Pagan History Essay
Pagan History
Paganism is a loose word for the large variety of polytheistic, shamanistic, and mystical non–
monotheistic religions. Paganism exists in all cultures, from paleolithic to technological, but has
historically waxed and waned. The ancient Egyptians are an example of a highly pagan society; so
are the ancient Romans; and all paleolithic cultures from the Old Stone Age to the present have
strong pagan elements. An example of a less pagan culture would be the West for the last thousand
years or so, since the centuries following the Fall of Rome. The domination of the Middle East by
Christians and Moslems has also largely shut out paganism.
Characteristic of paganism is a tolerance for other paganistic ideas, even those that ... Show more

The Renaissance lasted until the 16th century. Note that the Inquisitions lasted effectively until the
Enlightenment period, and were bad during the Renaissance, but ceased to be mostly ideologically
motivated after the first three centuries. The Inquisition had become a political arm of the Vatican, a
force useful in many ways other than suppressing heresy. It spent much of its time accomplishing
political, antifeminist, and covert goals of the Church. We see in the trial of the Templars in the
fourteenth century that uncommonly faithful people were caught in a secular political struggle
between the King of France and the Pope. They were routinely tortured, the usual prompted
confessions were given, and they were executed, for reasons having nothing to do with ideology or
heresy except as excuses.
It is also during the Renaissance that we begin to have evidence of what we may consider explicitly
religious paganism again. Most of the grimoires we have date from this era; alchemists, often
overtly Christian but employing pagan symbolism and texts, were most common during the
Renaissance; the Kabbalah and Tarot originate in the Renaissance, forming the backbone of modern
pagan symbolism. The Renaissance also saw the obscure origins of a rebirth, in improved form, of
Greek humanism, technically pagan because of its suppression by Christian Rome and its use of
theistic

Essay On Reino De La Magia
In a world far from ours where magic was essential for life, there was a kingdom named Reino de la
Magia, or the Kingdom of Magic. The kingdom was ruled by King Alejandro and his wife, Queen
Carmen. In this world, it was possible to transfer magic but doing so was very dangerous. Once the
magic of someone's body had disappeared, they would disappear too. To find someone to transfer
the magic willingly was the only problem for Alejandro and Carmen, though. They did not care
about what would happen to the people they stole the magic from. The king and queen were not
strong enough and did not know of many other people that were. Therefore, they could not transfer
the magic. Even if they had found someone willing to do it, the price to have the magic restored was
hefty. But still, they claimed they would do anything for the magic of their residents. ... Show more

"Give us the power of the whole kingdom," they demanded. The sorceress though did hesitate at
first, claiming that once the magic was taken, they would have to face the consequences until they
found someone new to give it back. Without thinking, they accepted and the process began. As all
the people of Reino de la Magia slept, the magic was drained from their bodies. Without magic, they
resident's bodies crumbled to dust. But even when they had all the magic they wished for, King
Alejandro and Queen Carmen were still not satisfied. For, magic was only used for two things, to
give or to take. But with no people to take from and no people to give to, the kingdom grew boring
and still. Carmen and Alejandro sat on their thrones waiting for their servants. They rang the bells
and hollered their names, but nothing happened. It was then when they finally realized what they
had done. Not only were their friends and family gone, but their servants were too. The two grew

Monarch Kingdoms: The Draconequi Alicorn Queen
300 years after the Draconequi Alicorn war, middle aged Alicorn Queen named Poison Heart ruled
an obscure kingdom just beyond the Everfree forest called the Monarch kingdom. Her kingdom was
surrounded by pure majesty as crystals in the shape of flowers grew naturally throughout her land.
She ruled her kingdom with 100% loyalty from her subjects; she didn't believe in violence so never
trained any pony to hurt another. The only fighting she knew consisted of only defensive spells, and
stances to help protect her kingdom from dangers. Only during times of war, which was rare since
they had few enemies, she would use the spell learnt through destiny and poison the heart of her

Is Peyote A Spirit, And A Gift From God Who They Call The...
All forms of Peyotism center around the belief that peyote is a spirit, and a gift from God who they
call the Great Spirit. The spirit empowers and connects us to our journey as people. Our lives are
transforming journeys and peyote is a tool that can help guide and direct it. "It gives the individual a
chance to re–evaluate their priorities. The head of the Peyote Way Church of God, which is a NAC
organization stated "Through the Holy Sacrament Peyote, the communicant experiences a loss of
selfishness and becomes aware of the god within." To native people, peyote is a way of life. It is a
ritual that has been established in their families for thousands of years. It can be compared to a
Catholics importance to baptism and communion, or a Muslims once in a lifetime trip to Mecca.
Also like most religions, there are special times and places to take part in spiritual events, which are
often called rituals. Rituals that take place in Peyotism can vary widely. Factors that contribute to
how ceremonies are run can include on the region of the organization, ethnic background of the
leaders of the organization, and legality issues surround the rituals taking place. The most popular
two ceremonies practiced in the Native American Church include the "half moon" fireplace and the
"crossfire" fireplace. The major differences between the ceremonies are the use of tobacco and the
emphasis of Christianity. The crossfire fireplace ceremony condemns the use of tobacco, and uses

Informative Speech On Wicca
In order for me to tell you how Wicca came to be I first have to tell you about witchcraft so lets get
started. Witchcraft was from way back when in the 15,000 B.C. when there where healers who
practice magic even in the bible it talks about witches and some believe that Jesus was a witch
because he could turn water into wine and heal the sick and so on but it went on to 700 B.C when
the Celtic lived in England and the Romans used there way of life such as pagan festivals and such,
then on to 560 B.c where in the bible it states that there are witch's and they shall not live, in 200
B.C. the Druids where first heard of, and in 300 A.D. When it was in pre christian time when The

