Zoxan (Ciprofloxacin HCl Tablets) are
indicated for the treatment of the following
infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
Respiratory Tract Infections:
Acute and chronic bronchitis, obstructive
airways disease (COPD), empyema, lung
abscess, bronchiectasis, lobar and
bronchopneumonia, acute exacerbation of
cystic fibrosis, otitis media, sinusitis and
mastoiditis especially due to gram-negative
bacteria.

Urinary Tract Infections: Acute and chronic
pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis, prostatitis,
epididymitis and chronic complicated or recurrent UTI
caused by multi-drug resistant organisms and/or
Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Skin And Soft Tissue Infections: Generic Ciprofloxacin
HCl tablets are used to treat surgical and post-
operative wound infections due to gram-negative
organisms such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Zoxan
is also useful in infections caused by resistant
Staphylococci including infected ulcers, wound
infections, abscesses, cellulitis, erysipelas, infected
burns.

Surgical Infections:Generic Ciprofloxacin is
used to treat Peritonitis, intra-abdominal
abscess, cholangitis, cholecystitis, empyema
of gall bladder.
Bone And Joint Infections:
Acute and chronic osteomyelitis, septic
arthritis.
Pelvic Infections:
Salpingitis, endometritis, pelvic inflammatory
disease.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases:
Gonorrhoea including that caused by beta-
lactamase producing strains and chancroid
caused by H.ducreyi.
Gastrointestinal Infections: Enteric fever,
infective diarrhoea.
Severe Systemic Infections: Septicaemia,
bacteraemia, infections in
immunocompromised patients.

10. Ciprofloxacin HCl Dosage

➢Respiratory tract, bone and joint infections:
Mild/moderate 500 mg twice daily/or 1000 mg
once daily. Severe/complicated 750 mg twice
daily.
➢Urinary tract infections: Acute uncomplicated
500 mg od for 3 days. Mild/moderate 250 mg
twice daily / 500 mg once daily.
Severe/complicated 500 mg twice daily/or 1000
mg once daily
Ciprofloxacin HCl tablets must be swallowed
whole with adequate amount of liquid. Zoxan
tablets can be taken with or without meals.
The dosage of Zoxan tablets (Ciprofloxacin HCl)

➢ Infectious diarrhoea: Mild/moderate/severe
500 mg twice daily/or 1000 mg once daily.
➢Gonorrhoea: 250 mg single dose
➢Non-gonococcal urethritis: 750 mg twice daily
➢Chancroid: 500 mg twice daily/1000 mg once
daily
➢Other infections: 500-750 mg twice daily
➢Chronic Bacterial prostatitis: 1000 mg once
daily for 28 days

Zoxan (Ciprofloxacin HCl Tablets) have
to be stored at controlled room
temperature i.e. from 20°C to 25°C (68°F
to 77°F) with excursions permitted
between 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F).
Protect from light.
Keep this as well as all other medicines
away from children and pets.

13. Warnings

All Fluoroquinolones, including Generic
Ciprofloxacin HCl tablets, are associated
with an increased risk of tendinitis and
tendon rupture in all ages.
This risk is further increased in older
patients usually over 60 years of age, in
patients taking corticosteroid drugs, and
in patients with kidney, heart or lung
transplants.

Contraindications
Zoxan is contraindicated in patients with a
hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin
Hydrochloride or any other component of
this medication.

➢Zoxan (Ciprofloxacin HCl Tablets) is
generally well tolerated. The common
side effects of Generic Ciprofloxacin
tablets are Diarrhoea, vomiting,
abdominal pain, headache, restlessness
and rash.
➢Other side effects which have been
reported very rarely include myalgia,
tendonitis/rupture, exacerbation of
myasthenia gravis and increases in serum
transaminase levels.

16. Ciprofloxacin HCl Overdose

In case of acute Ciprofloxacin overdosage,
reversible renal toxicity has been reported in
some cases.
The stomach must be emptied by inducing
vomiting or by gastric lavage.
The patient should be carefully observed and
given supportive treatment, including monitoring
of renal function, urinary pH and acidity, if
required, to prevent crystalluria and
administration of magnesium, aluminium or
calcium-containing antacids, which can reduce
the absorption of Ciprofloxacin should be done.
Adequate hydration should be maintained.

17. Ciprofloxacin During Pregnancy

Zoxan (Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride
Tablets) has been classified by the US
FDA as Pregnancy Category C.
There are no adequate and well-controlled
studies conducted in pregnant women.
Ciprofloxacin HCl tablets should not be
used during pregnancy unless the potential
benefit justifies the potential risk to both
fetus and mother.
