The Dairy Product Lewis Creamery Chocolate Milk
1.0 Introduction
The report is going to analyze the dairy product–Lewis Creamery Chocolate Milk using
manufacturing planning and control (MPC) system. Firstly, it will illustrate some background
information of the shortage of Lewis Creamery Chocolate Milk and presumably the reason of the
shortage was because the company did not implement the MPC system and then carried on by
introducing the manufacturing planning and control (MPC) framework, which may help the
company to overcome the shortage of the products and then the report is going to make some

The Purpose Of Process And Process Planning
.PROCESS PLANNING
1.1 PURPOSE OF PROCESS PLANNING
Process planning is defined as the development of set of instructions describing all the operations
required to convert a design into a product. Process planning deals with the selection of the
processes and the determination of requirements of the processes. The selected operations and
requirements have to be realized in order to transform raw material into a given shape. All the
specifications and requirements of operations are included in the process plan.
The process plan is a document such as drawing. Both the drawing and the process plan present the
basic document for the manufacturing of part/assembly.
Process planning is the planning activity of a planner. In TML following activities

Management
INTRODUCTION
Putting in the simplest terms materials management is about moving the materials within an
organization. What do "materials" mean? Materials can basically be defined as those objects or
things that are to be moved in order to produce goods. Material is one of the 5M's that a manager
has at his command, the other being Men, Machine, Methods and Money. Materials could be in the
form of raw materials, paperwork, messages or information etc. So materials can be both tangible
and intangible. You see the newspaper boy delivering the newspaper to your doorstep everyday or
the milkman delivering the milk packets to you. These are tangible materials. There is also some
material moved when you watch a movie on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

they remain available at the minimum cost and quickest time.
4) Store keeping: This function is responsible for the receipt and issue of the materials. The
materials are stored in such a way that minimum handling is required and wastage is minimal.
5) Material handling: This function aims at minimizing handling and provision of equipments for
handling materials. This function is crucial for minimizing space requirements, effective distribution
and for providing better working space.
6) Warehousing: This function is responsible for the storage facilities for the materials, weighing
facilities, materials handling equipments, material distribution facilities, fire fighting instruments
etc.
7) Standardization and simplification: This function selects items of great demand and sets the
standards for quality, raw material, sizes and performance of any product.
8) Organization & appraisal of materials: This function helps in effective functioning by proving
smooth flow. It provides coordination and avoids delays and wastages
Management of materials embodies various costs. Since the ultimate aim of materials management
is to reduce the costs of materials and hence the final product, it is worth seeing what these costs are.
Let us take a glimpse of what these costs are:

Space Age Furniture Company: A Case Study
Introduction
Space Age Furniture Company has manufactured tables and cabinets in order to hold a microwave
oven and portable televisions. Space Age products are made in several sizes and with several
features yet, they all follow the same production and assembly operations. There is quite a
difference in a few products that Space Age offers. For example, the Saturn microwave stand and
Gemini TV stand has a part (no. 3079) that specifically requires machining on a special lathe used
only for making these parts. A short time ago, Space Age began utilizing the material requirements
planning (MRP) inventory system that helps towards reducing the inventory and additionally
improves towards on–time deliveries. The estimated cost per week is $1.25 to each store related to
Gemini and for Saturn the estimated cost per week is $1.50. Saturn does not participate towards
shipping immediately. Thus, the master schedule for producing Gemini and Saturn for the next six
weeks are Master Schedule Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5 Week 6

utilizes material requirements planning and linear regression models. General Motors has a very
large and complex logistics system that incorporates hundreds of other companies into its processes.
From distributors to suppliers, General Motors must be able to communicate throughout the process
in order to achieve a successful operation. The MRP system that GM uses allows for better
communication, but it wasn't always this way. In fact, when General Motor's executive director of
global logistics, Mr. Edgard Pezzo, took over GM's logistics division, he noted that MRP systems
needed to be improved to eliminate excess inventory and improve the efficiency of item routing
(Ludwig, 2014). Pezzo also worked diligently to improve communication at all levels. He made it
easier for internal stakeholders, such as purchasers, manufacturers, finance, and more, to
communicate with external stakeholders, like suppliers, so that they could collaborate and
participate in planning models to prepare for any scenario that might come along (Ludwig, 2014).