In the 1970's the wiccan creed was born so that others could follow it. 1985 The District Court of
Virginia states that Wicca is a real religion and is protected by the First Amendment. There is a
reason for all of this and I will tell you the reason this all goes together with our knowing the history
you could not know how it all started Okay now that we have that out of the way lets get going on
the rest was started in the 20th century when it was hidden form the outside world they were going
off of what Margaret Murray stated in her books by this time though it was not Wicca it was occult

and called it that and said he was a witch it is said that Gardner rewrote rituals and spells form the
older ancient times form other witches and changed things to make it his own although he did state
that he used some not all were able to been read so he had to fix them but he did write his own.
Gerald thought that witchcraft would die out so that is why he wrote the books he wanted it to live

Abstract
Satanism is a blatantly, selfish, brutal religion. There are millions of Satanists worldwide. The occult
is on the rise because young people are seeking their identity through what Satanism offers. Anton
Szandor LaVey the creator of the Church of Satan believes in attitudes that are ungodly,
controversial, unethical, immoral, and perversive as evidenced by the present society.

Sections of Ephesians 6:10–17 say, "Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand
against devil's schemes for our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the powers of this
dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." It is also clear that the
everlasting battle between evil and good exists as evidenced by tragedy, and suffering in the world.
In Revelation 20:10– it is understood that it will take a long time for Satan to be destroyed
(http://www.truthortradition.com).
Satanism is defined as a small minority religion. The followers were different groups of people who
were Gothic, Religious or Satanic dabblers. The Gothic Satanists were belief to date back to the
middle ages to fables about "Witches". Women were believed to worship Satan and submit their
lives to him by kidnapping and killing babies. They harmed others using curses and black magic.
The Religious Satanists were adults who worshipped a pre–Christian deity Set. They were atheists
and agnostics who saw Satan as a symbol of power. The Satanic Dabblers are typically rebellious
teenagers who created their own black magic. They performed rituals and were responsible for
graffiti on buildings and sacrificing small animals (http://www.religiousintolerance.org.)

Buddhism and No-Self Essay
Eastern enlightenment religions have been gaining popularity throughout the western world for the
past few decades, with many people attracted to a "different" way of experiencing religion. As with
many other enlightenment religions, Buddhism requires disciples to understand concepts that are not
readily explainable: one such concept is that of no–self. In this essay I shall discuss the no–self from
a number of modern perspectives; however, as no–self is difficult to describe I shall focus on both
the self and no–self. Beginning with psychological aspects, and neurophysiological research on
transcendental meditation, I shall discuss the impact of modern brain science on our understanding
of the self and transcendence. Next I will outline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Modern psychology attempts to scientifically explain many aspects of our lives. Yet it seems that
when psychology meets religion the result is rarely a fair compromise. As an example, if faced with
a person claiming to have no sense of self a psychologist may suspect some form of dissociative
disorder. An excellent modern example of spiritualism clashing with psychological diagnoses is that
of the much–maligned Aleister Crowley; after years of searching for his own samyaksambodhi he
entered into a period of silence and claimed enlightenment – the psychological description of
Crowley is that of a paranoid schizophrenic who declined into catatonia. I simply wonder where the
line is that divides the religious experience from the psychopathological.
Neurophysiologists have shown interest in that state of no–self that Buddhist monks can reach while
in prayer. It has been found, using a specialized brain imaging technique based on CT scanning, that
the brain–state of Buddhist monks in deep meditation is radically different from that of the average
waking person (Newberg et al., 2001). In fact, during meditation the body changes its physiological
‘state' to a more beneficial pattern (Weiten, 2005, p. 145). This is not to say that Buddhism is "the
path" – similar brain patterns have also been found in Franciscan Nuns deep in prayer. Interesting
work has also been done researching the effect of electromagnetic interference on brain function.

Wilson's Use Of The Irony In The Harry Potter
The title page contains the following quotation from Tennyson: ''Break, break, break At the foot of
thy stones, O Sea! And I would that I could utter The thoughts that arise in me!"[4] An explanation
of the title on the facing page ends with the sentence, "There is no joke or subtle meaning in the
publisher's imprint."[4] This seems to be[according to whom?] an ironic joke–reference to the fact
that every word on the frontispiece apart from the name of the publishing–house had been subjected
to tortuous qabalistic self–exegesis, yet according to Robert Anton Wilson in his 1977 book Cosmic
Trigger I: The Final Secret of the Illuminati: This might have been a veiled warning about what will
follow, but is actually the first lie in the book; occult historian Francis King has carefully determined
the date on the imprint is inaccurate by at least a year.[5] In his Confessions, Crowley discusses how
the book was to lead to his joining Ordo Templi Orientis. He wrote each chapter at lunch or dinner
"by the aid of Dionysos," with one chapter that was especially troubling. He eventually was able to
get it written after much effort, but he remained dissatisfied and angry with it. Not too long after it

don't exist. Plants give us oxygen with which we break down food and get its energy. We give plants
carbon dioxide as we breath out. They make sugar with that, water and sunlight. They make energy
food with our exhale. Amazing, isn't it! Life is a dance of sunlight with the Earth. Plants get the first

Mr. Christmas: An Elf Girl
An elf girl and a human girl team up to save Christmas from a ruthless toy maker who has put Santa
out of business.
BRIEF SYNOPSIS
TUCKER TATE aka "Mr. Christmas" is putting Santa and Santa's toys out of business. EMMA (9) is
disappointed when Santa doesn't show up. She's mad at her mother MAGGIE (38) for moving in
with Tucker.
At the North Pole, an elf girl HOLLY (9) is disappointed when Santa Claus decides to shut down the
toy workshop. He won't be delivering any more gifts for Christmas.
Holly's father, LLOYD, decides to move to New York. He gives Holly a toy carousel to deliver to
Emma after Santa forgot to deliver it. Holly holds up the small carousel, wiggles her ears, and it
starts to sparkle and spin with Christmas Magic.

