and
will be in a position adjacent the celestial pole around AD 4000 (fifth century). The constellation
encompasses various nebulae, star clusters and galaxies such as the Milky Way which transverses an
area of the Cephus constellation by way of its adjoining southern space with Lacerta. The
constellation Draco is another circumpolar constellation, which is observable in the Northern
Hemisphere from the September equinox to the December solstice. It is a very luminous
constellation that consists of four stars resembling a trapezoid. Draco's constellation consists of
various interacting galaxies whose gravitational fields causes disturbances to one another and along
with galaxy clusters. I spent as much time as I could observing the stars and constellations for this

informative. I am giving serious consideration towards purchasing a telescope as a result of this

Describe Andromeda Research Paper
My favorite constellation is Andromeda. Not only is this constellation prominent during my favorite
season, fall, the story of Andromeda is fascinating. Andromeda is one of the 88 modern
constellations and one of 48 listed by the 2nd century Greco–Roman astronomer Ptolemy.
Andromeda is one of the largest constellations having an area of 722 square degrees. A notable
feature for Andromeda would be the deep–sky object Andromeda galaxy which is the closest spiral
galaxy to the Milky Way. The queen of Ethiopia, Cassiopeia bragged about the beauty of her
daughters beauty saying she was more beautiful then the Nereids or sea nymphs. The sea nymphs

Essay Writing: Dean's Infamy
A clanging sound from the bunker's kitchen awoke Dean from his slumber. He and Cas had gotten
Sammy back a few days ago and they had collectively decided to take sometime to regroup. Dean
rubbed his eyes roughly with the backs of his hands and practically rolled out of bed. He sleepily
adjusted his pajamas, which consisted of a loose ACDC T–shirt and some plaid pajama pants, and
stumbled out of his room and into the hallway. Looking in to the Sammy's room and seeing him
eagle spread, taking up an entire king sized bed all by himself, Dean moved toward Cas's room,
which was next door to his. As he approached, he deduced that the lack of Cas's light snores meant
that he must already be up. He peered into the room and saw the bed freshly made, the blue
comforter that he had bought for Cas (most definitely not because it perfectly resembled his deep,
crystalline, soul searching eyes) was tucked snugly beneath the edges of the mattress. Dean turned
back towards his room and was hit with the rich smell of bacon, freshly brewed coffee, and
something else sweet he couldn't quite put his finger on. He made his way down the hallway, past
his room, and toward the kitchen, following his nose and trying to decipher the third, familiar,
tantalizing smell. Finally reaching the kitchen, Dean's jaw dropped when he saw the source of the
mystery smell sitting in a neat pile on a plate on the table. It was a plate of blueberry–banana
pancakes. Just as the drool started to collect at the

mortals, whose faith and prayers has fueled the gods' immortality. As time passed, however, mortals
began to question and soon resist their creators, angering the Olympians.

I chose the constellation Andromeda because the back story and myths it has really fascinates me! I
feel that some of the myths behind the consolations can be rather boring, but with the romance and
danger all wrapped into one, I continue going back to it. This constellation is the 19th largest in the
sky and is located in the first quadrant of the northern hemisphere. It takes seven–hundred–twenty–
two square feet in the sky! The myth is that Cassiopeia, Andromeda's mother was telling everybody
that her daughter was the most beautiful person ever created and that she was even more beautiful
then the gods themselves. Naturally, that upset the gods, mostly Poseidon, because he thought he

