Moving Out Of My House In Iowa Falls
The house that built me
Never in a million years did I think that I would be moving out of my house in Iowa Falls. Growing
up my dream had always been to someday move back to Iowa Falls, and live in that house. That was
until my mom and dad sat me down on the porch after one of my baseball games and broke the news
that we'd be moving to Clear Lake after baseball season. I had had known for a couple months that
there was a good chance that we were going to be moving. I sat there on the enclosed front porch
looking out around the neighborhood thinking about all the great times that I'd had at that house.
When you would approach my house you would notice a large evergreen tree sitting right outside
our house, it used to look like one of those big Christmas Trees that you'd see on tv getting lit up,
but it got a disease that killed a lot of the branches. The branches that were left on the tree were like
ladders making it perfect for climbing. There were many days that my brothers and I would have
contests to see how could climb to the top, we were all scared of heights so we never got too high.
The house itself was a three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The basement was dark and creepy at night or when it was dark, so I always made sure that the light
was on when I went down the stairs. The times when the lights weren't on I'd always sprint up the
stairs and never look back, because you never know what could be following you. Once you got the
lights on though the basement was a pretty cool place. It was a huge room with a couple couches
and a pool table in it. There was an opening in between the pool table and couch sitting area where
me and my brothers would play tackle football when we were kids, until one day when I got tackled
and cracked my head open on the pool table. After that mom didn't really let us play football in the
basement. The basement is kinda where me and my brothers lived when we were hanging out at

Report on Cocoanut Grove Nightclub Fire Essay
At 2215 hrs, on November 28, 1942, Fire Alarm Headquarters from Box 1514, situated at Stuart and
Carver streets, received an alarm. When the responding apparatus arrived they found a small car fire
at the corner of Stuart Street and Broadway. After the fire was extinguished the firefighters were
about to return to quarters when their attention was called to smoke emanating from the Cocoanut
Grove Nightclub a few doors away. Upon their arrival at the entrance of the Broadway lounge on
Broadway they encountered numerous people leaving the premises admidst the cries of "fire". The
chief in charge immediately ordered that a third alarm be sounded from Alarm Box 1521 which the
alarm was received by fire alarm headquarters at 2223 hrs. A ... Show more content on

This room was about 40 feet by 40 feet. It had been opened to the public only recently and was
located on the east end of the premises on the first floor of a second–class building consisting of
three stories, and an attic (59 Broadway). The second floor of this building contained motors and a
locker room for employees was on the third floor.
The public only had access to the first floor. Connection with the first class structure, containing the

New Orleans Narrative
"Quarter Million? Doubt it. Though this room looks nice, I'd say this is a typical loft in New
Orleans. Far less than that I'd imagine. But I hope you realize we can't stay here the whole night.
This is the home to a single chick and she's most likely out partying tonight and she'll be home
before the sun comes up." "I know, I know." Leo grumbled, burying her face into the cushion–
crinkling her nose as the couch pleaded her to stay. If she had the strength to whisk away the soft
piece of heaven with her she would've in a heartbeat. "But can't we just improvise if the owners do
come?" She looked ahead and caught the moonlight that poured through the ivory pane doors,
reminding her that the room was not hers. It was never hers. What belonged to her, however, was a
shabby miniature apartment that resided in downtown New Orleans–wherever distant that location
could have been at that moment. Still, in her mind, Leo romantically considered that this loft existed
just for her–a ticket past socioeconomic borders even if it was just for a night. What transpires in the
life of a middle–class resident of the city? Would they view the streets as Leo had? She
absentmindedly kicked her feet. Questions that needed more digging into displayed themselves in
front of her, begging to be answered. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Basement Of Ivory Tower
Have you ever had an extraordinary desire for something, only to have someone tell you it is out of
your reach? Does that make you try harder, or completely give up? In Professor X's essay, In the
basement of Ivory Tower, (X) he goes into great detail stating how his students have the desire to
maintain high academic standards in order to receive a promotion, to further their career, or because
it is a job requirement. However, these same students cannot possibly pass their classes due to their
lack of abilities. Initially, I found myself believing the author was hostile and unhappy in his career,
although, the more I read this article I found myself shifting opinions, and I began to appreciate
what a controversial topic college education truly is. Professor X discusses how some students are
unfit for college. I believe that college isn't for everyone. Furthermore, society has set expectations
that everyone should attend college. As a society we have lost track of the value of apprentice
programs.
My whole life I have heard that college isn't something you think about doing it is simply something
everyone must do. I cannot help but believe that there are some very valid points to Professor X's
article, for example, when he states that some students are simply unfit for the academic level that
college requires. The author states, "Everyone wants to triumph. But not everyone can–in fact, most
can't." (X, par. 47) In other words, Professor X believes that some students

The Felix Valle House State Historic Site
On November 20, 2016, David, Morgan, and I visited the Felix Valle House State Historic Site. It is
located at 198 Market Street in Saint Genevieve, Missouri. This site was built in the early 1800's.
The initial construction of the house began in 1818 and the earliest recorded date of construction
beginning was January 1st. It was started by a man named Jacob Philipson. Mr. Philipson was a
Jewish merchant from Philadelphia who moved to Saint Louis in 1808. He moved his business
down to Saint Genevieve in 1811 and in April of 1818 he purchased a lot of ground. On this ground,
Philipson built a one–and–a–half story Federal Style home which would end up containing both his
personal living quarters and his store. The lot was also home to a ... Show more content on

There was a relaxing feeling coming from the room. The colors were pretty mellow such as the
cream–colored walls. Although the room gave off this aura, there was a very elegant tea set in the
middle of the room. The wall contained a fireplace while the corner of the room contained a
combination of both a bookshelf and a desk. The desk had a pair of golden glasses that belonged to
one of the men who lived in the home (I can't recall exactly who they belonged to). Aside from these
things, the room also contained what looked like a very comfortable couch. The guide stated that all
of the pieces in the house aside from one fireplace and most of the replicated sales pieces in the
General Store. Moving back to the dining room, you receive a more formal feeling from the room.
There was a table set up for dinner which had two styles of dining were set up. Three of the four
styles were American Style. These had the engravings on the silverware engraved on the front.
However, there was one setting setup different. This setting was the French Style. The only thing
different from the American Style here was that the engravings were found on the back. This
showed us yet again how the times were changing over from French Style to American Style in what
would become Federal Style. Moving from the downstairs to the home's upstairs, you enter a set of

Waterproofing Myths
3 Myths About Basement Waterproofing
Homeowners with basements are well aware of the potential problems it has, which includes
flooding, mold, and mildew issues. Thankfully, there are several methods available to you for
basement waterproofing. Before you pick a method to use for your basement, it's important to
understand the truth behind the following 3 myths.
Damp Proofing Inside A Home Prevents Moisture From Seeping Inside
Tar is a great way to help keep your basement dry, but it will not completely eliminate moisture in a
basement. It's typical for homes to have a concrete or brick basement, which are materials that are
very porous. Rainwater can eventually seep into the concrete or bricks, which will cause
condensation to form.

