Educating The Youth In The Kite Runner
Why is it that you go to school as a child while you are young, rather than as a more mature adult? Education is started at the age of three in most places
because children are the future. The next generation. That is why educating the youth is the most important task in achieving social injustice.
Educating the youth can be achieved in many different ways, one of them being through the teachers in classrooms. In The Kite Runner, by Khaled
Hosseini, you see Assef bullying Hassan about how he is a Hazara. Later Assef goes on to use the analogy of the Pashtuns being the Nazis, and says,
"Remember that if they had let Hitler finish what he had started, the world would be a better place" (40). By saying, "The world would be a better
place" it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One day in school Scout was learning about Hitler and how he was such a bad person. Their teacher explained that he had done all these bad things.
Later, Scout overhears her teacher at the courthouse speaking negatively about blacks. Scout being curious says to jem, "Jem, how can you hate
Hitler so bad an' then turn around and be ugly about folks right at home" (283). Throughout the court case Scout matures due to Atticus' teachings and
realizes the social injustice that occurs every day to the blacks in their own town. Scout is the only student that we saw realize this, and it is because
of Atticus. We see this when Scout says, "Ugly about folks right at home". When Scout says, "Turn around" it is Harper Lee explaining to us how the
townspeople are two–faced. However, not Atticus. He sticks by his morals the whole time. He took the Tom Robinson case, to teach his kids that there
are social injustices, and they need to be fixed.
In conclusion, the Education of children is the most vital way in gaining social justice and equality. Education however, can be taught in many different
ways including school, parents, and friends. When children are taught about the injustices in society, they come to an understanding that things need to
be done and changes need to be

Injustice And Social Injustices
Introduction
Though the concept of social injustice is universal in nature, the experience varies with each person. Factors like a person' race, or gender can further
influence the severity of the injustice; victims caught in the overlap between discriminations often go unrecognized by the law and society. Many
people recognize the names Michael Brown, Eric Garner, and Tamir Rice as African Americans who were murdered by local police. But names like
Michelle Cusseaux, Tanish Anderson, and Meagan Hockaday often receive less feedback even though they are also murdered African Americans. The
only distinction between the sets of names is gender. Even within racial injustice, discrimination is present between genders as some cases get national

In a publication titled 'Black Women in Academe', author Yolanda Moses describes how "isolation, invisibility, hostility, indifference, and a lack of
understanding of the Black women's experiences are all too often part of the climate Black women may face on campuses" (Moses, 1989). The
detrimental environment surrounding these women frequently results in sullenness, lack of social assertiveness, and belief that they are less competent
than male students. Even if time spent at an academic institution is minimal, with this kind of prejudice faced at an early age, any woman– black or
otherwise, would suffer the rest of their life. In response to the discrimination faced at universities, some have created programs to aid black students
and other minorities; these programs tend to generalize the needs of all its black students and do not fully support black women specifically.
Double–discrimination and its effects are not only seen in academe. Social injustice occurs in any situation where people are treated unequally and
includes discrimination and racism. For much of the twentieth century, crime and punishment have provided some of the most powerful symbols of
racial divide in America (Rosich, 2007). Generally tried in a white–dominated legal system, black victims often face harsher punishment, longer
sentences, and unfair trials. Rosich's research indicates that white Americans widely believe that people of

The Dangerous Act Of Loving Your Neighbor
Book Content
What is the stated or implied purpose for writing the book? What evidence does the author use to support the need for the book? "This book needed to
be written because..."
The introduction chapter in The Dangerous Act of Loving Your Neighbor was helpful for understanding the book's overall purpose. The purpose of
this book can be drawn from the example of little old Doris who showed exceptional grace and justice when we was unjustly exploited for money and
victimized. The author refers back to Doris' story throughout the whole book, helping us see the real like application. The real life application is why
this book needed to be written. While reading this book, internal changes should be happening; hence, the reflection questions after each important
section. I believe the author wrote this book because through his own experience, he came to know that there are deep injustices against us and against
others in our hearts. The healing can begin once we have identified those injustices, and repented.
What are the main points the book is attempting to get across? o "Human hearts form the seedbed from which injustice thrives." (pg.16) o We
misperceive so many of the realities around us. Our misperceptions derive from our experiences and environment. They are inevitable, but they are not
excusable. Our misperception of others brings about unauthorized judgment, draws distinction between 'us' and 'them', and ultimately fosters injustice
in our own hearts.

Research Paper On Freedom Of Speech
Kareem Thomas
Professor Milligan
English 101

Kneel for the Cause
The first amendment of the United States is Freedom of Speech. What exactly is freedom of speech? Freedom of speech is "Congress not
prohibiting the free exercise or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the
government for a redress of grievances". In the majorities eyes it means the people of the United States should have the right to express their
disapproval and speak out on social injustices. In the NFL today several major superstars have used their fame and staked their name on standing for
what they believe is right. Collin Kapernick the ex–49ner superstar quarter back is an example of an individual willing to stand up against injustices
not done to himself , but to be the symbol that social injustices today is not okay. His protest by kneeling on one knee and his fist balled into the air;
a symbol of pride and unity has paved the way for other athletes to follow his lead. "From big–city stadiums to small–town high school fields, those
broad stripes and bright stars are the expected musical preamble to our ballgames. Today the anthem is at the center of an angry national debate. Some
believe the melody means respect for the fallen among our military and police. Others believe it means the entirety of American experience" the (Brady,

Pale Fire By Vladimir Nabokov
Pale Fire has spawned a wide variety of interpretations and a large body of written criticism, which Finnish literary scholar Pekka Tammi estimated in
1995 as more than 80 studies.(Wiki) Although no "correct" interpretation exists, a strong case can be made for interpreting the novel in terms of
Kinbote's insanity. His mental decline, paired with his academic unfulfillment, sparked by harsh criticism by his colleagues leads him to murder John
Shade in order to obtain the author's most recent poem and redeem himself through its thoughtful commentary and analysis. This interpretation entails
that the world of Zembla is entirely fictional and the comically careless assassin Gradus is nothing more but an impersonation of Kinbote's delirious...

As the novel elaborates on Botkin's insanity, it begins to reveal more about his obsessive, and, at times aggressive qualities. Botkin describes his
disturbing tendency to spy after his beloved poet: "The view from one of my windows kept providing me with first–rate entertainment [...] From the
second story of my house the Shade's living–room window remained clearly visible so long as the branches of the deciduous trees between us were
still bare..."(p. 23) He proceeds to study the shade's household in a maniac – like way by placing a phone call in order to analyze Sybil Shade's
habits.(p. 23) Botkin describes shade's disappearance from his line of view as a "terror", brought upon him by the coming of the night; displaying the
level of obsession and predator – like behavior slowly building up inside him. Botkin's quick interaction with the instructor on page 24, following the
snide remark: "I contented myself on my way out with pulling Gerald Emerald's bow – tie loose with a deft jerk of my fingers as I passed by him"(p.
24) demonstrates his violent tendencies, bottled up inside, giving the reader reason to believe that Botkin's true violence is limitless.
Botkin has long seen John Shade as an object of admiration and potential redemption and justification in the academic world. However, it is not until

Essay Tess of the D'Urbervilles by Hardy
–1–
SAC Out come 2 – Literature
In "Tess of the D'Urbervilles" Hardy does expose the social injustices and double standards which prevail in the late nineteenth century.
These injustices and double standards are evident throughout the whole novel, and Tess, themain character, is the one who suffers them.
This becomes evident from the first page when Parson Tringham meets Jack Durbeyfield and refers to him as "Sir John". With his whimsical
comment, made from the safety of a secure social position, the Parson begins the events which start the destruction and downfall of the whole
Durbeyfield family.
Logically the fact that Tess's family and their "gentlefolk" relatives have the same descendents should mean that both sides of the ... Show more content

Not only this, it was a sin of which he too was guilty – they both had a premarital affair. This leads us to the hypocrisy in the different standards set for
men and women. True, this difference was common to the whole society, but Hardy does appear to be a pioneer in highlighting the injustice. At the end
of phase the fourth, Angel admits to plunging into "eight and fourty hours' dissipation with a stranger" (page 225). Tess's forgiveness is immediate. She
says: "Oh, Angel – I am almost glad – because now you can forgive me!" (Page 225)
In her simplicity she believes all will be well but that is not the case. Phase the fifth is titled The Woman Pays. Angel blames her for this very
simplicity. He is not willing to live with her and bring shame upon their future family. Angel can be forgiven with a word, but not Tess. As Hardy
points out "The woman pays".
This is not only shown between Tess and Angel or Alex but by most of the men throughout the book, starting with her father. When Jack Durbeyfield
gets drunk at The Pure Drop Tess is expected to do his work for him. While doing this she kills
Prince, which leads to her misfortunes at Trantridge. Tess not only has to work for her father when he is drunk, she is expected to cover for his
stupidity, as is her mother. An example of this is when Jack rides past the May dance, everyone assumes he is

