Audience research surery monkey
1. I created a survey to help with our audience research on Survey Monkey. I had it running for two
hours, and posted it on facebook so people could answer. The first survey I did didn’t go to well as
the answer boxes I left for people to type in, some people took this to their advantage and wrote
responses that either not topic related or just stupid answers. After that survey I had learnt that
multiple choices is the safe option and the outcome was much more constructive. I asked five simple
questions which would give me an understanding to the background on what people think of our
song, our concept and our mise-en-scene. All the pie charts have sample on because I don’t have the
full version of Survey Monkey which costs $24 a month.
The first question was: Do you think the genre of trance/electro is popular?
The song we have chosen Ah Yeah by Will Sparks is trance and electro so we wanted to find out if
that kind of genre was popular within the target audience we aim to appeal to. Before I published
the survey on facebook I wrote only people between 16 and 25 can answer the survey which Is our
target audience, however that was just a instruction maybe people on facebook over 25 or under 16
answered the questionnaire. Around 60-70% said yes it is popular which is good because that means
our genre is popular in today society.
The second question was: What do you expect to see in a electro/trance music video
2. We had four multiple choice answers you could only click one answer. The one that got the most
proportion of votes was party which dominated any other theme with 40% of the votes. Originally in
our treatment video our main concept was a party so this already meets the expectation and needs
for our target audience. The second biggest was explicit content with 30% when we created a mood
board on our treatment video we realised that most of the video would be either explicit our
exploring explicit themes. The third biggest was drugs with 20%, originally we didn’t plan to include
drugs but we knew it was a by-product of explicit content and party so I chose to put it as a answer.
And finally wealth orientated themes got 10% I put this as answer because rap is always about bling
and wealth and I wanted to see if it would work or be expected by our target audience to appear in a
electro music video.
The third question was: What do you expect people to wear at a average party?
3. This question helped us in the way that, we didn’t really know what people generally wear to
parties, from what our group has experienced at previous parties its either a themed dress code or
just smart, polo, chinos and shoes(slightly different for a girl). Again our target audience answered
what they expect to see at the average party. The one which got the most vote was random with
nearly 50% of votes. Second place was a tie between themed and eccentric clothing both having the
same number of votes. Last was Formal clothing with 10%. From this we can deduce that a
conventional party people normally either dress randomly or eccentric or themed. The
unconventional party would have people dressed formally.
The fourth question was: Would it be humorous to see people in a horse mask at a party?
4. This was more for our recurrence if it was a good idea to have someone in a mask in the first place
and we came to the conclusion that horse was the most popular and accessible mask we decided to
find out if it’s worth investing in one. From the research nearly 75% of our audience said yes which
suggests that it would be humorous to have someone in a horse mask at a party. Our video wants to
achieve a unconventional party but we do want a element of humour and having someone’s identity
hidden and changed seems unconventional.
The fifth question was: Do you think Trance/electro is music suitable for a pool party?
5. From the results the majority of people votes yes, nearly 50% which electro/trance would suit a pool
party. The Yes, No and Maybe were all equal with 20% each. From this feedback we can deduce that
it would suit a pool party which is good because our idea was to have a pool party for our song Ah
Yeah by Will Sparks.