However, because she's an elf the idea of her having magic powers isn't as unique as the idea of a
human girl learning that she has the ability to make magical toys.
There are a lot of different paths or directions the story can take and it will all depend on the true
goal, as well as the inner struggle and emotional goal of the main protagonist.
Right now as structured, the pace feels sluggish. That's because the main protagonist isn't clear and
because the goal is not well defined until ate. Once the goal is established it gives the script more
focus. This is really where the real story begins. The story becomes much more engaging when the
girls decide to make magically toys and compete with Mr. Christmas.
Maybe add a contest where the toys compete against each other and the kids decide what are the
best toys with the stakes being Christmas. To add more tension, maybe Tucker sabotages Holly and
she lose her magical powers or abilities (the all is lost moment) and then she figures out how to get
her magic back to defeat

The Real Charlotte Character Analysis Of Charlotte
In the film "The Real Charlotte," based on the novel of the same title, written by Edith Sommerville
and Martin Ross, Charlotte can be perceived in a variety of different ways. The film takes place
during the 19th century, in an Anglo–Irish world, where there are social expectations of women to
become a housewife and tend to their husbands needs, opposed to holding a job and social status. In
this paper, there will be an analysis of how Charlotte's true personality, priorities, and devious
actions towards others is a result of her reacting against the patriarchal roles during the late 19th
century of the Anglo–Irish world. Despite the fact that Charlotte is a smart and intelligent woman, as
well as the daughter of "the Bruff estate agent," she was denied the position of estate agent due to
the fact that she is a female. This rejection led to Charlotte living a social–hungry life, where she is
desperate and will go to any cost to rise in the social ladder and gain any type of power she can.
Charlotte presents herself to others in a very masculine way. She resumes the roles of a male, doing
all the house repairs due to the fact that she views herself as an equal to them. She has her feet up on
the desk at work and throws back alcohol in one sip, just as the men would do. She is straying far
from the norm of what is socially accepted of woman during that time, reacting against what is
expected of her.
A characteristic of Charlotte is she prides herself on her abilities and

Buddhism Peter Harvey Sexual Yoga
In his Introduction to Buddhism Peter Harvey refers quite openly to "sexual yoga," so I will use that
term here.
Tantric Buddhism reevaluates the body, based on the early Buddhist insight that nirvana is realized
through bodily practice. The Guhyasamaja Tantra advocates sexual yoga, including pleasure as the
path to Buddhahood (enjoying desires without attachment requires a far more rigorous discipline
than simple abstinence). Sexual yoga is mostly practiced in the first Tibetan Buddhist school, the
Nyingma, founded by Padmasambhava in the 8th century. Only partners who have years of physical
training may practice sexual yoga. The seminal fluid, symbolizing the bodhicitta, is retained and
visualized as ascending through an energy channel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The essential reality of the phenomenal is always emptiness. This is the ultimate teaching of
interdependent origination. Phenomena themselves do not create suffering, it is craving that reifies
sentient energy into illusory objects of attachment (kinetic and static). Therefore, all energy is
essentially emptiness. Any phenomenon, therefore, can through realization be transmuted from a
factor of ignorance into a factor of enlightenment by the skilled means of quenching desirous
attachment towards it. As Ananda himself states in the Pali Canon, desire disappears entirely when it
is completely satisfied. Therefore, quenching (nirvana) is also the ultimate satisfaction of desire. In
order to realize this in practice one must be very advanced towards the realization of emptiness and
thus emancipation, for anyone else would not be able to overcome attachment and thus intensify
even more one's bondage to rebirth Therefore, by definition only the very advanced yogi can
practice sexual yoga. At the same time, there are also degrees of practice but sexual yoga is certainly
not a simple or an easy practice either to undertake or to be successful

Analyzing The Song Stairway To Heaven
Stairway to Heaven, a Stairway into my Heart By: Zain Kabani Stairway to Heaven is referred to by
many as one of the best rock songs of all time, I am one of those people. Written by Robert Plant
and produced Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, this song has topped many charts in its prime in the
either 1970s or seventies. Having been placed 3rd in 2000 by VH1 in its list of 100 Greatest Rock
Songs and 31st by Rolling Stone's Magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, shows
just how influential and great this song is. This song is one of my favorites and it is in my everyday
playlist along with several other great rock songs. The song begins with an acoustic guitar, a
chordophone, being played at a slow tempo, in 4/4 time. The guitar is finger plucked in a repetitive
rhythmic fashion. For me, this section sounds like the beginning of a folk song about a great hero
that once lived. As the song progresses, this effect is further amplified particularly by the addition of
the dynamic aspects of the flute. The aerophone is played very softly and with great range in pitch as
it starts low then gradually increases at the end of each section as it repeats. This section repeats
twice however the second time, the flute is played slightly differently and adds a lot of
ornamentation which creates a feeling of getting closer to finding out what the story of this hero is. I
find this to be very powerful as it grabs me as a listener, before the lyrics even begin. Listening to
this with my eyes closed makes me feel as if I'm in a forest, surrounded by villagers all listening to a

"My own belief is that there is hardly anyone whose life, if it were broadcast, would not fill the

Maugham was no stranger when it came to admitting he had a promiscuous private life. After
running away from his home in England, Maugham began publishing books and plays he had
written that soon made him thousands of dollars. With this new lifestyle, Maugham could afford the
elegant parties, couture clothing, and intricate homes in the French Riviera with facilitation. He had
an exciting and somewhat risqué way of life that was unheard of during the 1920's. Maugham was
known to interact with both genders sexually, and even the most carnal of his companions described
him as the most sexually enthusiastic man they had ever known. He had the lifestyle of many
celebrities who are exposed in today's tabloids. However, just like many celebrities of today,
Maugham was secretly a very unhappy man. This depression and search for life's true meaning are
seen vividly throughout his works. In Maugham's broken, unhappy world, he brings to his readers a
sense of repeated conformity and reflection of himself with his writing. William Somerset

