The Impact Of The Tang Dynasty On China
China, one of the world's first civilizations. Today, it is widely known for it's cultural and technological advances. China has a captivating and rich
history. China's rulers–known as emperors–had a long rein over China. Approximately 2000 years expanding over thirteen dynasties. Out of those
dynasties, the Tang was the most glorious of all. First off, the Tang dynasty had the greatest impact on China because it greatly influenced in China's
peace and prosperity, and was even referred to as the 'Golden Age'. The silk road was thriving between the east and west, causing the economy of the
empire to improve. "Along with the establishment of the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907) and a great prosperity in the economy, the Silk Road rose to its
peak in history. Before the An Lushan Rebellion (755–762), this world–famous road experienced its 'Golden Age' of development,"
(TravelChinaGuide). The empire of China was peaceful and celebrated; which meant everyone, peasants and even the emperor, were content and happy.
Another reason that the Tang dynasty was the greatest is its many incredible achievements. Some of these achievements include the development of
medicine and astronomy. One example of medicinal advancements is the smallpox vaccination that was developed. In addition to the smallpox
vaccine, they also discovered the source of diabetes,"The study of medicine is one of the highest contributions of Tang Dynasty as it is practiced
worldwide. The illustration of using herbs or

The Persian Empire : History
The Persian Empire Dominance:522 BC – 486 BC Existence:559 BC – 330 BC Fall: Around 330 BC The Persian Empire, also known as the
Achaemenid Empire, ruled from 559 BC to 330 BC. Spanning from Egypt to Turkey, the Persian Empire was the largest that the ancient world had
seen. The reason that the Persian Empire was featured in Amy Chua's book was not only because it was the first great leadership that the word has
seen, but also because of its sheer size. Today it is still one of the biggest Empires to ever exist. The Persian Empire had a huge influence on the
world 's grasp of economics, agriculture, religion and society in general. The Persian Empire contained a vast variety of cultural diversities, religions,

What goes up must always come down, declared Isaac Newton, and this holds true to most things, Empires included. In this case Alexander the
Great put an end to the once invincible Persian Empire. The downhill slope began with Darius III. The Persian Empire fell under his rule. As
uprisings started among the subjects, Alexander struck. Caught off guard, Darius couldn't handle the Greeks militia, and therefore causing the end
of the great Persian Empire. The Persian Empire contained a lot of culturally diverse people, as does any nation of that size. Part of this is due to
Cyrus the Great not enforcing any religion. "He embraced linguistic diversity" says Chua. All the rulers after Cyrus pretty much followed his lead.
They interfered very little with the lives of their subjects. This caused the growth of many cultures and religions. Back then, everyone had a more
barbaric way of living. Wars were fought over property, kingdoms constantly looked for new land to conquer. Now we have a much more civilized
way of approaching things. People no longer slaughter each other for an empty lot. Most likely the Persian Empire wouldn't last long. They might
have had control for a little while, but pretty soon things got out of hand. Alexander the Great took control, people started revolting against the power
of Darius III. One way or another, the Persian Empire would have

How Did Mao Zedong Bring Any Benefit To Chinese Society
Did Mao's rule from 1949 until 1976 bring any benefit to Chinese society? The destruction between 1949 and 1976 during Mao's rule does far
outweigh the benefits to Chinese society but the positive changes he made in his earlier years as Chairman also need to be taken into account.
Mao's intentions were always true but the way he carried out his plans is what caused the great death and devastation. The blame however cannot
be placed solely on Mao, as it was a contribution of many people and events that lead china to its state in 1976. Many of Mao's earlier decisions up
until 1957 were wholly beneficial to China in creating a new society. The lives of women enhanced greatly in 1950 when the new marriage law was

greatest asset – it's population." Its aim was to catch up with Britain in 15 years but instead it lead to industrial failure, crop failures, famine and a
marred truth. The introduction of communes were used to accelerate production and as seen in 'Mao – A life' peasants didn't like the militarisation of
their lives, thus causing a division. Mao's ignorance in economy and steel production was evident in both his "completely wasted" backyard
furnaces, in which he aimed to produce steel out of any metals and through the people's lack of incentive to work due to the iron rice bowl,
(guaranteed employment and wages). The population also tried to hide the truth from Mao, first with exaggerated weights of food and commercial
steel to impress Mao, and keeping the famine a secret from Mao by acting in the streets and painting the trees stripped of their bark. "It's better to
starve to death than beg or steal." Chinese culture was imbedded into them and they were powerless to break the patterns of behaviour enforced

Comparing The Greek Empire, The Tang Dynasty, And Ottoman...
Empire Comparison
A ancient history saw the rise of many kingdoms and empires that shaped the current world and its political activities. If anything, most of these
dynasties are attributed to have dictated the mode of governance and the general aspects of democracy, as they were founded during those eras. Most
kingdoms had their ways of governance but bear some similarities and differences as well. The Greek empire, the Tang dynasty, and theOttoman
Empire are examples of dynasties whose reign shaped history. These kingdoms underwent the general growth curve. This paper considers the individual
details of the Greek empire, the Tang dynasty, and the Ottoman Empires by highlighting the significant aspects such as the origin, the rise, and the
eventual fall while at the same time highlighting the factors that led to the occurrence of the mentioned events.
Greek Empire
Historians has not agree on the origins of the ancient Greece. However, most of them tend to converge on the thoughts that this origin can be traced
back to the 18th century BCE (Hart, 2014). Mycenaeans were the earliest inhabitants of Greece, but an invasion around 1100BCE left the region
uncivilized leading to the Dark Ages. Ancient Greek is known as the period before the emergence of the classical Greece; this was in the period
starting from around 800B.C to 500 B.C. the Dark Age saw the people living in small villages, which were scattered throughout the region. Later on,
these villages grew in size and

Tolerance Of The Tang Dynasty
From 618–907, the unprecedented leniency and tolerance of the Tang dynasty created a large hyper power, with alliances and trading and such. This
empire left a lasting impression on the Chinese. "These and other factors converged to produce a dynasty more tolerant of foreign cultures, religions,
and influences than any other in Chinese history." Taizong was the first emperor of thetang dynasty and set the precedent for his successors. His main
goal was to establish equality throughout the regions. He achieved this and became "the first Chinese ruler to establish dominion over the steppes." As
the Tang rule grew larger and larger, it engulfed areas like Manchuria, Vietnam, and parts of Iran. The way they chose to handle the commerce and

The Analysis On The Field Of Translation
According to Mona Baker, translation is a profession, like other industries. It is not just because you have a gift so that you can be a translator but
also because you have to put a lot of effort to make you become a good translator. They have purposes for their work, which is to produce the best
work as possible as they could, like other professionals. Skopos theory is a concept that focuses on purpose in the field of translation studies. It was
introduced by Hans Vermeer, a German linguist, in the 1970s. Skopos is a Greek technical term for the purpose, aim, goal or objective of the action
of translating. Vermeer sees language is a part of a culture and believes that both source text and target text are important in order to produce a... Show

