The Dark patches in Silicon Valley
People look at Silicon Valley with their eyes of admiration and longing. There are true heroes of
technology that change the world with universal services like Google, Facebook, Uber. They create
greater value, wealth, and opportunity unprecedented in human history. Silicon Valley is always the
dream of many. Anyone who has ever had the opportunity to meet Silicon Valley leaders has left in
the minds of generous, intelligent, kind and kind people. They want to create more good things with
zeal. Obviously, Silicon Valley is now at the center of innovation and technological progress, but do
we the truth behind all that technology we used every day. In the book " Microchip for Millions" by

Untwined By Janice Theme
1. The main character of the novel "Untwined" is Giselle, she was the narrator of the story. She had
a twin and they were both tall, her best friend was called Tina (Danticat 10). They made an accident
she survived but her twin sister, Isabelle, died. They were christians but not religious, " on the
margins, between belief and disbelief" (Danticat 10). she was thinking to either give up like her
sister or to survive. Giselle was a survivor. 2. One theme from "Untwined" is death and grief. This
theme emerged when "the car slammed into us" (Danticat 1) Giselle's family made a car accident
and all of them got injured and Isabella died. This event made the whole family sticking to each
other more as the two parents decided to separate before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One complex character is Tina. She is Giselle's best friend. when Giselle lost her sister, she helped
her out with their other friend, Jean Michel, they both helped her to know information about who
smashed their car during the accident. Tina told her that Jean Michel loved her, "he liked you. He
still likes you" (Danticat 297). Tina also became her "untwined sister" not just a friend. The theme
of the story changed from sadness and grief to satisfaction snd happiness. (Danticat 303). 4. "We are
late, we are late, no time to say goodbye, we are late" (Danticat . this repetition shows that Giselle
made the whole family 15 minutes late which caused them to have an accident that resulted in
Isabella's death. The tone of the story changed it to death and grief of the whole family due to
Isabella's death. 5. The most important scene in the story was the car accident. As a result of the car
accident, both parents got injured, Giselle was unable to move or speak, and Isabella lost her life.
The order of the events were harsh to bear the grief when the family knew they lost their daughter.
On the other hand, they started supporting each other and sticking to each other more. There was
also misunderstanding and confusion, everyone thought that Isabelle survived and Giselle died, "I
AM NOT ISABELLE. I AM GISELLE" (Danticat

An Analysis Of Suicide Note By Janice Mirikitani
The term Asian American refers to an extremely diverse group of people, with varying cultures,
histories, views of mental illness, and views of suicide. It has been estimated that almost 50 distinct
Asian American ethnic groups speaking 30 different languages reside in the United States alone,"
(Hapa). Many Asian Americans are very traditional family's "Asian Americans are more likely than
other Americans to value "marriage, parenthood, hard work and career success" (Saw) . The poem

A lot of children that come from an Asian culture background a prefer to die then to have a bad
grade in school. The thinking of suicide comes from "The pressure to succeed and the shame that
results from the failure to do so, which are associated with psychological distress and suicide, have
been documented among youth in Asian countries, such as Sri Lanka, China and Japan" (Saw).
Furth more this example shows us that many Asian American culture hate to seea family member
bring shame to their family and would rather them to not fail in life but to always succeed. In the
poem Suicide Note the main character explains in her Note that she is "not smart enough" (Kirszner
l.3) The main character feels that she is not smart in enough in school. In a summary before the
poem the author explains that "Her suicide note contained an apology to her parents for having
received less than a perfect four–point grade average" (Kirszner 683). This example shows that the
main character had to have a great grade in school if not she would not feel content with herself.
Education is one of the most important goals in a life of an Asian American citizen and if not
accomplished very well could result in Depression or even Suicide. Janice Mirkikitnia poem Suicide

Janice Kindred In Town Gallery Analysis
Chattanooga's "In Town Gallery" was founded in 1974, and it is home to the workings of local
artists. Upon visiting this gallery, I was able to have the unique advantage of conversing with one of
the artists themselves, Janice Kindred. I was able to grasp an understanding of the different medias
and techniques used in the paintings and other artworks. In addition, I was able to develop an
appreciation of the artists' works.
The first piece that struck my eye was Vincent, a painting by Janice Kindred herself. Vincent is a
painting done in acrylic. It is a colorful and vivid arrangement of a nature scene featuring trees
standing upon a cliff that foray one's attention. Upon looking at this painting, the sky fascinated me
the most. It was portrayed in bright blues, pinks, and purples. When talking to Kindred, she
informed me that in her paintings, she likes to do a layering ... Show more content on

what seems to be an African savanna with a rolling grassland of shrubs and trees overlooking water.
This painting was one of the most flamboyant ones I saw. It grabbed my attention with its pop of
many colors. What also stood out to me was the layering technique similar to Kindred's.
Lastly, I saw Chuck Frye's Snowy Day in the Cove. Different from the other paintings, this was
done with oil. Like Frye's other works, Snowy Day in the Cove, focuses on realism. Frye enjoys
capturing the natural harmony found within landscapes. In this painting, one sees I a desolate cabin
in a snowy atmosphere. Snow aligns the surrounded forest and the cabin. Snowflakes glisten in the
air. Looking at this painting, I thought it was a photograph. However, I was surprised to learn it was
actually a painting. The realism of this painting fascinated

Janice Mirikitani Suicide Note Summary
The poem "Suicide Note" by Janice Mirikitani, is about a young Asian–American college girl who
left an apology letter for her parents after jumping to her death from her dorm room window due to
her failing grades, and she did not want to face her disappointed parents. This is a heartbreaking
tragedy that should have been prevented if only her parents were understanding and compassionate.
In the poem, the college girl apologizes to her parents for not being too smart enough for them or
worthy of their respect, and disappointing them. "I apologize for disappointing you" (line 5 and line
6), even though she tries her best to please her parents, she thinks she will never stop disappointing
them. There are times in this young girl's life that she wished she was born a boy, "if only I were a
son, shoulders broad" (line 9), because in her mind, maybe she thinks that her life would be
different, and her parents would less critical towards her, and less disappointed ... Show more

Loneliness can be detrimental to someone's mental health, especially if there is no one to ask for
guidance or care She is all alone. Her parents are supposed to care for her and love unconditionally,
but they only cared about her grades to avoid bringing shame to the family. This tragedy should
have never happened if she had talked to someone with experience in dealing with depression and
suicidal thoughts. Although, the poem does not state the timeline this suicide occurred, it appears
that she may have been brought up in a generation where by talking about her problems is taboo and
unacceptable. Fearing to be a castaway she does not speak up, so she loses hope because she has no
where to turn for help, thus taking the easy way to end her

Janice Mirikitani Suicide Note
The poem, "Suicide Note" by Janice Mirikitani is very similar to the song, "Jumper" by Third Eye
Blind but differentiates in many ways, also. These two pieces of work are very much similar in the
way their themes are expressed through the use of imagery and symbolism to help tell their story
about suicide and how it has affected them. The two pieces also differentiate when it comes to who
is actually narrating the story and the tone of voice being used. There is a lot of relationship between
the themes of the poem, "Suicide Note" and the song, "Jumper". Both of these works seem to
correlate with the overall theme of suicide. The poem, "Suicide Note", reflects on the tragedy of
certain cultures where women are so degraded and devalued that they