Such as, the Holiday of "Easter" the painting of the eggs and the finding of the eggs, relates to Jesus

and near total paralysis. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant (junior grade) in the US Navy on
July 19, 1941. He briefly commanded an antisubmarine ship in the coastal waters off Oregon and
California where he claimed he disabled or sunk two Japanese submarines in May 1943. A Navy
investigation could not find any evidence that any submarine had been destroyed. Hubbard was
relieved of his command when he conducted unauthorized gunnery practice off the coast of
Coronado Island. According to the Navy he was "lacking the essential qualities of judgment,

Gardner. In the mid–1960's several Americans went to England and brought back the teachings of
Gerald Gardner thereby forming the modern Witchcraft of today. "The word 'witch' is derived from
the Old English meaning wicca, it is pronounced 'witcha' meaning male witch , and wicce,
pronounced 'witcheh' meaning female witch" (Russell 12). Witches believe in the Goddess and the
God. They are believed to be the sole creator of the universe. The Goddess represents Mother
Nature or Mother Earth. She is associated with the moon, fertility, the hunt, and Modern Witchcraft.
She has many names but is commonly known as Diana. She has many names and many shapes, but
over all, the Goddess is anything a witch wants her to be. The God is named "The Horned God". He
represents the sun, grain, and is seen in the woodlands. The witches associate The God with Pan, the
Greek god of fertility. This is one of the reasons that many Christians believe Witchcraft to be evil.
During the time of the persecution of witches, the Christians mistook the worshipping of the fertility
god, Pan, as the worshipping of Satan, who the Christians believed to be horned, have a tail, hairy
legs, and hooves. The misconceptions of Witchcraft have been inaccurate and misleading. The
biggest misunderstanding about Witchcraft is its affiliation with Satanism. Satan is a demonic figure
from the Christian belief, not from Witchcraft. In Witchcraft there is no deity that is

Morning Of The Magicians
The recreation of the events of 1984 for spectators, as well as the airing of the documentary a year
later allowed for the true story of the original confrontation to be told, by the individuals involved.
34 The great attempts made to maintain historical accuracy while still ensuring the safety of those
involved, as well the interviews with participants that were included in the documentary, helped to
shed more light on the events that were poorly (and inaccurately) covered by the press at the time.
Deller was also able to make the connection between the events of the past and the society he was
living in.35 The Battle of Orgreave addressed the way in which news and current events are
mediated to the public, as well as the way in which we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The grounds are surrounded by sprawling suburbs which encroach upon the former utopia, calling
attention to the fact that this perceived utopia was not an everlasting place of myth, but instead a

however. The text included with the installation of the piece notes that the philosophies of Crowley
and his followers left them with a serious of problems, including "a heroin habit as an unwanted

moving towards freedoms and progress, Koester's Morning of the Magicians combats this notion.
Instead, Koester seems to point out that the advancements and perceived progress of the past were
not always gains, that risks often lead to failures, and that change isn't always for the better.46 In the
series, Koester shows the ruinous, sometimes catastrophic effects of historical change, while at the
same time documenting the failure of utopian experiments. 47 The series almost serves as a
prophesy for the future.48 Koester achieves a level of celebration of the idea of creative alternatives
and explorations that are linked to the history of the Abbey, and the stillness of the images, devoid of
all living creatures, seems to convey a sense of missed opportunity that is still

The Wicca Duo-Theistic Religious Movement
INTRODUCTION
Considered a duo–theistic religious movement, the Wicca was developed in England during the first
half of the 20th century and was introduced to the public in 1954 by Gerald Gardner, a retired
British civil servant. Wicca draws upon a diverse set of ancient pagan and 20th century hermetic
motifs for its theological structure and ritual practice. The dual aspect of said movement is
represented by the feminine and masculine essences subject to it; these essences are commonly
referred to by Wiccans as the God and the Goddess, "father heaven" and "Mother earth"
respectively.
A practitioner of Wicca is called a witch, either referring to a male or a female, but the idea many
people have of witches is a bit off the mark. Most people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Many people are under the impression that Wiccans use black magic or worship demons, not being
this the case at all. At its core, Wicca is very much a neo–pagan religion. It is built on the ideas of
the old pagan religions that died around the time when Christianity became popular. The Wiccan
concept of black magic is not summoning demons or performing black masses, on the contrary,
many Wiccans would simply call it negative magic considering it any spell that hurts someone else,
or attempted to help someone against their will. In spite of what many think, Wiccans seek to
cultivate a set of eight virtues mentioned in Doreen Valiente's Charge of the Goddess, these being
mirth, reverence, honor, humility, strength, beauty, power, and compassion. In Valiente's poem, they
are ordered in pairs of complementary opposites, reflecting a dualism that is common throughout

So Mote It Be Meaning
A few years ago I joined another on–line pagan school, and this one was not free. At the school I
participated in a Sabbat ritual, during which the High Priestess would type what she was saying, and
all of the participants after they had finished reading were supposed to type "So Mote It Be." I am a
very fast reader, even so, most of the other participants posted their replys before I had finished
reading. This made me believe that a lot of the people at the school were not taking the ritual or their
response, "So Mote It Be," seriously. This reminded me of attending church services when I was
child, and watching my brother goof off during the service, and then say amen to save himself from
getting into trouble. All of this gave me a false impression of what "So Mote It Be" means. My
experiences made me believe that so mote it be was like saying Amen, and although that is true, I
did not fully understand the seriousness of the term.
During my research I found that "So Mote It Be" is an archaic phrase, and a clue as to its meaning is
found in the antiquated word mote. According to the Merriam–Webster on–line dictionary, the word

which is used to signify passive agreement or approval. This phrase is primarily used at the end of
rituals or spells to actively confirm that the work is completed, and that the desired intent has been
manifested. It is also a request that the God and/or Goddess allow this intent to manifest at the end
of the spell or ritual. Using it in this manner is a confirmation that the ritual or spell is already
working. The key is active intent, for example instead of saying "I believe this will work," you are

