Churches Should Not Be Divided
Why Churches Should Not Be So Divided
One of the core values in Christianity is to love one another like Christ loved us, but us as Christians
can't even seem to love each other in our own churches. Let alone other churches.
In a world already divided so greatly, we as Christians should strive to establish more unity and do
away with so much division within our own churches.
Let's face it, Christians don't necessarily have the best rep. There are major news stories of Christian
bakers refusing to bake a cake for a same–sex couple. You can watch videos such as this one,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIqJYqBrbI4 , where random people are asked their opinion on
Christianity and there are certainly people with unfavorable views on ... Show more content on

But most doctrine." People are certainly concerned about how the 'stigma' of not being tied to one
certain set of beliefs affects the church as a whole. I believe that this is a problem within churches
with denominations as well. I currently attend a Baptist Church. I attend Trinity Baptist Church to be
precise. I grew up in the Baptist church and am a born–again Christian familiar with the beliefs and
ideology of the Baptist branch of Protestant Christianity. So you may be wondering, why I would be
criticizing the very branch of religion I associate myself with. Or why I criticize any denomination
of Christianity in general. It is not as much that I am against the idea of people having different
perspectives of the same religion, or different ways to tell the same story, if you will. It is more or
less my wish to ease or even put an end to the compartmentalization of ourselves within our own
denominations and churches. A post from Starting Point puts in
Walker 3 into great words, "During Jesus' ministry, he prayed that his future followers would exhibit
a special kind of unity that would be a testimony to the world. So what happened? Rather than unity,
harmony, and cooperation, Christians are often known for their squabbles and divisions. Even when
they appear to get along, they divide up into hundreds of different groups, churches, and
denominations. For those who are not Christians, it seems

My Religious Upbringing. I Am A Member Of The Church Of
My Religious Upbringing I am a member of the Church of Christ. It is a non–denominational church
that lives by the New Testament in the Holy Bible, and uses the Old Testament as a source of
reference. In simple terms, it's a belief that the new law is in place and the old law has been put
away with Jesus's crucifixion. In the Old Testament, it was a command to sacrifice something for the
forgiveness of sins. Now, with the ultimate sacrifice being given for our sins (Jesus's Life) we do not
have to sacrifice no more. Instead we learn and study God's word and obey his word. I was born in
Germany; my mother was a devout Christian raised in the Church of Christ. We did not go to church
over there because my mother did not find one that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While others may not believe the same as I do, I find with the studies of the scripture, I feel I am
going to a church that follows the New Testament to the best of its ability. Just like every human
being everything has its faults, but I still believe we are still going to work the rest of our lives to try
and obtain the perfection that Jesus Christ had. I really started studying the differences in churches
at the age of sixteen, but by the age of twenty I had slacked off and started to drift away from the
church because of the troubles I had brought on myself. This is also the reason I'm in college at the
age of thirty–two and not holding a degree in my hand yet. In this paper the directions wanted a
comment on organized religion, and that depends on the definition of what people interpret
organized religion. I have heard organized religion referred to as only denominational churches and
as any church that meets regularly. The contrast between the two meanings vary deeply. For
instance, I am a member of a non–denominational church that meets regularly and to me it is an
organized religion. It is a church that has been set up years ago, that has its boundaries as to where it
functions. I believe without my church I would be a lost soul. It has given me a ground to live by

Elderly Adult Survey Paper
"Elderly Adult Survey" Mrs. Audine Blue is my client for this "Elderly Adult Survey." Interviewing
this lovely lady was delightful as she revealed her birthday of August 15, 1933 and is 84 years
young. The lovely Mother Blue originally from North Carolina was afforded to live for a while in
California, as well as, in New York before returning to North Carolina. Married to Mr. Henry

Asking about her parents, Mother Audine became sad considering they died while she was young.

reality, the church has played a major role in the life of Mother Audine Blue. Truly, the love for her

Reflecting on their relationship, she recalls anything he wanted, asked for, she gave him.
Unfortunately, her only daughter had a misunderstanding with years ago and they never reconciled.
And yet, Henry Shelton Blue, her husband left many years ago and never returned. Thank God for

Spread Of Christianity Essay
The Spread of Christianity and Missionary Involvement
"People tell me I am brave. People tell me I am strong, and I am not doing anything spectacular. I
am just doing what god has called me to do as a follower of him, Feed his sheep, do unto the least of
his people." Katie Davis was only 18 years old when she decided to make the life–changing step of
going to Uganda, to spread the love of god by teaching discipleship and offering food to kids
(Amazima Ministries) As simplistic as it may seem, Davis was igniting hope in these children's
hearts. From feeding them to spreading the word of god, Katie Davis is an echo from the sound
created centuries before, when a plethora of people decided to become vessels of god and become
missionaries in many parts of the world. Making the world as a whole better was the ultimate goal
of missionaries in the nineteenth century. As John Falconer once said, "I have but one candle of life
to burn, and I would rather burn it out in a land filled with darkness than in a land flooded with
light." Rather than taking this quote in its literal context, it is used as a metaphor to create the ...

John of Montecorvino (1247–1328) was one of the earliest Roman Catholic missionaries to India
and China. John belonged to the order of Franciscans, meaning he closely followed the teachings of
St. Francis of Assisi. He spent his time preaching in the Madras region of India and later traveled to
what is now Beijing, China. By the 1500s, the Catholic Church was actively engaging in missionary
activity in Japan. Even as early as the 13th and 15th century, the urge to spread Christianity through
a missionary movement were held rather strongly by other cultures and regions of the world. This

Religion In Non-Denominational Schools
Do you want your children taught what they should and shouldn't believe? In the United Kingdom,
state school are required by the Education System Act 1944 to teach religious education. This
encompasses a variety of religions but there is undoubtedly a heavy focus on Christianity in many
non–denominational schools. These schools are designed to avoid religious discrimination, and yet
they stick to one religion without thinking about those who do not follow it. Pupils from a range of
faiths attend these schools, as well as non–religious students, and they should not have to put up
with preachings that they do not believe in. They feel excluded from any religion–based activity
they are made to take part in. Many non–denominational schools have ... Show more content on

Should schools balance their curriculum more, continue as normal, or stop religious education
altogether? Personally, I believe that the first option is ideal. Teaching all religions fairly will not
create social barriers, nor will it force any beliefs on anyone who does not want them. Students will
still learn all they need to know about a variety of religions, and will be able to freely make their
own decision on what to believe without being influenced one way or another. Ideally, group prayers
would no longer be carried out, so that each child can say what they wish to whichever deity they
choose. Making everyone give the same message of thanks to the same God, focusing so heavily on
Christianity even from children's first year of school, taking students out of classes to tell stories
from the Bible – none of this is teaching them anything at all. Religion is certainly important in the
modern world, so yes, it should be taught in schools – but as sociology, not as a method of