Human Resources Management Foundations
March 10, 2014
Material Requirements Planning (MRP) is a production planning and inventory control system used
to manage the manufacturing process. Most MRP systems are software–based. However, it is
possible to conduct MRP by hand as well. The intent of a MRP system is to simultaneously meet
three objectives; (1) Ensure materials are available for production and products are available for
delivery to customers; (2) Maintain the lowest possible level of inventory; and (3) Plan
manufacturing activities, delivery schedules, and purchasing activities.
As expected, there are certain functions of human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These employees should perform business processes and change management. However, they
should not perform administrative activities. By separating transactional and administrative
functions from strategic improvement responsibilities, an organizational development group can
help accelerate operational changes (Power, 2012).
Although the human resources department does not typically lead the change and process
improvement initiatives, nonetheless, the skills potentially found within employees drawn to the
field present a clear opportunity (Power, 2012). Human resources employees should be considered
fundamental members of the MRP implementation team.
Based on the planned growth of the organization with the implementation of a MRP system, three
factors that might impact the organization's ability to hire new employees that possess the technical
skills needed to perform a job include forecasting, goal setting and strategic planning, and the
program implementation and evaluation (Noe et al., 2014, p. 131).
The first step is forecasting is for human resources to determine the demand for specific job skills
area. After this area has been identified, then a determination for the demand for each area of skill.
This can be done using statistical methods or trend analysis, which measures the labor demand for a
certain period or range of time (Noe et al., 2014, p. 131).
Secondly is the need for setting goals and strategic planning. This is

Material Requirements Planning ( Mrp ) And Lean Manufacturing
Over the years, manufacturing production strategies have continued to evolve. Despite this the
manufacturing strategies debate between material requirements planning (MRP) and lean
manufacturing is still disputed. On one side is the philosophy that MRP software is required to
adequately plan production. On the other side is the lean philosophy, which argues that these
planning tools are too rigid to reflect actual production environments and ultimately impede
effective production. This essay will assess if lean synchronisation is an alternative to material
requirements planning. Material Requirements Planning Principles MRP was developed in the
1970's as an inventory management system. The principle relied on conducting detailed planning to
ensure that parts and materials ware obtained in time to meet the manufacturing process. It was a
major step forward at the time as it capitalized on the use of the computer to generate the supply
orders. (rf) The use of computers allowed operations managers to track supplies orders, obtain
secondary materials and enabled precise stock levels to be measured easily. Now almost all MRP
systems use computes. This led to companies creating production schedules that focused on
obtaining resources to match the output level of production. (rf) Using MRP managers can
determine what materials are required in what quantity and by what deadline. This is known as a
push system of inventory control and involves forecasting inventory needs to meet

Proposal Package for Riordan Manufacturing
The Riordan manufacturing plant at Hangzhou China specializes in creation of fans for Riordan's
many customers. Based on previous years' sales and the potential for improvement to meet
customers' demand, Riordan anticipates higher sales in the next one to two years. Team A has
developed a proposal to improve sales forecasting at the Hangzhou plant to meet this demand. The
proposal includes methods to improve inventory management, employee training and the

This type of system does not allow for a real–time look at inventory levels or products awaiting
shipment. Consequently for example, there are currently problems with customers receiving
delivery on both the Northeastern and Northern parts of the United States during the winter months.
A real time tracking system would help Riordan to quickly troubleshoot problems in its production
and delivery processes to eliminate these problems. The tracking system would also help Riordan to
evaluate its own process for electric fan forecasting (University of Phoenix, 2008).
By implementing a new ERP system such as Lawson, Riordan will be able to improve deliveries for
both receiving raw materials and delivering finished product to their customers. Lawson offers such
improvements such as:
"Advanced order promising at point of sale, lead times, capacity constraints, etc. Powerful planning
tools – forecasting, supply chain planning, material and capacity, and planning and scheduling
Procurement (Purchase Delivery Schedules and Purchase Order Processing) Advanced warehouse
and logistics solutions, including package management and support for both automated and complex

looking for employment.
Capacity Planning Capacity requirements planning (CRP) provide feasibility check of these
schedules. Capacity requirements planning matches planned production with actual capacity to
ensure that schedules can be met; synchronous manufacturing paces the entire production process by
the bottlenecks. Therefore, if additional or less capacity is needed, capacity is added or restricted at
the bottlenecks. In this way the flow is controlled at each bottleneck to bring the about the entire
system the bottlenecks. In this way the flow is controlled at each bottleneck to bring the capacities in
line. There are three initial portions of capacity planning and they are considered to be the
productive, nonproductive and the idle. Productive capacity is where products are being produced
well; Non–productive capacity is where the products are not being produced at that specific time
such as when