Blessed Be: Wiccan Traditions
Blessed Be has become a casual greeting between many, used in the same way as Merry Meet and
Merry Part which Neo–pagans say in greeting each other, A form of Hello and Goodbye. This is
unfortunate, Blessed Be is a sacred term, to be blessed. It's roots go deep and well into many
religions, it can even be found in the Christian Bible:, ""I will bless you, I will make your name
great." : in Judaism "Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe..." this is a Jewish
blessing for moments of joy.
It has been used in seems to have first appeared in the Wiccan Traditions as part of an initiation and

Hundred of years before the Wiccan traditions appeared the term Blessed Be had been used in
Ceremonial Magic and also Thelema and Hermeticism; both religions of spiritual philosophy.
Aleister Crowley, author, magician and member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn was
instrumental in developing Thelema philosophy into what it is today. He wrote the "Book Of Law"
in which it is stated; "The word of the law is Thelema": Thelema comes from the Greek word
meaning "will" or "intention". It further states "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law"
which is very similar to the Wiccan Rede.
The dictionary defines the word "Blessed" "to make holy", "endow with divine favor and
protection"and the word "Bless""To invoke divine favor on". While the saying of it to each other in
greeting seems respectful ie: "May you be blessed.", these definitions help to demonstrate the
importance of the phrase and that it should not be used lightly. To use the term "Blessed Be" is akin
to asking The Goddess or Powers That Be to be one with that person, to "Bless" that person and so

What Does So Mote It Be Mean
According to Webster's dictionary, the word mote was originally a Saxon verb which meant "must."
This roughly making "So Mote it Be" to "So Must it Be." It means "so may it be", "so it is required"
or "so must it be", and may be said at the end of a prayer in a similar way to "amen".
The word mote is an archaic verb that means "may" or "might," and traces back to Old English. The
phrase "So mote it be" means "So may it be," which is the same as "So be it." In Wiccan traditions,
the phrase often appears as a way of wrapping up a ritual or magical working. It's basically a way of
saying, "And so it shall be" or "As I will it, so it shall be". This is also a way of asking the
God/Goddess, if they will it or the believe it to happen, so it shall be. "So mote it be" is a ritual

Again, I have never heard of it used as such a way that I believed that it was used that when cast it

My personal opinion on this is that, I love using the word. As I said it's so simply to fit in the things
I do every day. Best thing also is you don't even have to speak this out loud. You can think it.
It's a lovely way to end rituals and spells. Regardless, it's no surprise that the phrase turns up in
contemporary Pagan practice, considering the influence that the Masons had on both Gardner and
Crowley.
The important things to remember about this term is that "So mote it be" means "It must happen this
way" and serves to manifest what the speaker has just said.
Wiccans also use this phrase to indicate agreement with something another person says. Like other
useful phrases, it has spread far beyond the Wiccan tradition.
Also, at the least to say that part of the reason this term is important is because the answer goes back
to the Regius Poem of about 1390 AD, the oldest known Masonic document (now housed in the

Many times, if you ask a person what is a Rede, they might say it is a prayer or oath. When quite
actually it has nothing to do with any religion at all. The term "Rede" is a Middle English verb, that
simply means "to give counsel, or to advise." Another interpretation of the word "Rede" is from the
Old English word of "roedan", which means "to guide or direct." Both definitions of the word are
similar, to counsel or give advice, one is guiding or directing a person they are trying to help.
However, these terms do not seem to be in line with the term "Rede" when it coincides with the
Pagan religion of Wicca. There is a funny saying that I like to use sometimes; all Wiccans are
Pagans, but not all Pagans are Wiccans. What this means is that not every Pagan believes in the
Wiccan Rede. It is believed that the Wiccan Rede originated in the 16th century by a French writer,

believed that "men's souls and the universe are indestructible, although at times fire and water may
prevail." Even Julius Caesar wrote of the Celts "They wish to inculcate this as one of their leading

Mary, Eve, and Lilith in King Lear, Othello, and Macbeth
Feminist criticism often explores the symbolic or archetypal use of the Biblical figures of Mary and
Eve in literary criticism. One figure which seems appropriate to such discussions, but so far
neglected it seems, is the figure of Lilith. Indeed, in the case of Shakespearean criticism, Lilith
seems an appropriate model at times for such characters as Goneril, Regan, Lady Macbeth, and so
forth. Accordingly, it is my intention to explore this lost archetype and relate it to three of
Shakespeare's tragedies: King Lear, Othello, and Macbeth.
To begin, Lilith is an enigma in many circles, with varying tales and legends ascribed to her. In

It would seem that in a Talmudic sense Lilith was associated with lust and the impurity associated
with it, giving birth to evils and ills. The majority of Hebrew sources reflect this dark image of
Lilith.
However, some are markedly different. The story of Lilith as told in the Alphabet of Ben Sira 23A–

When I was growing up I believed in the Christian beliefs; however I now practice Wicca. Look
closely at the Christian religion and notice how similar it is to Wicca. Although denied by most
Christians the similarities are there because "Christianity began in the middle of Pagan culture"

Modern paganism's history has been debated both within and outside of it. There are claims that its
traditions have been preserved and secretly handed down through the generations. Other suggestions
are that the "ancient traditions" are twentieth century constructions for which customs and tales of
folk religion have been the inspiration (History of Paganism, 2004). In 2000 BC "Babylon's Code of
Hammurabi instructs, 'If a man has laid a charge of witchcraft and has not justified it, he upon whom
the witchcraft is laid shall go to the holy river; he shall plunge into the holy river and if the holy
river overcome him, he who accused him shall take to himself his house'" (Anonymous, Timeline of
Neopaganism, Wicca, and Witchcraft, 2005, p. 1). That was the first recorded documentation of laws
against witchcraft aka Wicca. Logically Wicca was around prior to 2000 BC; otherwise why would
there be a law written to condemn a nonexistent religion? Prior to 1400 CE, during the middle ages,
there was a popular belief that "Satan–worshiping Witches" existed, who devoted their entire lives to
harming others by using dark magic. At this time the Christian church stated that there were no
Witches (Robinson, 2002).