Crowd Individuality Essay
It is human nature to acclimate to one's surroundings, but this instinct has created non–individualized activities amongst the public, leaving the
non–thought provoking state of mind of society (Orwell). The naive stay happy, tradition brings normality, and a lack of self–expression leaves the
mind at ease, for there is no one to reject it. Crowd mentality has driven society since the Stone Age, and throughout the course of history writers have
recorded such mentalities and behaviors loving and/or criticizing it. George Orwell is not the only author to critique society's forced state of being;
many others have an apparent disapproval and criticism for society in their writings as well. Each one reflects a different time in history and the... Show

There is quite blatantly a mental disconnection of a whole town and is far as to have one is even insulted for questioning it. Mark Twain is society's
biggest critique as his whole book Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is his disapproval of it. In one the many adventures, he stumbles across the
Grangerford's and the Sheperdson's feud, and he exposes their ignorance when Huck asked Buck why there was a feud. Buck responds with "I reckon
maybe – I don't know" (Twain 168) and eventually Huck witnesses the consequences of choosing to accept traditions without question and it ends in
many pointless deaths. One can see that the trend in blind tradition can end in unfortunate consequences. Huck's young friend was willing to die for
an aimless cause. When a little boy is embedded with a mentality to fight till death since he was born, something is morally wrong with the social
norms of their society. Another ordeal in the family feud in Huckleberry Finn was that if one chose to befriend a Sheperdson, they would be out
casted from the family and heavily ridiculed as if they committed a form of betrayal. For example, when Miss Sophia plotted to run away with a
Sheperdson, one could only imagine what would have happened to her if they had

A Reflection On Multicultural Learning Experience
Multicultural Learning Experience All people are unique and come from diverse backgrounds. Throughout, this paper I will be examining some of
my key identities as well as how these have impacted how I view the world and how this defines who I am today. I will do this by using the
RESPECTFUL model which identifies the factors which define a person; consequently, all the ideas brought up will not only be mine but based on a
more concrete understanding of humanity (Ivey, Ivey, & Zalaquett, 2014, pp. 18–19). Moreover, the purpose of this examination is to expand my
understanding of myself while also identifying some biases or challenges I may face due to my background or upbringing. Above all, my desire is this

The only way I can change in a way that benefits my calling is if I know what areas in myself need to be changed. Therefore, this examination will
be conducted by comparing myself to the key social work values and how I have or need to learn from them. Identity Religion and Spirituality The
first letter in the RESPECTFUL model is R and it represents religion and spirituality (Ivey et al., 2014, p. 26). Although I do not consider myself
religious, my faith and beliefs can be attributed to Christianity, a common religion throughout much of the world. These beliefs have had a
profound impact on how I grew up and have shaped the person I am today as well as the person I am becoming. Consequently, my personal values
and ideas are shaped by the teachings of Christianity. This is where I garnished my desire to help others and be a proponent for social wellbeing
of all. Moreover, in the teachings I hold dear to my heart, I observe the value placed on each individual person and believe they are loved by the
creator who desires the betterment of all, especially those who are marginalized or facing social injustice. It is also imperative for his followers to
work towards this end. Nonetheless, there have been controversies throughout my life corresponding to my personal faith and my desire to help others
and how I believe these two ideas relate to each other. Notably, when I was younger, I

Social Injustice In 'Hidden Intellectualism' By Colin...
There is no question that American culture has evolved over the years. Many citizens have become far more liberal than others, but it has become
widely apparent that strong cultural differences are still a point of debate. The idea is that every citizen possesses the same equal rights, yet in "Colin

As Christians today we are faced with many ethical issues living in our society. Every time we turn on the TV to watch the news, pick up a
newspaper and read the headlines, or read a magazine about world issues we can see situations happening in this world that challenge our morals and
ethics. It is our duty as Christians to know what we believe and where we stand so we can back up our beliefs and try to interact with this world as
morally correct as possible. There are some situations that we have no control over that appear ethically wrong to us and there is not much we can do if
anything at all. At the same time there are things that we can do to try and reach people in some situations. It is our job to know the difference and

I am not saying just go to war for any reason we see fit, but have it as a last resort, when the other person leaves us no choice. For example, Desert
Storm, we had to take action against Iraq and Sadam because he left us no choice. If everyone who was a Christian decided that war was wrong and
didn't fight, then we would have lost the war. As Christians, I believe it is our duty to try to avoid war, but when it become necessary we must take
action. Even though we might not desire to be out on the front lines with the people who are actually doing the killing and combat, we must support
our country. We can take roles in the army as non–combatance if it is necessary for us to actually go out to war, but whatever we do it is our duty to
our country to show support and be involved so we can make sure that the war is just for what is necessary and not taken out of hand. You see, if
we stay out of war then our country and way of living will be threatened all together, but most of us do not wish to go in headfirst and kill everyone
who opposes us. We just find a median where we can help control what is going on and seek the best possible outcome for the world in which we live in.
The next topic that we will discuss is the Christian's involvement in matters relating to the division of church and state and religious liberty. I believe

Speech On Racism In Sports
Without a doubt, we look at athletes today and from the past as if they are larger than life individuals. They show their personality through talent no
matter what they play; some are better than others, for example some can kick or throw. However, at the end of the day they all have a different
voice and a different story. People expect them to turn a blind eye to everyday events because of their status. People think of athletes as celebrities,
they say they do not go through the same struggles as everyday people. That statement is far from the truth when it pertains to the issue of racism.
Racism has been an unresolved problem for years whether it is in sports or athletes speaking for what they believe. Racism has had a big impact on
sports such as Germany hosting the olympics and cheating, N.B.A. owners thinking they rule over their players, and the hidden discrimination that
happens in locker rooms. Many times athletes have stood up for what they believed just to be shot down. Nowhere in their contracts does it state that
because they are professionals that they must compromise their freedom of speech. Whether it be refusing to meet with the president, speaking out on
racial injustices, or not standing for the national anthem, athletes have a strong voice in the fight against discrimination and other traumatic events. The
fight for equality in sports and throughout America is a process that includes multiple organizations, the reaction of authority figures, and

Literature's Unique Talent: The Bluest Eye, Night, Flowers...
Literature functions as a unique venue to communicate social injustices to society by letting the readers experience the bias treatment through words
and how the characters felt. This makes the readers connect and think more deeply about the injustices that are happening in the world today. In The
Bluest Eye, by Toni Morrison, Night, written by Elie Wiesel, and Flowers for Algernon, by Daniel Keyes, each author uses literary devices such as tone,
symbolism, and character to inform society of its injustices. However, each writer approaches the theme of social injustices differently with their
unique descriptions and styles. On the other hand, the authors also use imagery and theme in similar ways to emphasize the sufferings that ... Show

Prettier people are more praised than average people. This makes the ordinary people constantly doubt themselves and lower their self–confidence.
Pecola's character can be categorize as one of those average people, or as she refers to herself, one of the "ugly people." Morrison creates her
character with an abusive past, displaying multiple injustices through her. For example, the abuse that she suffers from society was due to her
self–belief that she was ugly, so instead of defending herself, she puts up with the social abuse. The author portrays the idea of being accepted by
society through whatever means will only destroy oneself in the end, as stated on page 158, "The damage done was total." In Night, by Elie Wiesel,
the author uses a frustrated tone to show how the injustice of the Holocaust impacted Eliezer. On page 67, Eliezer expresses his frustration towards God:
"Why, but why should I bless Him? In every fiber, I rebelled. Because He had had thousands of children burned in his pits? Because He kept six

Women 's Influence On Women
Advertising has been around since the 1850's when Volney B. Palmer opened the first advertising agency in Philadelphia. From the beginning of this
era, these ads have aided many businesses in promoting their products to the public but they don't only promote these specific products. These
advertisements promote what are thought to be social "norms" for women. They sell ideals for family, work, love, and the success that women are
allowed to have. With all of this, they aim to communicate how a woman should be, in order to be completely excepted into society without being
ridiculed for not following those social norms that these ads intend to implement. Today, "we are exposed to about 3,000 ads a day" (Heiss). Many ads