"I do not trust people who don 't love themselves and yet tell me, 'I love you. ' There is an African
saying which is: Be careful when a naked person offers you a shirt." This is a quote by Mayra

people. Having kindness for yourself it's the first step that everyone should take. "Suicide Note" by
Janice Mirikitani talks about a girl who committed suicide just because she didn't have kindness for
herself. I choose to compare the reading by Mirikitani with chapter number five "It's Never Too

people should start having kindness for themselves. This is a part of the book that Asian–American

Janice Shaw Crouse Teen Suicide
The main focus of this paper is to compare hamlet to teen suicides and family dynamics. Many acts
in the play represent some things you can see in modern teens or families. Teen suicide is a major
issue in today's society. In the play many things that could lead to or cause suicide. One thing that
can cause suicide is family dynamics. If the family is broken it can lead to a lot of stress being put
on the kids.
We know today that one major cause of suicide is depression, and there is a lot of different factors
that lead to depression. Things like bullying, death, divorce, and stress can all be things that cause
depression. Janice Shaw Crouse wrote an article talking about teen suicides and in her writing she
stated"...more than 90 percent of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most people like to think that a perfect family consist of two parents, and two kid's one of each sex.
But the sad truth is that most family's today are broken. Just like Meredith F. Small wrote"...our
ideas of the perfect family are narrow and just plain inaccurate..." Most families are full of
problems. Family's now a days are full of pain and heart ache. Parent will get divorces and
remarried separating the family and making its difficult on the kids.
Hamlets family is full of lies and secrets. His father is dead and his mother married his uncle. So
along with dealing with his father's death he has to try and learn how to deal with his uncle trying to
act like his father. Hamlets family is a perfect example of a broken family, and those family issues
are huge reasons for his thought of suicide. In a way Hamlets family have a lot of similarity with
real life families. Its very hard now a day to find a family that has two parents. Many are either
divorced or a parent has died and most end up re marring causing stress on

The Anatomy of Care: Janice
The simulation exercise presented a complex situation when Charge Nurse Janice didn't have
enough nurses in her unit and the VP of Support Services called and her about the scheduled
meeting. At the start of the shift, she responded unprofessionally to the situation by giving directions
to the staff while on a personal call and reacting negatively to any patient update provided by the
staff. Janice also created a bad impression to Elise, the new nurse, when she asked about her
assignment. Janice addressed the patients' names with the procedures they had. Knowing that there
was a situational problem, Janice should have communicated properly and emphasized to the staff
about teamwork to facilitate the workflow in the unit. Elise is new and inexperienced, but Janice
could have utilized her help with basic tasks as long as she had been directed and coached properly.
Janice was confronted with problems where she had to make choices on how solve them. The first
one concerned Mrs. Wemberly, s/p colon resection who was requesting for attention. Instead of
sending Nurse Mark to see the patient, she decided to check on her which actually led to a better
outcome after her talk with the patient. This particular instance showed that Janice prioritized and
valued her patient first over the schedule meeting with the VP. If Janice didn't

Film Analysis Of Rear Window By William Hitchcock
Rear Window is odd in how it is filmed. Focusing on the idea of voyeurism and watching others.
You see this is the first scene instead of seeing the main character or even side characters, you see
the building the many apartments and the courtyard and then you meet Jeff. Jeff you can see is a
broken man, he laying down sweating, unsleep on a chair. But you only see Jeff a glance like he is
not important instead the film focus the people in the apartments nearby in the rest of film he will
watch out his window. Through this film you see this evolution of the characters through the lense
of this beautiful shot film made by the sets and background characters. Without the sets this film
would not be what it is. This story is told through it's images, music and background characters as
much if more than it's leads. This is a movie about watching movies and as audience member your
watching Jeff watch his neighbors. Hitchcock is bluntly telling us we are watching a film. Most of
film is at night like the dark theater this is shown in, Hitchcock shows the audience ourselves
through Jeff . You see this focus on the community and environment in that before you even meet
jeff the composer shaving, the couple who sleep outside to avoid the heat, the dancer stretching and
then for the first time you see Jeff cast and his room. You see how he lives his life in the first scene
and his room. True you see, he is a photographer but you also see he is a voyeury, he watches others

In "Suicide Note," Janice Mirikitani uses the voice of a despondent college student who gives up on
life to convey the combined struggle of having parents with excessive expectations and being a
female. As the poem is a suicide note, the speaker has a negative tone. After having found herself
unable to please her parents, she has lost hope, repeating phrases such as "not good enough" and
"not strong enough." Although straightforward, the speaker's language communicate a deep sense of
melancholy as she explains her failure to meet her parents' academic expectations, stating "I
apologize / Tasks do not come easily." In addition, she struggles with her identity, reflecting, "If only
I were a son . . . I would see the light in my mother's / eyes."

Summary Of Suicide Note By Janice Mirikitani
Nowadays, it seems like we hear a lot about suicide and who did what and all about their life story.
You hear many stories about how no one knew it was coming and they showed no signs. It is a hard
pill to swallow when most of the time you realize that they probably showed countless amount of
signs but it is that no one really paid attention to the signs. "Suicide Note" was written by Janice
Mirikitani, it is about an Asian–American girl who committed suicide. It is often said that she
committed suicide for having a less than perfect grade point average but I think throughout the
poem, it seems like something a little more hiding beneath the cover of this college student's death.
The "Suicide Note" is a very blunt title for a poem. It is everything you would think it would be and
more. The poem has a little paragraph before it explaining what the poem is based off on a college

She is trying to tell her parents that she did not mean to disappoint them. She is saying that she is
sorry for not being the best that they wanted her to be. She is telling them she is sorry because she
believes she could have done something to get the better grades or be the person her parents wanted
her to be. The college girl thinks this all could have been avoided if she would of just been born a
boy. It is crazy to think what did her parents tell her? Did her parents show her any love at all? Did
they not see the warning signs that she was gonna commit suicide? They probably did not see it
because the college girl was so caught up trying to be perfect for her parents that she did not think
about herself. She did not think about how all these thoughts about her being a bad person were
sucking her up in to a black hole that she could never escape. She was scared to let her feelings out

student who decides to end her life by jumping out of her dormitory window. Her last words,
thoughts and emotions were written in the note she left behind. This note is recorded in the form of a

girl waits on the ledge of her building in preparation for death, snow has begun to fall, leaving her

Storytelling By Janice Person Analysis
LUBBOCK, TX – Janice Person, online engagement director at Monsanto, shared her advice about
using storytelling to relate to the non–agricultural public on Sept. 23 to Texas Tech agricultural
communication students. "The vast majority of Americans don't think about science or agriculture
on a regular basis," said Person. Storytelling helps to bridge the gap between the agricultural related
people to non–agricultural related people. Person said some people don't understand the practices in
agriculture because they have never been exposed to it first–hand. Storytelling helps the agriculture
industry to be more honest and open with the public on agricultural practices. As agricultural
communications students, it is important to have a well thought out story in mind to share when

The first section of the curve was the overall statement of the story. Next, the story needs to have a
rising action "to make people understand that it's a big problem." Then solving the problem on the
way back down the curve. With the conclusion of giving a solution to the problem. In order to tell a
story successfully Person said the storyteller must hit on three important points in their story. The
storyteller must find a story that is personable, make people go "wow" and connect with people in
the room. Once these three steps are completed, Person said "you usually have the ability to inform
and teach."
Another reason storytelling is an important tool in agriculture is to persistently push non–agriculture
consumers to think beyond what they already know. "Use storytelling to make people think more
critically," said