It is important to repair cracks immediately instead of letting them get worse. Unfortunately, you
need to fix the parts of the crack that you can and cannot see if you want to fix it properly.
Otherwise, a patch over a visible crack is only a costly temporary fix.
You'll need a contractor to do exterior crack repair to ensure the problem is fixed properly. It's a
more involved repair process, since they will need to dig around your home to get access to the
basement's exterior walls. They will apply polymer material to the outside of the walls, which will
become a protective barrier against water and moisture, preventing it from getting inside.
Waterproofing Material Installed Under your Floor Prevents Dampness
Cracks can be very troubling in a basement, which is why some homeowners decide to have a
waterproof underlay installed underneath the surface of the basement floor. It works great for places
like a bathroom, since moisture is present and not very prevalent, but not so great for a basement
floor. The waterproof underlay isn't fool proof. While it can help prevent humidity from building up,
keeping your floor dry, it shouldn't be the only

The And Of The Basement
We decided to have Timmy open the door. That way, if the undead occupant of the basement was
actually at the top of the stairs, we would be, hopefully, able to bring one or both of our weapons to
bear. We hoped to push the zombie down the stairwell; and, if we were lucky, that would create the
necessary trauma to the brain area to cause permanent death. "The needs of the many outweigh the
needs of the few," said Tim stoically with a knowing grin. "Or the one," added Dean. I had no idea
what they were talking about. As the door swung out, we lunged into the breach. The stairs before us
were empty. We could hear muffled sounds from the kitchen. "Here zombie, zombie, zombie..."
Dean called out, mimicking a master calling for his dog. We ... Show more content on

The zombie flew out and away, then connected with the steps. Bouncing off the step treads, it rolled
from back to neck to head as the being flipped down the stairs. We kept our distance, not wanting to
rush in, but content to wait and see the outcome of the fall. When the beast came to rest at the
bottom of the steps, we could clearly see, by the odd direction his neck bent, that he was going to
stay dead this time. Dean fearlessly took the lead once again, his descent slowing as he neared the
bottom. Gingerly, he avoided the crumpled heap of the zombie at the base of the stairs., taking great
pains to tiptoe around the leg that angled out, blocking the path. As I mirrored his movements, I
could clearly see where Dean had shot the now still undead. The bullet had definitely struck it in the
head, but it was more a glancing blow, enough to make it drop but obviously not enough to keep it
down. We made our way to the kitchen and began rifling through the cupboards, sometimes slipping
on the debris the undead had knocked on the floor. We avoided the blood–splattered areas from the
zombie's earlier head wound, searching only the untainted storage areas, not wanting to take any
risks with whatever contamination caused this outbreak. Most of the cupboards were empty. The
few that held anything at all were mostly pots, pans, paper products and empty plastic

Suspended Basement Ceiling
One of the most important things to consider when remodeling your basement is the basement
ceiling. People find basement ceilings a bit hideous and if you are of the same opinion, then you
need to do something about it. Most people want their basement to be warm and cozy, instead of that
desolate look often acquainted with an unfinished basement. There are different basement ceiling
ideas to make your ceiling a place that you want it to be. Basement ceilings may either be dry walled
or suspended. You can choose which kind to install but always remember to add decorative touches
in order to make them look exactly like any other rooms in your home.

Essay On Bungalows
The Bungalows: A Brief History.
Introduction:
America has been in a love affair with the Bungalow style houses for more than two torrid decades.
This exotic word Anglo has been derived from Indian language, which came to be a new American
house style. The word bungalow has been around for more than hundreds of years, but did not
brought up anything sooner.
When the English travelled to India, they described their homes built by the native labour as long,
low buildings with wide verandas and deep hanging eaves. Wide roofs, first made of thatch and then
later made fireproof tile, enclosed in an isolated air lock technology against tropical heat. Later, in
the early 1870's, builders of the new fashionable English referenced as "The Bungalows". Giving
them a rough, exotic and ready–made image.
The Bungalow Style showed up in America, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not very far from its first use in the early 19th Century.
In North America and Britain, that has a second story built into a sloppy shape on top, with small
windows. The bungalow style houses are usually small and separated from other houses, that's the
reason it is so inexpensive to build. The Bungalow Style became popular when the middle class
families started to move from apartments to private homes. Bungalows were the only best option for
them, because of their inexpensiveness to build and low profile with an extra unique style in the
American Community. It was the perfect option for those people, who didn't have any contact to
large building companies and builders.
The main feature of the Bungalow Style is a convenient floor plan for their owners, because all the
living places are present on a single floor. Because it is conducive for a person using a wheelchair or
with any other disability. Most of the houses order through regular mail included bookshelf, desks

Symbolism In The Book Thief
In The Book Thief, Mark Zusak uses symbolism throughout the story to create a profound meaning
behind characters actions , bringing more emotion and significance to the plot. Character Hans
Hubermann's accordion symbolizes many different aspects including comfort and hope, eventually
affecting most characters throughout the plot of the story. The colors Blue and Red are used by death
throughout the novel to symbolize scenes of good and evil. Lastly, Basements symbolize a safe and
calm environment towards Max Vandenburg but also symbolizes constant danger and fear for the
Hubermanns are committing a crime by hiding Max. In The Book Thief, symbolism channels a
relationship between characters and certain aspects of the story. Hans' accordion, colors , and the
basement are symbols creating a more interesting plot by signifying ideas and qualities.
To Liesel Meminger, the accordion is a symbol of prosperity, hope, and a distraction. Through times
of distress, Hans' accordion was there to soothe and relax her. When liesel arrived at Himmel street
she was overwhelmingly nervous and scared but one thing that gave her hope was the beautiful
sound of Hans' accordion. On september 19, 1942 Liesel experienced a very real and horrific air raid
forcing members of the community to seek shelter in the Fielders basement. Liesel remembered the
accordions ability to alleviate stress from a situation and wanted the community to experience the
same. This lead liesel into reading The Whistler.