Also, a lot of ads advertise an "ideal" image for women in order to get men to love them, and for them to be happy. These false depictions on the size of
a women's body may promote low–self–esteem because mostly weight loss products are what is being targeted towards women. Because most of the
models used for the ads are relatively skinny, women want to be accepted and be beautiful like these models in the ads. Which is why "ads negatively
influence youth or women health factors by cultivating attitudes about dieting, nutrition, fitness and health that are inaccurate, distorted, or incomplete"
(Hobbs, Broder, Pope, Rowe). Ads promote wrong ways to diet which can result in illnesses or eating disorders because women are desperately
wanting to reach the "ideal" weight for what is considered beautiful. In my social analysis, I pointed out the issues on sexualitzation and false image
depiction of women in advertisements. There are some action plans that are being implemented in order to alleviate these injustices. In order to
diminish the sexualization of women, advertisers are being encouraged by many of their consumers to seek help on what women currently represent in
society, to evaluate their ads and depict women as human beings with brains and with rational will rather than implicating that women are just objects.
In order to alleviate the injustice of false body depiction on

Social Injustice In Executive Order 13769
Due to variance in opinions, people more often disagree than agree on social and political controversies. Social injustice occurs when these
disagreements lead not to civil discourse but instead the oppression of those with opposing ideas. President Donald Trump's new Executive Order
13769 is one of the most recent social injustices that has been caused due to his presidency. It has affected an estimated 90,000 people and has caused
huge protests worldwide (Kessler). With the use of unfair and religion based treatment that violates both the Constitution's establishment clause and the

There are no social injustices that go without affecting the public, and Executive Order 13769 has impacted many people not only in our nation, but
also in the periphery, in many different countries around the world. The victims of this social injustice are primarily those from the seven countries,
especially Muslims, but anyone who has put their faith in American idealism will experience the fallout from this destruction of our constitutional
values. When it comes to accepting refugees now, the White House is essentially prioritizing Christians over Muslims from the Middle East. In fact,
in an interview with the Christian broadcasting network a few days after the immigration ban was instated, Donald Trump claimed he would favor
Christian refugees as an exception to the executive order (Yulas). People with dual citizenship are being affected now as well by not being able to
travel freely outside the country without worry they may not be allowed to return. A specific victim of this injustice, Thon Maker, a rookie on the

now concerned with Maker's ability to travel with his team to Toronto for future games (Reports). The immigration limitation not only affects people

The Theory That Best Explains Jimmy 's Life On A Micro Level
Micro Level The theory that best explains Jimmy's life on a micro level, is Resiliency theory. Resilience is described as "the capacity of a dynamic
system to adapt successfully to disturbances that threaten the viability, the function, or the development of that system" (Southwick, Bonanno, Masten,
Panter–Brick & Yehuda, 2014, p.4). This means that resilience can be shown by the person's capacity to adjust himself to new and difficult situations.
In Jimmy's case, during his life, he had to adapt himself to different environmental conditions.
Jimmy was raised in Japan, but he came back to the United States. That means he had to experience a new culture and traditions. Jimmy lost his family
at some point in his life, therefore, he had

Economic Injustice During The Middle East And South Africa...
Economic Injustice In Education System Abstract This paper is presented with the empirical investigation of the inequality of education opportunities,
that are limitless, effected by economic injustice throughout the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The inequality of opportunities, plays a
significant role in the lack of educational achievements in the Middle East and MENA countries. Gender equality, poverty, and community can be
significant reason on why younger adults are not given the opportunity for higher education or education overall. Economic injustice in education, are
due to the fact that many citizens can 't afford to attend high school or college. Due to this, it has resulted in a high percentage of illiteracy in the

education system in the Middle East. Women are not expected to go to school or make it to a higher level of education, but instead they are expected
to stay home and tend to their families. In the Middle East, religious prejudices often prevent girls from attending school as well. Economic injustice

A True Story and How it Addresses the Rhetoric of Race
As one of the great American authors, Mark Twain is recognized for his unique contributions as a writer, one of them being his involvements in the

Twain's unique way of addressing racial legacies of the Civil War and Reconstruction through literature.
Twain's short story which is titled in full as "A True Story, Repeated Word for Word as I heard it" is a tale about Aunt Rachel, an African

Van Jones The Economic Injustice Of Plastic Summary
I recently viewed a video on "The economic injustice of plastic" by Van Jones. The film started off by talking about the fact that the petrochemical
corporations use oil and concentrate it into plastic; which in turn kills individuals. Van Jones discusses the demise of people who are underprivileged
because they can only manage to pay for the products that are hazardous to them. Additionally, poverty–stricken people also assume the burden to
dispose of plastic bottles and containers. Subsequently, Jones lectures about how when people recycle plastic bottles they wind up on boats that travel
to developing countries; however, most often, China; and in closing stages, the plastic is burned; releasing poisonous chemicals which are exceedingly

Social Group And My Micro Community
Joe Buscaino, a councilman of Los Angeles, said, "A community of faith has come together to stand for peace and justice, and here we are. Hundreds
of Wilmington Residents coming together to stand together as a community to say, 'enough is enough, basta!'". Buscaino said this because
Wilmington was in a time of despair. The gang members murdered two teenagers and the Wilmington Residents have had enough with the act of
violence. In the past, Wilmington has gone through multiple killings a day until the homicide of two people. They all decided to walk for peace and
justice because people, human beings do not deserve to be killed for revenge or retaliation. This demonstrates the partial of my community.
Wilmington faces two main concepts: education and environment. I identify myself in many ways based on my community, my social group and my
micro community. These factors have shaped me to the person I am today. Today, I live in a small city that is known as the "Heart of the Harbor",
Wilmington. According to "Early Views ofSan Pedro and Wilmington", Phineas Banning procured the 640 acres of land that would get to be
Wilmington. The 21–mile railroad was built in the late 1860's by Banning and the new railroad drastically decreased the cost of transporting goods to
and from San Pedro ("Early Views of San Pedro and Wilmington"). Without Banning's vision and tenacity, the City ofLos Angeles the way everybody
knows it, would not exist.
Since then, the population has been growing

Social Work Photography Essay
The role of photography in the fight for social justice It always takes a single moment, a single instant, and a single flash to capture a photograph that
has the potential of letting the world know how it looks like and the issues that it has to address (Collins, 2014). Most of the issues that are
experienced in the world like having long years of violence between war–torn countries, a decade of devastating famine can all be seen and captured
using a single camera click (Kennedy, 2016). After a photo has been shot, what follows is the process of publishing that can be done in different
media outlets like the magazines, newspapers, television, websites, and brochures (Peres, 2007). In most cases, social injustices photographs tend to
expose the injustices that are experienced in different regions of the world and they may be ignored at some point (Collins, 2014). The purpose of

The rise in the demand for social work photography saw a rise in the number of different organizations engaging various photographers to take photos
and document the issues to which their respective programs catered (Peres, 2007). Some of the organizations that contributed greatly towards this were
the Children's Aid Society, the New York City's Department of Tenement Housing and the Charity Organization Society. In hiring the photographers,
these organizations strongly believed that if they printed the images on different medias and pass the information to the concerned bodies, then
appropriate actions would be taken and the issues identified through the photo would be solved appropriately (Peres,

Themes Of Poem In Born A Crime By Trevor Noah
In Born A Crime, Trevor Noah [uses] a narrative writing style and a lighthearted tone when [retelling] the tangled racism integrated in his childhood
experience. The book progresses in a mostly linear fashion, beginning with a childhood anecdote and his unlawful birth, and ending with the horrifying
attempted murder of his mother. In the second chapter, Noah explains that as "a half–white, half–black child who violated any number of laws, statutes,
and regulations–––I was born a crime." Not only does the statement exploit the personal hatred inflicted upon Noah for simply existing, but also
exposes the effect of racism on innocence. As the book progresses, Noah shares specific anecdotes and experiences to project to the reader the impact of

Because life in South Africa differs so drastically from life in America, understanding the other side's perspective becomes challenging. In the interest
of making the South African concepts understandable, Noah makes connections to Western World ideas such as "Planet of the Apes" and "Hollywood"
and includes how "people would say [it] in America" for clarity (120–121). Consequently, the book forms a bridge between South African and
American culture to demonstrate that many of the world's problems are one in the same. For example, at one point in the book, Noah gets pulled
over, and when asked if he knows why, Noah correctly responds, "'Because you're a policeman and I'm a black person?'" (229). Since Americans
have only seen Noah as a successful comedian, the book allows them to understand the hardships, struggles, and efforts that shaped him. In order to
successfully connect with such a distant audience, Noah takes advantage of both the reader's logic and emotions. First, Noah uses rationale to
explain the existence of social problems among people of color. He coins the term "the black tax" to point out that "so many black families spend all
of their time trying to fix the problems of the past" (66). Backed with historical facts about apartheid, Noah's explanation of the social injustices helps
the audience understand the concept of privilege. Moreover, Noah appeals to the reader's emotions by providing vivid narrations of such injustices.
While Noah's mother took him to "ice rinks and drive–ins and suburbs" people within their community thought she was crazy because those were "the
things of white people" (