That is why Baker says translators do a lot extra work to prove to themselves as to others that they are in control of what they do. Translating brand
names is an example. Translators have the right to decide how and what methods to use to translate a brand name. The aim of translating a good brand
name is to attach a desirable meaning and that corresponds to the sound of the original brand name at the same time. For instance, Coca–Cola, one of
the most famous soft drinks in the world, in Chinese, it is translated as 'еЏЇеЏЈеЏЇжЁ‚' (tastes good and makes you happy), which is pronounced as 'ho
hau ho lok' in Cantonese and 'ke kou ke le' in Mandarin. Both sound translation and meaning translation are used. This translation is not only able to
give a meaning to attach people to buy and drink the product, but also keeps the sound of the original brand name. This is a very good translation
indeed.
Language is a part of a culture. As Vermeer stated, 'culture consists of everything one needs to know, master and feel, in order to assess where
members of a society are behaving acceptably or deviantly in their various roles (translated in Snell–Hornby 2006: 55). This can be applied in
subtitling. Here is an example taken from the British TV drama Downton Abbey:

Du Fu was one of the greatest poets of China. Living during the Tang Dynasty, a golden age for literacy, poetry, and the civil service examination, Du
Fu flourished as a poet. Although he was a civil servant for a great part of his life, it was not until the An Lushan Rebellion, which began in 755, that

How the Atrocities of War Exemplify the Characteristic...
In his novella Night, Elie Wiesel portrays the horrors he and his family faced at the hands of Nazi Germany through graphic and moving descriptions of
his plight. A compelling excerpt, "I watched other hangings. I never saw a single victim weep. These withered bodies had long forgotten the bitter taste
of tears," demonstrates the utter disregard for human life that many of the world's leaders adopt in times of war, inspiring further research through the
evocation of a need to more thoroughly learn about the moral ambiguity that envelops those in positions of power during wartime. This characteristic
moral ambiguity of human nature is most clearly seen in the atrocities of war through institutionalized torture, mass death, and willingness of leaders to
sacrifice troops. Through analyses of conflicts such as the World War II, the Vietnam War, the Civil War, the An Lushan Rebellion, and the Muslim
conquest of the Indian subcontinent in such genres as non–fiction books, documentaries, the internet, music, and poems, the moral ambiguity of the
human race is proven to lead to atrocities of war such as institutionalized torture, mass death, and willingness of leaders to sacrifice the lives of their
troops. Many painful examples of disregard for human life can be seen across all instances of war, although perhaps most notably in the horrors the
Jewish people, among others, faced in the Holocaust of World War II at the hands of Hitler and the Nazi Party. The Holocaust, long viewed

Tang Dynasty Research Paper
The Tang Dynasty is commonly known for being the greatest imperial dynasty in China, it defined china by making it the wealthiest, most populous,
and most sophisticated civilization on earth, some of the things that made this dynasty so great were the history, economy, and politics.
The Tang Dynasty was the richest period forChina in terms of strengthening the economy, military, culture, and politics. This was all possible because
of the different Tang Emperors that used to rule in this period of China. TheTang Dynasty was originated due to an earlier downfall of an even older
dynasty called, "The Sui Dynasty" this dynasty had begun to crumble apart due to the reign of its own emperor called Emperor Yang; all these
problems caused many groups of peasants to rebel against their ruler. Due to all the recent commotion, the chief officer of Taiyuan Li Yuan, known as
Tangguo Gong, took matters into his own hands and created an army in Taiyuan to topple the current emperor. By the year 617, in the month of
November, Gong had successfully captured the capital (currently being Xian) and put a new monarch called Yang You, and was claimed as Emperor
Gong. Yang Yu proclaimed himself as prime minister and Tang Wang king of Tang.

Relationship Between The Tang And Song Empire
The Tang and Song Empires were two very powerful empires that ruled China after the Han and Sui Dynasties. The Han Dynasty left China fragmented
for centuries, and the Sui Dynasty reunified China until the Turks from Inner Asia assassinated the son who ruled. The Tang filled the political vacuum
in 618 with emperor Li Shimin (r. 626–649) who extended his power into westward Inner Asia. The Tang kept many Sui governing practices but
avoided overcentralization with giving nobles, gentry, and religious establishments power. The Tang Empire fell after the An Lushan and Huang Chao
rebellions that left the society homeless, a refugee, or a migrant worker. The empire fell in 907 after a warlord terminated their line. However, the
Song Empire had arisen in 960 and paid tribute to the Liao, who controlled the north. The Song Empire aligned with the Jurchens, who ended up
creating the Jin Empire, to destroy the Liao capital. The Song Empire was betrayed by the Jurchens and ended up having to pay tribute to them, which
some historians refer to as the "Southern Song" period (1127–1279). The Song Empire declined in the year 1126. The Tang and the Song had a variety
of economic, political, and social accomplishments, some that they shared, and some that they didn't. Both the Tang and the Song increased the use of
trade, had a change of size of their empires, and had major advancements in technology. Although, the Tang and the Song differed with the growth of

Achievements Of The Tang Dynasty As A Reunification Of China
The Tang Dynasty was a period characterized by thriving prosperity and flourishing arts. Unlike previous periods fluxing between unity and disunion,
the Tang established a reunification of China that lasted over three centuries and made China renowned as the most advanced civilization in the world
at that time. Many of its achievements, including its unique art styles such as sancai art, provided inspiration for proceeding dynasties thereafter.
Founded in 618 A.D. by former Sui general, Li Yuan, later known as Emperor Gaozu, theTang dynasty started with a six year reunification battle for
control. He established a state with a capital at Chang'an that retained most Sui practices such as the tribute system along with Civil Service
examinations with additional embellishments. The Civil Service Exam was a major improvement from preceding dynasties since officials had to have
a scholarly knowledge of Confucianism to work in governance opposed to the previous favoritism in electing positions. In addition, another powerful
ruler, Empress Wu, improved the period as she was the only woman to ever rule China and did so in a manner that ruthlessly established her capability
to rule, establishing a precedent for feminism to arise. Other notable achievements of this time include the construction of the Grand Canal, inventions
of gunpowder as well as printing on wooden blocks, and most importantly territorial expansion. Along with territorial expansion came economic

An Lushan Rebellion
Long ago in the ancient times of Chinese history there were dynasties. Of the dynasties there was one among the others that was referred to as the
golden age for China known as the Tang Dynasty. It is during this Dynasty a rebellion occurred that will forever hurt the Dynasty that leads to its own
fall. This rebellion was led by a man named An Lushan that will become known as the An Lushan Rebellion. But even then, theTang Dynasty had a rich
society, economy and government up until its fall.
During the Tang Dynasty era, it will have a number of rulers starting with Li Yuan or his title, Emperor Gaozu of Tang which means "High Founder"
(cite source). A few rulers later the Tang Dynasty will have their first empress, Empress Wu Zetian. During Empress Wu Zetian's rule, a coup