The History of Fandoms
Fandoms are among the so–called 'fabrics of culture' that comprise our lives, regardless of our age,
gender, nationality, and whatever differences that we may have. Fanfiction Terminology defines a
fandom as "the fan–based community dedicated to a particular TV show or other cult–inducing
medium, including movies, books, comics, and other source material" (Common Fandom Terms 1).
Someone may be invested in collecting Beatles albums, and another person may have memorized
every character in the Marvel universe. Many people may be caught up in lamenting over episodes
of Doctor Who, while some may be disturbed yet thrilled by the storyline of Death Note. When
these people aggregate to enjoy particular media together, fandoms begin to expand.
Although fandoms are deemed in the vernacular as 'cool' and 'modern', they actually date back to the
1880s when the fans of the Sherlock Holmes series mourned over the main character's death.
According to Fancyclopedia 3, an organization named First Fandom was created in 1959 to gather
science fiction fans (1). It is not a surprise that there are millions of established fandoms today,
especially since we are living in a world where the Information Explosion has already taken place.
The Fanfiction Statistics Website indicates that there are 6,600,000 registered titles in
Fanfiction.Net, which is an archive for written fanworks appropriately called fanfiction (1). In

against the aboriginal peoples of North America, he didn't actually prove the earth was round, and he

who enslaved other human beings for the purpose of obtaining gold. He mistreated these people

the rape and murder of first nations women and they were often killed as sport. This is absolutely
horrible and no man should be celebrated when he has committed

Perseus Andromeda Research Paper
The constellation that I've chosen to discuss in this essay is the constellation Andromeda. The reason
why I've chosen this constellation is as a young girl I've always loved the Greek Myths in all their
many versions. I remember liking the tale of Perseus and Andromeda and the sense of adventure I
found in the tale.
The constellation Andromeda is said to be located in the northern sky, otherwise called the northern
hemisphere, containing the 'Andromeda Galaxy'.
Following on with the Greek myth, there are also several constellations that border the Andromeda
constellation, Perseus, Cassiopeia, Lacerta, Pegasus, Pisces, Cepheus and Triangulum, but the ones
to note are the ones from the myth: Perseus, Cassiopeia, Cepheus and in some versions of the tale,
Pegasus. Her future lover and king, her mother, her father and the winged steed that aided Perseus.
From the versions I have heard, it's hard to remember what is from one and what is from another.
Thus, my retelling will most likely pull from several.
Andromeda was born princess, daughter of Cepheus and Cassiopeia, the king and queen of
'Ethiopia'. The princess was a beautiful young woman, and her mother the queen Cassiopeia was so

Tycho was the eldest son of Otto Brahe and Beatte Bille; he was also born into high nobility, he was

Despite his family's demanding him to get a degree in the law, Tycho wanted to get a degree in
astronomy.
There were three major crucial events that occurred in Tycho's life that caused him to change his
career choice of law for astronomy. A predicted total solar eclipse, on August 21, 1560, was the first
spark that lit up. As many of his future references stated, seeing such a prediction as resolute and
supernatural were truly unforgettable.

In Tycho's time, however, this caused mass hysteria. The reason why is because much of the law,
especially the Catholic Church, still believed in Aristotle's basis of central and unbroken harmony of
the whole world, which was ruled by "the perfect and unchanging stars", so many scientists at the
time had to protect themselves against the unpredictability of the reactions by the supporters of the
harmony.
The announcement of stars that can be changed and created as greatly as Tycho described it, along
with the heliocentric theory, where the sun was the center of the universe instead of the Earth, that
was brought up from Copernicus, shook confidence in the unchangeable laws of the distant past and
prompted that the chaos and imperfections of Earth were emulated in the heavens. With the help of
the new star's discovery in 1572, as well as his publicized observations of it in 1573, Tycho
revolutionized from an amateur to a professional astronomer.
The discovery of finding a new star in the Cassiopeia constellation caused Tycho to re–live his life
towards astronomy again, and there was one important and urgent task he needed to accomplish; to
establish a large observatory in Germany for regular observations of celestial

Words To Describe Andromeda
My favorite constellation is Andromeda, and not because of the myth behind her creation or how she

For example, Cassiopeia A is a remnant supernova!
It is the brightest astronomical radio source in the sky. It was discovered in 1947 and is the strongest
radio source outside the solar system. Its explosion ejected cloud material that is 10 light years
across and is expanding at a rate of 4,000–6,000 km/s. Its temperature s about 50 million degrees F.
The first light of this supernova reached us about 300 years ago! Coordinates: RA 23h 23m 26.7s |

