With more and more people using tablets for reading technical documentation, this webinar looks at how this trend will affect the way technical documents are designed and developed. We'll look at examples of documents that 'work' on a tablet, as well as documents that don't. We'll explore some of the emerging design trends for presenting technical documentation on tablets, and what they mean for Technical Writers. We'll also investigate how tablets, and the technologies contained within then, could be used to improve the User Assistance we provide to our readers. Ellis is Director and Help Strategist at Cherryleaf, a technical writing services and training company based near London, in the United Kingdom. He has over fifteen years’ experience working in the field of documentation, has a BA in Business Studies, and is an Associate of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. Ranked the most influential blogger on technical communication in Europe, Ellis is also an author and editor of two books: ‘How to Write Instructions’ and ‘Trends in Technical Communication’.

No matter how well designed your SharePoint intranet is, if it’s not used by employees then it won’t add value. However, SharePoint adoption remains a challenge for many companies, with low usage levels and functionality that often ignored as old practices persist. In this session Sam Marshall will guide you through a range of techniques for improving the use of your intranet. • Why is SharePoint adoption challenging? • What strategies have leading companies used to successfully introduce social tools? • How much should we rely on managers and leaders to drive intranet adoption? • How can you get away from 'big bang' launches? • How can we encourage people to create content and interact, rather than just reading it?

EventStorming was born as a massively in-person workshop to discover and model complex businesses and design event-driven software. But the old ways are no longer viable. After one year of experiments and discoveries in a forced-remote setting we know a lot more about what is still working and what is not.

Plone is cool, powerful and does what it promises. But any ambitious Plone project is difficult if you don't pay attention to some prerequisites and follow some rules, both general and specific to the Plone world. This presentation hopes to help people involved in Plone projects to stop worrying and experience bad or unproductive communication we see sometimes, and adopt a new mantra : "Let's deliver that project and move on to the next one !" Based on the experience of the community at large, we are going to review the traps, the requirements, and how to approach problems if you want your project to succeed. In the tradition of "reuse what already works", you can apply already known project management patterns and antipatterns to your Plone project. You will be surprised to see that it works ! More importantly, the session will bring advices to the different parties of a project (the Company/User and the Consultant/Developer/Provider), and investigate how they can work together for a better outcome for the end-user.

Many developers have blinders when considering their technologies. We tend to fade out the sometimes hard-to-learn skills and hurdles in dealing with the system, and sometimes look contemptuously at other technologies that repeat the same mistakes that our community has already made. We rant about the hurdles we have with our own system, but forgets about the many smart elements that comes for free. This presentation is meant to be a self-critical analysis of our "Plone" system and the community behind it, and to provide a discussion stimulus for the future of Plone.

Once a company has more than 1 department developing code, a problem inevitably arises: How do you share source code that's mutually used? There are many different thoughts on the matter, but one that's starting to gain a significant amount of attention is "InnerSource". PayPal defines InnerSource as: "InnerSource takes the lessons learned from developing open source software and applies them to the way companies develop software internally. As developers have become accustomed to working on world class open source software, there is a strong desire to bring those practices back inside the firewall and apply them to software that companies may be reluctant to release. For companies building mostly closed source software, InnerSource can be a great tool to help break down silos, encourage internal collaboration, accelerate new engineer on-boarding, and identify opportunities to contribute software back to the open source world." In this talk I cover how to get from where you are ("Hey, we've got some source code that multiple people find useful!"), where you're going ("Look, we're more popular than ReactJS"), and some hurdles along the way ("Oh shoot, it looks like there is already a library to convert FLAC to MP3s..."). I give real-world examples of doing it right, and leave with some takeaways that people can immediately implement at their own companies.

One of the challenges of a modern intranet is that the boundaries are becoming blurred by the growth of social and collaboration tools, mobile access and cloud applications. In this evolving landscape, intranets remain highly important, but the roadmap needs to plan for the digital workplace as a whole. Based on hands-on experience of developing strategy, Sam Marshall shows how approaching this from an employee perspective can bring clarity and purpose, but also how the emphasis needs to be as much on management as on technology.

As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other? Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