The final issue in the interpretation of s. 19(a) is the provision about trade names. The section states that, even if the particular purpose is known,
'in the case of a contract for the sale of a specified article under its patent or trade name, there is no implied condition as to its fitness for any
particular purpose'. Does this mean that because An Lushan ordered 'Yellow Turban' noodles he has bought by its trade name and therefore there
is no implied term under s 19(a)? This was the early interpretation in Wren v Holt (1903) where the purchaser asked for 'Holden's beer'. However
this interpretation was changed in later cases. The courts have given not given the provision about 'patent or trade names' its full literal meaning. An
example is the case of Baldry v Marshall (1925) where the buyer bought a 'Bugatti'. The modern interpretation is that the trade name proviso of
s.19(a) only protects Wu Zetian, the seller, if An Lushan specified the goods under their trade name in such a way to indicate that Wu Zetian's skill
and judgement was not being relied upon. This is not the case here so the trade name proviso would not apply. The conclusion therefore is that in the
contract between An Lushan and Wu Zetian there would be an implied condition that the noodles be fit for eating. However as discussed below, the
parties may agree to exempt the seller from

The Red Guard Movement Essay
The cultural revolution is a strange period in Chinese history laced with intense struggle and anguish. The cultural revolution mobilized the all of
society to compete for all opposing factions that they belonged to (Ong, 2016). Mao mobilized the young people of society during a background of
political turmoil, which helped Mao to mobilize the students in order to enforce his political legitimacy and ideas (Ong, 2016). Mao's charismatic
authority created his personality cult and most defiantly leant a helping hand in mobilizing the red guard movement (Ong, 2016) (Weber, 1946)
(Andreas, 2007). No matter which faction of the red guard they belonged to, they all mobilized against their common enemy; the better off, upper class.
(Ong, 2016). Multiple ideologies within the youth led red guard movement explain why the movement gained momentum and became incredibly
powerful (Walder, 2009).
The red guard movement can be primarily explained two different theories. The first theory is the lack of political cohesion and party factionalism
among the elites starting during the Great Leap Forward, which boiled into 100 Flowers Campaign and then subsequently the Cultural Revolution
(Meisner, 1999). It is the battle between these elite factions and the prohibition of dissent which resulted in the creation of the Red Guards, which in
effect served as agent for the Maoist faction (Yang, 2000). The second theory would be the breakdown of societal institutions, such as education,

Comparing Socrates And Li Po-Tu Fu
Essay Test 3 Socrates and Li Po Tu Fu
Question One: Fully explain who Crito is, what he wants Socrates to do, and (most importantly) why Socrates refuses to act as Crito wants. Your main
goal is to examine how Crito's proposal goes against Socrates's teaching that "the unexamined life is not worth living."
Crito was a long–time trusted friend of Socrates; an Athenian man who was highly devoted to his ethical teachings. He spent the last day of Socrates's
life beside him in the prison, attempting to persuade him to free himself despite the lawful punishment being inflicted upon him. Crito passionately
exhorts Socrates, although his pleas are purely emotional ad not well–founded in rational thought or reason. Crito uses tempting subjects, such ... Show

It was Li–Po that had failed, but gained a admittance into the Han–Lin academy through the direct recommendation of the emperor himself; although
this was unusual, it was not unheard of as the emperor would place those who found his favor in the academy. Tu–Fu set his aim on a similar goal;
after another failed attempt at the imperial examination, he began to petition the officials, and was appointed to the registrar of the right commandant's
office. He had passed into a highly respectable position without even attending the academy, and twice failing mandatory exams. Although Tu–Fu was
appointed to the registrar, the rise of the An Lushan rebellion disrupted his occupancy in the institution, as well as the social atmosphere in China. He
eventually resumed official position eight years later. These two instances are somewhat unique, as both of these men essentially snuck into these
positions through the back–door. Neither of them were able to successfully accomplish the official entrance exam, but they were relentless in their
pursuit of the position. Somehow, the emperor found favor in Li–Po, and the registrar found favor in the effort of

Li Bai Research Paper
Li Bai: A Life in Words The Tang dynasty of classical era China is renowned for its influence in the realm of the fine arts, including: poetry, pottery,
painting, and magnificent calligraphy. Two well–known poets of the Tang dynasty are the greats, Li Bai and Du Fu, both known for their flamboyant
and free–spirited poetry. Of the two, the poems of Li Bai that are still around today massively outnumber those of Du Fu. The life–story of the poet Li
Bai is steeped in extravagance, as well as, hardship and mystery. Li Bai, also known as, "Poet Immortal", was born in the year 701 CE in central Asia;
the exact location of his birth is unknown, but it is speculated to have been near modern–day Tajikistan. At the young age of five, Li Bai and his... Show

More than one thousand of his poems are still in existence today. He is best known for his yue fu poems that are often very intense and filled with
fantasy. There are many legends surrounding the persona that is Li Bai. Some legends say that he could compose poems at an astonishing speed
without having to make corrections afterward.
Li Bai's personal favorite form of poetry to write was the juejue, a "five or seven character quatrain." Approximately 160 of his poems are juejues.
Although the language that Li Bai uses isn't quite as knowledgeable as that of Du Fu, the poems of Li Bai are saturated with his grandiose imagination.
The works of Li Bai were so cherished by the people of classical China because the people, even the extremely poor, could relate to Li Bai's style of
writing. One of Li Bai's most famous poems is Drinking Under the Moon, how ironic. It was written very spontaneously and is filled with natural
imagery.
In the west, Li Bai was made known, partially, because of Ezra Pound's versions of his poems in Cathay, which is a collection of classical Chinese
poetry translated into English. Also, just a fun–fact about Bai's life; there is a crater on the planet Mercury named after him. Again, that seems very
ironic considering he may have died from mercury

Shinden Zukuri Architectural Style
Before the beginning of the Heian Period in Japan, Tang China had been influencing Japanese culture greatly until the An Lushan rebellion debilitated
the economy. Japan shut itself off from other countries and shunned China because of this cataclysm; they also began to cultivate their own culture.
One product of this new isolation was Shinden Zukuri, a Japanese architectural style used during the Heian period (794–1185). In this style, one story
buildings and corridors were always made of wood, never stone. The primary building, the Shinden, faced South and functioned as the sleeping
quarters for the residents of the house. The complex also had up to three opposing buildings known as Tai no ya that were on the North, East, and West
of the Shinden. The Tai no ya were extra rooms... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Wikipedia article called Japanese housing written in March 28, 2018, it states that there was no designated use for a room except for the
Genkan (shoe room), toilet, and Ofuro (bath). Any room can easily be transformed into the desired size using fusuma, sliding doors that create rooms
when needed. This shows that the Japanese value flexibility because of the many ways you can arrange a Japanese house. In the article Shinden Zukuri
Estates of the Heian Period written by Anthony Bryant, it says that the undeveloped space between two rooms or in the main courtyard was often filled
with nature. They placed one dominant tree, smaller trees, and an artificial pond in the open space. Women were named after the dominant tree in the
area that their pavilion faced. This demonstrates the fact that the Japanese value nature greatly in their homes and even name people after trees on the
property. Shinden Zukuri values both nature and flexibility because of ponds and trees that they add to the home for decoration and the fusuma screens

Analyzing The 'Imperial Medicine Master Place'
Similar passages can also be seen in the earlier version of the text translated by Xuanzang, which also specifies the Buddha's promise of freeing a nation
from disasters. Although other earlier versions generally correspond to Yijing's text, the latter includes many detailed descriptions of the Buddha, which
may be the main reason that Zhongzong desired the text to be retranslated. Notably, as the scriptural statement of granting of amnesty to criminals,
Zhongzong offered the general amnesties many times, especially during his second reign. In 709, he further announced an amnesty for those who were
exiled and banished to return home. Although he attempted to be a benevolent king, his political career was unsuccessful. Being a frustrated... Show