Janice Mirikitani Suicide Note Summary
Janice Mirikitani "Suicide Note" is the speaker of this short poem with 63 lines in it. The poem is a
dramatic monologue. It tells a small story about how an Asian–American girl who is in college,
committed suicide because she was not able to meet the expectations for herself and her family. She
talked about how each failure effects are greatly, how standing on the ledge reminded her about how
a sparrow is about to take flight, and she reminds me of a few people in school that have gone
through similar instances like the girl but, did not go through with it fully. Suicide Note is a poem
written in 1987. The poem is about a young Asian–American college student who jumped out of her

The poem is an apology to her parents.
In the first two stanzas, she is talking directly to her parents. The speaker is apologizing to her
parents for the work that she placed out and saying she is sorry for not doing better than what she
had just done. "I apologize/ for disappointing you." is her saying she is sorry. She also said three
lines over and over again, which were "not good enough", "not pretty enough", and "not smart
enough". Those three things made her not feel she was good enough and it psyched her bad enough
to not continue with life. At the end of the second stanza, she says "in my father's dream" which
automatically shows that she is doing it for her family. She was given an opportunity to bring more
honor to her family by going to college and graduating it, but sadly she was not able to get that far.
She thinks that she brought dishonor to her family by not being able to keep her perfect four point
grade average. It is not easy at all to keep it there so she must have done a great job to get that far,
but not even that was able to please her parents and making

the Elizabeth Mary Williams, and the Ashley Sara Jones' who dominate much of the population, I
am unique. Now my middle name, Janice, is to blame for my four names. When I was born, my
parents had already decided on Anna Terese Aucoin, only three names at that time not four, when
they realized every grandparent had a namesake except for one, my Maw Maw, Janice Aucoin.
Knowing that would upset her, my parents decided to squeeze her name in between my last name

In An Overcrowded And Unhappy Home By Janice Barry
Barry's overall message in the text is to show people how not everyone's world is perfect and all that
great. People's lives have flaws and not everything may turn out how it was planned. She also
mentions how all people are important, even if they attend a public school. In the story when she
was talking about her life at home she says, "In an overcrowded and unhappy home, it's incredibly
easy for any child to slip away" (Barry 10). By saying this she is referring to herself and saying how
people need to notice how no family lives a pure life where nothing goes wrong and they all have
issues like her; they may not be as bad but nothing is perfect. She is also saying how everyone needs
a place to go to where people will notice and welcome them.

Showing Off by Janice Galloway
The article 'Showing Off' by the Scottish writer Janice Galloway describes how she overcame
obstacles in her life to become a writer and shows that even if you are not blessed with the best
oppurtunities in life and suffer from prejudice, it is still possible to achieve your goals. Through the
clever use of language and technique, Galloway presents her writing in such a way that it has a great
deal of inspirational impact on the reader. In order for a text to be inspiring, it must be written in
such a way that the reader can connect with it emotionally. In 'Showing Off', Galloway addresses
social issues that many in people, in particular many women fell strongly about. Set in the 1960s, as

This gave her the sense of freedom and the knowledge that she does not have to care what others
think of her in order to achieve her goals, which is essential given the main purpose of the text. This
set of anecdotes very clearly highlights to the reader both the prejudices in the society Galloway
grew up in and the respect Galloway deserved having overcome them. Galloway's courage and
determination are clearly inspirational, even though society has thankfully moved on from the
culture she describes. A final feature in the text which is vital for creating an emotional connection
with the audience is the style in which it is written as it conveys Galloways personality, which
allows the reader to understand the meaning of the text and relate to it, making it easier to connect
with. The first element of style that Galloway uses to her advantage is formality; rather than writing
it in a complex and serious manner, the writer presents the text in a light–hearted way making it
more accessible and enjoyable. Aspects of the text which contribute towards are informality are the
use of slang – "LURV", "stunk like a month–old kipper"; use of short sentences – "This did not
trouble me. I was a biddable child. Most are."; and parenthesis – "(there were no men in our house)".

have a strong biblical conviction tied to their marriage vows that prevent them from reporting abuse.
Today, you see more couples writing their own vows to fit their individual values and life style.
Often omitting the traditional vows and eliminating the word "OBEY", the word OBEY is no longer
received with warm welcomes in our culture today. Cultural differences are also connected to how
and when domestic abuse is reported.
Some cultures view men as being in charge and women are not allowed to make any family
decisions. A survey taken by CBN Christian Broadcast Network, ask the question to church leaders,
"Does your church have a specific plan or procedure in place for reports of domestic abuse? 52%
said yes, 45% replied no. The other 2% did not know. A large number of pastors interviewed did not
know if abuse had even happened in their churches. But a large majority had written church by–laws
in place to govern how the church operates. Church bylaws govern the structure, indicates the

Janice Harper Health Care
As I was reading about the village and the people in the village in Madagascar, I really admired
Janice Harper the medical anthropologist. The living conditions and the health of the people really
made me think about how fortunate we are in the United States to have health care. The mortality
rate was disturbing with 100 deaths per 1000 people compared to that of the US being 8 deaths per
1000 population (Singer & Baer, 2012, p.45). It would be wonderful to be able to go to different
countries to help people improve their health care and provide proper medical care, but not sure how
one deals with the conditions of the different countries. It definitely takes a special person to be able
to deal with the situations Harper encountered. But, Harper found that even though the children
where sick with bloated bellies, ear infections, scabies and boils, they were still active and happily
playing (Singer & Baer, 2012, p.45). This was the children's way of life and how they ... Show more

As nurses, we have to be transcultural and put our own beliefs and practices aside, and focus on the
patient's beliefs and practices in order to provide proper nursing interventions to help patients
improve their health (DeSantis, 1994, p.708). The nurse must look at the patient as a way to learn
about different cultures. The patient is the nurse's source of information about the culture. Without
understanding the effects of culture, many situations could be dangerous (DeSantis, 1994, p.714).
Caregivers taking care of different populations must be aware of the many observances, and must

The Suicide Note By Janice Mirikitani
TOPIC
There are times when we feel like we must be perfect in other to please others. No matter if we did
the best we could, if it isn't perfect, we felt like a failure. We want the approval that comes with
perfectness but perfectionism is not the same thing as striving to be our best. Perfectionism is not
about healthy achievement and growth; it 's a shield. Perfectionism is refusal to accept any standard
short of perfection. "Suicide Note," by Janice Mirikitani, is about an Asian American college student
who commits suicide by jumping from her dormitory window. This poem is read as the suicide note
that was left behind by this young woman to apologize to her parent s for having received less than a
perfect four point grade average and not being perfect in life. Her last thoughts and feelings were
left on this note, describing why she did what she did. The pressure to succeed that this student felt
from herself and her parents was far too much to overcome. Even though the girl worked really hard
and did her very best, it wasn't good enough in her mind and maybe in her parents' minds to be
worthy of her parents' love or life itself and so her only option was death to atone for her sin of
imperfection. Sometimes pressure to succeed that a student feels from herself and her parents is far
too much to overcome.
This poem begins by describing some of the harsh feelings associated with failure. She starts by
writing, "How many notes

Someone Had To by Janice Galloway Essay
Someone Had To by Janice Galloway Janice Galloway's short story 'Someone Had To' is a truly
disturbing insight into the mind of a man engaged in violently abusing his stepdaughter. Through her
effective use of narrative stance, structure, imagery and characterisation, we are allowed to see this
pessimistic theme in an all too convincing way. The story is told from the point of view of Frank,
Kimberly's stepfather. His portrayal . Through the use of first person narrative, we are effectively
allowed to see Frank's opinions on Kimberly without much intervention from any other characters.
We do see the occasional input from Kimberly's mother, Linda, but her intervention in slight. To

