Burial Art
Ancient Egyptian tombs contained art to help the soul transition
from Life to Death and to help the deceased navigate the
Underworld. Great care was taken to preserve the body for the
journey into the Underworld. Compare and contrast modern day
examples of burial art to that of the Ancient Egyptians. What
are the similarities and what are the differences?
Students should make every effort to demonstrate in their
responses that they have understood the assigned readings.
Responses to peers should also be substantial and contribute to
the discussion of the topic.

Second assignment
Roman Influence
Look at the pictures of the Temple of Philae at Aswan and the
Temple of Horus at Edfu (see the PowerPoint presentation).
These were built in a period of Roman domination of Egypt.
Mention something you see in/on/about one of these temples
that indicate a Roman influenced change and describe it.