Negative Essay On Capitalism
he reason this is important to know is because the system of Communism when heavily analyzed is also at the same time heavily flawed when put
to practical use. To an extent, to have there be no class construct is impossible to pull of when coming from a Capitalistic system. As a systematic
way of life it educates and unearths flaws of a society, such as worker exploitation, money laundering and bribery. But past that it's impossible to
implement in any large society that is part of the global market such as China. Capitalism heavily favors the self, making individuals self motivated
to do remedial tasks in order to have some form of possession. If you remove both the individual and the material aspect from the citizens in the
society then they have little to no motivation to do anything without a reward or sign of improvement. Sooner or later this due to the inherent flaw of
humans in a society will cause the same systems that were exposed to happen all over again. The second main issue of Communism is that when
looked at closely, there is no end, if analyzed closely there is always some sort of 'Master–Student' dichotomy in all societies. Students learn from
teachers, children learn from parents, works listen to a supervisor for coordination, citizens listen to military and the people listen to the active party.
No matter how many times you can reform a state these things will always exist to properly function as a country. Specifically to China, this is no

Mao Zedo : The Legacy Of Mao's Governance Of China
Mirroring China's historical context and way of governance prior to 1949, Mao Zedong's replication of a centralized government with one man
dominating at the apex above all others and the tradition to put ideology before practicality resulted in Mao's overall legacy during his governance to
be mostly negative for China. Mao's legacy is one that has caused a widespread sentiment of fear in the people during the Anti Rightist Campaign which
immediately followed right after the Hundred Flowers Campaign and massive deaths in the population due to the over ambitious goal of the Great Leap
Forward
It is essential to take into consideration China's historical context and its way of governance of the people prior to 1949 in order to understand
Mao's way of ruling China during his time as Chairman, since both are highly parallel to each other, with the latter strongly influenced by the former.
In imperial China, the ideology that governed the nation was the ideology of "Confucianism, [which] valued hierarchy in both political and social
spheres. It assumed that in the political sphere citizens were not and should not be equal" (Lieberthal, 2004, p.7). This hierarchical framework
justified the right of the few to rule the many, [since admission to join the ruling elite was based on the criteria of whomever] could master the
ideology" (Lieberthal 2004, p.7). Therefore, one could gain legitimacy in ruling solely on the basis of his mastery of the state's ideology, regardless of

Chang'an's Delusive Market Prosperity After the An Lushan Rebellion

INTRO:
Interesting point: if look at Chang'an map (made by Lewis), think economy is good after rebellion since more lodging, shops more spread out, and
even less pleasure houses in Chang'an
BUT there's a reason why majority saw beginning of Tang more prosperous than in later half after rebellion (even though economy boomed in cities)
Time of peace, surplus, strong regulation over ppl
Rebellion aftermath = time of chaos, less regulation, scarcity
after rebellion, less gov solidity/control and poor actions in mitigating economic problems
An Lushan (Sogdian) favored by emperor: was appointed a high rank official, govenor of 3 defence forces in NE, dubbed prince. Rebelled in 755 after
hearing that a chief minister was trying to remove him from power and was scared to lose emperor's favor and status imposed on him. (10)
Conquered Chang'an
Seized control over Grand Canal and cut off funds/supplies to imperial court from south
Thesis: Although the government's relaxed government control over commercial activities in Chang'an created an economic boom after the An Lushan
Rebellion, frantic government regulations afterwards resulted in other ways of financial suffering that outweighs the perceived prosperity in the
markets. The poor administration of market registrations, land tax, and the salt monopoly underlie Chang'an's supposed prosperous market.

Marco Polo's Paradise In Heaven, Suzhou On Earth
When the Venetian merchant Marco Polo traveled to the orient, he saw many wondrous things. Two cities that inspired him a lot were Suzhou and
Beijing. In Suzhou he saw people who "could conquer the world" and in Beijing he saw a city that had a "standing truly unparalleled among the cities
of the World." These descriptions showed the immense greatness that both cities bestowed on guests from abroad and it is something that hasn't
changed over the years.
Over the years the Chinese gave Suzhou's grandeur this description: "Paradise in Heaven, Suzhou and Hangzhou on Earth." For Suzhou the splendor
started in the year 514 BC when King Helu of the Wu state decided to build a capital city near Lake Taihu. He tasked the project to his minister, Wu
Zixu, who designed the city to ensure environmental harmony. The effects of this can still be seen today as modern–day Suzhou is equal parts water
and land.
Over the years this city has grown to become one of the most storied cities in all of China. Firstly, Suzhou and its inhabitants have had a great impact of
war. As the capital of the Wu state numerous assaults were taken to cement the power of the state. Originally the name of the city was "Wu" to honor
the ruling power. This strong power was shown when King Helu managed to defeat the neighboring state of Chu due... Show more content on

trade between north and south China which then allowed rice and other crops to be available in the north.
B. Another example of an important public works project was the repairing of defensivewalls throughout the country. This project was important
because it helped prevent attacks from foreign invaders. It was also important because it was one of their many work projects that required forced

Siddhartha Gautama, Or The Buddha
Siddhartha Gautama, or the Buddha, founded Buddhism once he reached a state of dharma at age twenty–nine. Once he founded Buddhism, he
travelled the world trying to spread his philosophy. Buddha preached that the biggest hallucination in life is the tangible world. While spreading
Buddhism, he converted a small portion of South Asia. Buddhism was developed throughout South Asia by the main political powers of AЕ›oka
and the Tang Dynasty. AЕ›oka, the Mauryan Dynasty's third king ruled the empire at its peak. The Mauryan Dynasty Empire swept the majority
of South Asia. Accepting of other religions, AЕ›oka had access to a variety of people and religions residing in his reign. However, the king
remained in his traditional Buddhist ways and it showed throughout his rule. AЕ›oka wanted to spread dharma to his people, so he had the Pillar
Edicts made, the first tangible evidence of Buddhism scripture carved into stone. These pieces of stone have Asoka's ideas on animal justice, his
religious and moral standings, and social welfare . Having these palpable pieces of Buddhism diffused throughout his empire for public viewing was
one of the major ways he helped spread Buddhism. The Pillar Edicts, the stone pieces AЕ›oka had carved, shows how AЕ›oka changed his empire and
changed Buddhism. By applying Buddhism to ruling an empire, he developed Buddhism to become more adaptable, but did not allow it lose its purity.