Malmar McKnight’s The Storm Essay
Malmar McKnight's The Storm
Malmar McKnight's frightening story, "The Storm", weaves a violent storm and murder together to
heighten the horrific fears that engulf Janet Willsom. "The Storm" is a combination of Mother
Nature, Janet's emotions, and her heartbreaking dilemmas. The eerie mood is revealed throughout
the story. Figurative language helps the reader bring the story to life in his/ her mind. The author's
use of irony is devolved through Janet's changed perception of the storm.
Throughout the story, the mood becomes more suspenseful. As Janet walks out of the strong spring
storm and enters her cold damp house, she is overcome by feelings of isolation and loneliness. Her
husband is not there; there are dead plants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She also thinks that she sees a face in the window. As she enters the damp, musty, ill–lit cellar you
can feel the suspense building. Malmar continues to use these types of images up to the conclusion
of the story.
The author uses a lot of figurative language throughout the story. The forceful wind is compared to a
dog shaking a rat between its teeth. As Janet tried to calm herself, the idea that a dead woman was in
the basement of her house began to beat at her like a flail. The idea that she was frozen with freight
was illustrated by her body being like a drawn bow. Examples of more figurative language can be
found throughout the text.
The most obvious idea of irony is the storm itself. In the beginning of the story, Janet felt the storm
was scary and her house and husband were the only areas of safety. She had confined herself to one
area of the house and snuggled in her husband's coat to keep the storm from surrounding her. At the
end when her husband frightened her, Janet no longer felt safe at home or with her husband. So she
ran out into the raging storm for protection from within. It is ironic that the storm in the beginning
was her greatest fear and in the end, it became her greatest ally.
The author's frightening story, "The Storm" has all the expected things that a good scary story
should have. It has a story line that gains suspense throughout the story, there is irony, and there is
lots of

Choosing An Agent For A Fun Ride
My husband and I knew we were going to be in for a fun ride since we were first time home buyers.
For some time we had been preparing for this immense steep to take. Before we even knew it, it was
time to purchase a home. We had done some home searching online, looking at the different price
ranges of homes, their locations, and the square footage, crime rates for different areas, schools
among others. We thought we were ready. Choosing an Agent to help us in the process was an easy
task, it only took a couple of phones calls. Knowing what we wanted in a house was also an easy
task; we had a price range and our list of what our dream house would need to have was fairly
simple. Three houses we're on our list; a cottage style home, a very particular ghostly house and our
now home. The first home was a warm and inviting cottage style home. Its light blue chipped paint,
showed that this house had not been vacated or taken care of for some time, its red foreclose sign in
the yard clarified it. The first thing you could noticed as you walked through the arched framed front
door was the wood flooring throughout the dining and living room. The house had three rooms, one
in each level of the house; main, second and basement. The spacious master bedroom was upstairs,
with more windows than walls. We loved it, all that bright sunlight gave the impression that the
room was bigger than already was. The other bedroom was smaller but perfect for to be our son's
play room. The

Case Study On Slip House
Project Title: Slip House
Architect: Carl Turner (Of Carl Turner Architects)
Clients: Carl Turner and Mary Martin
Completion: 2012
Location: 51A, Lyham Road, Brixton, London, SW2 5DS, UK. The house can also be found
through its coordinates: 51.456711, –0.128318 .
The house was built in a traditional Victorian area in Brixton, but the building itself is far from a
classic Victorian design. Slip House gets its name as it is made up of three simple 'slipped'
orthogonal boxes. This building was chosen because it is recognised as one of the best designed
private houses of 2013, as well as being one of the most eco–friendly, sustainable homes in the UK
to date. Slip House has been the recipient of, and shortlisted for, a number of awards in both 2012
and 2013. What puts it ahead of its time is its mix of energy–efficient credentials, making a highly
desirable model for a family terrace home that is almost energy–bill free.
Minimalistic mentalism along with the desire for flexibility were to key factors in the design on the
building. The building is divided up into three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

into a design from the outset. In fact the building was such a success that Carl Turner Architects
have expanded by beginning to construct a second building on a site beside Slip House which still
conforms to the sustainable ideas of the original. Also the firm are expanding from their comfort of
working with private buildings and are in discussions with housebuilders about plans to build a

What Is My Dream House Essay
Places we spend our life is veru significant because our moods are affected by the design and

simplicity is not enough when it comes about my dream house. My dream house would still be

Basement Flooding
Basements are an essential part of homes in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They get turned into recreational
rooms for the grandchildren, small apartments for graduate students, and even storage spaces. So
when one of them floods, it is a very discouraging and expensive mess that no one looks forward to.
Because of this, it helps to know a few things about basement flooding that can help prevent some
of the damage from occurring.
The Correlation Between the Seasons and Flooding
Basements can flood no matter what the weather is outside. But the spring is the most common time
of the year for this catastrophe to occur. Michigan gets a huge amount of snowfall and ice each
winter, which won't do damage until the warmer weather hits. The increase in the temperature ...

However, even new bricks, mortar, and cement can all begin to crumble if they are exposed to too
much moisture for too long. So the next common cause of basement flooding is poor drainage.
Water has to be diverted away, so the house will stay dry. And the last cause of basement flooding
has to do with the plumbing. If water or sewer lines happen to break, they can make a huge mess.
Preventing Flooding
Ann Arbor, Michigan residents have unique challenges when it comes to home maintenance. The
spring is the most common time of the year for flooding to occur, but there is little that can be done
to fix this problem in the winter season that happens beforehand. It is just too cold and wet outside
to do any repairs. So this means that work done to prevent floods usually has to happen in the
summer or early fall seasons. Some of the preventative repairs that can be done during this time
include:
Digging french drains to trap water away from the home
Inspecting the outside of the home for signs of cracks or loose bricks where water could get through

Pennsylvania American Architecture

Pennsylvania German Architecture Pennsylvania German architecture is very unique to
Southeastern, Pennsylvania. It spread through Pennsylvania; however, it is most prominent where it
originated in Southeast, Pennsylvania. Most homesteads consist of a main house, along with
domestic outbuildings. A domestic outbuilding is "an auxiliary building on a property, and one that
is functionally associated with the domestic aspect of the homestead, that is, with the work and other
activities that take place in the area of the dwelling." (Domestic Outbuildings, p. 66) The domestic
outbuildings that existed on most Pennsylvania German properties, in addition to the main house,
was the springhouse, the bakeoven, the root cellar, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An outdoor privy would allow for an enclosed space to use the bathroom. It would cover one or
more toilets. The idea of an outdoor privy is not unique to the Pennsylvania German culture and
architecture. It has been an idea that has been used for centuries in many different cultures and is
still used in developing countries today. Most outdoor privies were basic structures with lightly
framed structures; however, some of them were of higher class like the outdoor privy at the
Tulpehocken Manor. Tulpehocken Manor has "a large and elaborate Victorian privy, of frame
construction and sporting a tall cupola ventilator." (Domestic outbuildings, p. 85). These more
elaborate outbuildings were not as common. Bibliography

My Experience In My Life
As I lay in the back seat of the car, asleep I start getting really annoyed by all the restroom breaks
we have to take......Cause I just want to get there. But as my mom always says, "a good adventure
takes time to start, and an even better adventure is saddening to end." But it's not ending cause it
hasn't even started! That's when I realized I was daydreaming, and when my cousin Olivia, and
grandma woke me up I thought it was for another restroom break, but it wasn't. . .
When I slowly opened my tired eyes from the car ride, they filled with joy as I saw a big log house!
It had a huge deck, it was two stories, almost 3 because it was on a hill and it looked like it had a full
basement! We walked inside and it had a huge living room, really nice kitchen, and a big bathroom.
. . My aunt told Olivia and I to go check out the upstairs. It has 3 bedrooms. One for Olivia, the
others was for My aunt Midge and Bo. I was confused. . .
"Where's my room?" I said, with a sad look on my face. She said, "Go look down stairs, around the
corner, and through the door on the left." I smiled and ran down the stairs. . . I was even more
confused. That's the way to the Basement, I thought in my head. There were carpet stairs. Then at
the end of the stairs, there was two ways to go. There was a small toy room to the left with a
bathroom. I went right. . . Filled with excitement, and so amazed, I see an amazingly big room!
There was a flat screen TV, ping pong table, and 2 couches. Then I saw