There's also the Pacman Nebula or NGC 281.
The Pacman Nebula is an H II region or a large gas cloud where a star has recently formed.
It contains a large amount of ionised atomic hydrogen (H II) which is lit by the ultraviolet light of
young, hot, blue stars.
It was nicknamed the Pacman Nebula because of it looks a little like the Pacman character from the

Exploring the Ancient Creation Myth of the Cassiopeia Constellation

  • 1. Ever since the beginning of time there have been stars.... Ever since the beginning of time there have been stars. Not only stars in the sky, but moons, planets, and even galaxies! Astronomy is defined as the branch of science that deals with celestial objects, space, and the physical universe as a whole. In other words it is the study of space, planets, and stars. Throughout the ages, many people have used astronomy to help them learn about the universe, our own planet, and even make predictions about life itself. Understanding astronomy means understanding where it originated, the different groups/cultures that used it, and modern purposes of the science of the stars. Where did astronomy originate? According to the Department of Astronomy, the earliest people to keep astronomical records where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to research done by the National University of Singapore the pyramids are only 3/60 of a degree off of true south. Another group contributing to the science of astronomy were the Chinese. The Chinese have been observing the sky for several thousand years. They are the oldest civilization with a continuous astronomical record. They have many amazing records, one including the first documented solar eclipse (over 4,000 years ago in 2,136 B.C.) They also recorded the first planetary grouping in 500 B.C. Planetary grouping is the planets separated into two groups. The inner and outer planets. This was a major accomplishment on the Chinese's part because this led to the discovery of the planets rotation and positions. (Which turned into planetary science) The Polynesians were also an important group to astronomy. They were among the first people to navigate oceans. They used the stars to guide them, while the sun allowed them to keep track of their days. To navigate by using the stars you use celestial navigation. According to an article by Amy VanHaren, you use the angles between stars and the horizon to locate your position on the globe. To do this you use the Big Dipper and Cassiopeia. (The Big Dipper is shaped like a ladle with a long handle and a rectangular head, while the Cassiopeia is a constellation of five stars that make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Octavian Nothing, Traitor To The Nation, Volume I: The Pox... Octavian Nothing "The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing, Traitor to the Nation, Volume I: The Pox Party" was a book written by M.T. Anderson, published on September 12, 2006, by Candlewick Press. Octavian was a young boy who grew up in Boston around the time of the Revolutionary War. He was raised in the Novanglian College of Lucidity with his mother, Cassiopeia. His purpose is to be an experiment at the school. He is the subject that will prove that African Americans can be just as intelligent as whites with the right education. Every day, he goes through controlled tasks and punishment to help him learn and further their study. For example, one night, he was rejected dinner until he could form a syllogism, a three–part proof, about how he knew a daddy longlegs is a spider. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It covers the details of when he was little, to his older teenage years. Each day has a purpose and Octavian must follow the direction of those at the college or he would risk being punished. The purpose of the school is to divining the secrets of the universe, to find the purposes behind everything they didn't already understand. The school was reliant on funding and when the money was no longer coming in steadily, the control left Mr.Gitney and into to the hands of Lord Cheldthorpe, also known as Mr.Sharpe. The relaxed atmosphere quickly dissipated as tension rose when the British Army posed threats and Lord Cheldthorpe was no longer receiving his way. The climax of the story happens when the college and many surrounding residents of Boston all contain themselves within the college and receive a small amount of the Pox virus. Of all of those injected with the virus, very few die. However, one of those few is Octavian's mother. After she dies, Octavian catches Mr.Gitney and Mr.Sharpe dissecting his mother's body and feels the desire to escape, and so he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Cassiopeia Research Paper Cassiopeia is the constellation I have chosen. It is a very interesting constellation, comprised