7. Generic Moxifloxacin Dosage

➢Community Acquired Pneumonia: 400 mg
once every 24 hours for 7 to 14 days
➢Uncomplicated Skin and Skin Structure
Infections (SSSI): 400 mg once every 24 hours
for 7 days
➢Complicated SSSI: 400 mg once every 24
hours for 7 to 21 days
➢Complicated Intra-Abdominal Infections: 400
mg once every 24 hours for 5 to 14 days
➢Plague: 400 mg for 10 to 14 days

➢Acute Bacterial Sinusitis: 400 mg once every
24 hours for 10 days
➢Acute Bacterial Exacerbation of Chronic
Bronchitis: 400 mg once every 24 hours for 5
days
➢No dosage adjustment in patients with renal
or hepatic impairment.

Moxif (Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride
Tablets) have to be stored at controlled
room temperature i.e. from 20°C to 25°C
(68°F to 77°F) with excursions permitted
between 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F).
Store in a cool dry place. Protect from
light. Keep this as well as all other
medicines away from children and pets.

Prolongation of the QT interval and
isolated cases of torsade de pointes has
been reported.
Avoid use of Moxif (Moxifloxacin
Hydrochloride Tablets) in patients with
known prolongation, proarrhythmic
conditions such as clinically significant
bradycardia or acute myocardial
ischemia, hypokalemia,
hypomagnesemia, and with drugs that
prolong the QT interval.

Hypersensitivity and other serious reactions:
Serious and sometimes fatal reactions,
including anaphylactic reactions, may occur
after first or subsequent doses of
Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride tablets.
Discontinue Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride tablets
at first sign of skin rash, jaundice or any
other sign of hypersensitivity.
Clostridium difficile-Associated Diarrhea:
Evaluate if diarrhea occurs.

Contraindications
Moxif is contraindicated in patients
with a hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin
or other quinolones or any other
component of this medication.

13. Generic Moxifloxacin Side Effects

➢Common Generic Moxifloxacin side effects with an
incidence rate of 3% or greater were nausea, diarrhea,
headache, and dizziness.
➢The most common side effects leading to discontinuation
with 400 mg oral doses were nausea (0.8%), diarrhoea
(0.5%), dizziness (0.5%), and vomiting (0.4%).
➢Fluoroquinolones, including Moxifloxacin HCl have been
associated with disabling and potentially irreversible
serious adverse reactions and have occurred together,
including: Tendinitis and tendon rupture, Peripheral
Neuropathy and Central nervous system effects.
➢Discontinue Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride tablets
immediately and avoid use of fluoroquinolones, including
Moxif, in patients who experience any of these serious
adverse reactions.

Single oral overdoses of Moxifloxacin
Hydrochloride Tablets up to 2.8 gms were
not associated with any serious adverse
events.

15. Generic Moxifloxacin Overdose

In the case of acute Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride
overdose, Empty the stomach and maintain
adequate hydration. Monitor ECG due to the
possibility of QT interval prolongation. Carefully
observe the patient and administer supportive
treatment.
The administration of activated charcoal as soon as
possible after oral overdose may prevent excessive
increase of systemic Moxifloxacin exposure.
About 3% and 9% of the dose of Moxifloxacin
Hydrochloride tablets, as well as about 2% and 4.5%
of its glucuronide metabolite are removed by
continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis and
hemodialysis, respectively.

16. Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride During Pregnancy

Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride (Moxif tablets)
has been classified by the US FDA as
Pregnancy Category C.
Animal reproduction studies have shown
an adverse effect on the fetus and there
are no adequate and well-controlled
studies in humans, but potential benefits
may warrant use of the drug in pregnant
women despite potential risks.