hundreds of artists. This music was soft and chill. It also was not completely structured like music
from the 50's therefore one could freely dance to this type of music. The music of this time period
represented a new lifestyle that was not structured. The most long lasting legacy of the Summer of
Love was the music that defined and established the "feel–good atmosphere" that influenced many
musicians today. The relaxation music was a way of protest for the young hippies that were living

Aleister Crowley's Mystic Beliefs Dedicating his whole adult life to indulging in everything he
believed god would hate Edward Aleister Crowley, was nick named by his mother as "The great
beast of revolution whose number is 666." Aleister Crowley spent his life performing sex magic,
taking heroin, opium, hashish, peyote and cocaine, invoking spirits, and even once offering himself
to Russian authorities to help destroy authorities. (Conspiracy zone 3) Crowley's first act of action
was to join Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. He also joined the Ordos Temple Orients, in which
he practiced sexmagic. Leading to the establishment of the philosophical theory of Thelma, Crowley

The OTO was so much of a secret people died in their and no one ever mentioned how or why they
passed away. Having such free capability of practicing what they believe Crowley took this factor to
be such a great advantage. In 1912 Crowley than took over the OTO (Campbell 8 ) . When Aleister
took control he completely changed the way everything was going. "Crowley redeveloped its rights
under the philosophy of Thelmes and redirected it focus to spreading the teachings of Thelemes on a
global scale" (Campbell 7 ). Aleister tried his best to spread the philosophy of Thelemes through any
people he could talk to and possibly get to. He became so caught up in the fact of spreading
Thelemes that he completely changed the way that everything was in the Ordo Templi Orientus was
ran. He made everyone follow everything that he was saying and convinced them to the point where
they actually believed him. Having so much power Crowley continued to do much as he can so he
can let the word about Thelemes philosophy out to as many people he can possibly get to no matter
what it meant that had to get done for this to happen (Campbell 4). Before leaving to spread
Thelemes Crowley allowed open membership to men and women. Being that this was a time where
woman where not allowed to do much, having a woman being allowed to become a member of the

Bram Stoker Research Paper
Abraham "Bram" Stoker was born in Clontarf, Ireland on November 8th, in the year 1847. He had a
rough start to life, being rendered bedridden until the age of seven from an unspecified illness. He
was very weak as a kid and seldom left his house during childhood. These isolated years he was kept
entertained by his mother and the stories she told him. He took particular interest in the tales she
shared with him on the 1832 cholera epidemic, a widespread terror that claimed the lives of
thousands. His mother also detailed to him tales of Irish folklore, many of which carried dark stories
and spoke of creatures like vampires and ghouls. Eventually after the first seven years of his life,
things began to look up and a cure for his ailment was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His first foray into horror was his 1875 short story "The Chain of Destiny". He published his first
book in the year 1879. It was titled The Duties of Clerks of Petty Sessions a nonfiction,
administrative book. Stoker's first novel came in the year 1890, and was titled The Snake's Pass. The
novel was a romantic thriller and was set in his home country of Ireland. Many critics find his early
writings leave much to be desired, stating they are overdramatic and rely too heavily on tired
cliches. However, Stoker found great success when he published his novel Dracula in 1897. The
novel is widely regarded as a masterpiece and took him seven years to write. Several critics place it
as the greatest work of horror ever written. The novel was inspired to his visit to Whitby. There he
came across An Account of Principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia, a book by William Wilkinson
which pays homage to the history of Dracula. He also spent years researching traditional Eastern
European folklore and the geography to supplement his knowledge while

Similarities Between Frankenstein And The Kabbalah
FRANKENSTEIN AND THE KABBALAH
Kabbalah is a Hebrew word meaning "receive". Based on a structure called the Tree of Life, this
ancient mystical tradition helps us to comprehend the relationship between God, the Universe and
humanity, irrespective of our religion or ethnicity. This is not a religion; it is a tool which will help
us in our path of self–realization and spiritual development. The beauty of the Kabbalah lies in the
fact that we cannot be forced to interpret it in a particular way. The only thing required to study this
is a belief in a Higher Power. Literature has been and still continues to be influenced by the
Kabbalah. We can find elements, teachings or the symbols of the Kabbalah in almost everything
whether it is a piece of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

end could be a new beginning for both of them and that is the only way that they can start afresh,
learning from the mistakes of their past lives. One of the ways of crossing the abyss is by building a
tower. The Monster tries to do that when he stays with the family of the blind man. He even finds a
temporary island in the midst of the abyss that his life is. However, his physical appearance gets in

They can be identified by their "phrase from the stage" which are: ● I don't know if this church
meets my needs. ● The church is getting too big. ● Why do we have to learn new songs? ● No one
speaks to me at church.10 The length of time a person has attended church has nothing to do with
their level of growth. They need to surround themselves around mature Christians in order to go
from dependency to self sufficient.11 8 Putman, Harrington, and Coleman, 65. Ibid., 65. 10 Ibid.,

Christians who have overcome the Evil One and the Word of God abides in them.12 These
individuals are striving to become more concerned about others rather than themselves. They are
more students of the Word of God and the Great Commission. They are givers instead of takers.13
You can identify a Spiritual Young Adult by these phrases from the stage: ● In my devotion... ● I
will like to go to Uganda for a mission... ● I love being a worship leader because... ● I have three
friends that I witness to... These young adults need mentoring and a place to utilize their spiritual
gifts. Spiritual Parent Spiritual Parents are considered spiritually mature people who make disciples