We see Frank trying to portray himself as reasonable: 'I'm not an unreasonable man. I argued'
However, by his decision to 'argue' the point, we see, in fact, that it is not a 'reasonable' thing to do.
A reasonable person does not argue – they discuss or debate on an issue. We see Frank's reaction to
what is perceived as Kimberley's bad behaviour. Our first sign of his disciplining is when he tells the
reader: 'I only hit her when she's naughty'. That seems an incongruous statement, as you would not
normally call a teenager 'naughty'. He seems to be taking the punishment too far when he tells the
reader: 'She'll come round QUICKLY ENOUGH WHEN SHE'S HUNGRY'
==================================================== This seems a draconian
thing to do. To begin with, we can still somewhat sympathise, although we recognise that he may be
pushed beyond his limits. His next punishment begins to show how unreasonable he actually is.
When he puts Kimberley in the corner, all she does is 'just stood there'. Frank's expression is one of
despair but the reader is beginning to wonder what else he expected her to do. She is simply doing
what he told her to do and he is finding fault with that. We are beginning to see that Frank is not
necessarily the man we originally thought he was. His next punishment is where we really start to
see him lose control. He

Janice Radway's The Talented Mr. Ripley
In Janice Radway's "The Talented Mr.Ripley" there is is a very interesting text and has many
different situations that occur throughout the text to make you think the protagonist and antagonist is
talented and filled with gifts that can be used negatively. Tom has a gift for forgery, impersonation,
and imitation, and he uses these skills to his advantage at every available opportunity. Tom Despite
his difficult upbringing and bereft surroundings, overtime he has become obsessed with the lifestyle
of the wealthy; he comes in contact with Herbert Greenleaf who is would like to find his son and

When Dickie begins to tire of him, his obsession turns to anger over potentially being rejected and
losing his lifestyle, so he turns to murder. The character's lack of humanity and care for those others

but cannot seem to connect with or have sympathy towards anyone else. He is "talented" in all
manners of deception, and able to think on his feet. While reading most often people will look at
Tom's behavior and see only the negativity. Radway uses Tom to show us a more sensitive side of
the a male figure and how they battle with experiences that has effective them drastically. In Tom's
case he is not displayed as a typical male figure would because he expresses his feelings and is not
identified as those around him. I will argue that Tom's background and his history has shaped his

Adolescents Identity In The Lost Boys By Janice Crowds
Adolescents, is a crucial time period for identity development, in young adults. Several physical and
mental changes take place during this time period. These changes can be a struggle for some
adolescents to handle by themselves. Adolescents begin to look more towards their peer
relationships to gain a better understanding of themselves. Adolescents start to spend more of their
free time with their friends, compared to the time they spend with their parents. Adolescents will
look to gain friends and become integrated into a clique, and eventually be put into a particular
crowd. The adolescents' clique and crowd that they are associated with will help to develop the
adolescents' identity. The movie "The Lost Boys", written by Janice ... Show more content on

A crowd can be described as a large group of adolescents, who may or may not be friends, who can
be easily identified by their interests, attitudes, abilities, or personal characteristics that they have in
common (Brown & Lohr, 1987). Crowds help the adolescent to identify similarities and differences
between themselves and other peers. This in turn creates a hierarchy based on characteristics of the
different crowds. The crowd itself helps shape the adolescents' identity, because the adolescent will
conform to the crowd norms. A crowd norm is a common rule of thought, action, or characteristic on
any given topic associated with the crowd itself. When a crowd norm is broken, there are non–
severe consequences that occur from other members of the same crowd. For example Goths
typically wear black or dark clothing. If a Goth walks into class wearing a bright pink shirt and a
white skirt, other members of the crowd will ridicule her for the outfit. The Goth broke the crowd
norm by wearing the pink shirt and white skirt, and the consequences were that other members of
the group ridiculed her. These consequences keep the adolescent in check with the crowd norms.
Therefore, the consequences for breaking crowd norms helps shape the adolescents' identity by
shaping how the adolescent views certain issues as well as other characteristics of

Overcoming Obstacles In Who We Are By Janice Blackmore
There are always going to be obstacles in between someone and what they want, but if that person
deals with these challenges depends on how much they want it. The characters in the following
stories and videos did not let other people get in the way of what they want and instead proceeded
their dreams. Anyone can overcome a roadblock in the form of what they want. "Who We Are..." by
Janice Blackmore is a youtube video about kids who help their parents with their job to provide for
their family and overcome obstacles that they face at school or outside of school. Kids at their
school thought they didn't know how to speak English and thought they were rude. Workers at a
store thought they were going to steal something, so they kept a close eye on them. "The man at the
store assumed we were going to steal," said one of the kids. The quote explains how other people
treat them like the other kids. "I want to get a good job... because I see how much my parents are
suffering from their job..." said another kid from the video. ... Show more content on

Janice Mirikitani Suicide Note Summary
In the poem "Suicide Note" by Janice Mirikitani, the speaker is a female college student who is an
Asian–American. It is apparent that the student feels a great deal of pressure being placed upon her
by her parents to excel scholastically, as well as pressure from her Asian–American culture to
represent them well. While the way the immense amount of pressure placed upon this college
student affects her is understandable, the way the young female chose to handle the pressures might
not have been the correct choice. Some points made in this poem are that the parents of this student
as well as her culture have made her feel as if no matter what she did that she was always a
disappointment to everyone, the student feels like if she were a male, ... Show more content on

The student states that "Tasks do not come easily" and continues by saying "So I have worked hard.
Not good enough" (367). From what can be gathered from this poem, the student is a perfectionist,
so this makes it understandable that nothing the student does, no matter how magnificent her work
may be, will not be good enough in this student's eyes. As a result of the student's extremely strict
standards she has placed upon herself, it is understandable, then, why her not achieving a perfect
grade point average could cause a great disappointment to the student. As the student prepares
herself to take the leap to her death, she makes a comparison between herself and a bird ready to fly.
The student writes "It is snowing steadily surely not good weather for flying" and proceeds to
further compare herself to a bird by saying "This sparrow sillied and dizzied by the wind on the
edge" (367). The college student continues to juxtapose herself with this bird by saying "The air will
not hold me, the snow burdens my crippled wings" (367) stating in a comparative way that when she
jumps, the air will not hold her. Just as a crippled bird cannot glide through the air but instead falls
to the ground, so will the student once she jumps. While still using the bird comparison, the student
hopes that when she is found, the people who find her will "Bury my bird bones beneath a sturdy
pine" and "Scatter my feathers like unspoken song over this...earth" (368). By making this analogy,
the student proves that even in this time of great distress she is still a capable and intelligent

sometimes to understand and grasp complicated situations like this. Most of the time children only
hold one perspective of things, their own. Fein discusses the impact her mother's illness had on her

Janice Williams's Life : Growing Up Without A Father
"He was not with his family or even checking in nor providing for us," Janice Williams said, "He

Growing up without a father isn't the ideal lifestyle for a young girl. It can change the way you grow
as a person physically but also mentally. But according to Oprah's Life class, "Nearly 24 million
children grow up absent their biological father." The website Fatherless says, "One in three children
lives apart from their biological father."
She's the middle child of her other 3 siblings. She's a young, strong, and forgiving woman. Criminal
Justice major at Nicholls State University, Janice Williams has a relatable story.
She went most of her childhood without her father, which did affect her mentally. He had the vision
of pursuing a music career, but when that fell short he had forgot about his family and
responsibilities. "What was your father like then compared to now?" I asked.
She responded, "I didn't really know him to well when I was really young because I can't remember
him being there."
Janice didn't remember what her father was like nor did she fully understand at the time what was
going on. She and her sisters only knew what their mother had told them. Their mother had told
them that their father was "very inconsistent, told lies, and beat around the bush."