Essay on The Basement Types; interpreted
Amanda DeFrehn
Professor T.J. Boynton
English 201
1 April 2014 In the book, The Old Weird America, the author, Greil Marcus, interprets Bob Dylan's
album, The Basement Tapes, and its "weird" views on the old America. Marcus compares Dylan's
music to several well–known people's music and speeches in such a way to support his argument
about how past historical events affected the public eye. He believes that the mood, instrumentation,
and not as noticeably, the lyrics all lead up to the fear, wonder, and curiosity for when Judgment Day
will arrive. He portrays the album as an America where the puritans were against the pioneers,
suggesting the Puritans settled the land where they were free to practice religion while pioneers
settled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marcus also implies that the album shows the clash between the puritans and the pioneers. " ...the
Puritan climbs down from the pioneer's back, here that the pioneer bucks the Puritan off..."(64),
implying that the songs in the album have to do with wanting the Puritan, who still has power and
bases everything off religion, to jump off the pioneers back, who want to live the American dream.
Marcus shows how religion started changing music and artists started revising folk music, "...rock
steady revision of "Like a Rolling Stone," Dylan's huge hit of the summer before...new verses
written as if straight from the Old Testament Apocrypha." (69), Marcus feels that it's important to
include in the book, because it shows how religion, or the Puritans, had an effect on music. The
Puritans also had an effect on some artists, changing folk music to what seemed to be music out of
the Old Testament. The pioneers want the Puritans to stop pushing religion on them so they can live
the lifestyle they chose, which is to explore and find a new life– which is where the American dream
comes into play. The pioneers were out to find the American dream, a place where dreams come
true.

Why Did Gunsmith Shops Like Retail Shops
Gunsmith shops were not like retail shops today. Gunsmith shops were very small buildings
typically not on main streets of major towns. They usually built their shops out of stone because it
was fire resistance. They used gravel, flat stone, clay, or a mixture of these. They used this because
of its strong stainability to fire, and its long life span. The most basic shops had only two rooms.
One for metal working and one for wood working. The metal working room contained the forge and
the wood working room had many basic tools. Sometimes, their shops were located on their
personal property. As tensions arise between the colonists and the British, gunsmiths had to work
longer hours and they had to increase the amount of guns they made. In result, gunsmiths became

the exact measurements for the barrel Gunsmiths also used a device similar to the boring bench.
They used a rifling bench its job was to cut a series of spiral groves into a rifle. This made the bullet

Gunsmiths and blacksmiths both used very similar tools because they both worked with metal.

Finished Basement
Though you may not realize it, your basement can be a major asset. In addition to enhanced storage
options and added living space to energy conservation and increased property value, finishing your
home basement can offer an array of benefits. Below, the basement remodeling experts at Best
Custom Homes in West Salem, WI outline a few of the main advantages.
Benefits of a Finished Basement
It's Cheaper Than You Might Expect
The majority of basement remodeling projects are far less costly than homeowners anticipate,
especially when compared to other major of home improvements. In fact, the price per square per
square foot is often less costly than any other room of the house. Home improvements like kitchen

Basement apartments can be just as fancy as any other living space – and may actually offer more
living space than traditional apartment units. Depending on your neighborhood and mortgage
payment amount, you may be able to request 50–75% of your monthly mortgage as a monthly rent
payment.
Flexible Living Space
Finishing your basement can double your home's available living space. This space can be used for
nearly any purpose: a home gym or office, private living quarters for the in laws, a "man cave" for
video gaming and Sunday football games, or even a children's play area. Your imagination is the
only limit.
Storage Galore
Finishing your basement is an excellent way to organize your home. Many homeowners "organize"
spare junk and stray boxes in random corners and closets around the home. A basement is the ideal
place to organize all of the things that do not belong elsewhere or that are used on a limited basis,
such as winter sports equipment or holiday decorations, saving you a bundle on a rented storage

Personal Narrative: My Abuela's House
At younger ages, my niece Mckenzie and I used to go to my abuela's house all the time. The old
woman with the Panamanian accent loved spending time with her family, and it gave my parents
and brother a break from watching over us. Mckenzie and I had many places where we would play,
but none as often as the basement. Speeding down the carpeted stairs to the basement of Abuela's
house would almost feel like stumbling off of a series of ledges. If we had not turned the light on,
the darkness would threaten to consume us on the way down. Reaching the bottom of the stairs,
another challenge would present itself: turning the lights in the basement on. Little hands would
scramble on the wall separating the staircase from the basement until they ... Show more content on

A year and a half older than me, Mckenzie would act as the older sister while I would play the
younger brother. The large square of carpet protected our feet from the cold concrete floor as we
interacted with the toy kitchen and our baby brother, a battery powered Elmo doll that had lost the
ability to do anything but shake. The rushing of water through the pipes provided sound effects for
when we would pretend to go to the bathroom or brush our teeth. While usually normal, sometimes
our family would have future vision, like we saw on the show "That's So Raven," or superpowers.
No matter how different our family was, though, we never missed "Sunday" Mass. If we weren't
playing house, we were probably playing school. This game allowed for the use of the two
whiteboard easels, with numbers on the wooden frame. Unusable, one of the whiteboards ended up
with a face drawn on it in permanent marker by the kid of one of the women who would clean
Abuela's house. The students in our game of school varied throughout the games. At times, our
students would simply be imaginary. Other times, our Webkinz would take the place of our students.
The games that I enjoyed the least were the ones where Mckenzie would teach me, the

A Personal Experience : 45 Minutes Of Terror
45 Minutes of Terror I had just woken up to violent rays of sunshine sneaking through my window.
It was the summer of 2015 and it was a Wednesday. The house was hushed. Our parents were at
work so my sister, Kendallyn, and I stayed home. As I trudged through house, I saw that an
astronomical pile of clothes was waiting on me in the living room and a gargantuan pile of dishes
was lingering in the kitchen sink. It was 9:00 A.M. and I was starving, but we had no food in the
fridge or cabinets because my mom had yet to go to the grocery store. Kendallyn decided to finally

kicked in. We were fully prepared because we had made a plan. We had no real weapons, but we did
have my older sister's batons she used as a majorette. We decided that if they could unintentionally
break a nose, they would prove to be valuable for intentional injury if need be. We waited for what
seemed like hours in our little corner of the basement, but was really only about 40 minutes until I
decided we needed a phone. Kendallyn stealthily ran up the stairs to check on the invaders status
before I made a break to my room. I sprinted and did a ninja roll down the hall and into the living
room and snatched my phone from the table. To my surprise, I saw I had 15 missed calls from aunt
and 3 from my grandmother. I called them back and was astonished to learn they had waited outside
our house in the sweltering heat for 45 minutes because they wanted to see Kendallyn's pig and were
wondering why we have not made our way outside to greet them. Finally, we met them on the porch
after our 45–minute terror. We told them our story and they ridiculed us for a good 15 minutes. We
let them see the pig, we got them a drink for the road, and sent them on their way. I