Anglican Adherence From 1947 to 2011
How has Anglican adherence changed from 1947 to 2011?
Anglican adherence has seen a dramatic decrease from 39% in 1947 to 17.1% in 2011.
Which Christian denomination had the highest percentage of adherents in 2011?
In the 2011 Religious Affiliation in Australia census data, 'Catholic' recorded the highest percentage
of adherents, at 25.3%.
The 1971 Census included the option of describing yourself as having 'no religion' if this applied to
you. Why and how has this category changed since 1947?
Between 1947 and 1971, even if you did not practice your religion it was still expected that you
would identify yourself as being a part of your/ your family's religion. In 1947 the 'no religion'
category made up only 0.3% of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This formation is evident in the given signs as the church sign from 1965 shows the Methodist

order to maintain and grow the nations security, workforce and economy, 3million migrants from
Italy, Greece, and other European countries immigrated to Australia, in accordance with the 'White

Church, therefore whilst new religions were introduced, they did not have as much of a significant
impact of the religious landscape as the immigrants post 1972 did.
Whitlam's 'Multiculturalism' policy of 1972 was committed to non racial discrimination in regards
to immigration selection. This policy enabled immigrants from diverse cultures to migrate and

Asian countries, who previously, under the "white Australia Policy" were not allowed migrant
status. This change in policy allowed for the evolution of Buddhism (from Vietnamese countries)

Comparing The Foundation Of Orthodoxy And The Canon
The Foundation of Orthodoxy and the Canon For years, the dispute about what is fact and what is
opinion has been present in the church. This debate is seen, in modern day, through the different
denominations that are under the Christianity banner. Under the banner of Christianity there are
Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, Apostolic, Methodist, Seventh–Day Adventist, Church of God in
Christ (C.O.G.I.C), and Lutheran. Now, even though each of these denominations call themselves
Christians, their beliefs about the Christian "kingdom" are different. Some of the differences include
Catholics, who believe that you must confess your sins to the priest, even though the Bible, the same
bible that all Christians read out of, in the book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, at that time, I was only 12 years old, God had not endowed me with those gifts, but when I

take notice of the different teachings in different denominations. Now, I tried to deepen my research
using the Online Library, but my results continued to come back not found, but I was able to go on
line and research some things regarding the denominational differences. I was able to find an online
article that discussed the wrongs of denominationalism. In the article the writer stated that the
definition for denominationalism is "the tendency to separate into religious denominations"
(Copeland 2001). By this article, denominations are clearly non–scriptural, because God is about
unity, for as Paul states in the book of Ephesians 4:4–6, "There is one body, and one Spirit, even as
ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of
all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. Bibliography Copeland, Mark A.

Word Christian Research Paper
What does the Word Christian Mean?
1. What does the word "Christian" mean in the university's name?
The word "Christian" has been used extremely, and in some cases strangely, for over 2000 years.
Historically, it was born in the ancient city of Antioch. There, according to Acts 11:26, "the disciples
were first called Christians" (ESV). Since that first–century usage, "Christian" has defined religious
groups & sects, armies, athletic endeavors, political parties, and a host of entities and ideas which
probably would make those original disciples shake their heads in disbelief. "The Christian
Vegetarian Association? Wouldn't have dreamt it," Peter could have told Paul, if they both spoke
English.
A subset within all the uses of "Christian" is the group of churches and people which ... Show more

Evangelical is unique as a Christian identifier in that it describes a movement within orthodox
Christianity which transcends denominational and even confessional boundaries. Evangelicals exist
among Anglicans, Presbyterians, Quakers, Lutherans, Mennonites – lots of denominations!
Though several people have attempted to define this movement, the most broadly accepted
definition was crafted by British historian David Bebbington. In his book Evangelicalism in Modern
Britain (1989) he noted four distinctive, or characterizations, about evangelicals which have well–
described the movement all along its 400–plus–year history and throughout all the denominations
and global regions where it is found: "conversions, the belief that lives need to be changed;
activism, the expression of the gospel in effort; Biblicism, a particular regard for the Bible and what
may be called crusaderism, a stress on the sacrifice of Christ on the cross" (Bebbington, 1989, p. 3).
Please note that "powerful Republican voting bloc in the U.S." is not one of the distinctive.
"Evangelical" is first and foremost a historically theological, Christian

Festival of Faiths in Louisville, Kentucky
Festival of Faiths in Louisville, Kentucky. This festival encourages calls on different houses of
worship and sponsors lectures on world religions. The author refers to several advocates of religious
reconciliation, including the Dalai Lama, Martin Buber, Abraham Heschel, Thomas Merton, and
Pope John Paul II. Interestingly, Professor Niebuhr seems to lack a basic understanding of the
religions to which he refers. For example, he at times misunderstands the scriptures he cites. The
fundamental teaching of the Bhagavad–Gita, for example, is not "selfless.... duty," which he is
seemingly paralleling to the Protestant concept of noblesse oblige. But it is indeed the more
demanding Hindu practice (yoga) of disinterested action, which demands renunciation of the fruits
of any deed. Professor Niebuhr views interfaith dialogue as a means to overpower the "absolutism"
of fundamentalism in all faith traditions. And yet, these are exactly the people who are the most
reluctant to participate in discussion with those of other faiths or even other Christian
denominations. Professor Niebuhr sees interfaith understanding as a "civic discipline," akin to
honesty in paying taxes. While many Americans must travel a distance to discover a Sikh or Native
American with whom to engage in interfaith dialogue, Muslims are another subject. The
bibliography as well as the notes is a good resource for further reading. These resources are
especially significant for a book on interfaith dialogue as

again. It is regarded as a relatively modern movement within Christianity and has roots in the
Holiness movement of the Methodist Church. Pentecostalism is the foundation of the Good News

with God can thrive. The church has proudly served Cincinnati, OH and surrounding communities

The Three Assumptions Of Confessionalism
Many protestants, not brought up in liturgical church settings, find themselves taken aback and
confused when first reading the Nicene Creed. This is true especially pertaining to what the creed
says about the church. Unfortunately, in many Baptist, Pentecostal, and non–denominational
Churches, the Nicene Creed is unfamiliar or unknown to the majority of Church members. A
common argument against the use of creeds is "why use a creed when we've got the bible?" While
this may seem to be rooted in a very high view of scripture, Carl R. Trueman suggests that it is
possibly "an unwitting capitulation to the spirit of the age." In short, Trueman argues that the three
assumptions of confessionalism, the past being important and of positive relevance today, language
as being a stable transmission of truth throughout time, and the need for a body or institution
capable of composing and enforcing creeds, are all countercultural in today's world. Trueman's third
assumption can sound like nails on a chalkboard for many Christians. A seemingly ironic distrust of
religious organizations exists heavily within Christianity. This skepticism about the church is why
"one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church" can be a difficult thing to say, let alone believe. However,
it is a misunderstanding of the church that leads to distrusting the creed's validity when it comes to
the Bride of Christ. This paper sets out to affirm that there truly is one, holy, catholic an apostolic
church. Even in

