2. What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
When I think about my audience feedback, I instantly go back to looking at my
first initial explanation of my music video - the pitch. This was when I gave a
presentation my peers as well as teachers about what my music video
generally is and how I’m going to do it. I remember that when I posted the
pitch on my blog afterwards that I received comments from some of my peers
about it.
I received 7 comments of feedback on the pitch that I posted on my blog. 5 out of the 7 all
included that the POV idea was a great and unique idea to do if it was executed well. This
made me go into more research and planning of POV music videos (seen in a blog post
later on in the blog) to make sure that when I was to record the music video that it would
be of a high standard and followed conventions of a real POV video. Another comment
also helped me think carefully about my idea, due to my video being recorded in Spain
and that I wouldn’t be able to re-film if I didn’t take a good shot I wouldn’t be able to re film
it, nor if I didn’t have any back up filming the idea wouldn’t be able to go through. This is
what made me record a lot more than needed and of different clips so that if a clip that I
recorded didn’t work or wasn’t up to a good standard, I could always go into the folder of
filler clips to make sure that the video kept to the same quality all the way throughout. I
feel like this feedback was great when I was planning my music video due to the fact that
it was the first initial feedback I got for my idea and I believed it helped me develop my
shots.
3. During the stages of my research and planning, I met two people at
work who were going into media at university, and that they were able
to help me and give me feedback too on the final product and on the
drafts. This boosted my motivation more and more and they also
helped me make any changes on the music video that they thought
would make it look better, more professional etc.
Like I said earlier, I had a few friends who this year have started to go to university who study media and they
were a huge help with the feedback that they gave me. A big note too is that both of these students are not in
my target audience and do not listen to the genre of music, so it was good for them to give me good
feedback and how to improve from another perspective. Through facebook messages it can be seen that
they are helping me out and giving me feedback on particular parts. I feel like with this feedback, I have been
able to improve my video by making it look more professional and making the shots better with the tips from
the two friends. Another bonus was that one of them also has a GoPro camera and he helped me with all of
the settings and the perfect set-up to record the music video in, which I believe improved the music videos
potential massively.
4. After my first draft was uploaded, one of my teachers gave me thorough feedback on what parts to
change, which shots to replace, for more cuts in certain places and so on. This helped me massively as I
was able to understand why these changes would make my music video better and that I could also use
this information to maybe edit more parts of the video to make the more mundane shots better (such as
the walking aspects of the video). This was done by researching and watching videos on colour correction
and helped me make the shots in Spain look a lot better and essentially more ‘Holiday looking’.