Basement Condensation
Tips For Drying Out Basement Condensation
If you're having problems with a wet or damp basement, the first thing you want to do is figure out
the reason for the problem. That helps you determine the best way to fix the situation. For instance,
your wet basement may be caused by condensation. If that's the case, you may be able to dry it out
yourself. Here are some tips for dealing with a wet basement when it is caused by condensation.
Control The Climate
Condensation forms on your basement walls and floor when there is a temperature difference in the
basement. If it is hot and humid outdoors and you vent your basement to the outside or open a
window, then the warm air will create dampness when it enters your cool basement. Water drops
form on the walls and floor creating streaks, puddles, and increased humidity that causes a musty
smell. In the winter, condensation may form when heated hair from upstairs leaks into your
basement. If you control the temperature and humidity levels in your basement, then you can better
control the amount of condensation you have to deal with. Things you can try include running a
dehumidifier, using fans to circulate air, and venting humid, hot air from a clothes dryer to the
outside. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You do this by adding insulation. Wrap insulation around all exposed plumbing pipes to keep water
from forming on them and dripping to the floor. Also, consider adding insulation to the walls of your
basement. Even if you just use your basement for storage and don't care about its appearance, having
insulated, finished walls will make the walls warmer and less likely to collect dampness.
Avoid Adding

Exits were by means of a stairway to the main dining room and by the door into the passageway, and
into the adjoining room occupied by the heating plant, which had an exit to Shawmut Street, called
the service door.
The heating plant was contained in a room approx. 16 feet by 40 feet in size, on the Shawmut Street

My Adulthood Memories And Memories Of A Childhood Home
Places are more than less often full of memories. Rooms have narratives that can be told through the
items and furniture they contain. These narratives are often overlooked and not thought about,
especially in places where one does not want to spend a particularly large amount of time. Rooms
speak, even though we often don't want to listen, or don't want to know. Basements are often like
this, full of broken thing and memories, knee–deep castaways, childhood toys and holiday lights.
The basement in my childhood home is this way, completely divided into then and now; simply,
entirely, depressing. This room is split into two distinct halves. The stairs are creaky and off–white,
stained grey and black from soda spills, muddy shoes, snow slush and dirty dog feet. Clumps of dog
hair sit in the corners of each step, wrapped up into dust balls. At the bottom, to the immediate left,
is where a playroom used to be. There are drawings and old bits of paper stuck up on the walls,
hinting as to what this space used to contain. Now, a large, professional–grade ping–pong table sits
in the middle of the room. Once loved, the table is now stacked high with towels and laundry. On
the wall parallel to the length of the table is a child's growth chart, drawn in Sharpie on the rigid

Who Is David Adjaye Sunken House
Sunken House Analysis
One of the things that most architects strive to achieve in their work is to make it stand out and
really add to its location's surroundings. This was definitely accomplished by David Adjaye in his
"Sunken House" project. In 2007, Adjaye designed a house for photographer Ed Reeve which is
why today it is also called "Ed's Shed." However, the "Sunken House" is also a very deserving
name. On the lot there was a space already dug out for a basement foundation, however Adjaye had
no intentions of including some traditional basement. Instead, he used the lowered area to make a
hidden first floor, and then have the driveway connect to the second floor rather than the first/ground
floor. This is just the beginning of some of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of the simple box style he uses, most all of the walls were constructed off site and then
assemble or put together on site. This caused the actual construction process of this building to be
completed in just weeks with efficiency that should be considered rather innovative. This shows that
even the way something comes together can be part of design or architecture. Ultimately the end
result or final product can reflect to the process and the journey made to get to it, which is just
another outstanding design reflected in Adjaye's project.
In conclusion there are many innovative or modernized design styles of Adjaye in this "Sunken
House" project, and many of his other projects reflect similar design concepts. This just goes to
show that you can really see an artist, a designer, and also an architect as they mature in their design
concepts and as they gain experience and go through their career. Also however, it is important to
maintain your design concepts and build upon them to improve your work and set apart yourself
from others, just like your work will set apart itself form its

Questions On The And The Floor Of The Elevator
I. Introduction
Lillian Hummel is the daughter of Eleanor Mingle. Just after 9 a.m. on August 6, 2014, Hummel
saw her mother into the elevator on the twelfth floor of their apartment building. After a brief stop
on the ninth floor, the elevator plummeted into the ground floor killing Mingle. Hummel then
brought claim for negligent infliction of emotion distress ("NIED") against Elite Elevator Company
("Elite"), which maintained the elevator. To recover for NIED, a party must [1] be closely related to
the injury victim, [2] be present at the scene of the injury–producing event at the time it occurs, [3]
be aware that it is causing injury to the victim and [4] as a result suffer emotional distress beyond
that which would be anticipated in a disinterested witness. Thing v. La Chusa, 48 Cal.3d 645 (1989).
This memorandum will address only the first three elements of the four elements set forth in Thing.
Hummel will likely be able to establish that she was closely related to the victim, present at the
scene, and aware that the incident contemporaneously injured her mother because she was
reasonably certain that Mingle was on the elevator at the time of the crash.
II. Question Presented
Was Hummel [1] closely related to her mother; [2] present at the time her mother was killed in the
elevator crash; [3] aware of her mother's location an instant before the event and that her mother was
being injured during the crash?
III. Brief Answer
A court will likely rule that Hummel

Almost everyone has surge protection power strips in their home for TVs and computers. However,
strips shouldn't be considered a primary protective device, but rather are a last line of defense in a
surge protection system. In addition, it's essential to realize surge protection strips provide no