Analysis Of Janice Mirikitani 's ' Suicide Note
It's easy to feel worthless. Almost every person feels this deep emotion at some time in life, but
people handle it different. Everywhere people are always judging. Judgement from parents, from
family, and even from friends is inescapable. People can tear themselves down in many ways, such
as through school, not feeling they look good enough, and even just not feeling like they're ever
good enough to be living on Earth. In Janice Mirikitani's poem "Suicide Note," it talks about an
Asian–American student currently in college. She tries her hardest, she wants to succeed and make
her parents proud. Her parents have high standards for her, as they want her to receive a 4.0 grade
point average. Although she gives her best effort, her grade point average is still less than a 4.0, and
for that reason her parents are not proud of her, she's not their perfect, ideal daughter. So she enters
that point where she no longer feels proud of her accomplishments, she feels worthless, and
unintelligent. She decides to commit suicide by jumping out of a window in her college dorm. In her
suicide note she apologizes to her parents for not being good enough. "Suicide Note" is a free form
poem, it has no set stanzaic pattern, the sentences break in unexpected places, and the structure
varies throughout the poem. It uses imagery to connect with the reader, and the stanzas are set up in
way that make the lines to appear as they are falling. Through the use of enjambment, and end–

Not A Choice By Janice G. Raymond
Often, when people think of sex work and sex workers their minds immediately go to human
trafficking. Yet, I believe it is essential that one marks the difference between the two, because as
social workers we will have clients who come to us who have chosen to be sex workers. As social
workers we recognize that every individual has the right to self–determination and we must know
how to best serve them. In Janice G. Raymond's book Not a Choice, Not a Job, she explores the
world of sex work and though her views conflict with social work values she presents great
information into the world of sex work. I will be presenting the ideas from her book and also be
offering other views that are important when working with clients. The first chapter of this book
details what Raymond believes to be the most dangerous myths surrounding sex work, or
prostitution as she refers to it. The first point she makes is that "Prostitution is Inevitable." She
claims that this is "the most senseless argument in defense of maintaining the system of prostitution"
(Raymond, 2013, p. 2). Raymond backs her claim by explaining that this idea stems from the
patriarchy from a time when women were objects. Raymond then continues on to berate the
mindsets that say that sex work cannot or should not be banned because the safety of the worker has
to be taken into consideration. She compares the "harm reduction" mentality to the same mentality
that tobacco industry claimed to be using filtered cigarettes.

Janice Delarosa Short Story
Young Janice Delarosa was a girl endeared and loved by her mother. As the first and only child after
her mother's eight miscarriages it was clear to see that she was a miracle baby, one that her mother
always claimed, "would bring her good fortune". But, for some reason, the goodness of her birth
never came to fame as Janice was secretly a child of misfortune.
No one could pinpoint why there were so many tragedies within the Delarosa family. It was as if
death oozed from their bodily essence. It started with the death of Mr Delarosa at Janice's birth. For
some reason, he went into cardiac arrest as soon as she came out of her mother's womb. When
Janice asked what happened to her father, her mother said, "his heart couldn't bear the joy of seeing
his first child". At the time it seemed like a logical explanation, but as the years went by anyone that
encountered the family would drop like flies. The incident where Uncle Martel got hit by a bus or
Aunt Nicey falling from a flight of stairs did not trigger any suspicions. It was just their time to go.
But what put the icing on the cake was the loss of Janice's doting mother Karen Delarosa. Rattled
with grief and guilt, Janice became overwhelmed by these series of tragedies that plagued her from
the beginning of her time. For anyone, this would bring unbearable pain that would dissipate over
time, but for a girl of such a young age, it was a devastating blow to the world she knew.
The night of her mother's funeral Janice was

Torres used unity and variety with a selection of lines, shapes, and colors. When you first view the

particular order. Staring at the front center, the eyes will follow the path of lines that lead your eyes
over the entire painting. When you take a closer look at the piece, you will begin to notice a
repetition of certain colors and shapes. The painting is also asymmetrically balanced. In my opinion,
the most important Principle of Design used for this piece is contrast. The figure of the woman in
the front is significantly contrasted from the rest of the painting, and she is made to be the focal
point. This piece is representational artwork. It depicts the appearance of a woman and includes
subjects from the everyday world.

Commercial Analysis Essay On Janice Barkley
As a campaign manager for my presidential candidate, Janice Barkley, I must use various strategies
when creating my advertisements. The strategies that I will use for the audience on my side, include:
card stacking, name calling, testimonials, and assertion. I will use these strategies in a series of

information that is positive to an idea or proposal and omitting information contrary to it. The

"I am Janice Barkley and I approve this message." This commercial contains derogatory language
that puts Stanley in a negative light and appeases the audience's view of Stanley. My third