Freedom Is Not Free Essay
Freedom is not Free
"Open your eyes, look within. Are you satisfied with the life you 're living?" (Bob Marley) This is a question that is at the forefront of the minds of so
many people today. Similarly, the main character Riel is playing with the demons of that question throughout the story. He faces many questions,
decisions, and facts that he must come to terms with, or explore himself through. We first meet our characters while they're high on MDMA. They are
4 roommates, Kelly, Erika, Riel, and Frances. The Non–Babylonians is about the unattainable idea of freedom and equality and shows that by attacking

The words "freedom" and "equality" have different meanings to different people. Throughout the story, the protagonist Riel, a college student who is
of mixed race, is continuously trying to break free from the chains that are holding him to conformity, those chains being his life in Port Corbus.
Where there was an extreme lack in diversity, "Everyone in his family was white; everyone he knew in Port Corbus was white. On the issue of
illegal aliens, at least, all the people in Riel's life thought alike." (Compton 238). To him, living this way was not living at all as he had much interest
in social issues, diversity, and influential people who had spoken out about social injustices and racial inequality such as Malcolm X, and his favorite
musical artist M.C. Kaaba. While he was living in Port Corbus, he felt like a flightless bird which is why when college came around he felt free, and
he embraced it –hard. Freedom and equality are ideals that people constantly strive for, but the uncertainty in their obtainability make it very difficulty
to stay on course and soon, it becomes about chasing a feeling. "The coming semester would be make or break because Riel was on academic
probation. The apartment, friends, clubs, and drugs had eclipsed everything else somehow." (Compton 239). Even though

My View Of Economic Injustices
Andrea Jefferson: I chose to write this draft because after reviewing each core reading and comparing its material, I realized my view of economic
injustices was very clouded. I was so captured by Nick Hanauer's TED conference I completely forgot about any other issues concerning problems in
our economy. My target audience I am trying to reach is the struggling middle–class Americans who may be confused about what is putting the middle
class in an unfavorable position economically. By writing this essay, I was hoping to sway the readers with facts and possibly open their minds to
interpret and analyze different perspectives when it comes to the issues our middle class faces.

Republicans praise the middle class but preach that giving the wealthy tax breaks will give us all relief in return. Which leads us all to ask, what is the
true cause of middle–class suffering? In this analysis, I have selected "The Phantom Menace: What War on the Middle Class" by Clive Crook and "A
TED Talk on Income Inequality" by Nick Hanauer for comparison. These readings place focus on issues within the middle class in America. Hanauer
appears to think that low wages and unfair taxation are the main culprit of middle–class struggle. However, Clive Crook feels strongly that these
economic inequities are so small compared to other growing problems for the middle class. Nick Hanauer holds a valid point about income
inequality being an important issue, but I am not convinced it is the largest problem the middle class faces. Clive Crook's article leads me to believe
a stifling combination of broken social systems and having a class–based system in general are more troubling for Middle–Class America than
economic inequality itself.
Nick Hanauer is a self–proclaimed capitalist. In his live conference "A TED Talk on Income Inequality", he speaks to the audience about tax policy
and wages. He believes large tax cuts on the upper class and their majority hold of America's shared income are significantly hurting middle–class
families. He feels that these issues are causing a decline in consumerism, leaving a poor economy and capitalists

Youth Reflection Paper
Even in 2017 social injustice is very real. Many before have taken measures against this issue, but it's still there. Over the past couple of week's, I've
taken notice to the events that have been going on in the world. While keeping the question how can I change that in mind. It occurred to me that
many of the oppressors committing social injustices were victims themselves. They were not properly educated when they were younger. Growing up
thinking something is right your whole life is hard to change. So, I knew that's where I would start. The youth is the future and should be an
improvement from the previous generation. I've been fortunate enough to experience different cultures, and people my whole life. From going to
Laotian New Year, to participating in Muslim community programs, etc. the list goes on. Also, I have Black, White, Indian, and; Asian, Arabic,
Hispanic, and Native American friends. Who I learn from every day. So, how do I give others the education and lessons that I've been taught? While I
was doing my government homework about labor unions it hit me! The definition of a union is, an organized association of workers formed to protect
and further their rights and interests. What better way to promote social injustice then to have an organization of likeminded, diverse individuals.
Directed at the youth of the world, this organization would be comprised of teens. Through my various connections I would gather a group of

Intercultural Knowledge
Social injustice involves oppression, privilege, prejudice, and discrimination. Oppression occurs when social forces tend to hold people down and
block their pursuit of a good life. (Hart, 2014a). According to Johnson, "Oppression results from the social relationship between privileged and
oppressed categories, which makes it possible for individuals to vary in their personal experience of being oppressed" (2006, p. 38). In order to have
the experience of being oppressed, it is necessary to belong to an oppressed category (Johnson, 2006, p. 38). Next, privilege is when one group has

128). Another aspect of social injustice is prejudice. It occurs when we judge a person based only on stereotypes about them, rather than a rational
evaluation of the facts available to us (Hart, 2014c). Prejudice is an attitude and can have both negative and positive feelings associated with it. It
involves both ideas and feelings and an example of the involvement of ideas and feelings would be the idea that whites are superior to people of color,
and the negative feelings they associate with that assumption (Johnson, 2006, p. 54). Discrimination is another part of social injustice where the unfair
treatment of people is based on some social characteristic where prejudice is put into action. Discrimination can be either blatant, where it involves
hate crimes or physical aggression, or subtle where avoidance, exclusion, or rejection is used as a tactic (Hart 2014c). It is connected to how we
think and feel about people, and those assumptions or stereotypes about a person or a group can play a major role in discrimination (Johnson, 2006, p.
54).
Media plays a big role in the stereotypes we assign to a particular group and whether those words used to describe that group are positive or negative.
My understanding of these concepts of social injustice has changed over the semester in that I never consciously noticed how much of an impact the
media plays on teaching these stereotypes and

about a black man whom is accused of forcing himself on a white girl and sexually assaulting her. A white attorney who does not measure people by he
color of their skin or social economic status represents him. The characters represent the stereotypes of small town southern inhabitance, with the mind
of pre–civil rights culture. My impression is we continue in this time period to have social injustice and racism, not to the degree portrayed in the play

Scholarly Evaluation:
Lee (2007) in chapters 2, 8 and 10 examined the themes: advancing social justice by challenging socioeconomic disadvantage; promoting ethnic/racial
equality through empowerment based counseling; and social justice and counseling ethics. Having a limited access to adequate funding inevitably
places individuals' lives and future into an uncomfortable position where they have fewer choices and access to benefits which can allow them to
become frustrated. Ethnic minorities have a higher level of poverty existing among them when compared to other ethnic counterparts. According to the
2002–2003 U.S. statistics, children and women are at a higher risk than men of being in poverty where women in comparison to males are at a
disadvantage in terms of earnings with their wage constituting 76% of the average wage for males. Consequently, "being an ethnic minority, being
female, or being a child puts one at greater than average risk of living in poverty" (p. 17). Poverty has also been found to be correlated with several
health and mental health conditions.
Similarly, individuals of lower socioeconomic status experience higher rates of morbidity and mortality in almost all disease categories when compared

Public Figures Should Be Role Models
On the surface, celebrities may not seem like the type of people children and teens should position as role models. This is a result of some of the
bad personal choices the media displays to the public. But below the surface, surpassing all of the negative matter that the media chooses to display,
celebrities and public figures influence teens in ways that other people can not. Almost all celebrities have worked hard for their success and that is a
lesson children should learn. Public figures should be considered role models because they inspire teens through their hard work and encourage kids to
have a positive voice in society.
Celebrities inspire children through their diligence and perseverance leading up to their careers. In "Why athletes should never be role models for
kids," the author argues, "Teach your kids to enjoy athletes for their work on the field because there is nothing wrong with hero–worshipping from that
standpoint"(Mendes). Although certain celebrities act inappropriately through their personal decisions, they are good examples of how hard work and
diligence pays off in the long run. It is important for children and teens to know that it's alright to look up to a successful celebrity based on their career
choices because they did have to work hard to get where they are. But, it is also essential for parents to educate their children on what kind of people
their kids should look up to or what aspects of a certain celebrity is a good example for them

Just Society For The Common Good
What does it mean to form a more just society for the common good? I will be examining Dr. Martin Luther King's "Letter from a Birmingham Jail,"
as well as Gustavo Gutierrez's essay, "The Option for the Poor Arises from Love of Christ." Dr. King examines the facets of social injustice through a
letter that he wrote while imprisoned for a nonviolent public protest. King's letter is in response to a letter from eight fellow clergymen. In the letter
from the clergymen they criticize King's due process in seeking justice and his social injustice movement, so King responds with what I believe to be
one of the greatest examples of a man who personifies what it means to form a more just society for the common good. He does not only speak on
his behalf, but he speaks out all of humanity. Likewise, Gustavo Gutierrez examines specifically the poor in a similar manner, but believes that these
"poor" people have found the ultimate meaning in life and we should all seek to have that same spiritual connection to God, for it would make our
society a better place. The preferential option for the poor is seeking a deeper connection to God by bringing justice to light. Gutierrez and Dr. King
both exemplify men who have truly set an example on how to form a more just society for the common good of humanity. Dr. King begins his letter
deliberately and without emotion, he addresses their first criticism of him, which is him being an outsider and that he has no place in Birmingham.