Logistics Management : Logistic Management
Logistics Management
"Logistic is the process of planning, implementing and controlling the efficient, effective flow of
goods storage of goods, services and related information from the point of origin to the point of
consumption for the purpose of conforming to customer requirements"
Logistics exists to satisfy customer requirements by facilitating relevant manufacturing and
marketing operation. The main responsibility of logistic is the geographical positioning of raw
materials, work in process and finished inventories at the lowest possible cost.
Creating logistics value is costly. Logistics accounts for one of the highest costs of doing business.
Logistics expenditure normally ranges from 5% to 35% of sales depending on the type of business.
Thus logistics even though very important for any business success is expensive.
VARIOUS DEFINITIONS OF LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT
Logistic management encompasses all materials flows management, from the inflow of purchased
materials into works (i.e. materials planning of raw materials components and other products,
transport of materials from suppliers to works, receiving and inspection and storage of materials)
materials flow through manufacturing processes (i.e. materials issues and materials handling) and
material (flow to customers (physical distribution (Refer fig.1 for these relationships)

Once completed, the corporate assets should be more than adequate to support MRP usage along
with other corporate endeavors in the ERP realm.
Based on input from the software vendor, the MRP will be capable of handling an increase in
activity generated by the corporate goal of increased sales and marketing.
Economic feasibility was assessed as follows:
MRP will reduce operational cost by a minimum of 10% by eliminating surge hiring and purchasing
to meet production needs.
MRP will reduce cycle time by a minimum of 15% by normalizing the production lines and
quantities of products on–hand or in–production.
MRP will reduce on–hand stock of finished products by up to 30% by reducing lead–times
associated with production and procurement of raw materials.
Break even point will be realized within 6 months of implementation.
MRP will result in greater customer satisfaction as lead–times are reduced or eliminated in
purchase–to–delivery times.
The current business process can be summarized both verbally and visually. Currently raw materials
are ordered and stockpiled. Once an order is received, the material on–hand is reviewed to ensure
sufficient quantities are available. If sufficient quantities are not on–hand additional materials are
ordered. Deliverables are manufactured and shipped to the customer. Review of raw materials on–

Logical Relationship Of Budgeting Management
LOGICAL RELATIONSHIP OF BUGDETINGS
Budgeting management plays critical role in organizations, it can help organizations to allocate
resource, force thinking about future and estimate performance base on benchmark. Normally,
management team and financial function provide budget plans at the beginning of a specific period.
It also plays the role of communication and co–ordination around different levels of organization.
Although all of kinds of budget are run respectively, it is important to investigate interrelationship
between them.
The master budget relationship is showed below:
Production budget, which determine number of units the company needs to produce to meet sales
and ending inventory, interlinked sales budget and direct material budget, direct labor budget and
manufacture overhead budget.
We will discuss the logical relationship of budgets.
1. Sales budget
The sales budget reflected sales expectation of a company 's for the budget period. The unit result of
sales budget is the basement of production budget. To calculate sales budget, companies need
variety sources of information. The most important source is historical data and marketing forecast.
The sales budget result comes from budgeted sales in units by selling price per unit. It is clear that
the sales budget of new product will have less accurateness then the grown up product, as there is
not much data can be used. The more historical data to be concerned, the accurateness of result will
be higher.

Commitment to Quality (T.Q.M) (1) Definition and functions It is increasingly the case that a firm
which cannot meet the external customers quality requirements will go out of business, so that the
needs to conformity with quality products so become a prerequisite for staying in business.
International Standardisation Organisation identifies Total Quality Management as That aspect of
the overall management function that determines and implements the quality policy and, as such, is
the responsibility of top management. That is to say the nature of the TQM is an approach for
companies to get long–term success through customer satisfaction. Successful companies
understand the powerful impact customer–defined quality can have on business. They know that
once the customers do not satisfied with quality of the product they will go elsewhere and chose the
product which owns better quality in other companies. As a result, the company will lose their
market share more seriously, the reputation may be ruined by not manufacture to an approved
quality standard. For this reason many competitive firms continually increase their quality standards.
For example, both the Ford Motor Company and the Honda Motor Company have announced that
they are making customer satisfaction their number one priority. The slow economy of 2003