  • 1. Janice Sapigao The Dark patches in Silicon Valley People look at Silicon Valley with their eyes of admiration and longing. There are true heroes of technology that change the world with universal services like Google, Facebook, Uber. They create greater value, wealth, and opportunity unprecedented in human history. Silicon Valley is always the dream of many. Anyone who has ever had the opportunity to meet Silicon Valley leaders has left in the minds of generous, intelligent, kind and kind people. They want to create more good things with zeal. Obviously, Silicon Valley is now at the center of innovation and technological progress, but do we the truth behind all that technology we used every day. Sapigao Janice using her point of view to bring the image of her mother as an example of how her mother sacrificed to support the family by giving up so much time at work. Furthermore, Sapigao notices the inequity of her mother faces. She acknowledges, " Ma is always on the frontline of the silicon valley's shadow one of thousands of women whose nimble fingers and silenced grumbling spin microchips for millions powering laptops and cellphones that she herself does not find intuitive enough to use."(16–24) Not only overwork but also the iniquity of workers are facing in silicon valley. The exploitation of Janice mother's which affects the entire family through her point of view. She brings the unknown stories into the light. People who work twelve hours a day. People who give everything they have to build the silicon valley today and get little credit for it. In addition, Sapigao reminded me of the picture of my parents my relative who work overtime. The only time to enjoy is a little time in the end of the day. In the poem "The source", Sapigao bring out the secret of what they call "the cleanroom" from an assembly line job. She ... • 3. Untwined By Janice Theme 1. The main character of the novel "Untwined" is Giselle, she was the narrator of the story. She had a twin and they were both tall, her best friend was called Tina (Danticat 10). They made an accident she survived but her twin sister, Isabelle, died. They were christians but not religious, " on the margins, between belief and disbelief" (Danticat 10). she was thinking to either give up like her sister or to survive. Giselle was a survivor. 2. One theme from "Untwined" is death and grief. This theme emerged when "the car slammed into us" (Danticat 1) Giselle's family made a car accident and all of them got injured and Isabella died. This event made the whole family sticking to each other more as the two parents decided to separate before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One complex character is Tina. She is Giselle's best friend. when Giselle lost her sister, she helped her out with their other friend, Jean Michel, they both helped her to know information about who smashed their car during the accident. Tina told her that Jean Michel loved her, "he liked you. He still likes you" (Danticat 297). Tina also became her "untwined sister" not just a friend. The theme of the story changed from sadness and grief to satisfaction snd happiness. (Danticat 303). 4. "We are late, we are late, no time to say goodbye, we are late" (Danticat . this repetition shows that Giselle made the whole family 15 minutes late which caused them to have an accident that resulted in Isabella's death. The tone of the story changed it to death and grief of the whole family due to Isabella's death. 5. The most important scene in the story was the car accident. As a result of the car accident, both parents got injured, Giselle was unable to move or speak, and Isabella lost her life. The order of the events were harsh to bear the grief when the family knew they lost their daughter. On the other hand, they started supporting each other and sticking to each other more. There was also misunderstanding and confusion, everyone thought that Isabelle survived and Giselle died, "I AM NOT ISABELLE. I AM GISELLE" (Danticat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. An Analysis Of Suicide Note By Janice Mirikitani The term Asian American refers to an extremely diverse group of people, with varying cultures, histories, views of mental illness, and views of suicide. Many Asian Americans are very traditional family's "Asian Americans are more likely than other Americans to value "marriage, parenthood, hard work and career success" (Saw) . A lot of children that come from an Asian culture background a prefer to die then to have a bad grade in school. The thinking of suicide comes from "The pressure to succeed and the shame that results from the failure to do so, which are associated with psychological distress and suicide, have been documented among youth in Asian countries, such as Sri Lanka, China and Japan" (Saw). Furth more this example shows us that many Asian American culture hate to seea family member bring shame to their family and would rather them to not fail in life but to always succeed. In the poem Suicide Note the main character explains in her Note that she is "not smart enough" (Kirszner l.3) The main character feels that she is not smart in enough in school. In a summary before the poem the author explains that "Her suicide note contained an apology to her parents for having received less than a perfect four–point grade average" (Kirszner 683). This example shows that the main character had to have a great grade in school if not she would not feel content with herself. Education is one of the most important goals in a life of an Asian American citizen and if not accomplished very well could result in Depression or even Suicide. • 9. Janice Kindred In Town Gallery Analysis Chattanooga's "In Town Gallery" was founded in 1974, and it is home to the workings of local artists. Upon visiting this gallery, I was able to have the unique advantage of conversing with one of the artists themselves, Janice Kindred. I was able to grasp an understanding of the different medias and techniques used in the paintings and other artworks. In addition, I was able to develop an appreciation of the artists' works. The first piece that struck my eye was Vincent, a painting by Janice Kindred herself. Vincent is a painting done in acrylic. It is a colorful and vivid arrangement of a nature scene featuring trees standing upon a cliff that foray one's attention. Upon looking at this painting, the sky fascinated me the most. It was portrayed in bright blues, pinks, and purples. When talking to Kindred, she informed me that in her paintings, she likes to do a layering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Washburn founded the MMIA (Mixed Media Inspired Artists) and has been accredited to teaching numerous mixed media classes through the Southeast. In Radiant Earth, one sees a vivid portrayal of what seems to be an African savanna with a rolling grassland of shrubs and trees overlooking water. This painting was one of the most flamboyant ones I saw. It grabbed my attention with its pop of many colors. What also stood out to me was the layering technique similar to Kindred's. Lastly, I saw Chuck Frye's Snowy Day in the Cove. Different from the other paintings, this was done with oil. Like Frye's other works, Snowy Day in the Cove, focuses on realism. Frye enjoys capturing the natural harmony found within landscapes. In this painting, one sees I a desolate cabin in a snowy atmosphere. Snow aligns the surrounded forest and the cabin. Snowflakes glisten in the air. Looking at this painting, I thought it was a photograph. However, I was surprised to learn it was actually a painting. The realism of this painting fascinated ... • 11. Janice Mirikitani Suicide Note Summary The poem "Suicide Note" by Janice Mirikitani, is about a young Asian–American college girl who left an apology letter for her parents after jumping to her death from her dorm room window due to her failing grades, and she did not want to face her disappointed parents. This is a heartbreaking tragedy that should have been prevented if only her parents were understanding and compassionate. In the poem, the college girl apologizes to her parents for not being too smart enough for them or worthy of their respect, and disappointing them. "I apologize for disappointing you" (line 5 and line 6), even though she tries her best to please her parents, she thinks she will never stop disappointing them. There are times in this young girl's life that she wished she was born a boy, "if only I were a son, shoulders broad" (line 9), because in her mind, maybe she thinks that her life would be different, and her parents would less critical towards her, and less disappointed ... Her parents are supposed to care for her and love unconditionally, but they only cared about her grades to avoid bringing shame to the family. This tragedy should have never happened if she had talked to someone with experience in dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts. Although, the poem does not state the timeline this suicide occurred, it appears that she may have been brought up in a generation where by talking about her problems is taboo and unacceptable. • 13. Janice Mirikitani Suicide Note The poem, "Suicide Note" by Janice Mirikitani is very similar to the song, "Jumper" by Third Eye Blind but differentiates in many ways, also. These two pieces of work are very much similar in the way their themes are expressed through the use of imagery and symbolism to help tell their story about suicide and how it has affected them. The two pieces also differentiate when it comes to who is actually narrating the story and the tone of voice being used. There is a lot of relationship between the themes of the poem, "Suicide Note" and the song, "Jumper". Both of these works seem to correlate with the overall theme of suicide. • 15. When Things Fall Apart By Janice Mirikitani "I do not trust people who don 't love themselves and yet tell me, 'I love you. ' There is an African saying which is: Be careful when a naked person offers you a shirt." This is a quote by Mayra Angelou that it clearly explains that, having kindness for yourself is the most important thing for people. Having kindness for yourself it's the first step that everyone should take. "Suicide Note" by Janice Mirikitani talks about a girl who committed suicide just because she didn't have kindness for herself. I choose to compare the reading by Mirikitani with chapter number five "It's Never Too Late" of the book "When Things Fall Apart" by Pema Chodron because this chapter talks about how people should start having kindness for themselves. This is a part of the book that Asian–American girl who committed suicide, which Mirikitani talks should have read it before taking the decision to end her life. "Suicide Note" by Janice Mirikitani talks about an Asian–American college student who