Social Injustice In To Kill A Mockingbird
Justice has long been considered something that is important to the success of a society. However justice in itself is something that is hard to
achieve. Recently in the news, a story has arisen regarding a father who was not able to afford a lawyer, due to this he was not able to see his kids for
five years. This is what some people would call political injustice, a case in which someone's given rights have been ignored. This is very common
despite people saying that justice should be given to all people. Social injustice is a case in which people are affected by less government and law
related issues, including, environmental rights, civil rights, and an access to education. This can be also seen clearly in "To Kill A Mockingbird" by
Harper Lee. Through the society that Harper Lee portrays in her novel she suggests that justice is something worth fighting for. Examples of both
social and polГtical injustice becomes apparent.
Social injustice is a common theme throughout the novel. This can appear in cases of stereotypes. Many people in the town of Maycomb have families
that are over generalized. Such as the Cunninghams, who "never took anything they can't pay back." (Lee 26). However some of these stereotypes are
very inaccurate. For instance, Walter Cunningham went to dinner with the Finches, this was something that he could not pay back, but he did it
anyway. Or when Scout was able to help snap Mr.Cunningham back to reality when he was trying to intimidate Atticus.

Social Injustice in Roundhouse
Lives for Native Americans on reservations have never quite been easy. There are many struggles that most outsiders are completely oblivious about.
In her book The Roundhouse, Louise Erdrich brings those problems to light. She gives her readers a feel of what it is like to be Native American by
illustrating the struggles through the life of Joe, a 13–year–old Native American boy living on a North Dakota reservation. This book explores an
avenue of advocacy against social injustices. The most observable plight Joe suffers is figuring out how to deal with the injustice acted against his

Because he is too young to fully understand all the factors of the situation, Joe teeters between taking the law into his own hands and trusting his father

In addition to the issues within the family, the crime committed against mother has cause inner turmoil for Joe. He is faced with the feelings of

It's not the fact that we did not know what to say, but I think it was the fear of the unknown, the fear that something was different then what we had
known our whole lives. That's why I think the European governors treated the indigenous people the way they did due to the unknown. What is foreign
to us is one of the scariest things that is out there, especially something we think that might over power us. This does not give them the right to think
the way that they did, that the indigenous people were beast–like and deserved to be enslaved. The one scene in the movie made my heart ache when
Cabeza stated, "A herring can be taught to sing." Yes, the indigenous people had a different way of life. They hunted for their own food shown in
the scene where they were trying to get Rodrigo to kill the pig, they built their own houses, and yes, they wore different clothing. These are all
things that come from being a part of a different culture it does not make anyone less human. We need to take a lesson from the movie and stand up
and realize that people are people no matter how different. This leads the movie to another good point that social injustice still happens in everyday

The Reflection Of The Fight For Social Justice
Social justice centers upon the standards of fairness, equality, admiration of diversity, and the distribution of rights that cover all people. Social justice
infers that all people must have equal rights and opportunities, no matter their ethnicity, religion, or social/economic status. During the 1800s, people
from all walks of life had to deal with some type of social injustice. Whether that be discrimination against a particular race, slavery, or inequality.
Although many social injustices have diminished over time, it is disappointing to say, that the world is still suffers from injustices such as poverty,
inequality, etc. To achievesocial justice, I believe we the people must inquire about what injustice is active and how it is affecting our community.
With that being said, we need to educate those who are not aware of the injustices that we are still suffering from –both locally and globally. Also as
individuals, we can show love to those of other ethnicities, religions, cultures and other backgrounds that may differ from our own. We as a nation must
come together and partake in the fight for social justice. To start, in order to gain social justice, we must first educate ourselves on the injustice so we
may be able to accurately inform others on the issue. The community cannot make a positive impact unless we are knowledgeable of the problem. The
best way to achieve this goal is by conducting research, observance of our community and knowing the stats of

Kettle Bottom : The Consequences Of Racial Injustices In...
The 1920s were a time of social injustices, primarily revolving around racial discrimination. With the revival of the Ku Klux Klan only a few short
years before, African Americans lived in fear of lynching and other forms of racism during this period. This form of social injustice was
widespread and known by all in the United States, but there was another issue during this time that was not as well known. The West Virginia
mine wars had begun in 1920 due to the injustices that the miners had faced for decades. Miniscule wages and dangerous work conditions were
only a few of the hardships that the miners had to face. The author of the book Kettle Bottom, Diane Gilliam Fisher, was able to capture these
hardships perfectly in her poetry to help shine light on the terrible treatment and the resulting consequences that the miners and their families
received during this time. Many of her poems, such as, "Dear Diary," "Pearlie Tells What Happened at School," and "Walter and His Mama Talk
about Angels," show the negative impact that growing up during this period of violence and injustice had had on the miners' children. Often,
children who are raised during a time of injustice don't always see their misfortune due to the fact that their peers are also experiencing the same
hardship and do not know any better. This was the case for young Edith Mae who is the narrator of Fisher's poem, "Dear Diary." Edith Mae had lived

Non Systemic Testimonial Injustice By Miranda Fricker
Non–systemic Testimonial Injustice In Testimonial Injustice by Miranda Fricker, she identifies that there are systemic testimonial injustices and they
relate to a common prejudice towards the speaker. Fricker uses the term testimonial injustice, which is an injustice to someone whom is unjustly
perceived by others to have less knowledge than he/she actually has. An example of a systemic testimonial injustice would be the accent of a speaker,
causing the speaker to receive a credibility deficit. The speaker is wronged in his/her knowledge as a result of the prejudice employed against him/her.
However, Fricker did not include an exhaustive enough list of testimonial injustices. More specifically, I argue that Fricker overlooked a... Show more

An example of a credibility deficit would be a professor at a university receiving less credibility and respect of his knowledge due to his accent. His
accent could lead the students to believe he isn't capable to be someone who holds much knowledge. The students doing so wrongs the professor,
and he is receiving testimonial injustice. This type of testimonial injustice is systemic and not justified as the professor is assumed to have this job
because he is properly qualified for the position. This example is systemic because it contains a connection with a common prejudice that occurs
often in society. People with accents often face prejudice and receive a credibility deficit as a result. According to Fricker, testimonial injustices

example Fricker uses of active identity power is a man silencing a woman with a joke about her in The Talented Mr. Ripley. There are two types of
operations of power discussed by Fricker. An example of passive identity power is a woman being silenced simply because she is a woman and