of various stars named with a Greek letter followed by Cassiopeiae (e.g. Alpha Cassiopeiae). The stars also have various traditional names of other origin, for instance Alpha is traditionally called Shedir from Arabic. I chose the constellation partly because I like the name, but it also has interesting origins and I am glad I looked up more details about it. Cassiopeia is not just comprised of stars, though, as there are also nebulae and supernova remnants (including that of Tycho's Star). As Cassiopeia is made up of many different celestial objects, it is not possible to say exactly how far away it is; however, its closest star (Eta) is 19.42 light years away and its brightest (Alpha) is 229 light years away. 2: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cassiopeia is said to have been the wife of King Cepheus of Ethiopia. She boasted that she and her daughter were more beautiful than the nymph–daughters (Nereids) of Nereus, which angered Poseidon, who decided to destroy the kingdom of Ethiopia. To attempt to appease the sea gods, Cassiopeia tied Persephone (her daughter) to a rock as a sacrifice. Andromeda was saved by Perseus. Poseidon decided that Cassiopeia deserved punishment, so she was tied to a chair in the heavens. This meant that she was turned upside down half the time, and that is what the constellation is said to represent. 3: Despite the warnings in previous days and hours, three fishermen set off to try to catch the fabled Scarlet Eel. The Scarlet Eel was said to cause the huge storms that raged across the land, threatening to destroy the lives of those who lived there. The fishermen reasoned that if the Eel caused the storms, it would surely be there when the storms appeared. They were skilled in their craft, and although they rarely spoke each was confident of their chances against the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Big Dipper Research Paper When fields of science are being discussed, most people are going to immediately think of fields like biology, chemistry, and physics. It is quite strange that these fields are the most popular. This is because biology, chemistry, and physics can be combined into one single field. That field would be astronomy. While most may think that astronomy is just viewing stars through a telescope, there is an immense amount of more complicated ideas associated with astronomy. What with the fastest speeds, highest masses, major chemical compositions, and even the idea of sustaining life, astronomy has to be one of the most complex fields of science. Without astronomy, many things about the life of humans on earth would be a mystery, not to mention where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The lore behind the big dipper is actually about a celestial bear. The story is that the big dipper is that the bowl of the dipper is the actual bear, while the 3 stars that trail behind it are hunters. In autumn and early winter, the asterism is seen in the northern horizon early in the evenings. The Micmac's described this as being significant to hibernation season and autumn. The reason it is associated with autumn is because the hunters have caught up to the celestial bear and the bear's bleeding nose is what gives color to the autumn leaves (McClure, 2016). While the big dipper is very well known, it is difficult to discuss its significance without involving its companion, the little dipper. The little dipper is a different asterism that is a minimized version of the big dipper. The little dipper is also within a different constellation; Ursa Minor. Before 600 BCE, the little dipper was the formation of the constellation Draco the Dragon. However, in the year 600 BCE, the Phoenicians met with the Greek astronomer Thales and showed him how to use the little dipper stars to navigate the sky and the world. This then took the wings off of Draco the Dragon and provided Greek sailors with a better method to navigating the sea (McClure, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Exploring Cassiopeia's Creation Myth I have chosen Cassiopeia as my favorite constellation. The reason why i chose this constellation is firstly because I find it very easy to find in the sky due to its M or W shape ( depending on the season ), and secondly, because it is one of the first constellation on which I made a research on it's creation myth. Cassiopeia is still to this day one of the 88 recognized constellations by the International Atrsonomical Union. Cassiopeia has a Greek mythology, her name comes from Cassiopeia wife of Cepheus and queen of Aethiopia. The myth explains how Cassiopeia would have said that Andromeda, her daughter, was much more beautiful than any Nereid, who are sea water spirits and said to be extremely beautiful. The spirites, insulted, told this to Poseidon who, to punish