Before the production process commences, we have to take inventory of our available stock to
determine whether the company needs to make procurement of materials or not. This is achieved by
performing a net requirements calculation. The net requirements calculation considers all the critical
elements of the MRP to identify whether there is a shortage of material that would require
procurement. If a procurement proposal is needed, the system is able to determine the amount of
material needed by using the Lot size function. Our lot size in the production of the Aluminum
Door–DR are HB (Replenishment to maximum stock level) and FX (Fixed order quantity) for our
Raw material and semi–finished products respectively, as highlighted in the screen shots below. Also
the MRP requires the specification of a plant and storage location. For this production 1000 and
0001 have been assigned as our plant and storage location requirements respectively.
We used the Multi–level single–item planning approach for our MRP run. With this approach, the
MRP is able to calculate the materials used in our production process for all levels, down to the level
of individual raw materials.

Abstract:
As a result of technological advancements, modern businesses seek new and improved methods of
conducting their business processes. Systems have been designed to augment and manage core
business functions such as production, accounting, procurement, and human resources. However,
even with these systems in place, information is unreliable and inconsistent if they are on disparate

Most of the information that was used to compose this paper was taken from prior ERP articles,
online reference tools, and ERP books.
What is an ERP System?
An ERP system integrates an organization's data and services in a single system. ERP systems
combine computer hardware and software during the process of integration. One thing most ERP
systems have in common is the use of a single database that is used to store information for different
system components. To obtain an ERP status, a given software package must successfully function
as at least two systems. For example, a software package can hypothetically be considered an ERP
system if it can execute human resources and financial functions.
Even though this will accomplish the function of an ERP system, ERP applications typically support
much larger business platforms (Wikipedia, 2007).
ERP, in its entirety, provides a single database that stores all the data for its individual modules.
Some of the modules an ERP system supports include, but is not limited to:

Customer Relationship Management
Data Warehouse
Table 1.1 summarizes the various modules that an ERP application supports and the business

2.1.1 Introduction. In this career episode, I describe an industrial engineering task which I undertook
as part of my educational program in the bachelor degree program in Industrial Engineering
department, Faculty of Engineering, Andalas University, Indonesia, during 1998–2003. In this task, I

Moreover, production planning and control is useful to meet demand in order to obtain the
maximum profit. In this task, I lead my team to conduct forecasting of customers demand for one
year period and to develop an aggregate planning, master production schedule (MPS), rough cut
capacity planning (RCCP), material requirement planning (MRP) and capacity requirement planning
(CRP). These activities are part of the effective and integrated manufacturing planning and control
processes which is known as MRP II (Manufacturing Resource Planning), the predecessor of
