1. SUMMARY OF CAPro ACTIVITIES-MBEERE DISTRICT: AUGUST, 2011
1. Stakeholders inception workshop -02/08/11
Held at the Agricultural Training Centre(ATC), Embu for different stakeholders in Mbeere north
and south districts.19 stakeholders from the following organizations participated; MOA-Mbeere
North, Mbeere south, Vet services, Mbeere North, Min of Livestock development ,Mbeere
north, Min of Public Health, Kenya Forest Service, NEMA, HCDA-Mwea, KARI Embu,
KMD, Greenbelt movement, ACK Diocese, Maendeleo Ya Wanawake, Mastermind, District
Agricultural Committee (DAC)-farmer representatives, Mbeere north and South
Key issues discussed were;
Weather and climate change in Mbeere
impacts of climate change on agriculture, livestock, forests, environment and
interventions by different stakeholders
2. Focus Group Discussion - 03/08/11
-Held at Fellana hotel, Siakago town for 30 key informants drawn from all agro ecological zones
in Mbeere. Key issues discussed were;
Farmers’ perceptions of climate change, indicators, causes and impacts of climate
change on crops, livestock, environment and their livelihoods
Adaptation and coping strategies used by farmers to reduce the impacts caused by
climate change.

2. Farmers in Mbeere have turned to miraa cultivation. This entire farm in Siakago division
is under miraa.
A cow in Kiritiri division, Mbeere district, tethered on bare ground. The only feeds
available are the dry leaves on the ground.
3. A dry riverbed, residents of Kiritiri division have to buy water for domestic use.