Pagan History Essay: Exploring Ancient Religions

  • 1. Pagan History Essay Pagan History Paganism is a loose word for the large variety of polytheistic, shamanistic, and mystical non– monotheistic religions. Paganism exists in all cultures, from paleolithic to technological, but has historically waxed and waned. The ancient Egyptians are an example of a highly pagan society; so are the ancient Romans; and all paleolithic cultures from the Old Stone Age to the present have strong pagan elements. An example of a less pagan culture would be the West for the last thousand years or so, since the centuries following the Fall of Rome. The domination of the Middle East by Christians and Moslems has also largely shut out paganism. Characteristic of paganism is a tolerance for other paganistic ideas, even those that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Renaissance lasted until the 16th century. Note that the Inquisitions lasted effectively until the Enlightenment period, and were bad during the Renaissance, but ceased to be mostly ideologically motivated after the first three centuries. The Inquisition had become a political arm of the Vatican, a force useful in many ways other than suppressing heresy. It spent much of its time accomplishing political, antifeminist, and covert goals of the Church. We see in the trial of the Templars in the fourteenth century that uncommonly faithful people were caught in a secular political struggle between the King of France and the Pope. They were routinely tortured, the usual prompted confessions were given, and they were executed, for reasons having nothing to do with ideology or heresy except as excuses. It is also during the Renaissance that we begin to have evidence of what we may consider explicitly religious paganism again. Most of the grimoires we have date from this era; alchemists, often overtly Christian but employing pagan symbolism and texts, were most common during the Renaissance; the Kabbalah and Tarot originate in the Renaissance, forming the backbone of modern pagan symbolism. The Renaissance also saw the obscure origins of a rebirth, in improved form, of Greek humanism, technically pagan because of its suppression by Christian Rome and its use of theistic ... The kingdom was ruled by King Alejandro and his wife, Queen Carmen. In this world, it was possible to transfer magic but doing so was very dangerous. Once the magic of someone's body had disappeared, they would disappear too. To find someone to transfer the magic willingly was the only problem for Alejandro and Carmen, though. They did not care about what would happen to the people they stole the magic from. The king and queen were not strong enough and did not know of many other people that were. Therefore, they could not transfer the magic. Even if they had found someone willing to do it, the price to have the magic restored was hefty. But still, they claimed they would do anything for the magic of their residents. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Give us the power of the whole kingdom," they demanded. The sorceress though did hesitate at first, claiming that once the magic was taken, they would have to face the consequences until they found someone new to give it back. Without thinking, they accepted and the process began. As all the people of Reino de la Magia slept, the magic was drained from their bodies. Without magic, they resident's bodies crumbled to dust. But even when they had all the magic they wished for, King Alejandro and Queen Carmen were still not satisfied. For, magic was only used for two things, to give or to take. But with no people to take from and no people to give to, the kingdom grew boring and still. Carmen and Alejandro sat on their thrones waiting for their servants. They rang the bells and hollered their names, but nothing happened. It was then when they finally realized what they had done. Not only were their friends and family gone, but their servants were too. The two grew sad and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Is Peyote A Spirit, And A Gift From God Who They Call The... All forms of Peyotism center around the belief that peyote is a spirit, and a gift from God who they call the Great Spirit. The spirit empowers and connects us to our journey as people. Our lives are transforming journeys and peyote is a tool that can help guide and direct it. "It gives the individual a chance to re–evaluate their priorities. The head of the Peyote Way Church of God, which is a NAC organization stated "Through the Holy Sacrament Peyote, the communicant experiences a loss of selfishness and becomes aware of the god within." To native people, peyote is a way of life. It is a ritual that has been established in their families for thousands of years. It can be compared to a Catholics importance to baptism and communion, or a Muslims once in a lifetime trip to Mecca. Also like most religions, there are special times and places to take part in spiritual events, which are often called rituals. Rituals that take place in Peyotism can vary widely. Factors that contribute to how ceremonies are run can include on the region of the organization, ethnic background of the leaders of the organization, and legality issues surround the rituals taking place. The most popular two ceremonies practiced in the Native American Church include the "half moon" fireplace and the "crossfire" fireplace. • 8. Buddhism and No-Self Essay Eastern enlightenment religions have been gaining popularity throughout the western world for the past few decades, with many people attracted to a "different" way of experiencing religion. As with many other enlightenment religions, Buddhism requires disciples to understand concepts that are not readily explainable: one such concept is that of no–self. In this essay I shall discuss the no–self from a number of modern perspectives; however, as no–self is difficult to describe I shall focus on both the self and no–self. Beginning with psychological aspects, and neurophysiological research on transcendental meditation, I shall discuss the impact of modern brain science on our understanding of the self and transcendence. Next I will outline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 123–125) Modern psychology attempts to scientifically explain many aspects of our lives. Yet it seems that when psychology meets religion the result is rarely a fair compromise. As an example, if faced with a person claiming to have no sense of self a psychologist may suspect some form of dissociative disorder. An excellent modern example of spiritualism clashing with psychological diagnoses is that of the much–maligned Aleister Crowley; after years of searching for his own samyaksambodhi he entered into a period of silence and claimed enlightenment – the psychological description of Crowley is that of a paranoid schizophrenic who declined into catatonia. I simply wonder where the line is that divides the religious experience from the psychopathological. Neurophysiologists have shown interest in that state of no–self that Buddhist monks can reach while in prayer. It has been found, using a specialized brain imaging technique based on CT scanning, that the brain–state of Buddhist monks in deep meditation is radically different from that of the average waking person (Newberg et al., 2001). In fact, during meditation the body changes its physiological ‘state' to a more beneficial pattern (Weiten, 2005, p. 145). This is not to say that Buddhism is "the path" – similar brain patterns have also been found in Franciscan Nuns deep in prayer. Interesting work has also been done researching the effect of electromagnetic interference on brain