Educating The Youth In The Kite Runner

  • 1. Educating The Youth In The Kite Runner Why is it that you go to school as a child while you are young, rather than as a more mature adult? Education is started at the age of three in most places because children are the future. The next generation. That is why educating the youth is the most important task in achieving social injustice. Educating the youth can be achieved in many different ways, one of them being through the teachers in classrooms. In The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini, you see Assef bullying Hassan about how he is a Hazara. Later Assef goes on to use the analogy of the Pashtuns being the Nazis, and says, "Remember that if they had let Hitler finish what he had started, the world would be a better place" (40). By saying, "The world would be a better place" it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One day in school Scout was learning about Hitler and how he was such a bad person. Their teacher explained that he had done all these bad things. Later, Scout overhears her teacher at the courthouse speaking negatively about blacks. Scout being curious says to jem, "Jem, how can you hate Hitler so bad an' then turn around and be ugly about folks right at home" (283). Throughout the court case Scout matures due to Atticus' teachings and realizes the social injustice that occurs every day to the blacks in their own town. Scout is the only student that we saw realize this, and it is because of Atticus. We see this when Scout says, "Ugly about folks right at home". When Scout says, "Turn around" it is Harper Lee explaining to us how the townspeople are two–faced. However, not Atticus. He sticks by his morals the whole time. He took the Tom Robinson case, to teach his kids that there are social injustices, and they need to be fixed. In conclusion, the Education of children is the most vital way in gaining social justice and equality. Education however, can be taught in many different ways including school, parents, and friends. When children are taught about the injustices in society, they come to an understanding that things need to be done and changes need to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Injustice And Social Injustices Introduction Though the concept of social injustice is universal in nature, the experience varies with each person. Factors like a person' race, or gender can further influence the severity of the injustice; victims caught in the overlap between discriminations often go unrecognized by the law and society. Many people recognize the names Michael Brown, Eric Garner, and Tamir Rice as African Americans who were murdered by local police. But names like Michelle Cusseaux, Tanish Anderson, and Meagan Hockaday often receive less feedback even though they are also murdered African Americans. The only distinction between the sets of names is gender. Even within racial injustice, discrimination is present between genders as some cases get national ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a publication titled 'Black Women in Academe', author Yolanda Moses describes how "isolation, invisibility, hostility, indifference, and a lack of understanding of the Black women's experiences are all too often part of the climate Black women may face on campuses" (Moses, 1989). The detrimental environment surrounding these women frequently results in sullenness, lack of social assertiveness, and belief that they are less competent than male students. Even if time spent at an academic institution is minimal, with this kind of prejudice faced at an early age, any woman– black or otherwise, would suffer the rest of their life. In response to the discrimination faced at universities, some have created programs to aid black students and other minorities; these programs tend to generalize the needs of all its black students and do not fully support black women specifically. Double–discrimination and its effects are not only seen in academe. Social injustice occurs in any situation where people are treated unequally and includes discrimination and racism. For much of the twentieth century, crime and punishment have provided some of the most powerful symbols of racial divide in America (Rosich, 2007). Generally tried in a white–dominated legal system, black victims often face harsher punishment, longer sentences, and unfair trials. Rosich's research indicates that white Americans widely believe that people of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Dangerous Act Of Loving Your Neighbor Book Content What is the stated or implied purpose for writing the book? What evidence does the author use to support the need for the book? "This book needed to be written because..." The introduction chapter in The Dangerous Act of Loving Your Neighbor was helpful for understanding the book's overall purpose. The purpose of this book can be drawn from the example of little old Doris who showed exceptional grace and justice when we was unjustly exploited for money and victimized. The author refers back to Doris' story throughout the whole book, helping us see the real like application. The real life application is why this book needed to be written. While reading this book, internal changes should be happening; hence, the reflection questions after each important section. I believe the author wrote this book because through his own experience, he came to know that there are deep injustices against us and against others in our hearts. The healing can begin once we have identified those injustices, and repented. What are the main points the book is attempting to get across? o "Human hearts form the seedbed from which injustice thrives." (pg.16) o We misperceive so many of the realities around us. Our misperceptions derive from our experiences and environment. They are inevitable, but they are not excusable. Our misperception of others brings about unauthorized judgment, draws distinction between 'us' and 'them', and ultimately fosters injustice in our own hearts. o ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Research Paper On Freedom Of Speech Kareem Thomas Professor Milligan English 101 21 November 2017 Kneel for the Cause The first amendment of the United States is Freedom of Speech. What exactly is freedom of speech? Freedom of speech is "Congress not prohibiting the free exercise or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances". In the majorities eyes it means the people of the United States should have the right to express their disapproval and speak out on social injustices. In the NFL today several major superstars have used their fame and staked their name on standing for what they believe is right. Collin Kapernick the ex–49ner superstar quarter back is an example of an individual willing to stand up against injustices not done to himself , but to be the symbol that social injustices today is not okay. His protest by kneeling on one knee and his fist balled into the air; a symbol of pride and unity has paved the way for other athletes to follow his lead. "From big–city stadiums to small–town high school fields, those broad stripes and bright stars are the expected musical preamble to our ballgames. Today the anthem is at the center of an angry national debate. Some believe the melody means respect for the fallen among our military and police. Others believe it means the entirety of American experience" the (Brady, 1). The president of the United States Donald Trump wants to force NFL owners to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Pale Fire By Vladimir Nabokov Pale Fire has spawned a wide variety of interpretations and a large body of written criticism, which Finnish literary scholar Pekka Tammi estimated in 1995 as more than 80 studies.(Wiki) Although no "correct" interpretation exists, a strong case can be made for interpreting the novel in terms of Kinbote's insanity. His mental decline, paired with his academic unfulfillment, sparked by harsh criticism by his colleagues leads him to murder John Shade in order to obtain the author's most recent poem and redeem himself through its thoughtful commentary and analysis. This interpretation entails that the world of Zembla is entirely fictional and the comically careless assassin Gradus is nothing more but an impersonation of Kinbote's delirious... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the novel elaborates on Botkin's insanity, it begins to reveal more about his obsessive, and, at times aggressive qualities. Botkin describes his disturbing tendency to spy after his beloved poet: "The view from one of my windows kept providing me with first–rate entertainment [...] From the second story of my house the Shade's living–room window remained clearly visible so long as the branches of the deciduous trees between us were still bare..."(p. 23) He proceeds to study the shade's household in a maniac – like way by placing a phone call in order to analyze Sybil Shade's habits.(p. 23) Botkin describes shade's disappearance from his line of view as a "terror", brought upon him by the coming of the night; displaying the level of obsession and predator – like behavior slowly building up inside him. Botkin's quick interaction with the instructor on page 24, following the snide remark: "I contented myself on my way out with pulling Gerald Emerald's bow – tie loose with a deft jerk of my fingers as I passed by him"(p. 24) demonstrates his violent tendencies, bottled up inside, giving the reader reason to believe that Botkin's true violence is limitless. Botkin has long seen John Shade as an object of admiration and potential redemption and justification in the academic world. However, it is not until the introduction of ... • 6. Essay Tess of the D'Urbervilles by Hardy –1– SAC Out come 2 – Literature In "Tess of the D'Urbervilles" Hardy does expose the social injustices and double standards which prevail in the late nineteenth century. These injustices and double standards are evident throughout the whole novel, and Tess, themain character, is the one who suffers them. This becomes evident from the first page when Parson Tringham meets Jack Durbeyfield and refers to him as "Sir John". With his whimsical comment, made from the safety of a secure social position, the Parson begins the events which start the destruction and downfall of the whole Durbeyfield family. Logically the fact that Tess's family and their "gentlefolk" relatives have the same descendents should mean that both sides of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only this, it was a sin of which he too was guilty – they both had a premarital affair. This leads us to the hypocrisy in the different standards set for men and women. True, this difference was common to the whole society, but Hardy does appear to be a pioneer in highlighting the injustice. At the end of phase the fourth, Angel admits to plunging into "eight and fourty hours' dissipation with a stranger" (page 225). Tess's forgiveness is immediate. She says: "Oh, Angel – I am almost glad – because now you can forgive me!" (Page 225) In her simplicity she believes all will be well but that is not the case. Phase the fifth is titled The Woman Pays. Angel blames her for this very simplicity. He is not willing to live with her and bring shame upon their future family. Angel can be forgiven with a word, but not Tess. As Hardy points out "The woman pays". This is not only shown between Tess and Angel or Alex but by most of the men throughout the book, starting with her father. When Jack Durbeyfield gets drunk at The Pure Drop Tess is expected to do his work for him. While doing this she kills Prince, which leads to her misfortunes at Trantridge. Tess not only has to work for her father when he is drunk, she is expected to cover for his stupidity, as is her mother. An example of this is when Jack rides past the May dance, everyone assumes he is