Over the past few years, the construction industry has been changing dramatically. One of the most
important stages in the construction management and business management is the planning phase.
They share similar two main levels of planning which are the strategic and operational planning.
However, business management planning to decide in advance what should be done, and how to do

construction project. However, business management planning can be divided into long–term
planning and short–term which aims to give a clear picture of business for the future.
The stages of the construction project management differ from the stage of business management, in

Global product sourcing can help in lowering the cost of purchasing the required material from other
countries where it is available on low price. Mass customization can also be considered to meet the
demand of periodic orders in compliance with constraints of supply chain. The supply chain process
can concentrate on inventory management process in the system to fulfill the order requested
(Chase, Jacobs and Aquilano, 2006,). Riordan focuses on management of inventory from raw
material to produce fans. It is necessary to track the quality and need of inventory for optimizing the
performance of supply–chain process. These measurements are necessary for assessing the exact
requirement of material based on revised production forecast sales with key inputs from the
conceptual application of supply chain management (Chase, Jacobs and Aquilano, 2006).
Production Forecast The plant's production forecast is based on the theory of moving averages. The
manufacturing unit in China takes care of electric motors and plastic polymers required for
production of fans. The demands for next year's production are calculated on the basis of average
sales for the last three years, which is projected for the coming year (University of Phoenix, 2004).

These gains come at the cost of more tightly coordinated manufacturing processes–both inside a

Manufacturing Cells
Manufacturing Cells production is organized in groupings of all the different types of equipment
used to make a given product. Materials move from one machine to another, and various operations
are performed in sequence, minimizing materials–handling costs. Workers are also hired and trained
to multitasked performing a variety of activities. Defects in the process are aggressively eliminated;
this is due to the tight links in between workstations. Setup time is another aspect of U.S. Strollers
that can be reduced using manufacturing cells concept. The production of a product, its cycle time
until it's completed is reduced significantly. Reducing setup time and costs make production in
smaller batches economical, which in turn reduces inventory levels
Pull System
Pull systems otherwise called demand–pull, "a manufacturing system that manufactures each
component in a production line as soon as, and only when, needed by the next step in the production
line" (Horngren, Datar, and Rajan). With the JIT production, the demand is pull through by the
demand from the other workstation.

Master Data Information Essay
INTRODUCTION
Materials Requirement Planning (MRP) is one of the integral production control techniques used in
Enterprise resource planning(ERP). It calculates the net requirements for materials based on its
dependence on other materials and develop procurement proposals which are often in the form of
purchase requisitions and planned orders. The MRP creates planned orders for all finished and
semi–finished products and aims to make sure that the company has sufficient availability of
material to meet its requirements. In ERP, the Master Data is a key factor in the successful
implementation of the production process. It sorts and stores data automatically, based on their
functions and distinctive characteristics. The Material Master Data ... Show more content on

Before the production process commences, we have to take inventory of our available stock to
determine whether the company needs to make procurement of materials or not. This is achieved by
performing a net requirements calculation. The net requirements calculation considers all the critical
elements of the MRP to identify whether there is a shortage of material that would require
procurement. If a procurement proposal is needed, the system is able to determine the amount of
material needed by using the Lot size function. Our lot size in the production of the Aluminum
Door–DR are HB (Replenishment to maximum stock level) and FX (Fixed order quantity) for our
Raw material and semi–finished products respectively, as highlighted in the screen shots below. Also
the MRP requires the specification of a plant and storage location. For this production 1000 and
0001 have been assigned as our plant and storage location requirements respectively.
We used the Multi–level single–item planning approach for our MRP run. With this approach, the
MRP is able to calculate the materials used in our production process for all levels, down to the level
of individual raw materials.

