Zoxan (Generic Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride Tablets) is a broad spectrum Fluoroquinolone antibacterial indicated in adults 18 years of age or more with the following infections caused by designated, susceptible bacteria and in pediatric patients where indicated: Skin and Skin Structure Infections, Bone and Joint Infections, Complicated Intra-Abdominal Infections, Infectious Diarrhea, Typhoid Fever (Enteric Fever), Uncomplicated Cervical and Urethral Gonorrhea, Inhalational Anthrax post-exposure in adult and pediatric patients, Chronic Bacterial Prostatitis, Lower Respiratory Tract Infections, Acute Exacerbation of Chronic Bronchitis, Urinary Tract Infections, Urinary Tract Infections (UTI), Acute Uncomplicated Cystitis, Complicated UTI and Pyelonephritis in Pediatric Patients and Acute Sinusitis. This medicine is also used to treat and prevent plague in adult and pediatric patients (including pneumonic and septicemic plague). Ciprofloxacin may mask or delay the symptoms of syphilis. It is not effective against syphilis infections.

Uses of Zoxan Tablets
Zoxan (Generic Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride Tablets) are used for the
treatment of a wide variety of infections caused by susceptible gram-
positive and gram-negative organisms, including mixed infections caused
two or more organisms. It may also use for infections caused by multidrug-
resistant bacteria. Ciprofloxacin is indicated for the treatment of the
following infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
Respiratory Tract Infections: Acute bronchitis, exacerbation of chronic
obstructive airways disease, empyema, lung abscess, infected
bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis and pneumonia.
Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Acute and chronic pyelonephritis,

Ciprofloxacin is indicated for the treatment of the following infections caused by

Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: In surgical and post-operative wound infections,
due to gram-negative organisms such as Enterobacteriaceae and Pseudomonas
aeruginosa. Also, useful in infections caused by resistant staphylococci.

Zoxan Tablets Dosage
The dosage of Zoxan tablets (Generic Ciprofloxacin
Hydrochloride Tablets) is given below: Zoxan tablets (Generic
Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride Tablets) must be swallowed whole
with adequate amount of liquid. Ciprofloxacin HCl tablets can be
taken with or without regard to meals. Fluids should be taken
liberally. Antacids should not be taken concomitantly or within
two hours of dosing. The adult dosage for various indications is
given below:
Respiratory Tract, Bone And Joint Infections:
Mild/moderate 500 mg twice daily/or 1000 mg once daily

Mild/moderate/severe 500 mg twice daily/or 1000 mg once daily
Gonorrhoea: 250 mg single dose
Non-Gonococcal Urethritis: 750 mg twice daily

Other infections: 500 to 750 mg twice daily
Chronic Bacterial prostatitis: 1000 mg once daily for 28 days

Contraindications
Zoxan tablets are contraindicated in patients with a
hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride, other
quinolones or any other component of this medication.
Concomitant administration with Tizanidine is contraindicated.
Zoxan tablets are not recommended in children below the age of
18 years.

Storage Instructions
Zoxan (Generic Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride
Tablets) have to be stored at controlled room
temperature i.e. from 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F)

Warnings
Hypersensitivity and other serious reactions: Serious and sometimes fatal
reactions (for example, anaphylactic reactions) may occur after the
first or subsequent doses of Zoxan tablets. Discontinue Zoxan tablets at
the first sign of skin rash, jaundice or any sign of hypersensitivity.
Hepatotoxicity: Discontinue immediately if signs and symptoms of
hepatitis occur.
Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea: Evaluate if colitis occurs.
QT Prolongation: Prolongation of the QT interval and isolated cases of
torsade de pointes have been reported. Avoid use in patients with known
prolongation, those with hypokalemia, and with other drugs that prolong
the QT interval.

Zoxan Tablets Side Effects
Zoxan tablets (Ciprofloxacin) are generally well tolerated.
The common side effects of Ciprofloxacin with an
incidence rate of 15 or more are nausea, diarrhea, liver
function tests abnormal, vomiting, and rash.
Other side effects which have been reported include
abdominal pain, headache, restlessness, myalgia,
tendonitis/rupture, exacerbation of myasthenia gravis and
increases in serum transaminase levels.

Zoxan Tablets Overdose
In the event of acute Zoxan tablets overdosage, reversible renal toxicity
has been reported in some cases. Empty the stomach by inducing
vomiting or by gastric lavage. Observe the patient carefully and give
supportive treatment, including monitoring of renal function, urinary pH
and acidify, if required, to prevent crystalluria and administration of
magnesium, aluminum, or calcium containing antacids which can reduce
the absorption of Ciprofloxacin.
Adequate hydration must be maintained.
Only a small amount of Ciprofloxacin (less than 10%) is removed from
the body after hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.

Zoxan Tablets During Pregnancy
Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride (Zoxan Tablets) has been
classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category C.
There are no adequate and well-controlled studies conducted in
pregnant women. Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride tablets (Zoxan
Tablets) must not be used during pregnancy unless the potential
benefit justifies the potential risk to both fetus and mother.
An expert review of published data on experiences with Ciprofloxacin
use during pregnancy by TERIS–the Teratogen Information System–
concluded that therapeutic doses during pregnancy are unlikely to
pose a substantial teratogenic risk (quantity and quality of data=fair),
but the data are insufficient to state that there is no risk.