Crowd Individuality Essay It is human nature to acclimate to one's surroundings, but this instinct has created non–individualized activities amongst the public, leaving the non–thought provoking state of mind of society (Orwell). The naive stay happy, tradition brings normality, and a lack of self–expression leaves the mind at ease, for there is no one to reject it. Crowd mentality has driven society since the Stone Age, and throughout the course of history writers have recorded such mentalities and behaviors loving and/or criticizing it. George Orwell is not the only author to critique society's forced state of being; many others have an apparent disapproval and criticism for society in their writings as well. Each one reflects a different time in history and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is quite blatantly a mental disconnection of a whole town and is far as to have one is even insulted for questioning it. Mark Twain is society's biggest critique as his whole book Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is his disapproval of it. In one the many adventures, he stumbles across the Grangerford's and the Sheperdson's feud, and he exposes their ignorance when Huck asked Buck why there was a feud. Buck responds with "I reckon maybe – I don't know" (Twain 168) and eventually Huck witnesses the consequences of choosing to accept traditions without question and it ends in many pointless deaths. One can see that the trend in blind tradition can end in unfortunate consequences. Huck's young friend was willing to die for an aimless cause. When a little boy is embedded with a mentality to fight till death since he was born, something is morally wrong with the social norms of their society. Another ordeal in the family feud in Huckleberry Finn was that if one chose to befriend a Sheperdson, they would be out casted from the family and heavily ridiculed as if they committed a form of betrayal. For example, when Miss Sophia plotted to run away with a Sheperdson, one could only imagine what would have happened to her if they had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout, this paper I will be examining some of my key identities as well as how these have impacted how I view the world and how this defines who I am today. I will do this by using the RESPECTFUL model which identifies the factors which define a person; consequently, all the ideas brought up will not only be mine but based on a more concrete understanding of humanity (Ivey, Ivey, & Zalaquett, 2014, pp. 18–19). Above all, my desire is this examination will allow me to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only way I can change in a way that benefits my calling is if I know what areas in myself need to be changed. Therefore, this examination will be conducted by comparing myself to the key social work values and how I have or need to learn from them. Identity Religion and Spirituality The first letter in the RESPECTFUL model is R and it represents religion and spirituality (Ivey et al., 2014, p. 26). Although I do not consider myself religious, my faith and beliefs can be attributed to Christianity, a common religion throughout much of the world. These beliefs have had a profound impact on how I grew up and have shaped the person I am today as well as the person I am becoming. Consequently, my personal values and ideas are shaped by the teachings of Christianity. This is where I garnished my desire to help others and be a proponent for social wellbeing of all. Moreover, in the teachings I hold dear to my heart, I observe the value placed on each individual person and believe they are loved by the creator who desires the betterment of all, especially those who are marginalized or facing social injustice. • 10. Social Injustice In 'Hidden Intellectualism' By Colin... There is no question that American culture has evolved over the years. Many citizens have become far more liberal than others, but it has become widely apparent that strong cultural differences are still a point of debate. The idea is that every citizen possesses the same equal rights, yet in "Colin Kaepernick and the question of who gets to be called a 'Patriot', Wesley Morris portrays how Kaepernick calls attention to social injustice in a televised national sport. Every time we turn on the TV to watch the news, pick up a newspaper and read the headlines, or read a magazine about world issues we can see situations happening in this world that challenge our morals and ethics. It is our duty as Christians to know what we believe and where we stand so we can back up our beliefs and try to interact with this world as morally correct as possible. There are some situations that we have no control over that appear ethically wrong to us and there is not much we can do if anything at all. For example, Desert Storm, we had to take action against Iraq and Sadam because he left us no choice. If everyone who was a Christian decided that war was wrong and didn't fight, then we would have lost the war. As Christians, I believe it is our duty to try to avoid war, but when it become necessary we must take action. Even though we might not desire to be out on the front lines with the people who are actually doing the killing and combat, we must support our country. We can take roles in the army as non–combatance if it is necessary for us to actually go out to war, but whatever we do it is our duty to our country to show support and be involved so we can make sure that the war is just for what is necessary and not taken out of hand. You see, if we stay out of war then our country and way of living will be threatened all together, but most of us do not wish to go in headfirst and kill everyone who opposes us. • 12. Speech On Racism In Sports Without a doubt, we look at athletes today and from the past as if they are larger than life individuals. They show their personality through talent no matter what they play; some are better than others, for example some can kick or throw. However, at the end of the day they all have a different voice and a different story. People expect them to turn a blind eye to everyday events because of their status. People think of athletes as celebrities, they say they do not go through the same struggles as everyday people. That statement is far from the truth when it pertains to the issue of racism. Racism has been an unresolved problem for years whether it is in sports or athletes speaking for what they believe. Racism has had a big impact on sports such as Germany hosting the olympics and cheating, N.B.A. owners thinking they rule over their players, and the hidden discrimination that happens in locker rooms. Many times athletes have stood up for what they believed just to be shot down. Nowhere in their contracts does it state that because they are professionals that they must compromise their freedom of speech. Whether it be refusing to meet with the president, speaking out on racial injustices, or not standing for the national anthem, athletes have a strong voice in the fight against discrimination and other traumatic events. In The Bluest Eye, by Toni Morrison, Night, written by Elie Wiesel, and Flowers for Algernon, by Daniel Keyes, each author uses literary devices such as tone, symbolism, and character to inform society of its injustices. Morrison creates her character with an abusive past, displaying multiple injustices through her. For example, the abuse that she suffers from society was due to her self–belief that she was ugly, so instead of defending herself, she puts up with the social abuse. The author portrays the idea of being accepted by society through whatever means will only destroy oneself in the end, as stated on page 158, "The damage done was total." In Night, by Elie Wiesel, the author uses a frustrated tone to show how the injustice of the Holocaust impacted Eliezer. From the beginning of this era, these ads have aided many businesses in promoting their products to the public but they don't only promote these specific products. These advertisements promote what are thought to be social "norms" for women. They sell ideals for family, work, love, and the success that women are allowed to have. With all of this, they aim to communicate how a woman should be, in order to be completely excepted into society without being ridiculed for not following those social norms that these ads intend to implement. For example, at one point in the book, Noah gets pulled over, and when asked if he knows why, Noah correctly responds, "'Because you're a policeman and I'm a black person?'" (229). Prejudice is an attitude and can have both negative and positive feelings associated with it. It involves both ideas and feelings and an example of the involvement of ideas and feelings would be the idea that whites are superior to people of color, and the negative feelings they associate with that assumption (Johnson, 2006, p. 54). Discrimination is another part of social injustice where the unfair treatment of people is based on some social characteristic where prejudice is put into action. Discrimination can be either blatant, where it involves hate crimes or physical aggression, or subtle where avoidance, exclusion, or rejection is used as a tactic (Hart 2014c). It is connected to how we think and feel about people, and those assumptions or stereotypes about a person or a group can play a major role in discrimination (Johnson, 2006, p. 54). Media plays a big role in the stereotypes we assign to a particular group and whether those words used to describe that group are positive or negative. My understanding of these concepts of social injustice has changed over the semester in that I never consciously noticed how much of an impact the media plays on teaching these stereotypes and ... • 30. Racism And The Effect Of Social Injustice On Sunday April 17th, 2016 the curtain time was 2pm. I had the experience to see a play, which was, required reading in high school, which left a memory in my mind and other classmates. The play was To kill a Mocking Bird by Christopher Sergel, based on the novel by harper lee. The manatee players in collaboration with legal aid of Manasota preformed the play. The performance was held at manatee preforming arts center in the Kiwanis theatre, the ticket prices was thirteen dollars for students. This award winning production of this play has also been on film. The novel sold over fifteen million copies. This play takes place in Macomb, Alabama this was a time in the history of America when citizens were in a struggle with the civil rights movement. In this play the goal is to help you understand racism and the effects of social injustice. To summarize the play it is about a black man whom is accused of forcing himself on a white girl and sexually assaulting her. A white attorney who does not measure people by he color of their skin or social economic status represents him. The characters represent the stereotypes of small town southern inhabitance, with the mind of pre–civil rights culture. My impression is we continue in this time period to have social injustice and racism, not to the degree portrayed in the play but it is the elephant in the room and in the news. One of the main characters is scout, which is one of Atticus finches children , whom a long with her brother ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This book provides readers with an in–depth knowledge on how to deliver effective counseling to individuals experiencing social inequalities and injustice through equipping counselors with the skills necessary for becoming agents of change. The author in his 13 chapters examines the social, cultural, and economic systems responsible for perpetuating injustice and inequality with illustrations underlying the importance of counselors' acceptance of their professional, ethical, and moral responsibility in working with clients in transforming social justice systems. Having a limited access to adequate funding inevitably places individuals' lives and future into an uncomfortable position where they have fewer choices and access to benefits which can allow them to become frustrated. Ethnic minorities have a higher level of poverty existing among them when compared to other ethnic counterparts. According to the 2002–2003 U.S. statistics, children and women are at a higher risk than men of being in poverty where women in comparison to males are at a disadvantage in terms of earnings with their wage constituting 76% of the average wage for males. Consequently, "being an ethnic minority, being female, or being a child puts one at greater than average risk of living in poverty" (p. 17). Poverty has also been found to be correlated with several health and mental health conditions. Similarly, individuals of lower socioeconomic status experience higher rates of morbidity and mortality in almost all disease categories when compared to those of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Public Figures Should Be Role Models On the surface, celebrities may not seem like the type of people children and teens should position as role models. This is a result of some of the bad personal choices the media displays to the public. But below the surface, surpassing all of the negative matter that the media chooses to display, celebrities