2. INTRODUTION
• Martha Elizabeth Rogers (May 12,
1914 – March 13, 1994) was an
American nurse, researcher, theorist,
and author. While professor of nursing
at New York University, Rogers
developed the "Science of Unitary
Human Beings", a body of ideas that
she described in her book An
Introduction to the Theoretical Basis of
Nursing.

3. MAJOR CONCEPTS AND
DEFINITION
PERSON
• A unitary human being
is a open systems
which continuously
interact with
environment . A person
cannot be viewed as a
parts, and it should be
considered as a whole.
ENVIRONMENT
• It include the entire
energy field other than
a person these energy
field are irreducible ,
not limited by space
and time, identified by
its pattern and
organizationChinna Chadayan & Melba Sahaya Sweety
4. MAJOR CONCEPTS AND DEFINITION
• Rogers uses the term passive health to
symbolize wellness and the absence of
disease and major illness. Here ,
promotion of positive health can notes
direction in helping people with
opportunities for rhythmic consistency

5. MAJOR CONCEPTS AND DEFINITION
NURSING
According to her, nursing is a humanistic
science concerned with maintaining
and promoting health , preventing
illness , caring for and rehabilitating the
sick and disabled. Nursing seeks to
promote interaction between the
environment and man to strengthen the
coherence and integrity of the human
being Chinna Chadayan & Melba Sahaya Sweety
6. ASSUMPTIONS
• Human being is considered as united
whole (energy field)
• Man and environment are continuously
exchanging matter and energy with one
another(openness).
• The life process evolves irreversibly and
unidirectionally along the space
continuum (helicy)
Chinna Chadayan & Melba Sahaya Sweety
7. ASSUMPTIONS
• Pattern and organization identify man
and reflect his innovative wholeness
(pattern and organization)
• Man is characterizes by the capacity for
abstraction and imagery, language and
thought, sensation , and emotion
(sentiment, thinking being)

9. ENERGY FIELD
• The energy field constitutes the
fundamental unit of both the living and
non-living. They are human and
environmental field both have energy field
they are open , Energy can freely flow
between human and environment and it
continuously varies in intensity, density and
extend.
Chinna Chadayan & Melba Sahaya Sweety
10. OPENNESS
• There is no boundaries
or barrier that can
inhibit the flow of
energy between
human and
environment. Which
leads to continuous
movement or matter
of energy.
PATTERN
• Pattern identified
energy field. It is
distinguishing
characteristics of a
field and is perceived
as a single wave. The
nature of the pattern
changes continuously
and may manifest
disease, illness or
pain.Chinna Chadayan & Melba Sahaya Sweety
11. PANDIMENSIONALITY
• It is defined as a non-linear domain
without spatial or temporal
attributes. The pandimensionality
provides for an indefinite domain
without limit. It expresses the idea
of a unitary whole.