committed suicide. This is her suicide note, that contains an apology to her parents for not being a perfect student with a four–point grade average. She also apologizes to her parents for disappointing them, even though she has worked very hard. But this wasn 't the only reason why she committed suicide. Many acts in the play represent some things you can see in modern teens or families. Teen suicide is a major issue in today's society. In the play many things that could lead to or cause suicide. One thing that can cause suicide is family dynamics. If the family is broken it can lead to a lot of stress being put on the kids. We know today that one major cause of suicide is depression, and there is a lot of different factors that lead to depression. Things like bullying, death, divorce, and stress can all be things that cause depression. So along with dealing with his father's death he has to try and learn how to deal with his uncle trying to act like his father. Hamlets family is a perfect example of a broken family, and those family issues are huge reasons for his thought of suicide. In a way Hamlets family have a lot of similarity with real life families. The Anatomy Of Care : Janice Essay THE ANATOMY OF CARE: JANICE Salve Aguilar West Coast University Pathophysiology Ms. Joni Gaynor October 9, 2015 The Anatomy of Care: Janice The simulation exercise presented a complex situation when Charge Nurse Janice didn't have enough nurses in her unit and the VP of Support Services called and her about the scheduled meeting. At the start of the shift, she responded unprofessionally to the situation by giving directions to the staff while on a personal call and reacting negatively to any patient update provided by the staff. Janice also created a bad impression to Elise, the new nurse, when she asked about her assignment. Janice addressed the patients' names with the procedures they had. Knowing that there was a situational problem, Janice should have communicated properly and emphasized to the staff about teamwork to facilitate the workflow in the unit. Elise is new and inexperienced, but Janice could have utilized her help with basic tasks as long as she had been directed and coached properly. Janice was confronted with problems where she had to make choices on how solve them. The first one concerned Mrs. Wemberly, s/p colon resection who was requesting for attention. Instead of sending Nurse Mark to see the patient, she decided to check on her which actually led to a better outcome after her talk with the patient. Chadd would not listen to Officer requests for him to exit the bathroom. I went outside and looked through a window into the bathroom. I could see Chadd standing and talking on the phone to someone. • 23. Film Analysis Of Rear Window By William Hitchcock Rear Window is odd in how it is filmed. Focusing on the idea of voyeurism and watching others. You see this is the first scene instead of seeing the main character or even side characters, you see the building the many apartments and the courtyard and then you meet Jeff. Jeff you can see is a broken man, he laying down sweating, unsleep on a chair. But you only see Jeff a glance like he is not important instead the film focus the people in the apartments nearby in the rest of film he will watch out his window. After having found herself unable to please her parents, she has lost hope, repeating phrases such as "not good enough" and "not strong enough." Although straightforward, the speaker's language communicate a deep sense of melancholy as she explains her failure to meet her parents' academic expectations, stating "I apologize / Tasks do not come easily." You hear many stories about how no one knew it was coming and they showed no signs. It is a hard pill to swallow when most of the time you realize that they probably showed countless amount of signs but it is that no one really paid attention to the signs. "Suicide Note" was written by Janice Mirikitani, it is about an Asian–American girl who committed suicide. It is often said that she committed suicide for having a less than perfect grade point average but I think throughout the poem, it seems like something a little more hiding beneath the cover of this college student's death. The college girl thinks this all could have been avoided if she would of just been born a boy. It is crazy to think what did her parents tell her? Did her parents show her any love at all? Did they not see the warning signs that she was gonna commit suicide? They probably did not see it because the college girl was so caught up trying to be perfect for her parents that she did not think about herself. She did not think about how all these thoughts about her being a bad person were sucking her up in to a black hole that she could never escape. Those three things made her not feel she was good enough and it psyched her bad enough to not continue with life. At the end of the second stanza, she says "in my father's dream" which automatically shows that she is doing it for her family. She was given an opportunity to bring more honor to her family by going to college and graduating it, but sadly she was not able to get that far. Through the clever use of language and technique, Galloway presents her writing in such a way that it has a great deal of inspirational impact on the reader. In order for a text to be inspiring, it must be written in such a way that the reader can connect with it emotionally. • 45. The Suicide Note By Janice Mirikitani TOPIC There are times when we feel like we must be perfect in other to please others. No matter if we did the best we could, if it isn't perfect, we felt like a failure. We want the approval that comes with perfectness but perfectionism is not the same thing as striving to be our best. Perfectionism is not about healthy achievement and growth; it 's a shield. Perfectionism is refusal to accept any standard short of perfection. "Suicide Note," by Janice Mirikitani, is about an Asian American college student who commits suicide by jumping from her dormitory window. This poem is read as the suicide note that was left behind by this young woman to apologize to her parent s for having received less than a perfect four point grade average and not being perfect in life. Her last thoughts and feelings were left on this note, describing why she did what she did. The pressure to succeed that this student felt from herself and her parents was far too much to overcome. Even though the girl worked really hard and did her very best, it wasn't good enough in her mind and maybe in her parents' minds to be worthy of her parents' love or life itself and so her only option was death to atone for her sin of imperfection. Sometimes pressure to succeed that a student feels from herself and her parents is far too much to overcome. This poem begins by describing some of the harsh feelings associated with failure. We see Frank trying to portray himself as reasonable: 'I'm not an unreasonable man. I argued' However, by his decision to 'argue' the point, we see, in fact, that it is not a 'reasonable' thing to do. A reasonable person does not argue – they discuss or debate on an issue. We see Frank's reaction to what is perceived as Kimberley's bad behaviour. Our first sign of his disciplining is when he tells the reader: 'I only hit her when she's naughty'. That seems an incongruous statement, as you would not normally call a teenager 'naughty'. He seems to be taking the punishment too far when he tells the reader: 'She'll come round QUICKLY ENOUGH WHEN SHE'S HUNGRY' ==================================================== This seems a draconian thing to do. To begin with, we can still somewhat sympathise, although we recognise that he may be pushed beyond his limits. His next punishment begins to show how unreasonable he actually is. When he puts Kimberley in the corner, all she does is 'just stood there'. Frank's expression is one of despair but the reader is beginning to wonder what else he expected her to do. A crowd can be described as a large group of adolescents, who may or may not be friends, who can be easily identified by their interests, attitudes, abilities, or personal characteristics that they have in common (Brown & Lohr, 1987). Crowds help the adolescent to identify similarities and differences between themselves and other peers. This in turn creates a hierarchy based on characteristics of the different crowds. The crowd itself helps shape the adolescents' identity, because the adolescent will conform to the crowd norms. A crowd norm is a common rule of thought, action, or characteristic on any given topic associated with the crowd itself. When a crowd norm is broken, there are non– severe consequences that occur from other members of the same crowd. For example Goths typically wear black or dark clothing. If a Goth walks into class wearing a bright pink shirt and a white skirt, other members of the crowd will ridicule her for the outfit. • 59. Janice Mirikitani Suicide Note Summary In the poem "Suicide Note" by Janice Mirikitani, the speaker is a female college student who is an Asian–American. It is apparent that the student feels a great deal of pressure being placed upon her by her parents to excel scholastically, as well as pressure from her Asian–American culture to represent them well. While the way the immense amount of pressure placed upon this college student affects her is understandable, the way the young female chose to handle the pressures might not have been the correct choice. Some points made in this poem are that the parents of this student as well as her culture have made her feel as if no matter what she did that she was always a disappointment to everyone, the student feels like if she were a male, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The student states that "Tasks do not come easily" and continues by saying "So I have worked hard. Not good enough" (367). From what can be gathered from this poem, the student is a perfectionist, so this makes it understandable that nothing the student does, no matter how magnificent her work may be, will not be good enough in this student's eyes. As a result of the student's extremely strict standards she has placed upon herself, it is understandable, then, why her not achieving a perfect grade point average could cause a great disappointment to the student. As the student prepares herself to take the leap to her death, she makes a comparison between herself and a bird ready to fly. The student writes "It is snowing steadily surely not good weather for flying" and proceeds to further compare herself to a bird by saying "This sparrow sillied and dizzied by the wind on the edge" (367). The college student continues to juxtapose herself with this bird by saying "The air will not hold me, the snow burdens my crippled wings" (367) stating in a