and public figures influence teens in ways that other people can not. Almost all celebrities have worked hard for their success and that is a lesson children should learn. Public figures should be considered role models because they inspire teens through their hard work and encourage kids to have a positive voice in society. Celebrities inspire children through their diligence and perseverance leading up to their careers. In "Why athletes should never be role models for kids," the author argues, "Teach your kids to enjoy athletes for their work on the field because there is nothing wrong with hero–worshipping from that standpoint"(Mendes). Although certain celebrities act inappropriately through their personal decisions, they are good examples of how hard work and diligence pays off in the long run. It is important for children and teens to know that it's alright to look up to a successful celebrity based on their career choices because they did have to work hard to get where they are. But, it is also essential for parents to educate their children on what kind of people their kids should look up to or what aspects of a certain celebrity is a good example for them ... • 33. Just Society For The Common Good What does it mean to form a more just society for the common good? I will be examining Dr. Martin Luther King's "Letter from a Birmingham Jail," as well as Gustavo Gutierrez's essay, "The Option for the Poor Arises from Love of Christ." Dr. King examines the facets of social injustice through a letter that he wrote while imprisoned for a nonviolent public protest. King's letter is in response to a letter from eight fellow clergymen. In the letter from the clergymen they criticize King's due process in seeking justice and his social injustice movement, so King responds with what I believe to be one of the greatest examples of a man who personifies what it means to form a more just society for the common good. He does not only speak on his behalf, but he speaks out all of humanity. Likewise, Gustavo Gutierrez examines specifically the poor in a similar manner, but believes that these "poor" people have found the ultimate meaning in life and we should all seek to have that same spiritual connection to God, for it would make our society a better place. The preferential option for the poor is seeking a deeper connection to God by bringing justice to light. Gutierrez and Dr. King both exemplify men who have truly set an example on how to form a more just society for the common good of humanity. Dr. King begins his letter deliberately and without emotion, he addresses their first criticism of him, which is him being an outsider and that he has no place in Birmingham. This is where ... • 34. Social Injustice In To Kill A Mockingbird Justice has long been considered something that is important to the success of a society. However justice in itself is something that is hard to achieve. Recently in the news, a story has arisen regarding a father who was not able to afford a lawyer, due to this he was not able to see his kids for five years. This is what some people would call political injustice, a case in which someone's given rights have been ignored. This is very common despite people saying that justice should be given to all people. Social injustice is a case in which people are affected by less government and law related issues, including, environmental rights, civil rights, and an access to education. This can be also seen clearly in "To Kill A Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. Through the society that Harper Lee portrays in her novel she suggests that justice is something worth fighting for. Examples of both social and polГtical injustice becomes apparent. Social injustice is a common theme throughout the novel. This can appear in cases of stereotypes. Many people in the town of Maycomb have families that are over generalized. Such as the Cunninghams, who "never took anything they can't pay back." (Lee 26). However some of these stereotypes are very inaccurate. For instance, Walter Cunningham went to dinner with the Finches, this was something that he could not pay back, but he did it anyway. Or when Scout was able to help snap Mr.Cunningham back to reality when he was trying to intimidate Atticus. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Social Injustice in Roundhouse Essay Native American Literature & Film 22 April 2014 Social Injustice in Roundhouse Lives for Native Americans on reservations have never quite been easy. There are many struggles that most outsiders are completely oblivious about. In her book The Roundhouse, Louise Erdrich brings those problems to light. She gives her readers a feel of what it is like to be Native American by illustrating the struggles through the life of Joe, a 13–year–old Native American boy living on a North Dakota reservation. This book explores an avenue of advocacy against social injustices. The most observable plight Joe suffers is figuring out how to deal with the injustice acted against his mother, which has caused strife within his entire family and within ... What I am doing now is for the future, though it may seem small, or trivial, or boring, to you" (Erdrich 229–230). Because he is too young to fully understand all the factors of the situation, Joe teeters between taking the law into his own hands and trusting his father to achieve justice through diligence. Inevitably, Joe plots to take his own actions against the attacker. He and his friends conspire to find the attacker. They undermine Bazil's attempt for restorative, long–term justice when they confront the attacker and shoot him. In addition to the issues within the family, the crime committed against mother has cause inner turmoil for Joe. He is faced with the feelings of obligation to avenge his mother. He sees her sheltering herself every day in her bedroom, slowly becoming just a shell of the woman she used to be. "The damned carcass had stolen from her. Several of the characters are based off of historical figures. While certain scenes represent historical events. The film is about the Jesuits' work and how the mission of the Jesuits was to, "spread Catholic ideas through teaching... (and) missionary work" (pg1.) The film does more than just apply history; it shows us how far humans will go for power. Power back then was to expand as far as possible, the more land you had to more power you had. The power here isSpain and Portugal looking to enslave the indigenous people, take over their land, and expand. It's not the fact that we did not know what to say, but I think it was the fear of the unknown, the fear that something was different then what we had known our whole lives. That's why I think the European governors treated the indigenous people the way they did due to the unknown. What is foreign to us is one of the scariest things that is out there, especially something we think that might over power us. This does not give them the right to think the way that they did, that the indigenous people were beast–like and deserved to be enslaved. The one scene in the movie made my heart ache when Cabeza stated, "A herring can be taught to sing." Yes, the indigenous people had a different way of life. They hunted for their own food shown in the scene where they were trying to get Rodrigo to kill the pig, they built their own houses, and yes, they wore different clothing. These are all things that come from being a part of a different culture it does not make anyone less human. We need to take a lesson from the movie and stand up and realize that people are people no matter how different. This leads the movie to another good point that social injustice still happens in everyday life. We need to be accepting of all individuals and help break down these social injustices by getting to know one another and standing up for every single human being's basic rights. • 38. The Reflection Of The Fight For Social Justice Social justice centers upon the standards of fairness, equality, admiration of diversity, and the distribution of rights that cover all people. Social justice infers that all people must have equal rights and opportunities, no matter their ethnicity, religion, or social/economic status. During the 1800s, people from all walks of life had to deal with some type of social injustice. Whether that be discrimination against a particular race, slavery, or inequality. Although many social injustices have diminished over time, it is disappointing to say, that the world is still suffers from injustices such as poverty, inequality, etc. To achievesocial justice, I believe we the people must inquire about what injustice is active and how it is affecting our community. With that being said, we need to educate those who are not aware of the injustices that we are still suffering from –both locally and globally. Also as individuals, we can show love to those of other ethnicities, religions, cultures and other backgrounds that may differ from our own. We as a nation must come together and partake in the fight for social justice. To start, in order to gain social justice, we must first educate ourselves on the injustice so we may be able to accurately inform others on the issue. The community cannot make a positive impact unless we are knowledgeable of the problem. The best way to achieve this goal is by conducting research, observance of our community and knowing the stats of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Kettle Bottom : The Consequences Of Racial Injustices In... The 1920s were a time of social injustices, primarily revolving around racial discrimination. With the revival of the Ku Klux Klan only a few short years before, African Americans lived in fear of lynching and other forms of racism during this period. This form of social injustice was widespread and known by all in the United States, but there was another issue during this time that was not as well known. The West Virginia mine wars had begun in 1920 due to the injustices that the miners had faced for decades. Miniscule wages and dangerous work conditions were only a few of the hardships that the miners had to face. The author of the book Kettle Bottom, Diane Gilliam Fisher, was able to capture these hardships perfectly in her poetry to help shine light on the terrible treatment and the resulting consequences that the miners and their families received during this time. Many of her poems, such as, "Dear Diary," "Pearlie Tells What Happened at School," and "Walter and His Mama Talk about Angels," show the negative impact that growing up during this period of violence and injustice had had on the miners' children. Often, children who are raised during a time of injustice don't always see their misfortune due to the fact that their peers are also experiencing the same hardship and do not know any better. This was the case for young Edith Mae who is the narrator of Fisher's poem, "Dear Diary." Edith Mae had lived her life so far in ignorant bliss, not knowing how her ... • 40. Non Systemic Testimonial Injustice By Miranda Fricker Non–systemic Testimonial Injustice In Testimonial Injustice by Miranda Fricker, she identifies that there are systemic testimonial injustices and they relate to a common prejudice towards the speaker. Fricker uses the term testimonial injustice, which is an injustice to someone whom is unjustly perceived by others to have less knowledge than he/she actually has. An example of a systemic testimonial injustice would be the accent of a speaker, causing the speaker to receive a credibility deficit. The speaker is wronged in his/her knowledge as a result of the prejudice employed against him/her. However, Fricker did not include an exhaustive enough list of testimonial injustices. More specifically, I argue that Fricker overlooked a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of a credibility deficit would be a professor at a university receiving less credibility and respect of his knowledge due to his accent. His accent could lead the students to believe he isn't capable to be someone who holds much knowledge. The students doing so wrongs the professor, and he is receiving testimonial injustice. This type of testimonial injustice is systemic and not justified as the professor is assumed to have this job because he is properly qualified for the position. This example is systemic because it contains a connection with a common prejudice that occurs often in society. People with accents often face prejudice and receive a credibility deficit as a result. According to Fricker, testimonial injustices occur when identity power is in play. Identity power is whenever there is an operation of power with shared concepts of social identities. An example Fricker uses of active identity power is a man silencing a woman with a joke about her in The Talented Mr. Ripley. There are two types of operations of power discussed by Fricker. An example of passive identity power is a woman being silenced simply because she is a woman and feeling like she shouldn't speak out. Identity power can work in a positive manner or a negative manner. An example of identity power working positively would be a group of people voting because it's a common practice in their social group. Identity power working negatively would be a group of ...