Cassiopeia for her insolence, sends a sea monster named Cetus to Aethiopia. To get rid of that monster, Cassiopea went to see an oracle. The only solution the oracle came with to calm Cetus and make him go away was for Cassiopeia to sacrifice her daughter Andromeda. She was then tied to a rock, but eventually saved by Perseus, who then became his husband. Poseidon wasn't happy that Cassiopeia managed to get away with her insolence ... She had an older son that she liked a lot, but they never saw eye to eye when it came to hierarchy. He had learned with his travels to respect everyone. He knew that he was blessed to be born in a royal family, but knew that power wasn't something given, you sometimes have to work for it. The queen never respected her people, treating them like slave almost. She really got angry when she learned that he was in love with one of the servants who would often have to brush her hair. (Odyssey) These myths tell the stories of the powerful beings who look on the earth from the night sky. Even though the story of Cassiopeia is a Roman myth and the Tales from the Odyssey is a Greek myth, both have many similarities and many differences between them. The Story of Cassiopeia is a Roman constellation myth as retold by Thomas Kingsley Troupe. This myth tells the story of Cassiopeia, a queen who ruled a kingdom called Ethiopia with her husband Cephas and daughter Andromeda. Andromeda was the most beautiful girl in the kingdom and everyone always told her so. Because of this Neptune sent a sea monster to flood Ethiopia and destroy everything there and leave nothing not even people. The king and his wife went to the Oracle to see if they could stop the monster. The Oracle said they had to give their daughter to it and then they would be saved. As they were offering their daughter to the monster a man named Perseus flew up on a Pegasus and saved her by freezing the monster in stone with the head of Medusa. In time the Gods forgave them and raised them to the heavens to be stars in the sky. The Gods did not forget that Cassiopeia was selfish though and so they turned her stars upside ... The solar system is very complex and has many extraordinary objects. There are four different types of stars: Protostars, Bright Stars, Red Giants, and White Dwarfs. Protostars are stars that are on the verge of being born. They are glowing clouds of dust and gas. Gravity pulls on every atom moving them towards the center of the cloud of dust, which causes the Protostar to collapse. Over a period of twenty million years the star begins to form and 10 million years after the pocket of gas was formed, a star is born. The second types of stars are called Bright Stars. They are formed when the new star ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because it is so hot it gives off a glowing white light. This star is called a "White Dwarf" because of its color. Out of the twenty stars that are closest to the Earth, two are White Dwarfs. The next big thing about the solar system is the Planets. The nine planets play a big part in our solar system. Astronomers have been studying them for a long time but there are still many things to learn about them. The nine planets are Earth, Jupiter, Uranus, Pluto, Saturn, Neptune, Mars, Venus, and Mercury. Mercury is also known as the planet of Hot days and Cold nights and it is the closest planet to the sun. It has the shortest year out of all the other planets, which is 88 days long and is half the size of Earth. Mercury orbits the sun at an average distance of 36 million miles. Daytime temperatures of Mercury can reach up to 800 degrees Fahrenheit. At night they can get down as low as –279 degrees Fahrenheit. Venus, also known as Cauldron, has a yearlong period of 243 Earth days. It is the second planet away from the sun and can reach oven–like temperatures up to 475 degrees Fahrenheit, even at night. Venus is a very bright planet, totally surrounded by clouds. "It is the sunlight reflected off these clouds that makes the planet so bright" (Ridpath 24). This planet is very unique compared to the other planets because scientists discovered that Venus actually rotates backwards also. Mars, also known as the red planet, has air so thin that a ... But what is a constellations? from where does the name of constellations come from? why are constellations useful? Or how can we find our nearby star this are some leading im going to try to answer in this essay. A constellation is the group of a bright star that forms shapes and patterns in the sky but are far apart in space. According to (Bennett, 2012) the start in a particular constellation appear to look closer to one another, but in reality, they are quite far apart because they lie at different distances from Earth. • 21. Perseus Research Paper The myth I have chosen is from the