Question 1:
Aboriginal religion is based on land. Land is the heart of Aboriginal Dreaming and provides the
assurance needed for the continuation of rituals and ceremonies (king, 2010, p.213). The effect of
Dispossession on Aboriginal spiritualities related to the separation from their land was enormous
and overwhelmingly detrimental.
The impact of British colonisation resulted in Australia being declared 'terra–nullius' 'land belonging
to no–one' and Aboriginal peoples were subject to policies of dispossession and protectionism in a
bid to the eventual demise of all facets of their traditional culture. (http://www.bookrags.com/essay–

Question 2:
In the period 1947–2006, the Australian population grew from about 7.6 million to about 20 million.
During this time there was an overall decline in the percentage of people identifying with a religion
(frost course notes, 2010).
According to source 2 Christianity remained the dominant religion in Australia, although non–
Christian religions continued to grow at a much faster rate. Since 1996, Christianity grew from
around 12.6 million to 12.7 million, but compared to the other religions and the total population this
number fell from 71% to 64%. Within Christianity, Anglicans dropped from 22% of the population
to 18.7%, and therefore resulted in a decrease growth of –4.7 within the time period of 10 years.
"Over the same period of time non–Christian religions increased from around 0.6 million to 1.1
million people, and collectively accounted for 5.6% of the total population in 2006" (king, 2010,
p.221).

population), Islam (1.7%) and Hinduism (0.7%). Of these groups, Hinduism experienced the fastest

The following year the North American Christian Convention was held and there was division

the fabric of social structure. Firstly, the church is located in Orange County, specifically Irvine
which has a vibrant religious scene. With a wide variety of churches to choose from in the area, Free
Chapel has to think of new and innovative ways to entice people to attend their church. This is
exemplified in the grandness of the church, and the modernness of the inside. When we asked the

Christianity Broadly Consists Of 2.18 Billion People Out
Christianity broadly consists of 2.18 billion people out of 200 countries who believe in the deity
Jesus Christ. Its followers, often believe Christ is "the Son" of the Holy Trinity and walked the earth
as the incarnate form of God. The population refers to these believers as Christians. Christians hold
the biggest amount of followers in the world compared to every other religion, so with this being
said they are people who should be studied and understood by others. Understanding Christians and
being open minded to everything they believe is something very important because the odds are
every individual will interact with a Christian in daily life.

Christmas is actually Christians way of celebrating the deity Jesus Christ, for that is the day they
celebrate his birth which occurred 2000 years ago. Even most non–Christians at least respect Jesus
as a great moral teacher. In addition, few would argue that this one man has had more impact on the
world than any person in history. "Christianity is responsible for the way our society is organized
and for the way we currently live. So extensive is the Christian contribution to our laws, our
economics, our politics, our arts, our calendar, our holidays, and our moral and cultural priorities."
The concept of universal human rights and equality comes exclusively from the biblical idea that all
people are created in the image of God. Christians even come into play when speaking about things
that have changed such as slavery and women 's rights. Two–thirds of the members of the American
abolition society in 1835 were Christian ministers. This was a big part in helping to stop slavery,
even though some Christians were known to own slaves Christianity itself did help to end slavery all

Personal Narrative: My Non-Denominational Christian Religion
I am an atheist, but it wasn't always that way. My entire life there was a constant pressure on me to
accept that there was a supreme being that created all. Even at a young age I couldn't bring myself to
fully believe this. I continued grasping for straws because, just like every other religious person, I
was scared of the "consequences" that would come with not believing. My Non–Denominational
Christian Church promoted telling this to everyone, even children.
Along with this idea, we weren't allowed to talk to people outside of our church regularly because
they were sinners and we didn't want to contaminate ourselves with the people that were going to
hell. Being that this isn't the lifestyle I wanted as an outgoing, young child, I began to dislike my
church. This idea soon morphed into targeting people inside the church also. ... Show more content

Throughout my life I have gone through many "good–luck charms". Divination is also a common
feature among religions. This was defined in the book as, "work of priests or people who have been
specially prepared for the task" (Hopfe and Woodward 23). This common feature does not go along
with my religious beliefs once again. It makes me think about fortune tellers, which I have always
wanted to go to. I believe that every religion consists of certain taboos, which is another common
feature among religions. Taboos are certain acts that should be avoided. This plays into my religion
tremendously. Most taboos of the Christian faith are set in the Ten Commandments. These would
include not committing adultery, stealing, using Gods name in vain, etc. Also there are other taboos
that society is becoming more and more lenient on as time progresses. One of which would include
the use of birth control. Christians do not allow anything that restraints the creation of life. In a
study done by the Zogby International telephone poll it found that only "26 percent supported the
prohibition against artificial birth control" (O'Reilly). This shows that although taboos are set in
every religion, they are adapting with the times as society sees fit. Age also plays a big role in the
seriousness of a taboo and what is considered a taboo among certain religions. Totemism is the one
common feature that was very shocking because of the abundance of totems surrounding every

My Grandmother 's Parents On My Dad 's Side Essay
My great–grandparents, Joe Seymour and Bonnie Hudkins are my grandfather's parents on my dad's
side, and they changed the denomination in which they believe several times. As a boy, Joe grew up
attending the Episcopal church, but as a young man, he converted to the Lutheran church when he
married my great–grandmother Bonnie who was born and raised a Lutheran. While my grandfather
was young, my great–grandfather sent him without telling my great–grandmother to an Episcopal
Boys Home to correct his misbehavior. However, my great–grandmother became upset that my
grandfather took him to the boys' home and there were other religious differences which led them to
leave the Episcopal and Lutheran church altogether and try out the Church of Christ. Once they
were connected with the Church of Christ, they accepted the doctrine that they were the true church
of the New Testament. My grandmother's parents on my dad's side were Robert Ross Jr. and Hazel
(Helen) Mayfield. Pentecostalism believes in the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of
speaking in tongues which is what Robert Ross grew up believing. However, Robert and Helen
decided to divorce soon after their children were born, and Robert remarried to a woman named
Mary. Mary's faith is in the Seventh Day Adventist church, so after marrying Mary; Robert
converted to be a Seventh Day Adventist to adapt to Mary's beliefs about diet and health as well as
life in general. My great–grandmother, Helen on the other hand, is

Reflection Paper
On November 26, I went to my first service at a non–denominational Christian church. My friend
and I took the 20–minute drive to Lake Mills to the Word of Faith Dominion Church. Being that I
consider myself a Christian, I figured that I would enjoy this service regardless of the differences
between being non–denominational instead of Immanuel like my usual, but nothing would have
prepared me for how amazing it actually was. As soon as we got there, we had someone hold the
door for us and someone was at the second door to great us. As we walked into the service area we
had also had another person waiting to great us. As we were there, many people asked us where we
were from and what encouraged us to come there along with telling us that they were happy that we
were there and that they hope that to see us there again. They seemed like a small close church and
they noticed that we were not regulars and made sure to make us feel as welcomed as possible and
seemed very interested in us. We started with singing with some modern Christian music, one of
which I already knew from songs we sing here at Waldorf during chapel. There was a brief sermon
before we watched a short film on people's stories of learning to surrender to God. They played a
music video about surrendering and invited us to surrender ourselves. It was truly an emotional time
for me, to the point where I was physically crying. They replayed the song while inviting to people