Poets of the Tang Dynasty Essay
Throughout human history, our beliefs have influenced our actions. This is why we have studies like the humanities. During the Tang Dynasty,
different religions developing during the time had enormous influence on what was being produced during the era. When it comes to literature, poets
like Wang Wei, Li Bai, Du Fu, and Bo Juyi expressed their religions through their poetry during the Tang era. While it was not always directly
mentioned in their poetry, there are connections between the Tang Dynasty poets' works and their respective religions. Wang Wei (699–761CE), was a

1170)." His poetry really appeals to the senses. One of the ways that Buddhism was introduced to the Tang Dynasty was by means of a legendary
monk: Xuanzang. He traveled to India, while the city of Chang'an suffered from chaos, to study the original Buddhist scripts and later returned to China
to translate all of them and interpret the ideas for the people through his Weishi School (Wen, 77). The concept of emptiness is very prominent in
Buddhism – emptiness is neither reality nor total nothingness. "Thus, being and nothingness only differ in name; the ontological statuses of both are
emptiness (76)." In Wei's poem, Hermitage at Chung–nan Mountain he writes: "...and go there on a whim to wander alone. But even in all this
splendor, things remain empty. I climb to the headwaters where clouds rise up from emptiness (Davis et al. 1170)." The emptiness to which he is
referring is not literal emptiness, but to the underlying unity of all things. Also, the Chung–nan Mountain that he refers to was a part of the well known
mountains that draw many followers of Taoism and Buddhism because of their solitude. When he says "Growing older, I grow into the Tao..." he is
referring to the way of life that can be achieved by following Buddhist traditions. The poet Li Bai (701–762CE) was

In her novel Amy Chua explains how dominant empires of centuries past, or more commonly known as hyperpowers, have risen to dominance and
why they have crumbled. Her work examines the most famous and powerful empires found in history, from the Persian Empire to the Mongols. Chua
wastes no time in establishing her thesis which she clearly defends throughout the novel. Chua's clear and concise thesis is broken down into two
significant points. To start with she reveals that any empire or society that has risen to global dominance had been in some form tolerant. To achieve
superiority each hyperpower had to include a certain degree of tolerance, defined as the amount of freedom the individuals or certain groups of different

How the Mongols grew from warring tribes to conquering vast amounts of land never seen before, can be summed into one person, Genghis Khan. As
a boy under Ong Khan's rule Temujin helped conquer and unite the tribes of the steppe. Ong grew paranoid and tried to kill him but he survived,
leading a victorious rebellion against Ong, and instating himself as the great Genghis Khan ruler of the Mongols. He continued to broaden his empire
while implementing new laws. During his reign he conquered North China and much of central Asia. Once the other nations were defeated Genghis
Khan would absorb the new military, technology, and crafts of the people to better the empire. The empire was far more tolerant religiously and
ethnically than were to be believed, allowing all religions to flourish. Genghis Khan died in 1227 CE leaving his third son, Ogodei as his successor.
Ogodei though far more attracted to the empire's riches, was able to conquer Europe. After Ogodei's death (1241) Mongke took over bringing the
empire to its peak by conquering the Southwest Asia through the same strategic methods and tolerance of his grandfather. After Mongke's death a
power struggle arose, resulting in Khubilai's triumph. Khubilai finally conquering China became engrossed in the Chinese culture. With his death the
empire began to deteriorate. Mongols lost power in China and soon other Mongol territories took a turn toward intolerance, attacking different religions.
No glue held the empire together and it ultimately broke

Exploring My Hometown : My Hometown
My hometown is Zhucheng, a small beautiful country in Shandong Province, hosted by the Weifang, named after the ancient King Shun who was born
in north of the village of Zhufeng. There remains a lot of my delighted memory. Zhucheng is located in the eastern part of Shandong Province,
upstream of the Weihe river. The southern part of the country is low mountains and hills, and the northern part is plain depressions. In 2010, the total
area was 2183 square kilometers, with a total population of 1 million 88 thousand. Zhucheng is a warm temperate continental monsoon region, semi
humid climate, four distinct seasons, winter cold, summer heat, adequate illumination. Because the latitude is often affected by the intersection of
warm and cold air masses, the weather is changeable, and there are varying degrees of drought, hail and other disastrous weather. Therefore, if you
want to come to Zhucheng, you should first check the local weather in advance, and prepare the necessary items, such as umbrellas. Weifang is the
birthplace of Chinese kite culture. The headquarters of the international kite Federation. Zhucheng, as part of Weifang, kite is also one of its unique

emperor's attention. In one way or another, each of them had a way of getting to the emperor directly, but they choose to find their paths. Li Bo who

Poems by Du Fu were more recognized than those of Li Bo because he wrote much detail about himself and his family giving his readers the joy of
gaining ideas from their own. His poems like "Poet–Sage" and "Poet–Historian" contained much information about the ideals of Confucian especially
the inability of the government to stabilize again after the rebellion of general An Lushan in 755. Li Bo must have avoided direct and critical
writing on the political and social situation in China because he shared a kinship with the imperial family. He hence preferred to appear as a
stranger and focused on playful fantasy as portrayed in his poem "Drinking Alone with the Moon." He also imitated folk songs and ordinary
conversations as portrayed in "The Road to Shu is Hard." This did not mean that he had no problems with the government. His dissatisfaction was
revealed when he joined a minor revolt that made the emperor mistrust him. I realized that the difference is a level of recognition of works by these
poets depended on the style of writing. The majority of Li Bo's poems followed the older trend where poets had freedom of expression. Du Fu's
works, on the contrary, were based on the newer style which had restrictions. Du Fu's works were, therefore, more preferred by the later generations
especially those he wrote in the last decades which further included arguably and indirect