comparative way that when she jumps, the air will not hold her. Just as a crippled bird cannot glide through the air but instead falls to the ground, so will the student once she jumps. While still using the bird comparison, the student hopes that when she is found, the people who find her will "Bury my bird bones beneath a sturdy pine" and "Scatter my feathers like unspoken song over this...earth" (368). The website Fatherless says, "One in three children lives apart from their biological father." She's the middle child of her other 3 siblings. She's a young, strong, and forgiving woman. Criminal Justice major at Nicholls State University, Janice Williams has a relatable story. She went most of her childhood without her father, which did affect her mentally. He had the vision of pursuing a music career, but when that fell short he had forgot about his family and responsibilities. "What was your father like then compared to now?" I asked. She responded, "I didn't really know him to well when I was really young because I can't remember him being there." Janice didn't remember what her father was like nor did she fully understand at the time what was going on. She and her sisters only knew what their mother had told them. Their mother had told them that their father was "very inconsistent, told lies, and beat around the bush." "I never looked for a father figure; I was always around my mother and sisters," she said. With his absence and no close father figure to rely on, her sister had to step up and take care of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Analysis Of Janice Mirikitani 's ' Suicide Note It's easy to feel worthless. Almost every person feels this deep emotion at some time in life, but people handle it different. Everywhere people are always judging. Judgement from parents, from family, and even from friends is inescapable. People can tear themselves down in many ways, such as through school, not feeling they look good enough, and even just not feeling like they're ever good enough to be living on Earth. In Janice Mirikitani's poem "Suicide Note," it talks about an Asian–American student currently in college. She tries her hardest, she wants to succeed and make her parents proud. Her parents have high standards for her, as they want her to receive a 4.0 grade point average. Although she gives her best effort, her grade point average is still less than a 4.0, and for that reason her parents are not proud of her, she's not their perfect, ideal daughter. So she enters that point where she no longer feels proud of her accomplishments, she feels worthless, and unintelligent. She decides to commit suicide by jumping out of a window in her college dorm. In her suicide note she apologizes to her parents for not being good enough. "Suicide Note" is a free form poem, it has no set stanzaic pattern, the sentences break in unexpected places, and the structure varies throughout the poem. It uses imagery to connect with the reader, and the stanzas are set up in way that make the lines to appear as they are falling. Through the use of enjambment, and end– stopped line the ... • 69. Not A Choice By Janice G. Raymond Often, when people think of sex work and sex workers their minds immediately go to human trafficking. Yet, I believe it is essential that one marks the difference between the two, because as social workers we will have clients who come to us who have chosen to be sex workers. As social workers we recognize that every individual has the right to self–determination and we must know how to best serve them. In Janice G. Raymond's book Not a Choice, Not a Job, she explores the world of sex work and though her views conflict with social work values she presents great information into the world of sex work. I will be presenting the ideas from her book and also be offering other views that are important when working with clients. The first chapter of this book details what Raymond believes to be the most dangerous myths surrounding sex work, or prostitution as she refers to it. The first point she makes is that "Prostitution is Inevitable." She claims that this is "the most senseless argument in defense of maintaining the system of prostitution" (Raymond, 2013, p. 2). Raymond backs her claim by explaining that this idea stems from the patriarchy from a time when women were objects. Raymond then continues on to berate the mindsets that say that sex work cannot or should not be banned because the safety of the worker has to be taken into consideration. She compares the "harm reduction" mentality to the same mentality that tobacco industry claimed to be using filtered cigarettes. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Janice Dickinson Research Paper Once upon a time, let's call it the '90s, a handful of women ruled the world. They were called supermodels and you couldn't swivel your head without colliding into an image of one or more of these bodacious babes. The supermodel industrial complex was some kind of powerful–billboards, magazine covers, cosmetics and fragrance campaigns–it seemed like this tight–knit clique and their logo–like faces dominated every inch of American and International advertising real estate. They made millions. While it's undisputed that these girls were successful, there's heated debate surrounding what constitutes a supermodel. Does Beverly Johnson? What about Janice Dickinson? Gia Carangi? Jean Shrimpton? For us, we're talking about the "It" girls of the decade– ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Janice Delarosa Short Story Young Janice Delarosa was a girl endeared and loved by her mother. As the first and only child after her mother's eight miscarriages it was clear to see that she was a miracle baby, one that her mother always claimed, "would bring her good fortune". But, for some reason, the goodness of her birth never came to fame as Janice was secretly a child of misfortune. No one could pinpoint why there were so many tragedies within the Delarosa family. It was as if death oozed from their bodily essence. It started with the death of Mr Delarosa at Janice's birth. For some reason, he went into cardiac arrest as soon as she came out of her mother's womb. When Janice asked what happened to her father, her mother said, "his heart couldn't bear the joy of seeing his first child". At the time it seemed like a logical explanation, but as the years went by anyone that encountered the family would drop like flies. The incident where Uncle Martel got hit by a bus or Aunt Nicey falling from a flight of stairs did not trigger any suspicions. It was just their time to go. But what put the icing on the cake was the loss of Janice's doting mother Karen Delarosa. Rattled with grief and guilt, Janice became overwhelmed by these series of tragedies that plagued her from the beginning of her time. For anyone, this would bring unbearable pain that would dissipate over time, but for a girl of such a young age, it was a devastating blow to the world she knew. The night of her mother's funeral Janice was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Janice Mason Art Museum Report I visited the Janice Mason Art Museum located in downtown Cadiz, KY. Some of the artworks in this exhibit include: The Reddest Thread, Cathy, Queen Anne, Poetry Man 1, Poetry Man 2, and Journey. Stacey Torres is an African– American folk artist, writer, and dancer. She was born in Jamaica, New York and currently lives in New Castile, Indiana. The primary focus of her work is women in natural settings. Her paintings include brilliant colors using different media and include watercolor, oil pastels, and acrylics. (2) The piece I chose to review was titled Journey. This was a large (24 x 36) acrylic painting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a cheerful, acrylic painting created using bold and bright colors made to contrast one another. Torres used unity and variety with a selection of lines, shapes, and colors. When you first view the painting, you will notice the directional forces that cause your eyes to view the painting in a particular order. Staring at the front center, the eyes will follow the path of lines that lead your eyes over the entire painting. When you take a closer look at the piece, you will begin to notice a repetition of certain colors and shapes. The painting is also asymmetrically balanced. In my opinion, the most important Principle of Design used for this piece is contrast. The figure of the woman in the front is significantly contrasted from the rest of the painting, and she is made to be the focal point. This piece is representational artwork. It depicts the appearance of a woman and includes subjects from the everyday world. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Commercial Analysis Essay On Janice Barkley As a campaign manager for my presidential candidate, Janice Barkley, I must use various strategies when creating my advertisements. The strategies that I will use for the audience on my side, include: card stacking, name calling, testimonials, and assertion. I will use these strategies in a series of commercials. In my first commercial, I will use card stacking. Card stacking is presenting information that is positive to an idea or proposal and omitting information contrary to it. The commercial will consist of a narrator stating, "Janice Barkley is a family women, who believes in gun control and the peace between nations." The narrator tries to make Barkley sound like she is peaceful and loving, which are positive in her audience's view. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Name calling is using derogatory language or words that carry a negative connection when describing an enemy. In the commercial the narrator says, "Janice Barkley is a very loving person; while her opponent, Mark Stanley, is a scandalous, degrading, greedy man who only wants to get into office to manipulate America into spreading hate." At the end of the commercial Barkley says, "I am Janice Barkley and I approve this message." This commercial contains derogatory language that puts Stanley in a negative light and appeases the audience's view of Stanley. My third commercial will contain testimonials. Testimonials are quotations or endorsements, in or out of context that connect a famous or respectable person. In the commercial, Michelle Obama is teaching a third–grade class when a gunman comes in ready to shoot the children and everyone ducks. The screen freezes then Michelle Obama moves and says, "This could be prevented if we elect Janice Barkley for president, these innocent lives would be saved and their parents would be grateful; vote Barkley, make the right choice." Michelle Obama is endorsing Janice Barkley and recommending that the audience vote for her. The audience will be persuaded by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