Riordan is a leading future 1000 manufacturing company that is an industrial leader in the field of
plastic injection molding (Riordan, 2004). Riordan Manufacturing China plant acts as a
decentralized unit of Riordan Manufacturing (Riordan, 2004). I have created a proposal package that
will address the new process design that focuses on all phases of manufacturing the electric fans
from determining the number of parts and components to the materials needed in production. It will
include a new process design for manufacturing Riordan electric fans. The proposal will incorporate
an analysis of the current production process. This analysis of the process design will provide

Riordan should consider outsourcing as a one means of improving the supply chain. Outsourcing is
an approach to push the responsibility and decision making to other companies, which are a part of
several components of the supply chain. Company's find that outsourcing can provide some relief to
a company whom is experiencing a shortage of resources. Outsourcing could allow the company to
focus on the core process of the business while providing the flexibility needed during varying
demands. Supply chains management concentrate on inventory processes to complete the orders that
are requested (Chase, 2005). The movement toward a just–in–time inventory system (JIT) could
provide Riordan with continuous improvement in efficiencies to its fan production process. Riordan
will take the stance of eliminating all cost that does not add value to the product. The China plant
will be able to have their parts arrive at each workstation at the optimal time to complete the process
in a more efficient manner. Riordan will establish areas in their production that are linked, which
will provide a beneficial balance of flow of material throughout the production process.
Production Forecast The production forecast for the China plant accounts for both the electric
motors and plastic polymers, which are essential components of the electric fans. The inventory for
the electric fan is projected by taking the average sales over the last three

In today's operational management arena, there are certain expectations from a managerial aspect
that must be met in order to be successful. A comprehensive look at the Space Age Furniture
Company will show exactly what the Materials Requirement Planning (MRP) calculations are for
this company at present time and then take the information given in order to properly suggest ways
to improve the sub–assemblies. In addition, there will be an analysis on the trade–offs between the
overtime and inventory costs. A calculation will be made on the new MRP that will improve the

With this overtime occuring often, it is impacting the quality of life of this particular employee
which must be examined by upper management and a decision must be made to improve the process
in a more efficient manner in order to reduce the overtime days. The options available for this
company involve looking at different inventory models in order to allow this specialist the ability to
produce outside high demand windows of opportunity. Initially this company began using the MRP
system which enevitably helped to reduce the company's inventory and at the same time improved
their on–time delivery numbers. Currently the process has allowed the Space Age company to
maintain a cost of $1.25 per week to store their Gemnini and $1.50 per week to store each of their
Saturns that sat in inventory. MRP for Space Age Furniture Company Before going into the exact
numbers for this company it is important to make sure and use all tools available. One such tool

early use, EDI allowed companies utilizing material requirements planning (MRP) to inform
suppliers of upcoming orders by providing them with access to the database of planned orders"

Building A Wireless Infrastructure Backbone System
Introduction
Currently much importance is given to optimizing business without affecting the production and
process. When a new distribution centre s build or an existing one is being upgraded with a
warehouse management system, a wireless network structure should be provided which need to be
regarded as the integral part of the process. This is an important part because connection issues may
arise due to lack in connectivity without wireless connection. Eventually this will impact the data
collection capabilities from other floors, mostly form the ground to top floor (Lu, W., Giannikas, V.,
McFarlane, D., & Hyde, J. (2014). A wireless network infrastructure building starts with a design
and then with a map which will describe the mapping of the wireless access points. It also needs to
create a plan for installing the cable which will run throughout the distribution centre. The reason
behind this planning is to build a wireless infrastructure backbone that will be implemented and
which can have the capability to support the whole planning in the distribution centre. To get proper
wireless signals throughout the premises a well planning of the wireless system is essential along
with successful implementation.
Planning and Implementation
Although it sound very easy to implement the whole process but the reality is that it involves lot of
elements and components which need to be taken care of while project implementation. Plenty of

Contrast the Significance of the Term Lead Time in the...
Question 1 – Contrast the significance of the term lead time in the traditional EOQ context and in an
MRP system.
In the traditional context, lead time is fixed–either as a discrete time or as a probability distribution.
Such lead time constancy or variation is outside of the inventory model. Lead time in an MRP
system is assumed to be a variable. While specific lead times are stated for planning purposes, these
times may be speeded up or delayed as conditions warrant. Indeed, it is this ability to detect needed
changes in lead times, either by expediting or de–expediting, that many users cite as one of the most
valuable features of MRP.
MRP has had some degree of success in environments where requirements are relatively certain and