Moving Out Of My House In Iowa Falls

  • 1. Moving Out Of My House In Iowa Falls The house that built me Never in a million years did I think that I would be moving out of my house in Iowa Falls. Growing up my dream had always been to someday move back to Iowa Falls, and live in that house. That was until my mom and dad sat me down on the porch after one of my baseball games and broke the news that we'd be moving to Clear Lake after baseball season. I had had known for a couple months that there was a good chance that we were going to be moving. I sat there on the enclosed front porch looking out around the neighborhood thinking about all the great times that I'd had at that house. When you would approach my house you would notice a large evergreen tree sitting right outside our house, it used to look like one of those big Christmas Trees that you'd see on tv getting lit up, but it got a disease that killed a lot of the branches. The branches that were left on the tree were like ladders making it perfect for climbing. There were many days that my brothers and I would have contests to see how could climb to the top, we were all scared of heights so we never got too high. The house itself was a three ... The times when the lights weren't on I'd always sprint up the stairs and never look back, because you never know what could be following you. Once you got the lights on though the basement was a pretty cool place. It was a huge room with a couple couches and a pool table in it. There was an opening in between the pool table and couch sitting area where me and my brothers would play tackle football when we were kids, until one day when I got tackled and cracked my head open on the pool table. After that mom didn't really let us play football in the basement. The basement is kinda where me and my brothers lived when we were hanging out at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When the responding apparatus arrived they found a small car fire at the corner of Stuart Street and Broadway. After the fire was extinguished the firefighters were about to return to quarters when their attention was called to smoke emanating from the Cocoanut Grove Nightclub a few doors away. Upon their arrival at the entrance of the Broadway lounge on Broadway they encountered numerous people leaving the premises admidst the cries of "fire". The chief in charge immediately ordered that a third alarm be sounded from Alarm Box 1521 which the alarm was received by fire alarm headquarters at 2223 hrs. A ... It had been opened to the public only recently and was located on the east end of the premises on the first floor of a second–class building consisting of three stories, and an attic (59 Broadway). The second floor of this building contained motors and a locker room for employees was on the third floor. The public only had access to the first floor. Connection with the first class structure, containing the main dining room, was by means of a passageway. The Broadway Lounge contained a men's and women's washrooms, bar, coatroom, tables and chairs. The walls were paneled with artificial leather attached on plywood. The ceiling was of soundproof construction and fluorescent lights attached to this surface. The floor was wood covered by carpet. Contract for a ventilating system was signed in September or October 1942 calling for a supply and exhaust system.