Religion Affected My Life
Growing up in the South–East, religion substantially impacted my life. I learned everyone was equal
and should be treated so. In contrast, I was taught only heterosexual relationships were accepted into
the Kingdom of God. As I advanced through my adolescent years, I discovered I was unique from
everyone else; I was not attracted to girls like my male peers were. Post few years of unsettled
feelings on the playground and in middle school gym class, at age fourteen, I concluded I was
bisexual. In the King James version, the Holy Bible inscripted, "Know ye not that the unrighteous

Religious and Belief Systems in Australia
Religious and Belief Systems in Australia
Q1. Outline the changing patterns of religious adherence in Australia from 1945 to the present.
There has been a lot of change in religious adherence since the end of the Second World War. At the
end of the war many Australians still had British ancestors and so most people were Christian. With
immigrants arriving in Australia after the war we started to see new religions grow. Orthodox
Christians came from places like Greece, for example. The Catholics have continued to grow in
numbers while some other Christian faiths have decreased in size. One reason why the Catholic
Church is growing is because of the arrival of immigrants from places like Africa and the
Philippines.
With the arrival of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There used to be a time when most people stuck with the religion that their parents followed. These
days more people are choosing denominational switching. This means that many people are no
longer making life long commitments to one church in particular. They are more likely to go
wherever they feel comfortable and look for a church that suits their needs.New age religions were
among the fastest growing faiths in the 2001 census, increasing by 140 percent in the five years
since 1996. New age religions differ from other faiths in that, while together they form an overall
spiritual movement, they nonetheless lack any singles unifying creed or doctrine. Adherents do tend
to share some similar beliefs and practices, which are often grafted onto other, more formalised
religious beliefs.
Another reason for denominational switching is that some parents separate or get divorced. Surveys
have shown that children from families that have broken up are more likely to stop following the
family religion. A study of people in Catholic and Protestant churches found the following pattern: If
a family was broken up because of divorce, Catholics were 1.7 times more likely to switch to a
moderate protestant church and 2.6 times more likely to switch to a conservative protestant church.
For many years there has been a number of Australians who describe themselves as having no
religion on the census. In the 2011 census, (http://www.abs.gov.au )22.3% of the

Bebbington on Evangelicalism
In the late 1980's, David Bebbington attempted to define what it meant to be an evangelical in
America. He came up with a four part definition. The definition has four criteria and they are:
biblicism, conversionism, crucicentrism, and activism. He wished to find a definition that would
show what unified different evangelical movements and denominations during his time.
Bebbington's definition can also be applied to modern or historic denominations and movements.
Bebbington's definition should fit with any church that defines itself as evangelical, but what about a
modern non–denominational bible church meets that definition? Also what does Bebbington's
definition say about the pre–bible belt Baptist movement in colonial America? If both a modern
non–denominational bible church and a pre–bible belt baptist movement meet the definition set
forth by Bebbington, then they should have some meaningful connection. However, that connection
between a "evangelical" church and a "evangelical" movement is not so clear. Bebbington's four part
definition is too wide and accepting to different interpretation to be called meaningful. Each part of
his definition needs to be explained and evaluated to see if any meaningful connection between a
bible church and the Baptist movement of early souther America have have any meaningful
connection under Bebbington's definition of evangelical. Bebbington's definition has four parts. The
first part is biblicism. Biblicism is a term which means

Church, Cultures And Leadership, Mark Lau Branson And Juan...
In their book, Churches, Cultures and Leadership, Mark Lau Branson and Juan F. Martinez point out
the perspective of "Practical Theology." (Part 1, 39) They also explain the purpose of "Interpretive
Leadership." (133) Their stories helped me understand how the circumstances challenge church
leaders. (Introduction, 19)
The authors focus on the continuous practice of "reflective discernment," to help church leaders
learn what is the idea required for a church to depend on God. (39) One of the authors named Mark
mentions an instance when he as a university chaplain intern, was invited by an African American
student and experienced a group prayer. Because Mark was a Scotch–Irish, his initial experience of
prayer in this group of students made no sense to him. Later he realized that it was the use of
language that had left a different impression on Mark. Also, he felt that his own theology in
comparison to one of the students named Keith who invited him was not the same. (40)The author
Mark mentions that after his reflective discernment, Keith's theology started making sense to him
and differences that seemed differences to him in theology, began changing. This instance, reminds
me when I first visited the Evanston Vineyard, a non–denominational church, which is the same
church where I am serving as a Pastoral Intern. The first time I attended a service here, I noticed an

How Does Religion Change Australia
Christianity is a major religious tradition due to the institutionalisation of Christianity in Australia; it
has remained the major religious tradition. The Immigration Restriction Act 1901 allowed European

When I was 18 years old, I became a volunteer translator for a non–denominational American
religious organization in Brazil. During that time, I visited hundreds of churches in many Brazilian
states. American missionaries founded most of the churches in Brazil. During my first training, I

Four Reasons To Resist
Four Reasons for Resistance
The first reason to resist is for emotional reasons. Many people have experienced abuse from
churches or Christians that were irritating. Some people come to terms with the fact that embracing
the Christianity religion would mean they are to accept and acknowledge that their loved ones
died/entered eternity without things like forgiveness or love. They have to acknowledge that there is
an eternity where loved ones can enter that is full of darkness, despair, and endless suffering. For
some people, the thought of those things can be too much to handle. The second reason to resist is
because of prejudice. This simply means the other person has entered the conversation with a
closed–mind. They have already prejudged your point of view before hearing what you had to say.
The individual is only concerned with defending their argument, and not being open–minded to
consider other views. The third reason to resist is due to cultural influences. Koukl (2009) says,
"Often Christians defend their own denominational peculiarities in a very biased way" (p.158). They
simply do not give any thought to the other side of an argument. Lastly, people resist because they
want to rebel against God. As a result, that is something that man cannot fix; therefore, resisting the
argument for this reason is valid. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes the charge of being biased can be justified. When an individual has clearly chosen a side,
it does not mean he or she has conducted an even, equal analysis. On the other hand, the individuals
who are not considered neutral can still be fair in the argument. For example, a theist believes in the
different laws regarding nature, but he or she is also open to other possibilities regarding the
supernatural intervention. As a result, both of these ideas are constant with her viewpoint of the
world; therefore, she is then able to form an opinion on its own merit (Koukl, 2009,

I am reminded of a non–denominational mega church in Chicago that is comprised of the upper
class of people and all kinds of modern facilities that to me personally gave an impression of
snobbery and a non–church experience. It seemed it was a public event that was for the sake of fun.
This further implicates the opinion that a church experience does not mean one is having "fun," but
worshipping God with one's heart and mind that needs to be fully involved. A worship experience
must be a true experience of interacting with God and being in the presence of God, which at the
same time, does not mean that churches should discontinue acts of hospitality and pastoral love.
Last year, at a denominational church, I came to experience a service that was most unfriendly,
unwelcoming, and questioned if that church offered a concert or an experience of worshipping God.
Israel Galindo delineates the concept of church programs as reflective of who they are, or what is

with the church." This has implications for church culture within churches and the relationship
between the clergy