The Impact Of The Tang Dynasty On China

  • 1. The Impact Of The Tang Dynasty On China China, one of the world's first civilizations. Today, it is widely known for it's cultural and technological advances. China has a captivating and rich history. China's rulers–known as emperors–had a long rein over China. Approximately 2000 years expanding over thirteen dynasties. Out of those dynasties, the Tang was the most glorious of all. First off, the Tang dynasty had the greatest impact on China because it greatly influenced in China's peace and prosperity, and was even referred to as the 'Golden Age'. The silk road was thriving between the east and west, causing the economy of the empire to improve. "Along with the establishment of the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907) and a great prosperity in the economy, the Silk Road rose to its peak in history. Before the An Lushan Rebellion (755–762), this world–famous road experienced its 'Golden Age' of development," (TravelChinaGuide). The empire of China was peaceful and celebrated; which meant everyone, peasants and even the emperor, were content and happy. Another reason that the Tang dynasty was the greatest is its many incredible achievements. Some of these achievements include the development of medicine and astronomy. One example of medicinal advancements is the smallpox vaccination that was developed. In addition to the smallpox vaccine, they also discovered the source of diabetes,"The study of medicine is one of the highest contributions of Tang Dynasty as it is practiced worldwide. • 2. The Importance Of The Tang Dynasty Is the Tang Dynasty Really Important? Our quote is "We took a bus to the nearby monastery of one of the greatest Tang dynasty Chan masters, Yun–men. Yun–men was known for his pity "one world" zen. When asked "What is the highest teaching of the Buddha?" he replied :"An appropriate statement." On another occasion, he answered: "Cake." I admired his directness."–Stephen Batchelor. Our facts is in the Tang Dynasty, the Silk Road was greatly extended. During the reign of the Tang Taizong, his military force defeated the Eastern Turks in 630, established friendly relations with the Western Turks and vanquished Gaochang (Turpan), Yanqi (Qarashar) and Qiuci (now Kuche). Our question that we used is why was the Tang Dynasty the most powerful dynasty in the world? The Tang Dynasty is the most powerful dynasty why and how did they become the most powerful dynasty? After the Anshi Rebellion broke out – the turning point of Tang Dynasty from prosperity to decline, the road started on its downhill path. The western regions were successively controlled by the Tubo (Tibetan Empire), Uyghurs (Huihu) and the Karakhan Empire. With its prosperity, many boomtowns and market centers appeared along the Northern Route. In 702, the Protectorate General of Beiting was installed with its administration center in Tingzhou (Jimsar), managing the Northern Route of the Silk Road.Although some historians of the Tang Dynasty have argued that it is a little bit important, closer examination shows that it is ... • 3. The Persian Empire : History The Persian Empire Dominance:522 BC – 486 BC Existence:559 BC – 330 BC Fall: Around 330 BC The Persian Empire, also known as the Achaemenid Empire, ruled from 559 BC to 330 BC. Spanning from Egypt to Turkey, the Persian Empire was the largest that the ancient world had seen. The reason that the Persian Empire was featured in Amy Chua's book was not only because it was the first great leadership that the word has seen, but also because of its sheer size. Today it is still one of the biggest Empires to ever exist. The Persian Empire had a huge influence on the world 's grasp of economics, agriculture, religion and society in general. The Persian Empire contained a vast variety of cultural diversities, religions, and later on, after the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What goes up must always come down, declared Isaac Newton, and this holds true to most things, Empires included. In this case Alexander the Great put an end to the once invincible Persian Empire. The downhill slope began with Darius III. The Persian Empire fell under his rule. As uprisings started among the subjects, Alexander struck. Caught off guard, Darius couldn't handle the Greeks militia, and therefore causing the end of the great Persian Empire. The Persian Empire contained a lot of culturally diverse people, as does any nation of that size. Part of this is due to Cyrus the Great not enforcing any religion. "He embraced linguistic diversity" says Chua. All the rulers after Cyrus pretty much followed his lead. They interfered very little with the lives of their subjects. This caused the growth of many cultures and religions. Back then, everyone had a more barbaric way of living. Wars were fought over property, kingdoms constantly looked for new land to conquer. Now we have a much more civilized way of approaching things. People no longer slaughter each other for an empty lot. Most likely the Persian Empire wouldn't last long. They might have had control for a little while, but pretty soon things got out of hand. Alexander the Great took control, people started revolting against the power of Darius III. One way or another, the Persian Empire would have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How Did Mao Zedong Bring Any Benefit To Chinese Society Did Mao's rule from 1949 until 1976 bring any benefit to Chinese society? The destruction between 1949 and 1976 during Mao's rule does far outweigh the benefits to Chinese society but the positive changes he made in his earlier years as Chairman also need to be taken into account. Mao's intentions were always true but the way he carried out his plans is what caused the great death and devastation. The blame however cannot be placed solely on Mao, as it was a contribution of many people and events that lead china to its state in 1976. Many of Mao's earlier decisions up until 1957 were wholly beneficial to China in creating a new society. The lives of women enhanced greatly in 1950 when the new marriage law was passed, with equal rights and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Deng Xiaoping lead Mao's Anti–Rightist campaign so it is he, rather than Mao who is responsible for those hardships and deaths. The Great Leap Forward 1958–61 was "to achieve greater, faster, better and more economic results" but in the end it caused the greatest amount of damage to "china's greatest asset – it's population." Its aim was to catch up with Britain in 15 years but instead it lead to industrial failure, crop failures, famine and a marred truth. The introduction of communes were used to accelerate production and as seen in 'Mao – A life' peasants didn't like the militarisation of their lives, thus causing a division. Mao's ignorance in economy and steel production was evident in both his "completely wasted" backyard furnaces, in which he aimed to produce steel out of any metals and through the people's lack of incentive to work due to the iron rice bowl, (guaranteed employment and wages). The population also tried to hide the truth from Mao, first with exaggerated weights of food and commercial steel to impress Mao, and keeping the famine a secret from Mao by acting in the streets and painting the trees stripped of their bark. "It's better to starve to death than beg or steal." Chinese culture was imbedded into them and they were powerless to break the patterns of behaviour enforced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Comparing The Greek Empire, The Tang Dynasty, And Ottoman... Empire Comparison A ancient history saw the rise of many kingdoms and empires that shaped the current world and its political activities. If anything, most of these dynasties are attributed to have dictated the mode of governance and the general aspects of democracy, as they were founded during those eras. Most kingdoms had their ways of governance but bear some similarities and differences as well. The Greek empire, the Tang dynasty, and theOttoman Empire are examples of dynasties whose reign shaped history. These kingdoms underwent the general growth curve. This paper considers the individual details of the Greek empire, the Tang dynasty, and the Ottoman Empires by highlighting the significant aspects such as the origin, the rise, and the eventual fall while at the same time highlighting the factors that led to the occurrence of the mentioned events. Greek Empire Historians has not agree on the origins of the ancient Greece. However, most of them tend to converge on the thoughts that this origin can be traced back to the 18th century BCE (Hart, 2014). Mycenaeans were the earliest inhabitants of Greece, but an invasion around 1100BCE left the region uncivilized leading to the Dark Ages. Ancient Greek is known as the period before the emergence of the classical Greece; this was in the period starting from around 800B.C to 500 B.C. the Dark Age saw the people living in small villages, which were scattered throughout the region. This empire left a lasting impression on the Chinese. "These and other factors converged to produce a dynasty more tolerant of foreign cultures, religions, and influences than any other in Chinese history." Taizong was the first emperor of thetang dynasty and set the precedent for his successors. His main goal was to establish equality throughout the regions. He achieved this and became "the first Chinese ruler to establish dominion over the steppes." As the Tang rule grew larger and larger, it engulfed areas like Manchuria, Vietnam, and parts of Iran. • 8. The Analysis On The Field Of Translation According to Mona Baker, translation is a profession, like other industries. It is not just because you have a gift so that you can be a translator but also because you have to put a lot of effort to make you become a good