Abstract This paper intends to bring awareness to the harmful effects of the media on young children. Through this paper, I will investigate the claim
that television promotes observational learning. I will describe the obscenities the media exposes to children. With that, I will explain how the media
causes aggression in consumers, especially those of youth. This paper will also expound on the powerful effect modeling has on behavior. I will
provide extensive examples of the impact of the media using multiple sources.
Observational Learning & the Young Child Observational learning can be best defined as learning that occurs through observing the behavior of
others. It occurs from observing, retaining, and reproducing a behavior observed from a model. In order for observational learning to occur, the
observer must regard an action, memorize what was observed, be able to replicate the behavior, and be motivated to yield the particular behavior.
According to Introduction to Psychology: Gateways to Mind and Behavior, by observing a model, a person may learn a new response, learn to carry
out or avoid previously learned responses, or learn a general rule that can be applied to various situations (Coon & Mitterer, p. 231). Observational
learning can teach completely new behaviors or can affect the frequency of previously learned

I will be focussing on how parental divorce affects a young person aged fifteen to sixteen, I will also be looking at the things that can be done in
order to make it as easy as it can be; as divorce is not an easy thing for anyone to go through. My two key issues will be the effects of the transition
and the emotional support needed to make it easier. Divorce has many different effects, among the effects is the possibility of having to move away
/ leave friends, having to make new starts, choice of who and where they are going to live with as well as effects on school work, attendance and
exams; there are also the effects on their well–being as some feel like their whole life is being torn apart in front of their eyes.

Effects may vary as no–one reacts to news the same way,young people can sometimes feel confused because they were unaware of what was
happening around them however it can go the other way with young people becoming very emotional unsure how to process the news; some can even
jeopardize their well–being but are not even aware they are doing it. School can be affected because of family breakdown, young people can feel that
school comes second with what they are facing, so it means that they could missing out on vital information or tips for their exams leaving them

This paper reflects on knowledge gained through direct observation during the first part of the Strength Based Approaches Module. The ability to
reflect is widely agreed to improve performance, manifested through analysing on strengths and the development of competence (Gibbs, 1988).
Throughout this log, there will be a demonstration of how this approach has enabled me to work effectively with young people and families in order to
help them overcome a whole range of difficulties by assisting them identify their achievements as well as strengths.
Traditionally, my knowledge of child development and ways of working with clients has always been influenced by psychiatric and psychological
knowledge. Though this can be useful, it can also be problem–based as it categorises the clients and their needs (Milner and Bateman 2011).
Having had a problem–based approach, this made it challenging and difficult for me in the first two sessions. However, having carefully observed, as a
result of this I have started to gain interest in the solution focused approaches due to its brief nature and how much it focuses on solutions rather than
the actual problem.
In session three, this week I was able to notice the importance of this approach as we were put in groups of three, me being the interviewer and the
other two being the interviewee and a consultant. This did