School Prayer In Schools
School Prayer is a very controversial topic in our country today. Many famous figures in this nation
support the idea, but there is a number of citizens that do not. Wonder what the verdict is
constitutionally? Let's "dig in" and find out. The conflict of school prayer goes all the way back to
the nineteenth century. There was a lot of immigrants coming to the United States, and the majority
of them were catholic. A big influence on making school prayer in schools were mainly catholic and
other denominational and non denominational groups. In the twentieth century, a number of states
passed laws that it was mandatory for schools to have prayer and bible readings everyday before
class. School Prayer should be permitted in the United States because it is in the constitution, former
presidents have promoted it; and teachers would have freedom of religion in the class.
The Supreme Court made school prayer unconstitutional, but is still debated today. People who
agree with prayer say that if they remove prayer, that it is the public school's mission to "provide
children with an education in mores and values, as well as academic preparation." Supporters also
say that when students volunteer to pray, they have the right to the law of separation of church and
state, and other laws between the lines of freedom of religion. In "God we Trust" mottos and using
the Bible for swearing in public officials and federal holidays that have a religious background on

What Was The Impact Of Religion In America
Religion in America
Religion had both positive and negative impact on the lives of Americans before the Civil war. It
influenced the morals, rules and regulations of the colonies. Most of the colonies were established
based on Christian beliefs and values. There was great religious diversity; Massachusetts was
populated with pilgrims and puritans, the Quakers in Pennsylvania and Catholics in Maryland. Each
colony believed in their faith and expected everyone to follow their religion. Puritans believed that
they had been ordained by God to create a puritan society and did not believe in religious tolerance.
The Catholics on the other hand dominated Maryland and the Quakers dominated Pennsylvania.
Catholics and Protestants did not approve of each other religion. These divisions resulted in the
persecutions of those who had different beliefs causing settlement of different groups in different
colonies, hence the establishment of different states in America.

of the Bible, Baptist take a more loose understanding of the holy writings. Christianity originated in
the first century AD; Christianity teaches the life and death of Jesus Christ. The faith consists of
many different sects or denominations. The Roman Catholic ... Show more content on

During the twentieth century, the Pentecostal movement began to really surface although, there was
evidence of Pentecostalism in earlier times during history ("Pentecostalism"). The "Oneness
Pentecostal movement" is slightly more recent than other Pentecostal movements. Oneness
Pentecostal beliefs focus on the singular point that there is only one God, who manifests himself in
different ways; this belief separates Oneness Pentecostalism from other denominations that believe
in the Trinitarian doctrine. Oneness practices and teaching reject the belief that God is three
individuals; instead believe that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are "...merely titles reflecting the
different personal manifestations of the One True God..." The disbelief in the Holy Trinity also
affects the Oneness Pentecostal practices. Oneness believers practice baptizing in the name of Jesus
and receiving the Holy Spirit, followed by evidence of speaking other languages which are unknown
to the speaker. Oneness Pentecostals believe that the Holy Bible is the word of God, and absolute in
its contents ("Oneness Pentecostalism"). Although, Oneness Pentecostals believers support their
practices with biblical evidence, other denominations express their beliefs through biblical