  • 10. New Orleans Narrative "Quarter Million? Doubt it. Though this room looks nice, I'd say this is a typical loft in New Orleans. Far less than that I'd imagine. But I hope you realize we can't stay here the whole night. This is the home to a single chick and she's most likely out partying tonight and she'll be home before the sun comes up." "I know, I know." Leo grumbled, burying her face into the cushion– crinkling her nose as the couch pleaded her to stay. If she had the strength to whisk away the soft piece of heaven with her she would've in a heartbeat. "But can't we just improvise if the owners do come?" She looked ahead and caught the moonlight that poured through the ivory pane doors, reminding her that the room was not hers. It was never hers. What belonged to her, however, was a shabby miniature apartment that resided in downtown New Orleans–wherever distant that location could have been at that moment. Still, in her mind, Leo romantically considered that this loft existed just for her–a ticket past socioeconomic borders even if it was just for a night. What transpires in the life of a middle–class resident of the city? Would they view the streets as Leo had? She absentmindedly kicked her feet. Questions that needed more digging into displayed themselves in front of her, begging to be answered. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 14. The Basement Of Ivory Tower Have you ever had an extraordinary desire for something, only to have someone tell you it is out of your reach? Does that make you try harder, or completely give up? In Professor X's essay, In the basement of Ivory Tower, (X) he goes into great detail stating how his students have the desire to maintain high academic standards in order to receive a promotion, to further their career, or because it is a job requirement. However, these same students cannot possibly pass their classes due to their lack of abilities. Initially, I found myself believing the author was hostile and unhappy in his career, although, the more I read this article I found myself shifting opinions, and I began to appreciate what a controversial topic college education truly is. Professor X discusses how some students are unfit for college. I believe that college isn't for everyone. Furthermore, society has set expectations that everyone should attend college. As a society we have lost track of the value of apprentice programs. My whole life I have heard that college isn't something you think about doing it is simply something everyone must do. I cannot help but believe that there are some very valid points to Professor X's article, for example, when he states that some students are simply unfit for the academic level that college requires. The author states, "Everyone wants to triumph. But not everyone can–in fact, most can't." (X, par. 47) In other words, Professor X believes that some students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is located at 198 Market Street in Saint Genevieve, Missouri. This site was built in the early 1800's. The initial construction of the house began in 1818 and the earliest recorded date of construction beginning was January 1st. It was started by a man named Jacob Philipson. Mr. Philipson was a Jewish merchant from Philadelphia who moved to Saint Louis in 1808. He moved his business down to Saint Genevieve in 1811 and in April of 1818 he purchased a lot of ground. On this ground, Philipson built a one–and–a–half story Federal Style home which would end up containing both his personal living quarters and his store. The lot was also home to a ... The desk had a pair of golden glasses that belonged to one of the men who lived in the home (I can't recall exactly who they belonged to). Aside from these things, the room also contained what looked like a very comfortable couch. Thankfully, there are several methods available to you for basement waterproofing. Before you pick a method to use for your basement, it's important to understand the truth behind the following 3 myths. Damp Proofing Inside A Home Prevents Moisture From Seeping Inside Tar is a great way to help keep your basement dry, but it will not completely eliminate moisture in a basement. It's typical for homes to have a concrete or brick basement, which are materials that are very porous. Rainwater can eventually seep into the concrete or bricks, which will cause condensation to form. You ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important to repair cracks immediately instead of letting them get worse. Unfortunately, you need to fix the parts of the crack that you can and cannot see if you want to fix it properly. Otherwise, a patch over a visible crack is only a costly temporary fix. You'll need a contractor to do exterior crack repair to ensure the problem is fixed properly. It's a more involved repair process, since they will need to dig around your home to get access to the basement's exterior walls. They will apply polymer material to the outside of the walls, which will become a protective barrier against water and moisture, preventing it from getting inside. Waterproofing Material Installed Under your Floor Prevents Dampness Cracks can be very troubling in a basement, which is why some homeowners decide to have a waterproof underlay installed underneath the surface of the basement floor. It works great for places like a bathroom, since moisture is present and not very prevalent, but not so great for a basement floor. The waterproof underlay isn't fool proof. • 26. The And Of The Basement We decided to have Timmy open the door. That way, if the undead occupant of the basement was actually at the top of the stairs, we would be, hopefully, able to bring one or both of our weapons to bear. We hoped to push the zombie down the stairwell; and, if we were lucky, that would create the necessary trauma to the brain area to cause permanent death. "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few," said Tim stoically with a knowing grin. "Or the one," added Dean. I had no idea what they were talking about. As the door swung out, we lunged into the breach. The stairs before us were empty. We could hear muffled sounds from the kitchen. "Here zombie, zombie, zombie..." Dean called out, mimicking a master calling for his dog. We ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The zombie flew out and away, then connected with the steps. Bouncing off the step treads, it rolled from back to neck to head as the being flipped down the stairs. We kept our distance, not wanting to rush in, but content to wait and see the outcome of the fall. When the beast came to rest at the bottom of the steps, we could clearly see, by the odd direction his neck bent, that he was going to stay dead this time. Dean fearlessly took the lead once again, his descent slowing as he neared the bottom. Gingerly, he avoided the crumpled heap of the zombie at the base of the stairs., taking great pains to tiptoe around the leg that angled out, blocking the path. As I mirrored his movements, I could clearly see where Dean had shot the now still undead. The bullet had definitely struck it in the head, but it was more a glancing blow, enough to make it drop but obviously not enough to keep it down. We made our way to the kitchen and began rifling through the cupboards, sometimes slipping on the debris the undead had knocked on the floor. We avoided the blood–splattered areas from the zombie's earlier head wound, searching only the untainted storage areas, not wanting to take any risks with whatever contamination caused this outbreak. This exotic word Anglo has been derived from Indian language, which came to be a new American house style. The word bungalow has been around for more than hundreds of years, but did not brought up anything sooner. When the English travelled to India, they described their homes built by the native labour as long, low buildings with wide verandas and deep hanging eaves. Wide roofs, first made of thatch and then later made fireproof tile, enclosed in an isolated air lock technology against tropical heat. Later, in the early 1870's, builders of the new fashionable English referenced as "The Bungalows". Giving them a rough, exotic and ready–made image. The Bungalow Style showed up in America, in ... The Bungalow Style became popular when the middle class families started to move from apartments to private homes. Bungalows were the only best option for them, because of their inexpensiveness to build and low profile with an extra unique style in the American Community. It was the perfect option for those people, who didn't have any contact to large building companies and builders. • 38. Symbolism In The Book Thief In The Book Thief, Mark Zusak uses symbolism throughout the story to create a profound meaning behind characters actions , bringing more emotion and significance to the plot. Character Hans Hubermann's accordion symbolizes many different aspects including comfort and hope, eventually affecting most characters throughout the plot of the story. The colors Blue and Red are used by death throughout the novel to symbolize scenes of good and evil. Lastly, Basements symbolize a safe and calm environment towards Max Vandenburg but also symbolizes constant danger and fear for the Hubermanns are committing a crime by hiding Max. In The Book Thief, symbolism channels a relationship between characters and certain aspects of the story. Hans' accordion, colors , and the basement are symbols creating a more interesting plot by signifying ideas and qualities. To Liesel Meminger, the accordion is a symbol of prosperity, hope, and a distraction. Through times of distress, Hans' accordion was there to soothe and relax her. When liesel arrived at Himmel street she was overwhelmingly nervous and scared but one thing that gave her hope was the beautiful sound of Hans' accordion. On september 19, 1942 Liesel experienced a very real and horrific air raid forcing members of the community to seek shelter in the Fielders basement. Liesel remembered the accordions ability to alleviate stress from a situation and wanted the community to experience the same. This lead liesel into reading The Whistler. ... Malmar McKnight’s The Storm Essay Malmar McKnight's The Storm Malmar McKnight's frightening story, "The Storm", weaves a violent storm and murder together to heighten the horrific fears that engulf Janet Willsom. "The Storm" is a combination of Mother Nature, Janet's emotions, and her heartbreaking dilemmas. The eerie mood is revealed throughout the story. Figurative language helps the reader bring the story to life in his/ her mind. The author's use of irony is devolved through Janet's changed perception of the storm. Throughout the story, the mood becomes more suspenseful. As Janet walks out of the strong spring storm and enters her cold damp house, she is overcome by feelings of isolation and loneliness. Her husband is not there; there are dead plants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She also thinks that she sees a face in the window. As she enters the damp, musty, ill–lit cellar you can feel the suspense building. Malmar continues to use these types of images up to the conclusion of the story. The author uses a lot of figurative language throughout the story. The forceful wind is compared to a dog shaking a rat between its teeth. As Janet tried to calm herself, the idea that a dead woman was in the basement of her house began to beat at her like a flail. The idea that she was frozen with freight was illustrated by her body being like a drawn bow. Examples of more figurative language can be found throughout the text. The most obvious idea of irony is the storm itself. In the beginning of the story, Janet felt the storm was scary and her house and husband were the only areas of safety. She had confined herself to one area of the house and snuggled in her husband's coat to keep the storm from surrounding her. At the end when her husband frightened her, Janet no longer felt safe at home or with her husband. So she ran out into the raging storm for protection from within. It is ironic that the storm in the beginning was her greatest fear and in the end, it became her greatest ally. The author's frightening story, "The Storm" has all the expected things that a good scary story should have. It has a story line that gains suspense throughout the story, there is irony, and there is lots of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Choosing An Agent For A Fun Ride My husband and I knew we were going to be in for a fun ride since we were first time home buyers. For some time we had been preparing for this immense steep to take. Before we even knew it, it was time to purchase a home. We had done some home searching online, looking at the different price ranges of homes, their locations, and the square footage, crime rates for different areas, schools among others. We thought we were ready. Choosing an Agent to help us in the process was an easy task, it only took a couple of phones calls. Knowing what we wanted in a house was also an easy task; we had a price range and our list of what our dream house would need to have was fairly simple. Three houses we're on our list; a cottage style home, a very particular ghostly house and our now home. The first home was a warm and inviting cottage style home. Its light blue chipped paint, showed that this house had not been vacated or taken care of for some time, its red foreclose sign in the yard clarified it. The first thing you could noticed as you walked through the arched framed front door was the wood flooring throughout the dining and living room. The house had three rooms, one in each level of the house; main, second and basement. The spacious master bedroom was upstairs, with more windows than walls. We loved it, all that bright sunlight gave the impression that the room was bigger than already was. The other bedroom was smaller but perfect for to be our son's play room. The ... The house can also be found through its coordinates: 51.456711, –0.128318 . Slip House has been the recipient of, and shortlisted for, a number of awards in both 2012 and 2013. In fact the building was such a success that Carl Turner Architects have expanded by beginning to construct a second building on a site beside Slip House which still conforms to the sustainable ideas of the original. So when one of them floods, it is a very discouraging and expensive mess that no one looks forward to. Boynton English 201 1 April 2014 In the book, The Old Weird America, the author, Greil Marcus, interprets Bob Dylan's album, The Basement Tapes, and its "weird" views on the old America. Marcus compares Dylan's music to several well–known people's music and speeches in such a way to support his argument about how past historical events affected the public eye. He believes that the mood, instrumentation, and not as noticeably, the lyrics all lead up to the fear, wonder, and curiosity for when Judgment Day will arrive. He portrays the album as an America where the puritans were against the pioneers, suggesting the Puritans settled the land where they were free to practice religion while pioneers settled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marcus also implies that the album shows the clash between the puritans and the pioneers. " ...the Puritan climbs down from the pioneer's back, here that the pioneer bucks the Puritan off..."(64), implying that the songs in the album have to do with wanting the Puritan, who still has power and bases everything off religion, to jump off the pioneers back, who want to live the American dream. Marcus shows how religion started changing music and artists started revising folk music, "...rock steady revision of "Like a Rolling Stone," Dylan's huge hit of the summer before...new verses written as if straight from the Old Testament Apocrypha." (69), Marcus feels that it's important to include in the book, because it shows how religion, or the Puritans, had an effect on music. The Puritans also had an effect on some artists, changing folk music to what seemed to be music out of the Old Testament. The pioneers want the Puritans to stop pushing religion on them so they can live the lifestyle they chose, which is to explore and find a new life– which is where the American dream comes into play. They usually built their shops out of stone because it was fire resistance. They used gravel, flat stone, clay, or a mixture of these. They used this because of its strong stainability to fire, and its long life span. The most basic shops had only two rooms. One for metal working and one for wood working. The metal working room contained the forge and the wood working room had many basic tools. Sometimes, their shops were located on their personal property. That helps you determine the best way to fix the situation. For instance, your wet basement may be caused by condensation. If that's the case, you may be able to dry it out yourself. Here are some tips for dealing with a wet basement when it is caused by condensation. Control The Climate Condensation forms on your basement walls and floor when there is a temperature difference in the basement. If it is hot and humid outdoors and you vent your basement to the outside or open a window, then the warm air will create dampness when it enters your cool basement. Water drops form on the walls and floor creating streaks, puddles, and increased humidity that causes a musty smell. In the winter, condensation may form when heated hair from upstairs leaks into your basement. If you control the temperature and humidity levels in your basement, then you can better control the amount of condensation you have to deal with. Things you can try include running a dehumidifier, using fans to circulate air, and venting humid, hot air from a clothes dryer to the outside. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You do this by adding insulation. Wrap insulation around all exposed plumbing pipes to keep water from forming on them and dripping to the floor. Also, consider adding insulation to the walls of your basement. Even if you just use your basement for storage and don't care about its appearance, having insulated, finished walls will make the walls warmer and less likely to collect dampness. Avoid Adding ... • 123. Summary Of Bones In The Basement Bones in the Basement by Lora Gray was an amazing mystery book, it had just the right amount of suspense and had an intriguing concept of time travel. Reading is one of my hobbies and once in a while, I enjoy a great mystery book because I can't wait to find out what happened, so most of the time I binge read these kinds of books. This particular book really had me interested when the Grandpa said, "I've got many scars from my travels, yet never aged from being gone. Even for years at a time" (Gray 205). I love it when books even remotely talk about immortality because I just find it so fascinating. Casa Batlló, located in the very heart of Passeig de Gràcia. The building that is now Casa Batlló was built in 1877 by Emilio Sala Cortés, commissioned by Lluís Sala Sánchez. The house was bought by Josep Batlló in 1900. In 1904 Josep Batlló Josep Batlló hired Antoni Gaudí to remodel Casa Batlló and to divide it into apartments.Gaudi added a fifth floor, completely revamped the interior, depressed the roof, and added a new facade. The building was completed and refurbished in 1906. 2 Like everything Gaudí designed, it is only identifiable as Modernisme or Art Nouveau in the broadest sense. The entire facade is tiled with a mosaic composed of pieces of glass and ceramic discs, giving an undulating surface. The final result is there for all to see: an overwhelming, evocative and suggestive masterpiece which has been known and admired for over a century. 3 Typical of Gaudí, straight lines are avoided whenever possible. The first floor features irregularly sculpted oval windows. Balconies at the lower floors have bone–like pillars, those on the upper floors look like pieces of skulls. These features gave the house the nickname 'House of Bones'. The enlarged windows on the first floor gave it another nickname, 'House of Yawns'. The house's interior is as fascinating as its exterior. The noble floor is the former residence of the Batlló family. Covering more than 700 square metres, it is the main dwelling in the