function. Researchers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Real Charlotte Character Analysis Of Charlotte In the film "The Real Charlotte," based on the novel of the same title, written by Edith Sommerville and Martin Ross, Charlotte can be perceived in a variety of different ways. The film takes place during the 19th century, in an Anglo–Irish world, where there are social expectations of women to become a housewife and tend to their husbands needs, opposed to holding a job and social status. In this paper, there will be an analysis of how Charlotte's true personality, priorities, and devious actions towards others is a result of her reacting against the patriarchal roles during the late 19th century of the Anglo–Irish world. Despite the fact that Charlotte is a smart and intelligent woman, as well as the daughter of "the Bruff estate agent," she was denied the position of estate agent due to the fact that she is a female. This rejection led to Charlotte living a social–hungry life, where she is desperate and will go to any cost to rise in the social ladder and gain any type of power she can. Charlotte presents herself to others in a very masculine way. She resumes the roles of a male, doing all the house repairs due to the fact that she views herself as an equal to them. She has her feet up on the desk at work and throws back alcohol in one sip, just as the men would do. She is straying far from the norm of what is socially accepted of woman during that time, reacting against what is expected of her. Tantric Buddhism reevaluates the body, based on the early Buddhist insight that nirvana is realized through bodily practice. The Guhyasamaja Tantra advocates sexual yoga, including pleasure as the path to Buddhahood (enjoying desires without attachment requires a far more rigorous discipline than simple abstinence). Sexual yoga is mostly practiced in the first Tibetan Buddhist school, the Nyingma, founded by Padmasambhava in the 8th century. Any phenomenon, therefore, can through realization be transmuted from a factor of ignorance into a factor of enlightenment by the skilled means of quenching desirous attachment towards it. As Ananda himself states in the Pali Canon, desire disappears entirely when it is completely satisfied. Therefore, quenching (nirvana) is also the ultimate satisfaction of desire. In order to realize this in practice one must be very advanced towards the realization of emptiness and thus emancipation, for anyone else would not be able to overcome attachment and thus intensify even more one's bondage to rebirth Therefore, by definition only the very advanced yogi can practice sexual yoga. Written by Robert Plant and produced Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, this song has topped many charts in its prime in the either 1970s or seventies. Having been placed 3rd in 2000 by VH1 in its list of 100 Greatest Rock Songs and 31st by Rolling Stone's Magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, shows just how influential and great this song is. This song is one of my favorites and it is in my everyday playlist along with several other great rock songs. The song begins with an acoustic guitar, a chordophone, being played at a slow tempo, in 4/4 time. The guitar is finger plucked in a repetitive rhythmic fashion. For me, this section sounds like the beginning of a folk song about a great hero that once lived. As the song progresses, this effect is further amplified particularly by the addition of the dynamic aspects of the flute. The aerophone is played very softly and with great range in pitch as it starts low then gradually increases at the end of each section as it repeats. This section repeats twice however the second time, the flute is played slightly differently and adds a lot of ornamentation which creates a feeling of getting closer to finding out what the story of this hero is. I find this to be very powerful as it grabs me as a listener, before the lyrics even begin. He had the lifestyle of many celebrities who are exposed in today's tabloids. However, just like many celebrities of today, Maugham was secretly a very unhappy man. At the school I participated in a Sabbat ritual, during which the High Priestess would type what she was saying, and all of the participants after they had finished reading were supposed to type "So Mote It Be." I am a very fast reader, even so, most of the other participants posted their replys before I had finished reading. This made me believe that a lot of the people at the school were not taking the ritual or their response, "So Mote It Be," seriously. There is a funny saying that I like to use sometimes; all Wiccans are Pagans, but not all Pagans are Wiccans. What this means is that not every Pagan believes in the Wiccan Rede. The Greek writer Diordus Siculus (c. 60 BC – 30 AD) noted that the Druids believed "the souls of men are immortal, and that after a definite number of years they live a second life when the soul passes to another body." The Greek philosopher Strabo (c. 63 BC – 21 AD) observed the Druids believed that "men's souls and the universe are indestructible, although at times fire and water may prevail." Even Julius Caesar wrote of the Celts "They wish to inculcate this as one of their leading tenets, that souls do not become extinct, but pass after death from one body to another, and they think that men by this tenet are in a great degree stimulated to valor, the fear of death being disregarded." Elsewhere Caesar complained the Druids were a troublesome people. They were difficult to destroy. There is little evidence of reincarnation among the early Hebrew people but it later became a part of the Kabbalistic teaching. The teaching occurred among the early Christians, especially the Gnostics, Manichaeans, and the Carthari, but was later repudiated by orthodox Christian theologians. When asked by college students why Christianity does not teach reincarnation Patricia Crowther, a witch, answered, "...The early Christians taught it (reincarnation), and this can be proved by the words of Saint Gregory, Bishop of Nyssa: 'It is absolutely necessary that ... Mary, Eve, and Lilith in King Lear, Othello, and Macbeth Feminist criticism often explores the symbolic or archetypal use of the Biblical figures of Mary and Eve in literary criticism. One figure which seems appropriate to such discussions, but so far neglected it seems, is the figure of Lilith. Indeed, in the case of Shakespearean criticism, Lilith seems an appropriate model at times for such characters as Goneril, Regan, Lady Macbeth, and so forth. Accordingly, it is my intention to explore this lost archetype and relate it to three of Shakespeare's tragedies: King Lear, Othello, and Macbeth. The majority of Hebrew sources reflect this dark image of Lilith. However, some are markedly different. Modern paganism's history has been debated both within and outside of it. There are claims that its traditions have been preserved and secretly handed down through the generations. Other suggestions are that the "ancient traditions" are twentieth century constructions for which customs and tales of folk religion have been the inspiration (History of Paganism, 2004). In 2000 BC "Babylon's Code of Hammurabi instructs, 'If a man has laid a charge of witchcraft and has not justified it, he upon whom the witchcraft is laid shall go to the holy river; he shall plunge into the holy river and if the holy river overcome him, he who accused him shall take to himself his house'" (Anonymous, Timeline of Neopaganism, Wicca, and Witchcraft, 2005, p. 1). Prior to 1400 CE, during the middle ages, there was a popular belief that "Satan–worshiping Witches" existed, who devoted their entire lives to harming others by using dark magic.