Churches Should Not Be Divided

  • 1. Churches Should Not Be Divided Why Churches Should Not Be So Divided One of the core values in Christianity is to love one another like Christ loved us, but us as Christians can't even seem to love each other in our own churches. Let alone other churches. In a world already divided so greatly, we as Christians should strive to establish more unity and do away with so much division within our own churches. Let's face it, Christians don't necessarily have the best rep. There are major news stories of Christian bakers refusing to bake a cake for a same–sex couple. You can watch videos such as this one, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIqJYqBrbI4 , where random people are asked their opinion on Christianity and there are certainly people with unfavorable views on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But most doctrine." People are certainly concerned about how the 'stigma' of not being tied to one certain set of beliefs affects the church as a whole. I believe that this is a problem within churches with denominations as well. I currently attend a Baptist Church. I attend Trinity Baptist Church to be precise. I grew up in the Baptist church and am a born–again Christian familiar with the beliefs and ideology of the Baptist branch of Protestant Christianity. So you may be wondering, why I would be criticizing the very branch of religion I associate myself with. Or why I criticize any denomination of Christianity in general. It is not as much that I am against the idea of people having different perspectives of the same religion, or different ways to tell the same story, if you will. It is more or less my wish to ease or even put an end to the compartmentalization of ourselves within our own denominations and churches. A post from Starting Point puts in Walker 3 into great words, "During Jesus' ministry, he prayed that his future followers would exhibit a special kind of unity that would be a testimony to the world. So what happened? Rather than unity, harmony, and cooperation, Christians are often known for their squabbles and divisions. Even when they appear to get along, they divide up into hundreds of different groups, churches, and denominations. For those who are not Christians, it seems ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. My Religious Upbringing. I Am A Member Of The Church Of My Religious Upbringing I am a member of the Church of Christ. It is a non–denominational church that lives by the New Testament in the Holy Bible, and uses the Old Testament as a source of reference. In simple terms, it's a belief that the new law is in place and the old law has been put away with Jesus's crucifixion. In the Old Testament, it was a command to sacrifice something for the forgiveness of sins. Now, with the ultimate sacrifice being given for our sins (Jesus's Life) we do not have to sacrifice no more. Instead we learn and study God's word and obey his word. I was born in Germany; my mother was a devout Christian raised in the Church of Christ. We did not go to church over there because my mother did not find one that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While others may not believe the same as I do, I find with the studies of the scripture, I feel I am going to a church that follows the New Testament to the best of its ability. Just like every human being everything has its faults, but I still believe we are still going to work the rest of our lives to try and obtain the perfection that Jesus Christ had. I really started studying the differences in churches at the age of sixteen, but by the age of twenty I had slacked off and started to drift away from the church because of the troubles I had brought on myself. This is also the reason I'm in college at the age of thirty–two and not holding a degree in my hand yet. In this paper the directions wanted a comment on organized religion, and that depends on the definition of what people interpret organized religion. I have heard organized religion referred to as only denominational churches and as any church that meets regularly. The contrast between the two meanings vary deeply. For instance, I am a member of a non–denominational church that meets regularly and to me it is an organized religion. It is a church that has been set up years ago, that has its boundaries as to where it functions. I believe without my church I would be a lost soul. It has given me a ground to live by and ... Interviewing this lovely lady was delightful as she revealed her birthday of August 15, 1933 and is 84 years young. The lovely Mother Blue originally from North Carolina was afforded to live for a while in California, as well as, in New York before returning to North Carolina. Married to Mr. Henry Shelton Blue at very young age, they have one daughter, one grandchild, and one great grandchild. Asking about her parents, Mother Audine became sad considering they died while she was young. The cause of their death was hard work and cruel treatment that Mother Audine had to witness as a child. Serving God is important to her, being very involved in her Christian non–denominational church has kept her going through adult years. Namely, church programs she served include the Women's Ministry/Events; Usher Board; Senior Choir; Sunday School Teacher, as well as, feeding the homeless and young children. By all means, one can sense she loved being around people also ready to share candy/mints with everyone. Another key point, going out to eat or just riding around give her get joy. Similarly, interviewing Mother Audine relates to personal experiences that I have with two other ladies in their 80's. I thank God for the patience, wisdom and knowledge as I age. In reality, the church has played a major role in the life of Mother Audine Blue. Truly, the love for her church family is undeniable. However, she misses her great grandson that she helped raised. Reflecting on their relationship, she recalls anything he wanted, asked for, she gave him. Unfortunately, her only daughter had a misunderstanding with years ago and they never reconciled. And yet, Henry Shelton Blue, her husband left many years ago and never returned. Thank God for the closeness of her brother, cousins, her personal care giver and her church family that supports ... I am just doing what god has called me to do as a follower of him, Feed his sheep, do unto the least of his people." Katie Davis was only 18 years old when she decided to make the life–changing step of going to Uganda, to spread the love of god by teaching discipleship and offering food to kids (Amazima Ministries) As simplistic as it may seem, Davis was igniting hope in these children's hearts. From feeding them to spreading the word of god, Katie Davis is an echo from the sound created centuries before, when a plethora of people decided to become vessels of god and become missionaries in many parts of the world. Making the world as a whole better was the ultimate goal of missionaries in the nineteenth century. As John Falconer once said, "I have but one candle of life to burn, and I would rather burn it out in a land filled with darkness than in a land flooded with light." Rather than taking this quote in its literal context, it is used as a metaphor to create the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... John belonged to the order of Franciscans, meaning he closely followed the teachings of St. Francis of Assisi. He spent his time preaching in the Madras region of India and later traveled to what is now Beijing, China. By the 1500s, the Catholic Church was actively engaging in missionary activity in Japan. • 9. Religion In Non-Denominational Schools Do you want your children taught what they should and shouldn't believe? In the United Kingdom, state school are required by the Education System Act 1944 to teach religious education. This encompasses a variety of religions but there is undoubtedly a heavy focus on Christianity in many non–denominational schools. These schools are designed to avoid religious discrimination, and yet they stick to one religion without thinking about those who do not follow it. Pupils from a range of faiths attend these schools, as well as non–religious students, and they should not have to put up with preachings that they do not believe in. They feel excluded from any religion–based activity they are made to take part in. Many non–denominational schools have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Should schools balance their curriculum more, continue as normal, or stop religious education altogether? Personally, I believe that the first option is ideal. Teaching all religions fairly will not create social barriers, nor will it force any beliefs on anyone who does not want them. Students will still learn all they need to know about a variety of religions, and will be able to freely make their own decision on what to believe without being influenced one way or another. Ideally, group prayers would no longer be carried out, so that each child can say what they wish to whichever deity they choose. Making everyone give the same message of thanks to the same God, focusing so heavily on Christianity even from children's first year of school, taking students out of classes to tell stories from the Bible – none of this is teaching them anything at all. Religion is certainly important in the modern world, so yes, it should be taught in schools – but as sociology, not as a method of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Which Christian denomination had the highest percentage of adherents in 2011? In the 2011 Religious Affiliation in Australia census data, 'Catholic' recorded the highest percentage of adherents, at 25.3%. The 1971 Census included the option of describing yourself as having 'no religion' if this applied to you. Why and how has this category changed since 1947? Between 1947 and 1971, even if you did not practice your religion it was still expected that you would identify yourself as being a part of your/ your family's religion. Post WW2, under the growing mindset that Australia must 'populate or perish' in order to maintain and grow the nations security, workforce and economy, 3million migrants from Italy, Greece, and other European countries immigrated to Australia, in accordance with the 'White Australia Policy". Majority of these immigrants were adherents of either the Catholic or Orthodox Church, therefore whilst new religions were introduced, they did not have as much of a significant impact of the religious landscape as the immigrants post 1972 did. Whitlam's 'Multiculturalism' policy of 1972 was committed to non racial discrimination in regards to immigration selection. This policy enabled immigrants from diverse cultures to migrate and practice their religions in Australia. • 13. Comparing The Foundation Of Orthodoxy And The Canon The Foundation of Orthodoxy and the Canon For years, the dispute about what is fact and what is opinion has been present in the church. This debate is seen, in modern day, through the different denominations that are under the Christianity banner. Under the banner of Christianity