translator. They have purposes for their work, which is to produce the best work as possible as they could, like other professionals. Skopos theory is a concept that focuses on purpose in the field of translation studies. It was introduced by Hans Vermeer, a German linguist, in the 1970s. Skopos is a Greek technical term for the purpose, aim, goal or objective of the action of translating. That is why Baker says translators do a lot extra work to prove to themselves as to others that they are in control of what they do. Translating brand names is an example. Translators have the right to decide how and what methods to use to translate a brand name. The aim of translating a good brand name is to attach a desirable meaning and that corresponds to the sound of the original brand name at the same time. For instance, Coca–Cola, one of the most famous soft drinks in the world, in Chinese, it is translated as 'еЏЇеЏЈеЏЇжЁ‚' (tastes good and makes you happy), which is pronounced as 'ho hau ho lok' in Cantonese and 'ke kou ke le' in Mandarin. Both sound translation and meaning translation are used. This translation is not only able to give a meaning to attach people to buy and drink the product, but also keeps the sound of the original brand name. This is a very good translation indeed. Language is a part of a culture. As Vermeer stated, 'culture consists of everything one needs to know, master and feel, in order to assess where members of a society are behaving acceptably or deviantly in their various roles (translated in Snell–Hornby 2006: 55). This can be applied in subtitling. Here is an example taken from the British TV drama Downton Abbey: English dialoguesChinese subtitlesBack translations 'What is it?' 'A white feather, of course. However, Tang was one of the most powerful dynasty in the middle –age world and still able to survive from the riot. Tang is fortunate because series of internal dissension happened in An's army. In 757, An Lushan was killed by his son An Qingxu as to seize the power. This greatly fluctuated the morale and the structure of the troops. On the other hand, the Royal Guard forced the Emperor Xuanzong to execute Yang Guozhong and Yang Yuhuan as to show his apologize to the country. • 10. Du Fu Research Paper Du Fu: Making the Best of Bad Times Du Fu was one of the greatest poets of China. Living during the Tang Dynasty, a golden age for literacy, poetry, and the civil service examination, Du Fu flourished as a poet. Although he was a civil servant for a great part of his life, it was not until the An Lushan Rebellion, which began in 755, that Du Fu's career as a poet really began. Because the aesthetic behind his poetry was history and morality, Du Fu used the war and all bad that was around him to become a great poet and influence many people. • 11. How the Atrocities of War Exemplify the Characteristic... In his novella Night, Elie Wiesel portrays the horrors he and his family faced at the hands of Nazi Germany through graphic and moving descriptions of his plight. A compelling excerpt, "I watched other hangings. I never saw a single victim weep. These withered bodies had long forgotten the bitter taste of tears," demonstrates the utter disregard for human life that many of the world's leaders adopt in times of war, inspiring further research through the evocation of a need to more thoroughly learn about the moral ambiguity that envelops those in positions of power during wartime. This characteristic moral ambiguity of human nature is most clearly seen in the atrocities of war through institutionalized torture, mass death, and willingness of leaders to sacrifice troops. Through analyses of conflicts such as the World War II, the Vietnam War, the Civil War, the An Lushan Rebellion, and the Muslim conquest of the Indian subcontinent in such genres as non–fiction books, documentaries, the internet, music, and poems, the moral ambiguity of the human race is proven to lead to atrocities of war such as institutionalized torture, mass death, and willingness of leaders to sacrifice the lives of their troops. Many painful examples of disregard for human life can be seen across all instances of war, although perhaps most notably in the horrors the Jewish people, among others, faced in the Holocaust of World War II at the hands of Hitler and the Nazi Party. The Tang Dynasty was the richest period forChina in terms of strengthening the economy, military, culture, and politics. This was all possible because of the different Tang Emperors that used to rule in this period of China. TheTang Dynasty was originated due to an earlier downfall of an even older dynasty called, "The Sui Dynasty" this dynasty had begun to crumble apart due to the reign of its own emperor called Emperor Yang; all these problems caused many groups of peasants to rebel against their ruler. Due to all the recent commotion, the chief officer of Taiyuan Li Yuan, known as Tangguo Gong, took matters into his own hands and created an army in Taiyuan to topple the current emperor. By the year 617, in the month of November, Gong had successfully captured the capital (currently being Xian) and put a new monarch called Yang You, and was claimed as Emperor Gong. • 13. Relationship Between The Tang And Song Empire The Tang and Song Empires were two very powerful empires that ruled China after the Han and Sui Dynasties. The Han Dynasty left China fragmented for centuries, and the Sui Dynasty reunified China until the Turks from Inner Asia assassinated the son who ruled. The Tang filled the political vacuum in 618 with emperor Li Shimin (r. 626–649) who extended his power into westward Inner Asia. The Tang kept many Sui governing practices but avoided overcentralization with giving nobles, gentry, and religious establishments power. The Tang Empire fell after the An Lushan and Huang Chao rebellions that left the society homeless, a refugee, or a migrant worker. The empire fell in 907 after a warlord terminated their line. However, the Song Empire had arisen in 960 and paid tribute to the Liao, who controlled the north. The Song Empire aligned with the Jurchens, who ended up creating the Jin Empire, to destroy the Liao capital. The Song Empire was betrayed by the Jurchens and ended up having to pay tribute to them, which some historians refer to as the "Southern Song" period (1127–1279). The Song Empire declined in the year 1126. The Tang and the Song had a variety of economic, political, and social accomplishments, some that they shared, and some that they didn't. Both the Tang and the Song increased the use of trade, had a change of size of their empires, and had major advancements in technology. • 14. Achievements Of The Tang Dynasty As A Reunification Of China The Tang Dynasty was a period characterized by thriving prosperity and flourishing arts. Unlike previous periods fluxing between unity and disunion, the Tang established a reunification of China that lasted over three centuries and made China renowned as the most advanced civilization in the world at that time. Many of its achievements, including its unique art styles such as sancai art, provided inspiration for proceeding dynasties thereafter. Founded in 618 A.D. by former Sui general, Li Yuan, later known as Emperor Gaozu, theTang dynasty started with a six year reunification battle for control. He established a state with a capital at Chang'an that retained most Sui practices such as the tribute system along with Civil Service examinations with additional embellishments. The Civil Service Exam was a major improvement from preceding dynasties since officials had to have a scholarly knowledge of Confucianism to work in governance opposed to the previous favoritism in electing positions. In addition, another powerful ruler, Empress Wu, improved the period as she was the only woman to ever rule China and did so in a manner that ruthlessly established her capability to rule, establishing a precedent for feminism to arise. Other notable achievements of this time include the construction of the Grand Canal, inventions of gunpowder as well as printing on wooden blocks, and most importantly territorial expansion. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The final issue in the interpretation of s. 19(a) is the provision about trade names. The section states that, even if the particular purpose is known, 'in the case of a contract for the sale of a specified article under its patent or trade name, there is no implied condition as to its fitness for any particular purpose'. Does this mean that because An Lushan ordered 'Yellow Turban' noodles he has bought by its trade name and therefore there is no implied term under s 19(a)? This was the early interpretation in Wren v Holt (1903) where the purchaser asked for 'Holden's beer'. However this interpretation was changed in later cases. The courts have given not given the provision about 'patent or trade names' its full literal meaning. An example is the case of Baldry v Marshall (1925) where the buyer bought a 'Bugatti'. The modern interpretation is that the trade name proviso of s.19(a) only protects Wu Zetian, the seller, if An Lushan specified the goods under their trade name in such a way to indicate that Wu Zetian's skill and judgement was not being relied upon. This is not the case here so the trade name proviso would not apply. The conclusion therefore is that in the contract between An Lushan and Wu Zetian there would be an implied condition that the noodles be fit for eating. • 19. The Red Guard Movement Essay The cultural revolution is a strange period in Chinese history laced with intense struggle and anguish. The cultural revolution mobilized the all of society to compete for all opposing factions that they belonged to (Ong, 2016). Mao mobilized the young people of society during a background of political turmoil, which helped Mao to mobilize the students in order to enforce