  • 132. My Adulthood Memories And Memories Of A Childhood Home Places are more than less often full of memories. Rooms have narratives that can be told through the items and furniture they contain. These narratives are often overlooked and not thought about, especially in places where one does not want to spend a particularly large amount of time. Rooms speak, even though we often don't want to listen, or don't want to know. Basements are often like this, full of broken thing and memories, knee–deep castaways, childhood toys and holiday lights. The basement in my childhood home is this way, completely divided into then and now; simply, entirely, depressing. This room is split into two distinct halves. The stairs are creaky and off–white, stained grey and black from soda spills, muddy shoes, snow slush and dirty dog feet. Clumps of dog hair sit in the corners of each step, wrapped up into dust balls. At the bottom, to the immediate left, is where a playroom used to be. There are drawings and old bits of paper stuck up on the walls, hinting as to what this space used to contain. Now, a large, professional–grade ping–pong table sits in the middle of the room. Once loved, the table is now stacked high with towels and laundry. On the wall parallel to the length of the table is a child's growth chart, drawn in Sharpie on the rigid wall that ruined many a marker tip. Starting in June 2004 and ending in June of 2017, about 18 lines with corresponding dates mark the growth of a child. On the adjacent wall, farthest from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Who Is David Adjaye Sunken House Sunken House Analysis One of the things that most architects strive to achieve in their work is to make it stand out and really add to its location's surroundings. This was definitely accomplished by David Adjaye in his "Sunken House" project. In 2007, Adjaye designed a house for photographer Ed Reeve which is why today it is also called "Ed's Shed." However, the "Sunken House" is also a very deserving name. On the lot there was a space already dug out for a basement foundation, however Adjaye had no intentions of including some traditional basement. Instead, he used the lowered area to make a hidden first floor, and then have the driveway connect to the second floor rather than the first/ground floor. This is just the beginning of some of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of the simple box style he uses, most all of the walls were constructed off site and then assemble or put together on site. This caused the actual construction process of this building to be completed in just weeks with efficiency that should be considered rather innovative. This shows that even the way something comes together can be part of design or architecture. Ultimately the end result or final product can reflect to the process and the journey made to get to it, which is just another outstanding design reflected in Adjaye's project. In conclusion there are many innovative or modernized design styles of Adjaye in this "Sunken House" project, and many of his other projects reflect similar design concepts. This just goes to show that you can really see an artist, a designer, and also an architect as they mature in their design concepts and as they gain experience and go through their career. Also however, it is important to maintain your design concepts and build upon them to improve your work and set apart yourself from others, just like your work will set apart itself form its ... Just after 9 a.m. on August 6, 2014, Hummel saw her mother into the elevator on the twelfth floor of their apartment building. After a brief stop on the ninth floor, the elevator plummeted into the ground floor killing Mingle. Hummel then brought claim for negligent infliction of emotion distress ("NIED") against Elite Elevator Company ("Elite"), which maintained the elevator. To recover for NIED, a party must [1] be closely related to the injury victim, [2] be present at the scene of the injury–producing event at the time it occurs, [3] be aware that it is causing injury to the victim and [4] as a result suffer emotional distress beyond that which would be anticipated in a disinterested witness. Thing v. La Chusa, 48 Cal.3d 645 (1989). This memorandum will address only the first three elements of the four elements set forth in Thing. Hummel will likely be able to establish that she was closely related to the victim, present at the scene, and aware that the incident contemporaneously injured her mother because she was reasonably certain that Mingle was on the elevator at the time of the crash. II. Question Presented Was Hummel [1] closely related to her mother; [2] present at the time her mother was killed in the elevator crash; [3] aware of her mother's location an instant before the event and that her mother was being injured during the crash?