there are Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, Apostolic, Methodist, Seventh–Day Adventist, Church of God in Christ (C.O.G.I.C), and Lutheran. Now, even though each of these denominations call themselves Christians, their beliefs about the Christian "kingdom" are different. Some of the differences include Catholics, who believe that you must confess your sins to the priest, even though the Bible, the same bible that all Christians read out of, in the book ... Now, I tried to deepen my research using the Online Library, but my results continued to come back not found, but I was able to go on line and research some things regarding the denominational differences. I was able to find an online article that discussed the wrongs of denominationalism. In the article the writer stated that the definition for denominationalism is "the tendency to separate into religious denominations" (Copeland 2001). By this article, denominations are clearly non–scriptural, because God is about unity, for as Paul states in the book of Ephesians 4:4–6, "There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. The word "Christian" has been used extremely, and in some cases strangely, for over 2000 years. Historically, it was born in the ancient city of Antioch. There, according to Acts 11:26, "the disciples were first called Christians" (ESV). Since that first–century usage, "Christian" has defined religious groups & sects, armies, athletic endeavors, political parties, and a host of entities and ideas which probably would make those original disciples shake their heads in disbelief. "The Christian Vegetarian Association? Wouldn't have dreamt it," Peter could have told Paul, if they both spoke English. A subset within all the uses of "Christian" is the group of churches and people which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Evangelical is unique as a Christian identifier in that it describes a movement within orthodox Christianity which transcends denominational and even confessional boundaries. Evangelicals exist among Anglicans, Presbyterians, Quakers, Lutherans, Mennonites – lots of denominations! Though several people have attempted to define this movement, the most broadly accepted definition was crafted by British historian David Bebbington. In his book Evangelicalism in Modern Britain (1989) he noted four distinctive, or characterizations, about evangelicals which have well– described the movement all along its 400–plus–year history and throughout all the denominations and global regions where it is found: "conversions, the belief that lives need to be changed; activism, the expression of the gospel in effort; Biblicism, a particular regard for the Bible and what may be called crusaderism, a stress on the sacrifice of Christ on the cross" (Bebbington, 1989, p. 3). • 17. Festival of Faiths in Louisville, Kentucky Festival of Faiths in Louisville, Kentucky. This festival encourages calls on different houses of worship and sponsors lectures on world religions. The author refers to several advocates of religious reconciliation, including the Dalai Lama, Martin Buber, Abraham Heschel, Thomas Merton, and Pope John Paul II. Interestingly, Professor Niebuhr seems to lack a basic understanding of the religions to which he refers. For example, he at times misunderstands the scriptures he cites. The fundamental teaching of the Bhagavad–Gita, for example, is not "selfless.... duty," which he is seemingly paralleling to the Protestant concept of noblesse oblige. But it is indeed the more demanding Hindu practice (yoga) of disinterested action, which demands renunciation of the fruits of any deed. Professor Niebuhr views interfaith dialogue as a means to overpower the "absolutism" of fundamentalism in all faith traditions. And yet, these are exactly the people who are the most reluctant to participate in discussion with those of other faiths or even other Christian denominations. Professor Niebuhr sees interfaith understanding as a "civic discipline," akin to honesty in paying taxes. While many Americans must travel a distance to discover a Sikh or Native American with whom to engage in interfaith dialogue, Muslims are another subject. The bibliography as well as the notes is a good resource for further reading. These resources are especially significant for a book on interfaith dialogue as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. The Three Assumptions Of Confessionalism Many protestants, not brought up in liturgical church settings, find themselves taken aback and confused when first reading the Nicene Creed. This is true especially pertaining to what the creed says about the church. Unfortunately, in many Baptist, Pentecostal, and non–denominational Churches, the Nicene Creed is unfamiliar or unknown to the majority of Church members. A common argument against the use of creeds is "why use a creed when we've got the bible?" While this may seem to be rooted in a very high view of scripture, Carl R. Trueman suggests that it is possibly "an unwitting capitulation to the spirit of the age." In short, Trueman argues that the three assumptions of confessionalism, the past being important and of positive relevance today, language as being a stable transmission of truth throughout time, and the need for a body or institution capable of composing and enforcing creeds, are all countercultural in today's world. Trueman's third assumption can sound like nails on a chalkboard for many Christians. A seemingly ironic distrust of religious organizations exists heavily within Christianity. This skepticism about the church is why "one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church" can be a difficult thing to say, let alone believe. However, it is a misunderstanding of the church that leads to distrusting the creed's validity when it comes to the Bride of Christ. This paper sets out to affirm that there truly is one, holy, catholic an apostolic church. Even in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My Catholic Experience Paper Well I grew up in a Catholic family with a grandmother who was very spiritual, and even had her own room with hundreds of saints, and she would pray to them for different requests. I never really understood church or many of the Bible stories. The church services were so discipline to me, and felt like a punishment because of the standing and kneeling all through out the service. I moved away with my mother and siblings and we ended up staying at this homeless shelter that was ran by a non denominational church, so part of our agreement to stay was to attend this church. Land is the heart of Aboriginal Dreaming and provides the assurance needed for the continuation of rituals and ceremonies (king, 2010, p.213). The effect of Dispossession on Aboriginal spiritualities related to the separation from their land was enormous and overwhelmingly detrimental. It was one of many conventions that was held at the time and are held still to this day. Throughout this time, the North American Christian Convention has grown and developed, but how did it all begin and how has history shaped it into becoming what it is today? Throughout this paper I will be discussing the different events and people, that shaped and molded the North American Christian Convention into what it is today. In 1950 the convention became an annual convention and a policy was put into place to make it truly a national convention by moving it to a different area in the United States each year. Firstly, the church is located in Orange County, specifically Irvine which has a vibrant religious scene. With a wide variety of churches to choose from in the area, Free Chapel has to think of new and innovative ways to entice people to attend their church. This is exemplified in the grandness of the church, and the modernness of the inside. When we asked the pastor to tell us about the church, he said that they wanted the physical appearance of Free Chapel to be excellent to be great, because God is great. My entire life there was a constant pressure on me to accept that there was a supreme being that created all. Even at a young age I couldn't bring myself to fully believe this. I continued grasping for straws because, just like every other religious person, I was scared of the "consequences" that would come with not believing. My Non–Denominational Christian Church promoted telling this to everyone, even children. Along with this idea, we weren't allowed to talk to people outside of our church regularly because they were sinners and we didn't want to contaminate ourselves with the people that were going to hell. Since I have actually been to a Catholic church as a child I thought I knew what to expect but I was shocked at how naive I was to the subject. My preconceived ideas and thoughts were that there would be a lot of getting down on your knees then back up again then saying your Hail Mary's with not much depth to a service. I believe that every religion consists of certain taboos, which is another common feature among religions. Taboos are certain acts that should be avoided. This plays into my religion tremendously. Most taboos of the Christian faith are set in the Ten Commandments. These would include not committing adultery, stealing, using Gods name in vain, etc. Also there are other taboos that society is becoming more and more lenient on as time progresses. One of which would include the use of birth control. Christians do not allow anything that restraints the creation of life. In a study done by the Zogby International telephone poll it found that only "26 percent supported the prohibition against artificial birth control" (O'Reilly). This shows that although taboos are set in every religion, they are adapting with the times as society sees fit. There has been a lot of change in religious adherence since the end of the Second World War. At the end of the war many Australians still had British ancestors and so most people were Christian. With immigrants arriving in Australia after the war we started to see new religions grow. Orthodox Christians came from places like Greece, for example. Another reason for denominational switching is that some parents separate or get divorced. • 51. Bebbington on Evangelicalism In the late 1980's, David Bebbington attempted to define what it meant to be an evangelical in America. He came up with a four part definition. The definition has four criteria and they are: biblicism, conversionism, crucicentrism, and activism. He wished to find a definition that would show what unified different evangelical movements and denominations during his time. Bebbington's definition can also be applied to modern or historic denominations and movements. Bebbington's definition should fit with any church that defines itself as evangelical, but what about a modern non–denominational bible church meets that definition? Also what does Bebbington's definition say about the pre–bible belt Baptist movement in colonial America? If both a modern non–denominational bible church and a pre–bible belt baptist movement meet the definition set forth by Bebbington, then they should have some meaningful