his political legitimacy and ideas (Ong, 2016). Mao's charismatic authority created his personality cult and most defiantly leant a helping hand in mobilizing the red guard movement (Ong, 2016) (Weber, 1946) (Andreas, 2007). No matter which faction of the red guard they belonged to, they all mobilized against their common enemy; the better off, upper class. (Ong, 2016). Multiple ideologies within the youth led red guard movement explain why the movement gained momentum and became incredibly powerful (Walder, 2009). The red guard movement can be primarily explained two different theories. The first theory is the lack of political cohesion and party factionalism among the elites starting during the Great Leap Forward, which boiled into 100 Flowers Campaign and then subsequently the Cultural Revolution (Meisner, 1999). It is the battle between these elite factions and the prohibition of dissent which resulted in the creation of the Red Guards, which in effect served as agent for the Maoist faction (Yang, 2000). The second theory would be the breakdown of societal institutions, such as education, leading up to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Negative Essay On Capitalism he reason this is important to know is because the system of Communism when heavily analyzed is also at the same time heavily flawed when put to practical use. To an extent, to have there be no class construct is impossible to pull of when coming from a Capitalistic system. As a systematic way of life it educates and unearths flaws of a society, such as worker exploitation, money laundering and bribery. But past that it's impossible to implement in any large society that is part of the global market such as China. Capitalism heavily favors the self, making individuals self motivated to do remedial tasks in order to have some form of possession. If you remove both the individual and the material aspect from the citizens in the society then they have little to no motivation to do anything without a reward or sign of improvement. Sooner or later this due to the inherent flaw of humans in a society will cause the same systems that were exposed to happen all over again. The second main issue of Communism is that when looked at closely, there is no end, if analyzed closely there is always some sort of 'Master–Student' dichotomy in all societies. Students learn from teachers, children learn from parents, works listen to a supervisor for coordination, citizens listen to military and the people listen to the active party. No matter how many times you can reform a state these things will always exist to properly function as a country. Specifically to China, this is no different, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mao's legacy is one that has caused a widespread sentiment of fear in the people during the Anti Rightist Campaign which immediately followed right after the Hundred Flowers Campaign and massive deaths in the population due to the over ambitious goal of the Great Leap Forward It is essential to take into consideration China's historical context and its way of governance of the people prior to 1949 in order to understand Mao's way of ruling China during his time as Chairman, since both are highly parallel to each other, with the latter strongly influenced by the former. In imperial China, the ideology that governed the nation was the ideology of "Confucianism, [which] valued hierarchy in both political and social spheres. It assumed that in the political sphere citizens were not and should not be equal" (Lieberthal, 2004, p.7). This hierarchical framework justified the right of the few to rule the many, [since admission to join the ruling elite was based on the criteria of whomever] could master the ideology" (Lieberthal 2004, p.7). • 36. Poets of the Tang Dynasty Essay Throughout human history, our beliefs have influenced our actions. This is why we have studies like the humanities. During the Tang Dynasty, different religions developing during the time had enormous influence on what was being produced during the era. When it comes to literature, poets like Wang Wei, Li Bai, Du Fu, and Bo Juyi expressed their religions through their poetry during the Tang era. While it was not always directly mentioned in their poetry, there are connections between the Tang Dynasty poets' works and their respective religions. Wang Wei (699–761CE), was a Buddhist poet that was born in to the upper class in Shanxi. He passed the Chin–Shi system – a system that was designed to challenge government and bureaucratic ... He traveled to India, while the city of Chang'an suffered from chaos, to study the original Buddhist scripts and later returned to China to translate all of them and interpret the ideas for the people through his Weishi School (Wen, 77). The concept of emptiness is very prominent in Buddhism – emptiness is neither reality nor total nothingness. "Thus, being and nothingness only differ in name; the ontological statuses of both are emptiness (76)." In Wei's poem, Hermitage at Chung–nan Mountain he writes: "...and go there on a whim to wander alone. But even in all this splendor, things remain empty. I climb to the headwaters where clouds rise up from emptiness (Davis et al. 1170)." The emptiness to which he is referring is not literal emptiness, but to the underlying unity of all things. Also, the Chung–nan Mountain that he refers to was a part of the well known mountains that draw many followers of Taoism and Buddhism because of their solitude. When he says "Growing older, I grow into the Tao..." he is referring to the way of life that can be achieved by following Buddhist traditions. The poet Li Bai (701–762CE) was ... • 37. Amy Chua Chapter Summaries In her novel Amy Chua explains how dominant empires of centuries past, or more commonly known as hyperpowers, have risen to dominance and why they have crumbled. Her work examines the most famous and powerful empires found in history, from the Persian Empire to the Mongols. Chua wastes no time in establishing her thesis which she clearly defends throughout the novel. Chua's clear and concise thesis is broken down into two significant points. To start with she reveals that any empire or society that has risen to global dominance had been in some form tolerant. To achieve superiority each hyperpower had to include a certain degree of tolerance, defined as the amount of freedom the individuals or certain groups of different backgrounds whether... As a boy under Ong Khan's rule Temujin helped conquer and unite the tribes of the steppe. Ong grew paranoid and tried to kill him but he survived, leading a victorious rebellion against Ong, and instating himself as the great Genghis Khan ruler of the Mongols. He continued to broaden his empire while implementing new laws. During his reign he conquered North China and much of central Asia. Once the other nations were defeated Genghis Khan would absorb the new military, technology, and crafts of the people to better the empire. The empire was far more tolerant religiously and ethnically than were to be believed, allowing all religions to flourish. Genghis Khan died in 1227 CE leaving his third son, Ogodei as his successor. Ogodei though far more attracted to the empire's riches, was able to conquer Europe. After Ogodei's death (1241) Mongke took over bringing the empire to its peak by conquering the Southwest Asia through the same strategic methods and tolerance of his grandfather. After Mongke's death a power struggle arose, resulting in Khubilai's triumph. Khubilai finally conquering China became engrossed in the Chinese culture. With his death the empire began to deteriorate. Mongols lost power in China and soon other Mongol territories took a turn toward intolerance, attacking different religions. I had no idea that poets struggled a lot for recognition which they mostly failed to achieve in their lifetime. The background information and activities of poets Li Bo and Du Fu of Tang dynasty exposed crucial facts to me. Li Bo and Du Fu of Tang dynasty are the most popular poets who followed different paths to get emperor's attention. In one way or another, each of them had a way of getting to the emperor directly, but they choose to find their paths. Li Bo who shared kinship relations with the imperial family got to the court bureau through friendship that he shared with Daoist adept. Du Fu, on the other hand, was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Poems by Du Fu were more recognized than those of Li Bo because he wrote much detail about himself and his family giving his readers the joy of gaining ideas from their own. His poems like "Poet–Sage" and "Poet–Historian" contained much information about the ideals of Confucian especially the inability of the government to stabilize again after the rebellion of general An Lushan in 755. Li Bo must have avoided direct and critical writing on the political and social situation in China because he shared a kinship with the imperial family. He hence preferred to appear as a stranger and focused on playful fantasy as portrayed in his poem "Drinking Alone with the Moon." He also imitated folk songs and ordinary conversations as portrayed in "The Road to Shu is Hard." This did not mean that he had no problems with the government. His dissatisfaction was revealed when he joined a minor revolt that made the emperor mistrust him. I realized that the difference is a level of recognition of works by these poets depended on the style of writing. The majority of Li Bo's poems followed the older trend where poets had freedom of expression. Du Fu's works, on the contrary, were based on the newer style which had restrictions. Du Fu's works were, therefore, more preferred by the later generations especially those he wrote in the last decades which further included arguably and indirect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
