be investigated in this piece of research, and concluded as to whether technology, smartphones specifically, is truly harmful toyoung people.
How has technology evolved?
Technology has greatly changed over the past 10 years, especially social media and mediums that young people can communicate on. One of the
largest impacts on the sociality of young people was the introduction of Facebook in 2004. (Elgot, 2015) Facebook is the most influential
invention on young people to this date, changing the way people communicate forever. Facebook has also introduced a great danger to young
people, with research from Pew Research Centre finding that 91% of young people would post a photo of themselves, 71% would post the city or
town that they live in, 50% give their email address, and 20% give their phone number. (Madden, et al., 2013) This is a great risk on young people,
with all their information out for everyone to see, but this is the risk that young people are willing to take, for the social possibilities that Facebook has
to offer.

Medicating Young Minds In the article, "Medicating Young Minds", which was published in Time magazine, dated November 3, 2003, it is stated that
using stimulant medication on the youth is harmful. The article's author, Jeffrey Kluger, states that society must find alternative ways to treat young
people for problems such as; ADD, ADHD, depression, anxiety, etc. Jeffrey Kluger's argument is not very persuasive for various reasons: their
ill–logical beliefs, their sarcastic tones, their opinion and lack of fact based information, and their tendency to be biased in their writing. All of these

In giving these success stories he mocks them with a statement belittling the individual for having to depend on stimulant medication. The authors are
clearly not going about the mature way and taking away from the serious nature of the topic, making the argument more ill–logical. He will state;
children should not take these medications for example; but not give any other alternatives to a matter that is very prevalent and that effect's many.
The author et al is clearly biased against those who need stimulant medications. It is their feeling that people should not need to take medication. They
state all the reasons they should not partake in medication but is blind to see all the reasons they may need medication to stabilize their life. Also, they
attempt to give an alternative of therapy for things like depression, or anxiety, which is sometimes aided by prescription medication. Kluger et al give
these alternatives but ignores giving any other options to medications for ADD or ADHD because there are not any. Another point in his argument, he
will give examples of young people who are successful now with medication, and then say they should not be using medication. Kluger et al have a
negative attitude that is seen through their writing. The tone of the article is showing enforcing the pessimistic attitude towards stimulant medication on

This paper reflects on knowledge gained through direct observation during the first part of the Strength Based Approaches Module. The ability to
reflect is widely agreed to improve performance, manifested through analysing on strengths and the development of competence (Gibbs, 1988).
Throughout this log, there will be a demonstration of how this approach has enabled me to work effectively with young people and families in order to
help them overcome a whole range of difficulties by assisting them identify their achievements as well as strengths.
Traditionally, my knowledge of child development and ways of working with clients has always been influenced by psychiatric and psychological
knowledge. Though this can be useful, it can also be problem–based as it categorises the clients and their needs (Milner and Bateman 2011).
Having had a problem–based approach, this made it challenging and difficult for me in the first two sessions. However, having carefully observed, as a
result of this I have started to gain interest in the solution focused approaches due to its brief nature and how much it focuses on solutions rather than
the actual problem.
In session three, this week I was able to notice the importance of this approach as we were put in groups of three, me being the interviewer and the