connection. However, that connection between a "evangelical" church and a "evangelical" movement is not so clear. Bebbington's four part definition is too wide and accepting to different interpretation to be called meaningful. Each part of his definition needs to be explained and evaluated to see if any meaningful connection between a bible church and the Baptist movement of early souther America have have any meaningful connection under Bebbington's definition of evangelical. (133) Their stories helped me understand how the circumstances challenge church leaders. (Introduction, 19) The authors focus on the continuous practice of "reflective discernment," to help church leaders learn what is the idea required for a church to depend on God. (39) One of the authors named Mark mentions an instance when he as a university chaplain intern, was invited by an African American student and experienced a group prayer. Because Mark was a Scotch–Irish, his initial experience of prayer in this group of students made no sense to him. Later he realized that it was the use of language that had left a different impression on Mark. Also, he felt that his own theology in comparison to one of the students named Keith who invited him was not the same. (40)The author Mark mentions that after his reflective discernment, Keith's theology started making sense to him and differences that seemed differences to him in theology, began changing. This instance, reminds me when I first visited the Evanston Vineyard, a non–denominational church, which is the same church where I am serving as a Pastoral Intern. • 55. Reflection Paper Baptized in the Lutheran Church as a baby, religion was always something I had known. Growing up, my family and I went to church weekly. From the time of being born, to my last year of elementary school, a semi–contemporary, Lutheran Church was my home. My first year of middle school, my family decided to switched to a more traditional church. Filled with the smell of senior citizens and old hymnals, church was no longer enjoyable. My Dad decided to not attend to church anymore (besides occasional holidays), as my siblings and I were older and he felt as if he did not need to pretend to advocate church anymore. On the other hand, my other three family members and I continued. Twelve–year–old Me believed in a God. Though felt like a chore going to church and forcefully reading my Bible. God was a one–day, Sunday morning routine on my behalf. The idea of God was something I had stored into a box and opened as needed. My prayer life consisted of my Confirmation class teacher praying and when I really wanted something. I know now that God does not work that way. My middle school years as a Christian was everything less than desired. Going to a Christian school, I did not mind God but I did not want to put in the effort of having a relationship with Him. Christianity was just a bunch of impossible rules to follow and I was just a rebellious pre–teen. Getting into bad habits of disobeying my parents, cursing, bullying, negativity and living selfish had caught up to me. It took ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 59. The Bible Is The Only Truth I was raised in a Christian home and taught that the Bible is the only truth, "The Word of God." I was encouraged to not put my trust in men, because men will always make mistakes, but trust in God, because he is perfect. I solemnly believed that in order to trust in God, I had to obey the Bible. When I was 18 years old, I became a volunteer translator for a non–denominational American religious organization in Brazil. During that time, I visited hundreds of churches in many Brazilian states. American missionaries founded most of the churches in Brazil. During my first training, I was directed not to translate or mention anything about controversial issues, because it could cause conflict with the denomination's teachings. Over the years I started to question: why are there so many denominations? Why are all these churches following the same Bible but cannot agree with each other? Why are there so many divisions when the Bible teaches unity? Christians follow the Bible. Christianity is the most popular, and the most followed religion in the world as it is practiced by at least 33.39% of the world's population (Central Intelligence Agency). The Bible is a collection of texts considered sacred in Judaism and Christianity (Riches). It has influenced world history, arts, literature, politics, science, education, morality, laws, constitutions, and even the calendar. She is one of a kind person, and she is an evangelical Christian. I do not know much about evangelical Christianity, therefore this is an opportunity to learn about this religion. Meaning of Evangelical: The evangelical comes from the Greek word euangelion meaning "gospel" or "good news." However, evangelical can be a person, church, or organization that is committed to the Christian gospel message that "Jesus Christ is the savior of humanity". Evangelical Christians believe that God creates humankind, and Bible is the guidance. Christians also believe that "It is the final authority in all matters of doctrine and faith–above all human authority (Merritt, DEC 7, 2015). The pastors would walk around and welcome everyone. As I was told everyone was wearing just what was comfortable nothing to fancy, that make me feel better. Except for the fact that my younger cousin asked me if I was going skiing after church because I was like one of the few wearing Jeans and a cardigan. After a few more laughs it was time to make our way in and find our seats. For me at my church I have my side and few aisles that I mainly stick to every Sunday, so when we went two rows from the stage I was a little out of my element. As we walked in the lights were dim and the first thing you see is this huge beautiful painting of Jesus. Then you see the monitors on each side of the stage and then the band starts to welcome us. • 67. Four Reasons To Resist Four Reasons for Resistance The first reason to resist is for emotional reasons. Many people have experienced abuse from churches or Christians that were irritating. Some people come to terms with the fact that embracing the Christianity religion would mean they are to accept and acknowledge that their loved ones died/entered eternity without things like forgiveness or love. They have to acknowledge that there is an eternity where loved ones can enter that is full of darkness, despair, and endless suffering. For some people, the thought of those things can be too much to handle. The second reason to resist is because of prejudice. This simply means the other person has entered the conversation with a closed–mind. They have already prejudged your point of view before hearing what you had to say. The individual is only concerned with defending their argument, and not being open–minded to consider other views. The third reason to resist is due to cultural influences. Koukl (2009) says, "Often Christians defend their own denominational peculiarities in a very biased way" (p.158). They simply do not give any thought to the other side of an argument. Lastly, people resist because they want to rebel against God. As a result, that is something that man cannot fix; therefore, resisting the argument for this reason is valid. The ... When an individual has clearly chosen a side, it does not mean he or she has conducted an even, equal analysis. I was asked by a friend and congregant to provide a ride home to a male congregant. This request stood at odds with my pastoral covenant and thus had to be refused. This mismatch of expectations and presumed lack of awareness on the part of the requesting congregant led to a somewhat awkward situation, which, after being resolved, was followed with a brief word of explanation to my friend. To maintain anonymity, throughout this paper I will use the designators "BC" to refer to my friend and "FL" to refer to the male congregant. I am reminded of a non–denominational mega church in Chicago that is comprised of the upper class of people and all kinds of modern facilities that to me personally gave an impression of snobbery and a non–church experience. It seemed it was a public event that was for the sake of fun. This further implicates the opinion that a church experience does not mean one is having "fun," but worshipping God with one's heart and mind that needs to be fully involved. A worship experience must be a true experience of interacting with God and being in the presence of God, which at the same time, does not mean that churches should discontinue acts of hospitality and pastoral love. Last year, at a denominational church, I came to experience a service that was most unfriendly, unwelcoming, and questioned if that church offered a concert or an experience of worshipping God. Israel Galindo delineates the concept of church programs as reflective of who they are, or what is the "feel" that they receive at a certain church. He also mentions "assessing the pastor's relationship with the church." This has implications for church culture within churches and the relationship between the clergy ... • 71. School Prayer In Schools School Prayer is a very controversial topic in our country today. Many famous figures in this nation support the idea, but there is a number of citizens that do not. Wonder what the verdict is constitutionally? Let's "dig in" and find out. The conflict of school prayer goes all the way back to the nineteenth century. There was a lot of immigrants coming to the United States, and the majority of them were catholic. A big influence on making school prayer in schools were mainly catholic and other denominational and non denominational groups. In the twentieth century, a number of states passed laws that it was mandatory for schools to have prayer and bible readings everyday before class. School Prayer should be permitted in the United States because it is in the constitution, former presidents have promoted it; and teachers would have freedom of religion in the class. The Supreme Court made school prayer unconstitutional, but is still debated today. People who agree with prayer say that if they remove prayer, that it is the public school's mission to "provide children with an education in mores and values, as well as academic preparation." Supporters also say that when students volunteer to pray, they have the right to the law of separation of church and state, and other laws between the lines of freedom of religion. It influenced the morals, rules and regulations of the colonies. Most of the colonies were established based on Christian beliefs and values. There was great religious diversity; Massachusetts was populated with pilgrims and puritans, the Quakers in Pennsylvania and Catholics in Maryland. Each colony believed in their faith and expected everyone to follow their religion. Puritans believed that they had been ordained by God to create a puritan society and did not believe in religious tolerance. The Catholics on the other hand dominated Maryland and the Quakers dominated Pennsylvania. Catholics and Protestants did not approve of each other religion.