Ancient Greek culture. It is the tale of Perseus and Medusa. From 800 to 500 B.C., this culture flourished in what is now northeastern portion of the Mediterranean region. I believe this myth shows the complexities and difficulties in Ancient Greek culture. The story of Perseus' journey to face evil arose to give the Greek's hope and courage. Perseus was the first of many mighty Greek heroes. He was a demigod who was nearly invincible. With extraordinary strength and thinking, there was nothing he could not challenge. One test did however push him to his limits though. Medusa was an evil Gorgon who had been cursed by the gods. If any person were to look at her face, they would turn to stone. Perseus decided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was being sacrificed to a sea monster because her mother offended the gods. Perseus chose to make a deal with Cassiopeia's parents. If he were to defeat the monster, he could marry Cassiopeia. Perseus then rode Pegasus, a winged horse, and turned the monster into stone with Medusa's head. The couple then lived happily for the rest of their lives. This myth originates from the archaic renaissance of Greece. This burst of excellence was home to many of the great thinkers of the time such as Archimedes, Plato, Socrates, and Homer. Though they excelled in technology and the arts, their society was rather violent. Greek consisted of many city–states that often fought with each other. This had a major influence on their mythology, which can be witnessed just in this myth. The tale of Perseus represents many values that the Greek's held dear such as bravery, courage, honesty, and integrity. Perseus helped people by doing what is right despite facing unlikely odds. The ideals presented not only can be viewed as representing the Greeks but also can be seen as a teaching lesson. The main points of this myth can be applied to this modern age. One example is helping those in need just as when Perseus helped the terrorized ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In multiple myths that I learned about, I began to realize this theme of being abandoned and then being saved. There have been numerous myths based on this idea where either a man or female is in trouble and is dropped off somewhere and left to face death or some sort of punishment. Almost always though, right before that could happen somebody usually always a god, swoops in and saves them. You would expect a teenage girl like me to go to an endless amount of parties... or maybe actually go outside once in awhile, but that was just not me. I felt like I had been shoved down the garbage disposal, and I was in tiny chunks where all my tiny nerves were being fried by electricity. I didn't have that moment of peaceful forgetfulness that people have in the movies. The Seated Queen And The Wish Granting Dragon Cassiopeia: The Seated Queen and the Wish–granting Dragon The famed Alexandrian astronomer, Ptolemy, catalogued Cassiopeia among his original 48 constellations recorded in The Almagest, and it still shines brightly to this day. Visible year–round, Cassiopeia is easily identified by its "W" shape. This distinction, also known as an asterism, made Cassiopeia one of the first constellations I could identify in the night sky. Each time I spot those five stars I am hit with a wave of nostalgia and this has caused Cassiopeia to be among my favorite constellations. While predominantly appearing in the Northern sky, Cassiopeia may also be viewed from parts of the Southern hemisphere. The stars span an area of 598 square degrees, making Cassiopeia the 25th largest of the 88 recognized constellations. Included in the formation are open clusters Messier 52 and Messier 103; the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A; a star–forming cloud known as the Pacman Nebula; and The White Rose Cluster. German–British astronomer Caroline Hershel discovered the cluster in 1783. Approximately 300 stars form this cluster, which appears as a delicate rose gently unfolding in the sky. Cassiopeia belongs to the Perseus family that also includes the constellations Andromeda, Auriga, Cepheus, Cetus, Lacuta, Pegasus, Perseus, and Triangulum. Cassiopeia is also called The Seated Queen. The Little Dipper is the most noticeable feature of the constellation Ursa Minor. As a reminder, Polaris is always as many degrees above the northern horizon as you are north of the equator. As she grew older her beauty did not fade, but alas, it grew stronger, yet she did not notice. At her 15th birthday her parents grew tired and their number one mission became to marry her off, as they just had a great harvest and could afford a small dowry. They made her walk through the local village in thin clothing every day so that the men would notice her, and make her curl her hair and spend time working