Raw materials must be kept as inventory stock. As they are used, stock must be replenished through
reordering MRP fulfils 3 main functions: 1. MRP makes sure that dependent demand items are kept
in stock. 2. MRP maintains the optimal level of inventory that is most cost effective for a company.
3. MRP us used to purchase new stock, deliver finished products, and plan the daily manufacturing
processes.
MRP is effective due to it working backwards from a plan for producing finished products in order
to develop the amount of raw materials that a company needs. How this works is MRP breaks down
inventory requirements into separate stages. This helps to manage production and keep it flowing at
an even level. It also helps to keep inventory costs to a minimum.
The drawback is that MRP systems can be expensive to implement and the costs can be quite high,
offsetting the amount of money that a company could save in inventory costs. Larger companies that
produce large volumes of finished products may find it beneficial but the same may not be true for
smaller companies. Plus, for MRP to produce accurate results, you need to have accurate data.
Information such as orders, bills, item numbers and records must be accurate or the results will be
off.
To get results, you have to input information into the MRP system. There are 3 main sources of
information for input: 1. Bill of sale for materials 2. A

cycles and high demand volatility require a tighter S&OP planning than steadily consumed products.
Done well, the S&OP process also enables effective supply chain management. However, what we
have observed in Gabriel is that excessive dependence on platforms like SAP ERP 6.0 have made
the process totally system driven in nature. They have their own advantages and disadvantages. On
one hand, all the plans get generated automatically by the system and users are required only to
input data at various levels. On the other hand, at times system itself becomes a hurdle because
employees are losing their efficiency in planning and data management. In such situation system
down time at these companies' leads to huge loses and disrupts entire work flow. These companies
have limited practise of maintaining hard copies of data thereby making the whole process totally

clearly shows that the adoption of an MRP system at Taneja's Saras aircraft has two implications on
the supply chain: It imposes more stress in the supply chain. Subcontractors have to both reduce

Step 3) DLP + Distributor Margin= Retailer Landing Price

A supply chain for the electric fans The Supply Chain Management process is at the very center of
all the core operational processes of a company. It plays the role of a central nervous system
regulating the product flow by managing the associated information flow that runs through a
company. It has very strong linkages with major core processes like product development
management, purchasing management and customer relationship management. For instance, the
linkage between the Riordian Electric fan development management process and the Supply Chain
Management process is bi–directional: on one side, the product development process feeds the
Supply Chain Management process with the electric fans introduction plans and engineering change
notices on bill of materials and routings, while in return the Supply Chain Management process
provides the product development process with the supply chain constraints that need to be
considered when scheduling the development of fans, in order to make sure that these products will
hit the market at the right time. It will provide the Riordan Manufacturing an edge in the market

Abstract:
As a result of technological advancements, modern businesses seek new and improved methods of
conducting their business processes. Systems have been designed to augment and manage core
business functions such as production, accounting, procurement, and human resources. However,
even with these systems in place, information is unreliable and inconsistent if they are on disparate
platforms. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software tackles this problem by integrating
business processes into a centralized system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the information that was used to compose this paper was taken from prior ERP articles,
online reference tools, and ERP books.
What is an ERP System?
An ERP system integrates an organization's data and services in a single system. ERP systems
combine computer hardware and software during the process of integration. One thing most ERP
systems have in common is the use of a single database that is used to store information for different
system components. To obtain an ERP status, a given software package must successfully function
as at least two systems. For example, a software package can hypothetically be considered an ERP
system if it can execute human resources and financial functions.
Even though this will accomplish the function of an ERP system, ERP applications typically support
much larger business platforms (Wikipedia, 2007).
ERP, in its entirety, provides a single database that stores all the data for its individual modules.
Some of the modules an ERP system supports include, but is not limited to:
Manufacturing
Supply Chain Management
Financials
Projects
Human Resources
Customer Relationship Management
Data Warehouse
Table 1.1 summarizes the various modules that an ERP application supports and the business
functions that are carried out within each module.

2 The outputs can be products, services, information and experiences. The transformation of inputs
into outputs can be physical conversion or alteration, transportation, storage or inspection when
dealing with goods. 3 For services, the change would be more at a personal or even psychological
level. From a value perspective, value is created when the value of the outputs is greater than the
sum total of the value of inputs. Asforthe word 'management', there has been long debate about its
meaning. For our purpose, we take the perspective of the functions that managers perform. The five
traditional functions that managers perform are planning, organising, coordinating and controlling of
resources. Combining these separate definitions into one, operations management can therefore be
defined as the planning, organising, coordinating and controlling of transformation of inputs to
outputs. These aspects can be represented in the form of a simple model as shown in Figure 1.1. b)

Moreover, production planning and control is useful to meet demand in order to obtain the
maximum profit. In this task, I lead my team to conduct forecasting of customers demand for one
year period and to develop an aggregate planning, master production schedule (MPS), rough cut
capacity planning (RCCP), material requirement planning (MRP) and capacity requirement planning
(CRP). These activities are part of the effective and integrated manufacturing planning and control
processes which is known as MRP II (Manufacturing Resource Planning), the predecessor of
enterprise resource planning (ERP). The relationship of these processes can be seen in Figure 1. Our
project was related to processes of top management planning and operation management execution
in this figure.

