He studied at the University of Hull and here he started his
creating his shorts films including ‘Calling Card’.
‘Calling Card’ was directed by Jamie and turned out to be an
award winning short film. This was the beginning of his success
and also allowed him to branch out on music videos. This short
film had only a £5000 budget showing that he can produce
quality with little resources .
3. Music Videos
After he came back from university he got noticed for his talents and was asked by big
artists to direct their videos, such as…
● Radiohead, ‘Just’ - This was filmed within 3 days with a big budget of £100,000.
This video has 3,500,000 views on youtube
● Coldplay, ‘The Scientist’ - This was also filmed within 3 days and had a greater
budget of £200,000. This video got extremely popular on youtube with
377,000,000 views.
● He has worked with many big artists including Sam SMith, Jack Bugg and Tom
Odell
4. Coldplay ‘The Scientist’
The video that was directed by Jamie Thraves sees the
whole music video in reverse showing where the lead
singer had come from. It goes along with the lyrics of
the song saying ‘back to the start’. This is due to him
driving with his partner in the car then showing them
crashing at the end of a cliff. The video contains a new
techniques that videos had never really seen before
showing the whole music video in reverse but the lyrics
playing at the right time. The video had a great response
seeing them get 410,000,000 million views and 1.5
millions likes on the site of youtube.
5. Films
He went back to do certain short films
including The Low Down, The Cry Of The Owl
and Treacle Jr. He is still in this industry trying
to further his learning whilst producing these
films. He is in between making music videos
and short movies allowing him to adapt his
news skills and techniques within both
categories. He is able to change in between
creating music videos and short films seeing
him create a new film about every 5 years.
Seeing him start making films in 2000 and
finishing 4 by 2016.