on her looks so that her natural beauty could not shine through, only the ... • 53. Andromeda Research Paper Those who study Astronomy, both muggle and wizard alike, are aware of the constellation Andromeda, or "The Chained Woman." Andromeda is one of the largest constellations in modern times. The Chained Woman is a source of fascination to many, including me. The constellation can be found in Greek, Chinese, Hindu and even ancient Babylon history. Nearly all the myths that involve Andromeda are based off a woman chained to a rock, yet the Chinese believed that the constellation was 4 different parts, all representing different parts of either Chinese history or myths. As a witch of Chinese ancestry, it is intriguing to me how the Chinese thought so differently of Andromeda. I also chose this constellation because there's a famous person in the Wizarding ... She quickly settled into kickboxing lessons and cut her hair short, but she still had one more thing to deal with. Her name. Oh, how she loathed her name. It was a reminder of the past, of how her mother would force her into dresses and how the only toys she had were Barbies. (Most of them got haircuts and became female assassins and spies). Her father called her Andy when her mother wasn't around, and her friends called her "Drom." But whenever she was at the doctor's office, or met a new person, she had to explain her name and it simply got to be too much. She needed a new name. Now, Andromeda couldn't just change her name legally. I mean, she could, but it was expensive and being an American muggle college graduate with student loans, there was no chance she could legally change her name without going further into debt. Unless she married someone. In America, legally changing your name is free once you get a marriage license. Well, Andromeda didn't know what to do. She never doubted that she wouldn't marry, but now she had to marry to change her name. So she traveled the world (hitch–hiking, again she couldn't exactly pay for the traveling) looking for a suitable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. The History of Fandoms Fandoms are among the so–called 'fabrics of culture' that comprise our lives, regardless of our age, gender, nationality, and whatever differences that we may have. Fanfiction Terminology defines a fandom as "the fan–based community dedicated to a particular TV show or other cult–inducing medium, including movies, books, comics, and other source material" (Common Fandom Terms 1). Someone may be invested in collecting Beatles albums, and another person may have memorized every character in the Marvel universe. Many people may be caught up in lamenting over episodes of Doctor Who, while some may be disturbed yet thrilled by the storyline of Death Note. When these people aggregate to enjoy particular media together, fandoms begin to expand. Although fandoms are deemed in the vernacular as 'cool' and 'modern', they actually date back to the 1880s when the fans of the Sherlock Holmes series mourned over the main character's death. According to Fancyclopedia 3, an organization named First Fandom was created in 1959 to gather science fiction fans (1). It is not a surprise that there are millions of established fandoms today, especially since we are living in a world where the Information Explosion has already taken place. The Fanfiction Statistics Website indicates that there are 6,600,000 registered titles in Fanfiction.Net, which is an archive for written fanworks appropriately called fanfiction (1). This is because Columbus has committed many harsh and cruel crimes against the aboriginal peoples of North America, he didn't actually prove the earth was round, and he wasn't even really the first (white) person to discover it. Firstly, Columbus was in fact a murdered who enslaved other human beings for the purpose of obtaining gold. He mistreated these people horribly often cutting their hands off if they didn't supply him with the gold he desired. He permitted the rape and murder of first nations women and they were often killed as sport. This is absolutely horrible and no man should be celebrated when he has committed ... • 59. Perseus Andromeda Research Paper The constellation that I've chosen to discuss in this essay is the constellation Andromeda. The reason why I've chosen this constellation is as a young girl I've always loved the Greek Myths in all their many versions. I remember liking the tale of Perseus and Andromeda and the sense of adventure I found in the tale. The constellation Andromeda is said to be located in the northern sky, otherwise called the northern hemisphere, containing the 'Andromeda Galaxy'. Following on with the Greek myth, there are also several constellations that border the Andromeda constellation, Perseus, Cassiopeia, Lacerta, Pegasus, Pisces, Cepheus