General Motors is a large automotive manufacturing company that utilizes material requirements planning and linear regression models. General Motors has a very large and complex logistics system that incorporates hundreds of other companies into its processes. From distributors to suppliers, General Motors must be able to communicate throughout the process in order to achieve a successful operation. The MRP system that GM uses allows for better communication, but it wasn't always this way. In fact, when General Motor's executive director of global logistics, Mr. Edgard Pezzo, took over GM's logistics division, he noted that MRP systems needed to be improved to eliminate excess inventory and improve the efficiency of item routing (Ludwig, 2014). Pezzo also worked diligently to improve communication at all levels. He made it easier for internal stakeholders, such as purchasers, manufacturers, finance, and more, to communicate with external stakeholders, like suppliers, so that they could collaborate and participate in planning models to prepare for any scenario that might come along (Ludwig, 2014). Human resources employees should be considered fundamental members of the MRP implementation team. Based on the planned growth of the organization with the implementation of a MRP system, three factors that might impact the organization's ability to hire new employees that possess the technical skills needed to perform a job include forecasting, goal setting and strategic planning, and the program implementation and evaluation (Noe et al., 2014, p. 131). • 21. Material Requirements Planning ( Mrp ) And Lean Manufacturing Over the years, manufacturing production strategies have continued to evolve. Despite this the manufacturing strategies debate between material requirements planning (MRP) and lean manufacturing is still disputed. On one side is the philosophy that MRP software is required to adequately plan production. On the other side is the lean philosophy, which argues that these planning tools are too rigid to reflect actual production environments and ultimately impede effective production. This essay will assess if lean synchronisation is an alternative to material requirements planning. Material Requirements Planning Principles MRP was developed in the 1970's as an inventory management system. The principle relied on conducting detailed planning to ensure that parts and materials ware obtained in time to meet the manufacturing process. It was a major step forward at the time as it capitalized on the use of the computer to generate the supply orders. (rf) The use of computers allowed operations managers to track supplies orders, obtain secondary materials and enabled precise stock levels to be measured easily. Now almost all MRP systems use computes. This led to companies creating production schedules that focused on obtaining resources to match the output level of production. (rf) Using MRP managers can determine what materials are required in what quantity and by what deadline. Logical Relationship Of Budgeting Management LOGICAL RELATIONSHIP OF BUGDETINGS Budgeting management plays critical role in organizations, it can help organizations to allocate resource, force thinking about future and estimate performance base on benchmark. Normally, management team and financial function provide budget plans at the beginning of a specific period. It also plays the role of communication and co–ordination around different levels of organization. Although all of kinds of budget are run respectively, it is important to investigate interrelationship between them. The master budget relationship is showed below: Production budget, which determine number of units the company needs to produce to meet sales and ending inventory, interlinked sales budget and direct material budget, direct labor budget and manufacture overhead budget. We will discuss the logical relationship of budgets. 1. Sales budget The sales budget reflected sales expectation of a company 's for the budget period. The unit result of sales budget is the basement of production budget. To calculate sales budget, companies need variety sources of information. The most important source is historical data and marketing forecast. The sales budget result comes from budgeted sales in units by selling price per unit. It is clear that the sales budget of new product will have less accurateness then the grown up product, as there is not much data can be used. If a procurement proposal is needed, the system is able to determine the amount of material needed by using the Lot size function. Our lot size in the production of the Aluminum Door–DR are HB (Replenishment to maximum stock level) and FX (Fixed order quantity) for our Raw material and semi–finished products respectively, as highlighted in the screen shots below. Also the MRP requires the specification of a plant and storage location. For this production 1000 and 0001 have been assigned as our plant and storage location requirements respectively. We used the Multi–level single–item planning approach for our MRP run. With this approach, the MRP is able to calculate the materials used in our production process for all levels, down to the level of individual raw materials. MASTER DATA FOR ALUMINUM DOOR–DR PLANNING Below are the screen shots taken for the production process carried out. Raw Material Master Data Figure 1, shows the screen shot of our raw material which is aluminum alloy. This material is purchased from the vendor and will only be used in producing the ... Outsourcing could allow the company to focus on the core process of the business while providing the flexibility needed during varying demands. Supply chains management concentrate on inventory processes