and Triangulum, but the ones to note are the ones from the myth: Perseus, Cassiopeia, Cepheus and in some versions of the tale, Pegasus. Her future lover and king, her mother, her father and the winged steed that aided Perseus. From the versions I have heard, it's hard to remember what is from one and what is from another. Thus, my retelling will most likely pull from several. Andromeda was born princess, daughter of Cepheus and Cassiopeia, the king and queen of 'Ethiopia'. The princess was a beautiful young woman, and her mother the queen Cassiopeia was so arrogantly proud of her daughter's beauty that she boasted to all that ... Tycho Research Paper Tycho was the eldest son of Otto Brahe and Beatte Bille; he was also born into high nobility, he was raised by his uncle, Jørgen Brahe, and was brought to universities in Copenhagen and Leipzig. Despite his family's demanding him to get a degree in the law, Tycho wanted to get a degree in astronomy. There were three major crucial events that occurred in Tycho's life that caused him to change his career choice of law for astronomy. A predicted total solar eclipse, on August 21, 1560, was the first spark that lit up. As many of his future references stated, seeing such a prediction as resolute and supernatural were truly unforgettable. Tycho's next symbolical moment in his life took place in August 1563, when he noticed several inaccuracies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Tycho's time, however, this caused mass hysteria. The reason why is because much of the law, especially the Catholic Church, still believed in Aristotle's basis of central and unbroken harmony of the whole world, which was ruled by "the perfect and unchanging stars", so many scientists at the time had to protect themselves against the unpredictability of the reactions by the supporters of the harmony. The announcement of stars that can be changed and created as greatly as Tycho described it, along with the heliocentric theory, where the sun was the center of the universe instead of the Earth, that was brought up from Copernicus, shook confidence in the unchangeable laws of the distant past and prompted that the chaos and imperfections of Earth were emulated in the heavens. With the help of the new star's discovery in 1572, as well as his publicized observations of it in 1573, Tycho revolutionized from an amateur to a professional astronomer. The discovery of finding a new star in the Cassiopeia constellation caused Tycho to re–live his life towards astronomy again, and there was one important and urgent task he needed to accomplish; to establish a large observatory in Germany for regular observations of celestial ... I like Andromeda because just inside her center is the coolest possible thing to see in the night sky. Looking only as a small blurry spot inside of Andromeda, the Andromeda Galaxy is the Milky Way's closest neighboring galaxy. It can be seen (with some degree of difficulty), without the aid of a telescope or binoculars. It blows my mind to know that I am looking at another galaxy entirely! The Andromeda constellation appears in the night sky as a curved "V" and be seen close to the often recognized "W" shape that is Cassiopeia, Andromeda's mother. Still though, he wasn 't looking forward for it. Marriage was a requisite of living on Cassiopeia since the population was very low and it worried the officiates who managed the planet. If the population dipped any lower, Cassiopeia would loose planetary funding and the richer citizens would be forced to live as the poorer ones did; off the land, and that was not going to happen. At least, not if the officiates had their way. So on a Tuesday, which always made Nikolaj question the name, the knock sounded off the wooden door to the three bedroom shanty he shared with his younger brothers and ... His face had screwed itself up but there was nothing else to be done. Not going down and agreeing to be married meant losing the family stead and heaping his brothers out on the street to die and he could never do that, no matter what. His family meant too much to him. The Government Building was a large stone building with a face of windows on the top floor and a door made of wood in the middle of the first floor and that was the door Nikolaj walked through. He knew that his entire life was going to be different the minute he exited, impossible for it not to be since he 'd be bringing home a wife, but he didn 't prepare for the feelings of absolute doom as the door swished close behind him. With no idea of where to head to, Nikolaj began to walk. His footsteps echoed off the marble that was the floor and he had to listen to other murmured voices, many of them at the Government Building for the same reason he was, though more likely than not, they were there on their on free will.