to complete the orders that are requested (Chase, 2005). The movement toward a just–in–time inventory system (JIT) could provide Riordan with continuous improvement in efficiencies to its fan production process. Riordan will take the stance of eliminating all cost that does not add value to the product. The China plant will be able to have their parts arrive at each workstation at the optimal time to complete the process in a more efficient manner. Riordan will establish areas in their production that are linked, which will provide a beneficial balance of flow of material throughout the production process. When a new distribution centre s build or an existing one is being upgraded with a warehouse management system, a wireless network structure should be provided which need to be regarded as the integral part of the process. This is an important part because connection issues may arise due to lack in connectivity without wireless connection. Eventually this will impact the data collection capabilities from other floors, mostly form the ground to top floor (Lu, W., Giannikas, V., McFarlane, D., & Hyde, J. (2014). A wireless network infrastructure building starts with a design and then with a map which will describe the mapping of the wireless access points. It also needs to create a plan for installing the cable which will run throughout the distribution centre. The reason behind this planning is to build a wireless infrastructure backbone that will be implemented and which can have the capability to support the whole planning in the distribution centre. To get proper wireless signals throughout the premises a well planning of the wireless system is essential along with successful implementation. Planning and Implementation Although it sound very easy to implement the whole process but the reality is that it involves lot of elements and components which need to be taken care of while project implementation. In the traditional context, lead time is fixed–either as a discrete time or as a probability distribution. Such lead time constancy or variation is outside of the inventory model. Lead time in an MRP system is assumed to be a variable. While specific lead times are stated for planning purposes, these times may be speeded up or delayed as conditions warrant. Indeed, it is this ability to detect needed changes in lead times, either by expediting or de–expediting, that many users cite as one of the most valuable features of MRP. MRP has had some degree of success in environments where requirements are relatively certain and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Raw materials must be kept as inventory stock. As they are used, stock must be replenished through reordering MRP fulfils 3 main functions: 1. MRP makes sure that dependent demand items are kept in stock. 2. MRP maintains the optimal level of inventory that is most cost effective for a company. 3. MRP us used to purchase new stock, deliver finished products, and plan the daily manufacturing processes. MRP is effective due to it working backwards from a plan for producing finished products in order to develop the amount of raw materials that a company needs. How this works is MRP breaks down inventory requirements into separate stages. This helps to manage production and keep it flowing at an even level. It also helps to keep inventory costs to a minimum. The drawback is that MRP systems can be expensive to implement and the costs can be quite high, offsetting the amount of money that a company could save in inventory costs. Larger companies that produce large volumes of finished products may find it beneficial but the same may not be true for smaller companies. Plus, for MRP to produce accurate results, you need to have accurate data. Information such as orders, bills, item numbers and records must be accurate or the results will be off. To get results, you have to input information into the MRP system. There are 3 main sources of information for input: 1. Bill of sale for materials 2. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Shi June 16, 2008 Abstract: As a result of technological advancements, modern businesses seek new and improved methods of conducting their business processes. Systems have been designed to augment and manage core business functions such as production, accounting, procurement, and human resources. However, even with these systems in place, information is unreliable and inconsistent if they are on disparate platforms. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software tackles this problem by integrating business processes into a centralized system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of the information that was used to compose this paper was taken from prior ERP articles, online reference tools, and ERP books. What is an ERP System? An ERP system integrates an organization's data and services in a single system. ERP systems combine computer hardware and software during the process of integration. One thing most ERP systems have in common is the use of a single database that is used to store information for different system components. To obtain an ERP status, a given software package must successfully function as at least two systems. For example, a software package can hypothetically be considered an ERP system if it can execute human resources and financial functions. Even though this will accomplish the function of an ERP system, ERP applications typically support much larger business platforms (Wikipedia, 2007). ERP, in its entirety, provides a single database that stores all the data for its individual modules. Some of the modules an ERP system supports include, but is not limited to: Manufacturing Supply Chain Management Financials
